Listen I just really love Tomiko, and his story, and themes, so, yea, have a comic, on the house

My favorite thing in the world about Rise Leo is that he acts Like That but then at any given moment he's almost always doing something that's like. so fucking clever.

Like in the episode "The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek," the guys are sneaking around Big Mama's hotel to steal something from her guard dog Gus's collar. Raph's idea of stealth is uhhh holding a frond over his head, and Mikey and Donnie spend most of their time scooting a food cart up the stairs. Gus sniffs them all out and they all have to be rescued by Splinter.

And then Leo does this

And it seems so stupid, but like? it's actually not?? there's a strategy here???

The other guys get caught bc Gus is an incredible tracker w a great sense of hearing and smell—which Leo knows from their last run-in with him. So what does Leo do? He eliminates the problem by purposefully sneaking up on Gus in a crowded, noisy, distracting room so Gus won't be able to hear or smell him. And it WORKS—Gus doesn't notice him even when he's right under his nose! He just gets unlucky that the Evil Sports match ends right when he gets his hands on the collar.

It's just. so endlessly funny to me that Leo's the one who gets the closest to actually completing the mission without needing Splinter to bail him out, and no one notices bc he does so with the air of a court jester. A little clown boy. He truly radiates the vibe of someone constantly flying by the seat of his booty shorts, meaning no one realizes until Shredder that he's secretly the only one on the team who regularly uses ANY problem-solving or planning skills lmao

I had a dream of CJ and Lucy talking about Ina and it went along like this

Lucy: if Ina? Where to jump of a cliff would you?

CJ:….

Lucy: CJ!!

CJ: i mean it depends

Lucy: don’t jump off a cliff!!!

CJ: I wasn’t planning on it

Lucy: but if Ina jumped you would?

Remember kids, the government will test out their bullshit on minor citizens and if that’s successful they’ll move on to adult citizens.

That anti-abortion trafficking law that says if you bring a minor out-of-state for an abortion without parental permission? If successful, they’ll try it on adults next.

The ‘Kids Online Safety Act?’ If successful, they’ll monitor and censor content for adults, too.

The anti-trans healthcare for children Supreme Court case that’s going on right now? Same deal. If they can get it so they can deny trans kids care, that opens the door to prevent trans healthcare for adults, too.

And if you support any of these for any reason, you support censorship and the state controlling aspects of your life. Protect kids’ rights because if they can successfully take legislate away the ability for a minor to travel for healthcare, their ability to use the internet, and their ability to get gender affirming care, they will come for your ability next.

Ok two things!

One! I'm curious how Tomiko's relationship with her mother effected how he is as a parent? Like it seems to definitely not be the same but then is it completely opposite? Does she over correct it at all?

Two! I was listening to the crane wives and the moon will sing kinda reminds me of tomi and nekomama a bit lol do you see it?

well it really helps that tomiko as a parent has a stronger family unit that nekomama did as a single mother. in that tomiko has other voices and opinions that grew up knowing what a loving family is to help her in that direction. however, she’s definitely more hesitant to share her side of the family history at all, not wanting her children to have the same stifling restrictions she did growing up. but that kinda backfires with hiro, who thrives with knowing history and having a framework to work with, and who instead of a shell inherited the neko shapeshifting powers.

and YES THAT SONG FITS VERY WELL!!! I SEE THE VISION!!! i also very much like “wolf” by the first aid kit as a tomiko nekomama song hehe. there’s a few first aid kit songs that are very tomiko to me, actually (“master pretender”, “king of the world”, and “rebel heart”)
