pairing : vernon chwe x gen!reader
summary : you’ve forgotten your glasses.
genre : drabble, fluff, established relationship
warning(s) : one swear word, 0.2k words
Tumblr media
“you’re staring.”
you snap out of your gaze, blinking your eyes rapidly and watching your blurry surroundings slowly come into focus. your eyes find their way to vernon, who’s looking at you with a confused expression yet a tiny smile on his face.
“sorry, uh,” you chuckle, trying to brush it off as a nothing big. “there’s not much I can see since I left my glasses at home. you’re one of the only things I can see clearly.”
vernon’s smile grows, his eyes widening as he nods his head slowly. he tries not to laugh, alas realising your situation and why you haven’t been scribbling down notes as you do every lesson.
you notice his reaction and hit him lightly on the arm. “it’s not funny. I can’t see shit and my eyes hurt,” you complain, gaze falling back onto the teeny-tiny words on the screen all the way at the front of the lecture hall.
“take a nap, then.” you look at vernon like he’s committed a crime right before you. “I mean, you can’t see much of the screen so there’s no point paying attention anymore. besides, I’ll let you copy my notes after school.”
your head collapses onto the table in relief. “you’re a life saver, babe,” your muffled voice tells him. he only reaches a hand out to pat your head twice before going back to his notes.

“Eyy, finally I decided to finish my little apology to our boys. Continuation of the “Friend”. This time it’s Diluc and Kaeya! (N-No I’m not lazy to make separate post for them... that’s not it...). Also my wrist is kinda weird lately so to give it a small practice but not overshoot it I wrote these~”
Tumblr media
Words: 453 Genre: fluff, gn!reader
Diluc is a loner. He might tolerate or handle people around him. After all, it would be weird if he couldn't. Considering he is working at his tavern and there are many different patrons every day. And also probably meets with various people simply due to being the Winery owner.
But whenever he is done with his socialization he will hide from the public. Let out a tired sigh and be himself for a while. Just being Diluc, a young gentleman with a soft spot for his companion. He adores and cherishes those moments. Silently spending a few minutes just with the hawk which sometimes seeks him in the middle of the day.
At first you didn't understand why Diluc wears a thick coat and gloves. After seeing the bird land on his arm. All you could do is say 'ah' in realization.
Once Diluc is done with bonding with his hawk he will let it fly away. Observe how it flies high to the sky. Then going to you and spend time together. You got used to it by now and you don't really mind. In fact you are happy for Diluc. As when you can't be there for him, to let his mind rest from his daily life. The bird will do.
Diluc admits it's not the same as embracing you and nuzzling into your neck. But it's sufficient enough until you are done with your things and return back to the Winery.
Sometimes when the hawk seeks Diluc in the middle of the day and you are present. Not only you are able to witness the love between the owner and his pet. But you are encouraged to pet the hawk. At first you were scared it will actually hurt you. But Diluc assured you nothing bad will happen.
The hawk was avoiding you at first, balancing at Diluc's arm. It was shy to somebody else's touch. Just like its owner, huh?
At some point it lets you touch it's head. Gently pat it, to your surprise it nuzzled into your hand to give it more pats. You giggled and looked at Diluc who smiled. Why the whole time you were thinking the hawk is literally a smaller version of Diluc. Hesitant at first, shy and avoiding and then melting into your touch.
Maybe if you give it enough time it will sometimes seek you too. Better start carrying thick clothes. You wouldn't want to get hurt by its talons which is kind of unavoidable. Just think of it, talking to somebody and suddenly hearing the hawk. Extending your hand and it will land, require a bit of attention and then fly away. Surely your conversing buddy will be shocked!
Tumblr media
>>Sauce<<
Once again I got inspired a bit. But I guess with Diluc it’s obvious what kind of pet he would have. Either his hawk or another turtle like when he was a kid (does this make Kaeya also had the turtle as his pet? or was the turtle before Kaeya was adopted? hmm) 👀 ngl I also had turtles when I was kid. They are so cute 💗
Tumblr media
Words: 483 Genre: fluff, gn!reader
Unlike the other two (Diluc and Xiao) he doesn't really “own” a pet. Nor something seeks his presence. He says he is too busy with his work for the Knights and adoring you. But as you know him, he is probably hiding something.
However when you find out about his occasional feeding sessions of wild foxes at borders with Dragonspine. He has hardly any words for explanation. He is embarrassed as he promised to himself to not really lie to his partner. Unless it's some harmless prank or secret party. He loves you too much for it.
Sure, he keeps many things for himself. To keep you safe. But he also shares a lot of minor secrets with you. Like how else would you know about secret meeting spots for Treasure Hoarders. Being able to break their illegal plans or know some gossip about certain local merchant who is avoiding taxes. All thanks to your Kaeya.
But now you have caught him in the middle of feeding. The foxes ran away even before you appeared from behind the bushes. He knew about your presence but he had no words to explain. This was the reason why he sometimes came home late. Always giving you an apologetic look. You thought he might be cheating on you. Well cheating with bunch of wild foxes.
You are not sure if it was a mistake or not following him here. As you were extremely curious why would he want to meet up with somebody outside of the city. Well in the end you find out your man is just a big liar and softie. You're gonna act as if you are upset, pressuring him to the corner and feel sorry. He could have told you he was feeding secretly wild animals and you would be fine. Instead of making you worried over nothing.
At that moment Kaeya realizes his innocent lie actually wasn't so innocent. Next time he will have to think twice before saying or doing anything. But truth to be told he felt a little embarrassed for admitting his fox feeding. He knows he can't have one as a pet, otherwise he would take one home. Spoil it with love just like he does with you.
You can be sure he will try his best to make up for his mistake. Buying you your favorite snack or something else you'd like. Maybe later on if you insist he will share his secret how he became friends with the foxes. Feeding them together, observe from a healthy distance how the berries and meat are slowly disappearing into their tiny tummies.
Admit it. You like foxes especially now when you can feed them with your beloved. But he better doesn't cause some misunderstanding like this ever again. Would be silly to get into a fight just because he can't admit his soft spot for wild animals.
Tumblr media

I swear finding a pic of Kaeya with some animal was an art itself. From the beginning I was thinking of either a wild wolf (sounds more like Razor being adopted by him but whatever) or a wild fox. I’m so happy somebody actually drew it! I love it~ but I also found so many pics which I’m not sure if search was trolling me. “Kaeya with pet” google search: did you mean Kaeya with cat ears? or Diluc? or both of them?! Now I’m craving for some cat boy Kae or Lulu but idk what to do with it, so yeah.
Again, if anyone happens to know (or you are) the artist, tell them “I love you and your work”. If you are not ok with me having your art here, hit me up I will remove them 😔

I’ll Stay Right Here
Summary: Living in mondstadt meant being used to living near the water. You however, never seem to get used to finding shells along the shore. You’ll do anything to get your hands on them, even take a hit from a shield-wielding mitachurl.
Requested by: Anon
Request: I'm starving for Kaeya content😤 so him with a s/o who fucking adores collecting shells and pretty flowers even if they're in the middle of a battle or if there are enemies camping nearby. The amount of times I've died trying to get a starconch is unreal. But it's always worth it bc pretty shells. They also like to give them to Kaeya too as a gift or sometimes an apology. I just l o v e collecting pretty shit man😭
Warnings:A bit angsty. Reader gets injured.
A/N: Anon, you are a whole mood. Now that I’m at a high enough level, sometimes I’ll just let the enemies hit me once or twice while I pick things up. Also, pausing mid climb to grab a geo sigil? More likely than you’d think. Also, I am sorry if this is super ooc, this is my second fic for Genshin Impact, and my first Kaeya fic, so I might need a bit more practice before I nail down his character completely.
~~~
Kaeya loves you, he really does, but sometimes you can be so frustrating. As captain of the cavalry, he has to deal with more than one oblivious airhead on the daily, and while he wouldn’t give you the title, he wouldn’t completely abstain from suggesting you can have airheaded moments.
Such as now.
It was supposed to be a simple clearing assignment. Jean had gotten reports of some particularly nasty hilichurl camps near the shore. Particularly over by Dawn Winery. If Kaeya had the chance to bother Diluc while also getting work done, he wasn’t going to pass up that chance. So when he heard Jean give you the assignment, he volunteered to accompany you. Doing work, annoying Diluc, and spending time with his significant other? Three birds, one stone.
Now, he was regretting coming along. You had gotten distracted pretty early on in the search for the camp, eyes landing on the sparkly item buried partially by sand. Kaeya knew you had a whole mantle full of them at home, but he never realized that you still were adding to said collection.
You turned to him, eyes shining in excitement as you bounced up and down on the balls of your feet, hydro vision bouncing and twinkling from where it hung on the lapel of your coat.
“Kaeya, do you know what this is?” You asked, holding up what was obviously a starconch.
Kaeya quirked a brow, a slight smirk on his face, “A shell?” He asked, already knowing that wasn’t the answer you were looking for.
His guess was only confirmed by the roll of your eyes and the drop of your shoulders, “It’s not just any shell, Kae,” You stressed. “This is a Starconch. They’re usually only found in Liyue. I’ve never gotten to see one in person before, and I never thought I would!”
Kaeya chuckled slightly, eyes filled with fondness at your child-like excitements. “Well, in that case, I’ll be on the lookout for more in the future.”
He was almost sure he actually physically blushed at the adoration in your gaze when you looked back at him. Your smile was big enough that he thought your face might stick that way, and oh what a sight that would be to see everyday. He wasn’t sure he would actually be able to handle it.
His excitement dropped when a figure, quickly approaching, loomed behind you. Just as he registered the wood of the mitachurl’s shield, you bent down to look through the sand more.
“(Y/N)-” He began to shout, his one uncovered eye wide.
You must’ve felt the vibrations in the ground, because your head rose just as your companion took quick steps towards you. He was too late.
The shield slammed into you, sending you flying through the air and back into the sand. The sickening sound of the wood hitting your body filled his ears. You lay unmoving in the sand. Kaeya’s gaze was fixed on your immobile form until the sound of the mitachurl’s footsteps pulled him back to reality.
His icy gaze landed on the large, hulking monstrosity, crystals of ice beginning to form and float around him as the temperature in the area dropped significantly. The mitachurl didn’t last very long there after.
~~~
When you woke, you were tucked tightly into an unfamiliar bed. The sheets were soft, but the entire room was much too dark compared to your own. The blue blankets that draped over you were placed in such a way as to suggest that you had been covered and not just pulled them over yourself.
The door on the far side of the room opened, and the short, bright form of Barbara walked through. Her white dress was a stark contrast against the rest of the room. The heels of her boots clicked ont he wood floor. When she spotted you sitting up and awake, she gasped, a smile stretching across her face.
“Oh thank goodness!” She squeaked. “I was worried for a moment there. I mean… we all were.”
You were confused by what she meant until you followed her gaze down to your body. From almost head to toe, you were wrapped tightly in white bandages.
“I should get Kaeya,” She mumbled, placing the tray of bandages she had in her hands onto the coffee table across the room. “He’s been with you almost day and night. Diluc had to come and drag him out so he would eat.”
“Diluc?” You’re brows raised. Barbara nodded.
“Not even Jean could convince him to move from that chair. Diluc didn’t even have to say anything to him though. It was scary,” Barbara seemed lost in thought. She promised to be back quickly before leaving the room again.
Your eyes wandered, recognizing where you were finally. This must have been Kaeya’s room. A shine caught your eye, and your head turned to the nightstand, spotting the starconch you had picked up before your injuries.
A bandaged hand came up, lifting the cool shell from the table and bringing it to your lap. Your eyes looked over it, studying each detail. It didn’t seem all that worth it now.
The door burst open and in strolled an unusually disheveled Kaeya. It was unusual to see him without his eyepatch, and even less so without his usual cape and fur. The only thing he was wearing was his pants, boots, and the white undershirt.. His hair clean, but it looked like that had been a recent development, as the ends were still damp.
He sighed out at the sight of you, speeding up to sit in the chair that had been pulled up next to your beside. His hands reached out, hesitating only slightly before he ran a hand down your cheek. There was a deep frown on his face, and for once, he didn’t have a witty one liner to fire at you.
“How are you feeling?” He finally asked, breaking the silence.
You frowned at his creased brown, hand coming up to smooth the anxiety that knit his brow. He sighed, eyes closing. His hand came up to gently pull yours away.
“I’m perfectly fine,” You whispered out. “I’m sorry.”
You looked down to the shell in your hand, moving to place it gently into Kaeya’s upturned palms. He stared down at it, unmoving. In the blink of an eye, he was almost doubled over in light laugher. It twinkled, like a bell, soft against the pounding of your head.
“Next time you want a shell, darling,” He still cradled the starconch like it was a precious treasure. “Just ask me to retrieve them for you. Maybe then we can avoid more accidents like this.”
You smiled sheepishly, but nodded. Kaeya smirked at you, leaning up to place a gently kiss upon your forehead, and then your nose, and then down to your lips.
“Rest,” He mumbled. “I will stay right here.”

mina minds her business, probably a little too much. but she pays attention, and she’s always strangely in tune to the people around her, whether they know or not. hanbyul has often told her it’s a weird feeling, of knowing she’s thinking of them and feeling it without her saying much. he’s also said its comforting so - she doesn’t question further.
still, she says very little and stays out of their affairs. the same can be said for her brother. she’s watched though, watched his pattern from coming in twice a day, go to one a day, maybe once every few days to once a week and then back to square one like nothing happened. she watched his hair grow and grow, and his dye job slip away she watched the strands hide his face, and she watched looks in his eyes start to develop as he hid his face from her.
minjae, who took every chance he could to watch her, to be around her.
“do you want me to dye it again?” mina’s admittedly not too good at this, she hadn’t been good when he’d first showed up and she’s not good now. it’s strange, even stranger when the moment she lifts her hand to run it through his hair, he flinches. he’s clearly out of it and she’s surprised, concerned in a way she’s not used to. “jae? everything okay?”
‘yeah - yeah sorry, i’ve been tired a lot.’ “something on your mind?”
she’s struck with how much she doesn’t really know about her little brother, except that maybe he’s not little in the sense that she thinks. little in the way that she can keep ruffling his hair and indulging the past that she’s stuck in.
'are you happy - here?’ and he’s doing things like this and catapulting her to the present.  “i----i’m content.” it almost feels awkward to say. she’s not unhappy that’s true. ‘i mean - do you like this life?’ they haven’t spoken about it, not since he first arrived. so for him to drop it out the blue is, concerning. one thing she knows about her brother is he’s not one for serious things, hasn’t been since he’s popped back here, maybe she hasn’t paid enough attention to see why.
“i don’t mind it.” she hears the sigh, watches how his eyes drift anywhere but to her. “jae...you can talk to me you know.” it almost hurts to have to say that, to think it wasn’t that obvious when they’ve supposedly been reconnecting this entire time. what’s she been doing then? and worse - what’s been going on with him.
‘yunho.’ it’s a whisper but the word is enough to make her blood run cold. it makes her fingers stop where they’re playing in his hair. she remembers the name, though it’s been a while since she’s had to think about it. yunho is often a constant, as much as she doesn’t like to admit it. he’s something of a thought that sits in the back of her mind, waiting to rear its ugly head but something she tries not to give too much attention to. it’s also not something she’s ever brought up with minjae and had no intentions of bringing up with him. for him to mention it...
“what about him.” she swallows down the dryness in her throat, keeps down the itch of goosebumps the name brings to her body.  ‘he’s been here.’ “.....he’s been where.....” mina’s hand goes straight to the shotgun seated under the hood of the counter. it hovers there and the other hand stays close to minjae, somehow she doesn’t want to move it anywhere else. she squeezes his shoulder and he doesn’t look her in the eye. mina’s stomach is turning in that awful way that makes her fight or flight kick in. “minjae...explain.” ‘he’s been here and you haven’t noticed because he’s changed his face and i’ve been trying to find a way to keep him away from you but then he caught me.’
it’s a lot to process, and really she’s proud of herself for keeping seated, for not immediately drawing the pistol out. there’s so much to address. the changing his face, who he could possibly be and how close he’s gotten to her. how much time she has. how much time they have. kae, she’ll need to contact him. there’s so much to think about and yet she focuses on one thing. she zones in on minjae’s last words.
“did he threaten you?” the way her heart leaps, threatens to spill out her chest with worry. they way mina’s always tried to keep minjae away from things like this - only for it to blow up in her face like this. minjae flinches at the question and she doesn’t know enough, doesn’t know if that’s her answer or if it’s just out of shame. she doesn’t know and she’s realizing just how much she doesn’t know.
“jae...what did he say?” ‘i told him to keep his mouth shut.’
everything stops for a minute, but it’s just a minute. it’s just long enough. mina’s eyes zero in on the figure by the door, the figure she hadn’t even heard enter because she’d been so focused on her brother. lion is bounding immediately to her side behind the bar, obviously disturbed and her stomach curdles at the realization of who yunho’s been.
the stranger, the regular who’d managed to catch a few dances with her in the past months. the one who’s been so kind, such a welcome change to the atmosphere. he’d heard her sigh into her palm in late nights, danced across the empty bar floor with her, and seen her with her heart almost flayed open in comfortability.
her fingers shake as they settle around the shotgun. it’s anger. it’s shame.
she’d been careless.
yunho stands tall in the doorway and she wonders how she didn’t realize it was him, with such an ugly sneer making its way across his face. he’s the same height, and suddenly he’s towering more than the meek gentlemen she’d been spending nights with, unaware and careless.
‘i told him to shut up if he wanted you safe.’
it’s supposed to be a warning shot, as he steps closer inside but mina finds that the shotgun shoots nothing, coughs up a blank. that ugly sneer of yunho’s grows on his face.
‘i knew it was a good idea to empty that. i knew minjae would snitch after i gave him a proper smack.’
her attention shifts to him, hands on him immediately and pistol forgotten. she’s searching his face, clothes, for a sign, for a reason why she didn’t notice it. so much that she didn’t see. she does see how he flinches at the handling, and sees how his hair covers the hint of a bruise on his temple. she hadn’t noticed any of it before. her stomach curls so bad she thinks she might throw up.
“what do you want?” ‘our engagement - regardless of your escapade it’s still on, and you owe me an entire fifty percent of your parents’ company.’ “what are you talking about?”
‘the humiliation - the reputation i am owed - the money i lost out on after you abandoned our engagement. you’re going to help me get it all back.’ one of the many reasons for mina’s decline of the engagement had less to do with yunho’s personality ( which is more of a recent development it seems ) but the nature of their family’s business and the truth of the money and what lies under it. for all their empire is and all that it’s built in big cities like new york, hong kong and seoul, the underbelly is dirty money, it always is. after discovering such a thing, mina decided she wanted no part of it. to have to uphold such standards for such lies, she would rather exile herself and live like this. and it’s always the money, the money that drives people to the state yunho is in before her. “i won’t.” she hears a chuckle. ‘it wasn’t a suggestion. i know everything. i know you’re harboring a government fugitive on the second floor, i know a family that’d pay a heavy sum for that little girl who’s here as well, i know your family would drag you and your brother back by your neck and i know several gangs that would cut your bodyguard’s hands off finger by finger if they found him. don’t get me started on where i have to poke to hurt that wretched mess of a boy who sticks around you.’
and there’s the reason for it. for the reason he stands so tall, for the reason mina feels slimy in her own skin, violated and open by this man who knows too much, who learned too much and took advantage of her peace to turn it upside down at the right moment. everyone close to her, minjae, kae, hyejin, yeonhee, hanbyul - all people she would very well take a bullet for. she knows yunho - much more than minjae could understand. she knows his connections, she knows the threats he talks about aren’t light as they’re things she’s considering when choosing what to do with herself and who to care for.
for him to threaten them so easily, the peace she’s built up - and with a smile on his face!
mina doesn’t even feel herself reach for the pistol under her belt she just hears the click of the revolver.
she’s spent years, years building this safe haven. she’s spent years, relocating and rebuilding and reimagining who she wants to be and how separate she wants to be from the life she was born into. things were good, she’d managed to stay here so long, she’d found her brother and was in a spot where he could see her and she had no guilt. she’d built it all and she holds it close by the promise to always look after them.
yunho threatens to tear it down in a matter of seconds.
the pistols centers on his head.
‘you don’t want to do that. if i don’t return to my guards, this place is toast.’ ‘noona just - it won’t be that bad if you go with him right? i’ll be with you. you’ll take over the company, you’ll be able to do what you want after right?’ minjae’s voice borders on pleading. he doesn’t know - and how could he, she’s never told him. no one in the family’s ever told him. she’s kept it quiet because that was her duty as an elder sibling and also because she preferred his recklessness in its boyishness. she didn’t want this, the genuine fear - and the hopeful tinge in his voice. he still thinks the life she lives isn’t by choice, but by something else. he thinks she’ll still be happier in luxury, he just wants the best for her. she can’t hold it against him for what he doesn’t know. nothing about that life, that family, or their family is freedom.
her pistol remains trained.
“minjae get out of here.” ‘i - i can’t leave you here.’ all it takes it a look for him to startle up, and take a few steps towards the back. mina watches yunho move and in seconds there’s a warning shot right by the steps of the back door. lion recoils into mina’s side and minjae freezes.  “leave him out of this.” ‘imagine how happy your father will be.’
“i’m not going back with you yunho.” ‘you are, we can set the wedding for a week from today.’
“minjae get out of here and call kae.” ‘your guard - remind me, how is he?’
mina’s skin prickles and her finger teases the trigger. she files through her brain, pushes past all the signs that she’s been useless up until now. she ignores the feeling that he’s toying with her, the paranoia, and realizes that she hasn’t heard from him all day. a glance at her watch shows he’s missed a check in, something they do just because of the nature of his job. yunho wouldn’t know about that unless.....
“where is he?” ‘who knows.’
mina fires the first shot into the wall beside his head.
“where is he!” ‘come with me, and he’ll be safe. come with me and everyone will be safe.’ as if on cue, lion starts rubbing against her leg, and mina’s hands lower, slowly, until the pistol is white knuckled in her fist on the counter. she wonders if she’s always been this predictable, wonders if this has been a weakness all along and not the strength that everyone has always told her.  “you swear? if you’re lying you won’t live past our wedding night.” the words seem to trigger a switch and yunho takes a faux bow in the middle of the doorway. ‘you have my word.’ that signals the final release of mina’s hold on the weapon. she’s not sure what strength helps her to walk over to where yunho is but she makes it there.
‘wait - don’t -’ she never wants to hear minjae this desperate again. “minjae, it’s going to be okay.” it’s really all she can. it’s all she can whisper back, whether the words actually make it out after the first few tries, whether she can allow herself to make a noice and hint that she’s not completely sure. but there’s guards on the opposite side of her and they discard of everything that could pose a threat in her pockets.
‘we’ve got a lot to catch up on.’she wrenches her head free from his grip -  to no avail as they help bring her to the stretch van that’s outside. she hears lion’s barks from the interior of the van and minjae’s calls to her despite not wanting to look back.
she hopes she’s made a sensible decision.

Shuichi x Kaede: Kaede helps her boyfriend Shuichi cope with his trauma through music
·       How. How did this happen!? Why was this happening!? Kaede’s mind was but a blur as she heard another gunshot ring, Shuichi collapsing to the ground, blood pouring from his face. How did it turn out like this!? They were just out on a date, so why?
·       Their date.
·       It all started out as an average day. Keade had gotten back to Japan from doing a tour in Europe. To celebrate, her and Shuichi decided to have a day long date. They didn’t have a plan for the day, so they simply wandered around town. They missed one another and just wanted to be together, it didn’t matter what they did, as long as they were at one another’s side.
·       “Hey, Shuichi, let’s do some karaoke!” Pulling on Shuichi’s arm she pointed towards the building with a message board out front reading karaoke sessions rooms were on sale. “Well… I’ve never really sung before, sorry if it’s awful.” “Nonsense, I’m sure you’ll be great! Let’s go!” Hand in hand they eagerly skipped into the establishment.
·       As they entered their karaoke room, they didn’t notice the pair of eyes that trailed behind them, glaring deadly daggers. The door to their room had a window in it and the television was across from it, so when their backs were turned being preoccupied with the television…
·       A loud bang rang out as Shuichi suddenly fell forward, collapsing onto the table. He managed to flip around to see what the hell was happening. “Kaede!” Another shot rang out as Shuichi tackled Kaede to the ground.
·       They couldn’t stay here, they needed to escape. The only exit was being blocked by the attacker though. Didn’t matter, Shuichi could disarm the criminal. It was going to be okay. It was going to be okay. That’s what he kept telling himself as he charged for the door. “Huh!?” It was locked!? They didn’t lock the do-
·       He collapsed to the ground; face completely bloodied. “Shuichi!” She couldn’t just sit around, Kaede had to do something! Grabbing a stool, she smashed it through the window, chucking it with all her might. It managed to knock the assailant to the ground and some workers arrived trying to restrain the man.
·       “Shuichi!? Are you alright!?” Blood just poured from his eye as if it were a fountain. “Shuichi!” Placing her ear to his chest she could feel his heart rate quickly fading. “k… kae… de.” His face had already paled so quickly. “Shuichi! Don’t talk. You need to keep your strength!” She tried to be calm, to not sound so scared and panicked, she needed to be strong for Shuichi right now. It all happened so quickly, she didn’t know what even happened. One moment they were happy, now she sat beside Shuichi feeling so lost and terrified, not knowing what to do.
·       Wait.
·       No, there was something she could do!
·       Whipping out her phone she immediately called the police for help. Even as she spoke, she squeezed Shuichi’s hand, letting him know she was still there.
·       The moment the call ended Kaede dropped the phone. “Hey, hey, Shuichi, you can still hear me, right? Don’t talk, just please, squeeze my hand, blink, something.”
·       It killed Kaede to not be in the ambulance with Shuichi, but she understood.
·       Shuichi died, just for a moment. Defibrillators had to be used on him on the way to the hospital. He was sent straight to the emergency care unit for surgery.
·       Kaito and Maki were by Kaede’s side as she had to wait those three suspenseful days before Shuichi was in stable enough condition to have visitors. Now that the incident was over and Kaede could really let it sink in what had happened, she bawled her eyes out. It was all just so messed up and all she could think of was wishing Shuichi would be alright and why all this even happened.
·       To her surprise, she did get an answer.
·       Kaito and Maki stayed behind to give Kaede a chance to be alone with Shuichi. The moment Shuichi saw her, he broke down into sobs, saying everything was his fault. Kaede silently listened to his explanation on how he recognized the man, it was the culprit from that case that got him the title of ‘ultimate detective’. Shuichi was an absolute wreck. It wasn’t even a planned revenge, they just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time after the guy had escaped prison.
·       Kaede gently gripped his hand, trying to keep him grounded while his mind reeled from the events that led to this.
·       Shuichi laid there crying and hugging himself. He just absolutely blamed himself for everything. Normally Kaede would refute him and get him back to his senses, but he didn’t need that right now. He was completely exhausted, he just needed comfort.
·       She placed a hand on his cheek, wiping away those tears with her thumb, she gently tilted him to face her a little. Her stomach churned seeing how where his second eye used to be was wrapped in bandages and just… sunk in. “Hey… I never got to show you the recordings of my concerts. Want to watch some now?” Slowly he nodded. She took out her phone and played the first recording. The first song she played was Clair De Lune. Shuichi tried to just focus on the music and nothing else.
·       Shuichi was not the same after the incident, even after leaving the hospital. All the confidence he had gained through the support and training with Kaede, Kaito and Maki just shriveled away. He was a shell of the person they first met. He tried easing into his detective work but… he just couldn’t do it. Every time he tried, this overwhelming terror and dread consumed him. It was so bad he’d often get panic attacks. He also got those attacks when in locked or small rooms. No matter where he was, he needed to know where a quick escape exit was. With the help of therapy, he was able to get better, but he still couldn’t bring himself to go back to work anymore.
·       Kaito tried training with Shuichi again, hoping it would help. They ended up fighting on several occasions and though it wasn’t the best for Shuichi’s mental health, it at least came from a place of care and genuine love. Kaito tried his best to get the message he wanted out without getting into fights.
·       It seems the only thing that could ever ease his emotions was hearing Kaede play the piano. Whenever she played, he was able to just focus on nothing but the music. After Shuichi quit being a detective Kaede began to teach Shuichi the piano. They had already started these lessons long ago, but now they could do it in earnest dedicating all their time to it.
·       Shuichi actually got pretty good at it, but… he like hearing Kaede play. He wanted to do more than just follow her lead all the time. He wanted to contribute something to her. Yes, there are piano duets, but Shuichi felt like he’d just be holding her back. He wanted to truly play WITH her.
·       He started to practice playing the cello.
·       Though in the beginning he only knew scales and the most basic of basic songs Kaede would start playing the piano while he practiced, making up a melody to surround his keeping of tempo. It made practice rather fun. With Kaede making up the melody they never played the same song twice together even if Shuichi was playing the scales for the ten-thousandth time.
·       Once Shuichi was better at playing the cello than he was at piano, him and Kaede began to look up more complicated duets to play together as practice.
·       Shuichi would follow Kaede wherever she went for concerts, them playing a duet together before her show. Doing this always calmed her nerves no matter what song they played.
·       Once Kaede was going to perform with an orchestra, but one of their leading cellist suddenly fell ill. “Oh, Shuichi can take their place!” “W-what!? No I can’t, I’m just a novice.” Taking his hand, she gently dragged him towards the conductor. “He’s just being modest! Shuichi is amazing! I’m sure he can fill in the role, easily, just give him a day or two to practice the song and he’ll be good to go!”
·       Somehow, she did manage to convince the conductor to give Shuichi a chance and so the next few days were spent practicing nonstop. When the day finally came the conductor thought Shuichi had been practicing the song for years, they were so impressed.
·       It was a… very strange experience for Shuichi. He didn’t want to think about it, but hearing the conductor’s words Shuichi was confronted with the fact that he had used his skills as a detective. The reason why he was able to pick up songs so quickly was because his mind still worked like that of a detective, those skills were warped and transferred to playing the music. He was able to quickly memorize the pieces and pick up on patterns that even the most experienced of musicians may have missed. He… didn’t know how to feel about this.
·       When they were alone, Kaede tried encouraging Shuichi telling him that even if he had gained those critical thinking skills as a detective, they didn’t have to only be applied and associated with that. He could use those skills to make new happy memories.
·       Shuichi was absolutely enamored on the day of the concert, playing with everyone in harmony. Hearing Kaede on the piano, how her, his own, and everyone else’s melodies filled the air. How to him, there was simply nothing but the beautiful music.
·       Through this Shuichi ended up making connections and wound up being the only cellist in another concert. On Kaede’s excited insistence he accepted the offer of being part of it.
·       Quickly he began to play more and more, though… him and Kaede were going down different paths. Sometimes they’d get to play together but most of the time they ended up in different countries. Soon after this began both Kaede and Shuichi announced they were taking a short break from their careers. During the break they ended up practicing the piano together again, and Shuichi started teaching Kaede the cello.
·       About a year or so later they returned to the stage. A single concert for the Hope’s Peak High School class reunion, Shuichi on piano and Kaede on cello. It was a fun night, getting to see everyone again. And, most importantly, it was a carefree night. Starting that night there were many days where Shuichi’s past seemed to not plague him. He was so full of life and vitality some of their classmates asked if he was even the same person.
·       They played one other time before going on a world tour as a duo, and that was for their wedding.

Epilogue Celebration: Couples
Eyyyy, sorry to hit you up twice in one day, but...  I’m behind, so here we are!
I will chat a bit about 2028 couples below the cut!
Keep in mind that the crew are all adults in this discussion.
Taichi
Look, I’m sorry, I really am, but...  Ya boi is a mess, romantically.  I really can’t wait to get into this in a fic, but Taichi chose a difficult life as an ambassador in the time when Digimon and humans are first coming together.  And while I think Taichi is good at surface-level flirting (and also has a strong mind-body connection and physical stamina for... adult activities), I...  Really...  Don’t think...  He Relationships well.  Er.  Sorry.
So, um...  I think his dating life is both varied and... stormy.  Lots of casual dating of all kinds of people, but it’s rare for him to introduce anyone to friends and family.  Plus, in the wake of... Kizuna events, he starts off adulthood...  With a lot on his heart and his mind.
It takes him a long time to find the mother of his child, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t marry/if they separated/if he somehow ended up with someone else.
The good news is that Taichi learns and grows from everything.  I know that someday, he’ll find the right person, and he’ll always do his best for his son.
Yamato and Sora
I’m influenced by @adventure-hearts on this one, but I think Yamato and Sora dated on-and-off again during different stages in their lives.  They both have enormous dreams that came before their love life, until one day...  I can’t tell you if it was emotional, or if their paths suddenly merged somehow, but someday, they fell into step and stayed there.
I think they’re very happy together, but have an unconventional life.  They spend a lot of time apart because of their jobs, and they rely on their wide net of family and friends to help with the kids.
I think they are extremely well suited to each other and have a great marriage, but...  They both have a tendency to internalize, pull back, and brood.  They’re constantly working on their communication.
Koushiro
I think that Koushiro struggles romantically in his late teens/early twenties.  He seems to very much want a girlfriend, but he never can spare the time to look for one...  And when his friends set him up, it tends to...  Go... Poorly.  Poor dude puts his foot in his mouth, freezes, or just... doesn’t know how to relate to people outside of digimon and computers/math/science.  He also tends to try too hard, to the point where it’s a Bad Look.
My opinion is that Koushiro needs someone... very specific to handle his, um... Koushiro-ness.  I pair him with Anami Eimi,  a digimon biology researcher whose heart sometimes supersedes her mind.  The idea is that they’re both introverted and research-oriented, and they can gab about their ideas forever.  But Eimi is warm, with strong social skills and social intelligence.  She can’t touch Koushiro’s level of genius, but she’s smart, hardworking, and injects creativity and thoughtfulness into her work.  She also foresees the social and political implications of the latest developments in Digital World and digimon research/technologies, where Koushiro tends to focus on the immediate problem (you can’t blame him; he’s constantly asked to put out sizable fires.  There is always more fire.  So much fire).
They probably work together off and on for a long time before one of them realizes, oh.  The part after that is probably a mess, knowing Koushiro, but they get there!
Koushiro’s polite nature and Eimi’s private one make it so that strangers wouldn’t know they’re married.  Still, Koushiro’s close friends, like the Chosen, see the way his eyes follow her, especially when he’s uncertain and wanting social cues.  They have a quiet, stable partnership, which Daisuke describes as, “Married and boring,” but they’re very happy.
And Koushiro is very curious, the type who wants to try everything at least once, eyyyyy.
The only thing causing tension is Koushiro working too much and failing to care for himself properly.  Luckily, Kae and Masami live in the same apartment mansion, and Kae has eased their marriage when needed by cooking, cleaning, calling Koushiro to remind him of Important Husband Things, and making general suggestions about how an erring husband might smooth things over with his ruffled wife.  That last one usually consists of, “Bring home dinner/get your ass home/get your ass to sleep/why yes you DO need to apologize for that.”
It also helps that Eimi loves Tentomon, an accomplished Koushiro-wrangler and general peace keeper.
Mimi
Mimi’s all about fun, novelty, and freedom.  She dates around and has casual partners of all varieties.  Eventually, she decides to co-parent a child with her long-standing romantic interest.  They share custody of their son, who also spends a lot of time with grandparents and friends, including the Chosen.  Mimi and her son’s father have an understanding that they see other people while they’re apart, but don’t bring them around their son without discussing it first.  It’s all amicable, chill, and provides their son with an enormous support network.
I don’t know if Mimi would ever settle down.  I think she loves her life with a lot of variety and spontaneity.
Jyou
Marries his high school sweetheart, Bike Girl.  They’re both doctors, so they struggle to get enough time together.  But Bike Girl is sweet, loving, and most importantly, calm and grounded.  Jyou is a huge romantic softy who spoils his wife and takes care of her.  Although they both wish for more time together, they get on amazingly.  Jyou always feels this... wonder and gratitude that he’s married to her.
I won’t lie: Jyou is the best husband.  The other Chosen men wish they could husband as well as Jyou.
Takeru
I really don’t know what to make of this troll.  Sometimes, I think he’s a charmer who dates around a ton, and eventually had an “oops” baby that he amicably co-parents with an ex.  Sometimes, I think he settled down early and started a family, because he wanted that stability and love and constant presence that he didn’t have as a kid.  Sometimes, I wonder if he eventually divorced and went on to later marry a certain childhood friend...
What can I say, he’s a man of mystery.
Hikari
Ahhh, why is this is sooooo hard?
Part of me really wants to see Hikari as an independent woman, and quietly proud about it.  Clearly, she has a child...  Maybe she had her son and later divorced?  Or maybe she’s happily married?  I also admit that I do want to see her with Takeru, at least eventually...
Lots of possibilities here!
Daisuke
Oh, he definitely had an “oops” baby with an ex and is currently trying to find a husband or wife.  Or maybe he did?  Maybe he did!
Miyako and Ken
They’re married, and they are gross about it, lol!
Seriously though, they get on so well.  Ken works a lot (Digimon Police is a tough job), and sometimes Ken needs to find peace and quiet in his home (merry wife + loud kids + MULTIPLE kids = TOO MUCH), so there is sometimes a little tension when Miyako wants more of his time.  But they manage it, and they keep their family and home running smoothly and happily.
I just... picture it as this ideal family, at least for someone desiring a loud, joyful, energetic, nuclear family.
Iori
Iori married early to a down-to-earth woman who specializes in elderly care.  His wife has a big heart and a kind, patient nature.  While she loves and respects Iori’s zeal for helping others, she gently reminds him to take care of himself and his family first.  She also provides perspective when he gets set in a stubborn mentality.  Happily, she enjoys sharing a large apartment with Iori’s mother and grandfather.
Iori is sometimes too focused on the problems of others to see his loved ones properly, and that’s something he works on with his grandfather’s guidance.  When he has his daughter, he instantly reassigns his priorities around her, which softens a lot of his problematic areas.  Also, he married a woman who knows how to help him redirect his thoughts.  He feels genuine amazement that he’s with her.  They have a relationship that is... quietly intense.
AND I AM DONE FOR TODAY, WHEW!

Grid Ghost Chapter 9: Coming Together
Obake's personal home lab was just like how he remembered it. Not a single thing out of place.
An assortment of tools, homemade tech, three main work tables, perfect lighting and all the thinking room he could ask for.
His sanctuary.
Sure, it wasn't large like some of the labs SFIT had, but it was just big enough for him and it had all he needed.
Including good company.
"Alright, testing range of motion. Ready, Trina?"
Trina nodded, holding up a hand.
"Ready, Dad."
Obake closed his eyes, the left side of his face glowing a faint purple, his ears tuning into the electromagnetic sounds that resided in the robotic skeletal framework that stood before him.
I need this to be just right. No rush jobs this time.
Walk to Trina and shake hands with her.
The framework shook a bit before it stood up straight, leaving its stand, walking right over to Trina, offering a hand to her. Trina giggled, grasping its hand, giving it a firm shake.
"Nice to meet you, O-bot-kae."
"Ha ha, very funny." Obake chuckled. "I'm not calling him that though."
"Awww why not?"
"How many crooks are going to take the name O-bot-kae seriously?"
"... Okay, but I'm still gonna call him that in private."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night."
Now, return to your stand.
The framework moved back to it stand, going slack as Obake disconnected from it. The glow from Obake's face faded, the man rubbing his left temple a little.
"Well… the framework is stable and my technokinesis still works. Only downside is a mild headache. Probably need to calibrate it better so it doesn't require as much focus. Once I have the old bot that'll be easy to do."
Trina frowned at this, going over to Obake, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Maybe you should take a break though. We've been at this for awhile and… Dad, you're still wheelchair bound. In fact, last I checked, Mom insisted you stay in bed."
"I would, but I wouldn't be able to sleep." Obake had a serious look in his eyes. "We need to solve this Dragoness issue now before it gets worse and I can't do that if I'm stuck in bed just lying there. I'm not going to let that woman ruin Tadashi's life. He's already been through enough and the least I can do is make the effort to help him so he doesn't wind up somewhere worse."
Trina squeezed his shoulder.
"You're not gonna be much help to him if you're plastered to the floor."
Obake sighed, looking up at Trina, concern written in her features.
"... Alright. 15 minutes then we're getting right back to work."
"Good enough."
Trina wheeled him out of the lab to the patio they had in the backyard of their house. Trina sat down on the ground next to his wheelchair, stretching a bit.
"Nothing like fresh air to help clear out of the head."
He smirked.
"I could think of a few-"
"Nope. You used up your puns involving tumors in the hospital."
"... Darnit." He ruffled her hair, his gaze softening. "I'm glad to be home. I missed you."
"Missed you too." She reached a hand up, taking his into hers. "Your head isn't bothering you too much, right?"
"Not as much as it was back in San Fransokyo." Obake squeezed her hand. "I'd go days without resting because it hurt so much. But during that time I didn't really think of it as pain. I thought of it as motivation to keep working."
Trina frowned, squeezing back, concern in her eyes.
"Dad, that's awful."
"I know… and that was my problem. I didn't know anymore what was right or wrong - even when it came to resting."
"Well, that's not flying here. You're resting whenever we tell ya to. Got it?"
Obake chuckled, giving her a gentle look.
"I promise I'll be more careful now. Besides… I can actually sleep now."
"And I'll make sure you'll get as much as you need."
Obake ruffled her hair again.
"Thank you, Little Star."
"Nawww, how touching."
Both jumped, looking behind them to see Eboni and Tadashi present, leaning against the doorways of the sliding glass door, both wearing gentle smiles on their faces.
"You're adorable, ya know?" Eboni chuckled.
"Not exactly something I hear often." Obake chuckled, facing them fully as Trina turned him around. "Did you find the robot?"
"Sure did. We already moved it to your lab and it's ready to be worked on… Though, one small request."
"Hm?"
Eboni narrowed her eyes.
"PLEASE let me oversee the reworking of this robot. What I found is just a disgrace to robot craftsmanship."
"... Honestly, I can't even deny it. I'm well aware he was basically trash. Hiro and his companion thrashed him particularly well." Obake shrugged. "I created him in a manic state. There was no real testing process involved."
"Well, no excuse." Eboni smirked. "You're an SFIT genius, right? Show me what you REALLY can do."
He grinned.
"Gladly. Trina to-"
"After you're done resting!"
"Help me."
Tadashi turned to go inside.
"How about lunch THEN we can get to work, hm? I'll make Arroz con Gandules."
Obake's stomach growled… as did Trina's.
"... That sounds wonderful actually."
Trina jumped up.
"Can I help?"
"More the merrier."
"Sweet!"
"Come on then. We got work to do."
ooooo
It was late when Kim got home. Not out of the ordinary for her. Just the life of being a doctor or any medical profession for that matter. Work long shifts, come home tired. Though honestly her mind was still processing what was now "normal" to come home to.
As she entered the house, she could hear activity in Obake's personal lab. She smiled. She had missed that. She always loved coming home to hear Obake and Trina cheering over an experiment gone well or them laughing over something that might've gone horribly wrong. Regardless, they were sounds she welcomed back.
Though Bob better have been resting like I asked. He shouldn't be up and about too much. He just got back from the hospital two days ago and those incisions haven't completely healed yet.
She poked her head in the lab, seeing what was going on.
Obake and Eboni were working on the head of a robot, while Trina and Tadashi were working on the limbs of said robot, all chatting about progress of their respective jobs.
It's like he never left. He just has more assistants now.
Obake looked up, taking note of Kim.
"Ah, Darling. Welcome home."
Everyone looked up, waving at Kim.
"Hey Dr. A/Kim/Mom!"
Kim smiled, leaning against the doorway.
"I see you four have been busy. Care to share?"
Trina looked to Obake.
"Think you can do that technokinesis trick again?"
"I think so." Obake looked to Eboni. "The brain of the robot should be fully functional, yes?"
"Yeah and the face isn't ugly looking anymore so you won't scare the daylights out of your wife."
Obake shook his head.
"Well, let's get it attached and then everyone backs away so I can show our progress."
Everyone nodded, Eboni and Obake reattaching the head while Trina and Tadashi rolled away from the work table. Once Eboni was done helping reattach the head, she backed away as well.
Obake took a deep breath, the left side of his face glowing purple as he connected with the robot's brain.
Let's say hello to Kim. Just sit up and talk for me.
It was a moment before the robot shook to life, sitting up slowly, waving to Kim.
"Hello, Darling."
Kim stumbled back a bit at the robot bearing a perfect resemble to her husband.
"G-Goodness I was not expecting that!"
"Woops, guess you still scared the daylights out of her anyway." Eboni shrugged, a smug grin on her face. "Then again, it's a robotic twin. Guess anyone would be surprised."
The robot gave a sheepish look.
"Sorry, Darling. Hope it wasn't a bad surprise."
Kim took a deep breath, composing herself, before going closer, examining the bot with her eyes.
"... It's incredible. You're experiencing every bit of feedback the robot gets?"
"As much as I can handle. As well as simply moving on its own."
Kim narrowed her eyes, turning to Obake, raising an eyebrow.
"You better not have gotten out of that chair, bub."
Both he and the robot held up their hands in an "I surrender." pose.
"No, no, no need to worry about that, Darling! I didn't get up except maybe twice, I swear."
Kim sighed in relief before a sneaky grin came to her face.
"Then… can I do a test of my own?"
"Hm? If you wish."
She cupped the robot's face in her hands before kissing it's forehead quickly, her eyes locked on her husband.
Obake's cheeks immediately turned red at this.
"You just kissed metal without hesitation."
"Now, now, no need to get jealous of yourself."
Tadashi, Eboni and Trina all broke down laughing.
"Careful, it might snatch her up in the night!" Trina banged her hand on a table. "And take her for a joy ride!"
"O-Or out for a romantic bar run for oil!" Eboni laughed, leaning on Tadashi a little.
"Oh, ha ha!" Obake rolled his eyes. "Verrry funny."
Kim giggled before going to his side, kissing his cheek.
"I like your warmth better anyways."
He grinned, kissing hers.
"Oh, you."
Eboni had to cover her mouth.
"Hey, Bob, might wanna disconnect from the bot. It tried to kiss thin air."
Obake straightened up at this.
"One second."
The glow from his face faded as the bot lied back down, its eyes closing.
"There we are. Was a little too in sync."
"Ya sure about that?" Eboni snickered.
"You want to try a throw?" He grinned.
Trina leaned over.
"He knows how to do it. Don't tempt."
"Oh, I ain't risking that. Nope."
Obake shook his head.
"Regardless, we're almost finished with refurbishing. Just need a few finishing touches and then…" He eyed Tadashi. "Bait."
"... I hate whenever you say that and look at me like that."
Kim gave a flat look, giving Obake a pinch on the shoulder, causing him to flinch.
"Call him bait again and no shoulder rubs for a month."
"B-But, Darling! I'm still healing!" He protested.
"My dearest… the patient card stopped soon as we brought you home." She smiled… a very chilling smile that made him wince.
"Y-Yes, Darling…"
"Good. Now, that aside." Kim's look turned serious. "How are you going to lure her out? I doubt she's going to come waltzing out without a tip of where Tadashi is."
"That's where I come in." Obake looked to the robot. "My robotic twin will be on the lookout for her. She's bound to come out of her little hiding hole at some point. He'll be staging a capture. We figure she's possibly tracking Tadashi by heat signature since he does run on a higher temperature than the average human being. Can't confirm but it's the most likely possibility. Either way, she'll come, I'll bargain with her, then she'll lead us right back to her base."
"Then we get the jump on her." Trina grinned, pounding a fist into her hand. "And wreck everything in sight."
"Not everything. Gotta keep some things intact for evidence and for possible info we might need." Eboni folded her arms. "Then again, I'll be handling all that with my little bot, Anubis. Plus, she might have some tools that could be useful."
"And that's basically the plan." Obake leaned back in his chair. "It's going to be long and elaborate but anything to put a dent in Liv's research is worth it enough for me." Obake eyed Tadashi. "And anything to help the brother of Hiro Hamada."
Tadashi lowered his gaze a little.
"Anything to help me get home sooner… Might not be a speedy way but we're getting her off the streets. That's the important part."
"And getting her off the streets means less people watching you for Liv." Obake gave him a gentle look. "I promise, you won't be in danger."
"Right." He took a deep breath. "This is still gonna suck though, isn't it?"
"Oh, I'm not even going to hide the fact it might."
"But, you have a few days to prepare since we're not going in guns blazing." Eboni patted his shoulder. "Gotta get this bot finished then set up our little heist."
"Wait." Kim gave a confused look. "But won't Dragoness still be looking for him anyway? If she is tracking by heat signature then she has to be on the prowl."
"We thought of that." Eboni grinned. "And we have a solution." She brought her hand to a necklace that was around Tadashi's neck. It was a simple black cord necklace with a charm that was shaped like a flame. "Bob and I built Tadashi here a scanner disrupter that fits into this tiny little necklace. It'll keep Dragoness from reading his heat signature. He'll just read as a normal person."
"Ah, I see. Thought of everything, huh?"
"We've had to." Obake rested his chin on his hands. "You have to with these kinds of things. I especially did when I was still running around as a crime lord."
Trina gave Obake a weirded out look.
"Do we want to know?"
"You don't." Obake closed his eyes. "That aside, we begin our mission in a few days. The bot should be ready and then we take the Dragoness off the street."
"And after that?" Kim asked.
Obake opened his eyes.
"We move forward onto the next threat."
Till we finally get to Liv.

Must Be Love (Ch. 1)
You can find all my other works here!
This is so hard. Why is school so difficult for me? Minami is a genius! Chiaki, Toma, and Rei are right up there with him. It doesn’t seem like they have to try very hard to do anything! Mei isn’t here. Shizuka won’t be back till late from his photo shoot. Sighing heavily, I gathered my school book and notes. I’m the idiot of the Kira family it seems. I make good grades, because I’d get in so much trouble if I didn’t, but it takes hours of studying and cramming for me to understand the material.
Thankfully, no one was in the hallway to comment on my appearance. I hadn’t bothered to change out of my sweatpants and tank top, or put on any kind of make up today. Not exactly what the Kira image is all about. Knocking on the door, I shifted my weight to one leg impatiently. The door swung open suddenly. “Are you busy?” I asked, giving him a pitiful look.
Chiaki’s eyes dropped to the math book in my hand for a moment before he met my gaze. With a sigh, he smiled and pulled the door open further. “I can take a break to help you study, Kaede.”
Hugging my book to my chest, I couldn’t help but grin. “Good, cause I wasn’t going to leave even if you said no.”
He made me sit at the table in his kitchen, pulling up a chair next to me. The best thing about getting help from Chiaki was that he didn’t press me for a quick answer. He explained things slowly and helped me figure out where I’d gone wrong. Sometimes Toma would get annoyed with how long it took for me to understand what he considered to be simple mathematics. Both of us looked up when the door opened.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” a girl said. She was one of the concierges here… right? She’s been assigned to working the sweet room and our wing of the hotel recently. “I apologize for interrupting.” In her hands was some dry cleaning.
“Try this one, Kaede. I’ll be right back,” Chiaki ruffled my hair and stood to go speak with her. The two disappeared into the master bedroom, where I couldn’t hear what they were talking about.
Tapping my pencil on the paper, I chewed on my lip. Take the equation one step at a time. I get too overwhelmed with the size of the question. The minutes seemed to tick by slowly as I tried to work out the answer to this question. Checking the math twice, I circled the answer.
“I told you that you’d get the hang of it,” Chiaki said, leaning over me to see how I’d done.
“Wait, it’s right?” I asked, hoping that he wasn’t teasing me.
He nodded. “Yes, you’ve done well.”
I grinned, happy to have his approval. The concierge lingered in the room, making me uncomfortable. “Should I go?” Why is she staring at me like that? Don’t tell me she’s already fallen for my brother. She’s only gotten up to this floor a week ago.
Chiaki shrugged his shoulders. “I have some more work to do, but you can stay if you want to study here more.” Obviously, he wanted me to leave.
I shut my book, stretching my arms above my head. “Nah, I’m kind of hungry anyways. I might go out to take my own break,” I said. A greasy burger and fries sounded really good right about now. Cooking had never been my strong suit so the kitchen in my own suite didn’t get much use except for reheating.  “Thanks for helping me. I might make it to graduation after all,” I joked.
Chiaki rolled his eyes but smiled. “Don’t sell yourself short.” He didn’t elaborate. That was a first. Usually, they all joked along with me about my being hopeless in school.
Changing into a blue summer dress, I took my time getting dressed to go out. It shouldn’t be this difficult to get ready to go out to a burger joint, but I had to fit the Kira image. Though, since I’m underage, the media had restrictions about following me around. I’d managed to stay out of the spotlight so far. Once presentable, I grabbed my purse, making sure my wallet was inside, and then headed for the elevator. The private elevator was nice.
On the fourth floor, the elevator slid to a stop, opening its doors. “Kaede? Heading out?” Alan asked, stepping inside.
My heart rate sped up at the sight of him. He was a family friend, Alan Mason. A gorgeous human being. Nodding, I replied, “Taking a break from studying to get some food.” My voice sounded a little robotic. Since I’d met him, I’d had crush on him.
Alan smiled before saying. “Would you mind some company? I was just heading out to eat myself.”
Autopilot took over and I agreed. Alan had never acted like he knew that I liked him. He treated me the same as always. Complimenting me about my appearance. Never making the fact that I was a Kira a big deal. My brothers all said he thought of me as a sister.
We walked down the street to a restaurant that served my favorite burger. Things never changed between the two of us. He told me all about his business, and asked me about school. It felt natural, sitting in a booth laughing with this man. I could do it all the time…
The moment dissolved when someone sat down beside me on the bench, picking up a fry off my plate. “Well, well, making a move on my little sister, Alan?” Minami asked, laughing like the idea was absurd. “She is underage, remember?”
“Yes, I remember how old she is. We were just discussing her graduation,” Alan said. He blew off answering Minami’s question. It didn’t faze him. Of course, he doesn’t think of me like that. His charming smile warmed my heart.
It didn’t stop my cheeks from burning from embarrassment. Minami was watching me out of the corner of his eye, a sly grin on his face. He’s such a child sometimes! “Why are you here?” I asked, angry at him now. He’s going to ruin this! He always takes things too far.
“Don’t be so hostile, Kae-Kae! Can’t your big brother stay for dinner with his favorite little sister?” Minami faked being hurt by my comment. He turned his attention back on Alan. “I heard you’re going to be opening a new line, soon right?”
Alan almost choked on his fry, but nodded. “Yes, but I think now is hardly the time to be discussing it.” It was no secret that he ran a lingerie line, but never had anyone brought it up so casually with me around.
“Hey, Kaede here is almost eighteen. You could hire her on as a model next year,” Minami said, making sure to keep an eye on my reactions. He loved to make me embarrassed.
Trapped in the booth, I dropped my gaze down to my food, completely mortified. Me? A lingerie model? My cheeks grew hot just thinking about being in my underwear in front of Alan. It was killing me to sit here and listen to Minami talk about it. “I should get back to studying. Finals are in a few weeks,” I said, pushing my barely eaten food away from me. “Move, Minami.”
              Let me out!
“But I just got here,” he whined.
I shoved him hard. “Move! I want out!” My voice rose louder than I had intended, drawing unwanted attention. The second he got up, I climbed out of the booth and headed for the door without another word. It took all my strength not to run out of the building.
Once outside and around the corner, I sprinted back toward the hotel. By the time I reached the elevator, I was out of breath. The doors started to slide close, but were stopped by someone pressing the up button. Pulling my bangs down to cover my eyes as I adverted my gaze, I held my breath.
“Reschedule that appointment. I have another shoot that day,” Shizuka said, hanging up the phone. He paused, staring right at me. “Something wrong, Kaede? You’re fidgeting over there in the corner.”
“Just stressed about school. No big deal.” I replied softly.
Shizuka pressed the button for our floor. “Oh really? So stressed that you’re crying?”
The carpeted elevator had drops on the floor. Alarmed, I quickly wiped them away with the back of my hand. “Yep. Just stress.” I forced myself to smile at him. I can’t tell anyone about what happened. If they see I’m upset by it, they might figure out that I like Alan. It’s already horrible with Minami knowing. “I have to check on Rachmaninoff,” I blurted out as we both stepped off the elevator
“Kae, Mei is already—” Shizuka started.
Still having the spare key to Mei’s suite, I retreated inside. He’s been away on tour and I got to take care of his dog. She greeted me at the door, wagging her tail. “You’ll keep my secret, won’t you?” I asked, sitting on the floor by the couch to pet her. She laid her head in my lap.
The familiar click of the door surprised me. Mei walked in, confused by my presence on his floor. Before he could question me, Minami’s voice came loudly from the hallway. “Mei-Mei! Have you seen Kaede anywhere? She isn’t in her room.”
I shook my head with wide eyes, silently pleading: Please don’t tell him I’m here! The panic must have shown.
“No, I haven’t seen her. I need to practice.” Mei shut the door before Minami could worm his way into the suite. Rachmaninoff trotted over to him, uninterested in me anymore. Mei scratched her head. “Why are you hiding from Minami?”
“Because he’s an asshole,” I muttered, leaning back against the couch. Hugging my knees to my chest, I laid my forehead against them. “Can I hide out here for a while? I promise I’ll be quiet.” He’d just returned from tour, but there were events coming up that he’d want to practice for. Mei was amazing at playing the piano. I loved to listen to him play.
Mei didn’t respond, simply walking over to the large piano and sitting down on the bench. After a few moments of silence, piano music filled the air. This wasn’t a piece that he would perform. It was too simple and sounded like a lullaby. He used to play it for me a lot when I was younger. It made me feel warm inside, and just for a moment, I forgot about all my problems. My eyes slid closed and I fell asleep to the soft music.

Living on Icarus Colony Part 1: Tia´s complicated family
Icarus Colony, a flying city located above the American continent, built by humans and aliens just after their existence was revealed by the goverment, filled with species from all sorts of planets, between all the people who live there, a... peculiar... group of people is going to be on the spotlight.
This time we´ll focus on our local cafeinated cop, Tia.
Tia: ZET! GET THE FUCK UP AND HIDE THE ALCOHOL!
Zet: *falls of the chair and screams in fear*
Tia: she is coming, she is fucking coming...
Zet´Rel: please dont tell me you´r talking about HER...
Tia: who else would I be talking about?
Zet´Rel: Emi´ras teneh, Emi´ras teneh, gax é xiaela, é anyo´hon, Emi´ras teneh (basically a prayer in his native tounge used to keep bad spirits away)
Tia: STOP WITH THAT AND HELP ME WITH ALL OF THI-
Both of them can hear footsteps, while Tia´s hearing is not as developed as her father´s race, Zet , being a Nemmenitah, has exepcional hearing, and what can hear is that really specific walk with the same heels that have caused so many nightmares and headaches...
Tia: o fu-
Naga: HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII EVERYONE! *says with an incredibly loud and anoying tone*
Zet: *screams in agony*
Tia: how long are you staying this time?
Naga: for about a month, the doc said that mom needs some time alone cause she is tooooooooo “stressed” with me. Speaking about moms, how´s yours?
Tia: she´s fine...
Naga: does she still listen to death metal?
Tia: what else would she listen?
Naga: k... same room?
Tia: you already know the rules... And before i forget it, Im hiding all the alcohol so you dont end up like last time...
Naga: Im finding that shit!
Tia: no you dont... bitch...
After a few seconds of awkward silence Naga goes to the guest room with the same rutine she always while Tia helps her boyfriend who is currently suffering lots of pain on his... “ears”
Zet: why do we let her stay?
Tia: the others would never let her stay...
Zet: others?
Tia: I never told you the full story, right?
Zet: All I know is that your dad is Aldemarean and you have seven simblings.
Tia: my...OUR dad was visiting all the countries on Earth, somehow he always end up getting a one night stand with some lady, since the possibility of pregnancy was low most of them didn´t think about it twice, as far as we know, Caia was first, then Jules, me, Corbin, Naga, Sage, Nelson and Zack, all from different mothers... We just know each other because when dad found out about us, he made a whole party for us, good thing he is rich...
Zet: wow, I mean... Im used to having a big family but is never like that...
Tia: yeah... Caia is married and has children so Naga cant be around, Jules keeps moving a lot because of work, Corbin and sage are in college and zack is a teen who lives with his mom and step father...
Zet: i´ll help you hide all those poisonous... brevage... things...
Tia: just because you guys can´t drink it without going to the emergency room doesn´t mean we humans have the same reaction... well, some do...
Zet: the one we got back at home are way better...
Tia: those things taste like shit.
Zet: what is with you humans and comparing stuff to feces?
Tia: I got know idea, is just a human thing, I guess being just half human is enought to find it normal...
 Zet: you guys are weird...
Tia: says the one who mixes 10 types of soda with doritos and then microwaves it...
Zet: it reminds me of what my mom used to cook!
Tia: *laughts* but in all seriousness, she doesn´t want to admit it but, she has a problem, I know my sister, is not the firts time she gets cought driving while drunk, I´m a cop so I got access to all of her registers, Im hoping I can do something to help her...
Zet: so she doesn´t end like Xa´rel... *puts his hands on his back and says a prayer for the death) Inah mi´na Kae´tra...
Tia: *hugs Zet*  sorry for bringing that up...
Zet: it´s been a while, is fine, my clan already moved on, I have to do it too...
Tia looks at Zet with a kind face, a strange but pleasant sight sadly interrumped by (again) another one of Naga´s extremely loud screams
Zet: *screams in agony (again)*
Naga: LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
Tia: is that a... IS THAT MY HIGHSCHOOL PHOTO?
Naga: look at little Tia, brackets and bright orange hair! I didn´t knew you used to die your hair at that age!
Tia: GIVE IT BACK YOU SCALY PIECE OF SHIT!
And of course whe couldn´t end this without an emotional moment being ruined...
Zet: *repeats prayer to keep bad spirits away*
Motaki´s notes (Im callin this part by that name): I said I wanted to see if someone was interested on reading this, and I also said it was a slice of life, I got six notes at the time Im posting this and that´s more than enought for me to get some confidence, I guess there are some stuff that may be something you dont spect from something like this so... there´s that...

[Fanfic, 100% Orange Juice] Lazy Sunday
Series: 100% OJ / Suguri Words: 1510 Characters: Suguri, Hime Originally Posted: March 6th, 2017 (original here) A/N: Another SugiHime story. This one was a bit self-indulgent, because it basically started with a tangent that I really didn’t want to let go of, and eventually just tagged a story onto the end of it. I love tangents, but usually try to be a little more restrained nowadays. Still fun as heck, though.
It was a lazy Sunday. Well, it would have been. It was a curious phenomenon; before Suguri met Hime, every Sunday was a lazy Sunday. It was the only flavour of Sunday available. You could perhaps make a call to the manager of the Sunday store and ask her to stock new and innovative varieties of Sunday, and she would simply push up her metaphorical glasses and say, “Our consumer data says that Lazy Sundays are the best selling Sunday by far. Do you know how many Lazy Sundays are being consumed worldwide? In fact, we have a 100% takeup rate. Why would we stock anything else, given that everybody loves Lazy Sundays so much?”
Well, you would say, Lazy Sundays are very nice and nobody is denying that, but a change is as good as a rest, isn’t it? There’s nothing wrong with trying just a little something new every once in a while to see if you like it. The store manager would look at you, check the data on her phone (which looks suspiciously not like actual data and more like a candy-based puzzle game) and say, “Sorry, but it just wouldn’t be profitable for us. If you want Sundays, you’ll just have to abide by the ones we have, or check with one of our competitors. By the way, the only ones we have are lazy ones, and our competitors don’t exist.”
So, defeated, you would slink back to your bed for an enforced lie-in of at least two hours, followed by shuffling about to make an easy breakfast so you could count as being awake at noon. It was the only choice.
Until, of course, Hime appeared. Hime had taken the world of Sunday selling by storm, mainly because she was from Space, and Space’s idea of a Sunday was very different. Mainly it didn’t exist, because having seven days of the week when you weren’t on a chunk of rock hurtling through space around the day’s namesake seemed a little silly.
In the end, Hime had bravely purged any and all traces of the insidious Lazy Sunday from Suguri’s home, because Lazy Sundays bored her and there were few things as dangerous as Hime when she was bored. It brought out her impish streak, which was a mile wide and twice as long, with every step being a new and embarrassing hazard for anybody trying to walk the path. She was a master at unexpected teasing, a 2nd Dan at dry retorts, an unrelenting agent of whimsy that spread her missive of mischief as far as her arms would allow.
In short, Hime had not sat in the core of a spaceship for 10,000 years so she could be bored and sleep in all day. She did, at least, come fully furnished with helpful suggestions for things that would entertain her and keep everybody within an arm’s reach of their sanity.
“Suguri, let’s go visit Saki today.”
Suguri sucked the top of her pen. She was valiantly wrestling with the crossword puzzle, which she knew from experience was harder than wrestling a polar bear. There were things printed words on a sheet of tree pulp could do to your brain that even half a ton of raw ursine muscle and carnivorous intent couldn’t.
“I do enjoy Saki’s company,” she murmured, in between scrawling “apotheosis” into the little box with her childish, loopy handwriting.
“Of course you do. She’s blonde, homeless, and hilariously dangerous. You have a track record with that kind of girl, you know,” Hime said. Hime was currently draped across the loveseat, her head lolling over the arm, looking at Suguri upside down. Her hair was hanging down; her forehead was formidable.
“One girl does not constitute a track record. Ooh, constitute. I think that fits. Anyway, even if I enjoyed myself, what would you do?”
“Gossip about old times, braid each other’s hair, debase myself for baked goods. It has all the makings of a fun afternoon!”
Suguri sighed, and shut her newspaper. It was a reluctant admission of defeat; even her smallest, squigliest handwriting had not managed to compress ‘recalcitrant’ into a space meant for four letters. “Yes, well. Last I heard, Saki was in Brazil. Even with our speed, we’d struggle to fly to Brazil in less than twelve hours.”
Hime pouted. Or perhaps not. Hime was very good at pouting without actually pouting. She would imply a pout, and that made them all the more effective because she could still retain the appearance of being refined and sanguine while being childish. “Oh, boo. I know! Let’s hire out a rowboat. We can enjoy a day on the water. Me, you, the sunshine, dragonflies, reeds, lilypads, krakens...”
Aside from the fact that Hime didn’t seem to know if she wanted to sail down the River Nile or straight down into the cold, pressurised depths of the ocean, Suguri had some private objections to that plan. Firstly, she thought Hime had spent enough time on boats. A spaceship, according to Suguri, was just a boat that happened to be in space. According to Hime, it was a ship, because a boat had to have oars, and could you imagine trying to paddle to Neptune? Neither one of them was correct, but both of them were very passionate about it.
Secondly, Suguri had recently brought home a bookshelf. (She didn’t know quite how she’d done it. She acquired furniture the same way that people acquired lost puppies; it just sort’ve appeared at her ankles one day and she picked it up and fussed it and gave it a loving home). She had donated it to Hime, and kept a semi-close eye on the contents. In the last two weeks, it had accrued a number of books about pirates, and Suguri thought that Hime might not be able to resist an opportunity to swash some buckles.
“Why don’t you take a look at your unfinished knitting projects?” Suguri asked, jerking her head towards the corner. The corner was dominated by a sprawling jungle of worsted spread, in a variety of beautiful pastel colours. Last time Suguri had checked, Hime had been working on a shapeless bundle of cloth that she described as ‘a scarf, but it’s a very postmodern kind of scarf.’
Hime winced. “Aha. I think I’ll leave that for today. One day, I shall have needlework that strikes wonder into the hearts of the gods themselves, but I have thousands of years to attain that skill, so I needn’t be in a hurry.”
Suguri smiled to herself. She had knit, on and off, for a stretch of fifty years in her ten thousand year life, but Hime was adamant about learning to do it herself. The next time Hime went to stay with Kyoko, Saki or Iru, Suguri fully intended to knit her a nice sweater to see the reaction. (Suguri had also, in her past, spent a long time wrangling various ‘postmodern’ knitted garments back into wearable shape, with questionable success.)
“Hah… That still doesn’t solve the problem of what to do. Suguri, do you mind if I spoon feed you three tubs of chocolate fudge ice cream? I feel like that will bring us both closer to enlightenment.”
In Suguri’s opinion, the only thing eating three tubs of ice cream in a row would enlighten her of was her lunch. She took the suggestion as the warning shot that it was. It was time to unveil her secret weapon.
“Hime, how much do you like loud noises?”
“I’m not really a huge fan,” Hime said, conveniently forgetting that she was sometimes a steady source of loud noises.
“Okay. How much do you like Kae?”
“I feel like you just asked the same question twice but in different ways. Oh well. I suppose it depends on how you serve her – rare, medium or well done?”
“Anything less than well done wouldn’t even singe that one. Anyway, she recently made some friends who are also loud and have guitars, and sent us some free tickets.”
“Free tickets! Those are the best kind,” Hime replied wryly. “Oh, but what shall I wear? My wardrobe is rather light on ripped t-shirts and spiked collars, although that could be addressed. Will we need to daub ourselves with eyeliner and draw stars on our faces, do you think?”
With that, Hime launched herself from the loveseat, pleased with the itenerary of the day. It was a fine one. There would be loud noises and moshing, which, in Hime’s understanding, was like dancing except it incorporated violence, and thus was a fusion of two things she was rather good at. There would also be Kae, who would most likely be louder than the band, but always a source of fun. Suguri watched her go, pleased with her work. Although crossword mastery still eluded her, Hime was happy and not sowing gentle chaos in the surrounding area, which was victory enough. Unlike Hime, though, Suguri knew exactly what she would be wearing to Kae’s concert.
Earplugs.

Weaver of Threads excerpt!
So I don’t post very regularly on this blog, mostly keeping Tumblr for my FFXV stuff and focusing on @expectogladiolus.
However, I have been working on my NaNo book. I’m way behind, with only 6 days to write something like 21,000 words, but still.
I thought I would post a little snippet I wrote last night, of Kae and Tomas as they become closer friends. They’ve been studying together at the Citadel library, with Kae, a scholar in the cloister ‘Ankar’, ‘sponsoring’ Tomas, who is a Greycloak squire, an elite soldier in training in the Citadel barracks.
Featuring drinking games with Pallos, a friend of Kae’s from Ankar, Rin, a student from another cloister (called Meakon), a bit of banter, a lot of cactus liqueur, and the first blushings of awkwardness between Kae and Tomas... As ever, your thoughts and comments are always welcome, but I just hope you like it. Bear in mind it is a first draft, work in progress though...
They fell into an easy pattern after that.
Mostly meeting in the evenings, they studied together once or twice a week, depending on Tomas’ gruelling schedule, with drills and training exercises bulking and tiring him out in equal measure. Kae was also forced to spend less time studying, as a number of his tutors noticed he was not advancing as quickly as he had been.
Tomas spent a full week out on winter survival training as the snows closed in as the shortest day of the year approached, and came back with a pronounced limp and a stunningly colourful bruise across his face.
“What happened?” Kae asked when his friend turned up at the library looking decidedly sorry for himself.
“My horse fell,” he said miserably.
“It fell on you?”
“Yeah.”
Kae scowled. In his country riders trained from an early age to get out of the way of a falling beast. “Don’t they teach you how to fall here?” he asked.
“Not much I could do when I was already slipping half out the saddle because the damned beast was fly-bucking around because a fucking snow-grouse erupted out of nowhere under his belly,” he snapped and Kae bit back a laugh. “Stupid thing was going berserk and then it slipped. I didn’t stand a chance. Bruised a rib, nearly got my head smashed in, and my leg broken. And it’s not funny!” he added, seeing Kae’s expression. “I’d like to see you sit something like that.”
“Ok, fine,” Kae chortled, knowing full well that even the best riders could be unseated under the wrong circumstances. “I’m sorry. It looks painful.”
“It is.”
“You want to go do some research?”
“Not particularly,” he said glumly. “I really want to sit by a fire with a mug of something spiked with brandy, and get warm.”
“You want to come to the Ankar common room then?” Kae asked.
They were standing in the draughty antechamber before the library’s Royal Reading Room, and Tomas looked up in surprise. “You’re allowed to let people in who aren’t Ankarites?” he asked.
“Of course,” Kae said. “We’re not like some secret society.”
“I just figured… Fine, yeah, sure. Let’s go. Be nice to see where you spend your time when you’re not hunched over some crumbling manuscript. You don’t mind? I don’t want to stop you from working.”
Kae grinned. “I can’t promise there’ll be alcohol there, but there will be a fire. Although if Pallos is there, there will be. He brews his own moonshine and, fuck me, if it’s not so strong you could get drunk just breathing in the fumes. Might be a bit busy in there at this time of night though.”
“That’s ok, I’m not shy.”
“I know,” Kae said.
“You sound envious,” he joked as they made their way out towards the main entrance to the cloister of Ankar.
Kae shot him a sideways look. “What makes you think I’m not?”
Tomas didn’t seem to have an answer for that, and just shook his head. His walk was slowed by the limp, and he had to hold on as he descended the stairs from the mezzanine level of the archive entrance to the main door of Ankar, but Kae stayed at his pace, used to adjusting his long, loping stride to Fyna’s shorter, more stilted one at a moment’s notice.
“Do many Greycloaks come here?” Tomas asked once at the bottom. He looked a bit winded, but other than that he was his usual cheerful self again.
Kae shook his head. “Not that many. I think Mia had some of your lot over for a game of Xin the other night.”
Tomas looked positively nervous at the mention of the young woman’s name, and asked, “She gonna be there tonight?”
“Dunno, why?” he smirked. “Nervous that you don’t look like your usual pretty self for her?”
“Fuck off,” he said, punching Kae in the shoulder. “She just hangs around the practice yard a lot. That makes me nervous.”
Kae only laughed, touched his access rune to the corresponding one on the locked door, and pushed it open, holding it open for Tomas to limp through behind him.
The first room on their right was a little cloak room, which they bypassed and carried along the well-worn flagstone corridor out into the open-sided cloister walk. The building on their left was three storeys high, and backed straight onto the archives, while the wall at right angles to it ran along the edge of the castle keep, the outer wall of the citadel forming the wall of the cloister. The other two sides of the cloister were where the Magisters of the cloister had their private rooms and studies.
“This way,” Kae said, leading him to a door in the wall against the archives building.
The first floor common room was warm and lively, and chat stalled slightly at the sight of Tomas in their midst, but with a sweet smile, he set the room at ease again. Pallos, an Ahiri boy with intensely beautiful, shadow-dark skin and close cropped black hair, about Tomas’ age, waved a hand at Kae and called him over to where he sat with a pale, blond apprentice who looked maybe a year older than them, whom Kae didn’t recognise. He had a purple trim on his cloak, indicating he was a Meakonite. “You want to join us for a round of Jhinka?” Pallos asked. “Hellana and Aranith were gonna join us, but they had somewhere better to be, apparently,” he laughed.
“Jhinka?” Tomas queried, looking from Kae to Pallos.
Kae rolled his eyes and moaned. “It’s an Ahiri drinking game. I lose every time.”
“I’m in,” Tomas said immediately. “Wait, tell me more first. And you guys are allowed to drink?” He sounded jealous, as the small beer the squires got once a week would definitely not compare to whatever Pallos had in that tall, etched glass bottle on the table.
“Course,” Pallos grinned in a way that said they definitely were not. “First rule is you can’t back out once you’ve accepted. Otherwise you face the loser’s forfeit straight away.”
“You’re just making shit up, Pallos,” Kae snorted. “Ignore him. He’s such a liar.”
Tomas grinned, eyes falling to the board that the Meakonite, introduced as Rin, was already setting up. “Shut up, Kae, and tell me the rest of the rules,” Tomas laughed.
The game began, and three rounds later, Tomas’ throat was raw from the Ahiri cactus liqueur, he couldn’t see any better than Kae could sober, and neither he nor Kae, and nor, they suspected, did Pallos or Rin, have any idea of the score. It became a game of who could move the pieces around the board without knocking the rest of them off in a clumsy, drunken swipe.
“I’ve never understood,” Kae said, his words having gained the philosophising weight of someone who is very drunk, “Why you’re even in Ankar, Pallos.”
“The fuck’s that s’posed to mean?” he giggled. Pallos was actually now sitting in Rin’s lap, but nobody seemed to notice or care, himself least of all.
Kae pouted. “I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen you in the library…”
“Oh, and a fucking library pass is the only way to belong to Ankar is it?” he snorted.
Rin put his hand on Pallos’ shoulders and whispered something in his ear with a shy smile.
“Fine, fine,” Pallos laughed, head rocking back to rest momentarily against Rin’s taller frame. “You’re right. I’m a lazy fucker who should never have been admitted to the Citadel in the first place, but I’m a fantastic channeller, and thus here I am, corrupting my young friends. Another round?”
They played another round, the common room nearly empty by that hour, after which Kae announced that he had to stop or he’d be sick. All this reminded him of the time he’d been given distilled, fermented mare’s milk by a much older cousin on Spring Equinox at the age of ten, and it had gone straight to his head. Though only seventeen, he had a pretty good tolerance for alcohol now, what with a cooperative metabolism and Pallos’ irregular influence on nights such as this one, but he knew when enough was enough. He said so, and Tomas murmured that he should probably head back to the squires’ dorms before he passed out.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had anything to drink,” he said, shuffling to the front of his seat, the pain in his leg and ribs apparently numbed a little by the cactus liqueur. “ButI don’t think I’ve ever been this drunk. There are at least three Palloses…” he said, frowning contemplatively. “Palli? Pallosuses?”
“I like him!” Pallos pronounced, chucking an arm around Tomas’ shoulders and tugging him closer. “Kae, I don’t know why you don’t bring your boyfriend here more often.”
Tomas flushed scarlet and Kae spat his remaining sip of drink out over the board as he finished it.
“Gross,” Pallos scolded as he brushed his knees melodramatically where a couple of spots of liquid had darkened the soft blue satin of his loose, dark trousers. “Seriously, swallow now, you can spit all you like later, ok?”
“By all that is fucking holy,” Kae cursed, adding something even worse in Myrrathi.
“Your language is pretty,” Tomas blurted before he could stop himself. “Seriously, I thought Galēan was the prettiest language under the sun, but it’s not. Myrrathi’s fucking gorgeous.”
Pallos looked slowly from one to the other of them. “You didn’t even deny it.”
“We’re not boyfriends,” Kae and Tomas said at exactly the same time. They turned to look at each other, cheeks still flaming, locked eyes, and burst out laughing.
“That’s just ridiculous,” Tomas snorted. “Why did you even think that? You’ve never even met me before.”
Pallos just shrugged and poured himself another glass of cactus liqueur. “Just a guess, that’s all,” he said sipping it and sliding his hand up Rin’s leg. “Sorry if I’m wrong.”
“You are,” Kae said quietly.
Rin, still silently observing with his dark blue eyes, smiled but said nothing.
Tomas stood and swayed, but stepped back, his cheeks still a violent pink.
“I’ll walk you out,” Kae said.
“Can’t have me falling down the stairs and breaking my neck now, can we?” Tomas said, his hands working unconsciously in rhythm with his tongue in the courtly sign language of Galēa.
“Stop flapping your hands around and concentrate on walking, yeah?” Kae snickered. “C’mon.”
Tomas followed him down to the main door of Ankar. “Thanks,” he grinned. “I had fun.”
“Don’t fall down the well on your way back, ok?” Kae grinned, and Tomas smacked him on the shoulder again.
“See you in the library tomorrow night,” he said.
Kae blinked slowly and nodded, smiling. “Night.”
Watching him limp along the corridor, clinging to the carved stone banister in the wall as he climbed back up towards the archives, Kae felt a twinge in his gut, but he chalked that up to roiling cactus juice and nothing else, and turned back to head to his room.
He avoided the common room, and lay on his bed once he’d brushed his teeth with soda and mint paste that made him feel a little fresher, staring at the ceiling, waiting for sleep to claim him.
I hope you liked this little work in progress extract of Weaver of Threads, my book that I’m working on for my first go at NaNoWriMo. Thanks for reading, and keep a weather eye open for more little glimpses into their world or rune magic...

here have 1,740 words out of 17,600 words of narusaku headcanon
.............i’m goin’ in deep y’all sry not sry (ok i AM kinda sry to those on mobile who have to scroll past this....... i wish mobile didn’t suck like that so you can avoid watching me be a huge dweeb instead of pro’lly what you decided to follow me for hnnnnggh)
these are 2 separate moments I came up with that I eventually tied together after some editing (/fantasizing about my own ideas) passes:
at a gathering with their friends, they both got insufferably cocky about a game involving pairs against pairs, and the stakes kept rising, eventually hinging on some pretty risky bets. when they lost, they were mortified in having to eat the brightly colored crow their friends (conspirators, the useless lot of them!) came up with. they had to temporarily dye their hair the other’s hair color, and couldn’t wash it out for a whole week (or use a genjutsu?). so sakura had to work around the hospital with blonde hair, and pink-haired naruto was at the mercy of his sharp-tongued genin students. people wonder if sakura meant to and if she wants to look more like her shishou, which is cool and all, but most everyone says they like her pink hair better, which is a relief. The most annoying part is the humiliation she feels since she had to do it as the result of her own hubris. he complains about the relentless teasing savagery of his genin students while they’re walking along the canal on their last evening of this punishment, but admits to sakura he doesn’t mind the hair so much and shares he’s often wondered what it’d be like to have his mother’s hair, and pink is similarly distinctive and beautiful and in the same color family. It’s the first comparison of one of her features to his mother’s he speaks aloud, and his heart starts racing because he momentarily forgets she doesn’t know about his mother’s words to find a girl like her. Completely unaware of his thoughts and sudden nervousness, she serenely replies, “I’m sorry she’s not here to experience how sweet her son can be to her… I wonder if she would have liked me? I think I’d have liked her” she actually doesn’t take his silence personally, sort of because she doesn’t think what she said requires a response, but mostly because she’s distracted. they get around some trees at the edge of the pathway right at that moment, allowing a beautiful view of the brilliantly warm-toned sunset. she makes a noise of appreciation and with a childlike wonder he hasn’t seen on her in a little while, she cheerily says, “this sunset has all our colors, Naruto!” “Yeah” he says, a little breathless. “All our colors.” He watches her until she notices (trrrooopey as fuuuuuuck, i know, shut up) and smiles real big at him but humorously admonishes, “Don’t look at me, weirdo! You see me all the time, but you don’t see the same sunset twice” then she faces it again. So he puts his hands in his pockets to stop their quivering as the scene soaks in and suddenly it’s just really hard to see her green eyes with his blonde hair. he turns to take in the sunset too, and he thinks, “she would have loved you, Sakura… we can bet on it” (originally all i’d written here was the first paragraph, and then I think my subconscious LEAPT OUT AT ME the next time I read it to provide this sunset scene -- they’re my rainbow sherbet fighting dreamers ninja family!!!)
~ & ~
In my headcanon world, Naruto and Sakura have five kids, two of which are adopted and three conceived. * I want to note here that I almost never go the “lots and lots of babies” route w/ my otp’s. 3 out of my top 5 do not go on to have kids in my interpretations of them. But for Naruto and Sakura it makes sense, and this is especially based in my conviction he would want to adopt and he would want a big family to experience the exact opposite of his childhood. So, yeah, 5 makes a lot of sense to me. I tend to think they are resistant to the idea of kids for a while bc of the threats to their lives, but they eventually decide they both really want to have kids after fostering two boys and it’s so hard to eventually let them go on to their adoptive parents. Sooo.. their youngest are twins; they’re named Konohana and Sakuya. And my reasoning for this, as well as for all the other names, is pretty in depth. Here: I first heard about Konohana from @yellowflasher‘s great fanfics. She has a Konohana and Kae (not twins), and I asked her once if she named Konohana after the myth, and she said she actually hadn’t seen or heard it before. It obviously stuck with me tho!! Uzumaki Konohana = from the Konohanasakuya-hime mythology. I just discovered with this name theme of using myths I coulda inadvertently referenced Kushina and Minato as well!! -- Kushina’s name could have been derived from Kushinadahime, a goddess of rice/life, and Susanoo is her husband, the god of STORMS aka Namikaze Minato. (Maybe other peeps in the fandom already knew this but I’m late to the party. Oh well! I was shocked when I learned this yesterday.) And it honors Konohagakure, and honors Sakura: ‘flower’ is part of the name. Konohana was conceived (twin to Sakuya)
Uzumaki Sakuya = from the Konohanasakuya-hime mythology. And see above for the comments about the possible Kushina/Minato connection. And it honors Sakura: it’s literally 2/3rds her name; one different ending syllable. & naruto calls her Momo-chan, and I explain why below.
After deciding all this, I came up with this moment: Naruto and Sakura love the names from the princess myth but also love they are referring to Konoha and Sakura. tho, because Sakuya can sometimes sound too similar to Sakura, confusingly so-- and as Naruto’s the only one who has to say both names in the household (y’know, because it’s either “Sakuya” or “mom” said by everyone else, the kids don’t call her Sakura) -- he often calls her “Momo-chan.” as a kid she’s not sure why but just rolls with it and then one day in her later childhood it dawns on her: orange + pink = peach (note: momo means the fruit and momo-iro means the color but I think naruto would just keep it short and simple as momo-- he’d probably argue an orange plus a cherry equals a peach anyway, somehow……... hahhh! I actually looked it up and peaches are in the same genus as cherries and apricots, and apricots are orange :P not that naruto would know this but sakura would be like me and probs research it lol). Sakura expresses concern that Konohana will feel jealous or excluded if he doesn’t give her a nickname too, and he forlornly / guiltily (at having not even thought of that) approaches Konohana with this. She’s rather young to be considering this so thoughtfully -- maybe 4 or 5 -- but her answer never changes as she grows up (though the vocabulary / phrasing she uses might mature…. But I say might, haha); “don’t change me; I love my name!! it is like our home so it means I will become hokage like daddy!! and it is like flowers like mommy’s flower so it means people are happy and have a party when i show up!!” (she’s talking about hanami) naruto immediately bursts into tears bc holy shit he just loves this kid so!! much!!! ( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ _ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ ) sakura’s doing better at keeping it together, tho not by much, lmao
Some months into the nickname of Momo-chan settling in, there’s a morning where it’s brought into question again. while sakura and naruto are folding laundry, the twins rush in from the backyard to show them something they’re excited about in their grubby cupped hands. “Look! loo~oook! polli-wolly-wogs!!” (tadpoles-- i have great affection for this term for them bc mei in the english dub of totoro calls them that, and totoro is a defining touchstone of my young childhood) naruto intones, “eeehhhh? How cool, konohana-chan!! Momo-chan! Maybe uncle Gamakichi knows ‘em, huh?” and they laugh and stick their tongues out at him, “he’s not our uncle! He’s a toad!” yet they’re making ribbiting sounds as they run off to return the tadpoles. Sakuya trips and just narrowly regains her footing at the last moment to prevent toppling herself and the tadpoles across the floor. “careful, momo-chan!” Naruto offers in a loud voice, but calmly-- he holds back his concern, as he’s learned that a lot of the time kids decide whether they should cry based on their parents’ reactions, namely whether they freak out a lot, and he’s done a lot of freaking out, and is trying something new now, pfft. He watches her right herself, check on the tadpoles in her hands, nod once firmly and give a determined “mm!” in acknowledgement of his caution, and they scamper off.
So then Sakura asks, with some humor in her voice even tho she’s going for annoyed: “naruto, why’d we even name her sakuya if you’re just gonna keep calling her momo-chan?” “aahh, sakura-chan. She’s just little momo to her daddy. Out in the real world she’ll be called the name inspired by her mind-blowing mom.” the tinge of pink on her cheeks does not get past him and the side of his mouth starts to twitch into a smirk. He roguishly continues with, “I thought about making you the one I address with a nickname instead, but all the ones I could come up with aren’t appropriate in front of the kids” she tries to look aghast but she’s fighting her mutinous mouth starting to veer into a big smile, and to distract his gaze away from this very visible and losing battle across her face, she twists a towel and snaps it at him. They play fight until they fall onto the bed, halfway into the now half-undone laundry. They rest a little bit, soaking in the calm moment, his upper body on top of her lower body-- resting his head on her stomach and holding her around her waist. Her eyes are closed and she’s absent-mindedly running her fingers through his hair. Then he softly voices, “little peach... she’s our colors, Sakura.” and she does vividly remember the sunset he’s recalling. She answers with his words from years ago: “Yeah. our colors.”
(god i’m really driving home this rainbow sherbet ninja family theme aren’t i???? Don’t care!!!! I love it!!! They are my faves they deserve everything I have to offer!!!!)
THE END.
(....except not bc..... there’s...... uh..... 15860 words left...... yeah those figures..... weren’t hyperbolic, i am actually that much of a dork)

Waffle Recap 9-13
Night 2 of 3 at the hotel this trip.Got in line insanely early because I was coming from Brooklyn and meeting Kae there (she was coming from work in the Financial District). Less than 10 minutes after I decided to just wait in line, a group of several kids showed up. I have to say, I am not loving some of these side effects bleeding over from the Shanghai show. I have noticed that people line up much earlier in the last several months.
First looped with Steph C.’s Danvers. I am not entirely sure why. It was one of those moments where I was truly just drawn to the character and followed my instincts. Steph has never disappointed when I have looped with her characters.
Before she exited the ballroom with Lady Macduff, she helped her off the floor and held her close but was sure that Lady Macduff was close and positioned/forced to watch sexy witch lay out a very passionate kiss on Macduff before leading her away. She gave a very subtle head nod toward the pair as to say “watch what is about to happen”. It was much clearer from an audience perspective than that detail has ever been before and it really laid the ground work for an emotionally complex character Steph spent the next hour portraying.
As Lady Macduff stumbled up the stairs, I struggled to see Danvers hiding in the shadows. I knew where she was waiting but Steph used the corner and the light to almost perfectly blend into the shadows. She was almost completely invisible. It was astonishing.
The Danvers 1:1 was legitimately the best Danvers 1:1 I have ever gotten. She was intense, her delivery was perfect, her positioning throughout was spot on creating perfect visuals. I have never seen it flow quite as seamlessly as it did last night. Steph’s been a resident for a while now and her experience shows big time!
Her feelings of sympathy and love toward Duncan were fervent in every scene they had together. As he slept on the bed and she took his shirt, the audience could see the personal struggle she was grappling with. She sat on the end of the bed and threaded her hand through his shirt sleeve then cradled her neck and face as if it was Duncan holding her. It was a heartbreaking moment.
You could feel Danvers’ resentment in every scene with Lady Macduff and the milk. Step’s Danvers has no qualms with her relationship with the Macduffs. The hated as she wandered through their apartment was real.
Her scene pre-ballroom with Lady Macbeth was once again hard to watch. Taylor’s Lady Macbeth is ruthless. The level of control and manipulativeness was uncomfortable to witness. At one point when Lady Macbeth sits down in the chair, Taylor at and crossed her legs but hiked up her dress as she did so that her legs were on display to mid thigh. Lady Macbeth exhibited clear controlling behavior using her sexuality to force Danvers hand in poisoning Duncan. She pulled Danvers close when she was indecisive putting Danvers hands on her lower back and hip. The way she pulled her close intimately before kissing her only to promptly leave when the poison was administered. The scene was played beautifully making it very emotionally challenging to watch. It makes you feel sympathy for a woman who takes the utmost joy in poisoning and tormenting a pregnant Lady Macduff. There are only a few truly innocent parties in the McKittrick but so many victims.
Adam Griffith’s Taxi is a bit of an intellectual dork and I love it! He is still sinister, make no mistake, but it is truly a new take on Taxi that is very interesting. Love the glasses!
Tori’s Hecate scares me. She is terrifying and I always feel like I am in trouble. I probably am.
Molly Griffin is a terrific dancer! Check her out- her bald witch is very good already.
I have a running fear that Hecate is going to throw me through a wall. I think it started when Tara Franklin’s Hecate pushed me up against a wall during Find My Ring. You all know exactly what I’m talking about if you ever had the 1:1. I am a bigger person. I think that being a bigger person who actors sometimes recognize often results in actors becoming rough with me. I am TOTALLY fine with this. I love a good physical, rough 1:1 or interaction. Go for it, I’m game. EXCEPT when it comes to this particular wall. I am positive that I will eventually be thrown into this wall so hard that the wall will give way and Hecate’s lair will be left in shambles. Like I said, this all stems from a time when Tara (who was the smallest Hecate know to man) pushed me up against this particular wall very hard and it shook (as it always does) and I heard several things falling/breaking on the other side of said wall. I am now totally convinced I this wall is going to give way eventually and Tori does nothing to quell those fears. She is exceptionally good at being intimidating and slamming me into walls. So I’m sorry to all the other people who don’t get 1:1′s after I destroy this wall one of these days. Hopefully, I will come out unscathed.
I watched the last 15 minutes of Danvers’ loop because Steph was that damn good last night and I couldn’t get enough. We headed down to the ballroom, she held my body in an incredibly intimidating way considering she is ½ my size then as we went to walk out together, applause erupted. Not a few people clapping like I have heard maybe once or twice (and I think it is weird then) but full on robust applause. It was still dark as we headed to the stairs but I could hear her burst out laughing which caused me to let out the laugh that I was barely holding onto. The audience tonight was having none of Macbeth apparently! Fuck that guy! It was so weird. I have never heard that level of excitement over the finale before. A first after 70+ shows.
