Warrior Cats x FNaF Crossover!!

•My brain has been rotting since seeing the fnaf movie so I decided to pick up this concept after shelving it for about a year!

•Okay, for context, this lil AU of sorts is heavily inspired by all of the Warrior cats MAPs to FNaF songs!!! I love them so much!!!! Another huge inspiration to me is bunnycat over on YouTube, they’re on Tumblr too, but I don’t know if it’ll automatically tag them if I type their username…I don’t want to accidentally ping anyone- I’m so sorry, I don’t know how the ins and outs of tumblr… >_<

•Characters here are warrior kitties following the story of FNaF! I can’t decide if these fellas should be anthropomorphic or feral, so I have concepts for both, let me know if you have a preference! :3

William Afton and/or Hawkfrost

Extra bit: fun fact, I have so many ideas for fnaf x warriors that I have several designs for such crossover, so tldr, there’s another sheet of doodles of Ivypool for a possible pmv to “I can’t fix you” by the Living Tombstone if you’re interested! I don’t think I’ll ever get around to actually animating the pmv but it’s fun to imagine and storyboard!

SYNOPSIS: the one where yoongi falls in love at first sight on the streets of his city.

PS. ignore all mistakes people, thank u. I can't believe I even managed to finish and post this !

It all started one breezy Tuesday night—The first time Yoongi felt his heart leap in his chest because of a complete stranger.

The tune he had been stuck dealing with for the previous couple of hours was an endless loop echoing in his head, a desperate effort of his brain to solve his headaches for himself.

Being a significant producer-songwriter for many, he was often locked up in his studio for entire days, sometimes even weeks, but that's when he can tell he's on the verge of plunging into insanity—the irony of choosing to do the one thing he loved the most in this world—if he didn’t pick up his keys and his phone, headed towards the door and walked the tension between his bones away.

On his way back home that night, he let his legs bring him to a park by the edge of a vast river. It was fairly late into the night, but some humans lingered there and about.

He sat on a lonely bench, drawing some of the fresh air into his lungs before leaning back and making himself comfortable against his seat. Usually, he’d go for less crowded places, places where solitude spoke to his mind and put it to rest in the middle of the chaos his life was. That night, he found himself watching people existing on the edge of that river, where the water spoke the language of the sky and painted an image of the bright moon and city lights.

On their little picnic mats were couples sharing delicate intimacy and friend groups laughing and chatting amongst themselves, while cyclists drifted by. A perfect picture of humans basking in the moment.

And Yoongi? He had a cigarette burning between his fingers to keep him company.

His thoughts ran with a mind of their very own, he almost didn't notice her.

The stranger passed by him like the gentle whispers of breeze that played with his hair strands. A nearby cat caught her attention, she crouched down and petted it.

“You're hungry, aren't you? Me too, me too. I only had lunch today. Coffee for breakfast. I'm working on a new project these days. It's always hectic, you know? You probably don't. You're just a cute fluff ball. Wandering around. Surviving.”

Such were the soft words he heard the human say. It seemed like a natural conversation to any passing-by ear. He wouldn't have guessed a cat was at the receiving end if he weren't at a short proximity from them, but the simple interaction painted a faint smile on his face. It was endearingly pleasant.

Shifting his gaze to the scenery ahead of himself, he took long, thorough drags of his cigarette, and let his thoughts consume him.

“Hey, can I sit here?” He heard her voice again. Yoongi looked up, almost startled. The first thought that came to his mind was that her friendly smile reminded him of Sakura leaves dripping from the sky.

She pointed to the other end of the bench he sat on, waiting for his response.

“Yes, of course.” He replied, ignoring the way his heart dramatically skipped a beat in his chest, and the way the sound of the world existing around him faded into a blissful quiet once their gazes met.

She sat down quietly, her smell lingered in the air between them, and spoke again, “Cats hate the smell of cigarettes, you know.”

He looked at her again, the warm streetlamps kissed all over her features, giving him a better view of her face.

Her eyes, Yoongi thought he finally found something new to write a song about.

Regardless of the gentleness of her voice—almost as soft as the distant sound of the waves dancing across the shore—he glanced down at the cigarette in his hand with a weird sense of embarrassment.

“My bad.” He muttered, doing a quick job of pressing the burning cigarette to the sole of his shoe. Its once alive flame slowly died into a lifeless gray dust, before being tossed into a trash bin nearby.

She smiled, “It's okay. Have you ever owned a cat?”

He shifted awkwardly in his seat and answered with a short ‘yes’.

“Then you should know they don't appreciate it when people ruin their lungs like that.” She added, her tone light-hearted.

That made him release a soft chuckle into the air. His heart fluttered in his chest when she chuckled along, and then she proceeded to tell him that she too, although rarely, smoked as well.

“I always keep cat food in my bag just in case.” She said, bringing out a pack of cat food from her bag and showing it to him.

“Why?” He asked. He knew why, of course he did, but he'd never felt so at ease with a stranger before. He had the urge to initiate any form of conversation with the stranger to hear pieces of her mind for some longer.

“Because all cats deserve food and love. Especially the stray ones.” It was not hard to pick up on the shift that happened to her tone. The lightness that was once present on her features quickly faded into faint dullness. It almost made a frown of his own appear on his face.

She added, “Sadly, that's not common in the world we live in.”

“Keep doing that.” He said. “The thing you said you always do, keep doing it. Maybe one day you'll influence someone, and that someone will influence another someone. More cats will be fed and taken care of..”

The words floated in the air for a while. She smiled, a genuine, grateful one that gave him a sense of satisfaction.

The pair sat in silence following that. Neither of them deemed the need to fill the comfortable quiet that sat on the bench between them to be necessary.

An ‘Oh!’ from between her lips broke the silence between them. The stranger's brows tugged together as she checked her watch, and she muttered something about the time going so fast and her being late for something.

He never liked to admit it to himself, but he felt a tinge of disappointment pop inside his chest at the thought of her leaving.

He silently watched as she stood up and hoisted her bag’s strap onto her shoulder, then asked about his name. He answered as casually as he could muster.

“Yoongi..” She repeated, as if savoring the name on her own tongue, and smiled, “I'm _. It was really nice meeting you.”

And just like that, she was gone, fading into the faint chatter of the people surrounding him, and he was left in the park with a cat rubbing its body against his legs. It reminded him of her, the only thing that he had left of someone he thought he would never see again.

He made sure to feed and pet the creature some more, before scooping it up in his arms and taking them home. His mother would take good care of him, he thought.

The next day, he spent an embarrassing amount of time wondering if he'd find her warm smile and affection towards strays if he were to go to that park again. He missed her eyes, her smile, the way she'd spoken to him so naturally and so easily.

He was trying to push those thoughts off his plate and focus on his work, when she walked into his studio and introduced herself as his new, awaited co-producer.

The best part of it all was the excitement she displayed upon seeing him. It felt like he was reencountered with an old friend, except that an old friend wasn't supposed to make you feel like a teenager catching the glimpse of their crush in the distance.

“Hi! It’s you again! Sorry for being late. I had a crazy morning and just when I thought I was making it I-” She proceeded to talk, but he cut her little rant off with a gentle question.

“You met another cat?”

The small but amused smile on his lips grew a little bigger when the faint blush on her cheeks became more apparent.

“Well, yeah, I kind of did..” she trailed off, tilting her head to the side in embarrassment.

It wasn't hard for them to find a common ground to stand on after that. She liked to talk, the words kept coming naturally out of her mouth, and Yoongi, he liked to listen, and he didn't mind her talking his ears off one bit.

One day after another, hours spent in the studio together. It slowly became something very familiar to him, the feelings her presence gave him. They shared takeout meals on his uncomfortable studio couch and many cups of coffee at late hours of the night. The project they worked on continued to link his heart to hers. On days she would walk in with a deep frown on her face or tears staining her cheeks, she would sit on that couch and mope, and he would wordlessly open a can of beer and put it in front of her, then sit to work next to her until she decided life was worth living again.

From a stranger, to a ‘friend’, to someone he couldn’t stop thinking about. She was not only a good hearted person, but an incredibly smart and talented producer.

If feeding cats together did not push him over the edge of what he thought he would never come to experience again, then working with her surely did.

Sure, he didn’t have his answers. He didn’t know if it was going to be a long lasting thing, or just one more of those phases where his lonesome heart clung onto something other than the thing he loves the most, music, before deciding it had enough. He didn’t know what to do with the feelings that kept growing in his chest and the stupid butterflies he felt in his guts every time she so much as smiled at him. But he knew that spending hours at work and feeding stray cats became things he looked up to every single morning.

More importantly, he had a feeling that whatever he was feeling didn't come from his part alone, but it was all left unsaid for the sake of keeping a fine line between work and personal emotions.

And then it happened, their first, tipsy kiss. When they shared a bottle of liquor and celebrated the wrap-up of their project. The faint blush on her cheeks every time their eyes met made him feel like screaming at the top of his lungs.

He tasted the alcohol on her cherry lips, and oh, how he loved the taste on his tongue.

He thought he'd reached the peak of helplessness when he wrote poems for her eyes, but then he wrote some more for her lips, then her smile, then her hair, then her hands… and then there was no going back.

Aaaand some Petrigrof art I posted on my Instagram these last days :D (except GOLBetty that I drew today). The first one is a) me trying to draw them more in my actual art style and b) showing my headcanon that cats usually love Simon because he is, well, such a cat person to me.

The second image is more of my "Happy AU" that I drew earlier - just an excuse to draw them being Marcy's parents. However, if you want a little more of information about that (and the two different ideas), it's under the cut:

I'm worried about how much I'm drawing them - especially because I'm feeling very overwhelmed about art rn. But these two are still giving me motivation and, in my mind, if I draw them enough times, my fixation will be better, maybe quieter? Did it ever work with PB and Diane - who I drew more than 100 times and I'm still not tired of? Noooo, but you never know.

These are some stuff I drew in these last days! The one I want to talk the most is the first, who is part of the "Happy AU" (you guys wanted it to be happy, after all) where Marceline is Betty and Simon's daughter. In no way this is an original idea, I've seen many fanarts with this concept -and the show itself, I mean, Simon is her father!!- but I wanted to imagine interactions between them! Sooo I had two different ideas and idk which I like more:

The first would be closer to canon. How will that work? I... I don't know myself. I don't know what I'm doing, in fact, I never finished watching Adventure Time.

The second would be closer to a modern, everybody-is-human-AU! Like, Simon and Betty would meet like they did in the show, but Simon is a single father.

OKAY here's some more

Dottie, Viola and Daisy

-Dottie is great at singing and performing and knows it. She's the daughter of a wealthy family and a drama queen who loves the spotlight, and likes coffee shops and buying things for her friends. She opposes the organization her parents work for in secret. Also she has a hot pink car named Tiffany

-Viola is Dottie's girlfriend. She's cool and easy-going and loves playing the guitar and riding her motorcycle. She lives in the same building as Lilly and Yarrow, and eventually starts giving Yarrow guitar lessons.

-Daisy is Dottie's roommate and longtime best friend. Unlike Dottie, she shies away from the spotlight and doesn't like being the center of attention. She is an aspiring writer and loves reading, especially mysteries.

Greg and Natalie

I originally made them to be Amy's parents, but i love them so i exported them to Lilly and friends' story too (they're Sabrina's parents there). Greg is playful, affectionate and somewhat of a gun enthusiast, and Natalie is responsible, organized and somewhat stern. Sonicverse Natalie can summon a hammer just like Amy (hers is pointy on one side)

I don't have proper refs or anything for all of them but while i'm talking about parents, some quick notes about the main kids' parents:

-Anna (Lilly's mom/Yarrow's aunt): she runs a flower shop! Also she's Greg's sister

-Mr. Blake (Melon's dad, haven't come up with a name yet): he's a doctor. Also kinda nagging and overbearing

-Toffee and Saffron (Snap's moms): they're a cow and giraffe respectively (Snap's adopted) and run Butterscotch Cafe

-Helen (Garin's mother): thinks those with powers are freaks. Also she's the worst

On the development freezer

Sparky and Alyssa are my dearest beloveds and part of my original oc gang! Them and all of the kids in the og post (except for Garin, who i made in 2019) were originally my sonic recolor ocs from 2009ish when I was like 10.

I haven't been posting about them because i'm still working on figuring out what role and/or personality i want them to have to properly insert them in the story <\3 but hopefully i'll make some progress on that end this year,, i miss them

Bianca and Capitalism Jr. (I haven't officially named him yet. Currently entertaining Eric or Vincent. Maybe both. But until then he's Capitalism Jr.) are both sort of antagonist adjecent. Bianca is a bird and the daughter of the Big Bad, and Capitalism Jr. is a deer, a rich brat and a lower stakes antagonist (no powers, unless being an insufferably smug jerk counts)

Bianca gets introduced in the Later Part of The Plot i haven't figured out yet so i haven't fleshed her out much other than Vibes, and i'm still figuring out when and how i want Capitalism Jr. to be introduced in the story so he can be a menace (but like. In the opposite way from Garin)

And that's most of them! I have a few more but they're mostly either undeveloped or I haven't done stuff with them in a while and i'm about to hit picture limit nfnfgh so i'm leaving it at these guys for now :)

can you tell me about your ocs?

Ok so! Here are the ones with up to date refs. Most of them are superpowered 11 year olds

-Lilly and Yarrow are both tigers. They're cousins and the main protagonists! The story begins with Yarrow going to live with Lilly and her mom after his mother's death.

-Lilly is excitable and upbeat and sees the best in people. She's doing her best to figure out how to control her electric powers. Yarrow is grumpy and sullen and prone to self isolating. He has fire powers (but wishes he didn't).

-Sabrina is a serval and Lilly's older cousin (she's 12) in the other side of the family. She's a supporting character but she's there bc i wanted her with her cousins :) she's kind of a big sister to Lilly and Yarrow and loves teasing Lilly. Also she has water powers!

-Melon and Snap are secondary protags and Lilly's friends! Melon is Lilly's best friend, and Snap kinda makes Yarrow his best friend by force (at first).

-Melon is a blunt and strong-willed bunny who hates being told what to do, and has psychic powers she's very confident about. Snap is a chill and goofy snow leopard who strives to make people laugh, and has snow and ice powers he mostly uses for fun.

-Garin is a skunk and a little menace. He's a resourceful and fiercely independent runaway with trust issues who uses his rock and earth powers to fend for himself. He's initially an antagonist who's introduced a little later, briefly becoming Melon's bestie then her worstie and rival.

-Also he and Yarrow were childhood best friends up until An Incident after which they never saw each other again, which is. Kind of a whole thing

-Mr. Alder is a goat and the kids' school teacher. He's patient and kind and kinda mentors the kids when it comes to their powers, as he has powers of his own (he has plant powers!)

The first arc mostly focuses on Lilly and Yarrow, as Lilly is adamant to cheer him up while he just wants to be left alone and try his hardest to keep his powers in check. It also generally follows the four mains adapting to Yarrow now being there and becoming part of the friend group.

The second one introduces Garin and mostly focuses on Melon and her crime-partnership- turned-rivalry with Garin. That's followed by Yarrow and Garin finally running into each other again (Garin doesn't take his old friend hanging out with his new enemies very well).

After that i don't have a solid plot figured out yet! Just vibes and evolving character dynamics i rotate on my brain 24/7

"Bye mom!" Y/N hugged her mom before running towards her class. Her classmates were waiting in a line outside the huge school, preparing to go in. It was fun to see her classmates in the morning. It helped her forget about home and her mom. Instead it helped her think about all the fun parts about school - like crafts, and drawing, and most of all her best friend, Ajax. 

"Okay class!" The teacher clapped her hands, and the kids clapped in response. "Time to go inside!" Y/N smiled. She followed the kid in front of her, up the big front steps and through the heavy front doors. Inside the school there was a long hallway that seemed to go on forever. The walls were covered in tons of pictures. Some pictures had animals like zebras, while other pictures had pretty flowers, numbers and words. The Animals were her favorite though. They passed a giraffe picture, and then a squirrel, and then an octopus before stopping outside their class. On the wall next to the classroom door hung a bunch of drawings done by her classmates. Y/N waved at her drawing of two cats on the wall as she passed.

Inside the classroom, it’s bright and sunny. Next to the door, there’s a wall with cubbies. On the floor next to the cubbies there’s a huge rug that looks like puzzle pieces. The other side of the room has a bunch of desks for the students. In the corner, there’s calm music playing from the teachers desk. Y/N starts taking her backpack off, heading towards the cubbies. At the cubbies, she sees Ajax, a small red haired boy in a bright yellow shirt. 

"Ajax! Hi!" She grinned at him. Ajax was Y/N's best friend. On the first day of school, their seats had been placed next to each other. That day, Y/N had noticed Ajax drawing a ship. It looked so big and had so many pirates on board. She immediately started talking to him, asking questions about the ship. Then, at recess, she followed him around, asking him all sorts of questions. Ajax hadn’t really talked much at first. Their teachers wondered if he would get annoyed by the young girl’s persistence. Pretty soon, though, he seemed to warm up to her. After a few days they were practically inseparable. They giggled during class, spent recesses making up fantastical games, and worked on crafts together. They quickly became best friends.

"Hi, Y/N!" Ajax waved and smiled, a piece of paper with a drawing clutched in one hand. “Look at what i drew!” He held out the paper proudly. Y/N studied it closely. It was a drawing of a black and white cat.

“Awww it’s a kitty!” Y/N exclaimed. “its a spotty kitty.” she cooed. 

“i drew it for you!” Y/N’s eyes lit up. and Ajax’s cheeks turned a slight shade of pink.

“Really?” Y/N was beaming. Ajax nodded in response. She could keep the cat drawing? He was the best. They headed to their seats.

"Alright class, good morning!" Their teacher announced. They sat down and faced their teacher, ready for the day.

During free time later that day, Y/N and Ajax were unsurprisingly found sitting by the toy kitchen playing.

Y/N was sitting on the floor, bouncing a stuffed cat up and down. she was making loud meowing noises, while Ajax pretended to cook a meal for the hungry kitty.

"here you are, little kitty!" Ajax proudly produced a plate with toy lettuce. Y/N clapped her hands and meowed appreciatively. Then Y/N looked at the cat in her hands and sighed.

"I want a real kitty sooo bad. it's so unfair!" Ajax nodded, sympathetically. Y/N's desire for a cat was a common subject. Unfortunately, her parents were not giving in.

"If we were old, I'd get you a cat." Ajax sat across from her on the floor  and smiled. Y/N perked up.

"You would??" Y/N was earnestly looking at him.

"duh! We could name it..." Ajax looked around for some sort of name for the cat before seeing the plate of food. "lettuce!".

"lettuce the cat!" Y/N giggled. It was such a silly name. After a second Ajax started laughing too. Once they calmed down, Y/N grew serious. "Okay... when we're old we'll get a cat."

"But will we still be friends when we're old?" Ajax asked,  frowning. Y/N's heart sank. Would they still be friends? Some old people were friends but a lot of old people weren't friends. How could they for sure still be friends when they're older? Hmm… she knew some old people were still friends. Like her parents! They had known each other forever and were still friends. They were even married. She gasped. That’s it! Married people are together forever. Married people are best friends. Ajax is her best friend. It made perfect sense.

"I know! Let's get married!" Y/N announced excitedly. "Then we'd be best friends forever." Ajax frowned, thinking for a moment. He couldn’t think of a reason to say no. It made a lot of sense. He looked up, and smiled.

"Okay! We'll get married!" He agreed, happily. Y/N nodded solemnly.

"Pinky promise?" She held out her pinky towards him, expectantly. Ajax looked at her expression, completely serious, then down at her pinky, before reaching his own out.

"Pinky promise."

a/n: ahhh first chapter! writing kindergartners is hard, and honestly i'm not super satisfied with this attempt, but i just need to start writing again. will be posting the characters profiles hopefully later today!

Prairiekit is sooo colors. Shout out to kitties who are so many colors. Do you enjoy drawing those complex designs, or is it frustating?

I do sometimes but I honestly do not hold myself to any kind of standard when drawing these cats xD As long as you can tell who the cat is, I'm good - I've made mistakes with their coat patterns, or scars, or any part of their designs almost every single update so it doesn't even really bother me atp

how do you connect to your character? like how do get to know them so well? how do you pick out their likes, dislikes, habits and those itty bitty bits about them? I've been struggling to do that for sooo many of my ocs, and i'm also at a lost of how to design them. like i once had a clear idea of what kind of character they are, but i wanted to change them a bit, make them a little better, and i feel like I've lost that character and that character i'm working on doesn't exists, no matter how much i loved them and enjoyed writing an drawing them. this has happened with every single character i made and it just makes me think that i may not be cut out for drawing or writing characters. i look up to you so i thought of asking you for help

HELLO HELLO THANK YOU FOR ASKING!! So basically I took this question and turned it into a 1.6k word essay on writing characters and how I like to do it, so, uh, hope you enjoy!! and hope it helps!

OK!! character writing. How do you do it? or, well, how do I do it. I’ve got a few methods that help me out the most and are the most fun for me to think about. Here’s my big secret, if it’s not fun I don’t do it. I’m not here to do homework I’m waaayyyy out of school. I’m a legal adult. I pay my taxes. I’m not gonna do something that doesn’t give my brain the good fun juice. Anyways. My methods are: symbols, archetypes, and character inspiration. I use all these to figure out the CORE of a character, their very beating heart, and most importantly, what haunts them. Everything about a character, in my opinion, comes from this core and their ghost. Their habits, their fears, their joys, their coping mechanisms. So long as you have a clear grasp on their heart, you won’t go astray. Let’s dive into it! The characters I’m going to be using to describe how I use these methods are Alice and others characters from my webcomic—namely Edith, Hatter, and Rougina—and Tomiko (you know her you love her, catgirl supreme).

Symbols! I love using symbols, they’re something that can describe a character through metaphor, even without going into detail about their whole backstory and habits. Tomiko’s symbols are lanterns (specifically light), cats, ghosts/yokai, shapeshifting, and gold. They all work to further her character as a rough around the edges monster cat with a heart of gold, who uses shapeshifting as a method (both literally and metaphorically) to mold herself into what others need her to be. Alice’s symbols are hearts, eyes, and flesh in general. Try picking one general symbol (the ocean, the forest, the city), and see how specific you can get from there. Or pick a god or goddess that resonates with your character and see what symbols are used for them. Rougina (the antagonist in my webcomic) is a war goddess fallen from grace, and is symbolized with land and volcanoes, so I’ve used volcanic plants to evoke her. Personally I also love going through the tarot for symbols, assigning a tarot card to characters (of the major arcana) is a fun exercise. Which leads us nicely into our next method:

Archetypes! The tarot deck’s Major Arcana is pretty much only archetypes. The Empress as the Mother. The Magician as the Wise Mentor. The Tower as The Worst Thing That Could Possibly Happen Oh Jesus Shit. These can help a lot with who your character is. I’m extremely storytelling oriented, so it helps me knowing What Role a character serves in the story they inhabit. Another thing I love in archetypes in the Zodiac. Yes, I am an astrology bitch. The whole reason I love talking about my methods is my Sag rising, I love giving my wisdoms. But astrology can be used for writing, and not just for excusing and not reflecting on shit behavior (can’t help being a gemini!). The zodiac is FILLED WITH ARCHETYPES!!! From elements to how they function! The four elements (you A:TLA bitches know this), and three modalities. If you’re interested please watch Eugene’s Rank King video, it’s very informative on the signs. Also many symbols! For example, Alice is a Taurus—May 4, Alice Liddell’s birthday—so she’s pretty stubborn while also loving creature comforts. Tomiko’s birthday is August 23, making her a Virgo, so she likes being precise in her work. More archetypes you can look for are DnD classes! I love using that to design costumes. One of Edith’s recent costumes is very wizard inspired, since that’s the class I see her having as she’s very studious and driven. Heck, all of Alice and the Nightmare is derived from the character archetypes of the Alice in Wonderland characters! Rougina is specifically the Red Queen, NOT the Queen of Hearts!! The confusion started with the 1951 Disney animated movie when the two characters were merged!! Lewis Carroll himself said the two were different! The Queen of Hearts is an “embodiment of ungovernable passion” and the Red Queen is “the concentrated essence of all governesses”!! GOD!!! Tim Burton meet me in the fucking pit you’ll pay for your alice crimes. anyways.

Archetypes help a lot in costumes too, figuring out what kind of fashion they’d like to wear. You can start broad and get more specific with it (like going from a wizard type character to a wizard character with steampunk themes). Fashion is just an extent of character. What are they comfy in? Are they confident in their body? What colors do they like? Bright high fashion or simple dark sweaters? Ryoko Kui is a master of character design I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend checking out her work.

Another method I like using, specifically for Alice and the Nightmare characters, is what I call the “three trait method”. When I was in middle school we did a production of Alice in Wonderland (I was the White Knight), and too many girls auditioned for Alice. So the director’s solution was to split the character into three parts, and assigning each part to an actor. Her temper, her intelligence, and her innocence, all used in different scenes. Now I use that to think about my own Alice character, except with “polite, temper, and curious”. Edith’s keywords are “nervous, tactical, and intelligent”. Hatter’s are “kind, enthusiastic, and intuitive”. Using keywords can help figure out how they’d react in a situation, what side of them would shine the brightest. Hatter’s want to help everyone is his kindness, but overstepping his bounds can be attributed to his enthusiasm. Edith can know what path to take in a pinch, but her nervousness can freeze her in place. Reading the source material helps a lot with Alice characters too, which brings us to our final point:

Character inspiration!! The art of taking things you like and shoving them into your own characters and stories. DISCLAIMER THO!!! If you take things without really EXAMINING what about them you like, WHY you like them, and how you’d like to evoke that same love in the things you make, the interpretations can come off as shallow. Tomiko’s biggest inspirations are Izutsumi from Dungeon Meshi, April Ludgate from Parks and Rec, Power and Reze from Chainsawman, San from Princess Mononoke, and Mei from LMK. It’s a good cocktail of aloof, biting, vicious, weird, fierce, loving, and bright. Figuring out what I love about the characters and what I want to write in a character like that helps a lot in writing Tomiko. It’s also really fun in a sense for screenshot redraws and memes.

Music is also a HUUUUUUGE source of inspiration for me, I love making playlists. And even as playlists can change as characters grow and change, having a couple of core songs still helps me ground to that character’s center. For Tomiko it’s “Make Them Gold” by CHVRCHES, and “Nice Girl” by Ashnikko. Alice’s is “Headlock” by Imogen Heap and “Demons” by Hayley Kiyoko, Edith’s is “Warrior” by Kimbra, and Hatter’s is “Dementia” by Owl City.

Ok, we’ve gotten though symbols, archetypes, and made a couple of banger playlists. Next is something that can help write your character, the Big Lie. The thing that keeps them up at night. Their biggest fear, their ghost, what haunts them. What’s holding them back from their goals? What do they need to overcome? That can be as central to their theme as any symbolism. For Tomiko it’s the lie that her emotions don’t matter, only what she can do to be of service to her mother. Her arc is about overcoming her dismissing her own emotions and learning to not run away from the people who she truly cares for. Alice dismisses the literal ghost that is haunting her believing that that will let her have a normal life. Edith pushes down abilities that come naturally to her for fear that she’ll be exiled, not just from society, but the world. Rougina believes she must burden the world’s problems on her own shoulders with no one’s help. The outer character and the inner ghost can reflect, mirror, and inform each other.

Now, listen, sometimes characters are hard to get to know! Tomiko was lol. Quinn was for a looong time. And in times like this, I just, let them be. I listen to some music to get inspired, and let them tell me about themselves when they feel like it. And they will, it just take a little while. And a few dozen quick exploration drawings. But they come through. Also, try not to get bogged down with habits and little details of their character, keep their core in mind, what their heart is. Start broad and get specific. That way, if you feel like you’ve lost your way or the character feels different to you, recenter yourself at their heart and go from there. Or, if you find that their center no longer fits, don’t be afraid to change it! Characters are meant to be fun! First and foremost!! I make characters cause I like writing and storytelling, and drawing little comic for fun and me time. Sometimes characters stick around, sometimes they fall by the wayside. You really have to find what sparks joy, and chase your bliss!

So as long as you have your character’s essence in your hands, and you WANT to keep working on them and drawing them, there’s really no wrong way to go. This whole essay I’ve given is just a set of tools that works for ME, and I HIGHLY encourage you to find stuff that works for you! number3 is her being all white/mostly white which is... fine. we havent had an all white main protag to my knowledge unless theres a secret white protag in dawn of the clans?? i dont think moth flight is pov in the main series sooo probably not?

my biggest worry si they will give her eyes that dont match her parents. liek oh she magically has green eyes. i wouldnt hate it but i feel like theyd fuck it up immediately so here comes dovewing 2.0. but anyway sunbeam has white on her so white or mostly white is on the table
