My first non-newsie character ask!! (I think)

Albert:

One aspect about them that I love: Does everything count? Because this is my blorbo. I love Albert. Ummmm on thing I love about him? His sass. Sarcasm. He's such an ass and I love him

One aspect I wish more people understood about them: He is very impulsive, but he isn't stupid. He can get by without paying for his papes, he thinks before he agrees to the strike, and knows that they'll be able to... talk other kids into joining them.

One headcanon I have about them: He likes lamb because that's what his mom liked to make the most. They're his favorite memories from home. Some of his few actually good ones.

One character I love seeing them interact with: Oooooo... I love seeing him interact with everyone! I love Albert. I love him. Okay, but specifically... I obviously really like all his interactions with Racer. I also like his interactions with Finch. But, those feel like easy answers. They're the chaos trio and I love it. I also really love his interactions with Romeo! Jumping off Pulitzer's desk? Bro hugging after winning? They're best bros.

One character I wish they would interact with/interact with more: Mush!!!! I wish he would have more interaction with Mush, because Mush is so cute and calls Albert Red during KONY!!!!

One headcanon I have about them that involves another character: He's deaf in one ear! And I also like to think it's Oscar's fault :) I also hc that he's afraid of Oscar bc of this (see: he never gets close to Oscar. When the newsies are frickin up the Delanceys during StD, he goes around to mess with Morris instead of just walking up to Oscar)

Usnavi:

One aspect about them that I love: I love how much he cares about the people around him! I love that he cares more about Sonny than going to the country that he grew up in, cares more about Sonny than chasing a dream that he's been building since childhood.

One aspect I wish more people understood about them: I wish people understood that he doesn't want to go to go to the game to run away from the problems in the barrio. He is chasing his childhood. He's trying to hold on to this nostalgic memories of his childhood.

One headcanon I have about them: I headcanon that Usnavi is autistic (in which he will not stop projecting) he doesn't realize how upset and angry Vanessa is after leaving the club. He doesn't understand that he messed up, or how he messed up.

One character I love seeing them interact with: I LOVE SEEING HIM INTERACT WITH BENNY. THEY ARE BEST BROS. BUT ALSO SONNY BECAUSE HE'S LIKE SONNY'S BIG BROTHER WHO TOOK OVER RAISING HIM BC SONNY'S DAD IS A POS. BUT ALSO NINA BECAUSE HE SUPPORTS WHATEVER DECISION SHE MAKES.

One character I wish they would interact with/interact with more: I wish Usnavi would interact with Pete more!!! The potential for chaos would be amazing.

One headcanon I have about them that involves another character: Usnavi and Benny have absolutely kissed. They were testing out their sexualities in that 'but what if I am gay?' way that teens do.

Chesca’s Current Status

well it’s been a minute

I can’t believe it’s already 2025. I mean I still can’t believe I’m 30 now. I’m not sure why but feel like 2025 is gonna be a great year, not just for me but for everyone.

Lots of things happened this past year and going into my 30’s I want to push myself to reflect more and write more. I think it’ll help me sort out my mind better and just let myself process what’s happened and what’s to come.

So here’s a recap of 2024

January

- cleaned up a bunch around the house, reorganized my makeup space and had lots of fun training our pup Archie.

- we went on a helicopter tour out in Niagara on the Lake for the first time!

- we celebrate Mike’s grandpa’s 94 birthday at seafood lobster house

- met up with my uni friends for sushi and to catch up

- moved out of our storage unit

- posted a ton of content around our Korea trip on TikTok

February

- we celebrated Mikes 31st birthday at the Park Hyatt downtown (won 2 nights for free on IG!) and brought Archie for his first hotel stay! We also got massages and ate at Sotto Sotto (sadly Drake wasn’t there)

- bought Mike an Oculus for his birthday

- one of my favourite coffee shops, Coffee Lunar, opened a new location near Yonge and Finch, and I went 3 times just in February

- started shopping for my friends bachelorette happening in April, had to start early since we were going to Vegas and every day had a theme.

- got my 2nd engagement ring from our jeweller.

March

- did more clothing shopping, bought a YSL bag for the trip but returned it because of issues with the bag, bought a Dior bag instead.

- started experimenting and making brown butter banana bread.

- tried on bridesmaids dresses with the bridesmaids at Park and Fifth downtown and bought the dress.

- bought this makeup brush cleaner that burned my under eyes just a 2.5 weeks before the Bach trip.

April

- made some content around packing for the Bach trip

- got my lashes done during a solar eclipse, didn’t get to see it since it was happening during my appointment time

- went to Vegas for 5 days for my friends bachelorette. This was my first trip without Mike that wasn’t work related and was with a bunch of girls. Had lots of fun and definitely wanna go back with Mike someday soon!

- started making videos around Aritiza clothes and reviewing them as a plus sized girlie.

- my obsession with Sonny Angel Hippers started. Actually obsession with blind boxes started this month. I pulled an Apple, Carrot, and Grape hipper!

May

- went with my friend to buy her wedding shoes and I ended up buying mine as well, officially kickstarting my bridal era

- we upgraded our plateware with these pretty green toned plates from Muji, did not expect to be spending $350 on plates.

- the obsession with blind boxes and hippers continued.

- celebrated Mike’s mom’s 65th birthday.

- made a few batches of Ube cupcakes.

- toured our first wedding venue.

- joined a church

June

- signed our wedding venue and booked our photographer

- my friends bridal shower happened, which was also the first event I did as an unofficial wedding content creator

- Mike and I started talking about our dining room renovation and started looking at light fixtures and ideas of what we wanted to space the look like.

- took home mikes older brothers unused cricut machine to help with wedding related DIY’s.

- drew some line art of our venues to potentially use for our wedding invites

- met up with my friend for afternoon tea at the Shangri La

- officially created my wedding content creation IG page/ brand

- watched my parents dog for a few days while they were away on a trip in Chicago.

- hated my job and honestly was not putting in any effort, it took toll on my mental health and Mike and I’s relationship. He had continued to support me through it and even said I could quit, he said I could at the start of the year but so many expenses were coming up, I couldn’t do it.

July

- got put on a PIP at work.

- got an electrician in to install new light fixtures for the dining room and bought some furniture as well.

- did my first wedding and bridal event as a wedding content creator! Mike bought me flowers to celebrate.

- signed my dream florist/ decorator for the wedding.

- Mike grandpa passed away

- attended a work boat cruise party

- covered an engagement party at the Distillery as a WCC

- prepared for my bridesmaids proposal party, bought the gifts and rented out the decor, as well as bought art for the dining room.

- decided it was time for my to quit my job, so I went to the spa one more time on their dime. Had to go to the one at Park Hyatt. Also ate the Writers Room and just relaxed and reflected on my decision.

August

- quit my job, didn’t give any notice and just said FU to that place. I was scared about my uncertain future but Mike really supported me. He helped me bring my laptop to the office and spent the day with me. I even picked up bridesmaids gifts while we were downtown.

- I did my second wedding as a WCC and it was at a luxury venue in Burlington! So happy that she agreed to cover my travel since Mike drove me to their getting ready venue, and then I had to uber home. It was a super hot and humid day, but was a beautiful wedding!

- my friends wedding happened and it was such a fun day! It rained a little but other then that it I was so happy to be there for my friend. This was Mike and I’s first wedding we attended together, and we had a ton of fun.

- I asked my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids! Had an afternoon tea at my house and everything came to life as I had imaged! Mike helped me a lot with decorating and planning since I wanted to keep it a surprise for the girls.

- covered my first bridal shower as a WCC!

- covered my 3rd wedding as a WCC at a restaurant downtown for a viet/Italian wedding. It was a wedding with a ton of children involved which was so fun to experience.

- went to Fan Expo again this year and brought along Mikes sister, she wasn’t ready for the crowds but it seemed like she had a ton of fun! This year our haul was smaller but got a ton of quality stuff!

- celebrated my brothers 35th birthday in Hamilton with the family. There was some issues earlier in the month with him and his wife but it seemed like they were working things out.

- applied to more jobs, got a few interviews but no offers.

September

- covered my first out of town wedding where we stayed the night in Collingwood over the Labour Day weekend. The wedding was outdoors, in a tent, right beside the beach. It rained and was so cold that day. It was super random but made for some great content and was a good learning expedience. I’m glad Mike was able to tag along with me.

- celebrated my friends 30th birthday downtown. Got there almost 2 hrs late due to delays on the ttc….

- covered a wedding at the Drake hotel for a fellow filipina! Was such a cool wedding with lots of fun bright colours! The theme was just 10/10!

- got invited to go and make wedding perfumes with Mike in Mississauga for free!

- had uni friends over for a game night

- got an offer for a new role!! They offered more than I had asked for and the interview process only lasted about 2 weeks! I’m working under an experienced woman manager at an amazing company. I was super worried that they might rescind my offer because during the hiring process I mentioned I was still working at my previous company. Thankfully all went well and there were no issues with that. My manager sent me flowers, and a welcome package!

- we hosted dinner for Mike and i’s parents to meet for the first time. It was a lovely dinner and mikes parents gifted my parents a plant!

- I spent the entire weekend with my parents and sister to go wedding dress shopping. We went to 4 different stores and found the dress at the last appointment of the last store we visited. So happy and blessed to have had the opportunity to go shopping with my family. Though the weekends biggest conversation was my brother and the escalated situation regarding his marriage.

October

- Officially launched my WCC website and my rates!

- started at my new company/ role

- went on a brunch date with my uni friends at Maison Shelby downtown

- watched Culinary Class Wars on Netflix and visited one of the judges restaurants here in North York. The show was amazing, the restaurant was just okay.

- visited one of the bridal boutiques again with my MOH just to try on a few more dresses, even though I had mine already.

- since I got a job I started planning and DIYing for my 30th birthday party. I wanted to do a private dining experience and invite all my friends in one spot.

- got a much needed haircut and coloured my hair

- went to an pop up event with Mike that I was invited to from a connection I had from the Hazelton Hotel. Got a nice goody bag.

- Mike and I decided that we’d invest in a bridal expo for my business so we signed up for one that’s happening in January!

November

- covered my last wedding of the year at the distillery district. Mike was able to join me and overall it was a good wedding, though I finally experienced a videographer didn’t like me and always got in my way.

- went to my first onsite and met coworkers in person for the first time! Also got to go to a partner dinner at the Keg!

- met up with mikes friend and his girlfriend for kbbq, mike asked his friend to be a groomsmen.

- we sent our our virtual save the dates!

- supported our church at the annual craft show. Mike and I bid on Maple Leaf Tickets and we won! He’s taking his brothers (as his groomsmen gift) and his dad.

- went and watched Wicked at the VIP movie theatre in Markham. 10/10 was so good!

- Mike and I went to our first Per Expo with Archie. A coworker told me about it and knew we had to go! We bought Archie a fancy stroller so now we can take him to the mall more comfortably!

- took mikes mom and one of his nieces to Lion King, the Musical. His niece didn’t realize it was a musical until it started, she fell asleep half way through the second act, she’s only 7.

- ordered a neon sign for my booth at the bridal expo!

December

- got sick the week of my birthday but managed to pull through for my birthday.

- finally finished my onboarding at work!

- found our my brothers wife kicked my brother out and that he’s staying with my parents for the time being. Sounds like they might actually be separating/ considering divorce.

- hosted my 30th birthday at Oretta Midtown. Pulled off the theme and had an amazing night with my friends. Everyone loved all the DIY components I made (from the menus, to the coasters, to the match books) it was a great day celebrating with all my close friends.

- helped Bianca with her 28th birthday party in Kitchener. Mike and I stayed overnight at a hotel next to the restaurant. Had a good time helping my sister and seeing her have a good time with her friends.

- went to my works holiday party downtown. A bit intimidating since I had only met a few people from my department up until that point but it was a good time and made me excited for the big company gather in Nashville in January.

- went with my parents holiday Christmas party hosted by their Filipino business group.

- spent Christmas Eve with my family, my mom was sick so she didn’t go to mass, my dad didn’t realize that the pho place he wanted to go to for Xmas dinner closed early so we ended up eating at a wing place for Xmas dinner.

- spent Xmas day with mikes family, hung out with his nieces, played some games, and had a ton of good food.

- went Boxing Day shopping at Yorkdale and picked up a few things with the Xmas money/gift cards we got. Bought some discounted Christmas items for next year.

- spent a day with Mikes extended family for Christmas/ holiday potluck party. I made my very first charcuterie board and had a ton of fun playing all the games they had set up. My team even won!

- had my uni friends over for a get together at our place. Caught up with a friend who had just come back from Japan and play a few board games.

- Found out that my brothers wife was pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. Apparently it was a cryptic pregnancy and she didn’t know she was pregnant.

- spent New Year’s Eve at home with Mike. We started planning out our booth set up for the bridal show, we ordered sushi for dinner, and we wrote letters to our future self, like we did when we went to Korea, as the ball was dropping. We got the letters we wrote when we were in Korea in December since Canada post went on strike at the end of November.

And now it’s 2025!

Man what a year. I’m so proud of everything I accomplished, for all the new things I did, for putting myself in new environments, and for doing things for myself, even though it was scary.

I’m so lucky to have Mike in my life as he’s really helped me get to where I am today. He supported me, encouraged me, and dealt with my craziness this years I’m so grateful to have him in my life. So excited to get married this year!

I finished watching Netflix’s new series, Love, Death, and Robots, (or maybe more accurately Love, Death, and Violent Misogyny) and it made me think about how there’s an important conversation to be had about the difference between sexual violence and sexualized violence, and how insidious copious amounts of sexualized violence is, especially when just like sexual violence women are overwhelmingly the target

Warning: this post contains descriptions of sexualized violence, descriptions of gore, and discussion of sexual assault

We all probably know what sexual violence is, it’s sexual assault and any sort of forced or unwanted sexual acts or contact. It’s usually done as an assertion of power over the victim.

But what is sexualized violence and how is it different? A good and prominent example of this that most of us have probably seen and are aware of is present in slasher films starting in the 70′s and up until now. Usually it involves a woman who’s young, sexy, conventionally attractive. She’s in the middle of changing, or naked just because, or she just engaged in a consensual sex, and then BAM the killer shows up and brutually gores her, she’s screaming, there’s blood, and probably a shot of her nude body and exposed breasts while she’s being gored and brutalized. It other words, sexualized violence is violence made sexy, with it almost always being women who the violence is against that’s being made sexy and gazey.

In Love, Death, and Robots there’s copious amounts of sexualized violence, which is incredibly insidious from a show that appears to try to be angling itself as “girl power / empowering for women” in some of the episodes. It’s especially disgusting and insidious because this show also felt like it tries to appeal to adolescent boys, a lot of media that tries to appeal to adolescent boys just love Love, Death, and Robots has copious amounts of sexualized violence, it’s so insidious because it’s coding boys from a young age to associate violence and brutality against women with sexiness, and when it’s a repeated theme again and again and again in many different shows, movies, and games you can see how this could have a great deal of influence on the sexuality of adolescent boys. Then look at the rates of women who are murdered by sexual partners, ex sexual partners, or just men who were sexually attracted to them and you might be able to piece together why copious amounts of sexualized violence against women in the media is a fucking problem when we’re coding young boys to see brutality and violence against women as sexy.

I mean, think of Pavlov’s Dog and the power of association. When it’s a repeated theme again and again and again in media, which sexualized violence is, we’re trained to associate the arousal of seeing a young and conventionally attractive nude woman on screen with the gore and brutality that inevitably ensues in a lot of media, such as your typical slasher film or in this case Love, Death, and Robots.

Adult men are not immune to this either, so yes Love, Death, and Robots has a MA rating for adults, but adolescent boys aren’t the only ones I’m worried about. Besides, how many 14-17 year old boys have their parents supervising every little bit of media they consume and making sure their kids don’t watch any mature content?

Sonnie’s edge was particularly insidious because of how it appears to wear a cloak of a “girl power” episode, but we have two women who begin to engage in consensual sexual touching, one gets half nude and there’s a lot of shots of her exposed breasts, and then when the audience is titillated suddenly there’s gore and violence against one of these women, then not too long after the half nude woman with exposed breasts gets gored as well.

The Witness was just bad and gratuitous, the whole episode is a half naked, and then suddenly for “plot” reasons completely naked woman (a young, thin, conventionally attractive woman at that) being chased around by a man trying to murder her, of course he’s fully clothed, while she’s running in fear for her life with her exposed breasts wobbling around, and plenty of shots of said exposed breasts wobbling as she’s terrified and running for her life from a (fully clothed) man trying to kill her. How is that not insidious and gratuitous?

In Beyond the Aquila Rift we have a very graphic and detailed sex scene, then only a few moments later we see the male protagonist shoving and slamming the woman up against the wall we were just graphically shown him having sex with, oh but it’s actually “okay” because she’s just an alien manipulating his mind. Actually, that brings up another trope I’ve noticed that I think is worth dissecting, how much we see this theme in media of where a man is physically aggressive with a woman he’s dating/married to/sleeping with but it’s justified by the plot because she’s secretly an alien/monster/spirit or w/e, and how this might normalize IRL men being physically aggressive with sexual partners because there’s some reason it’s “justifiable”

The worst and most disgusting example was in The Secret War. The only women we see the entire episode are mutilated corpses, the only speaking characters who are alive and have any dignity and plot other than being a mutilated corpse are men. In the beginning of the episode we see very brief shots of mutilated peasant women scattered around, but at least they’re clothed like the male characters are. The most upsetting and disgusting part was halfway through the episode we see the nude corpse of a woman, her body fits conventional standards of sex appeal, she’s clearly young and skinny with large breasts, but she’s a mutilated corpse with her entrails hanging out, she’s tied up and restrained in a way reminiscent of sexual bondage with her legs tied spread eagle apart but wrists bound together. We get plenty of shots of her large exposed breasts, but also her entrails hanging out. I was too upset and disgusted that the only woman we see for more than a second in the entire episode is the tied up mutilated corpse of a young skinny large breasted woman that I couldn’t even fucking finish the episode. Fuck that. Most of the warnings I see for this episode only mention the gore, but fail to mention the specific misogynistic implications of having an episode where the only women shown are mutilated corpses and in one case the unnecessarily nude mutilated tied up corpse of a young skinny busty woman.

Shit I feel like it would have been less misogynistic to have just not shown any women at all the entire episode than to only show one woman, and she’s nude, and tied up, and mutilated, and dead. Fuck, how much does whoever made The Secret War hate women?

Can you imagine the male tears and outcry if an episode only showed women the entire episode, and the one shot we get of a man the entire episode it’s the corpse of a young and conventionally attractive man, we get plenty of shots of his glistening chiseled abs and ass, and also see he’s been violently gored and has his entrails hanging out, meanwhile living and clothed women stand around him and get plot and personalities and dignity? Can you fucking imagine that ever even being made in the first place?

This show might be trying to angle itself as “girl power” in certain episodes but with all the gratuitous sexualized violence, I’m not buying it. It’s actually deeply misogynistic and gratuitous. An especially big FUCK YOU to whoever is responsible for making the misogynistic garbage that is The Secret War

The only episodes I can really recommend if you really want to watch it are Three Robots, Lucky 13, Zima Blue, and Fish Night.

Hello. I'm totally procrastinating and had a random thought - do you think the SVU Detectives and the loveable ADA Barba have any fears/phobias like for example spiders, heights or maybe even snakes?

Understand they 'catch bad guys' for a living but I like the idea that say Sonny has a dislike of clowns or I think there is an episode where Fin's scared of puppets 😆

ADA Rafael Barba- His phobia is mysophobia or the fear of germs. Not only is he neat and tidy, but he is also a clean freak, almost obsessively. He always carries alcohol hand sanitizer, has disinfecting wipes in his desk drawer, and washes his hands frequently. When Covid hit and everyone was required to wear a mask, he had personalized ones that matched his suits.

ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, Jr.- Sonny has pediophobia or the fear of dolls. It stems from his older sisters telling him scary stories when he was little. They said the old dolls his mom had on display would come alive at night and try to steal his eyes. Sonny still gets chills when he sees a porcelain doll or one of the dolls that opens and closes its eyes. He’ll avoid the doll aisle at all costs.

ADA Peter Stone- Peter’s phobia is autophobia or fear of being alone. His mom left when he was young, his dad worked all the time and his sister was institutionalized. He has felt alone most of his life. To not feel alone he fills his time with random women and alcohol.

Captain Olivia Benson- Liv’s phobia is sciophobia or fear of shadows. Even when she was little she was afraid of shadows. As an adult, she knows what can lurk in the shadows: physically and mentally.

Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola- He has a fear of puppets or pupaphobia. There’s not really a back story with this one. They just creep him out.

Sergeant Michael Dodds- He has atychiphobia or a fear of failure. I mean if your father is William Dodds and you’re the golden child you don’t have a greater feat than failure.

Detective Amanda Rollisi- Amanda has cherophobia or fear of happiness. Every time she’s been happy something happens to derail it. It’s one reason she taints relationships.

Detective Nicolas Amaro- Nick’s fear is nyctophobia or fear of darkness. When he was a child his dad would always come home late and drunk. Nick would lay in the dark listening to his dad abuse his mom. He still has a nightlight in every room of his house.

Detective John Munch- His fear is politicophobia or fear of government. Really no explanation is needed here.

Detective Elliot Stabler- Elliot has alektorophobia or fear of chickens. His grandparents had a farm when he was little. The rooster would chase him and usually peck him, drawing blood.

Dr. Melinda Warren- Chief Medical Examiner- She has frigophobia or fear of becoming too cold. Melinda’s first autopsy case was a person that froze to death. It’s stuck with her since.

Detective Katriona “Kat” Tamin- Her phobia is sparkalaphobia or fear of glitter. Kat’s mom would dress her in glitter, sequins, and girly clothing. Now, she shies away from anything that triggers her fear. You don’t need sparkles and frills to be feminine.

Detective Joseph Velasco- Joseph has merinthophobia or fear of being tied up. This phobia developed later in life. He had a one-night stand that went a little awry. Joe’s date tied him to the bed frame, blindfolded him, and left. He had to wait for his roommate to come home to untie him.

George Huang, M.D.- George’s fear is ornithophobia or fear of birds. When he was growing up his mother had a houseful of birds of different types: macaws, parakeets, and finches just to name a few. All they did was squawk, peck at him when he tried to pet them, and poop around the house.

Captain Donald Cragen- Donald’s fear is stenophobia or fear of narrow spaces. He doesn’t really know why. Nothing traumatic has ever happened.

Detective Brian Cassidy- Brian has staurophobia or fear of the crucifix. He was a Catholic growing up. Even went to a Catholic school. Brian got into trouble a lot resulting in getting paddled. Now seeing the crucifix brings back bad memories.

akito’s spirits aren’t high this year, and the lack of effort he puts into his bat costume makes that quite clear to see ( though he thinks he’s clever, being able to wear regular clothes simply black in colour, able to call it a costume upon putting on his homemade bat wings ). while he’s in no mood to actually celebrate the event, he does find himself escorting momoko to the halloween spooktacular. he supposes he better make the most of the one night she allows him to fill himself up with nothing but candy.

bo turner ✧

while bo is usually the first to show up to the hottest halloween party, this year he’s in no hurry to leave the safety of his basement apartment. instead, he spends the few days prior crafting his princess leia costume out of one of their white sheets, he picks up plenty of halloween candy and movies for them to watch when he’s working at showtime the day before, and he convinces ian into the han solo costume he’s sorted out using items of clothing they already own. despite this year being different from usual, it’s one of the best halloween nights he’s ever had.

carrie flowers ✧

carrie used to love halloween, always looking forward to the one special night where she got to pretend to be someone else and have that be okay. in recent years, however, it was always another day. she’s let friends drag her out to the halloween spooktacular the past three years, and after always being relentlessly teased about never coming in costume, she’s finally returned to her halloween loving ways, going all out on her catwoman costume. she hopes to win first prize.

conrad collins ✧

conrad is excited for the spooktacular after having missed so much of the fall fest due to work. he had very little time to prepare a costume, and after deciding against a sexy grocer or high school footballer ( both costumes being too lazy, he figures ) he steals a sheet from his sister, cuts holes in it, and he’s off to have what he hopes is the best halloween night ever ( something he feels like he deserves after working and studying so much ).

corey windsor ✧

corey’s never celebrated halloween, never being allowed to go trick or treat as a kid, and never having enough confidence to attend parties or even the spooktacular once he got older and started calling his own shots. this year, he’s really trying to branch out, really trying to make the most of what he has while he’s got it. though he doesn’t dress up for the event, he finds himself at the commune to celebrate for the first time in his life. he’s excited for what the night has in store for him, and feels hopeful, like this is a really positive change in his life.

desi calderon ✧

desi’s working security for the halloween spooktacular, which is something he doesn’t mind too much as he’s at least glad the town is branching out and hiring more people to protect the residents. he’s also glad that he has an excuse not to dress up ( because under no circumstances would he ). thankfully he only has to work the first half of the event, which gives him time to have a few drinks with his friends before he returns home and gets to bed before too much trouble can occur.

duckie ho ✧

halloween has always been a big event for duckie, and it’s no different this year even despite the horrific events happening throughout the town. he goes all out on his costume ( as he always does ) and hopes it will win him a prize in the costume competition at this year’s halloween spooktacular; he doesn’t really care for the prize, as much as he tries for it, it’s only the attention he’s after.

eilonwy finch ✧

eilonwy can’t stomach the fact that people are going out on halloween at a time like this. she plans to spend her night locked safely inside, reading some of her favourite books to take her mind off of things; but eventually the worry gets to be too much. she feels the need to protect her friends, feels the need to prevent what happened to her from happening to those who she loves, but she finds herself unable to take more than five steps away from her front door before she retreats back to inside. she feels so utterly useless.

ernie goodarzi ✧

his costume of ‘guy at the halloween party’ doesn’t receive many laughs or compliments, but ernie couldn’t care less. he’s never really cared much for halloween, never been one to be into the theatrics or the bold costumes. the idea of halloween is cool, sure, and he loves seeing his friends go to the effort of getting dressed up, but ernie only really cares to go the the halloween spooktacular because he knows it’s a good reason for him to get absolutely wasted.

hen wen szeto ✧

hen wen doesn’t feel safe being out in shrike heights, in all honesty. she feels as though it’s a risk being anywhere but the safety of her apartment any time past eight o’clock at night, and that’s not a feeling she enjoys. halloween night is even harder for her to be feeling that way; not only is she missing one of her favourite events, but she’s sitting there alone on her birthday. the misery she feels about that adds on to her already overwhelming feelings of fear and unhappiness, and the intensity of it all is what leads her to put on her witch costume and head out to the spooktacular. there she hopes to find at least one good thing for today.

junior viana carneiro ✧

defying all odds, junior is thoroughly excited for this halloween. while he’s going through one of the hardest periods of his life after being attacked so viciously, and while he doesn’t even know what his plans are for halloween, he has so much to be grateful for. he’s thrilled over his roberto da costa costume coming out perfectly, and while that’s something he’s wanted for what feels like his entire life, he’s embarrassingly more focused on his excitement surrounding the fact that he gets to see silvio again.

leaf wozniak ✧

leaf acted like cupid every day at work, so he figured, why not make it official? admittedly he’s more proud than he should be of the costume, and while he doesn’t care to get a prize, he undoubtedly ( and very secretly ) hopes to earn the title of a winner at the costume competition. living in the commune, it’s easier to attend the halloween spooktacular rather than avoid it, so he’s seen there all night, having the most fun.

never able to celebrate halloween as children, sonny and his sister have been making the most of the event each year since they’ve been old enough to call their own shots. his sister unknowingly enters sonny’s version of the phantom of the opera into the competition while he’s busy having a drink ( or three ) in preparation of the haunted house. he’s hoping he doesn’t cry trying to complete it this year !

stevie dickinson ✧

stevie spends a long time debating whether or not he wishes to attend the spooktacular this year, a year that feels scary enough without man made environments aiming to add even more fright. for a while he believes he’ll simply spend the day with his parents; it’s a hard day for them all. gabe’s favourite day of the year was halloween, and stevie misses everything they used to do together each year. he bakes and decorates cookies with his mom, then he hands out candy with his dad for a couple of hours, but eventually he dons his cowboy costume and he makes his way down to the event.

valentine ortiz ✧

valentine has always gone all out for halloween, but he found himself nervous this year, being alone for the first time and not being exactly sure what to do in terms of plans and a costume. he’s trying his hardest to get back into life after his attack, and he’s not sure if he can go through with it and attend the spooktacular. that is exactly why he finds himself dressed as a king. he feels confident enough to at least try to get to the commune while in this role, even if it is just a character, and he feels safe carrying around the sword, even if it is just a prop. part of him can’t help but think about jude; he hopes he likes his costume.
