TW: rant, reality shifting mention, suicide mention, I got angry man

People who say "fiction doesn't impact reality" or "people are so dumb, they think fictional tropes will hurt them in real life" have clearly never met a psychotic person before.

One time I stayed up well-past two AM panicking and shaking because I was afraid that everything I put Mike through was real and I actually made a real life person get tortured and actually made a real life person go through all those horrors.

I also one time got so into a paranoid episode that I thought I was being hunted down literally just by someone's freaky design that they didn't put a TW on.

Another time, I was in a fandom with an extremely popular comship and at one point the line between real from fake for me was so blurred that I was /srs going to kill myself because someone was mean to me about a ship and I couldn't distinguish in the moment that the ship wasn't a mockery of my suffering, and I'm like seventy-five percent serious when I mean I felt like that ship was personally attacking me because people romanticised the abuse so hard.

And another time I was so obsessed with a fictional character (it's Mike, I'm referring to Mike again) and so hateful of my "bad" personality that I wanted to reality shift (or, "consciousness" shift? Because I was a consciousness theory shifter?) and rewrite my personality to be that character because I hated my own personality so much, to the point my fantasies were consumed with being a reincarnation of the character and I drove myself mad before I got proper support/treatment.

All of this was while I was (mostly to fully) medicated, by the way. Schizoaffective doesn't fully go away, even if you're treated.

Considering the nature of reality-shifters, shipping wars, violent rejection of certain headcanons, the brutal debates over who's "the real character", and other groups I don't wanna invoke the wrath of, I'm like ninety-nine percent certain that we just can't separate real from fake.

And given the fact that I developed homicidal tendencies when I was in sixth grade simply because I got too invested in murderous characters while psychotic, I can only imagine how harmful the belief of "fiction doesn't impact reality" is towards people who literally cannot tell real from fake. You can't tell me you support people of all mental health backgrounds and then proceed to reblog a "your favorite character of all time would hate you if you don't xyz", or "people who don't understand fiction isn't real are dumb and–" what have you."

Do you realise how insensitive you are if you think that survivors of psychosis not being able to tell real from fake makes them "dumb" or "chronically online" or what have you? Sorry that you got the privilege of having a brain that isn't trying to sabotage you, at all times, and WILL sabotage you if you don't take tiny capsules full of chemicals EVERY DAY or so help you god.

I'd honestly rather have to tolerate someone who thinks all psychotic people are like, murderers or something than someone who believes "fiction doesn't impact reality". What do you do when someone is actually delusional, huh? Do you suddenly change your mind about "real from fake is common sense"? Do you shame the delusional person and make them worse, and then victimise yourself when they perceive you as a threat? Do you enable their delusions because they seem pretty to you in the moment (or you're just unqualified to all roses in a rosebush) and then when they suddenly do something gross you don't wanna play with them anymore? Do you call them stupid? Do you fetishise them? Hm?

And don't say none of these. Considered I've been around people like this while psychotic, I know exactly who would ruin me if I was psychotic and who would save my life.

"Fiction doesn't impact reality" is so stupid and probably hypocritical considering most people who I've met that say this's entire lives revolve around fiction. Shut up, and go talk to a psych teacher because they probably have a library of information you don't know.

my hometown is completely gone from what pictures i can find of it, i have not heard from my family (including aunts, uncles, parents, one sibling, and a grandparent), and the infrastructure in the mountain communities is wiped out. i cannot stress how catastrophic this is, or how difficult it will be for these communities to build back. i am angry, and scared, and heartbroken by everything that's happened.

Y'know, I started to type out a massive post about how sad and frustrating it is that every USAmerican southern character in anything is presented as ignorant and uneducated and "dumb" and even hateful, how there are people here with degrees and careers and incredibly complex skills that took years to develop and learn, and then I realized, fuck that-- yeah, there are a lot of people with no or little education down here. We're fucking poor. A lot of us just can't afford college. A lot of us have to get jobs instead to support our families. Some people dropped out of high school to do that. And you know what? They're still human beings who deserve to be represented as whole, real, functional people and not flat archetypes.

Like yeah, I could talk about all the talented and smart people who came from down here, but the "simple," the disabled, the uneducated down here don't deserve the way the media depicts them, either! Because the bulk of them are good people who just got dealt a bad hand because we are so pathetically poor down here. And yeah, that includes the addicts. We have a lot of addicts down here. And that isn't our fault, either. when you're dealt the worst possible hand and no one wants to help you, everyone regards you as being trash, you're gonna cope however you can.

Everyone wants to write us off and present us in media as pretty much just. nothing people, but there are many, many people here of all walks of life who deserve respect and who need help that they aren't getting BECAUSE nobody shows us any fucking respect, and the way the media depicts us consistently does constant, DEEP damage to the way the rest of the country views us. It isn't fucking fair and it isn't fucking okay.

Hate Mail

Stan had gotten used to reading and replying to piles of mail in a day, slowed by carefully deciphering the messy crayon so he could give the best response. It would usually take him several minutes to think of the perfect doodle to slip in with it. Sometimes he would scrap it several times before he was happy with the result.

His last letter was from a little girl from California asking if it could rain soda she poured it into the ocean. He’d written a polite answer explaining that it would be bad for the sea animals, and a simple experiment she could do with evaporation instead. After a bit of thought he drew Dr. Pine sitting a a table chatting with a sea turtle in purple crayon at the bottom. He was almost glad he had not improved his drawing skills since he was twelve. 

The next letter shocked him a bit. He almost set it aside when he saw it, thinking a bill had been slipped with the fan letters. Yet there on the front, in almost obnoxious cursive, was the typical address to Dr. Pine. There was no return address.

Another odd thing about the letter was just how carefully it had been put together. The wording straight and the envelope closed seemingly perfectly. Yet the bottom corner was scrunched like the writer had been holding it like their life depended on it. Stan opened the letter, to his surprise there was two. 

The first was like any letter from a kid, slightly messy handwriting gushing about their favorite part of the last episode. The ‘Tate Mcgucket’ seemed to really enjoy them discussing the lake’s food web and listed a few of his favorite fish. 

The second letter however was not as kind. It listed 12 inaccuracies in the episode. Each going in lengthy detail. He could only skim it as the text shrunk to save room. The explanations were familiar in a way. Kind of like how he tried to explain things, but laced with passive aggressive remarks. Hate mail was a thing he had gotten from angsty teenagers and upset parents on occasion, but this letter felt different. It was addressed by a ‘Mr. Mystery PhD, A real one unlike yours.’ He stared at the letter for several minutes unsure of what to do with it. 

He moved back to the first letter, replying to it like any other. Drawing a Dr. Pine riding a large bass. He quickly popped open a book for references, this kid seemed like the type to appreciate the effort. Then he looked back at the other letter. A bit of annoyance now when he remembered the letter had no return address. He pinned both to a the corkboard above his desk and moved on to replying to other letters.

He decided he was going to get his reply to Tate, not only because he was determined to reply to every letter, but also to spite this ‘Mr Mystery.’ He may be right that Stan is not a real doctor, but he was a man to stubborn for his own good

there are literally people posting on their Instagram stories about how terrible this is, when a week ago they were encouraging people not to vote. And guess what people didn’t fucking vote.
