THREE: Do you have kids? No and getting closer to 90% of not wanting any and if then probably adopted.

FIVE: What sports have you played/do you play? When I was 10, I tried to join a gymnastics class. At the very first lesson the teacher pulled me aside and told me I wasn't good enough to join because my body wasn't made for it (aka not bendy enough). Yeah. That motivated me a LOT. Hates PE always though. Why fucking grade that? Only now in my twenties do i feel like sports can be fun. I'm still not good at any though.

Curious about your issues with the show!! I have my own ofc but always interested In more opinions

spoilers for like. all of the show el oh el

its hard for me to like. properly articulate on the fly but i think its primarily 1. a show that is genuinely trying to build a complicated structure out of the rusted metal and twigs that makes up LoL lore that gets overhauled every like, four years, so often times it feels like a character in arcane will get hard shafted out of a natural arc so they end up where they "should be" in accordance to their league counterpart.

strongest example i have off the dome is violet, where i think in act 1 of arcane shes a really intriguing and well crafted character whos sympathetic and has goals and values you can follow. and then they shunt her off to prison during the time skip and when she comes out shes like. everything she does from that point on just feels Tilted it feels like they gutted out all the parts that would have gotten me from A to Z wrt her going from scrappy kid in the lanes whos like. direct causes of terror and unhappiness in life were from enforcer. to a bitch who joins the enforcers. and its not that i dont think that turnaround is possible, i just dont think they articulated it well with such a truncated amount of episodes split between so many subplots

and then my main Thing 2. uuuh. this is more of like my own issues with this kind of story telling in general rather than an arcane specific issue that i will codify as "liberal progressives attempt to Both Sides the issue of apartheid in their magic story." the creators of the show emphasized that they wanted each character to be morally grey, differnt shades to them and the motivations contextualizing their actions. which is like, fair enough thats just good character writing but i dont think theyre particularly. great at that. especially when trying to marry it to my earlier point about how certain characters essentially have to invert to become their league analogs in some sense. also someone like ekko? not grey. hes just right? he doesnt fuck with enforcers and he doesnt fuck with the kingpin flooding the lanes with shimmer, he just wants to help the people suffering the most. stand up dude.

theres a lot of different levels to which this clashing between intent and execution falls flat for me in arcane but the one ill get into now is silco and vander. from an objective view its a classic story of two close brothers in arms driven apart by ideology/circumstance, weve seen it with professor xavier and magneto, it also reminded me of tchalla and killmonger although they dont have the childhood friends aspect going for them. but the point is its not like a unique idea. two people want to change the world for the better, one of them starts killing civilians about it, the first guy is like hey! maybe dont do that! epic fall out ensues.

and the story is cognizant of the fact that silco IS an antagonist: not just in the sense that he is opposing our protagonists goals, he sold out the children to the enforcers in the first act, he released shimmer onto zaun and keeps a stranglehold on the city with his circle of chem barons like he fucking sucks. and the whole time im watching im noting how his methods to "free zaun" are like, THE thing destroying it. the streets are rampant with nameless mutated homeless people hooked on shimmer he is directly responsible for. and i was kind of waiting for like. a shift within his circle. if that makes sense. obviously people like violet and ekko and caitlyn dont like him but they never did they dont have to be convinced, but to have someone who initially put all their trust into him as the guy to bring zaun into glory and then slowly have to reckon with the fact theyve propped up a mad man who has prioritized power in himself over the initial goal of liberating the city would have whipped ass.

and then it just didnt happen. theres this fascinating thing going on with silco where hes talking mad shit about the likes of vander, oh hes too softhearted, he will never do what it takes to truly ensure the safety and freedom of the lanes bc he cares too much about his damn babies. and then silco finds himself as caretaker of one of those babies. the show meticulously shows me how he cares for her, he softens for her, he lets her tinker in her silly cave all day and blow up cops with harley quinn bombs. so we have three main things to keep in mind with silco:

his primary stated goal is to free zaun from piltovers repressive rule.

his shimmer production is one of if not The thing actively destroying the lanes

he now has Baby, whos safety has become a growing priority for him.

this culminating in the finale where he is presented with the opportunity to hand her over to the authorities in exchange for zauns independence. now THIS could have been a really interesting internal dilemma for him. he is now faced with the exact choice that led vander to becoming "weak" in his eyes. whats one girls life in exchange for his dream finally becoming a reality. but its also an impossible thing to ask because thats his Daughter. so now hes risking scrutiny from his underlings for being wishy washy. ooh intrigue mystery. youd really need some time to steep on his agonies and what hes really willing to prioritizeat this point in his life

and then none of that happens bc hes immediately kidnapped and shot and never has to seriously consider it. he never has to SACRIFICE he always just. has everything he wants. forever. until he dies. powerful chem baron running the show with his army of teen supersoldiers.

another route i considered them being able to do is something more focused on him and sevika. she left vander to join his cause specifically bc she thought vander was weak. as his right hand, she would do anything for silco, including literally giving up her fucking arm when she saved him from the blast in act one. timeskip, now we see she has a fun new mech arm powered by silcos own shimmer, which we are shown the side effects of time and time again. i thought this was leaning into a metaphor about how her emotional dependence on him and his cause was being represented by a chemical dependence on shimmer. like its destroying her physically and mentally but she NEEDS it to work out to know it wasnt all for nothing so shell put up with whatever sketchy bullshit hes got going on, the ends justify the means. and we get like six detailed shots of shimmer being pumped directly into her body i thought for sure they were gonna be like oh this is fucking killing her, like a compound v situation

but shes like. fine. theres no side effects besides a cool scar. shes chilling.

i also thought her antagonistic dynamic with jinx was going somewhere. like if sevika noticed that silco was putting her above what needed to be done for the sake of liberating zaun, and noticing how it mirrored how vander became "weak" and getting that much more pissed about playing second fiddle to a 17 year old. like imagine you get that whole scene where sevika makes it look like shes gonna execute silco, then murders the chem baron who asked her to do it because she trusts him THAT much, then later she hears about jayce's offer to silco and sees him GENUINELY considering leaving the offer on the table JUST for jinx. sorry if i was her id snap. id go crazy id start a coup.

so basically what im saying is. lotta different options to make the characters richer and more grey as they struggle with what they really care about. but the story just kind of shuffles past them and then insists that the bonds were there the whole time you guys jinx and sevika are totally besties now shes a symbol of zaun <3

her design (LITERALLY WINGS IM CRYING) and character lore are so cool, and so sad; she deserves a whole-ass event where we can explore her trauma and war experience and sense of duty please; or a hangout!!!! smth that doesnt evolve around too much ei (the jokes ab her being a fangirl are getting old) or itto. let her live please.

in general more yokai things would be fun! she couldve easily fit in a main role in the yokai-kids-make-a-festival event... i feel like her and chizuru (the tsukumogami girl who witnessed tbe Mikawa Flower Festivals) could have connected a lot...

also OMG IMAGINE SARA AND KIRARA THAT WOULD BE SO COOL???? like theyre both determined ab their job and duty but in like different ways, and Kiraras attitude and cuirosity could be healing for her

thoughts on Tuvok’s temporary blindness? We feeling angsty in the club tonight B)

I have no angsty thoughts on his blindness itself per say [I think he'd be able to adapt well and without a lot of turmoil because he is so disciplined, they're in an emergency situation, and from the way he reacted to Kes boiling his blood and nearly killing him with "This just shows I need to teach you even more. Same time next week?" where a Human, and perhaps even another Vulcan, might be more wary of leaping right back into that situation. He's lowkey a bit too curious for his own good when it comes to the mind but that's beside the current point.] HOWEVER I do think that since he got...exploded?? There was an explosion?? [I don't regularly watch Year of Hell, I know everyone loves it and I don't dislike it but it's not my scene] He and Seven were working on some kind of torpedo that got detonated and he saved Seven is how I remember it. Anyway since all that happened I do wish we'd gotten some visible facial scarring/burns. I know the Doc can heal those things and it probably isn't worth it from a real life 'this is a show' perspective but I like the idea of resources running lower and so becoming injured becomes more and more of an actual risk to productivity and lifelong consequence. So I drew a Tuvok with more facial scarring/burns from that torpedo & also with his hair grown out a bit more since he's not buzzing it regularly [he still shaves though, canonically]. Seven feeling guilty in the background is another potential source of angst because I imagine Tuvok's skin would feel uncomfortable...itching, pain, etc and maybe Seven helps with putting ointment on the afflicted areas? Oh!! Actually, Tuvok seems like someone who doesn't like asking for any help and who values his independence/[to some extent] separation from the rest of the crew highly. I can imagine him struggling with being so suddenly and traumatically rendered blind [explosion as opposed to slowly losing sight] and needing to rely so heavily on someone else because of their situation [if the ship's layout weren't so dangerous and changing all the time I imagine he could get around with a mobility aid or through memory instead of relying on Seven to guide him] I can imagine a certain amount of angst coming through Tuvok just fighting to accept that he does need help and that that's ok! That might be an interesting angle actually, especially since he's going through this with Seven who we know values efficiency and has said that Borgs who are damaged in any way are killed and used for parts. How does this affect them both?

who is this robo-ky please tell me about them i have no clue where they’re from but god they’re a Mood (especially the crawling on the ground Like That)

robo-ky is a character from the guilty gear series! i haven't checked them out in a bit so i can't remember when he first appeared but i'm pretty sure it was pretty early on in the series. the gist is that he's a series of robots (though later on there's only one robo-ky left i think) based on another character, ky kiske (hence robo-KY), who is the king of illyria i think if i remember correctly and like a super skilled swordsman so they send robo-kys to copy his and other characters' moves but they all kinda suck at it. if you wanna see him in action mmmm. there's a story mode in i believe XRD where he goes on a mission with another character who's named Venom, but he has bits and pieces of dialogue in the earlier games, as well as his story mode

Tbh Dana kind of reminds me of Daisy from the great gatsby, If that makes any sense?? I just get strong vibes of immaturity and not really understanding/not caring about the consequences of what she does from her at times.

okay i apologise in forward but you've reawakened my daisy enjoyer status from highschool fjdhsjkfhdskj i see the comparison and agree that there's some similarities especially when it comes to the waif like immaturity, but I have personally always read Daisy in actuality as someone who, for all that she sincerely grieves what she lost with Gatsby, knows that ultimately that despite any unhappiness with Tom, she was never going to abandon the place she's accepted.

To me that's always what her little line about her daughter ("I hope she'll be a fool—that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.") was about. It doesn't matter how hard Daisy cries over Gatsby's shirts, how conflicted she feels, how much she still cares for him, ultimately she's accepted her place within the world and ultimately she wasn't ever going to abandon that.

There's a level of immaturity - as well as heartache - in never really communicating this to Gatsby (though considering he's wooing a visage of a woman long changed and with a version of himself that is itself constructed, who even knows how successful she would've been), but I interpret Daisy's choice as hinging upon the fact she intimately understood the ultimate consequence of her actions, of abandoning her husband.

Dana on the other hand seems utterly unable/unwilling to interogate the nature of her own actions for what they are. She sincerely seems to believe she dislikes active conflict, and this extends into lying to herself about just how far she goes to hurt Miguel over slights (hanging out with the guy that Miguel confided in her drugged him with an incurable addiction, purely because she's upset he hasn't been home enough). Dana seems to me more like someone who follows the whim of her own desires/impulses without consideration for the harm she stands to inflict upon on others. The way she speaks in the aftermath of cheating conversation to Gabriel is also just. bizarrely self-centered when it doesn't verge on martyrdom (I hate conflict, I just want people to be happy, hate me FOREVER if you need to but don't throw away your relationship with miguel).

So, my friend decided to watch "The Ultimate Enemy" with me in school (we didn't watch it "fully" but still, holly sh-)

Anyways, we got to that scene where Maddie asks "where's our boy?!" And my friend said "i just wanna warn you, this will be the cringiest dialog in the episode" and then unpaused it

I hoped that they were just exaggerating, but in the moment Dan said "I AM your boy" i just pushed myself alway in disappointment and they immediatelly pulled me back screaming "I TOLD YOU!!-"

scene of all time. after all the long aerial shots we get the medium shot w the two of them in profile, w the camera far enough back that we see how they’re in this almost-embrace while the knife is positioned visually bw them:

(side note. personally obsessed w how their arms grasping each other run sorta parallel to the angle of the knife, like their arms—gripped in a bitter, angry echo of their former affection for each other—visually underline the knife, this object that has shattered the distant / passive aggressive politeness with which they treated each other thus far. their anger is made that much worse by the love they used to have. I’m going to eat drywall)

I didn’t remember this, but they actually use a dutch angle twice in the scene: first is when rhaenyra fully registers the knife in alicent’s hand (or at least that’s how I read it) they do a rack focus shot from rhaenyra’s face to the knife:

which imo is not quite as jarring bc it’s a lil further back, rhaenyra is still generally positioned on the left side of the screen, and alicent’s hand—which, for now, visually takes her place as the figure opposite rhaenyra—is still on the right, which continues into the next (VERY ICONIC) shot:

we get the back and forth close-ups, rhaenyra left and alicent right, until this one???? until “now they see you as you are,” when we have the camera tilted at a slight angle again, and rhaenyra closer to the center with alicent on her left (also noticing now how crowded rhaenyra is in the frame, more boxed in by the back of alicent’s head and her hand and the knife than the previous similar shot):

I was always taught it was a rule™ to keep your actors on the same sides of the frame throughout a scene, even thru back-and-forth close ups, so !!! I’m just!! THINKING!!! and thinking extra hard bc they actually DO put rhaenyra FULLY on the left and alicent fully on the right for like a SPLIT second…

…before they switch back (sorry to olivia. no matter how many screenshots I took she always looked like this lmao) for the last close-up:

like. idk idk idk. I get the angled shot for the rack focus of the knife, bc that’s definitely like. A Moment. this is not just their long-held anger coming to a head, there is a fucking KNIFE and alicent has it pointed directly in her face

and yeah the second dutch angle doesn’t have to inherently mean anything but it just feels like so much of this scene is uhhhhhhh pretty fucking deliberate, and that one split-second when they have rhaenyra & alicent fully swap spots before alicent lunges will NOT leave me alone !!!

Years back when I was into Ace Attorney the first time, I made an OC like, fancast of my own defense attorney, rival, assistant, etc… but I never wrote anything down about them and lost my sketches, so all I remember now is the prosecutor who I had ended up being more invested in anyway.
