“ Who do you relate to?” They had asked. I looked over to them to see them looking back at me curiously. “maybe Icarus? You always did like art depictions of him; making aesthetic little things about him. Though, you aren’t really one to strive for the top. You’re always so… accepting of where you are.” they explained their thoughts, looking off to the side as they did. they had never liked looking at people’s faces as they talked. It was ‘too bring’ they said. I let out a chuckle at their analysis, “ You have no idea how right you were to name him.” They tilted their head at me to explain. “I really do see myself in him. Striving too hard to do something just to get hurt by it.” I explained the simple part.

“Is that all there is to it?” they asked.

“No, not quite.” i shook my head

taking in a deep breath I sighed, “ I do too much, y’know? I try too hard to do things for the right reason. I listen too much, I ask questions I don’t need to, I act too accommodating, and I pay attention too often to others. I strive too hard to be a good person. I do all that I can to be the person that I needed, that I want to have in my life, but it hurts. It hurts to be a good person. I get given these wings to fly and I do,but each time I soar I always have someone in my arms, raising them towards the sun they wished to reach. No one asks me to do this, and no one has taken advantage of it, I just don’t know how to give less of myself. And of course, the wings melt and I fall, burnt out and too tired to catch myself I hit the ground. But the others, they land amongst the stars. They continue to stay in the sky - not even noticing my crumpled form on the ground. No one ever picks me up like I pick up others.” I looked to the ground, a bittersweet smile on my lips. “I can’t even save myself without saving other people.”

i looked back up at them, worrying for a moment that I was being too much again. “even in my darkest moments, I continued on for the sake of other people. I stayed here for the ones I care about, I improved myself for their sake, I became someone i needed for them.” tears began to fall from my eyes. “I can’t even save myself without sacrificing something for someone else’s sake. I don’t know how else to do it - how do I help without sacrifice? because the wax is burning my back and I don’t know how many more times I can fall before i’m too broken to get up and repair my was wings alone for the next time I take someone higher. And don’t get me wrong, im not trying to be selfish. I understand everyone has their own problems and it’s not their responsibility to carry mine. But why am I alone? Why am i the only one i’n my life who helps others? Cant someone else do the same thing I do and at least be there for me while I repair myself? Maybe occasionally hand me a tool or remind me to take a break. Just .. do something.” I lowered my head onto the table. “I’m sorry..” they said, voice tense with sadness. I look up at the them, a tear stained face looking back at me.

“I wish I could help you.” They looked so sad.

“I know you do.” I looked the same way.

“ You cant help yourself but to want to.” I smile softly at them before laying the mirror down.
