I know u have done modern au stuff already for the yi city fam but are there any points of it that you haven't touched on before :0
uuh LOL i think i basically spilled the beans on all of it OOPS but just in case i will resummarize
XY and AQ are full sibs in the songxiao adoption AU, whereas in the threads that bind us, they're half. their parents died in a fire that broke out in their apartment complex, which was ruled an accident, but XY swears he saw someone leave in a hurry before the flames were truly spreading. he pulled AQ out of the fire and burned his hands as a result.
AQ has a green scarf that she never takes off, even when it's sweltering. XY bought it for her before she was born because he knew she'd be a spring baby and didn't want her to be chilly. he laid it over her when he saw her for the first time (he was 6.)
SL and XXC at the start of the AU are Just Very Good Friends who live together. they are both teachers (each specializes in a different area, iirc SL is like history n maths and XXC is literature n maybe... arts and crafts... hehe) who volunteer at the orphanage AQ ends up in when XY gets taken to juvie. they take to her immediately and pretend to be a couple in order to adopt her. she is a feisty child with serious anger issues but she finds comfort in them where she has none. it still takes her years to call them Dad, however.
XUN IS IN IT. You know this because I've written you fics set in this AU! LOL he and MXY are XY's only friends in school and he is 100% the reason XY attends. he's asked by their teacher to show the new kid around the school and Xun gently holds his BAD ICKY HAND that he has trauma about and he's like welp. i don't want to blow everything up, maybe i'll bother showing up to school more often. definitely not to repay the debt of kindness my sister's new parents have so graciously handed me here
XY is NOT comfortable with the idea of a new family and is very protective of the idea of it just being him and AQ.
SORRY IF THESE WERE BRIEF AHH

my sister was talking about wizard ghost book with me, and was like ‘I know there’s like 7 gay tragedies, but the most canon ones, the nice ones, (she was meaning wangxian and songxiao) both have the surviving person in the couple become the caretaker for the other one’s kid. And I really like that’
And she’s right. It’s a parallel I hadn’t noticed. You can’t not pay attention to LWJ raising WWX’s child while he’s dead. But Song Lan doesn’t just take the shattered fragments of his partner’s soul. He’s given (as if it’s the most natural thing to do) the shattered fragments of his partner’s kid’s soul too. And his stated goal is to safeguard both of them, take care of both of them, figure out a way to repair both of them get both of them back. He doesn’t have any promise he’s getting either of them; but he takes them both. He knew A-Qing for like 4 minutes before death, but that’s his kid now too.
I don’t know where I was going with this, I just saw that official art with Song Lan and the shadows of XXC and A-Qing and started typing at light speed

The doorbell rang.
Xiao Xingchen frowned, setting down his cup of tea.
Now who could that…
“Gege!” A-Qing’s voice rang out from the front hall, “Song-gege is here to steal you again!”
Zichen was here? Why was Zichen…
Oh. Oh no.
Suddenly it all came back. Song Lan had mentioned wanting to see some movie or other. Xiao Xingchen didn’t really know what it was, some sort of psychological, horror, action, something, but Zichen had seemed excited about it. Xingchen had casually mentioned that he hadn’t been to the movies in ages, that maybe they should go when it came out. Zichen had eagerly and instantly taken him up on it.
XIngchen usually didn’t go anywhere on weekdays, choosing instead to make sure a-Qing got to bed on time on a school night. But Zichen had been able to get them opening night tickets, had even gone to the trouble of calling the theatre to make sure that they had the capacity to provide described services.
But opening night was on the 16th. And the 16th was on a Thursday. And today was a Thursday. They were supposed to go out today. Right now.
Xiao Xingchen started, almost knocking his cup of tea over in the process, as this clicked into place. How had he forgotten?
He wasn’t ready. Was wearing his loungiest of loungewear – sweatpants and an old tee, his apron still tied loosely around his waist, not having bothered to pull it off while the soup bubbled on the stove, forgotten about it by the time he pulled the pot off and spooned out the servings.
As he dashed out of the kitchen, the apron was of course the first to go. Then he was on his phone, finding Yanli’s name and tapping it perhaps harder than necessary.
The doorbell rang again.
This wasn’t how he had wanted them to meet but… He chewed his lip. He couldn’t very well leave Song Lan standing out in the chilly autumn air...
“A-Qing! Answer the door!” He shouted, as he ran upstairs, T-shirt already hoisted over his head, taking two steps at a time. Yanli’s phone rang. Once. Twice. Three times. He was in his bedroom as the rings switched to voicemail. He heard the door unlatch. Heard a-Qing’s childish voice shout “Come in!”
He heard a gentle muttering. The tones of the man’s low voice made him blush even as he rooted through his closet, frantically searching for something, anything, passable.
He strained his ears as he listened, trying to catch any of the words being exchanged downstairs. Had he hurried out of the room because he thought at least it was better for them to meet without his interference? Or was he simply being a coward, leaving the defining moments to others?
This would be the first time a-Qing or Zichen saw more than a photo of the other. Xingchen and Song Lan had gone out on just enough dates for Xiao Xingchen to acknowledge them as dates, but not enough that he thought it necessary to introduce him to his family yet.
Each time he and Song Lan had gone out, Xiao Xingchen had made sure to have a babysitter lined up. A-Qing would already be occupied with whichever aunt, uncle, or grandparent was free by the time Song Lan was meant to pick him up. Xingchen would wait on the porch, or if the weather was bad, by the window, peering out until he saw the lights of Zichen’s car pull up.
He had had a plan. He was going to first have a more serious conversation about “dating” with a-Qing. He would set her expectations, be sure she understood both why Xingchen was bringing a stranger into their little household, and also explain that dating might not be something permanent – that he was introducing her to Zichen in part to check how well he got along with a-Qing. He wanted her to know that no matter the butterflies in his stomach, no matter the easy comfort he felt with Song Lan, no matter how long he could sit quietly with the other, hands intertwined, no matter how well he could see building his life with this man, he needed a-Qing to know that ultimately, she came first. And if a-Qing didn’t like Zichen, didn’t see him as a positive addition to her life, Xingchen would, no matter his personal feelings, always choose her over anyone else.
But he had not yet had that talk with her.
And now he had left Song Lan – who dealt with nervousness through the veil of a cold demeanour – alone with a-Qing – whose seven-year-old mind judged easily and never changed a first opinion.
The phone had now clicked to Jiang Cheng’s voicemail as well.
Xingchen pulled his softest long sleeve shirt over his head, now hastily dialing his mother, who would certainly not pick up, but hoping anyway. Only by the time he was almost done combing his hair did someone finally pick up, answering Wei Wuxian’s phone.
“Mnm.”
“Wangji!” Xiao Xingchen said breathlessly into the phone, relieved, “I’m sorry this is so last minute but… I have a huge favour to ask…”
He was on the stairs minutes later, trying to hide that he was panting, still trying to hear what was going on. At the lack of exuberant shouting, of a coerced game of tag or hide and go seek, he worried that a-Qing might have already rejected him. He worried that Song Lan might, ever an honest man, confess that he couldn’t do this. That actually, after meeting a-Qing, he realized he didn’t like children. Xiao Xingchen shuddered even at the thought.
Zichen just felt so right. He desperately wanted this to work out. But a-Qing was his life. Her misery would always outweigh his own.
He breathed deep, trying to settle into an at least arguably calm state.
He avoided looking too hard in the direction of the only sound in the room. He was afraid that even his deteriorating eyesight would see something he wouldn’t life, that he’d lose this moment of possibility, where there was at least the chance that this would go well.
He adjusted his hair, checking the bun neatly wrapped at the back of his head, “Ah, I’m so sorry, Zichen! I completely forgot we wanted to go out tonight!” he confessed, “the babysitter should be here any minute now, I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for too…”
He turned towards the dining room, the sounds of previously inaudible voices suddenly discernible. He cut himself off.
“Do you want some more water, Song-gege?” A-Qing had apparently taken her role as host seriously. Xingchen saw the flash of her unmistakeable bright blue plastic teapot,  which she pouted  gently into the nodding Song Lan’s little cup. Zichen’s serious expression indicated that he, too, was taking his role as a guest deadly serious.
The two were set up by a-Qing’s play table – Xingchen able to make out the colourful chairs, the stuffed toys, and an unusually patient a-Yang (likely bribed with a promise of the good cat food) all seated around.
Xiao Xingchen chuckled at the scene. He tried to stifle it, but he had already caught their attention.
“Song-gege!” A-Qing groaned, pouring water all over the table as Song Lan inadvertently turned his whole body towards Xingchen, cup alongside him.
His eyes widened, “S-sorry…” he said, lifting the hem of his jacket and using it to mop up the mess.
“Pfft,” Xingchen finally. His relief to find, not a brawl, not a tantrum, but a tea party making the whole scenario seem even more hilarious than it probably actually was. His laughs grew deeper as he clutched his side, knowing full well that he was asking for a cramp, hoping he could avoid the ordeal hiccups would bring.
“Mrrow!” a-Yang leapt off his chair and ran towards Xingchen, who was now using the railing to support him as he laughed.
“S-stop it a-Yang!” Xingchen giggled as the cat wrapped himself around his legs, making it impossible for Xingchen to proceed down the stairs without tripping on the cat.
Song Lan still sat silently, a gentle flush working its way up his cheeks.
“Song-gege wanted to have a tea party!” A-Qing explained gleefully.
Xingchen nodded, grin stretching from ear to ear as he carefully stepped around the cat, scratching him behind the ears briefly in an attempt to fulfill his bid for attention, “I can tell.”
Zichen nodded, “I was glad to be invited.”
“Any time!” a-Qing beamed, “You’re a much better guest than a-Yang,” she frowned in the direction of the cat, who hissed and dodged behind Xingchen’s legs, “He’s always jumping on the table or leaving without saying goodbye.” She stuck her tongue out at the cat, who ignored her in favour of a bath, “Song-gege would never do that!”
She paused. Xingchen could feel the quick calculations passing through her head, “Will Song-gege be allowed to visit again?”
“Any time.” Xingchen repeated gently, reaching the dining room and holding out an arm to Zichen, “Can we still make it?” he asked worriedly.
Song Lan smiled, glancing quickly at his watch, and smiled at the other man, ”We’ll even have time to get popcorn if we leave soon.”
“And Twizzlers?” Xiao Xingchen asked, glancing sideways at his date.
“And Twizzlers.” Song Lan agreed.
“I changed my mind!” A-Qing shouted, inserting herself between the two and looking up at them both, pushing them apart lightly, "You’re just as gross as Xian-shushu and Lan-gege.”
Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen exchanged a quick glance, before both falling into laughter again.
As if on cue, the doorbell rang once again. They were just in time.
Soon, a-Qing was curled up happily on the couch, listening as the aforementioned “gross” Lan-gege read her favourite story aloud. Xian-shushu, leaning back in a cozy armchair, feet rested on the low coffee table, brought a finger to his lips and motioned to Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen that they could leave, could escape before a-Qing had quite registered that their goodbyes had actually meant they were leaving.
Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen complied, slipping away towards Song Lan’s car.
“So… what did you think of a-Qing?” Xingchen asked nervously, scratching lightly at his pant leg as Song Lan engaged the ignition and backed out of the driveway.
Song Lan was silent for a few agonizing moments before answering, “She takes after you,” he smiled lightly to himself, but Xingchen greedily accepted it for himself, “In all the best ways.”
“Zichen?” Xingchen said after a beat more of silence.
“Mnm?” came the answer.
“What did I ever do to deserve you coming into my life?”
A pause as Song Lan’s face, ever focused on the road, reddened from chin to brow, “Agree to go to psychological thriller premieres that will definitely be full of pretentious and obnoxious film majors and might give you nightmares?”
Xingchen leaned back, comfortable enough to close his eyes as he smiled, “Oh yeah. That.”
It was early days still. Xingchen couldn’t risk making promises. Not to himself. Not to Zichen. Not to a-Qing. But that image – the image of Song Lan patiently awaiting his turn for carefully poured water, waiting until after the stuffed bunny and grumpy cat had had theirs, served by the energetic a-Qing? As much as Xingchen thought it smarter, more cautious, more in line with everything his mother had told him, to try convince himself that he couldn’t be sure, he couldn’t help the only word that came to mind at the thought of the tea party:
Family.

Note
1) Your post recommending that people watch the untamed actually convinced a friend of mine to watch it, so thanks! I need more people to scream with about this show with. 2) About song lan/xiao xingchen, I thought it's cool that song lan left with xxc's sword (purpose & focus of energy), spiritual power (literal soul), and eyes (literal body). What if someone could use that to resurrect him? Mostly bc i love the idea of them mirroring lwj/wwx's reunion somehow. So many possible parallels.
First of all, VICTORY, everyone should watch the Untamed and scream to me about it.  If anyone wants a rec post, here it is.
Second of all, G O D, I’m so???  I’m so proud of you for being the very first person to send me an ask about Xiao Xingchen/Song Lan, I love them so goddamn much, what a fucking tragedy.  The potential.  The girlfriend got very frustrated with my determination to wallow in the Anguish(TM) and dared me to write a coffee shop AU, so I am doing that.
Sort of.
There is a coffee shop extant in the AU, it exists, the fact that it is also a “Song Lan has wandered the earth for a thousand years waiting for Xiao Xingchen to reincarnate and now he has and he doesn’t know Song Lan” AU is secondary to the fact that THERE IS A COFFEE SHOP IN THIS FIC.
Anyway.  I’m kind of thinking about like...a Galatea kind of situation here?  As long as we’re on the subject of reincarnation AUs and happy endings.  Like, Song Lan sees to it that a memorial is built for Xiao Xingchen, and that’s one thing, but he also creates a statue, and that’s quite another.  It takes him a long time to think of it, and he does it because he wants to be sure that he can remember the shape of his jaw, the bend of his wrist.  Song Lan is the only fierce corpse in the world who’s spent untold decades refining the brute strength of the dead into something that resembles a skilled touch, so that he can use Shuanghua (and Fuxue, but...mostly for Shuanghua) as it deserves, and he puts it to work on clay and then on stone.
It takes him a long time.  That’s okay.  Song Lan has nothing but time.  A-Qing is gone, her spirit healed and free, and he encouraged her to move on, because it would hurt Xiao Xingchen, when he came back, to know that A-Qing lingered as a ghost for his sake.  All Song Lan has left to him is time and Xiao Xingchen’s sight and sword and soul, so he looks on the world and makes sure to find it beautiful, and goes night hunting for anyone who will take a strange mute cultivator’s help, and creates a statue so that the world will remember him.
He’s sorry, when the statue is finally finished.  It’s nowhere in particular.  It’s somewhere important.  Song Lan doesn’t know where the celestial mountain is, relative to anything in particular, but he has a--painfully clear memory, of opening his new eyes for the first time, and knows the Nowhere In Particular crossroad in question down to the blades of grass.  The statue raises its blindfolded face toward the sunrise, with a small smile on its lips and a hand held out as if in benediction or aid.  It’s tall and handsome, delicate-boned and long-haired, dressed in flowing robes and bearing a whisk in the crook of its folded arm.  It holds no sword--of course.  Song Lan couldn’t bring himself to give it a facsimile of Shuanghua, not while he holds out hope that the real thing might someday see its owner again.
Song Lan lets his fingers linger on the palm of the uplifted hand before he steels himself to step away.
The statue stirs, and reaches after him.

Would you ever write beastiality and necrophilia?
Not that I'm into it (if you do, good for you!) but a friend once asked me what is my limit and I said I like consent. As long as it's consent I'm super generous with whatever theme offered. From General to Explicit I can take it all =))) Vanilla. Check. Coffee shop uwu. Check. Twisted mental issues? Check. Beastiality. Check. Necrophilia. Check. Cannibalism. Check. (I know you like consensual cannibalism. I do too (///v///))
so i'd totally write monsterfucking, but beastiality's a different animal (hah), isn't it? it's a little more about the degradation and taboo of fucking recognizable common animals, hmmmm...it's not a hard line for me at all! yeah i'd totally write it, but i'd much prefer reading it by an author who can lean into the pure id. i just know i'd get too boggled down by character work if i write it—i'd want the raw vicious nasty noncon porn of it, y'know??
as for necrophilia, i would totally write it in a necromancy-context where it's all about fucking a body that's rotting and falling apart (i kind of almost did for songxiao LMAO). i don't know if i'd write it for a literally dead body, only because the lack of ability to react is not sexy to me.,? like i totally have a somnophilia kink, and the sexiest moment of somno is the moment they wake up, and realize they'd been fucked in their sleep y'know?? so if the dead body isn't going to wake up, it doesn't strike that sexy chord for me kjsdnfljkdsnfksd
(okay but a sexy threesome-y variation would be one person nonconing another with a third person's dead body LKJSNDFKJSDNFKJSD yeas i'm thinking of canon bingliushen wouldn't that be fucking PEAK)
SAME FAM. Consent is so good, and honestly, fic has made kink negotiation a whole kink on its own for me. I love literally every single dark and nasty fetish when it's people figuring out how to do it for each other's maximum enjoyment!!!
and i think for writing, i do prefer consent. i read a SHIT TON of noncon tho lmfao, and often wish i were better at writing it.
consensual cannibalism buddies u/////u i love you i adore you i treasure you

Hi! Do you know any fanfics in which Wei Wuxian is a rogue cultivator? And thank you so much for your recs, I’ve been supplied with the best reading material thanks to you!!!!
Hi nonny!
We’re glad our blog is helping you to find new amazing reading material 😉.
And as to your question, these fics should feature the “Rogue Cultivator!WWX” content you were looking for:
Cheap Labor by SakuraKage (4+K, General)
(Canon Divergence, Rogue Cultivator!WWX, Insecure!WWX, Sugar Daddy!LWJ, Getting Together, Marriage)
@yilingradishfairy
If someone had told him five years ago that, as a grown adult, he would be back in Gusu, copying scrolls in the Library Pavilion voluntarily, Wei Wuxian would have laughed his head off. You couldn’t pay me to come back to the Cloud Recesses, Land of Three Thousand Rules, he would have said. Wei Wuxian was very fortunate that this never occurred, as he had always hated eating his words. Because here he was. Copying scrolls. And getting paid for it.
Resplendence by FrozenMarVel (116+K, Explicit, WIP 31/?)
(Canon Divergence, Different Meetings, Love At First Sight, Crossdressing, Flirting, Fix-It, Fluff, Jealous!LWJ, Fluff, UST, Horny!Wangxian, Wangxian Fam, Badass!Cangse Sanren, Courting)
Lan Wangji encounters a beautiful stranger during a routine night hunt. He is enchanted.
Sanren by Kyogre (87+K, Teen)
(Canon Divergence, Different Meetings, Action & Romance)
Leaving YunmengJiang in an effort to curb the tensions in the Jiang family, Wei WuXian becomes a rogue cultivator.
Even without the support of a sect, he is a rare genius whose name will become known across the cultivation world and whose techniques will influence the course of a war.
However, what influences his own fate is a chance meeting that becomes the first step toward love.
Death's Awaited Confession by Mantoubunlao (4+K, Mature, WIP 2/6)
(Hanahaki Disease, PTSD, Drunkenness, Rogue Cultivator!WWX)
Lan Zhan has always wanted to tell the rogue cultivator Wei WuXians true feelings, yet is at war during the time for each rejection. It isn't till death of the rogue cultivator makes things worse for the constant rejection unrequited love that makes Lan Wangji fall ill. When Wei WuXian is re-summoned, Lan Wangji now faces Hanahaki Disease and is given the chance to tell him how he truly feels to release the curse.
One Last Chance for Life by Mantoubunlao (12K, Mature, WIP 9/?)
(Canon Divergence, Rogue Cultivator!WWX)
Lán Wàngjī has one last chance to bring Wèi Wúxiàn back to Gūsū before the rogue cultivator meets death. What if Wèi Wúxiàn surrenders and returns to the sect to be taken under the care of Lán Wàngjī and Lán Xīchén to show him what offered hands are really there for.
Or would all of saving Wèi Wúxiàn be in vain?
Frost moon’s sun by RenaFair (116+K, Teen)
(Canon Divergence, Songxiao-Raised!WWX, Family Feels, Slow Build, Childhood Sweethearts, Angst and Fluff, Humor, Mentions of Smut)
Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan had dreamed of founding a sect together, that is until Xingchen heard what happened to his shijie. The two then decides to put their little dream on hold as they care for a pair of tiny hands between them, protecting the little boy with a sunshine smile as best as they can.
Alternately; Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan adopted Wei Ying after his parents' death.
Jiujiu by candlelight_smiles (7+K, Teen, WIP 4/?)
(Canon Divergence, Songxiao-Raised!WWX, Family Dynamics, Eventual Wangxian)
Xiao Xingchen finds his young nephew starving on the streets and decides to take him under his wing. Song Lan is a bit surprised to say the least when he meets his friend next to find him with a child. Thirteen years later, Lan Wangji is on a solo night hunt when he runs into a mischievous rogue cultivator.
Journey of a Rogue Cultivator by CodaRitsu (12K, General, WIP 4/?)
(Canon Divergence, Baoshan Sanren-Adopted!WWX, Rogue Cultivator!WWX)
CangSe SanRen and Wei ChangZe died during a night hunt leaving Wei WuXian to fend for himself. What if instead of Jiang FengMian, Wei WuXian was discovered by a mysterious woman instead? What if he was brought into the celestial mountains? How would things be different then?
...
"Hey, shishu!"
"Even if I am your martial uncle, I'm still younger than you."
"Hehe!~ Shishu, you know how my mother went rogue to see the world?"
"Of course, shijie was one of Baoshan Sanren's greatest disciples."
"I want to follow in my mom's footsteps! I am going to leave the mountain... Little Uncle, come with me!"
... Being raised by the infamous Baoshan Sanren, Wei WuXian learns cultivation and more of his origins. Wei WuXian befriends his mother's disciple brother, Xiao XingChen, who joins him in leaving the mountain. A rogue cultivator ventures the world performing several acts of heroism.
Who will they meet along the way? What love will bloom with new encounters? Will they surpass the hardships that may arise?
Tall Once More In The Spring Wind by FayJay (40K, Explicit, WIP 18/?)
(Pre-Canon, Backstory, Canon Divergence, Cangse Sanren, Madam Lan,  Kid!Wangxian, Kid Fic, Childhood Friends, Dragons, Lesbians)
Essentially: LWJ's mom and WWX's mom ON THE RUN with THEIR KIDS.
(...and also MY's mom. And any other goddamn moms who need help. Get in the fucking car, ladies, we're saving everybody)
Because here's the thing: LWJ's mother was a cultivator who killed her future-husband's teacher. And I think we all have a pretty damn good idea what might have gone down to provoke that, and why the Lan menfolk never actually explain what precipitated this act of extreme violence, and thus we can probably take a stab at why a perhaps-newly-pregnant lady* might end up agreeing to a marriage of convenience with some guy she really wasn't into, who was determined to keep her locked up in a pleasant little prison in Gusu. And I'd like to say "aww, bless him, he saved his unrequited crush all selflessly like, even though they didn't then live together as husband and wife"....but he subsequently knocked her up with a second child. :/
The ladies in MDZS tend to have a pretty shitty time, so this fic is pulling a goddamn Fury Road and scooping them up and taking them off to form their own Ye Olde Themyscira-ish Rogue Sect of ladies looking out for other ladies.

Where Lan Zhan, 6 y/o, refuses to believe that Mother embarked on a journey without telling him goodbye and goes to look for her alone. Caught by surprise by a snow storm, he finds a safe port in the company of a very strange rogue cultivator.

Yiling Laozu was dead, and the cultivation world rejoiced. Now it was time to rest and finally heal the wounds left by the Sunshot Campaign.
In their absence, the countryside grew more dangerous with each passing day. Rogue cultivators stepped in soon enough. Rumour had it that amongst them, there was one who went where no one else dared to go, all but for a place to sleep and a meal for his children. Rumour had it a crow rode on his shoulder. Rumour had it he disappeared into the shadows whenever someone so much as mentioned the four great Sects.
Rumour had it he was a ghost.
*** A story of a single father, his two kids, a daydreaming disciple, and a pet crow as seen through the eyes of others.

@frost-and-snow day 3: family
pretty sure nobody saw this one coming from me
[id: a warm scene of songxiao in front of a glowing off-screen fire, with two sleeping infants in their lap under a blanket. they are sitting on the floor in front of a bed, with a few golden lights floating about as well as embers rising. to song lan’s left, out of focus, are two steaming cups. both men have their eyes closed and are smiling, snuggled up to each other. /end id]

‘cause no one’s ever done THAT before! yi city adoption AU, I Do What I Want
info copypasted mostly from twitter under the cut!!!
Songxiao Yi City Fam AU shit has probably been Done to death but I actually had a dream a while back in which Xue Yang and A-Qing were kids in the system and idk if they were bio siblings or not but they definitely looked out for one another. A-Qing could see ghosts and Xue Yang could break into places looking for mischief.
Now idk if I'd incorporate any supernatural element in the AU but they are bio sibs looking to be adopted. They would've started off as normal enough kids, older bro and little sis, but everything goes to hell when they get adopted/fostered and their new parent tries to hurt A-Qing, who is like six, which causes young teen Xue Yang to go gorilla mode and leave the guy comatose, so she's taken back into the system and he's probably taken to a correctional facility.
Either way you bet they get separated. Songxiao are Just A Couple Of Bros, Totally, who visit the orphanage to help out and teach some kids and they end up forming a special bond with A-Qing, who was once a sweet, inquisitive little girl but now lashes out regularly  because she misses her brother and doesn't know if she'll ever see him again.
They work tirelessly with her to help her feel better and end up caving and adopting her. A few years go by and Xue Yang shows back up, having weaseled his way out of whatever predicament he was in and having taken on a multitude of odd jobs in hopes of somehow "buying" his sister out of adoption. When he goes back to the orphanage and finds she's not there and they won't tell him where she is/insinuate they might turn him in to authorities, he has to break in and look through all the paperwork until he finds her and her whereabouts, at which point he shows up at the Songxiao Home looking a mess and demanding to see his sister and... Well... The gays have a son now too.
The kids lost their parents to a fire and Xue Yang’s hand is permanently fucked from getting his sister to safety during it. They both take forever to warm up to anyone and as such take a very long time in accepting Songxiao as their new parents (that doodle of A-Qing is her first time calling them her dads), but they do their best to stay out of trouble and reward them for their kindness.
Songxiao take a while to get together but do so before Xue Yang shows up so that’s something at least. XXC has very sensitive eyes and has to wear shades 99% of the time and SL does not enjoy being touched so he always wears long sleeves and turtlenecks. They’re both primary school-level teachers.

Fic Writer Interview Meme
tagged by: @ghostly-writer thank you! (:
name: DJ
fandoms: mainly mdzs and hotline miami! other mxtx novels are included and i do have other interests, but in terms of content it’s those two
two-shot: nobody seems to know what this means so here’s my book club series again
most popular multi-chapter fic: wei wuxian’s super special super secret book club by a landslide
actual worst part of writing: starting again once i’ve stopped. once i manage to start up again, it’s super smooth sailing, but the period before that is just constantly ‘oh i won’t be able to pick it back up, oh i won’t be able to get the words out’. a lot of the time i’ll have all the words in my head but my hands won’t be typing anything!
how you choose your titles: good question. i don’t know! i went with one word titles for a bit, feeling them to be strong and summarize the fic well (bodyguard, overtime, dragon, shelter), but then i also have silly titles like the aforementioned book club mouthful, because it’s eye-catching and lighthearted, and if you’re reading this, it’s too late, which is a meme and also conveys the more jokey nature of the premise. book of weisong was chosen because, well, i wanted it to have a sort of chronicle feel! and also it reminds me of ATLA. frozen pond is, again, just something short that deals with the key part of the fic. chasing a reaction/fanning the flame/four years is not forever/i’m better than him are all just sentences that act as summaries of the premise (sensing a pattern here), and they’re also all oneshots, which i think are way easier to name!! just one second and dawn chorus are both named after songs, but in the case of the first, the title was chosen because it’s a collection of tiny drabbles. in the case of the second, i was struggling for a title and decided to go with the name of a song i really like, that i felt encompassed the fic’s themes of sun/moon powers, birds, and the fact that wen ruohan names all his kids after early morning.
do you outline: i do. very roughly, so i won’t psych myself out of writing it, you know? which is also the reason i don’t ever tell anyone how my fics will progress or end. if i discuss it, i won’t want to write it, because i’ve already shared it. my outlines are often bullet points that make very little sense to me further down the line if i leave the wip for too long LMAO
ideas you probably won’t get around to, but wouldn’t it be nice: modern songxiao adopt xy and a-qing AU u_u i really want to, i have the outline in my head, i’ve drawn the art for it, i’ve talked about it, but the crippling fear of getting something wrong or not being able to research properly and not really having the fantasy leeway creates a massive roadblock i can’t seem to get around. it frustrates me, because i want to write it, but the last thing i want to do is somehow superimpose a western lens over a different culture simply because i couldn’t find what i was looking for on google. i have done research for it already, but what if it Isn’t Enough? and i know it’s fanfic so technically i can just say ‘hey well that’s just how it is in this universe’, but that doesn’t make me feel any more confident. i dunno how everyone else does it. i just want yi city fam fics ):
callouts @ me: stop worrying over whether people will tear your fic to shreds or not over the story YOU decided to write. if they don’t like it, too bad, write it anyway! they can go find something else, it’s YOUR world now!
best writing traits: i like to think i’m good at writing funny dialog. i also try to give depth to every character i write, so they don’t end up seeming one-dimensional, even if their roles are small.
Spicy tangential opinion: happy endings are good, you guys are just mean
No-obligation Tag: @crimsonrainseekingflower @usamitokishige and whoever wants to do it \o/
