OK SO (sorry I took so long to respond I was moving) LET ME TELL YOU THIS HOT NONSENSE. (Fair warning, this is a VERY long post)

SO. First off, I’m gonna quickly establish the Techno im working with since I think you already know who that is (/lh 😉) and then I’ll Explain Steven Grant Rogers.

So, the Techno im working with is fundamentally a lawful neutral character. He believes in freedom, in the moral obligation of someone who is capable of preventing evil to work to the fullest extent possible to prevent said evil. He believes that tyranny dictatorship is wrong and that there should be as little government as possible, and said government should be as democratic and free as possible. He jokes about anarchy, but his actions don’t quite line up with direct anarchy so I’m pretty sure it’s mostly for the bit, but he’s very anti-establishment. Techno is not, however, necessarily concerned with what is Good, so much as what is True. Violence does not necessarily equal evil, and he doesn’t seem to have much of a category for civilians when it comes to controlling the damage war causes, though he does quite firmly distinguish between “people who are my enemies” and “people who aren’t involved.” He is motivated by Justice, not mercy. This doesn’t mean he isn’t merciful: it means he doesn’t believe that he is obligated to be merciful. It means that any act of his mercy is, according to him, an exception to the rule, a kindness the people around him don’t deserve and should not take advantage of. He is unflinchingly loyal and viciously protective, as well as shockingly paranoid and proactive in preparing for any eventuality. He’s also a traumatized veteran and a victim of long-term institutionalized racism and speciesism on account of the Piglin thing, a fact that actually ISNT a headcanon! That’s not even made up! He CANONICALLY was concerned that people treated him like an animal and a weapon as opposed to a person and reacted to conflict and confrontation with the assumption that human characters were more likely to treat him poorly than nonhuman ones, like Ranboo or Philza. (I’ve got a whole other essay in there I won’t get into) ANYWAY

If that’s Techno, Steve Rogers is what you do if you take the same solid gold core and raise him poor and catholic in New York in the 1930s. Steve is religious, but it’s unclear if he’s practicing. His faith is an important core to his worldview and the choices he makes, but he’s not preachy. He’s lawful good at first, but I think his character pretty quickly looses that fundamental foundation of “I am righteous, because I know what is right, and I am doing it.” after he loses Bucky, his kinda maybe love interestchildhood friend and gets yeeted popcicle-style into the modern day. He’s loyal as a dog, stubborn to a fault, and, like Techno, completely and utterly incapable of allowing injustice or ‘wrongness’ to exist in the same space as himself. Before the serum he threw himself into fights with enough regularity that Bucky apparently would just… walk around Brooklyn in the vague area he knew Rogers should be and check alleyways for either a brawl or an unconscious Steve. He also believes in freedom, and in the moral obligation of someone who is capable of preventing evil to work to the fullest extent possible to prevent said evil. However, Steve is Captain America. He’s not an idiot: he’s portrayed as incredibly progressive for every era he’s in, but he fundamentally believes that the US is a good system, or at least the best system possible. He believes in the ideal of the American dream and said dream’s ability to inspire people to do good, even if he doesn’t believe in the reality of that dream. He’s also blatantly unwilling to take orders and follow commands unless he knows the reasoning behind the decisions and has been fully convinced that his actions won’t be furthering evil without his knowledge, and considering his history with Nazis and with SHEILD (the government agency that founded the avengers) being a front for the same Nazi organization that got him and Bucky killed originally? It’s totally understandable for him to be VERY wary of his superiors. He’s a good leader, but he’s quick to make moral judgements of other people’s characters and will stick to them until he’s been beaten over the head with how wrong he is, which is really just a subset of his “you find what is True and Right and then you stick to it to the end and you Make the rest of the world move instead of you” mentality, which is a very helpful mentality for a paragon hero! …. Until they don’t have all the information, or that stubbornness is used against them, or they meet someone who has a quality they think is repulsive or immortal. 

So all this being said…. Holy crap I wanna put these two in a box and shake them around like a stim toy. 

They’re both paragons, by the firm definition of the word, but in completely different ways. They’re both loyal, vicious, guard-dog coded characters, but Techno chewed through his leash and chose his own path (Philza) centuries ago, while Steve was just beaten and dumped in the river by masters he thought were kind, and is now snapping at any human who resembles them. Steve still wants structure above and around him, he still wants to work For a government, as long as it’s a trustworthy one. He’s just not sure how or where to find one, or if he’ll ever be able to trust one again. Techno is absolutely uninterested in that. They’re feral in different ways, and they’ve got very similar opinions about government except for Steve’s uncertainty as to how far exactly he thinks he should go and when, and Techno’s blatant non-regard for things like collateral damage.

They’re both the strongest non-augmented melee fighters of their respective worlds and they’ve both got a signature weapon that, despite actively being a Weapon, is meant to symbolically represent peace and protection. They both have rebirth imagery and close semi-platonic relationships with right-hand-men who are snipers/long distance fighters. They’ve both got a history with being made to perform, Steve with his propaganda and Techno with either his Chat or, in some headcanons, his time as an Emperor or a gladiator. 

They’ve both got (I’m taking some liberties with like, crossover X-men comics and Steve’s hatred of Nazis here) problems with people treating other people as non-human, but Techno is living it, while Steve is working from a place of privilege.

Techno, on the other hand, would not necessarily have the same experience as Steve when it comes to his early life: Steve is still, fundamentally, a small, disabled, asthmatic kid from Brooklyn, and the disconnect between Him and The Body is at absolute best a struggle he works his way through after the first few Avengers films and at worst something that haunts him for the rest of his life. 

Steve might feel his body is not his own but he has no experience with his MIND not being his own. He’s frighteningly intelligent. Techno is smart, but the Voices are another huge difference between them I think I’d find fascinating to explore. 

Steve is not the brains of the Avengers, but he is the mind. He is their compass, their engine, the one making judgements on and off field for the team, but he’s not alone: in good avengers media (Avengers Assemble) he’s working alongside Tony, and he has the whole team at his back. Techno and Phil are alone. They are entirely self-reliant and have been for aeons. There is absolutely no reason for them to understand or comprehend how the Avengers work as a team without some significant work to bridge that gap. Philza is a whole other can of worms: the hardcore worlds might be a form of long-term enforced or self-isolation, the hardcore life system might be shared by both Phil and Techno or be just Phil, they might assume the team can die more than once and be shocked to learn everyone on earth has only one life, they’re so old they carry scars from things they can’t remember anymore and traumas the Avengers are not equipped to handle. 

Literally everything about this dynamic is fascinating to me. How would Steve and Techno fight together? What parts of their political ideals would clash and why? Would they help own another grow or make one another worse? Are we getting post-Bucky-returns Steve, where the Avengers is splintered and Steve is truly disillusioned? Or will Emduo be present for the events of Winter Solider? If they are, how would they influence those events? Techno would take one look at Steve’s reaction to Hydra and know Exactly how much they needed to be wiped from the face of the planet, but how would that go? Would he bring Steve with him? Would he clean house without Steve even realizing and come back like “.ey yo I polished ur government for u. Hope you like it, it’s freshly de-Hydrad. Also half ur entire chain of command is dead they were evil my bad.” Would Philza have enough influence and wisdom to pull Tony away from the idea of Ultron? How would either of these characters interact with Peter Parker (Tommy but… a spider?) or Nightcrawler (That is an Enderman Hybrid. Why is there a normal enderman hybrid in this universe?) or Venom (ah, you fool. I’ve already got someone living in my brain rent-free, bold of you to assume you will survive this mistake). Literally everything about this is amazing and there are ONLY TWO FICS ON AO3. Infuriating. Literally the worst.

Hello!! Of course I do omg are you kidding me!!!!!!! I have a whole tag on my main @wisecrackingeric-2 titled ‘DadSerennedyAU’ if you wanna see my own spin on the idea!!!!! ORRRR if you wanna read something from yet another incredibly talented artist and author I CANNOT recommend @mooseonahunt ‘s AU enough!!!! And I know the lovely @geddy-leesbian has made some posts on this subject also!!!!!!!

But in terms of Headcannons I have plenty!! I’ll put them below the cut to avoid clogging anyone’s dashes!!

• First and foremost they are t4t. Sorry I don’t make the rules (also. Look at my blog name HQNAHWNEHDNDUDJ /lh)

• I imagine it was probably Luis who wanted a kid- we don’t know much about Leon’s childhood other than the fact that his parents died (the very wonderful @highball66 has some more information on the backstory we DO have for him!!) and thus we don’t really have a good idea of what his relationship with his parents might’ve been- but Luis is the TOTAL opposite. We know from context clues that he had a really strong relationship with his Grandfather, who went as far as to encourage his love for science and the unorthodox in an incredibly strict Catholic environment, and it’s implied on some level that Bitores Mendez had some hand in helping raise him, so I can imagine that Luis is very attached to the idea of parenthood and would probably wanna be the same kind of man his Grandfather was to him!!!

• Leon???? Realistically???? Probably a whole lot more hesitant- like he almost dies on the job everyday there’s no way he’d feel fit enough to raise a kid. But also,,,,, this is resident evil and also fiction where we can do whatever the hell we want so hell yeah he comes around to the idea eventually!!!!!!

• Luis is probably accidentally VERY clingy with their kid/a lil overbearing during the toddler age. Everything he’s ever contributed to in his life has either hurt others or he’s destroyed it one way or another- and everyone he’s held closest to him dies in some way. And going off of the first point, he’s probably put a LOT of pressure on himself to be a good Dad like his Grandfather was, so that usually ends up with him hogging the baby HCNNSSNSJSNIS

• Leon, again similar to my last point, would probably have the opposite reaction where he has this gut instinct to keep his distance- like he’s worried if he gets too attached it’s all gonna be ripped away from him just like Sherry was all of those years ago. But I highly doubt either of their qualms last for very long- they’d talk things out and figure out something that works for the both of them <3

• They’d probably go with the same middle and last name as Luis- ‘Serra’ and ‘Navarro’. I know I keep repeating myself but Luis had a really good relationship with his Grandfather and his culture/heritage clearly means a lot to him (ie; the intro to Seperate Ways), so being able to keep that little piece of his history alive would probably mean the world to him <<33

• And going off of that, Luis is ALWAYS trying to encourage their kid to learn more about their culture and heritage- teaching them Spanish, cooking them traditional foods, etc etc etc and when Luis isn’t there to do it, Leon is always more than happy to do so <<<<<<33333

• Let’s be real,,,,,,, Leon is coming up with the cringiest baby names ever HXNEHENDUXNXU CMOOOOOON LOOK AT MR. WHERES EVERYONE GOING BINGO!!!!! • Leon’s probably the one who does more physical activities with their kid- realistically, Luis is N O T surviving that knife to the back without some major lifelong injuries, so Leon’s the one who always carry’s their kid on his shoulders or swings him around when they’re playing etc etc

• I think Luis would be a lil sad that he isn’t able to join in on those kinds of physical activities, but he’d absolutely make up for it by taking their kid to work or teaching them general hands-on skills n stuff!!

• Leon ABSOLUTELY would wanna teach their kid self-defence as early as possible. He obviously mellows out and realises hey maybe teaching a 10 year old how to wield a knife is a Bad Idea, but with everything he’s seen in his life there’s no way he wouldn’t want his kid to know how to defend themselves at LEAST

• Wild-card one here but the three of them ABSOLUTELY take family trips to Madrid or other cities in Spain during the summer

• Last wild-card one but sometimes Luis will look at their kid and see his Grandfather so clearly he just starts fuckim bawlimg. Same with Leon. He sees the childhood he could’ve had and sometimes he’s gotta excuse himself to cry. Love these beautiful idiots

Aka just a bunch of stuff Ness calls Mike and how Mike reacts to it because Mike is lame and just says “babe” all the time /hj /lh (and there will be multiple parts because Ness will call him literally anything but I wanna go in depth anyways)

Sugar:

This is the beloved fandom one. One anon said it and we all just went “YOU ARE RIGHT LAD” /ref and ate that shit up. I imagine it started as a joke. After they start dating, Ness loves being affectionate and embarrassing Mike whenever they can, so they’ll often call him pet names whenever he’s at Sparky’s, and sugar is one of many that just came from the top of their head and stuck. I can just imagine Ness leaning over a table or counter as he greets Mike and he just says “hey, sugar, what can I do for ya?” And Mike is like “wtf did you just call me-“ and Ness just laughs and is like “what, you don’t like me calling you sugar?” And then Mike is just like “well, I mean…I don’t MIND it…it’s just a bit random…” and then BOOM Ness starts calling Mike sugar and it’s cute and silly and I love them

Simple, classic, it’s the one Mike uses all the time so Ness does too. Ness says it a bit more ironically though. Like Mike says it unironically he’s just a babe guy and Ness does say it unironically but they also prefer more sweet or unique pet names so they do it a bit ironically because I mean…it’s “babe”…of all pet names lmao. Def says it like “baaaabe-uh” just to annoy Mike.

Baby/Baby boy:

SCREAMS sorry I love this pet name I feel like it just makes Mike melt. It’s like babe, but it’s sweeter and softer and it just makes Mike soften up immediately. Like if he’s upset or embarrassed or something, Ness just has to coo this at him and his stubbornness just starts to melt away. It is often followed by physical affection. Also Mike has the transmasc trait of loving being called any pet name with the word “boy” in it so sorry I don’t make the rules (I do and it’s called projecting)

Handsome/Pretty boy:

Again this is just “Ness is super affectionate and loves words of affirmation as a love language” x “Mike is a trans guy who can’t help but feel giddy about pet names with the word boy in them”. This one makes Mike SO flustered, especially if Ness adds a “my” before it. He was surprised that he was ok with Ness calling him pretty, cause normally he’d think something like that would trigger dysphoria, but it’s different when Ness does it (not that anyone else really calls him pretty lol). Mike was just like “what” and Ness was like “what” and Mike is like “did you just…call me ‘puppy’?” And Ness is like “whaaaatttt? …nooo of course not why would I do thaattt…you’re hearing thingssss…(yes I called you puppy…is that like…ok? Cause it kinda just slipped out but I actually think it’s kinda cute)” and then Mike at first thinks it sounds a bit silly and lowkey a bit cringe but then he thinks about it a little longer and is just like “I mean yeah sure, I can be your puppy…” and Ness is just like ASJDKFHELK and then starts kinda treating him like a dog more in like a cute, affectionate, teasing sorta way and Mike just like doesn’t fight it and then yeah they’re cute shut up

They use this one pretty often lol. It’s just simple and sweet. It’s good for greetings, getting each other’s attention, general acknowledgement lmao idk. Definitely makes Mike smile :))

Ness just started playing off the sugar thing and it’s cute and sweet and yeah. Ness fr just starts sounding southern with all his pet names… (wink wink possible headcanon wink wink haven’t decided yet but probably will wink wink)

Well, now I feel challenged /lh /j.

I think that cDream being autistic make sense quite a lot BUT I definitely think that it is not a root of all / most misunderstandings - at least at the beginning, he was being absolutely challenged by cWilbur and cTommy and I think that he did the only logical thing, trying to protect his server and friends. So just to clarify, I did say ‘a’ root because while I believe it is a huge factor at play I do recognize that it is by no means the only factor at play. Along the same lines, you are exactly right, it is not just about him failing to understand or communicate but also largely about them misunderstanding him. It is very much a failure on both sides and assumptions made that cause this miscommunication. When I mean misunderstanding and miscommunication I mean all around. Though I also agree. As an autistic person (and a c!Dream apologist) I do tend to see it more as a failure to understand c!Dream and a lack of willingness to try on the part of the others. Because as an autistic person I am often the one without the information to realize that something has gone wrong. I may not recognize when I’ve broken an unspoken rule or when I’ve failed to communicate properly. But even if I did the other people have to be willing to hear me out in the first place and understand my actual intention.

And it was easy for them to do so because a) c!Dream is at a disadvantage to communicate the latter. - And it’s not for a lack of trying. But yes not only is miscommunication and the misunderstanding at play but also misunderstanding in relation to their perception of each other. With Massa going to trial over the 2008 results cultLH is obviously bringing up how Lewis should go to trial over 2021. Didn't Merc, Toto and Lewis already try and protest the results? I've seen reports that had they tried to appeal it they would've lost that so not sure why fans are STILL bringing it up. Then the argument was well Red Bull could've been in cahoots with the FIA - how would they have been in cahoots for one race? As far as I know they didn’t actually protest. CultLH turned on Toto pretty bad because he didn’t contest the results strongly enough in their opinion. Do I think Massa needs to be going to court over it…idk. But he has a chance of winning. Lewis would never win he has absolutely no case.

Also, even if Lewis did go to court and win, they would have to discount the result. They can’t just reinstate the last lap because what if Lewis had done a Russell and nuked himself on the last lap? He can’t prove that wouldn’t have happened. So they disqualify the result which leaves Max champion anyway. So what is their point?!

Okay, you know this is serious because Razz is actually using capital letters /lh. But seriously, I hate being a dick on here, but the genuine lack of etiquette and kindness towards fic writers has been getting on my nerves for years, and my annoyance has hit another peak. Rather than going off on the people who sent me the specific messages that triggered this, I’m just going to delete the asks and make this post instead.

If you want to send a writer a prompt, please, I’m like actually begging, take a minute to read their information. My pinned post has a link to my carrd, is that not clear enough or easily accessible? /gen like if it isn’t easy I will find a new solution, I want this to be mutually beneficial. I get less asks that make me want to rip my hair out, you don’t get snarky replies to your prompts, LOL.

Some writers have a pinned post, a link to a fandoms list, a carrd, etc...Is it actually that complicated to just check that someone likes the fandom you are asking for before you send them a prompt? I received an ask asking for a fic between two characters that I have never even heard of before, and I still can’t figure out what the source material is. I cannot write for fandoms I’m not familiar with, and I will not write for fandoms I don’t specifically list as something I’m comfortable writing.

Also, maybe I should put my fandoms list and boundaries on the same page? Because the amount of people that still ask for things that I have stated multiple times make me uncomfortable (parent/child tickling, bellybutton-focused stuff, “cheer-up” tickling, etc) is honestly insane, like I’m not sure if my boundaries aren’t clear enough or if people just don’t care.

It’s really discouraging to open my inbox and see it full of people who have no respect or regard for my rules. And oftentimes it will be followed by “I love you/your blog/fics” and, I’m sorry if this is mean, but I don’t believe the compliments when they are coming from someone who can’t even be bothered to check if I’ve watched a TV show or not.

Of course, whether or not I write something is not going to depend 100% on the fact that you ask for a pairing that I like or that you’re polite, but if you’re rude or ask me for a fandom I’m not familiar with, I’m not even going to publish those asks anymore, I’m just deleting them because I don’t want to argue with people. Plus, this isn’t just a writer’s issue, I see it happen to artists, too.

If there is anything that I can do to make my fandoms, rules, boundaries. etc. more clear and accessible, PLEASE let me know /gen. It is so discouraging and irritating for me and I’m sure that people who are innocently just making a mistake feel upset when I get frustrated with them, and I don’t want that to happen at all. i’ve been getting haunted by dumb past social mistakes i’ve done. also trying to tell myself that i have the right to be mad/upset about things that have happened to me instead of completely blaming and beating myself up for them. because maybe it wasn’t just me. sorry. long pointless ramble of “dumb thing that shouldn’t bother me but is bothering me again” so i can sort out my brainwaves:

like a little while ago in a discord server, before i requested people use tone indicators with me in my bio, i had a misunderstanding with another person in the server. i had made a joke and the person just responded to me with “No.” my brain immediately interpreted this as a cold response compared to how they were responding to others at the time (friendlier, full sentences). it didn’t help that i was already having a bad mental health day. i thought i had offended them somehow, so my socially awkward ass (who was still trying to learn how the discord social system/unspoken rules worked) decided to dm them to apologize and also mention that i liked their art in the zine that we both were in, because i thought it would soften the awkwardness and make it more lighthearted. the response back to my stupid paragraph of a message was just, “jesus christ girl it’s not that big a deal.“ which my brain interpreted as annoyed/aggressive. so i apologized for dm’ing because at that point i started really panicking. the person responded, “maybe think before you go dm’ing people out of the blue next time.” i told them that i was sorry that they had to be my learning experience and that i wouldn’t bother them again and that was how it ended.

except this stupid interaction keeps coming back up in my mind once in a while to haunt me. and i would beat myself up about it. because yeah, i shouldn’t have dm’d this person that i haven’t dm’d before. but at the same time, i wasn’t really familiar with what was “socially acceptable” in discord. i didn’t see dm’ing in the same light as other discord users at the time.

when i told that person that i was sorry that they had to be my learning experience, i meant it both ways. to them and to myself. because i know i fucked up, but at the same time, i wish that person had been nicer to me about it. and i wish they hadn’t responded to me with just that “No” that started the whole misunderstanding in the first place. and even though i don’t feel like i have the right to be, i feel angry about it. or maybe frustrated is the more accurate word. because i know that if i had been in that person’s shoes, which i have been, i would not have responded like that. and maybe that’s another problem with me: not being able to be aggressive and stand up for myself. and i guess deep down i was expecting to receive the same treatment that i give. in hindsight it could’ve been worse and the person could’ve been even meaner, but i think it was just a shock to my system at the time, because i had this rose-tinted glasses impression of people in that server being all chill. i got too comfortable and i overstepped boundaries. but i’m trying to tell myself that the way the interaction went isn’t completely my fault. it isn’t because i’m terrible and deserve the way that person responded to me. i shouldn’t feel guilty about feeling upset about it. my brain just doesn’t work the same as others and i have to learn to be kinder to myself.

anyway that interaction made me realize how useful tone indicators were to me, which in turn made me think that maybe i actually am in the autism spectrum. and here we are. so i guess i can thank that person in a way. but also fuck them for making that bad day i was having worse /lh (but also deep down kinda /s)

Tackling the bamjng real quick!! I gotta admit I totally forget to take pictures of a lot of my stuff unless it's for a client SOBS <\\3 but I'll definitely keep this in mind next time I get the energy to bake something/get an order ehehehe!! Only real reason I haven't started a baking blog yet is because I'm terrible at talking pictures 90% of the time and I already going through it running my main and this blog (/lh I know I can lighten the load and I have done so in the past)

Regarding the first part

Unfortunately I've had people try to form relationships with me with the sole intention of getting art/baking/writing out of me, which no genuine.. well intention of actually being friends/caring, they just want the thing but they don't want to go through the channels others have to.. which has unfortunately made me put the same rules I put on strangers on to my friends in regards to my art n stuff (gifts are a whole different matter, though!!)

It sucks, its happened to me dozens of times. Sometimes people will dip when they get what they wanted, other times they stick around in an attempt to get more. And I've gotten fairly good at telling when people are being genuine and when people aren't (more often than not fake folks feel/sound more like they're talking at me rather than with me, if that makes sense?)

Baking is a little less common though since its tied to irl stuff so while it does happen its extremely rare. ESPECIALLY since I've been selling stuff on the side (though I'm more lax with giving stuff to friends in terms of treats.. but that's usually saved for experimental stuff + people who refused to pay/pick up their order/cancelled)

Gonna explain all the math around PEMDAS so anyone at any math level can (hopefully) understand. I’m trying to use an educational tone, but if I sound condescending at any point please let me know.

What I will be showing today, as that’s what’s shown in the original problem, is known as simplifying. Condensing a set of numbers without the inclusion of an equal sign. If we were using an equal sign, we’d be solving, usually for a variable like x. Though sometimes there’s other variables or we’re trying to prove the equality of two non-variable things, but that’s an explanation for another day.

Okay, so:

P - Parentheses

In writing, parenthesis are a way of separating text from others (like this!), but they have a similar use in math. If there is math inside parentheses, it’s a signal to do it first. Like this:

1+(5+9)

They can also be used to represent multiplication, such as in the original problem, like this:

5(8-5)

5(3)

E - Exponent

Assuming you have no parentheses math left or there was none to begin with, now to move on to the next one! The exponent is the tiny number to the top right of a number or variable. A variable is the letter you put in an equation to represent a number you don’t know.

Just to get you reacquainted with exponents, take 2^4 (the carrot (^) and number is another way to write an exponent when you don’t have access to those tiny numbers! here 2^4 represents 2⁴). An exponent is a shorter way to write multiplication problems, here we are saying to multiply 2 by itself 4 times. 2*2*2*2 (a star is another way to represent multiplication for any elementary school students that may be reading this for whatever reason. These all mean the same thing: 2×4, 2*4, 2•4, 2(4)). So to solve for 2⁴ (aka 2^4) we do this:

But these steps can be skipped to just [1.] 2⁴ [2.] 16 when you’re more comfortable with exponents.

So, to apply exponents to PEMDAS:

M & D - Multiplication & Division

The math past this point is easy knowledge for most people, so I’m not gonna explain it, but if you need help just ask.

So, you’ve done all your parenthesis and exponents, or you never had any to begin with. Great! Now onto multiplication and/or division.

Let’s step right into it. Multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction. But multiplication actually doesn’t have any priority over division, despite coming first in the PEMDAS acronym. That’s why I put them in the same section here. Obviously they work different, but treat them the same on the mathematical hierarchy. If you are faced with both at ones, is where we employ the rule of reading left to right.

This whole time you’ve been reading these paragraphs left to right, right? Math works the same way.

First of all, just to get it out of the way, like multiplication division has multiple ways to represent it. You’re familiar with the division sign, ÷, but you can also use a / or write the numbers as a fraction (2÷5, 2/5, ⅖), and there are other ways too.

So here’s our problem:

Notice how I put parentheses in that weren’t originally there? You can do that to separate solved sections from unsolved sections, just so you don’t get your numbers mixed up. 1/3*3 would look a little confusing, and we want to minimize mistakes.
