Following up on the RACIST PJO Fan artist that likes to antagonize other Fan artists (Sevsalio)
So, I recently made this post detailing a racist interaction I had with this user.
Aka the person who made the following fanarts:
And despite other people reporting similar interactions, I have a lot of non-black people white-splaining how they're not anti-black or how what they said is fine.
Newsflash, my first post was for non-racist pjo fans to be aware, in case they interact with that user. For those of you that defend them, idrc, keep engaging with them, its so clear how normalised anti-blackness is in this fandom.
The user themselves had this to say:
That is called deflection. They're trying to make it seem as if the issue was that I disagreed with their opinion about mixed fanart between the book and the show.
First of all, their initial post that started all this was them accusing artists that draw Show!annabeth (black) with book!percy of being Racist. That is what they said. They have literally used the term "reverse-racism" in 2024.
They claimed that it was unfair that artists that draw Book!annabeth and Show!percy get "lynched" (more racist language btw), yet when asked, they couldn't give ONE example of that happening.
This user is not a victim being attacked for no reason. They hate seeing fanart of Show!annabeth with book!percy, and decided it was their place to call artists that did that racist. Then made up imaginary scenarios of the reverse to justify their statement.
The whole interaction can be read here, if they want to accuse me of hiding context or whatever.
They also specifically used the "Leah Sava Jeffires" tag (aka the black actress for show annabeth, who dealt with 2 years of relentless racist hate mobs & death threats), so that any fans of hers or the show would see the post.
I'm not just calling them racist for that though. Their response to my prodding had them revealing a lot of their blatant anti-black views (which they quickly deleted. wonder why?).
This is what they have to say about black people:
(Pretending to be black to deflect accountability. Nice).
And when confronted on their bigotry, this is how they like to respond to people:
Oh, and funfact, they're also transphobic (or atleast enjoy antagonizing other queer people. And no it doesn't matter if they're also gay):
Fyi, "I hate everyone equally" isn't an adequate response when people are telling you you're being bigoted :)
This person intentionally antagonizes other artists and has made it clear that they believe that there is too much representation for black people, racial minorities and queer people (all statistically under-represented groups).
I don't care if they said they're not racist, or transphobic or anything else. You think conservatives or homophobes openly think they're hateful? But if you enjoy antagonizing marginalized groups and multiple people within those groups have called out the shit you say... maybe it's not up to you to determine if you're a bigot.
The creator of the series himself, has literally made it clear even he doesn't appreciate people like you in the fandom, so your sense of entitlement is baffling.
Stop coming into my comments/messages to defend this person. IDC if you still wanna be friends with them, but y'all wont gaslight me into believing this rhetoric is okay. Good day 🩷

Like I'm sorry, I get that we're mostly supposed to spread positivity and all that, but we know that no space is perfect and fan spaces do tend to center western and white fans more, and everyone of us, literally myself and anyone who lays eyes on this post, needs to do self-reflection about our actions, because western fans are a bit too quick to talk in condescending ways down to the rest of us and we don't exactly have a lot of people believe us about fan spaces being exclusionary.
Concerns are taken out of context and belittled and that more than anything makes spaces feel unwelcome, because that's social power and privilege being leveraged against us.
If anyone needs to hear it no I'm not even personally all that torn up about the tour not including many continents right now, but what many fans have pointed out is that the lack of any address of that in conjunction with past racist and orientalist micro aggressions can create an overall experience of feeling generally excluded. And of course emotions are running high right now over a bunch of that stuff but the part that actually directly bothers me a lot is just how quick western fans are to use very condescending tones and words with us to make it seem like we don't understand something simple by divorcing these grievances completely from the context of larger exclusion that they are in.
Like, listen, you can ignore us and all that, but after all the talks about fandom racism and all the feel good "solidarity with poc fans!!" kinda posts and tags and all, this is a humble request (because what else can I make) to at least self reflect when you talk about any of this or talk on posts by fans who are angry about not getting explanations, and to at least ask yourself "am I being condescending right now? Am I talking down to someone? Am I voicing what I want to in a way that implies I'm on a higher horse by not being concerned/emotional about this thing?"
It's the smallest bit of respect that your fellow fans deserve. Because honestly, even before all this tour stuff I had enough of being talked down to in many many ways by western fans and not having anyone to turn to who could understand how unsafe that can make someone feel. This is a larger problem, please let's not pretend it isn't, because that isn't what will make it go away
Peace and love to all

Anne Rice, Literature, and Literacy
As a Black book reader of Anne Rice, seeing racist IWTV fans doing the "Black kids in Brooklyn don't even know what a computer is" bit by stating Black fans that they are "anti-intellectual" for discouraging or telling Black fans to not read the books (or simply implying that reading the books aren't important) is disturbing.
Black people are allowed to protect their peace, and not read a book written with racist themes, by a well-known controversial author. Furthermore, the implication that not reading a specific series from an author that had a sharp downward turn in quality after Memnoch (I know hot take, I'm sorry) makes a person immature and unintelligent is a level of self-aggrandizing racism that not even Rick and Morty fans could pull off. Black people refusing to read racist content and instead choosing to prioritize content with Black characters and less harmful political themes being associated with a lack of culture and media literacy is repulsive.
Anne Rice fans (not fans of her books, but fans of HER) are in such a large fandom bubble that they have forgotten that people have been actively harmed by Anne Rice THE PERSON who was alive and isn't a figment of fandom imagination. You can READ her opinions and her political beliefs, you can read what she has said and done to real-life people who are still alive and are in fandom TODAY.
People have been harassed by Anne Rice, and people have been threatened and doxxed by Anne Rice and her supporters. She isn't a figment of imagination or a historical figure without living memories. Fanfiction.net isn't Fanfiction.net for no reason. AO3 isn't aggressively "like that" (positive and negative connotations) without cause. The existence of modern fandom culture was built by her horrid actions, and the further and further we get from acknowledging the harm and change she brought to fandom culture, the closer we get to losing fandom culture altogether.
I'm not going to say names, but once again it is repeated offenders who I have spoken about who have once again implied that Black fans are "encouraging" stupidity in Black people. That Black fans are unintelligent and that they are "uncultured" of their own volition. I'm not going to mince words here, the IWTV fandom is full of pieces of shit who believe that Black people are unintelligent and that their unintelligence is "self-inflicted". That their lack of interest in reading a singular book written by a controversial figure is a sign that they are inherently inferior. We've seen this with "Black culture encourages unintelligence" and "Black culture encourages violence" so seeing it within the confines of a space made up of queer losers (for lack of a better term as I am one myself) isn't surprising. But it is disappointing in ways that words, barring expletives, cannot describe. The xenophobia and racism towards African Americans in a show that centers African Americans is revolting. If I want to hear a rant about how Black Americans are encouraging vice and delinquency I could listen to Richard Spencer or Nick Fuentes wax poetic, I don't want to hear it from fans of a woman whose harassment campaigns towards critics are continuing from beyond the grave.
I don't want to be the person that begs people to read Black literature, but I wish a black person would walk up to white people and scoff when they say they haven't read N.K Jemisin or Octavia Butler. That we shall roll our eyes and say "What has literacy come to?" when someone says they don't know who Zora Neale Hurston is. Who walks around and rants about how "White culture is in such a bad spot because their people don't encourage listening to Jazz and Hip Hop. And how I shed my Black savior tears about how destructive their culture is,". Maybe then we would start to see shame.

Understanding Lennon McCartney Rewatch Part 1.3
Okay can anyone explain the “false hotel registration” thing to me? Does it mean they registered under a false name? So Paul registered under a false name so he could go fuck a girl in his room without getting in trouble with the press? I'm confused. Didn't they bring girls to their rooms all the time without getting in trouble? It doesn't make sense. Why did he feel the need to register under a different name?
Paul, talking about American conservatism, “So many organizations over here that are nuts anyway.” John, “Yeah, they're so far right they just–” tape ends. They really were brave, though. To say what they thought and risk losing what they'd only just got. I wonder who cut the recording.
Journalist: Paul, are you planning to marry Jane Asher? John: scream ‘no.’ Go on. Lol John certainly says what he feels doesn't he?
Paul making fun of the racist question. Good job bud.
The whole “Yesterday” thing is crazy. Like, what a feat, first of all. I think we forget how unbelievably successful the song was.
Second of all, I know John's reaction was childish and mean, but his feelings were valid if you just look at the treatment and reception of “Ticket to Ride” (John's dead mum song). Like objectively yesterday is a better song, but still.
Oh, John. Poor thing.
If “Girl” is secretly about Paul . . . yeesh. It's so obsessive and adoring and simultaneously so disappointed and disparaging. John always has such impossible standards for Paul. “She promises the earth to me and I believe her, after all this time I don't know why.” Um… maybe because he literally did give you the world? At so many points I find myself asking, “what more could Paul possibly have given John?”
People always take this quote as a sexuality thing, but couldn't it also be a conscience thing? Revulsion at taking advantage of the fact that all these women are fans? At the scale of his infidelity? I don't know, am I giving him too much credit?
The thing about Paul, John – and though it drives you insane, it's a big factor in why you love him -- is he's not going to be bullied into anything. If he decides to take LSD it's going to be on his own terms. And I know you think it'll bring you two closer, and you're right, but peer pressure just doesn't work on him. There's no point. You know that.
I LOVE Paul and the Indica. Designing the wrapping paper in secret up in his little attic room, covering over the shop windows so he can do his handyman work building shelves and painting in peace. It's Linda's Paul pre Linda, you know?
John is so good at PR as in making something sound as beautiful and important and powerful as possible. Which is something Paul absolutely relied on John to do and clearly could not do on his own after the break up. Look how John makes them almost into prophets here.
"I really wanted to live in London but I wouldn't risk it." Another thing to make John envious of Paul and resentful of Cynthia. I really wish those two had just never got married.
“I don't object to people having a lot of money, I never did. But I do object to people being stony broke and starving.” RIP John, you would've loved the American “left” of today. But you can't have the former without the latter, sorry.
This picture always gets me. It's ridiculous. Pattie and George. Mo and Ringo. John and Paul. With Cynthia awkwardly by herself. It's funny. It's adorable. It's crushing. And with that quote? It's impossible.
I think Tara Browne is overlooked. Paul brought him home for Christmas. That's a big deal. And John hated him enough to laugh when he read about his death. That's also a big deal. Paul and his messed up social climbing obsession. I do think it's worth pointing out, though, the difference between Paul’s LSD trip with Tara and his trip with John. More on that later.
I really do think they were all staunchly anti-racist for their time, you know, besides John's racist jokes and drawings… but Paul particularly. And I have to wonder where that came from. Did he have empathy for people being judged on appearance and background? Was it partially due to his idolization of black artists? Did Little Richard maybe say something to him about racism in America? Anyone have any thoughts?
Actually, same, John.
Okay and I have to share my hot take on the whole Jesus scandal. It's this: the American right doesn't actually care about Jesus. They care about protecting their hegemony. They didn't like that the Beatles were openly and stubbornly integrationist. They didn't like Paul's comment about their inhumane racism. But they couldn't openly counter that without showing their hand. So they used the Jesus comment as an excuse. If they play the religious persecution card, they get to paint themselves as the victims and therefore the good guys while they take down anyone who challenges the status quo that keeps them in money and power (aka the Beatles).
Maybe I should've had a “poor baby” tally because the number of times I've said that about John in these comments has got to be tally-worthy. I would've driven around in a gorilla suit with you, honey!
It is actually amazing that there hasn't been more speculation on Paul's sexuality with all these serious boyfriends.
Paul tells a story about a time he flew a plane, and how much better he liked it than being a passenger. First off. Imagine being a pilot and just being like “oh, you've never touched a joystick in your life, but you're Paul McCartney? Sure, go ahead. Fly the plane.” But also. His control issues and his confidence are both off unreal. No one in their right mind would feel more safe flying a plane – as someone with a complete lack of experience – than when a licensed pilot is flying it.
Okay I literally JUST learned that Here There and Everywhere says, “how good it can be” not could. Can. And it's one of those in my "for sure this was about John" folder. Okay then. Wow.
The thing is they really did compliment each other's songs a lot more than modern Paul makes it seem like. So I wonder what it was about the “Here There and Everywhere” compliment that made it so special to Paul?
This footage where John is hiding behind McCharmley. I love protective Paul and how different he is to protective John and how much they needed each other.
Hall of Fame quote: “what composer do you respect the most?” “I dunno really. John Lennon.” “Paul McCartney.”

Hi! I'm sorry if this an inappropriate question to ask, but I was wondering if you had any advice on how to accurately portray characters of color? I'm White and my creative fiction includes a lot of diverse characters, and I don't want to just ignore how their races impact their stories but at the same time being a racial/ethnic minority isn't something I've personally experienced and I don't know how to walk the line between good representation and some White dude telling stories that aren't his place to tell. Do you have any advice on how to accurately present characters of color without appropriating?
Luckily I have time today so I'll give my 2 cents! For one: there is no such thing as "accurate" portrayals of POC. Our experiences aren't a monolith. Something personal I would write and pull from my lived experience might not be relatable to, say, another queer Indonesian. And characters I write that are outside of my identity (Black, disabled, etc.) are inevitably going to be less authentic compared to someone of those identities tackling those characters. That's just something to make peace with- we can only do the best we can with the perspective we have.
With that: the usual platitudes are "do your research" and "listen to POC", I dislike both of these sayings! I get what they mean, but I don't love the insinuation of "doing research and listening" as a means of personal creative benefit. So instead I encourage different mindsets:
Instead of "do your research" (where identities can be treated as subjects to be learned and not people) I prefer "expand your perspective". Art is so cool because it's self expression. Stories are awesome because it's a shortcut to a person's deepest feelings. They get you fascinated and invested in a life so unlike your own. I can't stand "I only read queer books" people because it's an admission that they refuse to engage with identities they can't relate or project onto. There are so many important stories out there outside of your bubble. Get into the habit of earnestly learning about perspectives outside of your own. And not with the mindset of "this'll make me a better writer if I consume the identity and can become them" but with the mindset of getting to learn about a new friend. I think people take "stay in your lane" too literally sometimes where they focus so much on writing about their own experiences that they miss out on empathizing with other people.
Instead of "listen to POC" (I hate this one. Because our opinions aren't a monolith, it essentializes all of us to being media critic savvy experts, and white people tend to cherry pick the POC opinions they like instead of looking at the wider conversation) I prefer "improve your media criticism skills, and supplement with different perspectives". Not only should you "expand your perspective" as my last point said, but you should also be critical of things you read and learn! Learning about how ableism, racism, classism, etc. operates in life helps inform your opinion of how an identity was portrayed in a story. Recognize that earnest, and well intended attempts at representation can still be flawed or performative (the amount of times I'm told "I'm sure they weren't intending to be racist" like I truly believe the writer is a mustache twirling racist villain is too much). It's important to be opinionated! Do the work to find different perspectives to inform your own.
Lastly, don't ask for labor from marginalized people haha. I know that's what you're doing now (and this always happens to me whenever I voice a critical opinion of race representation) but I happen to have time (I'm still waiting on my editors to get back to me, such is the life of publishing). Most people don't, and are exhausted with explaining themselves. I don't bother my other marginalized friends whenever I write perspectives outside of my own. I do as much of the work reading articles, history, criticism, art etc. first. Especially if it's going to be a published work, then find Authenticity Readers and pay them for their labor. Avoid asking general, easy to google answers y'know? A lot of people have done the work writing thought pieces in their own time about a variety of perspectives.
#askjesncin#media criticism#writing advice#there isn't a formula for how to write people of color#just a mindset on how to approach our art and representation

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER SENTENCE STARTERS
❛ I'm sorry for your loss, your...your losses, rather. ❜
❛ Nobody gets away with anything. Not really. ❜
❛ Don't lecture me about family values. You're just as shit in that department as I am. ❜
❛ That day was the last day we were all in the same place. Alive. ❜
❛ They will love you because I love you, and the only thing stronger than love is how scared they are of getting cut out of the will. ❜
❛ And most people go their whole, wasted, stupid lives without one minute of true resolution. Not me though. ❜
❛ You know what a resolution is? It's a deal you make with the future. ❜
❛ The people in charge of making us healthy make us sick. We cheat the dying. We fleece the poor. Promote the racist. Let the demons run amok. This world needs changing. ❜
❛ You're supposed to be shadowing me. Shadows don't fucking talk. ❜
❛ This is beneath you. And you're going to kill it. But you're better than all of this. And the minute you figure that out, you're going to be unstoppable. ❜
❛ There's no such thing as a step back. You go forward. If you hit a brick wall, you don't go back, you go through. ❜
❛ Nearly realized is the sweetest. It's better, I promise, in the moment just before than in the moment after. ❜
❛ You are consequence. And tonight, you are consequential. ❜
❛ You are a pretty, pretty little thing. ❜
❛ You wonder why people hate us. This is why. ❜
❛ Everybody knows that edible arrangements are what you send to people you hate. ❜
❛ If you start thinking this is reality, you'll just slip into the abyss. ❜
❛ We can talk about it after because I've had a shit day and I really just wanna starfish and forget the world. ❜
❛ Don't talk to me until I've come at least twice. ❜
❛ I love how deliciously, pointlessly mean you lot can be. ❜
❛ You still didn't need to come here though. It could have happened quiet. Peaceful. In bed. But I guess it's got to happen like this. ❜
❛ It's amazing how far you can get on denial. You know why so many people use denial to get by? Because it really fucking works. ❜
❛ You can't enhance this image? You see it all the time on TV. They hit a button, it enhances it. ❜
❛ I don't even own anything funeral black. ❜
❛ Satin is silk for poor people, no one should wear it to a funeral, unless they died in it. ❜
❛ Nobody knows they're the fall guy until they're falling.❜
❛ Women are the natural leaders of the species. Ancient Egypt had it right. ❜
❛ Okay, just because the door's open doesn't necessarily guarantee you a seat at the table. ❜
❛ You're not who I thought you were. ❜
❛ I really didn't want to think it, but...you're all fucking monsters. ❜
❛ Watching you shit on your principles would have been worth every fucking penny. ❜
❛ The mind of guilt is full of scorpions. And I wouldn't wish their sting on anyone. ❜
❛ Don't have to be smart to be dangerous. I'm not scared of rattlesnakes 'cause they're so smart. ❜
❛ You're so out of touch with your human side...you can't even listen to anything outside your own head. ❜
❛ I haven't seen you sleep in like...I mean, it's been a fucking long time. Like, horror movie long. ❜
❛ Life is insane. It is madness. The sooner you understand that, the better off you'll be. ❜
❛ The world might not be safe but listen to me, and listen carefully. I won't let anything happen to you. ❜
❛ All these terrible things and I thought, that's when people come together. But we've never been further apart. ❜
❛ Tell me it's worth it. Tell me you know the risk and I'll be there with you. I'll back you up. Just tell me. ❜
❛ Shut your mouth, get your shit together. The fuck is wrong with you? ❜
❛ Men, when they think they're immortal, all they want to do is fuck. When they figure out they're going to die, all they want to do is fuck. ❜
❛ It just makes you think, you know, life is so fucking short. ❜
❛ You don't have to be a tyrant, but if you don't want to be consistently cruel, then you have to be sufficiently brutal at least once to establish authority. ❜
❛ I thought it was an act. I figured you just played the housewife so you could keep a roof over your head. Spread your legs or suck his dick twice a week and you're set. You never have to work a day in your life. And I thought, "Good for her, she found her angle," but...this is really you. Isn't it? ❜
❛ Words got us into this, words can get us out. ❜
❛ You're a collection of impeccable, elaborate masks in orbit of a stunted heart. ❜
❛ There are certain things one shouldn't have to face in life. Time enough for self-reflection after. ❜
❛ I don't normally like to get my hands this dirty, but honey, you earned it. ❜
❛ I see you now. I look at you and I see... You. The poverty of you. ❜
❛ The real world is Darwinian. Survival, chaos, power. Leverage. ❜
❛ You feel it. In the air. We're sitting outside of time and space. ❜
❛ This is the moment luck meets opportunity. ❜
❛ In the ancient world, we'd seal this with blood, or spit. And then later, papyrus. But, a deal's a deal all over the world. ❜
❛ We're a... virus, I think. People, I mean. ❜
❛ But everyone loves something. And in that love there's collateral. ❜
❛ I say this with love. Let it go. Let it all go. ❜
❛ So I say, we stand tall and proud. Bill's come due. Let's not hide here in the basement like we've got something to be ashamed of. No. Not us. You and me against the world. ❜
❛ It may not have been perfect, but you can't say we didn't change the world. How many people can say that at the end? ❜
❛ I knew I would climb to the top of the tower on a pile of corpses. ❜
❛ It don't matter in the end why you did any of it. I don't fucking care why you did it. We don't want your confession, or your rationale, or your explanation. ❜

An obsessive Patrochlilles (from the game Hades) shipper "who wants to ship in peace" just put me in a "racist wall of fame" post for saying Greek gods are... ethnically Greek . Imagine being so blinded by rage that you don't know what "ethnically" means 😂 Guyssss your ethnos is not dependent on your appearance, k? Anyone can be ethnically Greek!?!?! (As I also explain in the text they screenshoted)
(It's extra funny because "ethnos" is a Greek word and like everything else Greek, this person didn't research it 😂)
Imagine being hurt because these aaawful Greeks ruin your uwu cute gay ship (which HAS to be the Hades version only for some reason) with their silly concerns about being treated as an interchangeable "race" and culture by Western empires for a few centuries now 😱 We are extremely sorry to ruin your online nsfw shipping experience with our ancient heroes because we don't want real Greeks to continue being treated like shit, please forgive us🙏
And Of Course, on top of everything, their tags include the words "Classics fandom". I couldn't make this shit up if I tried 😂

Decided to make a post about how most (not all) of Thingol's actions that fans criticize were justified (or at least understandable) and in the interest of his people. I'd recommend checking out warrioreowynofrohan and imakemywings for far more comprehensive meta about the tall boi. Also, no quotes because I'm lazy, but all the canon I mention is from the published Silmarillion.
*************************************************************
1. Quenya ban
I've seen the Quenya ban be described as cultural genocide which icks me out. First of all, maybe don't use genocide to describe fictional characters in a fictional universe, especially when it's happening to real people and cultures. Second of all, that term is still inaccurate. Quenya was spoken in Gondolin, probably in Hithlum and Nargothrond too, and no one was punished for it. Earendil could speak Quenya. The Numenoreans could speak Quenya. Bilbo fucking Baggins could speak Quenya.
The ban was a nonviolent way for Thingol to enact some sort of consequence for the people who murdered his brother's people, stole their ships, and then took advantage of his hospitality while keeping this heinous secret. And it was a way to make sure that Sindarin remained the lingua franca of Beleriand, because the Noldor had already proven their disdain towards the Sindar and their intent to establish their own kingdoms. I think it was imakemywings who said that the ban was also a soft power move to show how all the Sindar who worked with/under the Noldor were still ultimately loyal to Thingol and would obey his decree.
So no, the Quenya ban was not racist or xenophobic or cultural genocide. Again, don't use those terms to describe fiction, and if you insist on doing so, at least look them up in the dictionary first.
2. Isolationism
No he wasn't. He was friends with the dwarves, the Laiquendi, and the Falathrim. He made a mutually beneficial alliance with the Haladin. He was rightfully wary of the (armed-to-the-teeth and hiding something) Noldor but even after he learns about the kinslaying he says he won't cut off relations with the Nolofinweans indefinitely because he recognizes that they're in the fight against Morgoth together.
The Girdle of Melian was only put in place after the first battle when Denethor was killed and it was absolutely the right decision strategically. Thingol knew immediately what it took the Noldor 400 years and countless deaths to understand: there was no defeating Morgoth without the Valar. So he took his people and anyone else who was willing, and he created a kingdom with a semblance of peace where they could thrive. Doriath was a fortress and a symbol of hope for Beleriand. As long as Doriath stood, Morgoth hadn't won completely. No one who cared about Beleriand would have sacrificed that hope for some fanciful ideals of vengeance and glory. And don't forget, he let Beleg and Mablung participate in the Nirnaeth. The fact that only those two went means that no one else in Doriath was willing to fight.
3. Maedhros's comment about a king is he who can hold his own
The arrogance. I'm sorry, Mr. I Got Fooled By Morgoth, were you able to hold your own? You'd be a skeleton hanging from a cliff if Fingon hadn't rescued you. Thingol was filling his armories while the Noldor were still chilling in Valinor. Thingol was battling Morgoth while the Noldor were betraying each other and abandoning their home. He literally said: "...elsewhere there are many of my people, and I would not have them restrained of their freedom, still less ousted from their homes." Those are the words of a king who feels responsible for the people outside of Doriath too. Also, check out the difference between Maedhros's "we'll go wherever we want" comment and Thingol's "I don't like them but they'll be the deadliest foes of Morgoth".
His decision to retreat and put up the Girdle was strategically sound. Many Laiquendi joined him after Denethor's death and the Falathrim came and went freely. He had a choice between spreading out his already depleted forces to help the northern Sindar/Falathrim (and likely get annihilated) or retreat, recover, and wait for a better opportunity (the arrival of the Noldor was not a better opportunity; like I said, he knew only the Valar could defeat Morgoth, and Melian also sensed the Doom). Again, Doriath was a symbol of hope. "Gondor wanes, you say. But Gondor stands." Its survival was essential.
4. Attitude towards Men
Look I'm not going to defend his less-than-stellar attitude, but I do think it's exaggerated by the fandom. Before Beren came, Thingol still agreed to let the Haladin dwell in his territory. He even sent the marchwardens to aid them against orcs. And the minute he realizes Beren's loyalty, bravery, and true love for Luthien, he changes and welcomes him (and also appreciates his humor). He treats Turin like a son, and honors and pities Hurin even when Hurin disrespects him. Turgon otoh refuses to let Hurin into Gondolin even though they were actually friends.
5. Didn't join the Union of Maedhros
See: reasons above. Doriath had to survive. Elves could not defeat Morgoth without the Valar. Also, afaik he didn't actually have an army, just the marchwardens and his guard. Also also, Maedhros had subtly threatened him, Celegorm and Curufin had openly threatened him, and this was after they kidnapped and tried to forcibly marry Luthien. Also also also, he "went not to war, nor any out of Doriath save Mablung and Beleg" meaning the general populace didn't want to fight either.
6. Didn't accept refugees
As far as I'm aware, this is completely fanon. The (Noldorin, just fyi) refugees of Nargothrond are accepted into Doriath, as are the Sindar after Bragollach. Curufin and Celegorm's people join Amrod in Ossiriand I believe after the Nirnaeth. There's no canonical basis for this claim.
7. Responsible for Finrod's death
Nah dude. I'm not saying he was right in setting the quest, it was absolutely a horrible quest. But Finrod decided of his own free will to help Beren. You can say that he wouldn't have died if Thingol hadn't set the quest, but that's like saying if Morgoth hadn't stolen the Silmarils, the kinslayings wouldn't have happened. Objectively true, but missing a whole lotta nuance and absolving the Feanorians of their culpability. And I'm not comparing Thingol with Morgoth so don't start.
*************************************************************
The criticisms I don't mention are the ones I agree with. He should have listened to Melian. He should have reasoned with the dwarves instead of insulting them; honestly, his death was pretty stupid. He probably should have been a little more willing to establish relations with the Nolofinweans, but I understand completely why he didn't. He definitely shouldn't have fucked with the Silmaril but tbh, that seemed like one of the parts where a bigger force was determining things, like it was written in the Music already, because that Silmaril did play a key role in Morgoth's defeat.
In conclusion: Thingol rocked, fandom shocked.
Obligatory disclaimer: I meant no offense to anybody, and everyone is entitled to hold their own opinion on the Silm and its characters.

I think.....I might have sort of pushed my asshole coworker into giving his two weeks notice???
Rant under the cut
During a time where he was pissed off at the management but refusing to leave because he "completes something once he started it" I kept telling him how since he was "so much more qualified & experienced than me he had more options, he wasn't stuck here like me, he didn't have to take this shit and wait here" (insert *sweet voice & fluttering eyelashes*) and anyway about a week ago he suddenly handed in his resignation
The biggest reason is that obviously he's pissed off at the big man in charge.....but for my own peace of mind I like to think I played a small part in it
Anyway I pissed him off so badly today he's giving me (& everyone else) the silent treatment. For a man who has no problem insulting every single thing about what you say, do, look like AND your family members he gets awfully sulky when you tell him you'll "never take advice from him".
Sorry I don't want to take advice from someone whose personality & values I genuinely dislike and who spends a majority of his time shit talking his wife - like you are clearly miserable AND I have 0 respect for you, why would I want your advice?? If anything I want my life to be nothing like yours. I don't want to grow to be this bitter & rotten. I don't want the people around me to text each other behind my back consoling each other because I'm that much of a shithead
He'll say something very personal and insulting about you and laugh his ass off, then he'll look at you to see if you're laughing. If you're not he'll slam his hand onto the desk next to you and ask why you have no personality/are boring (genuinely think he takes delight in how much the slamming has an effect on you - if you're more likely to flinch he'll do it more often)
But the SECOND you return that treatment he gets butthurt girl what happend to you
This man is 20 YEARS my senior, SIR WHO THE FUCK SHAT IN YOUR CEREAL
I've never met anyone so obviously insecure? so obviously trying hard to fit in with the younger office crowd around him, but the only way he knows to do that is by being loud & crass & mean? So much of a hypocrite but so oblivious to the fact?
Anyway congrats to this fucker who in the 2 and a half weeks I have known him has managed to be, in no particular order, : racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, islamaphobic, ableist, violently angry, fatphobic, a braggart, a big fan of corporal punishment, thinks he's funnier than he actually is and gets angry when you disagree, thinks he's smarter and more capable than every single person to ever exist, spent minutes talking about how stupid our 21 year old coworker (who refuses to talk to him) is, a HUGE fucking hypocrite AND SOMEHOW MORE
edit:
HE PUT HIS SMALL AS FUCK CHILDREN ON SPEAKER SO WE COULD ALL HEAR HOW SCARED THEY WERE WHEN HE THREATENED TO COME HOME IF THEY DIDN'T IMMEDIATELY GO TO SLEEP. WHO DOES THAT!? I'VE NEVER HEARD SOMEONE'S VOICE "QUIVER IN FEAR" BEFORE THEN AND I NEVER WANT TO HEAR IT AGAIN, SPECIALLY WHEN ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE IS A 5YR OLD JFC
I feel like I'm making up a cartoon villain😭

It begins 🤣
Q. Liking that particular pic and deliberately skipping over the Oliver one was a choice.
Q. Lou sees the passive aggressiveness from Oliver and chooses to match it. Well played
Q. I see people saying he liked the photo but I can't find his like?? Did he really like it?
Q. That timing was sus
Q. Oh they hate each other 🤣
Q. That was an odd choice for his proof of life.
A. Sigh. Will I ever know peace again? I want to start by saying that I also haven't found the like. But I didn't do a deep dive to look for it either. So I will assume, for now, that it's there. Having said that, he's just weird, I'm sorry. That's a bizarre thing to do. He hasn't had anything at all to do with anything any of them have posted in forever. The timing of it is a little suspicious. However I do have an ask that says Lou knows the photographer so maybe that's why he liked it. I don't know. I am not a conspiracy person, but he clearly saw the 911 related photo that Oliver took and intentionally didn't 'like' that one. That doesn't do anything to counter the argument that he's no longer allowed to talk about 911 related things. If anything it kind of lends proof to that take. In the end it probably genuinely doesn't mean anything. But yeah that wasn't the proof of life his fans were asking for. It might make them ease off Ryan a bit though, which would be nice since they act like a bunch of racist lunatics where he's concerned.
It probably won't make things easier for Oliver though. And they were already amping up their dislike of him, so I'm already irritated on his behalf. Look it can kind of be seen as just one more indication that they genuinely don't seem to like one another. It does come across as a very passive aggressive gesture, unless he does truly know that photographer. If he doesn't know the photographer though then it can probably be viewed as intentionally passive aggressive. Whatever the reason though it definitely continues to prove that the guy is just really freaking weird.
Thank you Nonny. Yeah, we saw this coming, didn't we?
As for the post itself? Yeah, basically this... all of this. Ali is right.
I haven't really searched for the like myself, since that would take up a lot of time. But one of the more radical BT stans posted a picture of Lou liking the photograph and, judging by the accompanying message, they were clearly disappointed in their icon. So yeah, it is real.
I don't even want to understand Lou anymore. I would just like to put all of this behind me and forget he even exists. Unfortunately I can't do that quite yet. Hopefully soon though. Very soon.
IMPORTANT! Please don't repost this ask and/or a link that leads straight to my Tumblr account on Twitter or any other social media. Thank you!
Heads up! For anyone who is giving me the shifty eyes for reposting Ali's updates instead of reblogging. Read this.
Remember, no hate in comments, reblogs or inboxes. Let's keep it civil and respectful. Thank you.
If you are interested in more of Ali’s posts, you can find all of her posts so far under the tag: anonymous blog I love.

Something that bothers me about this fandom is when people say that we shouldn't ship Sokka and Katara with Zuko and Azula because colonizers and the Fire Nation tried to colonize the water tribes and wipe them out. Here's the thing. It wasn't just the water tribes. The Fire Nation attacked the Earth Kingdom too. They completely wiped out the air nomads as well. And yet I don't see anyone having any issue with Zukaang, Jinko or Jetko. So why is it only a problem when it's Zutara, Zukka, Azutara, and Sokkla?
Also? You do realize that by saying this, you're pretty much saying that white people and black people shouldn't be together. That pretty much anyone who is white should not be together with a person of color, because of the history of colonialism. You're saying that people of color should not look for love outside of our own race because of the history that is there. Do you know what we call that way of thinking? Racism. And I will tell you why. Because you are saying that interracial relationships are a problem and should not exist. And for someone like me, who is from the United States of America, where interracial marriage is still looked down upon in some states, and the Republicans have tried to get rid of it before? As someone who is black and indeginous, as someone who had a grandmother who was half white? I take offense to that. Because you are being racist.
I'm also going to say this, and I'm sorry if it sounds racist but it's the truth and it needs to get called out: this kind of thinking is usually by white people who see it as some kind of gotcha moment and think that they are combating racism by saying stuff like this. Man, do I have some news for you. You aren't helping anything. You are still actively a part of the problem because you are still being racist. Not to say that it's only white people, because I've seen people who aren't white say the exact same thing. And it's nonsense. Why are we condemning people who have nothing to do with what their ancestors did? By that logic, I shouldn't be best friends with a boy I met in my freshmen year of high school, who is white and from Greece. Because people who look just like him enslaved my people centuries ago, treated them like garbage, hunted us down like we were animals, etc. But guess what? That has nothing to do with him.
Lastly, people who are from different cultural backgrounds getting together should be seen as a sign of hope, a sign that we can learn to co exist with one another and live in peace with each other. It should be seen as a step forward to a better future. It should not be seen as a bad thing. If two people from different backgrounds want to be together? That's on them. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. And if it bothers you that much, that's a problem that YOU have and that you need to look at and sort out. Don't make it everyone else's problem.

The ugly feeling of guilt clutched the ice cold heart of the former Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Being good was not just difficult but impossible for him.
Grindelwald was never good at being nice.
Being spoiled by his parents and being naturally intelligent, talented and handsome made him arrogant.
It was difficult to simmer down his inner fire.
He married his dream girl. A damn muggle. He was racist towards them. He considered them s burden on society. Waste of space, food, money and the list can go on and on.
Grindelwald first raped you out of hate. You were teasing him by your whispers and feathery touches. Like a damn ghost.
Never giving him inner peace. Somehow, he couldn't kill you. He just couldn't do it. His pride as a man was degraded and he blamed you. He raped other muggle women in the past to humiliate them. Not out of lust.
Grindelwald then tried to sleep with beautiful witches whether respected or even brothels. But, your lovely doll face would stop him.
Eventually, he kidnapped you to be his sex slave. After realizing he loved you. He begged for forgiveness and asked for marriage.
You wanted to leave but that was one thing Grindelwald couldn't give you. He would go insane without you.
So, you gave him conditions, you made him imprison his minions, stop his racist feelings, and use his intelligence to make both worlds a better place.
And therapy was one of them...
That's right.
Like a child, Grindelwald had to see a psychiatrist named Hannibal Lecter. He somewhat looked like him only much younger. Oh, well.
Brushing it off, he came back home early than usual. The oven had food inside and the non meat dishes were already placed on the table.
You must be in his room. Or should he say your new room you shared. Gellert smiled.
He took off his jacket and carried it with him. He opened the door quietly. You were applying makeup. The said man felt flattered but kept his stoic face.
You were dressing to impress him. Like him you were trying to make it work. Not the way he was expecting this relationship to start.
He regretted raping, kidnapping and then raping you again. You forgave him.
Name figured you were just kind of fucked up in the head but good. A little weird. Maybe that can change.
Placing his jacket on the bed. Grindelwald hugged you from behind and cupped your breasts. He inhaled the crook of your neck and began to lick it.
"Are you mad at me?" He whispered.
You shook your head
"Don't lie." He made you stand up from your vanity desk seat and lead you to the bed. He pushed you down on it to lay down. He hovered over you.
"Look." He rolled his eyes and snickered like a child. "I am sorry." It was a mouthful. He hated apologizing due to his privileged life. A rich man from a European country and a wizard.
He didn't mind submitting to you. Thank Merlin you didn't make him apologize to his victims of abuse in the past when he was racist.
He rather cut his tongue off.
But, you were nice.
He teasingly trailed his fingers between your chest. "I am sorry for yelling at you in the morning."
It was almost a month of marrying him. You would call him Grindelwald and never his first name. He ordered you but you would always forget. The first few times, he let it pass. Now, he got mad how you were so formal to him. He wants not only be called his first name but endearments. It was taking too damn long and so slow.
You almost cried in fear. He stopped hitting you but he still scared you. His vein almost popped on his forehead and he snarled like a beast.
The Wizard left without a word in anger.
"Let me make it up to you." He whispered against your lips huskily.
"But..." He smirked down at you teasing you. "I have three questions."
You blinked in surprise.
"Who is in charge?" He squeezed your right boob gently.
Your face turned red. "You... Gellert."
Uh oh. You saw the flame of desire ignite even more. Shit.
He will have sex now? Your dinner will burn!
You wanted him to fuck you after.
Should you tell him? But, he works all day in an office and you knew he was struggling trying to be kind.
With the way he goes to that creepy look alike psychiatrist. You should please him.
You ran your nails through his gray hair.
He groaned in pleasure and began to pant like a wild animal.
"Good. Who do you belong to?"
You gulped. His hands roaming your clothed curves. "I belong to you, Gellert."
He kissed your ear and began to gently nibble it like a mouse with his cheese.
"Question number three..." His fingers went under your skirt and rubbed your soaking underwear. Horny girl.
"Does Daddy know best?" He slyly grinned.
He was rubbing it in. You averted your eyes and blushed harder. You would hate how he assumed you would cheat and look at other men.
You thought he didn't care of you but was just possessive of property. Now, you realized he loves you.
You smiled. Grindelwald blinked in a pleasant surprise.
The ice was melting between those breasts of yours. You were slowly accepting him.
His efforts were not for nothing.
He felt childish joy inside his chest and libido rising. His dick pointing up and wet as fuck. Maybe you might conceive. He will not use magic to prevent a child this time.
You answered yes with his name followed.
Using magic to remove the dish from the oven and turning it off. The older man removed your panties without asking you to lift your hips. He doesn't need your help. So, he ripped that soaking wet fabric and tossed it to the side.
"yeah, he always does." He inserted his long white cock and started pounded you stupid. Your fucked up expression assured him he was doing his job right.
You could be a good prostitute. Luckily, he found you before you could discover your true calling career. He knew you would have endless number one fans and customers.
He is one lucky bastard.
This is a one shot for i-d-91
I know I have been favoring Miles Quaritch.
I am working on dark Desires. I know how to end it and the middle. I just don't know how to start it without causing confusion.

The more I hear vaultghoul people talk the less I like it, which sucks bc I did initially like it and don't understand the other objections (age difference etc). Please think, for half a sec, about how goddamn racist you sound when you talk about Max and the canon ship simply bc you prefer to make Lucy and Cooper sexual. I feel like yall are gonna have a bad time in s2 and blame writing for not delivering what was never promised.
are you fucking dumb?? like sorry to come off as rude but "goddamn racist" is such a stretch. just because her main love interest happens to be black, the race has nothing to do with it?
what would be racist, is if I didn’t want Lucy with Max simply because he’s black. when in reality, I don’t think she belongs with him due to lack of chemistry between the characters.
Lucy and Cooper don’t necessarily have to be sexual, I never said that, it’s that I think they would do better as romantic partners rather than her and Max.
nobody’s going to be mad at the writers next season if it doesn’t become canon. if anything lots of us are at peace with the fact that Max is Lucy’s main love interest and they will probably end up together.
please, please use your brain before you show up in my inbox with the worlds worst take

I've spent hours trying to come up with something to say that won't upset or offend people but i can't.
I feel like a broken record saying this but, with all that has happened i'm not giving up on chris.
Why. That's the big question i get. Why.
When i see pictures of him from when i first started to watch his movies which was around the fantastic four days i see a vibrant fun loving upbeat happy man, over the years same thing, when he's with co-stars again same thing, he had a sparkle in his eyes now his eyes are dead a void of that sparkle i spoke of.
The reason her, she's dug her grubby nails into him and won't let go and yes i know it's a contract there both going through the motions, and now it just seems like chris is on autopilot just going about his day or night.
And they way some blog talk on here wishing him harm or leaving him ok fine that's your opinion that's your choice but when i see that that hurts me.
When i look at Chris now i see a man crying for help and everyone abandoning him.
YES HE'S A MORON FOR AGREEING TO THIS.
HE DOESN'T HAVE MUCH LEFT TO GIVE EVERYONE CAUSE SHE'S SUCKED EVERY LAST BIT OF LIFE HE HAD LEFT IN HIM.
YES SHE IS A RACISTS, NAZI WHO IS JUST LOVING EVERY SECOND OF THIS CRAPTASTIC SHOW THAT SHE DOESN'T GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT HIM OR HIS FEELINGS JUST AS LONG AS SHE GETS TO PLAY DRESS UP AND MINGLE WITH HOLLYWOOD ON THE BIGGEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR SHE'S ALL FINE AND DANDY.
But what this is doing to him and his mental and psychical state is sad so very very sad.
My mother may she rest in peace always instilled in me that you never abandon anyway that needs help and when i look at Chris i see someone that needs help but refuses to get it and thinks that everything is ok, it's not ok if you need to get high just to get through a industry party or fake a marriage to someone that looks like she can pass as your daughter Chris.
SO if this post upsets anyone or makes me look stupid and foolish so be it.
But it's just what i've been feeling lately and i needed to get it out.
We don't know what he goes through behind closed doors and we will never know it's none of our business.
I'm still a fan, i will continue to support him, watch his movies and gush over him like i have been since 2005.
This is my choice, my opinion and how i feel about everything that is going on. If this makes me look stupid to the other blogs i'm sorry i'm a sappy 48 year old women with no life LoL
but thanks for letting me vent and i'm sorry if this got long winded i tend to do that.

just passing by to say that i love reading your takes about the rop episodes! i really dislike the show but i wish people could just have civil conversations about its real flaws instead of just spewing racist crap like i'm seeing a lot of purists doing. since the show came out it seems to me that you have to love the show and excuse every single thing it does because the bigots hate it or else you're a bigot too. idk it makes me not want to engage with the fandom that much
yeah especially new tolkien-related content always makes you remember how many racist pieces of shit treat every racist trope he wrote like actual word of god, because they suddenly start crawling out of every corner of the internet :// and I'm just here like. I just want to not enjoy a mediocre show in peace and see what they're doing to my favourite fictional world.
(I am of course aware that this situation is not about me - a white as raw bread dough central european - this is only my personal annoyance)
(ESPECIALLY since the show the racists hate so much for the cardinal sin of *checks notes* having a black elf in it.............. has actually already contained some really racist tropes (rhun will never be free of the racism present in the original text, it seems)! not to mention amazon mainly cast POC as their original characters (arondir, disa, some harfoots, miriel being the only exception i can think of rn) in a move that I imagine was meant to not piss off the racists too much, because there's still money to be milked out of them. amazon don't think we didn't notice your spinelessness)
.......ANYWAY, I'm sorry for derailing this so much, rop asks always make me ramble
I'm really glad you're enjoying my posts! I dislike the show but I try not to be an Angry Internet Person about it, mostly for my own peace of mind but also not to spew bile on yalls dashes - I just don't want my blog that I have for fun to be such a place. So I'm really happy that someone like you who wants to see civil conversations about it feels that they can do so here, it really means a lot to hear!!
it's the same reason why I don't really go to the main tag - many people like the show, they enjoy the aspects I don't - and I know going into the tag is pointless, I'll just be disagreeing with most of the posts I see. the most sensible thing I can do while criticising the show is add the 'rop critical' tag so those people have a way of knowing that my opinions won't interest them either, and just... live and let live, you know.
(and leave the longest, most cathartic rants for one of my very best friends, who actually wants to listen to me 😂)
