Grim Future AU: a breakdown

because they are all so horribly sad.

Just kidding, sort of. ANYWAY here is a long-awaited rundown of our Grim Future au! You can find the completed fic, titled Terrible Things here :)

Just as a precursor, for this universe we have combined bits of the manga into the anime, the latter of which we are much more familiar with. 

The AU starts roughly 10 years after the events of Soul Eater. During these ten years, Liz and Patty, and Maka had passed away in two separate accidents. Sometime in between, Black Star and Tsubaki vanished from Death City, and have not been seen since. Nobody knows why they left or if they are coming back. That left just Kid and Soul in the city, picking up the shards of their life into some shabby semblance of normal. The immortal and the Death Scythe. And Maia, who is the last bit of Maka Soul has left.

As I said, Kid and Soul have managed to build a new sense of normal that works, despite everything. They’re still hurting but at least they can pretend everything’s okay, and focus on making sure Maia is happy. Everything is great until a pair of someones decide to finally come home.

For anyone who wants a deeper look at what goes on in the story instead of/before reading the fic, I’m going to keep on explaining. So, vague spoilers under the cut.

In Somnis Veritas Rating: Mature Summary: Magitek Troopers are excessively advanced, heavily genetically modified clones. That's one thing Noctis learns in the laboratory. The other thing he learns is that somebody ordered them to remove their helmets. He learns that all Magitek Troopers have the same face.

(Ignis and Gladio are the first to find out that what seems to be lifeless metal is so much more, and Noctis learns too late.)

Strawberries, Cream, and Champagne Rating: Teen Summary: Ignis has been having a terrible day watching out for all the bros, and when no one lifts a finger to help him clean or cook, he just bakes an entire cake for dinner and sits there in front of them, eating it slowly and with every sign of enjoyment.

Oh, and just how much does Ignis enjoy every moment of it? 

You have no idea.

Whispers Rating: Teen Summary: The magic of the Crystal is no kind, soft lover; it wraps its fingers around its King's throat and takes what it wants.

Draw Me Like One of Your Altissian Girls Rating: Explicit Summary: In the bold tradition of Final Fantasy VII, somebody needs to have an erotic experience with a cactuar. They also need to enjoy it. An enjoyable erotic experience with a cactuar.

The Chocobros take on a mob hunt that leaves Prompto Confused. A little Cactuar makes everything so much better (and way weirder.)

Loosely tied story of the wild shenanigans the Chocobros get up to when no one is supervising them.

One Night Rating: Explicit Status: In-Progress Summary: "I... uh... I learned how to do something. Since, y'know, I kinda scared off most people. Big dicks kinda do that... You guys want to see?" Prompto pulled away and looked toward Noctis, a little smile pulling at his lips. "You know all those times where you told me to go suck my own dick?"

Glass Spiders AU

AU where Leo’s cursed by an ancient witch who drains his mystic energy to restore her immortality. This puts a strain on Leo’s mental health which draws out his negative emotions and makes him see things like big-ass spiders. It also heightens his emotions and causes mood swings. The witch comes out of hiding every hundred years or so and targets people with a strong mystic energy and/or people who are in a state of emotional distress. There are two ways to get rid of this curse

a) let it run it’s course

b) find and kill the witch

Finding the witch is extremely difficult and killing her is even more so. Letting the curse run its course will make Leo wither away until he’s just a shell (pun unintended) of who he is and some people don’t even survive this

1) I’m most proud of these pieces. I had low expectations but they turned out really well and are a couple of my favorites

I’m also really proud of the art trade I did with @2aceofspades . It was super fun and we knocked out 3 drawing which was awesome. These were mine <3

2) the obvious answer is all the fanart we’ve gotten for EMD this year. Teaa and I both really appreciate and adore receiving art for the au and even just seeing your guys’ reactions in the tags and comments. ALSO @teaableu’s animatic for the EMD finale!! It was insane and everyone should check it out if you havent. Link

The separated council's mass collab was also a super fun post to see. Everyone did an amazing job! unrelated to EMD, I really enjoyed reading @cokoweee's kendratello comic. @chessman-protocol's covert au was another fun 2024 discovery. I also enjoyed seeing @pasteilian, @djpachipikachu, @quartergremlin, @xinrouska, @choiyw051108, and @andysuriano's art pop on my dashboard and learning more about @reagi-df's different aus @klunkcat's The Other Side of Paradise amv is worth mentioning bc it made me sad/pos I'm a sucker for angsty amvs so this is automatically one of my favorite things

I discovered @office-anomaly's blog. Tuheir scooby-doo fanart is so good! Kudos, I love ur art

I also discovered some fun communities closer to the end of the year, mainly Frogblr, where people just post pictures of frogs and it makes me so smiley

Lastly @intotheelliwoods's secret santa gift basically wrapped up the whole year for me in a nice little bow. THANK YOU ELL I HAVE THIS AS MY WALLPAPER SO I CAN LOOK AT IT EVERY DAY <3 <3 <3

1 and 14 for the behind the scenes prompts!

Start to finish, how long did it take to plan and write? Did you take breaks during the process?

For EMD it took about 3+ months to plan, since I came up with the idea in October and didn't start writing until January. There was a lot Teaa and I wanted to change from the original ideas/drafts, so we had to rework some bits which took some more planning. Even season 2 isn't fully fleshed out yet as Teaa and I are still tweaking the character arcs and plot. Yes, we take breaks dw dw

14. Talk about the fic's opening scene and how you approached it.

The opening scene/chapter for season 1 is how I imagined the story would start if it was an actual show or a part of rise. One of the things I knew for sure is that I wanted to introduce Raph and Mikey first and have the readers explore the new world through their eyes rather than One and Two's because I wanted to ease into their backstory instead of dumping it in the first chapter
