Buttons, knobs, cables, circuit boards, weird instruments, crazy machines, amazing people doing amazing things with music and technology. The lovely Mind the Film people have done an amazing job at Music Hackspace the last year. It feel honoured I had the chance to participate a year ago.

(Even though I’ve been speaking English since like forever, I’m not able to pronounce the “h”phoneme correctly - it always sound as Spanish as jamón.)

Efectes Secundaris is one of the coolest blogs around. Here we talked about A Taste of Sónar+D and the collective experiment we did in 2015 with the Barcelona Computing Center, which tracked people around to study their behaviour.

That day that I went to my cool local tv station to talk about Sónar+D and Virtual Reality. The thing that interests me the most about VR is that it’s a medium where rules haven’t been stablished yet and everything is possible.

Random thoughts on music and VR

Headphones (and walkmans) changed the way we experience music, I doubt VR will. Music don't necessarily need visual support. The visuals come by default embedded with the music (and hyper personalized to every person's imagination and perception).

I do think though that things like Subpac, Basslet and other haptic devices are onto something that can be revolutionary.

The senses other than sight and hearing are soooo neglected in general, and specially in technology.

Two great things I've read today

I shouldn't admit it, but today I've been procrastinating a lot, so I've payed more attention to my rss reader and to the hundred thousand mailing lists I am subscribed to. Distraction has made me stumble upon two fantastic articles. The first one is by Steve Albini, it's the whole transcription of a conference keynote and an update of his super famous text from 93 "The problem with music"

The other article I've found via the awesome mailing list of the Female:Pressure network, it's a manifesto written by Geert Lovink, Sebastian Olma and Ned Rossiter about "The Creative Question". We are fed "creative" bullshit everyday, somehow the word that gave significance to the human capacity to invent and make things, make progress, solve small and big problems, and make beautiful things... seems to me now very very empty.
