hey!! when I followed you I wasn’t actually interested in bruce springsteen at all (you’re just cool), but I think I want to start listening to some of his music. Do you have an album to recommend or a place I should start?
SORRY this is like WEEKS late but if you are still out there... i recommend starting with the songs "im on fire", "dancing in the dark", "Atlantic city" and "my lover man", and then listening to the albums darkness on the edge of town & then born to run.... and if you like what you hear you should also check out his first two albums, especially the songs "lost in the flood" & "spirit in the night" & "growin up" & "4th of july asbury park" & "incident on 57th street" & "rosalita come out tonight"... im not gonna say much more I could go on and on but this is usually what I recommend to people trying to get into him 😁😁😁

rules: list 15 bands/artists you love, and name your favorite song by each. no need to rank, just 15 artists you love and what is THE SONG for you by each. also it doesn't have to be your top fifteen bands. just. 15 you like.
(15 is so many. but we persevere.)
taylor swift - treacherous or cowboy like me do NOT make me choose
carly rae jepsen - talking to yourself (greatest pop song of all time btw)
fall out boy - hum hallelujah
paramore - (one of those) crazy girls
chappell roan - pink pony club
hozier - francesca
bruce springsteen - 4th of july asbury park nj (sandy)
my chemical romance - vampire money
mitski - carry me out
lorde - supercut
charli xcx - yuck
the front bottoms - joanie
olivia rodrigo - ballad of a homeschooled girl
bleachers - chinatown
the mountain goats - jenny
i will tag @prettiestnight @cuntyaries @evermqrenthusiast @torturedpoetdean @parrishesronan

hi this is 7 hours after you requested this but here are the bruce springsteen magic rat songs:
jungleland (literally has the lyric "the magic rat drove his slick machine over the jersey state line"), it's hard to be a saint in the city, lost in the flood, wild billys circus story, 4th of july asbury park, incident on 57th street, new york city serenade, tenth avenue freeze out
those are his longest songs with the most "epic poetry" lyrics, he mostly wrote these when he was younger and then as he got older leaned more towards 3-5 minute long ballads and stuff 👍
THANK YOU. love to see that there IS a magic rat song and it wasnt just a joke... anyway i will listen to them later.

Sandy, Tomorrow Shandi
Shandi is always a challenge with the Kiss fans.
There are quite a few of them who obviously like this song and don't make a big secret of it. These are usually the Australians, who are all into Unmasked (1980) anyway, because that album has already passed into their heritage.
Then there are those who sell their secret love of it to the outside (fan-) world as a so-called guilty pleasure. When I read something like that, I always ask myself why, if you like something, should you feel any guilt about it? After all, it's just a nice and harmless song that you can listen to on a sunny day and doesn't hurt anyone, and not a latent pyromaniac disposition or a similar nasty habit. But this question is of course just pure automatism, and basically doesn't need to be answered at all, because the answer is basically obvious.
To be more precise, obvious like a gang of thugs surrounding us all, playing with clubs in their hands, keeping a wary eye on us to make sure we only give the right answer, otherwise we'll get into trouble with them, because they can't stand soft pop crap like Unmasked, especially not schmaltzy stuff like Shandi (1).
But you don't really have to be afraid of them, because those fellas are mostly just hardcore fans from the very beginning. If you throw them a hot pizza topped with double cheese, they'll leave you alone and pounce on it. And they're not the fastest either, if you know what I mean. But to each his own, I don't begrudge anyone their favorite gang gestures.
Anyway, to slowly turn the corner back to Shandi I think most of you might know the rip-off stories about Joe Walsh's Tomorrow from 1978 and Bruce Springsteen's Sandy (4th of July Asbury Park) from 1973. In this case I've chosen its cover version by The Hollies from 1975 for my illustration because I think it shows the similarity a little better. And if you shouldn't know it, don't be shy, because nobody has to feel guilty here, just check out the links and have a listen. Everything else should fall into place in no time at all.
For my part, I am firmly convinced that after Kiss' appearance at the Daisy in '73, nothing good came out of them anymore, and that everything went downhill from there anyway (2).
I mean, after all, everyone has to draw a line somewhere.
Side Note:
(1) For some unknown reason they leave the Aussies alone and tolerate their contrarianism.
(2) Of course I love Shandi, always have, and still do. Unmasked is on high rotation for me in the summer. Well, probably every other summer, but still.

Best of Bruce Springsteen Coming April 19
- “Growin’ Up” previews 18- and 31-track collections
At 74, Bruce Springsteen is still “Growin’ Up.”
The Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. number is the opening song and preview single from the forthcoming Best of Bruce Springsteen, which arrives April 19.
Fifty-one years after its initial release, “Growin’ Up” is a reminder of how close Springsteen was to being his fully formed musical and lyrical self on his 1973 debut. He sounds pretty much like the guy who would become the Boss just a few years later as he sings:
The flag of piracy flew from my mast/my sails were set wing to wing/I had a jukebox graduate for first mate/she couldn't sail but she sure could sing
Available in physical (18 cuts) and digital (31) formats, the discography-spanning Best of collection includes such fan favorites as “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)” and “The River;” hits like “Hungry Heart” and “Born in the USA;” the soundtrack-only “Streets of Philadelphia;” the acoustic “The Ghost of Tom Joad;” and 21st-century numbers including “Ghosts” and “Letter to You.”

Covers by unlikely artists?
Covers by unlikely artists? What are some cover songs by artists that you would never have expected to cover that song, or even anything else by the original artist? The covers don't necessary have to be brilliant, just unexpected. A few to get started:The Beatles' "I Want To Tell You", covered by Ted Nugent Bruce Springsteen's "Sandy (4th Of July, Asbury Park)Sandy (4th Of July, Asbury Park)", covered by The Hollies Steely Dan's "Barrytown", covered by Ben Folds Five Submitted May 09, 2024 at 11:42AM by TheSanityInspector https://ift.tt/9PNzTFL via /r/Music

I just want to keep a top 5 list of my favourite Bruce songs at this moment in time:
• Thunder Road (both the album version and the live ‘acoustic’ version with just piano, this version makes me weep!)
• Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
• 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) live version (it just hits differently)
• Sherry Darling
• Reason to Believe
This was so hard, I also just want to put the whole of darkness on the edge of town on here as it’s my favourite album right now but I couldn’t pick just one song off of the album to make the list!!
