"you really can't be calling me at this hour anymore." suguru's voice is faint. he's likely just woken up from a deep slumber, probably dreaming of something far more interesting and attractive than you are, but that isn't a dream that you'd like to picture. he did this to you.

sometimes, he needs to see what your nightmares look like.

"i'm sorry, it's just that i've been thinking about everything again." clearing your throat, you can't help but notice that your voice can't stop shaking. get a grip of yourself. you're embarrassing. "i feel like we made a mistake. it's not crazy to try things again; we know what went wrong so let's just fix it this time. right? we can be even better this time around."

you know the hopefulness slipping from your tongue is something that suguru has grown to hate. he hates the guilt that it makes him feel. he hates the reminders of a time where he was so madly in love with you that he couldn't imagine sleeping through one of your sporadic phone calls in the middle of the night. he hates how it reminds him how hard you sobbed when he said those three little words. not 'i love you'...but 'let's break up'.

he hates that it makes him regret things.

so instead, he forces you to bottle it all up.

"i'm not interested anymore, i've told you that." the sound of your poorly mended heart shattering once more is far too familiar. "seriously, we crashed and burned so let's just leave it at that."

this is the third time he's said these words. the first being an hour after he dumped you over the phone, when you called him back amidst uncontrollable sobs and he didn't seem to care all that much. the second being a month after what would've been your first anniversary together, to which he was careless with your heart as you poured it out to him on his doorstep. now, the third, where it's been a whole three months since your untimely break up and your sleep has been lost to you for yet another night.

...and he still doesn't care.

he doesn't care about you.

he doesn't care at all.

why doesn't he care?

"suguru, please." it's pathetic to beg, but what else can you do? "i love you. i want to be with you and i'm willing to do anything to make it work. c'mon, work with me, here." just say yes. just say yes and maybe you'll smile again.

he takes a deep breath. you can count down the seconds until he exhales.

three.

you envision a scenario where he bolts from his bed, frantically grabs his jacket, and drives straight to your house. his hand hovers over the front door, ready to knock, when you fling it open and then fling yourself into his arms. suguru laughs at your eagerness, gently gripping your face beneath your jaw and kissing you tenderly. god, it's been so long since you felt his kisses. you could cry from the overwhelming happiness in your heart. the overwhelming joy that he never fails to make you feel when he's truly and completely in love with you, too.

you recall one of your favorite dreams, one just a few nights ago, where suguru had never broken up with you in the first place. in fact, he thinks the mere thought is comically funny. he'd never ends things. you're the best thing that's ever happened to him and he never fails to tell you that at every hour of the day. he's the perfect boyfriend. he's the ideal husband. he's the man that you've been wishing for for your entire life...but he really is just that. he's a dream.

"i don't love you anymore."

you wish this were a scenario. you wish you were sleeping. you wish he could've said anything other than those awful words, but this is reality. dreams don't reflect reality. dreams aren't real. his love for you isn't real. he doesn't love you. he doesn't want you. he doesn't need you. give up. give up. stop making a fool of yourself.

Ranma 1/2 reboot episode 4 opens with a deep cut.

Yeah, we're opening on the Ranma 1/2 SNES fighting games they used to have. Because fandom's like that sometimes.

(Now release a modern one.)

I was wondering if it'd be Ryoga or Shampoo introduced next.

(Because I don't actually remember the order they introduce characters in. XD)

Was hoping for Shampoo but I'll gladly take Ryoga. I hope we get to Ukyo before the end of the season. I don't expect we will. But I hope so.

IT BEGINS

Ryoga's legendary inability to find his way. This is a character who can be justified for crossovers by just wandering by. How did he get to Middle Earth? He's just that fucking lost, that's how.

My very first Ranma 1/2 experience, before I knew what the anime was, came from my cousin cosplaying Ryoga at an anime con. He rode an elevator up and down for like an hour just screaming, "Where's the door!?"

I need y'all to properly appreciate the route Ryoga took to Furinkan High School in Nerima.

Do you see that black circle? That is Tokyo. That is where he is trying to go.

The red circle is Shikoku. When he stops the boar and asks for directions to Furinkan High, this is where he is. He's got a long way to go.

The blue circle is Hokkaido, the second place where he stops to ask directions. He has made a complete journey from one end of Japan to the other without ever running into Tokyo.

He's just. So much fun.

Is pretty much the story of his life from here on out.

Ryoga is kind of a big deal. Of all of Ranma's rivals, he's the rival. He's the guy. Kuno's really more of a recurring nuisance and Mousse is more quirky than anything. Ryoga is the guy who really keeps Ranma on his toes.

Together, these two boys have a very long journey ahead.

Which only makes it more amazing that their rivalry is founded in something so petty and ridiculous, but that is the way of Ranma 1/2. Ryoga is homicidally furious because he was supposed to fight Ranma, but Ranma only waited three days for him to arrive at the vacant lot behind Ryoga's house rather than giving him the four days it took him. Ranma stood him up. The coward.

And all over a curry bun.

This is the magic of Ryoga Hibiki. He is an utterly absurd buffoon of a man who takes himself deathly serious. Blissfully oblivious to how entirely ridiculous he is.

He is the Tom to Ranma's Jerry but he thinks he's Vegeta.

Technically, it's his curse that he's so furious about. But. Like. He was already mad enough to follow Ranma to China. With his sense of direction. So pinning it on the curse is deflecting. Ryoga has a longstanding enmity towards Ranma born of a million micro-aggressions compounding into a spongey hatred that can't be easily untangled.

You can't just give him a bunch of week-old bread and then it's all good.

He doesn't even remember he's mad about that. Longstanding hatred eventually loses sight of why it ever started to begin with.

(And besides, Ryoga has more recent things to be upset about.)

I like the subtle build-up they lay out to the revelation that Ryoga too has a Jusenkyo curse. Starting when he says this.

It's interesting that he knows that. He should only know that Ranma stood him up and then left town. But he knows Genma took Ranma to China.

There's also his primary weapon that he fights with for most of the episode.

The story lingers on the fact that Ryoga's umbrella is ridiculously heavy. Even Akane can't lift it. The intense weight of the umbrella serves as a yardstick to show how incredibly strong Ryoga is.

And, later, how strong and determined to protect Akane Ranma is.

But there is one more interesting fact about Ryoga's umbrella that the narrative lets slip past without remarking on it: The fact that it's an umbrella. It's almost as if he's afraid of something in particular.

Something you might use an umbrella, specifically, to protect yourself from.

(Again, the way Ranma 1/2 integrates the malevolent effects of something so universal and ever-present as water into its storytelling, comedy, and action is so much fun.)

And it's in the way he takes personal offense at Ranma's comparatively benign curse.

Like. Yeah, Ranma has to suffer gender dysphoria sometimes but he did get off easy. At least he stays human. Other curse-bearers face a variety of drawbacks that Ranma doesn't have to deal with.

Nobody is going to try to cook and eat Ranma.

Of course, human misery is not judged on a curve. Ranma can be miserable with his gender dysphoria and be better off than other curse-bearers. Both of those things can be true.

But the way Ryoga loses his shit over Ranma's curse is another piece of well-placed foreshadowing about the true nature of his grudge.

Lastly, something I find... interesting... is this moment.

I need to unpack this. Ryoga's razor-sharp belt comes spinning down and slices off Akane's hair, with the implication that if she hadn't turned around to yell at Ranma just now, it would have been her head.

Ranma fucked up yet again in the middle of their argument and hurt Akane's feelings with the stupid-ass shit he says. Leading to Akane storming around, then whipping around to argue with Ranma right at a critical moment that saved her life.

But what really makes this fascinating is that it wasn't Ryoga that almost killed her by accident just now.

It wasn't not Ryoga. But it wasn't just Ryoga.

Ryoga brought the razor belt. But it was Ranma who kicked the belt out of Ryoga's hand. Ranma who sent it up into the air, and nearly brought it down on Akane's neck by accident.

It wasn't Ryoga that nearly killed her. And it wasn't Ranma either. It was the fight. And it was, specifically, a kick that was meant to end the fight, an attack Ranma threw in self-defense because the realization that he hurt Akane's feelings made everything Ryoga's about right now stop mattering.

When Ranma threw that kick, he no longer cared about whatever this shit is. He was trying to fix what he'd just screwed up with Akane, only for the unforeseeable consequences of choices he didn't realize in the heat of the moment that he was even making to suddenly come down on her like a razor blade.

It was his cruel words that put her in that spot and his shortsighted reflex that sent the blade into the air. But it was also his attempt to apologize that made her turn around and saved her from a much more grievous injury.

I don't.

Really.

Know what to do with that.

It's just. Interesting.

He is clingy and loves physical affection. Migi is also ready to give you his time, all the gifts in the world, and even all of him if you want to.

» But of course, not every day is sunshine and roses. When there are challenges in your relationship, Migi is the one who will try to approach you first to solve them. He hates fights. He can put up a tantrum sometimes, but after that, he makes sure that he'll make it up to you.

» Migi is very enchanting and enigmatic, especially with how he handles things. You can't help but be amazed at how he moves and solves things. He's smart, and yet, he really needs that push from you. But, of course, things will never change.

» Migi can be so silly but you know that he is the only one who can make you happy.

» Dali is definitely the serious one in the relationship. He's the rational one. Although he is not particularly outspoken regarding his emotions, the way he looks at you could stop your entire world.

» He isn't the kind of boyfriend who will throw compliments at you. He would rather show it to you instead. Or sometimes, he'll just end up teasing you, even if he meant the other way around. Even without expressing it overtly, the individual genuinely adores your appearance and demeanour. You'll always find him looking at you.

» Dali doesn't believe in love languages. He thinks it is funny. But then, even if he won't notice it, he seems to have the physical touch, quality time, and acts of service. He's sweet but not too sweet. He'll steal touches and kisses, but not always. And yes, he'll make sure to give you time, no matter how busy he is with the university.

» But of course, not every day is sunshine and roses. Dali won't be the one to fix things whenever you fight. Yes, he can be hard on you, and that can be tough. But then, you know his weakness is you, yourself, and so you use that to get his attention again and make up. You'll end up talking about the "logical ways" to solve your issues.

» Dali is very enigmatic. Actually, if you don't know him, you'll think of him as the definition of a mystery. But of course, there are times when he can be vulnerable as well (even if you can just count it on your fingers). But the quantity doesn't matter; it's the quality of relationship you have, and you know you can be proud of him as a boyfriend.

» Dali can be so serious, but you will know that you won't ever be complete without him by your side.

PINKY PROMISES (FIZZAROLLI/ASMODEUS)

[TW: mention of kidnapping and that jazz that happened in the episode… and also, this is a tickle fic, so if this made its way into the main tags somehow, then I suggest you don’t read it if you’re not into that stuff XD]

“You know I worry about you…”

"I know,” The demon said curtly “I know, but Oz- I’m tough! I’m fine, really! It’s just a few scrapes…”

Fizzarolli didn't bother to stop his embrace and instead just leaned on him, taking a moment to enjoy the contact and soak up some of that warmth. His bones ached- and the lie he was telling himself was already fraying at the edges. He was nowhere near fine.

“I understand that but—“ Asmodeus attempted to bite his tongue, feathers prickling upwards with a suppressed hiss; he was irate. “Y-You’re… You’re not immortal, Fizzarolli!!”

The demon’s gaze shifted to his partner, curious if he'd managed to get under the sin’s tough skin. He knew the bigger demon was right- he wasn’t immortal. Even as he spoke, he grimaced as he tried to move his shoulder; it sent a sharp pain through his bones, as if something was broken. He groaned, his body not allowing him to ignore the ache for much longer.

“You’re so reckless, Fizz! I—“ Asmodeus let a sigh escape his lips, exasperation easing into his shoulders as he gestured around himself. “You frustrate me sometimes!”

Squinting at him, Fizzarolli tried to follow his thinking, unsure of whatever point he was trying to make before he commented hesitantly as the silence dragged on “um… Can I go now?”

“FIZZ!!” he finally snapped which prompted Fizzarolli to withdraw his claws. Asmodeus plopping himself onto the edge of the bed without a loud creak, arms crossed.

“Do you have any idea what happened to you?! Were you not present at your own kidnapping?!” He asked with venom, words dripping with grief and guilt. “I- I could’ve lost you!! What would I have done if you’d died, huh?! Do you think I would have just… moved on?!”

“I-I’m sorry…” Fizzarolli hung his head in shame, his eyes filling with tears. He was already in enough pain, but now his heart hurt just as much. “I didn’t think- I thought it would pan out better, I… there a bunch of different factors, and I… there was a lot on my mind, I met an old… I got distracted and I—“

Words failed him as he croaked helplessly. He knew he'd been stupid, he didn't have to be told. He could have died, and all Asmodeus would have been left with were a bunch of distant memories.

He couldn’t say anything, his head was low, and he was focused on keeping the tears back. Even so, he felt a soft hand on his shoulder.

“Just listen to me next time, please.” His voice was soothing, as comforting as his eyes. He pulled the demon close, so that they were curled together on the bed as he pressed his lips against the top of his partner’s head. “You’re not as invincible as you think- I know you overestimate yourself, but please; think rationally sometimes!”

“…does this mean I’m not in trouble?”

Asmodeus laughed “No. You’re still getting punished.”

"Punished? For what?!" Fizz pulled away to face Asmodeus head-on, eyebrows shooting upwards, and his expression was one that was caught in a loop of shock and confusion. “What’re you gonna do, ground me?! Just wait until I get my lawyer on this!”

“That was the first thing on my mind,” The rooster said in a joking tone, his voice still stern but there was a smirk on his face that grew with Fizzarolli's reply. It was as if he’d expected this kind of response, or something akin to it. Feathered paws moved to rest idly on the demon’s scarred belly, and that was hint enough.

"Oh no. You can't be serious." He protested, a small whine forming on his lips that he quickly attempted (and failed) to disguise.

“Hmmm? I’m sure you’ll learn your lesson this way~ and I don’t see it fit to use any sort of ‘force’ on you.” The larger demon said, with a playful wink as he grabbed Fizz’s wrists with one hand and pinned them swiftly but gently down to the mattress. He could only snicker and offer Fizzarolli a shit-eating grin as his fingertips danced up and down his sides.

“Nohahahahaa!! That’s no fair!!” He squealed out and recoiled back- it was a flurry of giggles as Fizz’s own body betrayed him and gave his partner the reaction he knew he wanted.

“Hmmmm? You’re laughing too much, darling. You might wanna speak up~”

“Y-yohou're being so meeheeheean!!” He squealed and turned over. “You-!! I’m gohohohohoanna fucking kihihihihill you—“

It was an empty promise, meant more to prompt Asmodeus than to reflect on himself.

“Mhm~ I’m sure you will.” Asmodeus giggled, feathered beak nuzzling into his partner’s tummy, which made him buck instinctively.

“I’m- I'm sorreeeheeheeheehee!!”

“Sorry for what, hmmm?”

“Fohohohor- for doubting you-!!”

“And you promise to let me send an escort to at least check on you?” Asmodeus asked, mock-thought in his expression as he tapped his fluffy chin.

“Yehehehees, yes! Anything!!” Fizz squeaked as his partner squeezed his hips.

“Hmmm… Good, good! I think you’ve learnt your lesson.” And with that, he finally let up his tickle attack.

He chuckled, watching the tension leave Fizzarolli in an instant. After giving his partner a moment to catch his breath- he turned over, his long plait of feathers coming to rest alongside Fizz's chest while his beak gave him an affectionate peck.

"I hope that taught you a lesson about running off on your own.” Asmodeus said, nuzzling his beak into him. “Next time I won’t be so merciful~”

He winked- a clear indication that to Fizz of where his mind was at. They were content to lay with together as their bodies slowly cooled after the stress-filled night.

“I know- I promise I won’t do it again! I’ll listen to you more.”

“Promise?”

“Pinky promise.”

Bo is like a weed: He'll thrive under any condition.

You, on the other hand, have an HP of 3 plus 10 fall damage.

But you're one determine motherfucker.

You crowed out of bed, swaying side to side. You feel the world weighing you down and you just want to sleep... but you have work to do around the house.

Besides, you don't want to quit now. You're so close to proving to everyone you belong in Ambrose, so why is your body betraying you.

Then you fall down the stairs...

Bo nearly drops the coffee pt on his hand, but he caught himself and placed it back on the burn. He set his mug down on the kitchen counter as he leaves the kitchen. Sometimes, Vincent would miss a step if he go too little sleep. As much as he doesn't say it, he hates it when his twin over does it (thought they are almost done with their mother's dream).

"Vincent?" He asked coming to the steps. "Hey! Get your Vincent van Gogh waxed ass back to," he stops at the bottom of the steps and sees you with your face in the wooden floor, "...bed." He kneels down and slowly lifts you into his arms, resting your head in his shoulder. He's not in a rush or sure if he should be worried about you. "Darlin'? Y/n?" He asked, shaking you slightly. "Sweet heart?"

"I'm good, Bo," you murmur, pushing yourself weakly against him. You tried to get up, but you felt your knees buckle and you slouched against his arms. "I need to get work done."

"Honey, words are slurrin'," Bo raises a brow at you. "Bed. Sleep. Now."

You shake your head as you tried to move again. "I can handle it."

"Ya can't even stand."

"I don't need no man to tell me shit," you playfully smack his chest, but your hand felt too heavy. You leaned against his chest and hummed at his warmth. "Warm... you're so warm."

You felt the back of his hand, and he clicks his tongue. "Sweetheart, yer burnin' faster than heart burn on a Sunday." You felt his arms under your legs as he lifts you up. He carries you upstairs back to your room.

"No, no," you whined. "Don't..."

"Yes," he replies. He places you back in bed and tucks you in. Again, his hand went to your forehead. He holds a still face as he looks back at your personal bathroom you two share. "I reckon I'll hav' Les go t'town for fever meds an' oranges."

You giggle as you felt your brain melt fast. "You talk funny, Bo."

He doesn't smile or smirk like he normally does. He leans down and kisses your head. "Sleep, honeydew, 'n I'll be back."

By the time you wake up again, it's in the afternoon and you smell soup. Bo came up the steps with a bowl of soup and a glass of orange juice. It's hard fro you to keep your eyes open, but he caught you in time.

He placed the food and glass down and takes out a bottle of medicine from his pants pocket. "Keep yer eyes open, love," he says, his voice softer than normal. "Ya need to eat an' move around some."

He sits on the side of the bed and helps you sit up. Your bones ache and grind together, and you sigh in relief as soon as your back is against the bed frame. You felt his hand against your forehead and he shakes his head, sighing disappointingly. His hand moves and brushes your back.

"Can you feed yourself?" He asked, his voice teetering on annoyance.

"Yes" you lied, your voice close to a whisper. It's getting harder to keep your eyes open. You hate that you're stuck here. Hate that you're weak in front of him. Your hand grips the spoon but your fingers can't move it. You try again but it doesn't work.

Bo's calloused hand pushes your hand away gently and takes the bowl. He scouts closer... then a spoon comes up. "Open an' blow, darlin'," he warns at the end. "Hot." You do as your told and you allow him to feed you. "There ya go, y/n. Goin' so good," he praises lightly, his voice heavy in his southern drawl. "Doin' real good now. After 'is, o.j. an' medicine."

You blushed at his words and looked away. "You think I'm good?" You asked bashfully.

"T'best, darlin'," he reassured, flashing you a charming smile. "Doin' real good." He put the soup down and held the glass to your lips. "Slow sips." He tilts the glass as you do what you're told as you drunk slow and steady. You motioned your hand to him to show you're done and he sets the barely half glass down. "Almost done. Look at ya," his hand rubs your knee, "ya such a star."

"A star?"

"A star," he gives you a smile.

He gives you your medicine and lays you back down.

As he leaves, he stops at the door and looks back at you. His heart falls a bit when he sees you breathing slowly, too slow for his liking.

He leaves for what felt like minutes and he's right back in your room. He takes off his work clothing and keeps his black boxers and white tank-top on. Bo comes on the other side of the bed and pulls you close. You rest on his shoulder and he brushes your hair.

"Yer sick," he whispers. "Fever ain't breakin', sweatin' lik' a sinner in church, sleepy and in need of help." His voice echoes in his chest, making you feel like you hear him in a cave. "Closed the shop, finished t'kill, Vincent's got a new project... hav'ta be a hen over a sick little chick." Bo's hand racks through your hair as you started to feel sleep take you again. "Sleep, y/n. There'll be monsters to fight t'morrow."

"You're not a monster," you hummed. Lazily, you lifted your hand and caress his check. "You're not a monster."

He lifts a brow and looks at you. He doesn't stop rubbing your back. "What am I then?" He asked curiously.

You snuggle up against his side and flutter your eyes close. You feel as safe and snuggled against him, his warmth lulling you to sleep. "A helper," you babble sleepily. "Best... helper..."

As you sleep, he kept an eye on you as a smile crept over his lips. He takes your hand and kisses your knuckles. "Sleep well, birdie," he whispers against your skin. "Sleep well. Dream of a better place than here."

Bo pulls you a little closer and kisses your forehead and ends up sleeping with you in his grasp.

ouuuuu the thing about Polaroid turning things white when he touches them, it makes me think about how he has that obsession with self-improvement, and in order to learn a skill, you have to do it constantly, so that means turning things white. or he just dies before they have the chance to become marble, which is just so messed up... what does he think of it? why can he do that? I'm still trying to figure out the plastic lore... I know getting his head knocked off is still eventually lethal, but i cant help but imagine if he could survive long enough to patch up any holes lol... does any of that transfer over to the rain world au? midas' touch is just such a good trope, im always obsessed with it

i'll clarify some things first and yap at your face (if you want to skip to your questions, look for this ***)

this type of thing happens for respawns whom still have loyalty to their purpose (aka the amount of white colour they still have). if they're dark like ui, the effect isn't as effective or noticeable

it doesn't change any material into another, it just becomes a part of their body and can be painful once attached. this is why respawns can't really wear things this purpose is meant to motivate respawns to keep moving too, along with their assigned souls. respawns have their own souls, which work like a kind of amoeba "oobleck" [not rly but bear with me

(though if a respawn is mutinous, the respawn isn't recognised as a part of Limbo anymore, so the motivation is abandoned and turned obsolete.

not out of malice either, the limbo core literally doesn't know xD if something stops following its orders, huh what? where did it go? must've died somewhere, let me make a new one 💀💀💀💀)

its function is similar to souls ceasing to exist, where it expands and returns to the air. respawns' souls aren't returning, but is tasked to expand to lingering materials. it's not intended by limbo, but it does well to regenerate lost parts or even grow themselves. though at a limit as it also stretches the soul. unless theres cannibalism involved ahhahahhah foreshadowing foreshadowing

if other materials held is not the same composition as the respawn, it'll hurt if they hold onto it too long because their soul is rejecting the material it's not assigned to. it can't retract on its own and will only keep expanding itself unless the respawn chooses to trim it out. like fingernails but you're cutting off an extra knuckle of finger. if it's the same composition, expect yourself a harmless tumor, but sucks to have it yk

*** to polaroid, it's motivation for himself to keep moving forward. he doesn't want to, but he prays for more strength to keep going. ui can rest but choses not to, polaroid can't but yearns to rest. in both literal and figurative terms haha

also he can! it was briefly in the main ending of episode 1 he reattaches himself, that was the same midas' touch kind of happening but is considered a regeneration haha. he'll be completely dead if it's not reattached in time. he can use concrete and other similar properties similar to marble to regenerate, so that's why sometimes he has rebar inside his body (used up from building debri. some attempts he may no longer be fully marble anymore)

as for the rw au version, this same concept is amplified by a ton XD if you've seen one of my previous post, it implies that he could regenerate even if his entire superstructure body is blasted. although its a damn long time, his body still looks clean and new

though when his clone is detached, his regeneration is similar to canon but way weaker and is as close as useless. he can still survive for awhile after a lethal blow, but unlike canon he can't reattach it properly (though it does extend cycles) nor regenerate it. pol in story 7 fights his headless self too, which yearns for pol's head

IWTV S2 Ep3 - Random Musings (Spoilers)

i dont know if you've already answered this question before, but what inspired you to write tts? was it a trip to scotland/lighthouse?or the isolation of the pandemic? or something else?

i personally believe both, since you've so beautifully crafted the backdrop of the story, i wonder if one could do that without a visit to the isles? a pandemic retreat to the scottish isles to bring out the best writer in you? and i kow this is assumptious of me since i dont even know where you are from haha.

i also dont really know if i want an answer to that tbh, cause in my head thats how this story was birthed, so if the reality is something different i'll probably ignore it and go believe my version of reality XD

hiii, that's a great question. i don't know if you actually want the answer, you don't seem too sure yourself dkjfvbjhdf but i'm happy to provide some context ? whether you choose to integrate it into your belief system after that is your decision lmao.

so, i actually wrote/published the story in 2019 before hs2 came out and before the pandemic. so i can't claim that as inspiration for the isolation in the story, though i do find it really interesting that for people who are reading it post-pandemic, it might resonate in completely different ways now.

in terms of the inspiration, it's a little mix of many things? it started as a prompt from an anon in my inbox and substance abuse wasn't necessarily a subject matter i wanted to touch upon, but the idea of a vague coastal b&b as an isolated retreat to heal spoke to me and i wrote a drabble outlining what kind of story i'd write with the prompt and where i would want to set it. i was living in scotland at the time (on a working holiday visa) and while it wasn't on one of those isolated islands in the north, i had done research on fair isle for a different writing project that ended up not happening so when the prompt appeared in my inbox, it was the first place i thought of to set that kind of story.

then people really liked the drabble and it snowballed from there. in many ways, it ended up being my love letter to the place where i was living and to my time there, filled with little easter eggs about my experience there that only i know about. and i think, living by myself in a foreign country at the time and being so so so so so in love with the place where i was living while being so far away from everyone that i knew best, i was really interested thematically in the idea of the differences between loneliness and solitude. and what they mean to me? cos i knew people over there, i had my little found family, but i was alone a lot and not unlike tts!louis, who is based on me in many ways lmao, i fucking loved it. and so, i think that's what sparked the themes of isolation in the story and how it can be a relief sometimes and painful other times and how can we deal with that/articulate that/etc.

so yeah, idk. it is a very personal story. just maybe not quite the way you thought haha.

also, anyone who knows me irl knows that i am obsessed with lighthouses. i have always been. my dream would be to live in a decommissioned lighthouse. so i gave that dream life to tts!louis.

CASSIA is most likely NOT going to wind up in a situation like this. at least, not in one where the stakes are extremely high. it'd be more like... a friend asked her to discretely find out what another friend might be hoping to get as a birthday present, or if someone is single, or if they'd have any interest in being surprised with tickets to a concert--that sort of thing. mundane, slice of life stakes. and... cassia's also often just... too excited to be 'good' at this sort of thing. >xD yes, she can be a little manipulative when she wants to be, but most of the time she's.. just.. gonna ask you. yes, the original asker said to be discrete, but SHE'S asking. so there's still an element of surprise, as the answer isn't for her! there are obviously some exceptions to this, especially if she's in on it (i.e. she and mikey are setting up a prank on raph, and she casually asks don if he happens to know where raph is or if he's going to be back any time soon--oh no reason! she just wanted to know if he had any spare skate wheels haha okay BYEEEEE DONNIEEEEE~! nailed it). NYXRAM heavily depends on context and the kind of information she's looking for. i'd say in most cases, it's spying and research--either through hacking or "field work". there've been multiple situations where nyx has known her marks arguably better than their family members and friends; she shadows them, learns their routines, schedules, usual haunts, accounts they have have--just, the list goes on. it will never be "excessive"; it'll be anything she believes she needs to know to complete her task efficiently. this was one of the first things she'd do before a job; knowing your mark allows for the easiest clean up, including possible ways you could pin their death or disappearance on someone else or simply making them vanish from the record all together. you gotta know where the cracks are and what to drop into them. there have been a few instances where she's been required to get intel before killing her mark. sometimes her sheer intimidation factor is all she really needs. if that doesn't work and you need a little persuasion, best believe it's going to come with cross-checking. torture isn't a guaranteed method for success; they'll often just give you information they think you want to hear to get you to stop. if they're lying and you kill them, you've just wasted a bunch of time and a resource you can't get back. better to have two parties. separate them. rough them up enough that they know you could do worse, and you know what type of pain they most respond to. ask them the same question and make it clear their buddy better answer the same way.

if you don't have a buddy for the cross-checking, don't worry. she'll have found some other way to test or verify that you're telling her the truth. lying to her never ends well, and she'll know if you are.

if they're a lone wolf and have nothing to lose? or just that stubborn? you're better off just removing them from the board and finding the information yourself. they'll just slow you down. GWYN kind of like nyxram in the spying department, and then it just... HEAVILY depends on the situation and context.

like i said in a previous ask, she's likely to linger around you and get an idea of what social things you respond positively and negatively to. the game's started long before she actually approaches you and makes her presence known. gwyn's learned that people will willingly give you all SORTS of information if you prompt them in the right ways, pay attention, look for connections, and get their guard down low enough. sometimes they'll get so comfortable, they'll perform actions that should be more private almost subconsciously: they'll open things around you, reveal pin codes or phone passwords, door codes, key locations, back entrances, small details about the area--all kinds of information you can collect passively and potentially use later. relying on her charisma and ability to mold herself into someone you're comfortable around is her 'default' approach, but she will resort to violence if she decides it becomes necessary (this is usually in a situation where she already feels backed into a corner, so to speak).

she's also not above getting close to you to get something she wants. if she's trying to get information or a resource out of you, and you seem remotely attracted to her? she's leaning into that. sometimes... there IS some sincerity in wanting that company; she was outcast from her community since birth, and her twin sister was the only real friend or companion she ever had. even if she has an ulterior motive for why she might start getting close to you... it's... nice. to feel desired and wanted. she's had a handful of relationships throughout her travels, some flings entirely for convenience and some that ran the risk of becoming more. but the inevitable 'backstabbing' has gone both ways, so. this is always a dangerous game to play. gwyn's going to do whatever she feels like she needs to in order to keep surviving and get closer to finding what she wants. methods and results vary.

ASH highly unlikely to be in this position since 99% of the time, gwyn's the one who does the talking and ash continues to play the role of an inanimate object.

in her youth, she was sometimes good at manipulating her parents, neighbors, and the druids through good behavior in order to get extra lessons or resources that she could share with gwyn in secret, but... she's obviously very out of practice when it comes to socialization thanks to the whole "being trapped in a weapon" thing.
