Cora Novoa play her new album for Wired Live at Tate-Modern

WIRED Magazine is proud to welcome this year’s Partner, Sonar+D. As part of this exciting partnership, DJ and producer Cora Novoa will host two musical interludes throughout the day.

Cora Novoa will present her upcoming third album and tour-live “Mental Diary”. A project created with a analog setup and with a storytelling behind. The live is made up of modular synths, machine drums, and full of romantic textures and dark drones.

She will release the first act of her trilogy "Our words have brought us this far. Only our actions will take us further" on November 28.

Novoa will kickoff the world tour for the new album in January 2019.

Cristina Checa talks about her genre-hopping DJ sets feat. the likes of Gazelle Twin, Rezzett and Perc

“When I DJ, I really love to have fun and feel free paying more attention to the selection than the technique. I guess you could say it’s pretty eclectic.“

I first met Cristina when I interviewed her earlier this year in June as part of the #womeninsonar project. We spoke about how artificial intelligence could be integrated into a band as part of the creative process [Cristina did most of the talking] and how they [Desert] planned to demonstrate Magenta – Google’s AI and music research group - in their performance at Sónar+D. I must admit it was all a bit over my head so I tried to look cool as if I knew my stuff and ask interesting questions, but It was only when the discussion turned to a new project she was working on incorporating hypnosis and pop music that I knew we could be friends. 

Fast forward to the end of August when I was thinking about bringing Groove Control back to the club - changing up the format, experimenting with a fresh vibe and inviting artists I felt a musical response to, but perhaps didn’t know so well - Cristina popped into my head. Initially I was a bit shy to ask, but having recently crossed path’s at BarcelonaCityFM’s UKG party, as luck would have it we bumped into each other again at the shesaidso Barcelona meet-up. I posed the question and she said yes! So began the conversation and when I asked her about her DJ style she said:

“It’s very different to when I play live and have to focus on my voice, all the machines and the live production. Sometimes I feel quite limited by electronic pop music that's why I find it liberating to DJ with other genres. Some tracks I like to play about with are Dinamarca feat Kassandra & Zutzut - How About (Mobilegirl Remix), Rezzett ‘Doyce’ on The Trilogy Tapes and the Gazelle Twin ‘Anti Body’ ( Perc Remix)”. A girl after my own heart! 

I’m pretty damn chuffed to say Cristina will step up to Groove Control this Friday 20th October at Garage442 alongside myself D.N.S, Misdigest and SamRai.
