ok idk how to word this correctly right now cuz Tired but i think persona fans should learn that just cuz the game says something doesn't mean it's not also saying something else. like not necessarily in a subtext way but moreso how games can frame something. like p4 says naoto isn't really trans even tho the subtext is right there (naoto saying "it would be easier if i was born male" when talking about their childhood in their social link, being uncomfortable when dressed femininely, etc) , but it also frames transitioning is a very negative light.

naoto's dungeon has that operating table with the saws and shit as though the "body alteration surgery" (read: gender reassignment) is some dangerous and unethical process and not something that's been around since the 30s. the game itself goes to great lengths to say that naoto's totally happy being a cis girl. other characters will say it like, word for word, and you have to tell naoto you like it when they act girly to start their romance route. like the game has to insist that naoto isn't trans which is just fucking weird?? idk.

and it's in this weird clashing where we get all of this discourse. p4 (the text) insists that naoto is happy as a cis girl, while naoto the trans narrative resonates with people for a reason (that being all the subtext), and the framing of the narrative wants you to believe transitioning makes you unhappy.
