never fails to fuck me up how navi had spent the first 17 years of his life underground in what seemed like an inescapable prison but even moreso the fact that soroz believed without a doubt that navi would one day be able to leave and that in itself is why navi never despaired. in amemoris file story navi just casually drops this fact like its nothing and amemori is absolutely horrified at this

navi does not see his situation as horrifying or traumatic because soroz raised him to be optimistic despite the odds and it's even more so because this isnt even the first time soroz has been underground like this. for literally hundreds of thousands of years soroz was underground with the remaining colossus doing nothing but wait and developing their own personalities and even though they were a machine it was the hope of number 35 that they could become more. soroz as they raised navi taught them basic survival skills, conversation, everything navi would need because soroz believed this to be their last stop and wanted navi to be able to survive on his own.

What's 17 more years to save a child the way soroz themselves were saved by a child?

luke asked navi to go to umbraton for his guild and now all i can think about is imagine how many people just be chilling on soroz when someone is just like “hey navi, let’s go to this place” and now they’re forced to hang out somewhere they probably don’t wanna be (esp the ones avoiding their responsibilities) as soroz is parked and navi is no where to be found

or even funnier, when navi is out with someone, someone that knows him, spots soroz and decides to board, so when he comes back, he’s like “when the fuck did you get here?????” lol

Reinhardt, for as much as she respects the lives of civilians and is aware there are things they cannot do--She’s also not one to just quietly take people consistently shitting on Illumina’s methods, as well as the sacrifices that are made. She can only endorse the enhancement experiments because she herself is a successful case of it, and as she tells Kaeya: A single powerful soldier can turn the tides and save many lives, if that difference can help to prevent more casualties: She can and will support the continuation of that research within reason.

She will also sternly and strictly tell people who don’t understand those sacrifices that they really have no right to be lightly talking about those things when they’ve not stepped onto the battlefield to see literal hell. Reinhardt has literally walked through the Dark Zone where most Aurorians can’t even function, and she alone was able to turn the tides to prevent a complete annihilation--She’s walking proof that while these methods aren’t the most moral, they speak for themselves and there is a reason that Illumina sees her as her greatest hero.

see there's an important caveat to this that I feel a lot of people miss: Navi literally spent the first 17 years of his life trapped underground with only Soroz (a giant airships AI) to raise him after narrowly escaping the genocide of his race

Like navi should be significantly more fucked up about this fact than he is and even then the moment he gets any sort of inkling/chance that there could be another Caelestite or some remnant of their technology/history he has full blown panic attacks about reaching/reclaiming it because he wants at least SOMETHING of his people so that they aren't gone together. And even further along when he learns about their dark past in how they once terrorized Astra with their psychic abilities, he's still committed to preserving them because he doesn't want this history to be forgotten and more specifically wants to redeem his people's bloodstained legacy by making a new one.

Case in point: Navi considers everyone friends and family because he desperately wanted friends and family. Soroz absolutely is irreplaceable to Navi as the being which raised him but he was legitimately paranoid about living his entire life underground without another flesh and blood person to interact with

However. it has never since occurred to Navi that to repopulate his kind he would need to. Have Sex. And even moreso the actual comedy of him not understanding romance or intent doesn't have to do with him never having been interested/never giving thought to it

someone like azure will try to hit him with every single seduction technique known to man that has made many a man and woman swoon over her and beg her to call them a dog and navi The Guy Who Sense Emotions will be like. cmon azure dont be rude what would your girlfriend jona think if she saw you joking around like that :(. youre my friend so i know youre just messing around :). multiple characters will drop so many hints through navis dms to visit them at night or that they love him and navi The Guy Who Can Read Minds will be like What Did They Mean By This...?

An NPC in one event straight up said Navi was a canonical infamous lady-killer among multiple gossip circles in all the character factions and his response was "What? I hope not, that sounds scary..."

[Barton/Navi Drabble] “GRANDMA“

“Barton, where did you live before you got enlisted?”

The Caelestite sat on the edge of the bed, facing the man who was lying on his bed. Yes, his bed. By now, he was already used to the Ilumina general visiting his quarter every afternoon. Barton had his own room in the colossus, but Navi could only guess that it was full of paperwork from Gannon City and the general had already had enough of them and decided that a temporary move to Navi’s room was the right thing to do.

“Well…”. Barton opened his eyes. “I lived in the orphanage just like other kids.”

“No, I mean before you moved to the orphanage.” Navi put an emphasize on ‘before’. “Do you remember your house or your parents?”

The man grunted, shifted his body so he was lying on his side facing Navi. “Why so curious, boy? Are you planning a memoir of me?” he grinned.

Navi rolled his eyes. “I have been wondering, since Vice told me that most of her friends in the academy were from the orphanage from different Undercities. Even she was raised in an orphanage.”

“That’s correct. It’s the reality for us, citizens and soldiers alike. Only a few kids are lucky to have their parents on their side growing up, if they’re not killed by Eclipsite invasion or die on the frontline. Orphanages aren’t the ideal place growing up, but it’s the least we can do to protect kids who lose their parents.” 

“I see…”. Navi took a short glance at the bright sky outside the window, then locked his eyes on Barton’s aquamarine eyes. “Oh, yeah. You always yell “This isn’t your grandma’s cozy house!” when you wake me up in the morning. Why did you say ‘grandma’?”

Barton’s eyes widened. He let out a not-so-subtle “tch” and turned his body so his back was facing Navi. “You don’t know what figure of speech is?” he asked, but it was obvious to Navi that he tried to change the topic.

The Caelestite felt a delight in his heart, knowing he hit a bullseye. “I know, but that line coming from you sounds a bit more personal.”

The man didn’t answer immediately. A slight guilt crept up inside Navi when silence enveloped them both. Admittedly, he was feeling curious about the lives of Ilumina children ever since Vice brought up the orphanages in one of their conversation. He wondered if the kids there would feel the same as he was: growing up without experiencing love from their biological fathers and mothers even thought they had their guardians to nurture them. He was grateful that Soroz gave him love and care equal to that of human parents, but from time to time he imagined what his father and mother would look like. How was their reaction when he was born? Did they cry from joy? Did they give him a name? A name he couldn’t even remember until now.

The Caelestite scoot closer to Barton. He stared at the other man’s broad back and white, long hair for a moment, thinking of inoffensive approach. Barton still didn’t budge.

Navi leaned in, lowering his voice to a whisper. “I’m sorry. I was curious about how it feels like to live with a close relative since I never experience it myself. I guess I got carried away and forgot to consider your feeling.”

Another silence. Then, Barton slowly turned, now lying on his back and facing Navi. Their eyes met and stayed like that for a while. Then, the older man said, “Alright, I’ll tell you about my dear granny.”

“You’re…not mad?”

“Just surprised that you made a correct assumption.” Barton took a deep, long breath as if he was preparing to let something go. He rose up to sit beside Navi, his gaze softened. “You see, my grandma…”

my navisona? she was 15 when Soroz snagged her and went underground during the Darkover Crisis. all her friends are dead but she still hears and sees them, thinking of them as merely elsewhere in reality. she got pulled out of the ground by Pact instead of Vice so she's deeply suspicious of both Illumina and Lumopolis, really everyone, but she distrusts True Order the least. doubtful of her own sanity, but under her paranoid exterior is empathy for everyone who's on the outside looking in. she's also gay.
