Your eyes began to sting with the tears trying to make their way down your cheeks. It was crazy how one name could send you down this spiral.

As you made your way to the bathroom you, you failed to realize a blonde following behind you. But, when you entered the bathroom you caught a glimpse of her in the mirror standing a few feet behind you. “Kate,” you said after turning around to meet her blue eyes, the ones you had originally fell in love with. “I didn’t know you got drafted, congrats,” you crossed your arms over your body, suddenly aware of how exposing it was.

“I—uh—I didn’t know you moved here,” her hand reached to the back of her neck, “I wasn’t even sure it was you who I was following.”

“So, why’d you follow me?” you asked, pushing your hip against the sink.

“I don’t know. I just,” she paused trying to find the right words, “I fucked up, Y/N.”

“I know,” you nodded your head biting your lip trying to keep your voice stable. Finally after all these months you were hearing what thought you wanted to hear, but now that you had it, you weren’t sure if this is really what you wanted. Closure, that is, because it means it would all be over.

“I said really shitty things to you—,” she was cut off by someone entering into the bathroom and silently apologizing for interrupting, “Do you wanna go somewhere else?”

“We can go outside,” you told her as you pulled your phone out sending a quick text to your friends. You then followed her through the crowds until you were outside in the warm atmosphere of Las Vegas.

“I shouldn’t have said those things,” you noticed the way she still played with her fingers out of nervousness, “They weren’t true. You didn’t add stress to my life, like you were the only thing that didn’t give me stress. I just took all of my anxiety out on you and I’m so sorry,” she finished.

You stood quiet trying to figure out what words to say. You had been avoiding eye contact practically the whole time she was talking, just trying to soak in the sound of her voice.

“You probably hate me,” she ran her hand through her long blonde hair.

“I don’t hate you,” you shook your head finally meeting her gaze, “Trust me, I want to hate you. But I can’t,” you bit the bottom of your lip trying to keep it from going into a frown and allowing the tears to spill out, “and th—that really fucking sucks. Because you ruined my self image. I believed all those things you said,” you felt a tear fall down your cheek and immediately wiped it away. “I’ve spent months trying to rebuild myself from the way you left me.”

“I’m so sorry Y/N, and I will be for the rest of my life,” she stepped closer to you, but you still kept your arms around you almost as if they acted as a barrier.

“Did you really believe all those things you said to me?” your voice broke as the tears clouded your eyes and stared to stream down your cheeks. She immediately brought you into her grasp, her hand racking through your hair.

“No, no,” she shook her head before lying her chin on top of your head. You stood there crying into the shirt of the girl who had made you hate yourself and think that you were the problem in everything. “None of what I said was true. I was just scared shitless and I took it out on you. I should’ve never done that baby,” the familiar nick name slips out of her lips, and it sounds so right on her tongue that it takes all your strength to push away from her and not melt into her.

“You can’t call me that,” you stood back, wiping the tears from under your eyes, the mascara on the sides of your fingers.

Kate nodded her head, “Do you,” she started, “Do you think we will ever get back together?” she asked and you could hear the vulnerability in her voice.

“Not right now,” you shook your head, “I’m not saying never, but right now. No, I think I still need time.”

“I’ll wait,” she whispered. As you went to respond your friends came out of the club and stared at the two of you.

“Ok,” you nodded before walking over to them and waving a small bye to her before walking off.

Honestly it felt like a weight had been taken off your chest. You weren’t being weighed down by the blonde anymore.

And you were honest about maybe trying again in the future. You would just have to see a difference in her for it to happen.

Summary: Y/N, has dated the very popular Oikawa Toru for a while, through him becoming friends with his group. However, little do they know about a certain stoic ace’s feelings for his best friend’s s/o. When Oikawa screws up big time, will Iwaizumi’s true feelings finally show? And what will Y/N do when everything goes down?

Warnings: Cheating, cursing, breakups, basically Oikawa x Reader angst turned into Iwaizumi x Reader fluff.

“I’d love that,” they replied, a genuine smile appearing on their lips as they played with the sleeve of their shirt. I nodded and immediately went to get everything from the kitchen, setting up the movie in the living room and calling (y/n) over, handing them a blanket as they sat down on the couch. I stood there without knowing what to do before they looked at me and patted the spot next to them, moving the blanket so I could sit. Without thinking about it twice I sat down beside them; I was crazy for them, more than I cared to admit, so it was enough to see their eyes sparkle happily at me to get me to do whatever they wanted. We watched the movie and ate our ice cream without mentioning Oikawa again, I turned off my phone knowing he would probably call me like he always did, and (y/n) blocked his number so halfway through the movie the bad had faded away and it was just us having fun. However, they must have gotten tired from the crying and running because they fell asleep midway, their head ending up resting on my shoulder.

I was glad they were asleep so they wouldn’t be able to see me smiling like an idiot, I was surprised enough to see they still liked hanging out with me despite what my best friend did and didn’t want to give them a reason to think we shouldn’t see each other anymore. I figured they could use the rest, so I lowered the volume of the tv and leaned my head on theirs, enjoying their company and relaxing to the point I nodded off as well. What felt like a second later I opened my eyes to the sound of (y/n)’s phone ringing and was greeted by an unfamiliar sensation. Somehow in our sleep we had ended up cuddling, their head resting on my chest and my arms around them. It was too late to get out of it now though, they had woken up and probably realized the same thing from the way they were blushing while picking up the phone. They apologized to their transfer mom and told them they’d go home right away, and once I looked at the tv screen for the first time since waking up I realized it must be quite late since the movie was over.

“Uh, I should get going,” they said while standing up and fixing their clothes, their face still shinning with a hint of red, “thank you for everything though, really. I would still be a mess if it weren’t for you.” It was my turn to feel flustered as I nervously rubbed my neck before replying, “no problem, I’m glad I could be of service.” They giggled and my heart fluttered as I stood up, grabbing my coat from the hanger by the door, earning a confused glance from (y/n). “What? Did you really think I was going to let you go home by yourself at this hour?” I explained as they smiled and picked up their backpack, walking over to the door and following me outside.

The trip back to their house was about twenty minutes, the first ten by bus and the second ten walking, so although it was easy for us to stay quiet on the bus without being awkward thanks to the noisy engine, that was no longer the case once it was just us walking through empty, moonlit suburban streets. I didn’t know what to say, and I could tell (y/n) was feeling the same way. “I hope that what happened with Oikawa doesn’t ruin our friendship,” (y/n) said, their eyes lost somewhere among the stars.

Your POV

You held your breath as you waited for the boy’s response; you meant it, you loved hanging out with them, but now that Oikawa and you were clearly over you were afraid things would change for the worst. You cared for all of them, especially for Iwaizumi, and didn’t want his friend screwing up to be the end of that as well. “Right, friendship,” he mumbled, his voice disappointed, causing you to look at him to try and figure out what that was about to which the boy shook his head slightly and quickly added louder, “why would it ruin it?”

“I don’t know, I care about you Iwaizumi, regardless of what happened with Oikawa, so I know I’d miss you if we stopped hanging out,” you confessed, blushing at the sight of his cheered up smile. ‘What was up with me? I just broke up with his best friend, and yes, I always found Iwaizumi to be attractive physically and personality-wise, but he was so different from Toru I never thought anything would happen between us, why would someone like him like me?’ you thought to yourself as you mentally kicked your racing thoughts. “Nah, don’t be stupid, I care about you, and I bet the others two do too, so there’s no way in hell you’re getting rid of us,” he joked, making you chuckle, he had always been great at making you feel better. “Except for Shittykawa, I already got rid of him,” you said crossing my arms and huffing comically, trying to lighten the mood, as he smiled and nodded in return.

“Yeah, that sounds about right,” he chuckled and looked down at his feet falling silent before quietly adding, “you know you deserve someone better than him, right?” It was a weird question, after all at first it seemed like Oikawa was the best there was, everyone was after him. You sighed and then replied unconvincingly, “do I? I mean, I know I don’t want someone who cheats on me and in hindsight isn’t as self-obsessed, but according to everyone, he’s all that so,” now you were the one who fell silent, looking to the side to see Iwa frowning. “Oh, trust me, there are better people than Oikawa. I’ll be honest, I’ve always thought of his fangirls as stupid for being blinded by the spotlight, but it kind of serves them right. With you though, you weren’t blinded by anything and instead chose to see the good in him, you’re special. So since you don’t really care about the sparkle, I just think you need someone who… who’s everything he’s not.” You stuffed my hands into your hoodie’s pocket and sighed, thinking about what he said you realized that he was right.

“Wow, that actually makes a lot of sense,” you smiled at the boy, making him do a double-take as his eyes went slightly wide. “It does?” he asked, rubbing his neck and looking away as he moved closer beside you to let a car pass by, now that you two were walking closer to each other you could definitely tell he was blushing. What was this all about? Maybe he liked you, but the question that was making your mind race was, did you like him? After all, he was everything Oikawa was not, careful, quiet, in the shadows instead of the spotlight, but with a huge heart once you got to know him. “Yup, but it kinda sounds like I should look for someone like you after what you described,” you said, biting your lip out of the nerves, were you really risking everything because of a hunch? Instead of replying immediately, Iwaizumi stopped in his tracks, looking at the floor and kicking the ground. You stopped and turned to face him, walking up to him and trying to meet his gaze with your eyes.

“I feel awful,” he said, his face as redder than you had ever seen it, your heart feeling more crushed than before; of course, you’re wrong, he’s Oikawa’s best friend, why would he jeopardize that or catch feelings for his best friend’s ex? “I- I’m sorry just forget what I said, I should hurry home,” you spun around, ready to start jogging again when you felt his hand grab my wrist gently but firmly before mumbling, “no, wait!” turning you around to face him. “It’s not that. I feel awful because, although Oikawa’s my best friend, ever since I saw you two together, I couldn’t shake the feeling that you should be with me instead. Yeah, I’m everything he’s not, so that’s why I thought I should just forget it, because I never thought you’d be into that, especially after being with Toru. So, before you go, I just… I had to say that, if you were with me, I promise I’d treat you like you deserve.”

“Do you… do you really mean all that?” you asked, your face pretty much burning off as you looked into the brunette’s eyes, only then realizing he was still holding onto you but was now holding your hand. “Yeah, I mean,” he looked away, not letting go, “you’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met. You’re so smart, chill, funny, kind, and beyond beautiful, and I was dying inside whenever I saw Oikawa kiss you because I wanted to be him so bad but I-”

You squeezed Iwa’s hand, taking a step forward almost involuntarily as he did the same, his face still showing the concern that had appeared as he rambled but now only inches apart from yours. “I know this may be weird, but I like you too. I just never realized how much until all of this went down and suddenly, I wasn’t absorbed by keeping Oikawa happy and I finally saw you, still there,” you replied, smiling at the spiker whose worry melted away into a sweet smile, the kind that you had only seen momentarily before, in moments where it was just the two of you and you forgot about everything else. He took a deep breath, letting go of your hand and opting to rest his against your cheek instead before whispering; “I’m crazy for you, loser.” You both laughed softly, and at that moment it felt as though you were the only two people in the world, surrounded by nothing other than the night sky and silent streets.

“I figured as much,” you joked in return, Iwa rolling his eyes in response before dipping his head down and making his lips meet yours. For a second you were taken aback, but unlike what you expected, it didn’t feel wrong, on the contrary, it felt like it was the right thing all along. So, you let your arms snake around his neck as he placed his hands on your waist and pulled you in deeper. The trance was broken by your phone ringing, making you two break apart only to see the spiker smiling like crazy. “Wow,” you whispered, still in awe of everything that had happened and how it had all gone down. Staying in each other’s embrace, you picked up the phone and told your transfer mom you were only a street away and ended the call, looking up at Iwaizumi.

Iwaizumi’s POV

“I’ll call you later?” I asked, happier than I have ever been, as I held (y/n) in my arms, lost looking at the way their eyes sparkled as they looked at me. It felt even better than I had imagined all those times; seeing them look at me like I thought they never would. “Sounds good,” they said, standing on their tiptoes and kissing me again before we let go of each other and walked down the remaining street to their place hand in hand. “Bye,” they beamed at me after I stopped them for one last kiss before (y/n) walked up to their front door, me watching them walk away still smiling like an idiot. Once they were inside I started walking back to the bus station, checking my phone for the first time since (y/n) showed up to see 27 missed calls from Oikawa as I took it off of silent mode. Only a few minutes later my phone rang again, and despite how angry I was, I knew I had to pick up.

“I fucked up with (y/l/n),” the usually upbeat boy said the second I picked up, I could tell he had been crying, but I didn’t feel as bad as I should have for my best friend, he deserved it. “I know,” I replied, my voice unintentionally colder than I expected, “I talked to them.” The other side of the call fell silent, I wouldn’t let him guilt trip me after how he treated them. “How are they?” Oikawa asked genuinely. “Getting over it, but you should know what you did was fucking horrible, Shittykawa,” I said, making a mindful attempt to sound less harsh, we were friends after all. “I know, and I feel terrible, but I also know (y/n), so there’s no way to undo this,” he said seriously, it wasn’t often that I heard him like this, “and I don’t know if I want to either, the odds of me screwing up again are too high and I don’t want to hurt them.”

“So you’re saying they deserve better than you?” I guessed, knowing that’s probably what he meant without realizing. Toru just sighed, falling silent for a second before stating, “You know me too well. See ya at practice tomorrow Iwa-chan.” I said bye and hung up right as I got on the bus, taking a seat by the window and looking out towards the quiet streets, letting my mind wander. I was feeling too many things at once, there was too much going on and still so much to figure out, but it didn’t matter; I closed my eyes and remembered the kiss, the way (y/n) looked at me that made me feel like the luckiest person alive. Nothing else mattered, because I had them.

she went through twitter and searched up her name

she was actually interested in what the fans had to say about her

the members told her that she’s one of the members that changed the most this cb so

she’s wondering if the fans thought the same

but then twitter at that time was

so she saw the hate tweets

all of it

she saw some good ones but....

seeing the hate ate her mind like crazy

she knows what she’s getting herself into by debuting as the only girl in the group

and that getting hate is normal for idols

but she doesn’t get it now

they’re telling her to leave

to leave their boys alone

that she wasn’t needed in the group and nothing wouldn’t change if she left

she felt so hurt

she worked very hard for this cb, just as much as all the other cb’s they had before

she stayed up late at night trying to find out what could be missing in the song

or if she was doing a move right in their choreography

it wasn’t this bad during her debut

but now they started calling her names

names she tried to avoid

she knew she did well, she’s sure of it

the other members assured her too

but why would they say things like this

she’s a good person, isn’t she?

she didn’t do anything wrong

she sees some of her fans defend her

but then the anti’s just bully them and it hurts knowing that her fans are getting hurt bc of her

she was thankful that they were defending her but she didn’t want them to get into fights

taehee was crying waterfalls by now

then she started thinking about how doyoung would have to change his pillows since she cried on them

they keep telling her to back off and kept calling her names

smh she gave her all into the team and people are acting like this

taehee felt like leaving the group countless of times before

but the support of her member’s kept her going

but now she doesn’t know what to do

she feels her breaths becoming shorter

and it gets harder to breathe

she feels like falling and her chest starts to hurt

she’s having a panic attack

it takes her a while to get herself together

and focus on calming her breaths

her mini-episode was over but the tears. won’t. stop. flowing.

so she lays there and continues to cry and let it out

just like taeyong told her to

she screamed into the pillow. hit the pillow. cried into the pillow. and screamed some more, her cries muffled out by doyoung’s pillow

she’s still crying but she’s calmer now

“and after you calm yourself down, drink a glass of water. then go to your room and turn the ac on so you won’t feel too hot,” she remembers taeyong saying

so taehee gets up slowly

as she walked to the kitchen she feels her eyelids get hot and her legs wobble

but her throat is dry so she needs to take a drink

she decided that she would nap and hope everything will be better the next day

but then she remembers all the comments again and the tears flow harder

she was shaking so much she dropped the glass

her legs give out soon after

so when she feels the glass pierce her hand and leg, she let out a painful cry

the sound startled doyoung so he immediately runs to the kitchen

“taehee!”

when he gets there his heart breaks

taehee’s hair is messy and her eyes are so swollen

her cheeks are red from crying and she’s sitting on glass

so doyoung quickly rushes to her and pushes the glass away with his slipper

taehee couldn’t breathe again as she choked out sobs

“i’m sorry. i’m so sorry,” she said

doyoung thought she was referring to the glass falling so he was like “it’s fine, okay? it’s not your fault.”

and then he was telling her to breathe

she had episodes before, predebut

and he and taeyong would always be there to help her

they both didn’t notice taeyong and johnny were there until the former appeared in front of taehee

“taehee?,” taeyong called softly, “i want you to breathe, okay? count with me, ready?”

“one....”

“o-on,,,one....”

“two....”

“,,,,t,,two.....”

they counted all the way up to ten until taehee calmed down

“can you stand up?,” doyoung asked her and she nodded

“okay....i’m gonna clean your wounds up, okay?”

so doyoung led taehee to his room and closed the door

meanwhile taeyong called the manager

and johnny cleaned up the glass

“it’s happening again, isn’t it?,” johnny asked him.

“yeah....but this time we have to get it out of her. if she doesn’t tell us what’s wrong then we can’t help her,” :(((

so she got up and left the dorm

taeyong and doyoung were talking in the living room and they saw taehee walk out their door

and they were unsure whether to follow her or not

so they settled with texting the other members upstairs if she got there

when taehee got back to the upstairs dorm

but he only saw more tear streaks on taehee’s face, telling him he didn’t sleep

so he goes to sit behind her and rest his head on the headboard

“whenever your ready,,,” he whispers

so he waits

three minutes pass and taeyong thinks she’s fallen asleep

but slowly, she sits up and sits beside him

she fiddles with her fingers while taeyong brushes her hair out of her face

“i mean they told me that during debut but i thought i was doing so well-“ she sniffs

“it’s getting harder,,,,to ignore all these things. the fans do so much for us but i guess i saw it at a bad time.”

taeyong gave her a proper hug from her side and rubbed her back comfortingly

“thank you,” he hears her whisper

and taeyong’s a but relieved bc she’s opening up more bit by bit

“okay, rest up then. mark will wake you up when it’s time.”

so he leaves after a few moments

and ever since yesterday, she was able to sleep well even just for a few hours

then mark woke her up so she’s like

so she turns on the vlive

and she sees those people again

but this time she ignores them

October 2017 ⋅ Who the hell are you?

W, Here – NU’EST W

If there’s something that I have to thank Produce 101 for, is that it finally opened my eyes to Nu’est. I regret not paying any attention to them earlier, and even looking back I realise that I liked all their songs, but never really had any interest in the group itself.

Since their debut, Nu’est have been doing stuff that was basically avantgarde in terms of k-pop; now that electronic/EDM inspired pop has reached Korea, they can keep doing what they’ve always done and still sound better than everyone else.

Their title track Where You At is completely faithful to what their style has been so far; it’s EDM, but it somehow feels more refined than a lot of stuff that’s been put out recently. There’s a very trendy drop, but it’s announced by Dongho’s explosive vocals. There is a rap break, but it isn’t completely disjointed from the song.

While I wasn’t expecting that most of the album tracks would be solo songs, I do think that this is the best time for them to experiment: they were on the brink of disbanding, so anything that happens between now and contract renewal (and Minhyun’s return, hopefully) is a chance to test themselves and prepare for what they will do when they are back as 5. It’s also true that each of them can absolutely hold his own as a solo singer, which is not true of every group.

7 for 7 – GOT7

I’m going to quote my March 2017 self:

I never felt like GOT7 had a clear identity, but listening to their singles up to Fly, there is a faint thread that was completely cut with Hard Carry (the wooooorst) and hasn’t been picked up with Never Ever.

As of October 2017, I think GOT7 are back on track: with 7 for 7 and lead single You Are, I feel like they’ve finally gone back to their “romantic universe” concept, which is what has suited them best right from the beginning.

I was hoping this would happen ever since JYP’s new boy group, temporarily called Stray Kids, was announced. They seem to have been assigned the iKON/BTS image, leaving GOT7 free to shed their Never Ever grimy concept and go back to what they do best.

While previous songs relied heavily on GOT7’s not-so-amazing rappers, You Are features their super talented singers – not a complete surprise, after JJ Project had done so well this summer. The EDM elements of their previous releases are still there, but the vocalists really make the song special; I never stop being surprised by how lovely Youngjae’s part in the chorus is.

Of course I’m happy that the singers get to shine because that’s my personal taste, but it’s worth noting that this completes the shift of Jackson and Bambam from the most prominent members of the group to background figures. The difference between their presence in the Fly and the You Are performances is stark.

This bizarre dynamic – the members who caused trouble shoved in the back and the popular members thrown at the front – in the context of an album that is literally called 7 for 7, and the rhetoric of them being a 7-member group being very much reinforced.

I’m quite wary of this language being used at a time where the group is quite fragmented – there was a point a few months ago in which the members were spread over four countries when they were supposedly preparing two comebacks. Instead of feeling reassuring, it suggests that the situation is not quite as stable as it should be.

As far as I’m concerned, GOT7 have found their sound (again) and I would be more than happy for them to continue on this path. I’m curious to see if they will manage to stick to it for two comebacks in a row, and if it’s really true that #OT7 is forever.

Move – Taemin

If I had more time and more of a willingness to be disappointed by SM Entertainment, I would look into what was cut from the subpar video for Move, the title track of an otherwise perfect comeback. There isn’t a single bad song in this album. The aesthetics and styling are wonderful. The choreography for Move is the sexiest thing to have been performed by a man on a k-pop show this year.

K-pop either does big bangers or big ballads, but Taemin needs neither. The 80’s synth works perfectly with his breathy, sexy vocals. Move doesn’t exist in a completely different universe to last year’s Press Your Number, which had different 80’s elements, but it’s still something new and unique in the k-pop panorama.

While every single song on this album would be worth mentioning, I’m always struck by how much emotion he manages to put in his ballads. He could be talking about socks, and Rise would still make me cry for three hours.

I will be endlessly impressed with Taemin, who could have had nothing at this point if it was for SM (not the greatest at growing talents, sorry not sorry), and instead has managed to find an image for himself and to grow as a true artist. I hope he keeps it up for a long time.

Twicetagram – TWICE

It turns out that I’d rather hate Twice’s songs: at least I can pretend they don’t exist. When I find them catchy, which is the case for Likey, I am destined to suffer because of the absolutely revolting lyrics.

“In that small screen / I want to look the prettiest”

“Getting all dolled up / Is so annoying / But I can’t just be careless”

“I’m holding in my breath so I can zip up / Pulling it over my waist once more” “There are so many / Pretty clothes in this world”

I know that pop songs aren't that deep, and that this is not their first song with terrible lyrics, but it's shameful that a group as loved by young girls as Twice would push the idea that it's women's duty to look attractive to others (men, that is). This is one of the cases in which I’m kind of happy that my Korean is not that good, because I can just pretend that they’re not being absolutely idiotic and enjoy the song on my commute.

This is one of their better comebacks as far as I’m concerned: they all get to properly dance after Momo’s break, they aren’t dressed like schoolchildren, there is some actual singing from members that never made a sound before.

On the upside, while they still have zero production credits, many of the members got to write lyrics for the album tracks, which is more than many other girl groups ever get to do. Even the Wonder Girls members only had a handful of lyrics credits until the group was on the verge of disbandment and had to write their own songs. I love 24/7, Rollin’ and Don’t Give Up.

RAPID FIRE ROUND

Max & Match – LOONA Odd Eye Circle

I don’t know why it’s been so exhausting to follow Odd Eye Circle. I found Girl Front a bit too cute for what I was expecting, but on the other hand the choreography for repackage single Sweet Crazy Love is a bit too sexy for Choerry (who is only 16). While I love the song this time around, and I do think they look incredible in the video, I’m just looking forward to moving onto the next batch of girls and not have to question the concept of OEC anymore.

Fantasy – JBJ

With JBJ, basically all my Produce 101 favourites who didn’t make it into Wanna One have debuted in one form or the other. The song and the costuming have a very old school k-pop flavour, which is an interesting choice in a context where the trendiest post-Produce group wins (hi and bye, Rainz). I’m especially glad to see model-turned-idol Hyunbin onstage, because now YG will be forced to put him in the next boy group (muhahahahhah). I also live for Taehyun’s dancing and Sanggyun’s face rapping, so following them has been an absolute delight.

Knights of the Sun – SF9

I low key wanted to hate SF9’s O Sole Mio because Italy has nothing to do with the Latin sounds and “te quiero”, but my brain has been mushed by Despacito and anything by CNCO, so I was totally endeared by SF9 using their shirts as muletas and those random guitar interludes. I’m also not sure if someone thought that “Latin sounds” referred to actual Latin, because the phrase “ego dormio” is repeated several times in the song and friends, that’s the dead language, not the Enrique Iglesias genre.

It has to be said that all their albums have been excellent so far (I was obsessed with Breaking Sensation earlier in the year) and Knights of the Sun, despite not really sticking to the Latin theme, has some really good songs in it, like falsetto extravaganza Just On My Way.  

Hallelujah – Jimin (AOA)

I don’t even know how to justify this. Jimin’s voice is as grating as ever, and I love it as much as I always do. There is nothing that should bring together her squeaking, the pseudo-reggaeton, the signature “HEY HEY HEY HEY”, and the Christian hook that has nothing to do with the rest of the lyrics. This song makes no sense, but I’ve been listening to it constantly. What the hell are you, babe, hallelujah.

KK- You already know most of this, but I just wanted to put some of it in writing. It still baffles me that we can talk about nothing for so long. It’s like a never ending episode of Seinfeld.  Your phone calls keep me sane and your instagram memes keep me grounded. Even though we’re a couple hundred miles away, I don’t think we’ve ever been closer. “Knowledge Speaks, Wisdom Listens” This is going to take you far. Even though we won’t be together this summer, we have to keep each other motivated. Thanks for being such a great friend.

JW- To my oldest friend, I’m so glad that I kicked you in the shin in 3rd grade. Thanks for sticking with me through my chump years in middle school. Even though we’re far apart now, I have no doubt in my mind that we’re going to be friends forever. When we hang out, all my stress melts away and I feel like I can just be that goofy kid I used to be. You’re the most honest and genuine person that I have ever met. It’s so incredible that we can go months without talking while I’m away at school and then come back and pick up right where we left off. LH- Damn buddy, what a time it has been. Just about every good memory that I have from 7th grade forward has you in it. Project W, turning off the Xbox on round 30 of Nuketown Zombies, plotting to kidnap Taylor, small groups on Wednesdays, senior sunrise, Yosemite, Long Beach. So crazy to think how far we’ve come. From chumps in middle school to now being people who are actually doing things with their lives. Weird to think about. Thanks for being there for me man.

LS- Wow. Crazy to think that we met only a couple months ago.  You’ve been so honest and open and kind and helpful and I can’t thank you enough for that. Your hugs kinda hurt but it’s so worth it to be your friend. I have so much admiration for how genuine you are with everyone that you meet. I aspire to be the kind of friend that you are. Short in stature, but big in heart. Thanks for the good times this semester and I very much look forward to this summer.

ATG- Homie, I’m so glad we met this year. It’s only been two weeks, but I already miss you like crazy. You’re one of those people that I feel like I could talk to forever. I don’t think I’ve ever told you this, but you really inspire me. You’re so incredibly talented, but you’re also one of the most humble and down to earth people I’ve ever met. I feel like every time we hang out, I learn something new. Thanks for all the laughs, quotes, and music recommendations. Our nights out were definitely the highlight of this last year. A葛涵 G- To be completely honest, I don’t really know what to say here. All I know is that I wanted to write one of these for you. Whenever I see you on the sidewalk and we shoot the shit, I just get kinda happy. I realize how weird that sounds (I don’t mean it to be), but it’s true. When we hang out, I feel like I can say dumb shit and make stupid jokes and have someone that gets it. It makes me feel like I’m home. I really appreciate it. Keep rockin’ the double baseball hats and instagram polls.

MS- I’ll start by saying thank you for helping me get the internship because it means more to me than you know. I’ll follow that up by saying thank you for handling everything with housing so well. That was definitely the most stressful thing that I had to deal with this year and I’d probably be sub-letting a bush from the Morlan bunny if it wasn’t for you. But also, thanks for being such a good friend this semester. You’re an incredible guy and getting to know you has been an absolute pleasure. Working with you and living with you is something that I’m sure will be a highlight of our college experience. Next year is going to be our best year yet.

JY- I feel like I can’t say anything here that won’t sound whack as f00k, but hey #timesup amiright. Your cow milking skills are unparalleled but your sandwich eating could use some work. Seriously though, thanks for being such a bro. You don’t know it, but you’ve really helped to remind me to not take everything seriously and to have a good time above all else. I’ve had a great time this semester and I have no doubt that next year will be even more incredible (especially since we’re all sleeping in the same room). Pound it.

CVA- I’m convinced that you’re the only person in the greater Los Angeles area that can rock a peacoat in the summer. But in all seriousness, I’m so glad we met this year. There’s never been a time that we’ve hung out that hasn’t been loads of fun. I am beyond excited for next year and the years to come. It’s gonna be so much fun living together next year, even though it’s only gonna be for a semester. Thanks for being a friend this year and thanks for catching me when I fall ;)

SB- 1st off, thanks for giving me this idea. I remember when I saw you post this on your page and thinking to myself that I had to do that for my friends. That was such a genuinely nice thing to do. I’ve never really seen a guy do something like that before. It really made me realize how great of a person you are. I seriously don’t understand how you stay so humble because you are one of the smartest and most talented people I know. It’s also still so crazy to me that you were in LOK, but I’ll keep it on the dl. I can’t wait for next year man. It’s gonna be the time of our lives.

MZ- First off, oh my god. Second, you are actually the nicest person I have ever met. I genuinely do not understand how you always stay so positive. I get tired just being around you; I can’t imagine being you. You have this special way about you that makes it impossible to be in a bad mood when we’re in the same room. It makes me feel like I’m at home when we’re together. You’ve been a great fraternity mother and an even greater friend. Even though we had to say goodbye the other day, we’ll be back together soon.

SM- Honey, I don’t even know where to start this one. I never would have guessed that we would have been this close. You spill the tea a little too much and I’m still not 100% positive that you don’t want to shag all the pledges, but it’s ok. You’re a perfect example of striking a balance between working hard and playing hard. This semester would have been a completely different story if it weren’t for you constantly inviting me out. You’re extremely dedicated and extremely talented while also being one of the most genuinely fun people that I’ve ever met. I can’t remember the last time a came across someone that cares as much about their friends as you. You’re so nice and caring that in retrospect, I don’t see how we couldn’t be this close.

MC- Ummm, yeaaaa… sir? I remember when we first met. I thought you were just super nice and outgoing for o-week and I was like, “Hey, this person is pretty cool.” And then we started hanging out and you were still super nice and outgoing and I was like, “Wow. I really respect this person.” There are very few people that I know that can be super nice all the time and super honest all the time. I feel like most people are one or the other but you are somehow both. Thanks for being such a consistently good person and sorry for calling you names (but let’s be honest, that name is just too perfect). It was and will be an absolute pleasure, forever and always.

AC- It still kind of blows my mind how well we get along despite how vastly different we are, but at this point, I don’t question it anymore. Thanks for teaching me how to cube and thanks for giving me an excuse to watch old movies all the time. Thanks for making me laugh and attempting to motivate me. Even though we don’t hang out as much as we used to, it doesn’t mean that we didn’t have some great times this past year. Thanks for being my friend when few others would be.

AO- What can you say about a girl like you… It’s been truly incredible getting to know you this year. You’re so nice and funny and talented and I definitely don’t deserve to be your friend. I know that I’m a total flake, but thanks for sticking with me. I’m gonna try to forget the terrible formal that I took you to, but our countless trips to Disneyland will be one thing from last year that I will remember forever. Even though we won’t be bumping into each other at the caf anymore, this friendship is far from over.

LM- You were the first person at Chapman that I really clicked with. I remember the first night that we met. We were at someone’s housewarming party on the third week of school and we left and talked on that backyard porch for a couple hours about dumb shit. I know that it was just dumb shit but that meant a lot to me. I was a little worried when I got here that I wouldn’t fit in but that made me feel at home. Thanks. We had some really good times this year and we’re gonna have some more this summer and next year. If you ever need anything, you know who to call.

JI- You are truly one of a kind. You’re also the cutest MF at Chapman. I’m kind of in love with you man. Thanks for being such a gracious host this semester and thanks for being such a great friend. You’re one of the most fun loving and genuine people I’ve ever met and I can tell that we’re going to be friends for a long long time (especially if my SSN is still hung up on your wall).

NP- M’lad. I am seriously so happy that we met this year. I really appreciate how enthusiastic you are. You bring new energy into every conversation that I have with you. I feel like I learn something new every time we talk. I just really enjoy being around you. And I don’t mean that in a weird kind of way; I just genuinely enjoy hanging out with you. I can’t wait for next year man. I’m sure that we will have many more good conversations.

AL- Sometimes I forget how long we’ve been friends. It was that one Thanksgiving all those years ago and then countless Tuesday nights and weekends in between. I’m sorry that I haven’t kept in great touch since I’ve been away, but I’m so thankful for all the time that we’ve spent together. Seeing your grad pics the other day made me so happy for you. It was so so so good seeing you the other day. I hope it won’t be too long before we see each other again.

JCG- To be completely honest, you’ve been a really important figure in my life these past few months. Before we met, I hadn’t had an honest, open conversation with anyone in a good while. And the fact that we’ve continued that past the opening stages of our relationship means a lot. Thanks for being that for me. I know that sometimes I speak a little too openly, but the times when we can just sit down and talk about our feelings are some of the most relaxing and relieving times I have at school.
