I was tagged by both @bearfeathers and @selenay936 MONTHS ago (it's a pain to do these on mobile, but I rarely ever use my laptop).

They stare at one another for a while, heads turned towards each other as they lay sprawled out on the bed. Steve’s foot, still on the floor, taps out an agitated rhythm.

“Fine.” He eventually concedes, shoving himself up onto his elbows.

“Fine?” Eddie parrots back.

Steve shrugs. “I’ll pretend to be gay. I’ll come out to them.” Eddie’s eyes widen a bit and for a second it looks like he wants to backpedal and take back his suggestion, but Steve barrels on before he can. “But if you think I’m doing this alone you’re crazy. You’ve got to be there to tell them it was all your stupid idea of a prank if they do start to go bananas.”

Eddie props himself up on his arms as well, one eyebrow raised. He considers that for a moment, tipping his head to the side. After a good five seconds a devilish grin starts to pull at his lips. “I’ll do you one better, Harrington.” He says. “I’ll be there. And I’ll tell them it was all my dumb idea if they get crazy on you–which they won’t.” He snickers. “But…I’ll be there as your boyfriend.”

Even funnier: this is a multicultural setting, so the book contains each species’ age to purchase alcohol… and pipeweed, and frog poison, and dwarven songstones, and elven ‘mountain air’, and other non-alcoholic intoxicants.

At least one species separates alcohol into categories: you have to be this old to drink grain alcohol but this old to drink fruit alcohol.

Another species has two different sets of rules dividing on an arbitrary axis of division that foreigners can’t reliably figure out, so the poor bartender is in the awkward position of asking the lizard folk in question whether they are rxan or tnig.

One species legal limit for everything is ‘if they are old enough to ask for it they can have it’. However, they must know to ask for it, so they are given a special coaster telling bar staff not to explain the menu to them.

Finally, the human age limit is determined not by location of the bar but by kingdom of origin, leading many young scoundrels to try to pull a bad accent to convince the bartender they can legally drink.

I think it would be very funny for like characters in a fantasy setting to walk into a pub and try to order and the bartender sighs and goes "species and age?" While pulling out a massive book holding the drinking age for every type of species capable of purchasing alcohol
