i think their home is very bright. in color and light and just general atmosphere. even if it's just the institute, i think it's warmer than it was when robert and maryse headed the conclave. (i know this isn't strictly about their parenting but it felt important to set the stage)

they're 'treat your kids like people' parents. they're communicative, providing reasons for rules, making them part of the conversation. and they give their kids space to be themselves. "oh you wanna try out xyz? let's give it a go!" walls can be repainted, bruises can be healed. hair will grow back and messes can be cleaned up. they'd rather give their kids the opportunity to become whoever they want to be than place too many restrictions out of fear for their safety etc.

not that they don't worry ofc, but i think they really try hard to respect their children, and hold their hands more to guide and steady them than to pull or protect beyond what is necessary. it's about being shadowhunters and training them to fight and hold their own, but it goes beyond that.

the whole explaining rules etc. thing ends up being especially important because of how likely the kids are to break them. i mean these are clary and jace's kids we're talking about. they like adventure and excitement and sometimes things get a little out of control. it's helpful for the kids to understand where their parents are coming from, and that there's enough mutual respect for them to abide by the few very important rules etc. clary and jace give them.

and yes, i did say adventure. i feel like their kids are going to end up becoming a little team, getting into shenanigans, making up stories to play out or tell under the blankets late at night. it's the kind of thing jace and clary are both really happy to see develop, having been raised as only children, so they let their kids get into their chaotic games etc. and just make sure they've cleaned up their mess by the end of the day.

in addition to spending time together as a family, i think they also place importance on those one-on-one relationships. especially given how busy clary and jace must be, it does a lot for making each kid feel valued and also giving them the space to just. hang out. and maybe talk about hard things or maybe just joke around in a way that feels personal. jace is teaching one piano and clary sits and fingerpants with their youngest. jace helps each kid pick out their signature weapon and loves spending time in the training room with them.

hi hello, thank you for the encouragement and hugs! After some thought ive realized I do in fact have some hcs about some of the character dynamics in the movie as well as just kenji himself, cause hes captivated my entire brain:

Kenji & Emi

Emi does not have teeth but she does inexplicably have a teething phase. kenji is forced to hide all his (salvaged) fancy cars in the garage bc the corvette's already been chewed to hell and his heart is gonna give out if he has to watch any more classics get wrecked

he reads her bedtime stories. A lot of aesop's fables, because theyre short and fun and hes trying to raise his monster daughter with good morals. emi goes hogwild for these but its unclear if she actually understands what hes saying; kenji's pretty sure she just likes the silly voices he uses for different characters

Lord, have I really been sitting on this ask for nearly two years??

I need you to know, Dearest Anon, that it doesn't feel like I've let this ask go for so long because I have actually had it on my mind that entire time, wanting to answer it and waiting until a good enough answer surfaced.

But I think I was going about it the wrong way. I don't really have a lot of headcanons that exist independently of putting a guy in situations. And if I put a guy in enough situations, I might end up repeating similar ideas until they become headcanons (like my headcanon that Suki has a particular fondness for lotus seed buns).

So! It occurred to me that maybe the best way for me to answer this question would be to put these guys in a situation. And now, at long last, we have...Suki getting really turned on by Sokka cooking... 😏

Suki stepped off the back porch of the house, perched the steamer basket full of rice on her cocked hip, and bit her lip. Framed beautifully in her field of view, amidst a glorious backdrop of lush green foliage and the island’s tumbling, sparkling brook, was Sokka, standing over the makeshift grill he’d thrown together from a large cast iron pot and some wire mesh he’d gotten off one of the fishing boats. The air was fragrant with the savory sweet aroma of seared meat, Sokka expertly working the grill in a calculated dance between flame, timing, and seasoning. And Suki’s mouth was watering. 

“Hey there, grill master,” she crooned as she approached, abandoning the rice on the table that housed Sokka’s setup. She ran one hand over his shoulder, down his back, then lower still so she could squeeze a generous handful of ass cheek. 

He yelped before glancing at her out of the corner of his eye, one brow quirked in amusement. “Hungry?”

“Starved,” she said, sidling closer and pressing up against him from behind. Her hands quickly found his hip bones and traced the muscle there before teasing lower by just a few millimeters, and Sokka nearly dropped his tongs. 

“You know Mrs. Kotoji can see us from here…”

Suki turned her head towards her next door neighbor’s house just in time to see the shutters slam shut on one of the windows. “Nothing scandalous for her to see here,” she countered breezily. Then she found the slit in the side of Sokka’s tunic and traced her fingers down his thigh.

“Keep doin’ that and there might be,” he grunted, and Suki chuckled, dropping her forehead between Sokka’s shoulder blades as she laughed. 

“Listen…” she said coyly. With her head still resting against Sokka’s spine, she drew her hands slowly around his hips and up his flanks. “I know you’re still cooking, but once you’re done, you think you could…scandalize me a bit before we eat?”

Something clattered loudly while Sokka fumbled around with the grill, and then suddenly he was whirling around, gripping Suki’s waist and tugging her close. “Tui and La, woman… I will scandalize you so much, you’ll be reading about it in Ba Sing Se next year. In those scandal sheet things. That they circulate in the Upper Ring. Whatever, it made sense in my—” And he cut himself off by closing the distance between his mouth and hers. 

Suki threw her arms around his shoulders, laughing into him as he penguin-stepped them back towards the house. When they collided with one of the porch posts, Sokka used the opportunity to deepen the kiss, slotting one thigh between hers, creating delicious friction for them both. Suki moaned.

“So, you like the way I handle my meat, huh?” Sokka teased, breathy against her lips.

“Oh yeah,” Suki rasped, delighted, sneaking her eager hands back around to Sokka’s backside. “And now it’s my turn.”

i’m gonna reel off some (1 or 2 all in all) academic hcs to do with sam winchester bc im literally in my academic weapon (victim) era rn so yars #academia

anyways i feel like the two of u would study separately most times bc when together u guys either make out, have sex, talk, laugh and eat and nothing studying wise actually happens and there’s definitely been times when a piece of work one or the other has got torn because it was either laid on or stood on and there was a lot of movement during.

but the rare occasions you guys do study together he quizzes you on whatever u need quizzing on and he ends up asking how’s that professor bc he promised something to that prof but ur like “stfu sidetracking” and he kisses u every time you get something right. also lowk believe he’d do the classic “if u get something wrong u hv to strip n vice versa” (obvs if ur comfortable with that!!) but yeah it’s funny bc sometimes you or him might get something very obvious wrong and you guys js laugh abt it so yeah.

yeah no you guys need to study separately because NOTHING would get done if the aim is to actually learn and revise what you wrote down during your lectures. LMAO yeah your books and assignments were not safe if you guys were studying on the already small bed and sam so happened wanted to kiss your cheek but then you turned your head and caught his lips with yours and it devolved into a makeout session without any clothes on... oops!

but yes on the rare occasions that you do actually study together, he's very helpful with revisions but does get sidetracked and you have to snap your fingers at him with a small laugh to stop asking you questions that aren't on the flashcards lol. UGH yes to the trope of reward or strip while studying and it becomes a little game for the two of you but then sometimes it ends up with both of your clothes off and studying doesn't resume for the rest of the night >:) but also sam is so silly and would try and get something wrong so he can get out of his shirt and let you stare at him (he won't admit it but he loves it when you get flustered at the sight of him)

no because i love loverboy/lovesick sammy so much it actually hurts me to my core LOL and yes i could see sam eloping with his partner and living out the dream of getting married where anakin and padme did (i wholeheartedly agree with that headcanon of him liking star wars because hes a NERD but my nerd <3) and he dreams of having a family with you but if you don't want kids he respects that but if you guys do have kids and you're smaller than him it would be a harder birth since he's a giant and his kids would get those genes as well LMAO

My personal headcanon is that after that devilgram, he realized he actually enjoyed the genre a lot and secretly started to listen to more and more rock. So now whenever the brothers go out for karaoke and he accidentally had one to many horns of Demonus, he exclusively sings his heart out to rock songs. He knows all of the lyrics by heart too and he's putting on the performance of a lifetime every single time, but the others know better than to record any of this, so unfortunately you had to be there to experience the full glory of it :(

That's also part of the reason he doesn't want to sing in front of Diavolo. Can't let anyone know that the Avatar of Pride listens to anything but the most exquiste classical music

lmao so it's largely known that hmlyd was meant to be the epilogue of a much larger story (as was the bonus chpt from gold in the air of summer), and bc of that there's a lot of details that didn't make it in, including: izumi <3

the story actually largely revolved around her as like this big 5+1 pining/getting together fic (i still have scenes that i want to spruce up and post at some point), but...i quickly realized that i was never going to finish the thing, especially when what i really wanted to write was the hair braiding scene lol

it didn't take much for me to rework the fic to pull her out...but you may be able to tell that the following line was one of the spots where she was originally mentioned:

He hadn’t been expecting to see Sokka again so soon, after only briefly crossing paths earlier at the beginning of the tour. Enlisted in helping one of the schoolteachers transport her students, Sokka couldn’t do much talking and was really only able to give Zuko a quick wave as he passed by, too busy being deep in an animated conversation with a captivated five-year-old in his arms.

(i am sad tho that i couldn't include the tiny bit of a scene where zuko didn't mind the cold but izumi was decidedly Unsure about it until sokka convinced her it was fun to play in the snow lol)
