I’ve always felt like I’m inadequate at comforting others, since I find it rather hard to empathize even if I can sympathize. My first instinct is always to try and fix whatever hurt them, but more often than not, things are rarely so simple as to have an easy fix. Sometimes all you can do is offer your support.

So, I’m relating to Donnie in this one! I get so internally flustered when I have to comfort a crying person lol, not that I’m going to let them know that. However, this is also inspired by my oldest brother, who is very similar to me in that way. Even if he had no clue what to do with his little sibling bawling their eyes out over something silly, he still cared enough to sit with me until I calmed down, no matter how confused he was with my dramatics lmao

Mikey might be crying, but don’t worry. He’s a growing boy and he’s got some big emotions to figure out still, but nothing terrible caused this. If anything he probably got some light teasing from the others and it hit a bit of a sore spot. He’ll be alright lol

I'm very much in the 'Bruce is not Duke's dad' camp, but mostly because I think Duke doesn't see Bruce that way; I actually think Bruce would be more than willing to adopt Duke. My ideal dynamic is Duke being lukewarm to slightly positive on Bruce, and Bruce being absolutely obsessed with Duke.

Duke (on Bruce):

"Can't keep waiting for Batman to swoop down and save the day." (We Are Robin #1)

"I'm fine on my own. As Duke, as Robin. I don't think Robin needs a Batman." (Batman: Rebirth)

"Thank god for my mentor. For my friend." (Batman & The Signal #1)

"I think Batman is wrong." (Batman & The Outsiders #13)

Duke starts pretty disillusioned with Bruce, but grows to like and care about him as a friend/mentor. However, he always treats Bruce as fallible, keeping that initial skepticism in Bruce's effectiveness.

Bruce (on Duke):

"I'm trying something new, Jim. Something... better." (All-Star Batman #1)

"You're a good ally." (All-Star Batman #3).

"Duke, from the moment I met you[...] you were always about one thing... finding a new way to be a hero in Gotham. Something independent of the past, and... of me." (Batman & The Signal #1)

"You represent Gotham's best." (Batman: The Secret Files: The Signal)

This man has been obsessed with Duke from the start, and it only grows stronger as time goes on. He both idolises and symbolises Duke as representative of Gotham and hope, and Duke's insistence on independence only makes Bruce like him more.

And it makes so much sense in light of Bruce gifting him a suit with bat ears and a bat symbol, encouraging him to adopt the name 'Signal', offering him a place to stay; everything he's ever done for Duke is very much 'I need this kid to be in my manor and be as closely associated with me as possible.'

So does Duke want Bruce to be his dad? Not really. Does Bruce want to be Duke's dad? Almost certainly yes.

People will really say things like "this irl adult woman wearing lingerie is child-coded" and don't ever stop to think about the question of why they associate lingerie with irl children.

This reminded me of a while ago when I saw a post about someone in a Pokemon discord complaining about a game mechanic being pedo-bait because you could... put Pokemon in dresses?

And they'll continue on with no self-awareness of how they're closer to the "you wouldn't have gotten raped if you weren't wearing that" crowd (for both children and adults) than any reasonable people trying to reduce harm and encourage respect for others.

A good friend of mine got a girlfriend a while ago and I'm super stoked for him, she's really cool and all of us get along with her great

But I can tell my friend hasn't had a girlfriend in a while, cause he keeps inviting me to hang out when she's also there and she clearly wasn't informed I was coming

So he'll invite his girl to a hang out at an ice cream place and when they walk in my goofy ass is sitting there and she has this clear look like "ah. So this wasnt a date."

danny is damian’s older brother au; reincarnation type. danyal is the soft-hearted but still exemplary heir, but convinces ra’s that it is better to have him be the right-hand to damian, losing his heirship. ra’s, having danny as his favourite (cough danny and his inability to not be involved with old creeps lmao) allows him this; thinking that it’d allow danyal to be protected and also give him another option for youth (taking over damian’s body, afo-shigaraki style /hj)

this is all fine and dandy until ra’s decides damian has reached an equal skill to danyal’s stagnant training, and sets up a fight to the death. the lazarus pits are always there for the al ghul family, after all. he expects danyal to win. he expects damian to learn that all of his children are disposable. precious, but tools for ra’s’ use (all except precious danyal, the heart that kept giving).

danyal dies, damian’s sword stabbed into his heart, his last advice to “drive it in harder.” and his last words, “congratulations, brother.”

they bring him to lazarus pit, but it takes him. he sinks into the pool of acrid green and they wait; hours. a day. a week. he doesn’t resurface. they continue waiting because what else are they to do? they are al ghuls, not danal. not precious danyal who could mourn.

this proceeds, a sigil at the pit’s edge once a month, waiting for the lost son to return; but eventually damian is brought before the bat (far less dramatic, ra’s was tired of damian’s growing frustration without danyal to soothe him but no assassin’s had the same emotional state as danyal to provide a pseudo-sibling to play the same role; thus the bats’ family was the next option)

the bats only find out abt danyal when damian sets up for a day of fasting, facing the direction of the pit.

it’s dick who asks why he is fasting, and damian explains calmly. They learn of the boy who knew kindness, of the al ghul’s heart, of the prodigal heir turned advisor to damian. they learn of damian’s brother. when they find out why he’s dead, horror drips down their spines, at damian being forced to kill someone who’d only done good for him.

damian has one thing to say; “Danyal’s advice was not ‘how to kill’. i killed far better than he, after all. i was efficient, but danyal worked cleaner. Danyal’s advice… was ‘to kill your heart.’”

time moves on; damian is adjusted to ‘outside life’ far easier, danyal taught him how to interact with others and understand that words are rarely literal. the lazarus pits are quiet, madness unlikely in those brought from it, and jason affected far less in the long term. until one day there is a knock at the manor door.

alfred opens it, to see a dark haired young adult, assassins’ garb, injured. he does not seem conscious. alfred brings him in; calling the rest to reach a decision on how to treat him, and what his intentions are.

Damian wakes up to the sight of his brother in the moment that damian killed him.
