Hello, hiiii, welcome!!

It's basically just a tournament putting the (normal) playable characters in sonic the fighters against each other, mostly inspired by @themurderofsonic-knockout

The winner of the tournament will then go up against Metal Sonic!

Round 1 matchups, which will be posted in like 10 hours or so:

JUSTICE FOR SONIC THE FIGHTERS

Warms my heart to know I actually played a Sonic Championship cabinet as a kid despite the fact they were apparently extremely rare. Whoever that dude was that had his machines in the Wal-mart lobby in Colorado, you were rad. I mean, heck, that's where I played Virtua Fighter 3 the year it came out in arcades. Whoever that person was, they knew what was up.

Anyway, I'm working my way through this video now and it's everything I've always wanted. I've had a soft spot for Sonic the Fighters basically since playing that arcade cabinet and it's always deeply upset me how hard it's been maligned over the years. So many traditional FGC people I've spoken to were always so confused, afraid, and upset by the game. I carry a special chip on my shoulder when GiantBomb played it for Ranking of Fighters and one of their judges tore the game to ribbons.

And, you know, playing this game for 20 years basically exclusively against the CPU makes you wonder: maybe it's just really bad in proper competitive play? But damn, dude, I was having so much fun.

Seeing the competitive scene in this video, hearing them talk about the finer points of the game balance and how it turned into an evolving meta, seeing this game loved and appreciated, it validates so much about how I've felt for so long in the face of the endless "lol bad sonic game" dog pile.

Something ive been thinking abt is the existance of sonic's "dont die outside your game" psa in the world of wreck-it ralph is the fact that. that psa existing means that characters dont instinctively know they wont respawn if they die in someone elses game.

someone had to find out permadeath was a thing for that psa to get made. maybe it was one of the enemies from q*bert and thats why they got unplugged?? (i am litterally looking at a q*bert wiki and wrong-way's trivia section mentions this theory so apparently im not alone in thinking that)

i know that the psa only exists because its for the people watching the movie to understand the characters could die, but it still very much implies someone died in universe for that psa to be made. which. fucked up honestly !!! i love thinking about the implications of wreck it ralph world building
