Sid as the father - this is a perfect SidSophie mix and I’m not saying this because Sid is my #1 candidate (also…bro kinda resembles tennis player Carlos Alcaraz)

Jesse as the father - TBH, I barely see a trace of Jesse

Ian as the father - I think this was a pretty 50-50 mix of Sophie and Ian

Drew as the father - if Jesse is barely seen in his AI son, then this is the one where there’s not even a HINT of Drew

I opted Charlie out since it’s been confirmed he’s out of the running. Also, it was frustrating to generate a kid for SidSophie and SidIan because AI IS RACIST. So yeah while this was for IJBOL, a reminder to continue advocating for ethical AI use and regulations on the side of creatives!!

But yeah. Back to HIMYF… I’m so sad the show got cancelled.

When Marvel does their inevitable reboot of the X-Men movie series, I’m lowkey wondering if they’ll consider bringing back the actors from the Fox X-Men series due to audience recognition. Maybe some will get recast, but I can see a few actors being brought back (namely Channing Tatum since he barely got to play Gambit and audiences seemed to like him). They’ve already shown a desire to bring back the Fox cast through Deadpool and Wolverine.

Of course, you’ll have the diehard fans wondering how that’s gonna work since multiverse/timeline stuff, but honestly, there’s an easy way to work around that issue. Marvel Studios could literally just do what they did with Worst Wolverine and say, “Yeah, we brought back the Fox actors, but they’re playing an alternate universe version of their original character so we don’t have to rely on the Fox timeline.” And we know that’s not a dealbreaker for audiences since Worst Wolverine was well-received, especially since Hugh got to wear the comic accurate suit.

And also, there’s another incentive to bringing back the Fox cast. Since age is a potential issue (Hugh’s 55 now and I’m sure Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are tired of playing Charles and Erik), bringing back certain actors would make sense since they’re young and could portray their respective character for several more years. I’m mostly thinking about Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt Wagner.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts. We’re still a few years off from any X-Men reboot anyways, but it��s still something I’m curious as to how they’ll handle it.

EDIT: oh, forgot another incentive. Saves time from having to go through the casting process.

"Watch where you're going!"

I scrunched my face, trying to figure out what the hell was happening as I got dragged awake by a hushed commotion from my living room. I squinted through the dark at the alarm clock only to be near-blinded by the bright green glow:

4:03am

I groaned, rolling over on my other side to see my girlfriend, Jane foster, rubbing at her eyes.

"Hey," I managed, my voice gravelly. Jane turned to me with squinted eyes, somehow still managing to make that cute. "What's happening?"

"I don't know. Did you hear-?"

The door to our shared bedroom slammed open, and I shot straight up in bed. Silhouetted in the doorway was an absolutely giant man, long blond hair glowing with the backlighting. I thought I might be hallucinating until Jane sat forward and spoke up.

"Thor?"

"Thor?" I couldn't help echoing. The man before us just beamed.

"Hello! I apologize for interrupting the two of you - I truly wouldn't be here if it weren't urgent."

I frowned, even as Jane sat forward further.

"How did you-?"

Before she could get all the way through her question, the answer popped out from behind Thor.

"Jane, I'm so sorry!"

Darcy Lewis peeked around Thor's massive form to pop her head into the room. I huffed a sigh and flopped back against the pillows. I normally liked Darcy, but not at four in the morning. I didn't like anyone but Jane at four in the morning.

"Darcy, what's going on?"

"He just showed up at the lab!" said Darcy, pushing past Thor even further into the room. "I was there doing... stuff with Ian, and he just appeared in a blast of light like the first time we met him."

"I need your help, Jane," Thor said, stepping in to pick up the story where Darcy left off. "Something is coming for Midgard, and if we don't stop it here, it will not only lay waste to your planet, but it will aim for mine next."

Jane sighed like that wasn't the most terrifying sentence in the world, then stood at last. I'd known her long enough that I was also a little too used to this kind of thing, so I didn't move to get up, even as Jane turned to me with furrowed eyebrows.

"I'm sorry about this," she said. I gave her a tired grin and a wink.

"That's okay. I know my girlfriend's a badass who has to help save the world sometimes."

Jane flushed, and I heard Darcy make a gagging noise at the same time Thor said "aw". I ignored them both, however, as I shifted slightly lower against the headboard, working my way back to being under the covers.

"I hope you'll forgive me going back to sleep instead of getting up to help you with this, though."

Jane gave me a soft smile, leaning down across the bed to kiss me softly on the forehead. I smiled up at her, the love of my life, shooting her a little wink as I nestled down among the blankets again. I watched her walk to the door, collecting Thor and Darcy as she went, all three of them stepping out into the living room. Jane shut the door softly behind her, and I finally closed my eyes. I sighed, settling back down into the soft, warm blankets around me. I almost got all the way back to sleep before I heard another loud crash from the living room, followed by Jane's whispered reprimand, not quite loud enough for me to make out the words.

I sighed, then flung the blankets off of myself and started trudging for the living room. Peaceful sleep was likely out of the question, and I should probably go support my girlfriend anyway. I'd go to the ends of the Earth for Jane, and that was all well and good, but nobody talked about dragging yourself out of bed to go a hundred feet at four in the morning. That was the true test of love.

As soon as I cleared the bedroom door, shuffling in like a zombie, I found Thor leaning over the dining table with Darcy in the kitchen, Jane hovering over Darcy's shoulder and trying to take a bowl out of her hand.

"I'm gonna make us pancakes!" hissed Darcy, clearly trying to be quiet despite how miserably she was failing. Jane hissed back in the same tone.

"No! It's too loud, and it's four am! Just come help me go over the stuff Thor brought-"

"I'll make pancakes," I said. Jane and Darcy both froze, mid-wrestle, and turned to me, Thor looking up too with a grin on his face.

"Honey! Are you sure?" asked Jane, letting go of the bowl and taking a few steps towards me. I gave her my best tired smile and closed the rest of the distance between us, wrapping one arm around her waist.

"Yeah, I'm sure. I can't just leave my superhero girlfriend high and dry in a possibly-world-ending situation with no one to make pancakes and coffee," I said, giving her a kiss on the forehead. She smiled as Darcy piped up from the kitchen.

"Maybe start with coffee first."

"Oh, definitely start with coffee first," I agreed, at last releasing Jane and heading into the kitchen. I sighed as I finally, successfully took the bowl from Darcy, setting it down next to the coffee maker as I got things together to brew a fresh pot.

Thankfully, it didn't take long to get a coffee in my hand, then in the hands of the three people crowded around the dining table. I took a long sip of my own drink, then got to work on the pancakes while the others tried to troubleshoot whatever emergency Thor had shown up with.

Based on their tones and lack of overall panic, I had full confidence they'd find a solution to whatever the issue was. Jane especially loved nothing more than solving a challenging problem, and every time I looked over at her, her face was alight with the spark that I'd fallen in love with. Even though it was four in the morning.

Finally, the first batch of pancakes was ready to come off the griddle. Thor wandered over to me as I grabbed a spatula and started serving them up, leaving Jane and Darcy at the dining table.

"Is there anything I can do to assist you?" he asked, leaning on the counter next to me as I worked. I shook my head.

"Nope! Just go ahead and dive in. I'd tell you to bring some over to Jane and Darcy, but I know my girlfriend too well to suggest you bring syrup anywhere near a project she's working on."

Thor chuckled and grabbed a plate full of pancakes, moving to sit at the stool on the other side of the counter from me.

"You and Jane make a wonderful couple," he said, digging into the pancakes with no hesitation. I smiled at him, then let my gaze wander over to Jane behind his back. She hunched over the information before her, moving it around and discussing theories with Darcy. My smile widened as I watched her, a warm glow spreading through my heart that only intensified as she caught me looking and gave me a gorgeous smile of her own. She turned back to her work, and I reluctantly turned my attention back to the pancakes and the Asgardian before me.

"She's the best. Makes it easy to be a good couple, when my partner's so wonderful," I said. Thor hummed, a comfortable silence resting between the two of us. Despite how early and against my will I'd been dragged out of bed, and despite the less-than-casual circumstances, we'd found ourselves in a little bubble of pre-sunrise peace. I'd follow Jane anywhere, anytime, especially since sudden 4am intrusions often turned into little moments like this.

Hannah clenched her fist tightly around the emerald gem before slamming it into the wall behind her. Her body slowly crumpled to the ground with her forehead leaning into the wall for company. He left. He left and she couldn’t stop him. She wasn’t enough for him to stay. She knew they had begun to drift apart when the war started, but she never imagined he’d defect. Her heart ached when it shouldn’t. Alisdair was just her bodyguard, her right hand, he was a convenient fling, not some life long love. She needed to pull herself together, her sister was still aching for a new battle. Hannah slowly used her empty hand to wipe her tears, she needed to focus on the war, Alisdair leaving couldn’t make her slip up. She needed to stop this feeling that her kingdom was slipping between her fingers, her power wasn’t diminished because some servant boy left her ranks! She sighed, leaning back from the wall and looked down at the small emerald gem in her hand. The gem had been a gift from him, to honor her rise through the ranks of her combat training when they were young, the last reminder she had of him. Her light blue eyes narrowed, she’d destroy it, that would make her stop feeling lost without him. She needed to purge herself of him.

Five ships I love

1) Sterek from Teen Wolf - I love them. They have a chokehold on me. I don't think they're ever letting go!

2) Ronan Lynch X Adam Parrish (Pinch) from The Raven Cycle - their love and their love story feels SO real to me, despite all the weirdness! Their love is everything... Somehow this is literal.

3) Destiel - I was there. I was there 5000 years ago. And somehow it's still going strong today.

4) Sophie Hatter and Howl Jenkins from Howl's moving castle - I love EVERYTHING about them but particularly Howl's dramatics and how Sophie refuses to indulge him!

5) Hannigam from Hannibal - somehow this is another ship that somehow never let me go! I love a good murder husbands vibe and this is one of the best!

I feel like Duke Crocker and Nathan Wournos (Nuke) should get an honourable mention because their ship has been keeping me company recently! (Thank you @greyhavenisback for your amazing fic!)

First ship ever - I'm very much of this internet generation so it probably has to be Wolfstar or Drary! And more and more as the years go by I am deeply grateful to the fandom for uncoupling my enjoyment of the fanfics away from the original author - and also to A03 who saved SO much and protected the fans around that early crazy time!!!

Favourite childhood book - I was in love with so many! Narnia was up there, Winnie the pooh, pretty much all the Enid Blyton books - I really loved the ----- of adventure series! The silver sword by Ian Serraillier lingered in my brain for years... I loved the Hobbit, Swallows and Amazons as well as His Dark Materials trilogy. All sorts really.

Currently reading - Physical book wise I'm reading 'The narcissist in your life' for work which is... Eye opening. And then for fun I'm reading... Well so much Sterek fanfic is not even funny. I've been meaning to put together a rec list. I really should do that sometime!

Currently watching - re-watching Supernatural (still early on! I'd forgotten how much I adore the early seasons aesthetic!) and when I want something light-hearted Im working my way through midsummer murders. (Because there's nothing more light-hearted than murder).

Currently consuming - red wine. It's been a Long Day and I'm kinda bummed out.

Currently craving - tequila shots. Or Mac and Cheese (but I'm lactose intolerant and that would be A Very Bad Idea. But also...)

I promised myself I wasn’t going to go down this rabbit hole, and just to be clear, I do still believe that Jesse will most likely be revealed as the father in the end, but none of that stopped me from putting on my tinfoil hat last night and rewatching the pilot episode through a Sid x Sophie lens. Here’s what I noticed:

Sid’s presence in the Uber in that very first scene is totally unnecessary. The plot would have worked without him being there at all. Jesse could have been the one to tell Sophie about his BFF getting engaged, and about the Beyonce angle, and about the party later that night. Sophie could have accidentally taken Jesse’s phone instead of Sid’s and everything still would have worked out the same way, plot-wise. Sid’s presence in that scene is totally extraneous and doesn’t seem to serve any real purpose... except to introduce him as soon as possible to both Sophie and the viewers.

Expanding on that point, Sid is arguably introduced to us even before Jesse is when Jesse says, “Don’t mind him [Sid], he’s just hitching a ride,” as soon as Sophie gets in the car. I’ll admit this one is a stretch, even by the standards of this post, but I still think it’s interesting that even though Jesse is the one speaking, it’s Sid that our eyes and attention are drawn to first. This fits the First Girl/First Guy Wins trope.

During the course of that Uber ride, Sid is supportive and enthusiastic about Sophie’s hopes for her date with Ian, while Jesse is sarcastic and dismissive. Later in the season, Sophie says that she and Jesse “see the world same way,” and I do think that’s true in terms of how they view their careers, but in the Uber scene at least, it’s Sid who is on the same page with her as far as love, romance, and relationships.

At the end of the episode, when they show the montage of the possible candidates to be the father, Sid is shown first. Again with the First Girl/First Guy Wins trope.

Richard III and The July Revolution

When I finally saw the Ian McKellan Richard III film I was a bit disappointed, his performance was great and there were interesting ideas to come from the concept of adapting this play to the 1930s.  But those ideas weren’t explored fully and the other performances were kinda dull.  

But my biggest pet peeve was removing Margaret of Anjou, now her presence in this play is it’s most explicit historical inaccuracy, the historical Margaret was not in England anymore during any of this time period, but an adaptation that removes it from even the pretense of being about actual history doesn’t need to worry about that.  As a story, her functioning as a Prophetess of Doom is a lot of why this play works and is why I’m glad the first version of it I ever watched was The Hollow Crown series where she’s played by Sophi Okonedo.

Thinking about the idea of adapting this play to other time periods got me to thinking as a part-time Francophile about the idea of using it as a framing device for a fictionalization of the July Revolution of 1830.

Charles X of France and this popular view of Richard III have in common being the youngest of three brothers who was more of a blatant tyrant then his older brothers and the end of his Dynasty overthrown in a Revolution that could also be viewed as more of a Coup. 

Charles was also rumored to have had an extramarital affair with Marie Antionette. Meanwhile he never married a daughter of Marie Antionette but his son did.

Orleans would thus fill the role of Richmond and everyone’s favorite crossover plot-line between the American and French Revolution the Marquis de Lafayette can fill the role of Lord Stanley crowning the new King at the end.

But here’s where specifically my Shadowmen interests come into play. The quasi Prophetess role of Margaret of Anjou can be filled by Josephine Balsamo the Countess of Cagliostro.  As a daughter of Josephine she too has a connection to a recently overthrown dynasty.

hi! thank your for appreciating my content! nothing has been said about rogue’s debut on the the mcu, or even the x-men’s introduction at all. they vaguely mentioned the existence of mutations on ms. marvel (2022) and patrick stewart’s professor x featured in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness (2022), as a character from an alternate universe, completely separated from the mcu’s current timeline. the only canon mutant in the mcu is namor, but his mutation was due his mother ingesting a contaminated herb, with no mention of the x-gene. besides all that, it’s know that deadpool (2023) will include 20th century studios’ x-men. hugh jackman’s wolverine is already confirmed. i believe famke janssen, halle berry, james marsden, patrick stewart and ian mckeller will be also reprising their roles. nothing has been said about anna paquin’s rogue. there’s also a rumor that deadpool (2023) will also feature an animated version of the x-men (either from x-men: the animated series or x-men ‘97), so it’s likely an animated version of rogue will make an appearance. there hasn’t been any rumors or official talks about the new x-men cast, or even a new x-men movie anytime soon. according to rumors, the estimated introduction of the x-men would be around 2027.

with that being said, i do have some fancasts for rogue, like madelyn cline and sophie thatcher. i definitely think that the actress who plays rogue should be on the 18/early 20s age-range. besides that, i don’t really have many exigencies, more than they should be southern or be able to pull a southern accent. i would be totally fine with a more unknown actress.

England’s Beloved Sycamore Gap Tree Has Been Chopped Down

Authorities arrested a 16-year-old boy on Thursday in connection with the felling

For centuries, the Sycamore Gap tree stood near Hadrian’s Wall in northern England, where it had been growing in a large dip in the rolling landscape. But on Thursday morning, the beloved tree’s crown was discovered lying on one side of the wall, while its stump stood on the other.

Based on the appearance of the stump, officials say the perpetrator likely used a chainsaw. “We have reason to believe it has been deliberately felled,” according to a statement from the Northumberland National Park Authority.

Later in the day, police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the incident. Officials say he is in police custody and “assisting officers with their inquiries,” according to the Associated Press.

When Jamie Driscoll, mayor of the North of Tyne Combined Authority, visited the site on Thursday, he was struck by how skillfully the cuts had been made. “It requires an awful lot of premeditation to do something like that,” he tells the New York Times’ Jenny Gross. “This is not just young, stupid drunk people keying someone’s car.”

The Sycamore Gap tree is one of the most photographed trees in the United Kingdom, reports the Guardian’s Robyn Vinter. It’s also known as “the Robin Hood Tree” because it appeared in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In 2016, the conservation charity Woodland Trust named it “English tree of the year.”

The tree meant so much to locals and tourists that it’s been the site of marriage proposals, picnics and many other happy moments; some have also had their ashes scattered there, as Driscoll writes on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“It’s part of our collective soul,” he adds.

The tree is also a favorite subject of photographers, including Sophie Henderson, who lives in nearby County Durham. She recently captured the tree amid the glow of the northern lights. She even used the tree in the logo for her photography business.

“I know a lot of people will say, ‘It’s just a tree,’ but it’s so much more,” she tells the Times. “It makes me so angry and upset that somebody would do such a thing to something that’s so special to so many people.”

Still, authorities are urging onlookers to “let justice take its course,” as Kim McGuinness, the Northumbria police and crime commissioner, says in a statement, per the Northumberland Gazette’s Ian Smith.

“Sycamore Gap was a place of happy and moving memories for millions of people,” she adds.

The Roman army built Hadrian’s Wall after the emperor Hadrian visited Britain around 122 C.E. An estimated 15,000 men spent at least six years constructing the defensive fortification, which marked the Roman Empire’s northwest boundary.

The wall spans 73 miles—all the way across what is now northern England—and is made primarily of stone and turf. It’s dotted with observation towers and forts, which Roman soldiers used to keep an eye out for intruders.
