Thinking of Lucaya while I’m high and you, my friends, are lucky enough for a little view of the insanity that is my mind on some edibles.

Ooooookay all, I’m probably going to hate myself later for posting this… or maybe I won’t because I’ll probably forget I even posted this and last time I was high I realized that my brain has a problem with past and present tenses, and mixes them together (is this some kind of learning disability or something? Or maybe I don’t do it when I’m sober and My brain only does it when I’m high… now I don’t even fucking know and I don’t know if I ever will. Ughhh.

Annnnyways… my Lucaya thoughts/epiphanies/whatever, for your enjoyment… and I apologize for this whole post. I don’t even know if I want any notifications because I’m worried about regretting this tomorrow…

🤯If Lucas thinks that Maya, the girl he wants doesn’t like him of course he’s going to ‘choose’ Riley, where is his choice? The girl he likes, likes someone else. And Riley’s one of his best friends, he can’t just say, “weeeeeeell, Riley it’s been fun and all, but… ”. If he did, that would make him a huge asshole, so where does he really get a choice in this situation? 🤯 HE WAS A COMPLETE FUCKING IDIOT FOR AGREEING TO HAVING A TRIANGLE IN THE FIRST PLACE. If he wasn’t a fucking idiot, he would have bided his time and waited until the other other one (😉😏) moved on with someone else and then took his chance with the one he wanted.

Meanwhile, Josh Matthews is taking advantage of Maya’s protective instincts, saying that Maya only liked Lucas to PROTECT Riley and see if he was GOOD enough for her. What fucking Bull and it explained something so FUCKING MUCH!!! MAYA SAYING LUCAS WAS A GOOD GUY, WHEN SHE TALKED TO HIM AT THE SKI LODGE

A collection of my thoughts and headcanons to improve TFATWS

(Warning: Long post ahead!)

I was rewatching The Last of Us the other night and I really appreciated how, in a 9 episode (10 really with the 2ep pilot), it delivered so much plot momentum while still delving into multiple characters' backstories, with multiple episodes almost entirely devoted to flashbacks.

Like... with a somewhat modified plot and longer run time, TFATWS could've added so much backstory for both Sam and Bucky. Hell, they didn't mind spending CGI de-aging money on Fury in Secret Invasion so we could've used a little here too, no?

So, in a similar series structure, we could've had a 2ep opening pilot, really setting the foundational themes, then after Walker gets introduced as Walmart Cap, the next episode (after the recap) could've opened with an almost entirely flashback episode of Sam's time in the air force. (Walker might’ve even been in Afghanistan at the same time, depending on age/Blip years, etc. if you wanted to show them crossing paths, show Walker's always been entitled and a loose cannon, etc).

The episode could've A) shown Sam's awesome Falcon skills as a pararescue, B) given us Riley, whose loss we'd see echoed in Sam's grief and mixed emotions about Steve (and NAT!), and C) could've shown more Sam's reasons for being anti-authority and anti-institutional power, and a distrust in power structures that change their minds and agendas.

A headcanon I've had for a while is that even though Sam and Riley were trained and deployed as pararescue, eventually, maybe after their first tour trialling the EXO-7s, the military higher-ups realised that the Falcons could get in and out of certain regions/facilities, far better than a lot of other special forces crew. This meant that very quickly, Sam and Riley were being pulled from their pararescue unit and sent on more and more ops that weren't what they signed up for. Weren't of the 'rescue and recovery, saving people, bringing them home' variety. And this would weigh heavily on Sam's morals. Not only does he either not get all the info on these ops or doesn't agree with them, but he's also leaving his unit, the 58th, without him. Which could lead to guilt if some of his fellow soldiers are killed or wounded and not rescued in time, because the Falcons weren't there to save them. And of course, Riley's eventually death perhaps resulting from one of these dangerous ops. (Covered up officially as that 'standard night mission' which is all Sam's allowed to say.)

I think something like that could've shown Sam's disillusionment with government agencies and military institutions (especially when propped up by propaganda). And mirrored comments made by both Steve and Sam in Winter Solider and Civil War.

"Agendas change."

"What if this sends us somewhere we don't think we should go? What if there's somewhere we need to go and they don't let us?"

"How long you gonna play both sides?"

Part of Sam's reluctance in taking up the shield could've been his past experience in his abilities being turned to something he didn't sign up for and ultimately misused. (Also a parallel to Bucky!) A conversation prior to Riley's death, between him and Sam, could've shown that growing distrust in what they've been made to do.

Anyway, then (this post's already too long lol), later in the season, there's an almost entirely Bucky-centric flashback episode (like Ellie's ep7 in TLoU). Maybe Sam's injured and in hospital after the fight with Walker for the shield (but also Lemar doesn't get killed, because i say so), and this leaves Bucky in crisis mode for personal and plot reasons.

I haven't nailed down the specifics of these flashbacks as much, but the general scope would include: Bucky being drafted (not freely enlisting), seeing his family happy pre-War (little Rebecca?!), Hydra (not torture porn, just as in he's turned into a weapon and ties in with his guilt/list later), hiding out post CAWS (bonus points if Sam DID find Bucky first, I can't help it 😉), isolation, but sees someone that embodies so much that's good and worth believing in (Sam), starting to heal in Wakanda (like with Ayo) (again, bonus points if Sam's there at least once).

All that to say, Bucky's themes could highlight his displacement and disenfranchisement from his time, all his family, himself, and that clawing back of identity and belief in Good Things. And because in my scenario, I have Sam incapacitated to prompt this time of Bucky self-reflection, these flashbacks show that Sam is one of those Good Things that Bucky has grown to believe in and gravitate to. Which shows onscreen WHY he's been so adamant that Sam take up the shield. (Even though he went about this is a counter-intuitive and unhelpful way, we can fix this too). Sam inspired good in him, 'brought him home' (pararescue parallel!), and Bucky believes Sam can do the same for a broken world.

*Sam obviously wakes up, plot continues, he goes home while Bucky (being unable to verbalise yet everything we the audience now understands) has gone off to find Zemo, beg Wakanda for a fancy, over the top, 'I'm sorry I've been a dick, but I love you, I believe in you, and this is here should you choose it and if you need it' apology proposal present.

(I jest. This can all be read as strictly MCU-approved platonic. But this is tumblr, and me, so let's be real 😉)

I also would add, in the last episode, when Bucky is in NY, a scene of him contacting an older Rebecca. (Maybe this is something Sam asks him early in the show if he's done yet and Bucky brushes off, aggravated. Showing that he knows he has family alive, but his fear and other issues have been keeping him from reaching out - like what's kept him from Sam.) Because then you have back to back scenes of Bucky reconnecting to his old family, leading right into the dock party with Sam (his new family!) Visually showing he's healing that bridge of displacement and isolation.

Anyway, if you've stuck around to the end, thank you! That's how I would've incorporated flashbacks into a rough approximation of a TFATWS show to flesh out Sam and Bucky in relation to the show's themes and each other. (Obviously, we could fix all the Flagsmasher, power broker, serum stuff too. But the general plot outline still works for the purpose of this idea.)

OH BOY this takes me back hahahaha. good god, that was a wild time on tumblr.

back in the day, we had fairly legit groupies (often times sleeping casually with Oli/Calvin and 1d’s other friends), who always said that H and L would never pull and always politely decline. They said that if a “groupie” said they’d slept with Harry, that’s how you knew they weren’t legit, because those two never pulled.

Now, im not saying every story we heard from the groupies was true, but the “receipts” we got from some of the ones who weren’t in a trusted friendship with the bigger 1d blogs here at the time, that weren’t trusted by us, often said the most ridiculous things. I’d recommend checking out a bunch of groupie chats here, to gauge a little more about what was going on at this time during the fandom. It was wild.

Anywho, yes, this was debunked. Antis like to use it because you can hear Zayn… but you can’t hear Harry? Why tf is Harry there but dead quiet and not saying anything? Also, of course they’d be aware that phone calls with them would be recorded. It was all just a bit of a mismatched shit show of a wattpad story.

Now, IF this was legit, would Zayn just be using Harry’s name to encourage the girls to come up? Isn’t he himself an international superstar? He wouldn’t need to convince them to come because Harry is there. But it does sound a whole lot like he’s trying to convince these girls which is ridiculous like I wouldn’t need any convincing at all, but these gals would like to think they’re heavily in demand and the boys were just desperate to sleep with them like come onnnnnnnnn.

It was debunked by groupies who weren’t Larries and were actually antis, larries, and some other antis lol. If I remember correctly, we analysed the audio and found that some bits were actually snippets of interviews or the voices had been doctored or faked or something. It was kind of decided somewhat unanimously that it was faked.

But don’t doubt larry because of this shit. People went to some crazy lengths back in the day.

Saw the movie "Talk to Me" with my Mom today. We both really liked it. I'd give it 5 outta 5 Spirit Communing Hands. I do, however, have thoughts and questions. Will put under the cut because it will be long. Also SPOILERS.

Both my Mom and I agreed that we dislike Sue and Jade. At first, I thought I might have been overreacting when I thought Sue was being a bit much, but then my Mom leaned over and whispered, "Wow, she's a cunt." So, it was good to know my Mom also disliked her. She just seemed somewhat controlling in a way. Jade just seemed like a shit friend to Mia and shit sister to Riley. I'm assuming from the context we're giving they've known each other for a long time, long enough to consider each other family. So, Jade would definitely know it's the day of Mia's Mom's 2year memorial, and still actively ignored her phone calls. She also ignored Riley's phone calls when he wanted to get picked up from the skatepark. She then left the room when he was pleading to play the game. Not saying what happened to him was her fault, cause it was Mia's for caving and agreeing, but Jade shouldn't have stormed off after telling him no. Now, while I fully trust my best friend to back me if I told my little brother "No" to something, I still wouldn't just walk out of the room and leave them there with said game still out. All that being said, I have questions I hope the possible prequal or sequel will answer. Are the spirits actually who they say they are? My Mom and I talked about this on the way home. Was that really Mia's Mom? Is it possible that another spirit was pretending to be her Mom in order to either off herself and/or Riley? Why would her Mom's spirit claim her death wasn't suicide, but her Dad is saying it was? Who it telling the truth? Like the note Max read to Mia is a very plausible thing. If her Mom was on anti-depressants, she could have very well been having what for her was a "good couple days" which could easily have led to her killing herself (it's why suicidal thoughts are a warning on those kinds of medications). We don't get enough info on either of her parents in this film though so it's hard to say. Also, how did Riley get better? Was it because Mia died, and the ghosts just needed a death sacrifice to move off of Riley?

Nancy Drew 1x16: The Haunting of Nancy Drew

The thing is before Nace were ever a thing, Fanson was great. I don't root for Fanson because of Nace, I root for Fanson on its own merits, while I hated Nancy and Nick as a couple.

Ace can hack in 2 minutes, and should absolutely have been snapped up by some kind of government agency at this point.

Another theme for this episode: poor, poor Ryan. The face acting Riley does in this episode! His father made the love of his life kill herself, and he has to deal with the fact that she died thinking Ryan hated her.

People remember the events of 20 years ago with startling clarity.

Lucy, someone who was at least 16, has the journal of a 5 year old.

Again, gonna put it out there that the people who ensured Lucy's death, a pregnant child, were the people of Horseshoe Bay. Don't know if I'd defend them hard if I were Carson.

Excellent casting, because I do see Lucy's facial features in Nancy.

Hoo boy, here we go. Let's start this with a disclaimer: I know that the internet is where nuance goes to die, but I want to make it clear I am not anti-adoption. I also fully recognize that many birth mothers, through their own free choice and zero coersion, choose to place their babies for adoption, and even if they had access to resources, this is the choice they would make. I am not calling that unethical. I'm also aware I am applying my own personal ethical issues with adoption to a fictional TV show. Okay, we good? Okay, let's get into it.

Lucy Sable was a (presumably) 16 year old child who had been relentlessly bullied into an incredibly emotional state, had just given birth, and had thought the love of her life hated her and never wanted to see her again. This is not a person in a clear emotional state, capable of making long-term decisions. I get that they absolutely did not know that Lucy would jump off the cliff, but Carson justifying everything with "Lucy wanted this. This was Lucy's wish. We didn't tell the Hudsons because Lucy wanted this" is somewhat understandable but frankly also a load of shit.

Lucy did not know the truth. Ryan deserved to know the truth. Nancy deserved to know the truth. I find it very hard to accept that Carson and Kate were "honoring Lucy's wishes" by never telling her (and never planning on telling her) that she was adopted, and never telling Ryan, robbing him of the opportunity to raise Nancy, or even to know Nancy. I get that Everett couldn't know. That does not mean Ryan couldn't, and that does not mean Nancy couldn't, especially as an adult, and the thing is, Carson gaslit her the entire season and would have continued to lie to Nancy if she hadn't figured out the truth on her own.

A whole whack of Nancy's identity issues are thanks to Carson and Kate, who refused to tell Nancy who she really was. Adopted children deserve to know, and know about, their birth families. It is very easy, as we have seen, to use a teenager's tragic and highly emotional situation for their own benefits. So Carson trying constantly to justify himself as having done the right thing is...that's hard to get over.

While I absolutely believe love makes family too, biology is an interwoven part of who a person is, and never acknowledging the birth parent or family as part of an adoptee's story is...harmful to say the least.

I know Nancy and Ryan forgave Carson, but that's always going to stick at the back of my mind. Yes, Nancy was his. He was her father. I get that, and I know that was real in Nancy's mind too. She was also Lucy's. And she was Ryan's. And his refusal to acknowledge that is....ehh.

I suppose we'll get more ranting next episode, but that's the core of it.

5 Twisted Book Recommendations for People who have a Dark Sense of Humor...

1.) Beautiful Darkness by: Kerascoët

The novel tells the tale of Aurora, a girl who finds herself taking a leadership role in her community after a horrible disaster occurs... The story starts out with a whimsical tone, but rapidly devolves into a more morbid narrative.

Beautiful Darkness is wickedly good and creepy. Surreal, surprisingly disturbing, and well...dark.

The twists in this made my jaw drop. Especially the initial one. It acts as sort of an anti-fairytale of sorts. Complemented with its cute, cartoon- ish, and simplistic art style. Its pleasant watercolors and... super bloody deaths and graphic violence. Obviously!

There is so much to unpack in this gorgeous graphic novel. Themes of death and mortality, the innate savagery within humankind, and so much more than I can get into here.

2.) The Bunny Suicides by: Andy Riley

Over The Top and hilarious. This is a series of feel good comic strips with no solid plot lines except for featuring cutsie creatures, (bunnies in this case) attempting a single goal: to die in the most brutally and over complicated ways imaginable. As a depressive person myself… I found this hilarious. As the name suggests, this was exactly that. A bunch of bunnies “ “unaliving “ themselves in a darkly humorous fashion. And somehow there was humor to be found in its gruesome yet, not gratuitous pages, unlike *ahem* some other shows with similar punchlines…

For me, this was what “Happy Tree Friends" was trying to be… Slightly edgy, fairly dark, outwardly innocent, and weirdly—fun?

3.) Dead Weight: Murder at Camp Bloom by: Terry Blas

✨Camp✨ is in the name and in the game for this graphic novel. When a group of misfit kids staying at a fat camp for the summer find out that one of the councilors have been brutally murdered, it's up to them to find out who did it, and if the killer plans on striking again… There's a nice diversity to the characters here, and their sleuthing reminded me of the Mystery Gang meets Sleep Away Camp. The art style was round and soft, and was somewhat reminiscent of the Gravity Falls art style to me.

5.) Stray Dogs by: Tony Fleecs

Stray Dogs, written by Tony Fleecs and illustrated by Trish Forstner follows a group of canine friends that wouldn't be out of place in a G-rated movie. But instead of discovering the power of friendship, they use their limited detective skills to uncover that their new owner is, in fact, a serial killer. Stray Dogs, is a strange mix of a cute Disney movie, meets "Silence of the Lambs." The overarching mystery pulled me in instantly, and the hits keep coming.

6.) I Kill Giants by: Joe Kelly

I Kill Giants is the story of a loner at school escaping into a fantasy world. But all is not as it seems with Barbara, and Barbara is not what they think she seems to the children at school that torment her, her family, or her only friend. Because Barbara has a secret: She kills Giants.

The art was sketchy, and simplistic, but charming.I liked the simple main character design. Which remained distinct, while also not trying too hard to be quirky.

Roberto's Spooky Season Binge 2024: Talk To Me

It's my favorite time of the year! Spooky Season!!! For this year's binge I decided to start with last year's big horror hit "Talk To Me". I never got around to watching it and figured it was a great way to start! Last year, I watched a bunch of horror movies and ranked them at the end of the month. I'm basically doing that again, but putting in slightly more effort this year for fun! Enjoy! Spoilers ahead!

Okay so first things first, I really enjoyed it. I was never really ever scared or too horrified, but then again I'm not the target audience for this one! That's because, as it turns out, this is the most teen anti-drugs/D.A.R.E feeling movie I've seen in a while! And as a teen anti-drug horror movie, it succeeds! It does get a little heavy-handed in it's metaphors and imagery (Mi's immediate euphoric reaction after her first time and the fact that the sessions  happen at the cool/bad kids parties). The movie is a good look on how trauma and grief can destroy a young person's life, and how easily it can lead to things like addiction, depression, dangerous sexual behaviors, and suicidal tendencies.

Having the hard drug in question be the embalmed severed hand of a dead medium that let's you talk to ghosts and let them possess you is an inspired idea. The casual introduction to the possessions in the movie stands out. The possessions are scary, but the settings and characters actions towards them highlights the films anti-drug intentions by reflecting the real-worlds casual, almost resigned attitudes towards teen drug use/deaths. The casual, party-like attitude towards the supernatural remains that way throughout a good chunk of the movie until, like in any good anti-drug movie, a much younger kid tries it out during a party and gets seriously hurt. Riley's possession was easily the most disturbing and scary scene in the movie. It more than earns its R rating here, and though I'm fairly desensitized to horror, this scene could prove too much for some viewers, especially if you're sensitive to seeing children hurt in movies.

Mia as a main character is serviceable for this spooky cautionary tale. Her motivations and feelings are made clear immediately with very little dialogue and screen time. Her arc is unfortunately predictable, but maybe that's the point here. Still, I wish the character was a bit more fleshed out because the actress puts on a solid performance. I hope she comes back to horror because she has potential scream-queen energy. 

So the movie never takes any weird turns or wavers in it's dedication to getting it's points across. Some may find this annoying, but to them I would say, hey, live a little! Horror stories have always served as cautionary tales for the young since the very beginning! And this is a pretty neat, if somewhat narratively straightforward, addition to the the lore! I don't have kids, but this is one I would save to watch with my hypothetical teen and discuss it afterwards! I have no doubt this movie hits better (sorry, had to do it) if you're actually a teen who's routinely exposed to risky situations and peer pressure.

I was thoroughly entertained throughout and I would definitely recommend a watch, especially if you're young (do it with friends!) The movie doesn't take any risks narratively and some of it can be a little heavy-handed, but it was never enough to make me hate it. While it may never live up to the promise of it's interesting concept, it is a solid horror film to enjoy for the season!

Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin is continuing efforts to exacerbate the divide between the Wagner Group and the Russian MoD. Prigozhin’s press service published a video on June 4 showing a Wagner fighter interrogating a Russian soldier who identified himself as Lieutenant Colonel Roman Venevitin of the 72nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (3rd Army Corps).[24] Venevitin admitted on camera that he ordered his unit to fire on a Wagner vehicle while intoxicated due to his own “personal animosity” towards Wagner.[25] Venevitin appeared to have sustained facial injuries during the time of his capture by Wagner.[26] Prigozhin also claimed that Wagner personnel engaged in a small skirmish with Russian MoD personnel in Semihirya (15km southeast of Bakhmut) on May 17 after the MoD personnel fired on Wagner fighters when they tried to stop the MoD personnel from laying mines in Wagner’s rear.[27] As ISW has previously assessed, Prigozhin continues to inject such anti-MoD narratives into the Russian information space in order to retain his status in the information space following the culmination of Wagner’s Bakhmut offensive and Wagner’s withdrawal from combat in Ukraine.[28] The suggestion that units operating under the Russian MoD are actively firing on Wagner while intoxicated strengthens Prigozhin’s argument that the Russian MoD is a combat-ineffective and somewhat nefarious force.

Russian milbloggers responded to the video of Lieutenant Colonel Venevitin with concern, indicating that several prominent pro-war voices are becoming increasingly concerned over the ramifications of the Wagner-MoD divide. One prominent milblogger called for Venevitin to be tried by the military prosecutor’s office, which would be normal practice in such cases, but noted that the Wagner-MoD conflict “continues to be unhealthy.”[29] Another milblogger who claimed to have personally spoken to Wagner commanders accused both Wagner and MoD units of not knowing what they are fighting for and all of trying to outcompete each other to be “heroes.”[30] Former Russian officer and prominent critical milblogger Igor Girkin noted that the video of Venevitin is another step towards “troubles” regardless of the circumstances of the incident and that Prigozhin is provoking an open war between units ostensibly on the same side of the war.[31] As Prigozhin continues his efforts to maintain informational relevance his rhetorical charades will likely further deepen the divide between the MoD and Wagner, thus hindering the overall combat-effectiveness of both forces and additionally generating increasing discontent in the information space that used to back him.

Also, two of the pairings he referred to in his quote to support this assertion were Buffy/Riley and Fred/Gunn. And it’s like, Joss, sweetie, of course audiences didn’t take to those pairings; you set them up to fail.

With Riley, we have Buffy/Angel, a hugely popular pairing, having just broken up, and despite Angel being spun off to his own show, the writers were unwilling to completely give him up and definitely refused to give up this idea of Buffy and Angel being star-crossed soulmates love of each other lives. And then here comes Riley, who is very overtly written to be the anti-Angel, which is only going to piss people off even more.

Then we have the Gunn-Fred-Wesley love triangle, which is always going to be a somewhat risky proposition that fans are going to latch onto the love interest who isn’t meant to be chosen. But then Joss just loves subverting audience expectations, so the writers go out of their way to make it look like Wesley is going to be the one Fred gets together with, just so they can surprise twist us with her having actually been interested in Gunn all along. Joss, you cannot do that in a love triangle, what the fuck! A surprising plot twist can be fun and ultimately satisfying, but if we can’t see the romance coming then it is a poorly written romance. (And that’s without even getting into the way racism is going to play into audience reactions.)

Frankly, I don’t think either Buffy/Riley or Fred/Gunn are as well-written as Joss probably thinks they are, but also it doesn’t matter. When you set them up like that a lot of people are going to dislike them regardless.

Just read a quote by Joss Whedon (an old one from the Buffy era) complaining that people don’t like it when fictional characters have happy and healthy relationships. And it’s like oh, honey, do people not like that, or are you just bad at writing it?

You felt sick to your stomach.

The girl in the body-clad dress felt the same, apparently. She was attempting her best at a polite smile as she courteously continued to nod at Mr. Rosier’s animated retelling of how he taught that ‘ladyboy’ a lesson.

“I told him, there is no place in my office for men in skirts! Ungodly, that is,” his laughter roared. The others joined in.

You stepped over to the table, carrying a tray full of their dinners. They did not heed you as you placed the plates in front of them.

It was then when you noticed Rosier’s hand that was placed over the girl’s thigh, somewhat possessively. She squirmed uncomfortably under the touch.

That was the last straw. You tipped over your wrist, letting the plates come crashing down on Mr. Rosier.

Mr. Rosier sprung to his feet, dripping tomato soup from head to toe. “What the hell are you doing?!” he screeched, the tomato shaking at the tip of his nose.

“Oh, my apologies, Mr. Rosier,” any hint of emotion was devoid from your tone. You cautiously sent a subtle wink at the other girl, who bit down on her lip to stop herself from grinning ear to ear. “Here, let me take you to a different table.” You scurried off to another table to grab a few napkins.

“I swear, you’ll be sorry when you’re handing in your resignation!” he continued to swear in a resemblance of blast-ended skrewts as you cleaned up after the mess.

“I say, Mr. Rosier, we postpone the meeting to another day,” it was the voice of a young man that caused you to lift your head up. It was not every day that you heard an inexperienced young man at a restaurant like this, with people like these. And especially, if that voice held a certain power in the room.

It was then that you realised that the man’s eyes were not directed at Mr. Rosier, despite addressing him. He was looking at you, his eyes sparkling in amused curiosity, his lips suppressing a playful smirk. 

You wondered if he knew that was intentional.  He probably did.

“Oh, but Mr. Riddle!” So that was his name. A muggle name. Even more surprising to be dining with the likes of Rosier. “I’m sure Mr. Spencer-Moon will have a great interest in what I have to say!” Mr. Rosier stammered.

“Actually,” Mr. Riddle stood up with poise, and placed a hand on Mr. Rosier’s shoulder, somewhat threateningly. “I think I’ve understood quite well what your proposition will entail,” his hand extended to the door with a smile that did not reach his eyes. He did not offer his hand for a handshake.

Mr. Rosier went even redder, perhaps more than the tomato soup itself, if that was possible. He shook in rage, and after sending a glare towards you, stomped out of the room with the girl, his accountant and lawyers running closely behind.

Your shoulder dropped with a sigh as he disappeared behind the door. Your eyes shifted to Mr. Riddle, who you assessed to be some secretary to Minister Leonard Spencer-Moon: the fastest track to becoming the Minister. A decent man, from what you’ve read in the papers. Mr. Riddle sounded decent enough as well.

“Apologies, Mr. Riddle,” you grabbed another clean napkin for Mr. Riddle, who was unfortunately in the ‘splash-zone’: a few spots of red visible on his tuxedo.

Mr. Riddle frowned and hummed, unable to speak at the moment of being caught licking the soup off his thumb. Your eyes caught his puckered lips lingering on the thumb. “No, not at all,” he finally spoke up, wiping his fingers on the napkin in the end. “Spared me from an awkward conversation.”

You took a step towards him to start dabbing away at the stains. But, his hand wrapped around yours. “Thanks, but I can manage,” he breathed out and slid the napkin out of your fingers.

“Clumsy?” his eyes narrowed down at you as his playful smirk widened. 

So he definitely knew.

You shrugged, “Happens every time, actually.” You chuckled at the absolutely delightful idea of pouring tomato sauce on every customer that came to this restaurant.

“I’ll make a note never to dine here, then,” Mr. Riddle’s chuckle was deep and clear. The kind of laughter that made you want to trust him. You figured that was a prerequisite for any politician.

You grimaced awkwardly and crouched on the floor to pick up the broken pieces of plate, hoping that your boss would never hear a word of you driving away customers like Mr. Riddle. But, then again, your boss would learn about this incident from Mr. Rosier anyways.

You were starting to perhaps regret your decision when a shadow fell over your hands. You looked up to find Mr. Riddle, crouching, picking up the broken ceramic pieces as well and placing them in a handkerchief carefully spread over his hand.

“Oh no, please, Mr. Riddle,” you reached for the pieces in his hands, “You don’t have to do that.”

Mr. Riddle quietly moved the pieces out of your reach, his eyes remaining on the pieces on the floor as he continued to pick them up. Yet, that playful smile still played on his lips. You stared at him for a while in shock. Well, this was a first. Especially in a restaurant like this and the kind of guests you catered to. 

But then again, an extremely young man like Mr. Riddle came to dine here. You didn’t know what to expect anymore.

“You’re staring at me,” his quiet murmur brought you back from your thoughts.

“Sorry,” you snapped out of it, feeling guilty that in the meantime, you had made Mr. Riddle do your work. “Just surprised,” you added.

A frown of confusion clouded his eyes. You thought it was such a shame for a frown to appear on such a beautiful face. “Surprising… for me to help?”

A single syllable of dry laughter involuntarily escaped your lips. “You would then be surprised by the kind of customers that come here, Mr. Riddle.”

Mr. Riddle only hummed. He actually looked a bit upset with his lower bottom bitten, you regretted. An awkward silence fell between you two. You busied yourself with trying to scrub the tomato soup out of the carpet. You just had to spill tomato soup, you bit your tongue at the tomato soup that was refusing to come off. Your mother used to tell you, tomatoes, chocolate, and wine were the most difficult things to get off. You wiped the hair out of your forehead with the back of your hand.

Your eyes did a double-take when you noticed that Mr. Riddle was again staring at you. “You’re staring, Mr. Riddle,” this time you murmured. Under his piercing gaze, it was hard to avert your eyes.

He did not respond. His unblinking eyes trained on you. You stiffened when he leaned over towards you. You were trying your hardest not to draw back when he brought his hands up to your face. His right hand cupped your cheek, his other hand following closely behind. 

The rough texture of the napkin grazed your cheek. His eyes remained focused on your left cheek, which you now understood there to be some splashes of the tomato soup.

You held your breath as you stared up into his eyes. Despite the flashing smiles and courteous remarks, you thought you saw something flash in his eyes. His lips twitched into what came across as a restrained smile.

“Just some…,” he murmured awkwardly, for once breaking the confident facade, “tomato on your cheek.”

His fingers were so soft against your cheeks. It seemed as if he was almost afraid to touch you, afraid that he could break you or scare you with one wrong move. You watched him lean back a bit. His eyes softened with a slight nod to himself, now content with the result, he withdrew his handkerchief.

It was then that you noticed that he had used his personal handkerchief, a silk white handkerchief with his initials embroidered: T.R. Your mind wandered as to what the T could stand for. Theodore? Timothy? Triton was a common name in the wizarding world, but if he had a muggle last name…

“Thomas?” you tilted your head up at him.

“Tom,” he corrected, his eyes crinkling in response. “A bit disadvantageous though,” he scratched the back of his head, gesturing down to the initial with a toss of his hand, “having such a mundane muggle name in a political career.”

“I was wondering, Mr. Riddle,” you decided to refer to him with his last name considering the previous comment, “if you would let me wash this first before returning it to you?”

"Of course,” his fingers gently held your chin for a moment as he flashed a smile down at you. “If it means I’ll get to see you again."

His smile felt like melting on the spot like warm butter in the sun. It was enough to daze you, blankly staring up at his eyes.

You blinked the fog away from your dream when Mr. Riddle stood up. And before you knew it, Mr. Riddle was already walking out of the room with his hands tucked into his pockets, leaving you to wonder what it was about him that drew so many to him.

Including you.

why auscap.. whys he australian… i need to know this lore.. it keeps me up at night

glad u asked because im so insane but everyone* i talk to just accepts auscap without question and it hnngngh

so for a little backstory it started in september last year** when i went away with a family friend who had also watched centricide and i asked "wouldnt it be funny if ancap centricide was australian" and there wasnt a single thought behind our eyes when we unaimoiusly agreed yes that would be funny and que the next 2 or so months of being the most annoying headcanoner ever but hey it was fun.

at the same time i was in 9th grade english class in australia and our topic was poetry analysis of silly bogans pre/during the gold rush and the more we analysed the more i was like "hey this shits kinda like ancap centricide" because idk if you have ever been in an australian english/history class but theres a lot of talk about the "[white] australian identity" mainly around when brits began moving here outside of sendign their convicts and during ww1. and the australian identity is mostly centred around being somewhat anti authoritarian and while not technically based in capitalism it was about rich british people getting a taste of the bush and not shutting up ever

because of [white] australias history being in the convicts sent over from england theres an intrinsic sense of anti authoritarianism that was albiet a lot more common in the 19th and 20th centuries but i digress its still relevant idc because it was used in these little bushmen shit where they would idolise this life living outside the government at the time

so the poem that we used for the exam at the end of year 9 english unit 4, while i dont rember the name of the poem nor the writer, i do remember what it was about and what it was about was this guy writing for 6 fucking pages about the bush and how it was so cool and literally made for him he loves it so much and at the back of the pages there was a little biography of the author and you find out that this fucking guy hadnt stepped foot in australia before turning thirty, hes some rich fucking english bloke who came over for the gold rush and left almost immediatly after. the poem we were analysing came from a guy who had never even seen the bush !!! and idk i think thats pretty ancap core

and for a last round of background info from september-november 2021 i actually dmed jreg back n forth about it and ended up getting jrem to confirm auscap as real, and it was real for a whole month before the gender tier list stream on twitch where i asked and jre said that ideologies cant have nationalities um !!! thats not what u told me in dms !!!! also i didnt have any socials at the time that interacted with the centricide fandom apart from my discord so if u were in the authunity server i am NOT sorry for being so annoying about it

Does this sort of thing also happen in the WSL? I hope not, but I really don't know.

I mean, I really don't know - I obviously really hope not and there's certainly not been anything (to my knowledge) made public but that obviously doesn't mean it's not happened. EDIT: I'd somehow completely forgotten about Mark Sampson, and the rumours about Bignot and Hayes...

Even so, the NWSL system of drafts, player rights being held by teams, and trades means that players have a lot less autonomy and therefore the managers/coaches/owners of their teams potentially have more power over them than in other leagues like the FAWSL. In most other leagues players go into a contract with a club for a certain number of years (usually 1-3) and once that contract is finished they have free rein to go wherever they want, or their club can choose to sell them or loan them out to another team before their contract is finished but, importantly, the player has to be in agreement with this. Players have a lot more power over their own destiny than those in the NWSL have historically had - things are changing a bit with free agency in the NWSL but not really for the majority of players yet. I think players' lack of power/agency over their careers makes these awful situations much much easier to occur - their careers are often in the hands of people who do not necessarily have their best interests at heart and as we've seen with Riley are capable of really abusing that power.

I also think that given that the FAWSL is run by the FA, which will (I hope) have a lot of policies in place for player protection, it would be harder for managers to get away with this behaviour. You'd hope, but again - who knows! Also, the NWSL Players Association (their union) has only been in existence since 2017, so for only 4 of the 10 years of the league's existence. As such, with no anti-harassment policies and no union to turn to these players really had very few places to turn to for support or representation against abuse/their clubs/the league. WSL players belong to the PFA (the Professional Footballers Association) which is a union for all current and former footballers in the FAWSL, Premier League and EFL. It is a longstanding and powerful union and therefore protects players' rights and represents them when needed. A strong union is so important and it's slightly terrifying that the NWSL players didn't have one for so long - I think partly due to the strange system of having federation players (allocated USWNT and CANWNT players) who are represented by their own unions and all the other players in the league being somewhat separate.
