has anyone ever told you that you're perfect as a biological man and you should learn to love yourself as the man that you are????
so cw for discussions of transphobia and all that. So first off, yes, but I'm still trans. End of that discussion.
But anyways, I got this and a similar ask back to back, from either a transphobe or a troll making a weird joke. While the asks themselves are uninteresting, they made me want to talk about something that's been brewing in my head a while. And that's how the phrases "biological man" and "biological woman" make no goddamn sense, as a biologist. So I'm gonna use this ask as starting point to launch into that greater discussion- I'm not really responding to the asks itself, more dumping some thoughts I've had kicking around for a while. (Also sorry this blog is so transfemme language centered sometimes, I'm just writing from my perspective and don't want to exclude anyone I'm sorry. The rest of this post will be from a transfemme perspective but applies to transmascs as well for testosterone and other elements of ftm transition).
The reason it doesn't make sense to me is like, what exactly do you mean by biological? You're describing a massive biological system, and all of its components. So let's dissect what you could mean by "biological".
Obviously you're not talking about the entire human biochemical system, because biology includes our thoughts and behavior. So if someone socially or identity transitions, we're already eliminating some biological factors from what we consider as "biological" here.
Soft tissue secondary sex characteristics are easily acquired by HRT. Shit, I have some breasts growing already, and I'm 4.5 weeks in. So that can't be what you're talking about.
So maybe you're talking functional genetics? Well if we wanna talk that way, we gotta talk about gene regulation. The entire point of taking HRT is the change patterns in gene expression across the body, suppressing genes associated with masculine secondary sex characteristics and promoting genes associated with feminine secondary sex characteristics. Estrogen, like any hormone, is a signalling molecule that is trafficked between cells and across the body. Its job is to kick off a network of downstream signals that carry out a variety of individual functions. So in terms of active genes, a trans person on HRT will functionally be the sex of their target gender.
Okay okay, maybe for some reason you don't care if they're off or on, if you have a gene that has the potential to make you male, you're a man, dammit! Well, as mentioned before, everyone has the genes required to give you secondary sex characteristics of either sex. So under that definition, everyone is biologically both a man and a woman at the same time. And also biologically cancer. Not "biologically has cancer", biologically IS cancer. Also, we're all every organ all at once everywhere on our body. Changing patterns in gene expression are how one organ differentiates from another, and how many visible traits arise. As mentioned earlier, this includes many genes responsible for secondary sex characteristics.
But chromosomes! Y chromosome is a man! The only reason the X and Y chromosomes have relevance to sex determination is due to the Sry gene, which is linked to the Y chromosome. Why is this the case? Well, your chromosomes are paired. Normally, pairs of chromosomes are the same size and have the same genes. This is helpful, because it means you can have two copies of every gene- if one becomes nonfunctional, you have a backup, or you can express multiple spicy variants of the same gene. Somewhere in our evolutionary history, one of these pairs of chromosomes experienced a large scale deletion, causing many of these genes to be missing. It's fine if you have the backup copies on the other chromosome- but some kind of patch needs to be developed to help make sure that, on average, most offspring have at least one copy of the full chromosome. So, the individuals that linked the Sry gene to the Y chromosome, the chopped-up version of the chromosome, passed down some offspring. But there's nothing intrinsic about why it has to be this way- most animals don't have chromosomal sex determination at all. Even in mammals its fairly common for an X chromosome to grab the Sry gene, creating a phenotypic male with an XX karyotype. It's an evolutionary patch, nothing more, and a rule that is frequently broken. And if we want to talk about evolutionary patches being biological determinism… well then let's start talking about how vitamin C deficiency is the "biologically mandated" state of the human. And besides, chromosome structure is really mostly relevant for how it functionally affects gene expression, and we already talked about how gene expression is changed by HRT here.
Alright, alright dammit. I'm talking about the genitals, dammit. If you have a penis you're a man! Okay great. Tell me if you would classify post-SRS women as "biological" women then. Also, we're really starting to reach here.
Fine! I'm talking about bone structure and bone structure alone! I mean yeah, some elements of bone structure will always remain in someone that's had testosterone in their system long enough- its rock deposits in your body after all, its difficult to reverse. But some don't! Even adults on transfemme HRT experience hip widening, changes in height, and other changes in their bones (they just take a LONG time, and I've often ranted about the massive amount of misinformation regarding how long HRT takes to show its full effects). Additionally, there's plenty of surgeries for facial structures- is FFS the true hallmark of a "biological" woman? And also… no matter what metric you start drawing lines on here, you're gonna end up excluding some cis women as well.
To be abundantly clear, NONE of this is to say that you aren't valid if you aren't medically transitioning. What I'm doing here is pointing out that "biological" is a useless, overexpansive, arbitrary adjective that, even using the most transphobic definitions, still includes most trans people. The line is drawn… somewhere in here, to them. And more often than not, it will be drawn wherever excludes the most trans people, which will invariably exclude some cis people, and they'll all eat each other alive.
The reality is that "man" and "woman" are useful conventions that can be generally applied to classify most people into one category or another. And that's not unique to gender, it's literally how language works. As with pretty much any linguistic classification, its observational, not prescriptive. When thinking up of names for animals, we don't think up of a definition first, we see a group of animals that share similar traits and then think up of a name that will represent that species. But then, if we find more edge cases later, or an edge case becomes more prominent, we either adjust the definition or subdivide the group further with accurate terminology. Imagine if, around the time humanity discovered weasels, we made a definition of weasels that only included the European Mink. Then we found the least weasel, and people started crusading about how its "not biologically a weasel" and "defend weaselkind". It's just so… arbitrary. Where it begins and ends is up to us as a society, and linguistics, meaning that "biological" as an adjective here isn't doing much.
What is a woman? Well, some combination of the factors above, and many, many more I didn't talk about here. It's a classification cluster of people exhibiting certain traits that is not easily reducible to a simple adjective. And guess what, so is literally anything we see in the world. What is a race? What is a nationality? What is a species? What is continent? There are useful, simple definitions for each of these things- and those definitions are helpful on a first pass! But once you start to examine it more closely, that utility breaks down, and you have to get more nuanced. Which is exactly what happens for trans people, but for some reason, people aren't willing to have that conversation in the same way we're able to have quirky debates over whether or not Australia counts as a continent or an island.
I want to develop these thoughts further at some point, but I hope this is at least a good summary of my perspective on all this, as a biology grad student, and I hope that some people find utility and comfort in my explanation!

I keep fuckin' griping, I know. So annoying. But like I really don't like how most fanfic writers depict Morph (Kevin Sydney). Not all, but definitely most.
So many fanfics I have read (and they're all Morpherine because those are the only fics that feature Morph as a main character), have this obligatory scene that I have not seen done well even once: Morph and Wolverine are having a moment when Morph transforms into Jean for no other reason than to set Wolverine up to say that he doesn't want Jean, he wants Morph. And I have read that exact scenario so many goddamn times that it's not even sweet, I just go ughhhhh grow up.
First issue I take with it: I don't think Morph would use the form of other people during sex without explicit consent from all parties involved. I think that'd be a really gross thing to do, and I don't think Morph would violate someone's boundaries like that. Also, I personally headcanon that they are averse to using shapeshifting in the bedroom other than adjusting their own base form for trauma reasons.
Second: having Morph sabotage the moment like that paints them as so obnoxiously insecure that it feels like they have just become a reskinned Lance McClain in fandom eyes. If you know, you know.
Third: It takes me out of the moment for the two previous reasons, completely killing the impact of whatever intimacy that follows (and nothing typically follows, the fic usually just ends there).
And you can just expand that into fanfic writers seeming to hate Morph's mutation. They don't want Morph to morph. They will add debuffs like saying Morph can't shapeshift often because it drains them, Morph needs to stay in their base form at practically all times, hell maybe they'll depict Morph just straight up HATING morphing. And I hate that. There are shapeshifters that don't like taking on other forms, that prefer their own body, but dog, that ain't Morph's thing
Morph's mutation is that their body is composed of unstable molecules, so it makes more sense to say that like... they can't ever not shapeshift. They can't stay still, they have to change. I view it as not only does their body naturally want to switch forms constantly, but mentally, they're always running in the back of their mind: "What'll be the best form to win a fight and/or what is the best form for comedic purposes?" Because that's one thing: Morph is a jokester. Most of their shapeshifting is not utilitarian, it is done purely for comedy.
And since there are no solo Morph fics, it's always only Morpherine (and I love Morpherine, but Morph can get it. let them fuck other people as well), how fic writers police Morph's shapeshifting is always by using Logan as a mouthpiece to tell them to stick to their base form and basically never shapeshift. And that's basically telling Morph "never use your mutation" and that's really shitty?? Like imagine if in every single Wolverine fic, his love interest was telling him "never use your claws, they aren't the real you". Like what the hell? Imagine if someone was telling Storm to stop making it rain. Jubilee, stop making fireworks, it's too flashy, it's not being true to yourself.
Now, this is where I start not making sense to non-trans folk, okay? It feels like Morph being told to stay in their base grey form, that they shouldn't even use their OTHER base form which is legit just the same body with more features, is like when people police the gender expression of nonbinary people. Can't be too feminine or masculine in your expression because then "you're not actually nonbinary you're something else". Can't have certain physical traits (breasts, body/facial hair, body fat) because it's not androgynous enough, you aren't trying hard enough to fit into the nonbinary box. Which is wild because the whole purpose of being nonbinary is not wanting to be put into a box. It isn't just a third gender.
And I'm fine with depicting Logan as not really getting it! As trying to be supportive by saying "just be yourself, you don't have to shapeshift all the time", but you can't play it as if Logan is right. He isn't right because Morph's base form is not the one and only Them. They contain multitudes.
Think like Nimona. Nimona is a nonbinary shapeshifter who likes to shapeshift. Ballister tries to get her to stop, tells her to just be her (always meaning her base girl form), but she tells him that it's all her. Every form is her. It itches not to shapeshift because it is denying a part of her being and forcing her into a box. And what a fucking slap in the face that Morph gets confirmed as nonbinary, and now everyone wants to force Morph into a box (their base form) and not let them come out of that box because supposedly them shapeshifting is going against who they really are.

Tumblr media
(Takes place before Post Credit Scene in into the Spiderverse)
"Miguel, I hate to tell you this but we can't-"
"There has to be another way, you designed this Lyla!"
"Hey! Don't blame the AI, blame the maker! I only followed what you said!"
Lyla huffs and glitches to another part of the console. Miguel is currently hunched over a table in the corner of his lair, the only light illuminating his project is the light rod over his workbench and the monitors around him.
The girl busies herself with schematics, working out equations and trying to find where they went wrong.
Miguel's latest work on the multiverse brace is to eliminate the glitches that it makes whenever someone uses it. It could potentially lead to wounds from the cells traveling to a different world, and even the healing factor won't fix it. Worst-case scenario, it would lead to a fatal wound, possibly death, and Miguel can't risk that if he's gonna start interdimensional travel.
His eyes scan over the chip connected to his computer, adding and removing codings that might've gone wrong. He's wearing the headband Lyla gifted him, or mailed to him when it was his birthday months ago, to be exact.
"I swear the shell is all good, Miguel. It should all contain the molecules needed for the portal bracelet,"
"Can you please stop calling it that?"
"What? 'Portal'?"
"Yes. It's not a portal, we already have that," Miguel rolls his eyes, gluing them back to the screen.
"Then what are we calling it?" Lyla pouts, adjusting her heart glasses.
"Transdimensional Pathfinding Wristlet."
Lyla pauses her work, and turns to Miguel, her brows raised, the blinks once, twice. "Wh- seriously?"
"Y'know what, I'm not even gonna try," He shakes her head before glitching to another monitor. "Leave it to the crazy scientist to name his things,"
Miguel ignores what his AI had said, instead focusing back on the chip. If this succeeds, it’ll be the first dimensional trip the prototype could make, and he’d prefer not to be a piece of burnt toast once he comes out of it. He coded another line, before he ran a diagnostic. The screen glares red, the annoyingly big letters of ‘ERROR’ pops up.
Miguel blinks, before he feels his claws coming out, promptly making him stand and throw his chair across the room. It shatters, the metal pieces clinking to the concrete floor. He heaves, sharp fangs bared, barely causing anger at his fingertips.
Lyla fixes him with a look. “That your fifth chair Miguel,”
The man takes a steady breath, wiping his hand across his face, working at his jaw. He tilts his head sharply and something pops. He faintly hears Lyla clicking her tongue.
"There's a guy I know,"
"What do you mean there isn't any- I booked a single room last week,"
"I'm sorry but there must've been a mishap in the system. I'm going to have to put you with an available roommate,"
"I don't want-" Miguel sighs, tapping his foot insistently. "Look, is there any way I can register for another single room?"
"You can wait a couple of weeks for a vacant room, but you'd need to consult with the head of the faculty." She nodded to him, a regretful look behind those blonde bangs. Miguel huffs, hands on his hips, thinking out a decision.
"Fine," He groans. "Who's still available for a roommate then?"
The girl's brows raise before she quickly types something into the computer, reading out what looks like a list with numbers and names. "Oh!" She smiles. "Room 304, on the third floor is still awaiting a roommate,"
"Great, thank you," Miguel grumbles, already picking up his boxes where he left them on the floor.
"If you'd like-" The girl calls for him again. "I can talk to the faculty member, see if I can help you with the room situation,"
"Sure, I'd appreciate it," Miguel's back is already turned to her as he makes his way to the building's elevator. With his gym bag slung over his shoulder, and the boxes of his unfinished work, traversing the hallway takes a bit of an effort. Students were not mingling around because most of them were already in their rooms, with the time turning just after 5 PM.
Finally, he reaches the elevator doors. Miguel shuffles the boxes into one hand, struggling to press the button before he is beaten to it by another hand reaching for the ascend button too.
"Here man, let me help you," The person says, already picking up the two boxes that cover Miguel's vision even before he said anything.
"Hey don't-" He begins, before he finally gets a good look at the person that dared to touch his scraps. The man in front of him, standing just inches taller than him, hair with an unintelligible style, captivating eyes and the faintest smirk on his lips.
Miguel's brain stutters a bit. "I'm- nevermind, thanks,"
"Of course dude," And Miguel's interest plummets. "What floor?"
"Third please," He nods, pressing the button once he and Miguel get in. The door closes and leaves the two in silence, only the faint whirr of the elevator's machine.
"So, late to dorm assignments?"
"Nah, they messed up my request,"
"Shit, really?" He turns to Miguel, his brows furrowed.
"Yeah, now I'm stuck with a damn roomie,"
"Oh yeah? What room?"
"304, apparently," Miguel huffs, looking down into the box he's carrying, the tape on it peeling slightly. The guy halts, now his brows are raised.
Miguel's turn to look confused, before the guy chuckles lightly. "Funny you say that 'cuz,"
"I'm room 304," He smirks, readjusting the boxes.
There's a pause, before he feels the red of embarrassment gathers on his cheeks. "You're-"
"That damn roomie? Yeah,"
"Fuck, sorry I didn't-"
"No no, it's fine! Really," The guy laughs, shaking his head while Miguel tries to formulate a coherent sentence. "I don't mind man, I get wanting your own space though,"
"Hey, I hope I'll be a good roomie," He bumps Miguel's shoulder lightly, his smile not fading. Miguel finds himself mimicking it slightly. After that, he introduced himself to Miguel, his major and such.
The elevator opens just after that, the two make their way down the hallway. He asks about Miguel's major too, just as they reach the door.
"I seriously didn't think I'd get a roomie," He chuckles, turning the key with a million other key chains. It jingles, before he pushes the door open and into the room. "I'll go check with the front desk-"
"Oh!" He turns after putting down the two boxes he was carrying. "Just got the text, said they'll give you the key tomorrow,"
"Great," Miguel rolls his eyes, putting down his box on the vacant desk and his duffle on the chair. He turns, inspecting the room that he's been sent to stay in. One side is already cluttered with his roommate's stuff, plants and books and papers strewn about. He tilts his head when he spots a flag on his desk.
"You're trans?" Miguel asks, turning to him where he was still standing with his phone out. He hums and lifts his head, meeting Miguel's browns.
"Oh that old thing? Yeah," He scratches the back of his neck. "I know, I get it. No one really cares nowadays, the worlds moved on, whatever,"
He glances at the little flag, pink and white and blue adding color to the messy desk. He smiles. "It's a reminder, I guess,"
Miguel stares at the flag, just once, before he nods and shrugs, turning to open his boxes. "Sure, that's cool,"
He can practically feel the sunshine radiating from his roommate behind him. He crosses his arms, turning again to face him, and he's right because his roommate has a really bright smile. "I hope we'll be good friends, Miguel,"
"Miguel there's so many people in Nueva York how am I supposed to-'' Lyla stops, before she grins. "Nevermind, found him!"
Miguel finishes his spider shot, cracking his neck again as he sets the syringe down. He turns towards Lyla, the AI already projecting the location. "Looks like our guy lives in… the slums? I thought you said he was a prodigy,"
"Yeah well not everyone gets a decent job even if they are a genius," Miguel huffs, running his hand through his hair as he looks at the mirror.
"Who's you said the guy was again?" Lyla begins to scroll through the data.
Miguel sighs. "Old roommate, back in college,"
"Ooh, interesting," She giggles.
"Lyla don't-"
"I'm not looking through his history! Just a peek, though,"
Miguel lets out another sigh, walking towards the large opened window. "Uh, hey Miguel, are you sure about this?"
"Why what's wrong?"
Lyla displays her screen as it glitches in front of Miguel. According to her research, the old roomie has been caught by the police stealing items from hardware stores and electronic stores, a handful of accounts of disruption of peace according to the other tenants in his old apartment. And he's currently deemed missing.
"Where did you say his location was?" Miguel reads through the file, his brows knitted.
"Just here, some abandoned warehouse in the slums,"
“Miguel, man, you’ve got to eat,” A tray for warm food was suddenly placed between Miguel's paperwork. He huffs, pushing the plate away and to the edge of his already small table. He hears a sigh, before the plate is moved out of his peripherals, and Miguel is back into his work.
“Dude, you only ate like, one energy bar after going to the gym,”
“I’m fine,”
Another exasperated sigh, before his roommate goes back to whatever robotics he was working on. Miguel has been perfecting his latest assignment the whole week, going back and forth on his computer, writing down research papers and consulting with his professors. Meanwhile, the man that he shares his room with is tinkering with a recent robotic piece he’s been pouring his heart into.
It’s correct that they share most of their schedule together. Miguel would wake up before dawn, and so would he. They’d run a couple of laps around campus before hitting the gym just before it gets too crowded. He’d spot for Miguel while Miguel would comment on his form if it needs any improvement. Sometimes they’d share breakfast together, before they head for their different classes, though ever since Miguel has been engrossed in his recent paperwork, their time spent together has been blessed. It'd be a lie to say Miguel doesn't miss their shared time, but he supposes seeing him back in their room after a long day is enough. Though, it doesn't seem enough for his friend.
Unbeknownst to Miguel, his roommates have been supporting a devastating crush on him. Stolen glances, longing eyes whenever Miguel's back is turned towards him. Times when he’d stare a bit too long whenever Miguel was doing his bench presses, times when he’d stand close just to feel the comforting warmth beside him. He’d fuss over Miguel, bringing food or drinks, bringing things Miguel might've forgotten with his busy schedule. Sometimes, when Miguel worked too late and too much, he’d fall asleep on his desk, at which he’d bring his blanket to cover Miguel’s back. In the morning, he rolls his eyes and says something about Miguel getting a bad back, which Miguel would promptly ignore.
It’s currently Friday night. The man that's sitting on the opposite side of the room has seemingly lost interest in his robotics and decided to peer out of their bedroom window. Suddenly, Miguel is bombarded by a loud shout coming from outside of their room, and snaps quickly to the source. He sees his roommate has opened the bedroom window and is looking out into the campus’ courtyard.
“Yeah, I'll join you! Be right down!” He hollers, before he shuts and locks the window. Miguel turns, blinking away the slight dizziness he got.
“Who was that?”
“A friend, they're having a party at one of the frat houses, you wanna join?” He grins, pulling on his leather jacket and pocketing his belongings. Miguel has never been to a party and he's not about to start going, especially when he has a deadline to push. He shakes his head, always swiveling back his chair.
“No thanks,”
He hears his friend scoff. “Come on Miguel! You’ve been working on that thing for ages now, you deserve a break, and the deadline isn't for another month!”
“I’m not interested,” Miguel bites back, barely glancing at his pleas.
“Just this once, I promise it’ll be fun! I’ll be there and I can take care of-”
“I said I'm not interested.” He spits out, already hunching into the part he’s soldiering. He doesn't hear anything, not an answer or another push for him to join. The air has changed, something heavy hangs between them. The tension is palpable, but despite it all Miguel only hears the shuffling of his friend's boots.
“Sure, whatever,” His roommate fixes a stare at the back of Miguel's head, before he unlocks their door. “Y’know, one of these days that work of yours is going to destroy you if you're not careful,”
And with that, he leaves Miguel alone for the night.
“What the fuck!” Miguel jumps and manages to hold on to the side of the building. “Lyla searches for his weakness points!”
“Hah! You think this has a weakness, Miguel?!” The man shouts, a wide grin on his lips. “I’ve perfected these arms, they are practically indestructible!”
“SO this is how you greet your old roommate?”
“I’d prefer for us to meet for coffee, but after how you treated me, I think this…” He brings a menacing robotic arm towards him, as if to inspect it. “Is way better,”
The arm suddenly lunges towards Miguel which he narrowly avoids. He jumps and entwines two of the appendages together as he lands behind the man, at which he growls and breaks free of Miguel’s red webs. “I never treated you badly!”
“No, not really huh,” He smirks. “But you never noticed the shit I did for you anyways!”
He spears those sharp arms towards Miguel which he does a couple of doges before jumping down the rooftop they were currently fighting on.
“All of those morning coffees, late dinners, all for nothing! None! All because you were so fucking focused-” He sharply turns, grabbing Miguel’s wrist and stopping him from dropping a punch. He suddenly pulls Miguel towards him, burning anger behind those eyes. “On combining a damn spider's DNA with yourself!”
He throws the Spiderman across the street, breaking several walls until the momentum finally stops. Miguel groans, cracking his neck when Lyla suddenly pops up. “Boss, the control panel for those arms is on his back, if you could pull it apart from him, it’ll stop him from controlling it,”
“On it.” Miguel swiftly stands, running through the many rooms he passed before leaping into the air, catching the man off guard. He throws a punch that lands on his face, throwing him off balance and into the concrete street below. He grows, and fixes his jaw, before launching back to full force against Miguel.
“It was all fine until you went out with that fucking brunette!” He shouts, throwing debris towards Miguel which he weaves and dodges. “Did I ever mean anything to you?!”
He’s got Miguel pinned to the ground, and pushes all of the arms to stab at him, but instead misses and gets buried in the ground instead when Miguel swiftly pulls away with his web. He struggles to get the appendages out of the strong concrete, suddenly finding them stuck, an opportunity for Miguel to rip the control panel off. He swings above the man, landing directly behind him where he quickly digs his nails into the seams of the panel.
“I’m sorry,” Miguel manages before he pulls. An ear-splitting scream, before deathly silence. Miguel could only hear his heavy breath, before sparks of green ran through the man's body, and it jolted him. He shouts, before falling into the pavement. Miguel takes a beat to examine the control panel, before throwing it somewhere on the ground. He spots the bareback of his once roommate, a horrid sight of root-like marks growing around the man's back. Miguel furrows his brows, before he hears the faint police sirens, no doubt coming over to clean up the commotion.
Just as Miguel was about to make his leave, he heard the man cough, a horrid groan behind him. Miguel glances slightly, as he hears him begin to speak.
“I was right… Your work did destroy you.”

Debunking Wellness Trends: Seed Oils
One aspect of the growing wellness trends on social media is the idea that seed oils are poisoning the population and need to be avoided to reach better health/heal health conditions/conserve fertility/etc. They’re being called “the hateful eight”, and there’s a lot of people doing the #seedoilfree lifestyle. Seed oils are being blamed for headaches, low immunity, disrupted attention and thinking, diabetes, and more.
(Seed oils include canola, corn, cottonseed, grapeseed, rice bran, safflower, soy and sunflower oil)
Toxicity Claims
Current scientific evidence does NOT support claims that seed oils are “toxic”.
Now, if you begin to cut out foods such as fried foods (like fries) or packaged snacks, you may feel better. A lot of people are attributing this feeling to removing seed oils, but these foods are usually high in refined carbohydrates, sodium and sugar which is why they’re associated with more negative health outcomes.
Another fear is that the “toxicity” comes from production byproducts. Heat and solvents like hexane are used to extract oil from seeds, which apparently introduces chemical additives and unstable molecules, which then can turn polyunsaturated fats into harmful trans fats. Realistically, hexane is a bigger threat to the environment and workers in case of inhalation – trace amounts in the oil are still being studied, but so far there’s no concerning data. They’re also heated for short periods, and actually have fewer trans fats than products like milk or butter.
Omega-6
Additionally, omega-6 (found in nuts and seeds, and a dominant polyunsaturated fat in seed oils) is also not “toxic”. In fact, it’s been scientifically linked to lower cholesterol, lower blood sugar and reduced heart disease risk. The argument against omega-6 is that it’s responsible for chronic inflammation – omega-6 linoleic acid is converted into arachidonic acid in the body, which is a component of inflammatory compounds. Only 0.2% of linoleic acid we eat turns into arachidonic acid, and not all the compounds cause inflammation – arachidonic acid is a complex molecule, and it also has some anti-inflammatory effects. Linoleic acid is also an essential fatty acid that our body can’t make itself, and we use it to produce cell membranes and for skin health.
Another claim is that our omega-3: omega-6 ratio is out of balance, and that this is because our ancestors ate a much more balanced ratio than we do today. We DO eat more omega-6 fats than omega-3, but the claim that we eat 20 to 50x more is misinformation – it’s closer to 10:1. Instead of cutting omega-6, the better solution is to try and introduce more omega-3 fats into your diet.
Realistically, a lot of the online discourse about seed oils is misunderstanding scientific reports + deliberate fear-mongering. If you do have concerns about something in your diet causing health issues, seek advice from a trained medical professional who can give you evidence-based ideas and solutions to help you!

Please ma’am could u explain to me what stereoisomerism is in biochemistry?? I don’t know what’s going on anymore 😭😭
Ok so basically molecules have the same molecular formula/ constitution but when you’re looking at them in 3D their structure is different!
And that’s either as enantiomers (which means they’re mirrored) or as diastereomers.
Example for enantiomers:
Tumblr media
Same formula, same constitution but they are mirrored images! You can toss and turn them but they won’t be the same! Just like your hands. When talking about enantiomers, you use S/R to tell them apart (has something to do with the chiral centre and it’s pretty easy to figure out once you get it.)
Diastereomers aren’t mirrored! They can be cis/trans isomers:
Tumblr media
Same formula, same constitution but not a mirrored image! Here, the substituent is in a different position.
Diastereomers can also be conformers:
Tumblr media
These molecules have different shapes because of their rotation! That’s important because different conformations have different energies!
Basically — molecules are different, even if they have the same amount of atoms etc. It depends on their 3D structure. I remember my professor talking about the “Contergan”-scandal in the 60s:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Definitely very important and interesting!
(Also I know this is very short because that’s a HUGE topic but I hope I could help you a little!)

He couldn't believe what he had agreed to. Well, more like what he'd asked for.
Never in a million years did he think he'd let someone do this to him.
For him.
But Homelander trusted him. More than anyone in the world, he trusted his Benjamin to take care of him.
To respect him.
"H-hah!"
To never tell a soul.
He felt a pit of nerves form in the depth of his gut when Ben pulled the dildo from his nightstand drawer. Thick and long. Something he'd used on the wall crawler himself, but never imagined he'd be on the receiving end of.
He gulped, eyes widening.
Ben must have seen, because he stopped assembling it into the harness.
"We don't have to if you're not-"
"No," Homelander blurted out, breaths unsteady with excitement and fear. "No, I just– I've never… done this."
That was the truth. He'd never really put anything inside himself– well, never anything more than fingers from himself or Benjamin.
Today, somehow, was different. Every molecule in his body ached for his little spider in a way that reached far beyond his normal need. He'd let his mind linger too long on the idea, gaze fixed on Ben, and suddenly he found himself clenching with desire. Walls quivering, thoughts of what it would feel like to do more.
What it would feel like to be filled.
It was the hardest ask to have ever slipped from his lips.
But the web-head simply smiled at Homelander from where he'd pinned him, love in his eyes and kindness on his lips as he gazed up.
I'd love to, murmured so earnestly. Without mockery or malice. No glint in his eye to signal an idea for opportunity.
He watched with anticipation as Ben took on the role that had belonged strictly to him in all times past. Slotting the dildo into place, checking that it was secure.
Ben didn't dive in straight away, much to Homelander's relief. Hands brushed against his inner thighs, soothing the tiny shakes he was hopeful would go unnoticed.
It was like he was a virgin all over again.
It was humiliating.
"Breathe, Johnny." Ben leaned down to murmur in his ear. He trailed the tip of his nose along Homelander’s hairline, pressing a kiss to his temple. "We can stop at any time, okay? No expectations, no obligations. Just what feels good."
Benjamin knew what this meant for Homelander. Relinquishing control was never his strong suit, nor was confronting the reality of his… anatomy. Of course, it came as a massive surprise to be asked to reverse their roles, but it only spoke volumes of the trust and love between them.
That Homelander would even consider vulnerability with him to be safe meant the absolute world to Ben.
He started by shimmying down between Homelander's legs, dragging his tongue from hole to clit, circling the erect flesh in flat figure eights. His hands remained at John's thighs, fingernails gliding over his skin, leaving behind goosebumps.
Homelander pressed a fist to his mouth, teeth biting into his knuckles as he resisted the urge to squirm. The anticipation somehow made him infinitely more sensitive. The promise of what was to come loomed over him– yet he was unsure if it was in the form of darkness or light.
Pleasure or disgust.
He keened when Ben's fingers sank inside, filling the space of his body that'd been begging for anything all day. The wet sounds of Benjamin sucking his clit clouded his mind, and his hips moved to chase the sensation. His free hand tangled in Ben’s unruly hair.
Ben smirked against the bud caged between his lips, always pleased with the way John couldn't help but be so reactive. It'd taken a long time to get here, too. For Homelander to shed his shame and be vocal and wanting without fear of being humiliated.
The strongest man in the world was allowed to let go.
He slipped a third finger inside, John's wetness squelching as he stretched him. He curled his digits, fucking them in and out, tongue unrelenting against the head of Homelander's clit. Ben knew it was coming– that John was coming– so he increased the pace. Moaned against his bud, fingerfucked him faster, eyes open to watch as his love crested higher and higher.
"F-Fuck! Ben, I – oh god!"
His walls spasmed, clenching tight in that beautiful rhythm that signaled his undoing. Homelander bit harder against his knuckles, drawing blood, moaning freely. Hips writhing, chest heaving. Mind in a haze– and fuck, Ben hadn’t even done more than go down on him.
His little spider kissed the curve of his mound, fingers still buried inside. Homelander peered down to find Ben smiling, eyes sparkling.
“Good?”
He only nodded, leaning his head back on the pillow. The heat in his core was simmering once more from the simple knowledge that Benjamin was still knuckle deep in his cunt.
Fuck, why was he so sensitive today?
Ben’s fingers began to thrust slowly once more, giving him a tease as he crawled up to press a kiss to his lips.
He needed more.
Homelander pulled the web-head closer, groaning audibly when their tongues met and he could fucking taste himself. He angled his hips to thrust against Ben’s fingers, meeting his motions head on.
“Oh god…” He whimpered against his lover’s lips.
Ben angled his wrist to press the heel of his hand against John’s cunt, and was rewarded with a soft moan.
Fuck, if this kept on, Homelander would be coming for a second time before Ben even put the tip in.
“Tell me how bad you want this…” Ben murmured in his ear, tongue tracing along the outer ridge of it, sending a shiver right down Homelander’s spine.
Suddenly, the fingers rocking into his core stopped, and John let out a pitiful cry.
“So fucking bad!” He whined, hips thrusting up to beg for more. “I want you so bad, fuck– fuck, Ben…”
Benjamin’s digits slid out, smearing his slick up to his clit, pressing and circling all at once.
John’s hands scrambled, one wrapping around Ben’s midsection, the other gripping his shoulder as he was pushed right to the precipice of another orgasm. The bundle of heat in his core was so unbelievably tight, ready to burst at any moment. It left his eyes flickering red.
Ben pulled out from his grip, fingers slowing at his bud.
“Gonna put it in now, okay?”
Homelander nodded desperately, breaths coming out in short, tight exhales as he teetered right on the brink. What was he even worried about, again?
He’d since clenched his eyes shut, but he could hear the sound of Ben spitting, then those fingers gliding through his folds to gather some of his wetness.
Benjamin pressed his slicked cock to the head of John’s engorged clit, rolling his hips to slide the silicone back and forth. The noises that spilled from his lover were both erotic and endearing, and he decided to have mercy and press the tip to his hole.
“Look at me, Johnny.” He cooed, circling Homelander’s soaked opening.
John dared to blink his eyes open, to look his love in the eye. When the head breached him, he threw his head back in a strangled cry.
The first cock he’d ever taken, and it was that thick just at the head. He felt his clit throb and twitch in response, hips moving without thought to help it sink deeper.
”Fuck, fuck, fu–” he hissed, sounds suddenly stifled by Ben’s soft lips against his. “Mmph!”
The pressure in his core was– fuck, it was beyond anything he’d ever felt in his life. He felt so fucking full, he could hardly stand it. He was aware of every single time Ben drew out even the slightest bit to push back in, to press further on each little thrust until he was halfway inside.
God above, John wanted to scream.
Just ram it in, you can’t fucking hurt me! Is what his mind howled, but only gasps and moans fell from his lips.
“That’s it, baby.” Ben encouraged. “Taking me so good…”
The praise danced through his mind, making him clench around Ben’s cock in response– and he swore he felt his arousal gush. He could’ve fucking come then and there with how tight it felt– how goddamn good it was. Fuck… Could he even stop himself?
His legs snaked around Ben’s waist, pulling him the rest of the way inside without care for going slow. His clit throbbed agonizingly.
Close, fuck, fuck so close!
He’d been holding his breath to stifle his sounds– to stave off his release– but he failed.
He fucking failed.
The pressure, the slide of the toy against the head of his his clit, the stretch of his walls– there was simply no stopping the orgasm that shot right to his head, tingled through his limbs, burned in his eyes. No stopping the cacophony of moans that choked through the tightness of his throat, nothing to calm his erratic breaths.
“Are you okay?”
All he had to give was a nod. His hands scrambled to grab Benjamin anywhere. His arm, around his neck, fingernails digging harshly into his back. Any part of his lover that could remind him he hadn’t floated off the face of the planet.
“Shh,” shushed that comforting tone. “Mind your claws, tiger.”
His hand was guided away from Ben’s back, and he wanted to acknowledge the trapped apology in his throat– almost positive he’d drawn blood, but suddenly the fullness inside of him was moving and he had nothing but stars in his mind.
Ben pulled out halfway before pushing back slowly, eyes on John the entire time to gauge his reaction. It seemed he had nothing but enjoyment, if his gaping mouth and the red glow behind his eyelids meant anything.
“That’s it,” Ben murmured, pace increasing. He rose to sit upright, to be able to look down and see all of his love’s little reactions, to be able to watch the girth of the toy disappear into John’s cunt.
Each stroke left the shaft glistening.
Benjamin splayed John’s thighs wide, stroking his palms up and down the insides of them as he thrust languidly, enjoying every little twitch of his lover’s face as he did. He took a special satisfaction in the way he’d gotten Homelander so soaked even his inner thighs were wet. The web-head let his hand travel to Homelander’s core, to thumb circles at his clit, biting his lip at the way John cried out.
“Ben!”
It was music to his ears and art to his eyes to watch Homelander writhing and whimpering his name. He gave two more swirls with his thumb before gripping John’s calves to push him to a new position, pressing his thighs flush to his chest. Ben leaned down to cage him in, and the new angle gave him the perfect advantage to fuck harder.
The slap of the toy’s balls against John’s soaked skin echoed in the room as Ben thrust sharp and deep, each time nudging the depths of Homelander’s core, leaving him on the brink of a sob. The angle had the toy sliding against the head of his clit on each pass, and he had no choice but to throw his head back as the pressure in his core coiled infinitely tighter.
The only word to come from his mouth with any semblance of coherency was his little spider’s name, but it was short lived when Ben decided to muffle him with a kiss. He wished he could tell Ben how fucking dangerous it was to be sticking his tongue in his mouth when he was so close to finishing. He fought it off as best as he could manage.
Ben’s thrusts turned shallow, and he moved away to look at Homelander.
He had drool streaking down his chin. His lips were kiss bitten and slightly swollen. Eyes dazed and glowing a dim red.
A surge of pride coursed through Ben’s veins at the realization this was his doing. And yet, he could tell John was still fighting to keep from finishing. Perhaps it was that nagging insecurity of his at how easily he could finish sometimes that gripped him. Regardless, that simply would not do.
“Johnny,” Benjamin whispered, a hand at his cheek to direct his gaze. “Be a good boy and come for me…” He gave a pointed thrust, and smirked when Homelander threw his head back mid nod.
Ben set a languid pace, rolling his hips to fuck Homelander deep, bottoming out on each thrust. He leaned back again, one hand still holding John’s leg flush to his chest. He secured Homelander's other leg with a spray of webbing, then let his free hand snake down to toy with John's clit. It took no more than a single swipe of his thumb to have John howling.
A burst of red shot from Homelander’s eyes, adding to the ever growing mural of scorch marks on the bedroom ceiling. He babbled and whined, whimpered and moaned as his body was overtaken entirely by bliss. Ben’s finger at his clit never stopped, nor did his thrusting, and John was almost sure he’d black out if not for the fact he couldn’t.
Each throbbing clench of his cunt around the girth of Ben’s cock left him feeling as though he could burst from being so full.
His body felt cold and hot all at once.
He hadn’t even realized he’d floated a few inches off the bed until he’d regained his coherency. Ben had anchored them by gripping and, consequently, ripping the bed sheets with his sticky fingerpads. Instead of chastising him, though, Benjamin only giggled and kissed him.
They laid there for quite some time, and Ben eventually tore the webs that held Homelander’s leg to his chest, allowing him to lay comfortably. The web-head didn’t entertain pulling out until John seemed to have fully come back to earth.
“You did so well, pumpkin.” Ben whispered as he ran his fingers through Homelander’s hair. His own arousal pulsated deep in his core, but he could– and would– wait for John. “Proud of you.”
Homelander’s reply came as a weak moan of appreciation.
“D’you want me to clean you up?”
A silent nod.
Ben pressed a kiss to his cheek.
“Towel or tongue?”
“S’always tongue. You know this.” Homelander scoffed a laugh, smiling when he heard Ben chuckle in return.
“Ah,” Ben hummed as he made to move down. “Silly me…”
Benjamin pulled out slowly, giving Homelander time to adjust before letting the tip slip free. He practically dove in, tongue at John’s rim to collect what leaked from his cunt. He let his tongue press and wiggle the slightest bit, lips curling despite his open mouth when Homelander hissed above. He laved over the tight ring of muscle before dragging his tongue up, gathering every bit of his lover’s release that he could find.
He dipped his tongue inside John’s pussy, pushing his wet muscle in with ease to lap up whatever sweetness he could reach. When he was convinced he'd gotten all he could, Ben's tongue slipped free, swiping along the glistening skin of John’s folds. He kissed each one before moving to his clit.
Homelander gave a weak cry at the sensation, wholly overstimulated at his softening nub. He reached down to grab Ben’s hair to direct him elsewhere, but was pleasantly surprised to find his love bug already traveling back up to kiss him.
“You know I’m gonna have to fuck you till you can’t walk, right?” Homelander asked breathlessly when they parted. He let a hand wander to Ben’s back, fingers brushing against where he did, in fact, scratch Ben bloody. “I…” He trailed off, digging the words out by force. “Thank you… for everything.”
Benjamin simply smiled at him before kissing the tip of his nose, uttering that which he always longs tear hear
“I love you.”
For the first time in his life, Homelander found he had no problem reciprocating those words.

If you still feel like doing that fanfic ask thingy:
3 & 4 for Backhoe
11 & 12 for Unpredictable Synchronicity
Oh thanks for asking, friend ❤️❤️❤️.
Oh Backhoe my old friend.
Backhoe:
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
I really like the scene where Steve gets his first kiss. So maybe:
They are doing whatever you call it when one man is loose and warm and big and inviting and dreamy and perfect, and the other is a stiff, miserable board who is terrified and wants to run, but is also so fiercely desperate for what is happening to happen that his actual molecules may shake apart from the dissonance.
Or maybe
Steve feels his part in all of it. Small, so small, but he also knows that every good and brave thing that ever happened was just a series of very small choices.
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
And of course so many things happen in this fic but getting back to two sweet boys falling head over heels, I'll choose "You, Brooklyn, have wiles" which of course needs context:
“You know, I was just planning to hold your hand, you’re the one who threw me into that tree and started ravaging me.”
Steve sputters, “You kissed me! You pushed me into the tree!”
“No,” Bucky corrects him with a smug grin that he knows will piss Steve off. “You pulled me with your sensual, irresistible wiles.”
Steve snorts, “I do not have wiles.”
Bucky uses their joined hands to pull Steve into him again, like they’re dancing, and leans in close so their mouths are nearly touching. “You, Brooklyn, have wiles.” Bucky murmurs, and kisses him again, and then ends the kiss and gets back to walking.
Unpredictable Synchrocity
11: What do you like best about this fic?
Oh gosh. I think this fic is very consistent in its tone which is something considering how long it is.
12: What do you like least about this fic?
That's a funny one because for each chapter as I was writing it I'd have a list if 900 things but the smaller frustrations always fade away with time.
I think overall honestly that it doesn't have a trans main character considering the plotline. That's a whole thing I went through and it is what it is at this point. Maybe in a few years I'll re-write it with Bucky as a trans man.

I read those replies about risks of HRT, and it's interesting how one of those studies says "we actually need to study this more", but that person drew a conclusion that "HRT is definitely causing this".
It is annoying. Cofounding factors are a real tricky bit in regards to studies and that person just... Imagine they can know more of them than researchers.
It's in the notes of this post:
Even I kinda go rough when I say "yeah T raises risk for CVD" considering that, as the study says, trans men are smoking more, exercising less, having more anxiety etc than the general population. And despite the rising risks for CVD, mortality stays the same.
I agree there is still a lot we don't know about HRT, I agree we should research it more. Better yet, design specific meds for us to have that are perfectly attuned to our needs. For example, now I'm at almost a full vial of T every four weeks, (0.9ml out of 1ml, it decreased with my weight), so I don't throw away that much. But at one point I was at 0.5ml every two weeks, meaning I was throwing away half a vial every two weeks, aka a complete vial every month. It was crushing me because there are shortage of those meds and I hate throwing away stuff. Had there been a specific med tailored to specific trans needs, that wouldn't have happened.
But to claim that, because the specific med wasn't approved for, specifically, trans people it means it's dangerous and that we shouldn't use it.... Is just false. We have no evidence of that, we have even less evidence that it would outweigh the benefits. That person is just taking a stance that every med used off label should just have a 30 years cohort of test to decide whether it should be used, independently of whether the people who use it really need it or not. Which, even if it were to happen, would probably not even let pharmaceutical companies take the steps to actually make a med for us because we don't bring them enough money for it.
Doctors are also not usually just morons playing with molecules, they engage their responsibility using those meds and therefore make sure it's used well, they are experts in those domains. In my country at least, if you're not an endocrinologist, a gynecologist or a few other specific specialties dealing with hormones, you can't prescribe HRT. It does mean that yes, blood tests every 6 months are important, but like, if something really bad was happening to my body, we'd know. That's also how we realized that I had a fatty liver, which led me to eat better, which led me to have healthier habits in regards to food. So like... I guess T saved my liver in my case, as it has absolutely 0 symptoms before it's too late (the liver is a stealth bastard).
And again, I could go on and on about antidepressants and antipsychotics. I wouldn't advise anyone to stop them or anything, I think sometimes they outweigh the risks, but I personally had disastrous side effects from antipsychotics (taken to treat depression and anxiety, which is not even for that normally so yeah talk about off label I think that's a bigger issue, but i was at a mental hospital and pressured to take them and all) which led to hypothyroidism and prolactin level issues for me. Those side effects are studied and known to belong to antipsychotics, and little do you know when I stopped (after suffering from massive insomnias and bad feelings, it was a real shit med for me) it vanished.
I don't understand why HRT is the main issue when it's about such a tiny number of people, hasn't shown any bad metabolic side effects (except maybe like raising bad cholesterol but it doesn't mean much, it can still very much be in normal range, i still have normal range for ex), and hasn't had any evidence of shortening lives so far. If it ever changes, then I'll change my opinion, but I really don't think we'll find in ten years that T caused people to die, every expert on the issue argues that it's probably safe.
I think it's saner to argue that, even if you have no issue whatsoever, it's important to exercise, eat well, socialize, and avoid drinking and smoking. That advice is for every single person and it will save lives, way more than stopping T will ever do.

Before I came out as trans, when I was 16, I rarely saw myself as feminine and in those few, spaced-out times, I ended up not liking what I was seeing. I saw femininity as something futile, lesser than and not something to be proud of. I blame the patriarchy entirely.
But I have come to a better understanding of things. No, I am not a woman but I have a connection to womanhood that can never be severed. I lived 16 years of my life as one, but that's not the main factor here. I do have a feminine side and I no longer loathe or fear or reject it. I love it and, even though it's not a sentient being, I think it deserves an apology from me.
To my femininity: I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't treat you with the respect you deserved. You're such a marvellous part of me and I denied it for far too long. I look forward to spending the rest of my life correcting my wrongs towards you.
It's such a funny thing that I spent so long restraining my girlhood because I was ashamed of it, as if it wasn't as part of me as my brown eyes or my love for poetry. I learned in Biology class that a glucose molecule has three different elements: hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. Trying to tear away my femininity and expecting to still be myself in the end would be the same as trying to strip the glucose molecule from its carbon atoms and still expect it to be glucose.

Really stupid for someone to say the terms cis and trans don't exist. No matter what doctrine you subscribe to, it doesn't mean that something you don't agree with doesn't exist. The words have other meanings and applications and have been used for a very long time. In chemistry, we use it to describe isomers or molecules. Cis or trans isomers. Just... fym those words don't exist?!?!? DAMN!
