Hey! So im just finished reading svsss but somehow i felt so unsatisfied with the ending. So my questions are ; 1. I watched svsss fanmade vid with LBH proposed to SQQ. Was there any chap canonically wrote about this? I thought the extras will contain this but i didnt find them. Or did MXTX ever said anything abt this? 2. Can u pls recc me svsss fics u love or Tumblr svsss fic-recc i can follow? Bc i swear i felt their relationship havent been explored enough! Thankyou❤️

Uhh I think there should be an extra about the proposal. I remember someone mentioning that it adapts a scene from one of the extras, but I haven’t read them yet so I don’t know which/where they are. Either that or I’m imagining things haha.

oh man there are too many svsss fics i love. Fair warning, apparently I really like AUs or what-ifs, because almost none of the fics I found in my history were set in canon lol, and none were my favorite favorites. 

Actually, funny story: I didn’t feel strongly about many of the characters except for Shen Yuan when I read SVSSS. What made me really fall in love with the characters were the fics and their authors’ interpretations of them (I distinctly remember that aside from Shen Yuan, only Ning Yingying and Gongyi Xiao ever really caught my eye).

Anyways, if you don’t mind some AUs:

Feynite’s SV Wishes series is a wonderful, wonderful AU (alternate xianxia world) with some of the best emotional writing I’ve devoured in a long time.

Not just Feynite’s here, but a few authors write collections of 1-2 chapter AUs that are really fun and creative with good, concise characterization considering they aren’t full length fics, technically.

of the same river (we drink) by sonderlynights, 用玉绍缭之. Shen Yuan transmigrates, but not into Shen Qingqiu. No System. But it’s a really damn good AU.

We Never Dreamed These Walls by straightforwardly. I like AUs, apparently. This one is a what-if: what if Shen Yuan went down to the Endless Abyss with Luo Binghe.

Skip these recs if you only want to read about the main couple:

a straw to light the fire by penscritch. It’s Liushen, and honestly hilarious and supremely creative (another xianxia AU, though close to canon setting). Basically, Liu Qingge is the modern guy who transmigrates. Shen Yuan is a hoot. That is all.

sharp and glorious thorn by newamsterdam. It’s Yue Qingyuan/Original Shen Qingqiu, basically what if there was no transmigration and Shen Qingqiu lost his memory from qi deviation. I find villains fun to explore, and fics that dig into original Shen Qingqiu’s train wreck psyche really satisfy my id lol.

A personal favorite author of mine is JustAWanderingBabbit, who focuses on Original Luo Binghe/Original Shen Qingqiu. Their writing style takes a lot of getting used to, but they can really build a world and make you feel immersed in it within a short span of words. Not for everyone, but I like their stories.

not EXACTLY what you're looking for but can i recommend "of the same river (we drink)" by sonderlynights and 用玉绍缭之 (mercuryandglass)? and there are some stories in "Scum Villain Archive" by Kyogre that I think you might like (demon lord fell in love with me and transmigrator binghe) . Kyogre also wrote "Secret Route Unlocked" which is, in my opinion, peak liushen and REALLY GOOD for "binghe makes friends and deals with emotions and has a support network that helps him with it"

So I finally got my copy of morning sun moonless night and I just wanted to let you know that as soon as I saw your fic I went !!!!!! because I really love the night circus but it's not very well known? And the fic was so well written and beautiful. I love how it's Lilia and Minako who are the mentors, and all the really ingenious adaptation changes you made (makka replacing Isobel is amazing. Thank you for writing such a wonderful fic that serves my very niche interests XD

To be honest, the reason we picked The Night Circus was 100% because of @skysoftiris! I hadn’t even read it before, but I read it in order to write the zine. It was fantastic, too! Just really original and inspiring and mysterious. I couldn’t believe it was written as a NaNoWriMo because it was SO LONG. I can’t believe the book isn’t considered more of a classic, it was lovely.

We had a ton of discussions about who was gonna be which characters, and how everything would be set up... The mentors were even Yakov and Celestino, at some point, but Lilia and Minako made more sense. I made Makka into Isobel because who even would Viktor treat with love besides his puppy

Hmm. ESHH has two big inspirations. One is our doubts are traitors by @astoryaboutwar, which is just this really amazing fic about powered criminals Viktor and Yuuri, and the other is one of my old fics, a Zexal canon AU called Tapetum Lucidum.

After I first read our doubts are traitors (which was over a year ago, at least; I haven’t allowed myself to even look at it since I started writing ESHH to avoid any inadvertant plagiarism. Which means I haven’t read the update yet, unfortunately, but if you haven’t read this fic please do!), I thought, man, I miss writing darker fics. I didn’t really start writing romcom-type fics until YOI fandom. I came up with this idea of a telepathic Viktor, and how that ability might map onto Viktor’s existing character, and from there I built the world around him. ESHH is in Yuuri’s POV, but it’s really Viktor’s story in a lot of ways. It’s just that Viktor is kind of overpowered for a POV character, and following Yuuri as he tries to put together all the mysteries is a lot more interesting to read.

It’s a fun story to write because there are a lot of moving pieces to juggle. It’s also a fun story because most of the worldbuilding came out of my head, so I really do have free rein in a way I don’t in other AUs. I like writing this version of Victuuri, too, where their feelings for each other are juxtaposed against both of their moral inadequacies.

Also, I just like to write cliffhangers and suspense and upset my readers. Whoops.

dear diary, i met a boy:

This fic is 50% spite and 50% my diehard devotion to Jock Yuuri/Nerd Viktor. Listen, you could write Viktor as a popular quidditch captain, but Viktor canonically is a workaholic with no friends who is bad at flirting and who cries on his dog, so consider that baby Viktor was probably a hot mess. Yuuri, on the other hand, is the celebrity hero of his small town and seducing Viktor by flexing all his muscles really hard on a pole and deals with stress by aggressively running away, and baby Yuuri probably had hordes of classmates who followed him to the rink to crush on him.

Look. That’s just science. This fic is also my argument for Ravenclaw Viktor and Slytherin Yuuri. 

The rest of it is just spite at JKR. JKR wants to ruin Harry Potter by adding a bunch of racism and inconsistent world-building and trying to convince us Remus is straight? Fine! I will write an AU that fixes all your shitty writing point by point. Everyone will be gay. Wizards will be roasted for not having wifi and not teaching their kids math. Hogwarts is the jock party school of the wizarding world now. 

(I also just wanted to do a high school AU, and realized that I could just steal JKR’s magical high school and combine all my wishes into one.)

In the mana'din AU have Uthvir and/or Lavellan seen Thenvunin's plays? What do they think about the plays?

Thenvunin doesn’t think that Lavellan has seen them, at least (she went to one of them but now she generally keeps away, she thinks they’re good for Thenvunin to vent but she doesn’t really like watching them herself - Thenvunin’s writing is much too transparent to anyone who knows him in person).

Uthvir goes to them every now and again, though. More to see how people take them and what they do with the material. It’s a good way to gauge sentiments towards Andruil - sometimes she wins over some of the more rebellious-types among Mana’Din’s territory because she seems like more of a rule-shirking outsider to the evanuris. It’s a notion that doesn’t usually out-live spending any substantial time around her people or territories, but most of Mana’Din’s followers don’t get that opportunity.

The plays give an angle to her identity that’s more in-keeping with perceptions of the older crowd, and sort of veers away from some dangerous misconceptions about her. Uthvir especially tends to go when a younger troupe is putting on an underground performance. Aside from making note of what goes over well, what doesn’t, and what changes the artists themselves implement, they kind of dig that Thenvunin’s scripts cast them in a really... well, sympathetic light. 

Thenvunin’s been asked to do more plays about more evanuris under his secret illegal political plays pen name. So he’s done a few others, too. He doesn’t like to watch enactments of his anti-Andruil stuff, and he still hasn’t managed to get anything out about Mythal (it’s hard for him), but sometimes they go and watch his comedy of errors about June and Sylaise and suchlike together.
