Oh,can I give my hot take since we're discussing the MK1 girls? Honestly, a solid quarter to a third of the roster could have been DLC, considering how little they do or contribute to the story. Reiko? DLC. Nitara? Package her with a couple Jennifer's Body skins and you have a Halloween DLC for the girlies. Havik? DLC. Kronika is literally just there to chat shit.

Also,there's certain storylines that if they really explored them, could get uncomfortable real quick. Nitara's tower ending comes to mind, considering that it pretty much implies that she becomes a human trafficker outright,which........honestly could lead to some interesting moral questions for her if handled correctly. But I don't trust NRS to do that. Ashrah's another one that they have to tread real light with.

Yeah tbh a few people in the cast kinda aren't doing much, but I low-key do get the vibe that NRS has a lot of love for the Deadly Alliance era characters, which is why we're seeing a bunch of them in MK1. I don't know if I think they should've been DLC bc we don't know what the DLC schedule for MK1 looks like but Sonya should've been in the main cast at launch. That was a huge miss.

Tbh, I don't see Nitara getting expanded on sadly due to the poor reception of her character, but Ashrah might--given her connection to Sareena and Syzoth, and that she essentially got upgraded to a champion of Earthrealm. I doubt they'll handle any continuation of her story with any nuance; given Johnny says that Sareena is Bi-Han's future bestie, and Ashrah expresses worry that Sareena is turning back to darkness, and that Bi-Han is redeemable, what they are probably going to do is have Ashrah and Sareena play a role in redeeming Bi-Han and stopping the Cyber initiative, and Sareena being 'purified' through the same means as Ashrah. Which is boring, but they're going for black and white and I don't see that changing course. But I'd be happy to be wrong and see them make use of the potential they have.

Just in case some of you are wondering "how" well - I made some instructions.

At the Fire Temple, after you unlock the bonus areas with the Cryomancer Heart, a challenged titled "Whispering" has a Klue: LAHTEL SPIL { Lips Lethal/Lethal Lips }. The opponent is Empress Sindel. Using Sonya Blade's "Kiss" fatality does nothing - trust me, I tried. You MUST use Kitana's second fatality on her own mother to proceed to the rewards chest.

So yes, this game technically does reward players for acts of incest, but hey, it also rewards them for splitting people in half crotch-first with various sharp objects. Have some perspective.

sonya blade: a total badass with a very particular preference of pretty pink powers, ghatani takes inspiration from their abilities like their rings of justice and their iconic kiss of death to manifest their pheromone manipulation into physical force, as well as a fiery post-effect that represents the flames of passion !

toothiana: fun fact: did you know that toothiana's original design is heavily based on south asian culture ? the movie unfortunately white-washes the hell out of her but in the books she's quite the compassionate badass, geared with magnificent feathered wings and twin scmitars. she's definitely an aesthetic cue for ghatani, especially with their father's association with colorful birds. also, her kind nature is something that ghatani has learned as a demi-devi.

santanico pandemonium: this woman's seduction skills is greater than any weapon ever forged ... and that's why they're on this board.

boa hancock: all hail the pirate empress ! a class act of using love as a weapon. with her ability to use her charm and sex appeal into a terrifying weapon against her enemies in both the figurative sense and literal via her mero mero no mi fruit, she's a great example of an offensive ghatani on the prowl.

mystique: there's a reason why ghatani has a high dex mod: when they fight, they're nimble, graceful, and oh-so sleek, and what better example than rebecca romajjin beating the absolute daylights out of hugh jackman's wolverine in the first x-men movie ? when the swords are out and the pheromones aren't helping, ghatani's going to put those years of gymnastics to use. maybe even give you a little lick of the lips while at it.

alex munday: the ever-so smart 1/3 of the cunty charlie's angels in the early 2000s, alex is a nod to ghatani's time in the corporate world, using their brains and beauty to make the best of their life. but they found that it wasn't enough, so now they use their talents to help save the world, much like alex did.
