I did think (wrongly, apparently!) you meant playoffs, which is across the board terrible officiating. You're right that I couldn't say who gets away with more in the regular season, but I do know that when it comes to injuries resulting from dirty hits, they don't get suspended enough in post-season for any team. I agree Matthews isn't an angel, but how many times does an opponent injure him and nothing comes from it? Nylander too, and like, look at how beat up Draisaitl and Ekblad get every single season. None of them play clean, but they all suffer from the lack of integrity in officiating as much as they benefit. You yourself said that in your post, so we agree there too, I just think it's oversimplifying a serious issue to chalk it all up to bias for specific stars on specific teams. I think the issue is wider than that, but maybe that wasn't your intention and I misunderstood.

i think it may be an oversimplification, but there are legitimate trends of nhl stars not receiving penalties that they should. i think the issue with auston is that he doesn't necessarily intend to injure? and he's been very open about that, he doesn't engage with fights he tells his locker room he doesn't like fighting etc, but he's absolutely a target for other teams. but he absolutely participates in undisciplined behavior (hooking slashing holding are his worst i've noticed) like they're going out of style

willy too. people know he's a threat so they go after him, and he i have noticed doesn't necessarily go for undisciplined penalties as much but he does hook and trip quite often and it doesn't get called as much as it should. probably about a third (if i had the time to go back and watch games i would but unfortunately a man has a busy schedule here for the next week, depending on what next week looks like i'll get back to you) of willy's penalties don't get called in the regular season

which, like i said in the last anon, it can absolutely be chalked up to the four officials just flat out not being able to pay attention to ten people all at once. and only refs can call penalties yadda yadda yadda, linespeople literally aren't allowed to blow the whistle for undisciplined penalties and they're only allowed to snitch after the whistle has been blown, but like. god damn there's no way they're not seeing that shit and just ignoring it.

and yeah you're right. it was especially egregious during the playoffs when aus took that suspected midbody (?) injury and it went uncalled. and i mean, aus doesn't get injured nearly as much as our d does, and i feel like that almost doesn't get called as much as it should to the same if not to a worse degree. how many times did mccabe bleed all over himself and the worst the opposition got was a two minute minor? how many times was calle out for 5+ games after getting charged and the opposition didn't get a call? how many times was Iily hit in the head and dragged off the ice and no one said anything?

i think if we're going to argue that there isn't a leafs bias there are other places to look. i think that you have a valid argument somewhere if you want to try and make one, but it isn't wrt the stars. it's wrt the d core

and like there is a much more obvious intent to injure (maybe not even injure? maybe subdue? but i'm gonna go with injure i personally think they're full of goons like you can't have evander kane and corey perry on your team without admitting that there is intent to injure there) with the oilers stars. they're a MUCH more physical team than the leafs are. the more recent stars the leafs have picked up (domi) and the ones they're developing (knies) are reffed fairly in my opinion, so it kind of evens out. but with the oilers, their physicality from what i've seen doesn't (necessarily). if i watched more than like 15 regular season oilers games a year i'd be able to give better specific commentary but unfortunately i am a bad oilers spectator

There's definitely some stuff to say about Nightwing: Knight Terrors in regards to how it treats the Batgirls as an afterthought and it feels like there's some sort of missing Batgirls tie-in to Knight Terrors...

But I will say this, I think Cloonrad writes a pretty damn good Dick Grayson.

Look, maybe it's because we've been stuck with Tom Taylor's writing for God knows how long, but it felt very refreshing.

Dick was cocky again, he had more of a personality here than he has had in his entire run.

Plus Scarecrow even tries to make a Nightwing butt joke and Dick is very clearly uncomfortable with it and tells him to shut the fuck up, lol.

Like damn, with a writer on Nightwing currently who has tried to defend that unfunny joke before, it's just nice to see it shot down.

So yeah, am I upset about the Batgirls getting a bit shafted here? Sure, but I do think that this is probably the best Nightwing content we're getting for a while.

Random Jason Hijinks I either wish would happen someday or find amusing to think about.

Rose and Jason break Eddie out of hell and steal his soul back from Neron. Jaime is dragged along by Rose because he and Eddie were “friends a few reboots ago”. Jason asked Roy who sent him Connor who is suffering™.

Pre-Red Hood Jason and Pre-Green Arrow Connor first meet up back when Jason was part of the All-Caste hunting a demon. It’s a one-shot adventure and the things you have to know are:  

a) this is before Jason’s growth spurt so he’s over a head shorter than Connor.

b) Connor isn’t a cape so excuse him for not understanding demons and fucking up hilariously a few times.

c) When Jason tries to kill the demon who is possessing the human, he and Connor fight about it. The fight ends when the demon explodes out of the person like the Pus of Man from Dark Souls 3.

d) Talia is the one who finds and picks up Jason from the adventure (Connor thinks she’s his mom and Jason just didn’t inherit the melanin) and is also the one who gives Connor contact information for Jason because she wants him to have some sort of friend.

e) They never actually learned the other’s name so anytime they’d hear about Red Hood or Green Arrow they literally don’t know it’s that guy they met as teenagers.

Jason decides to actually dust off his mystic training when Dick walks in and Jason gets hit with so many bad vibes he’s genuinely worried something is wrong with Dick.  

Jason: “Did they not fix the Brother Blood mind control thing fully? Did Raven miss something? Isn’t Dick friends with a million people? How have they all missed this????”

It ends with bringing Danny Chase back to life and the only person remotely happy about it is Jason and even that’s a stretch.

It has the unforeseen consequence of magical folk moving into the neighborhood because Gotham is a nightmare to live in normally, Magic Gotham is even worse and the only people who can survive are big hitters like Blood, Zatanna, and Ivy or small fries like the kitchen witch near Leslie’s. Welcome to the big leagues, Jason.

Jason keeps getting mistaken for Jason Blood and it is annoying. One day some demon hunters threw something at Jason and did anyone know Jason used to be in heaven because he sure didn’t and these angel wings are a fucking nightmare.

Rose busts a gut laughing because she somehow became friends with the least demon-y demon Eddie and Jason as an angel.

Jason, Ivy, Sideways, and Impulse (Impulse voice: “Why am I even here?”) vs the Madness Wavelength in Arkham.

Jason kills Joker and finds out that he cannot. Not as in “He doesn’t die” or “There will be a new one” but a secret third option, “The universe literally resets the day every time he’s killed.” Instead of being a tragedy, it becomes a comedy as killing Joker slowly becomes Jason’s go-to when shit goes wrong/killing him is good stress relief. Stephanie discovers what happens because she’s had to write the same essay nine times once. Instead of being horrified they (and then Helena, Tim, Duke, etc.) make killing Joker a gag. The only ones not allowed to kill the Joker are Dick and Bruce because then the universe decides it’s the bad timeline instead of just resetting again.

Tim: *drops his latte on a hot guy and then embarrasses himself in public trying to apologize and becomes a meme.*

Tim: I guess I have to kill Joker now.

Jason and Kory remeeting and wow it’s really awkward that we only got close because of a universe meddler and then you dipped and never contacted me again even though I was a hundred percent serious that you were one of my first friends and are very important to me.

Kory take mercy on me and just drop me like a bad memory don’t have us open a dialogue where we reconcile all of the bullshit that happened to us and the fact that we did genuinely get close at very low points in our lives and be willing to try and be friends again!

sometimes it's fun to hear abt how certain scams came down (at least when they have a happy ending and the people hurt get refunds or some other compensation) but man. there's always people who are gonna say "this was so obviously a scam and anyone who fell for it is just stupid" and i find that. upsetting ig? especially when the red flags are things you have to actively look for/be relatively well versed in certain topics to notice

like i watched a video breaking down the day before and how its scam went down and everyone in the comments is talking abt how stupid gamers are and only very little people are like "hey. most people don't read game news or follow every trailer and update about games, they just see one cool trailer and want to buy the game" and even then! people respond to it saying "well that's stupid, you shouldn't do that" like bro i don't think it's fair to expect people to research every product they're gonna buy 😭 online stores yes (as in, don't give your money to dubious sites who will steal your information or just take the money and run), but this was hosted on steam. read reviews maybe, but we're talking about pre-release wishlisting or first day purchases. obviously with the gift of hindsight this is very easy to mock, especially if you ARE the type of person who's involved in gaming news and thus knows what red flags to look for, but the vast majority of people aren't and it just feels unfair

ig that's the core of it?? it's unfair. like if someone gets away with a scam you shouldn't blame the people scammed, you should blame the scammer, who usually knows how to manipulate their words and promises all in order to get people to pay them, and hopefully get away with it through loopholes. by calling people stupid for getting manipulated, you only serve the manipulator and show other potential manipulators they can get away with it too if they just target the right people 🤷‍♂️ (which is shitty to do anyway, but if looking at it from a more selfish angle helps hammer it in - one day you could end up one of those right people. you are not immune to getting scammed)
