I'M HERE, NOW WHAT?
WE'RE ONLY GODS TO THEM (island universe, cosmic sand) is a masturbatory parody involving my original characters/world/story called "we're only gods to them" (not real only exists in my mind palace) and the general premise of the legend of zelda specifically the stories breath of the wild (2017) and tears of the kingdom (2023). by general premise however i mean i'm too lazy to name shit and i liked the worldbuilding concepts like the triforce, ganon and hylia but the actual plot and explored topics/characterizations are a lot more convoluted and ridiculous as i intended.
it's something i've been slowly building up and working the kinks out of since 2019. i cannot emphasize enough how insanely self indulgent this is. from how much i love the creativity on display to make a video game enjoyable to a wide ranging audience to how awful both the loz franchise and nintendo are. first and foremost, it's an Intellectual Property that is used to Gain Profit. loz and breath of the wild notably leans hard into the pro-monarchy divine right to rule narrative. it's racist. however, it is also for children. it's a fantasy story about good vs. evil.
with that being said, imagine such a simple stupid world could curse itself into oblivion. the myth can no longer regenerate itself anew, a divine disgorgement that created new roles, unnecessary extras, a natural mutilation. in the midst of that waning power, after the world failed to save itself, but did not yet die, every finger in that pie thought now was their chance to dig. to fight. there would be a new world, but only if the right hero could revolutionize it.
TAG SYSTEM (CLICK ON THIS POST'S TAGS): the mother's failure - living myth, the world's creation and its destruction, the continental womb (worldbuilding) the gilded - the lady of the land, the lady of the living, and the lady of the law; and all of their creations (NPCs and misc.) the stillborn - and all of her descendants; the youngest of the goddesses who cradle the spirit of the world; ancestor of the royal family, whose mastery over time and light is a miracle passed down to every firstborn daughter (the fourth hero) the leper - and all of his descendants; an ancient king of the world; a stunted cataclysm 1 - the first hero, Mara Halon 2 - the second hero, Gavrel Link Hanoka 3 - the third hero, Benji Kakoka TO BE EXPANDED UPON POSSIBLY MAYBE IF I NEED TO

I have to say, I kind of love how my current fandom obsessions are like:
- A king who's only not corrupt because he isn't competent enough to be corrupt, surrounded by court members of whom most want to see him killed or overthrown but just don't want to do it themselves, and one of whom is only obeying him because he's given him basically a free pass to murder people, plus a right-hand-man who acts like exactly the type of character who's sweet-talking the monarch while planning to betray and usurp him, but never really seems to get all the way to the usurping bit, up against a trio consisting of an elven lady, a dwarf lord, and an alien (who also likes cleaning up people's stuff and leaves passive-aggressive notes if you keep your things in a disorganized mess of containers), who keep eating magical soup all the time. But also it's in minecraft and it's all in good fun and at the same time people are just building absolutely epic things and coming up with amazing creative minigames and stuff, and there's one guy who's just coming up with funny convoluted challenges for himself to do, and another who's building what amounts to basically a whole another dungeon-crawl videogame, and so on and so forth
- A tale of growing fantasy(ish) empires and realms and the alliances and conflicts and personal shenanigans of their various leaders, including, but not limited to, the sky god who keeps insisting he is super tall and sexy and stuff and also seems to be the only god actively present in the world for some unknown reason, his ...boyfriend? husband? who keeps having weird visions and prophetic dreams and maybe dimension-hopping(?) sometimes and who worships a goddess of agriculture and escaped as a child from the destruction wreaked by an evil king or something (sorry, I'm a bir fuzzy on the lore), the possibly-toy-because-the-sky-god-on-a-whim-turned-him-into-toy (look I just love this particular headcanon as an answer to if Jimmy is toy or not) wild west sheriff who is Very Done with the god's bullshit and seems to have a bad habit of alienating/driving away/getting into fights with a lot of the other characters (on the Jimmy vs Joel thing I have to say I'm rooting for Jimmy, but mostly because Joel's behaviour hits a bit too close to home with my memories of being bullied, and I'm low-key hoping Jimmy gets to enact the sort of brutal and destructive revenge on Joel that was never an option to me in real life), the steampunk aesthetic girl who doesn't remember her past but seems to be having weird dreams and visions too, plus has a random pumpkin-head dude in a cage in her home because the pumpkin-head guy kept standing in places around her home and she got freaked out. Also in minecraft, but takes storytelling and staying in-character more seriously than the above one
and
- A set of epic tales spanning several millenia set in a world that was made flawed and marked with evil from the very moment of its creation, telling of gruesome, bloody conflicts full of grief and betrayal set into motion by unbreakable oath, of loss and fall of so many great kingdoms, of struggle against terribly strong dark lords and evil that raises its head again and again every few hundred years no matter what is done to weed it out, a world so full of heartwrenching tragedies... and yet still having room for stories of hope and resilience, stories of good prevailing and beauty rising from the ashes, of good things hapoening against all odds and grace and mercy shown by... fate? god? the world itself? to characters to save them when their own strength can bring them no further. Not in minecraft.

One of the things that I struggled with over the course of the show was the nature of good and evil, God and the devil.
Ben, is, if course, a Jesus figure, and he’s the Jesus that we are forced to imagine must have existed in the space between his childhood and his ministry. He’s avoidant of his own power, knowing that it has a cost, but also knowing that he does not want the mantle of responsibility that rests upon him if he chooses to take this up. He’s pretty easy to understand from that level, if I think more could be made of his unwillingness to step up to his role in this ‘game’ that’s being played out over and over.
But then there’s the question of Justin. So on a purely straightforward note, Justin is the Avatar of evil/the devil/etc. We find out over the course of the show that Justin was evil to begin with, that as a child he killed a man who was trying to kill him, and can we call that evil I’m not sure, but the show is definitely casting this as evil.
But for awhile there, it wasn’t. For awhile there, it was questionable if there was such a thing as good and evil itself, just what we DO. So Ben is the avatar of good, so we think, but really all we know is that he is the avatar of creation/life and Justin is the avatar of destruction/death.
Ben did nothing with his gift, or even with his life, he ran away from every situation that he might have turned to the good, and while I think his relationship with his mother and her treatment of his gift almost certainly had something to do with that, he’s too old for that to be an excuse anymore. He has the gift of creation, but spurns it, runs away from it. What is the point of being able to save if you never use it?
In the opposite way, Justin, when we meet him, has a vision from God and actively tries to make the world a better place. Even his use of the destructive impulse had, at its root, a good desire. He killed people, I mean, sure, yeah, but it was in the pursuit of good. And if we believe in God, and God’s omnipotence, doesn’t it also follow that God must, at the very least, ALLOW for this kind of destruction?
Which leads to where, I guess, I was going with all of this, after writing and erasing 87 different paragraphs in this essay: What if, instead of God and the Devil? (Weak, predictable, cannot possibly be done better than Catholic church paintings) This was actually about the Old Testament God vs The New*?
Follow me here: Justin is destructive, caught up in the idea of justice and wrath and sacrifice. Even the good things he seeks to do are cloaked in this kind of shadow and flame. Ben is a god of creation, and of salvation, but he’s weak and ineffectual, and refuses to lead. What is Justin temporarily brought to heel by? Science in the guise of the asylum. Justin can only be killed by someone within the church who recognizes him for what he is. Ben is manipulated by people who desire to use him for their own ends, without a scrap of consideration for whatever it is that Ben intends. HIs power is not his own, but in the hands of those who would make him into what they need.
Now, there are things the show does tht I think disprove my theory, in a way that frustrates me not so much because I care about being wrong as I think it ends up veering into a much more cut and dried version of good vs evil as the show goes on. BUt I would have loved to see how they resolved all this, especially the idea of how they understand themselves (or don’t) and how other people understand them. I mean, did Justin become “evil” only because of Iris’ push? And if so, what does this really have to say about my theory of the OT God in the form of Justin? Also, what the fuck does Iris have to gain from his turn into the darkness, that’s a question I want answered.
*Before anyone comes for me: I am one entire Jew. But this show is CAH-LEARLY written from a Christian point of view, that’s not even me being like “Unintentional cultural framework” that is just literally what it says on the package. OT vs NT is TOTALLY correct verbiage here.

Wait, wait, wait...is that...Chuck really did insert himself into the whole SPN story, didn't he?
So let me get this straight.
Sam sacrificed himself in season 5 by throwing himself in the cage to hold Lucifer
Tumblr media
And when the boys are trying to defeat Chuck and trying to fool Amara into helping them trap Chuck, Dean mentions Chuck's caging of Amara and how she shouldn't be loyal to him (this is after she mentions how the universe was created when they split apart aka the Big Bang Theory) and she says this line:
"Maybe I'm a fool but I believe caging me hurt him deeply. And I know for me to do that to him would be an agony."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam: "We'll give you what you want."
Dean: "That's right. The whole Cain and Abel thing. Us dead. Whatever. I'll kill Sam. Sam will kill me. We'll kill each other. Okay? You pick." (x)
Cain tells Dean that he killed Abel to keep Abel from being destroyed by Lucifer. He made a deal so Abel's soul could go to Heaven and he doomed himself to Hell. Lucifer accepted as long as Cain killed Abel. "And then would come the one murder you would never survive. The one that would turn you into a savage as much as it did me. Your brother Sam." (x)
The whole Michael vs Lucifer thing (including 5x22 & the lead up to that foretold battle):
youtube
The time Lucifer made Jack and Sam decide who would kill who before Dean steps in (when Sam was a dad to Jack but also an older brother in the Winchesters 2.0 family dynamic):
youtube
Amara: "No, I won't betray him like that."
Dean: "I get he's your brother but--"
Amara: "Apologies, Dean, but you don't get anything. You see me sitting across from you. You see a woman. You see Chuck as a squirrelly weirdo. But you can't imagine what we really are. We came into existence together. We are the same."
Sam: "The former Death, he told us you were the first born."
Amara: "Or he told you what you needed to hear. Chuck and I were twins. Creation and Destruction. Light and Darkness. Balance. And when we split apart, all of this was created."
Sam: "The Big Bang?"
Dean: "When you split? So when he threw you in the cage? When he betrayed you? When he trapped you for an eternity?"
Amara: "You can't play on that. Not with me."
When the series began, Sam and Dean were split apart (pre-story) because Sam was in college and Dean was still hunting with their dad. It's when John disappears that Dean goes looking for Sam and they are reunited.
Chuck locked Lucifer away in the pit (pre-story) to keep him away from mankind and Heaven in order to keep humans safe. Michael was with Chuck (as were the rest of the angels) until Chuck took off.
Cain has to kill Abel, effectively splitting them apart for eternity since Abel would be in Heaven and Cain was doomed to Hell. -> done at Lucifer's behest
Sam kills Lillith and unknowingly sets Lucifer free from the pit
Dean takes on the MOC from Cain which frees Amara from her cage
Lucifer is freed from his cage by Cas agreeing to let him ride shotgun in order to fight Amara
And of course then you have this breakdown:
Dean -> Heaven/Light/Michael/Cain (who originally was destined for light/Heaven but made a deal to save his brother just like Dean did in the end of season 2, and also took on the MOC which again destined him for Hell/to become a demon, in order to kill Abbadon) -> nickname "Squirrel" (I know this wasn't meant to be a part of the show originally like Moose but it's in there)
Sam -> Hell/Dark(ness)/Lucifer/Abel (who originally thought he was talking to God but it was Lucifer instead, something Sam actually has happen in season 11, not to mention it parallels Sam's story of being a soldier of Hell's creation but choosing not to go down that path)
Chuck -> God/Light/Creation (even though he ends up the ultimate villain in the end)
Amara -> God's sister/Darkness/Destruction (even though she ends up wanting to save Chuck's creations near the end & ends up in harmony with Jack)
Jack -> Lucifer's son/Nephilim/Good/ends up becoming God
Everyone always thought the whole brothers theme with an absent father theme was to reflect Michael and Lucifer, Cain and Abel, etc. And they were half right, absolutely. But in the end, it all goes back to Chuck and Amara. Holy shit.
It was Chuck's own story ALL ALONG.

I always thought that with the symbolism and everything of the maidens that this is what the Girls represented.
Ruby - fall - choice
Weiss - Winter- creation
Yang - Spring - knowledge
Blake - summer - destruction
But I keep wondering of may be thats wrong. And not like totally wrong I mean. What is Blake is Fall and choice and Ruby is Summer and destruction?
So, here's why I wonder if it is flopped. So, I under stand why so many think Ruby is fall. She is tied to Cinder with Yang and Weiss being tied to Raven and Winter.
But the other thing is Yang and Weiss's arcs are very tied to the location and the relics.
So, Yang is tied to the spring Maiden, her personal growth is tied to knowledge (you can't punch your way through everything, its about being smarter), one of her personal journeys happened during the mistral arc with her traveling through it(her journey with Raven and her journey with recovering from beacon), her mother lives in mistral, and she was the one to retrieve the relic.
Weiss is tied to the person groomed to be the winter Maiden, her personal growth is tied to Atlas and debatably creation, one of her personal journeys are happening in the Atlas Arc (her family issues), and she is from Atlas.
The other 2 tho aren't very clear. Ruby has had personal development and growth, but not really compared to the other 3. Yang and Weiss are related to people tied to the Maidens. Both Ruby and Blake were friends with Pyrrha and Cinder hates Ruby, but Ruby don't really care about Cinder. We don't know the Summer maiden. We haven't seen either relic...
So, let's get into why I think Blake might be Choice and Ruby is Destruction.
1. Ruby is tied to Cinder. But her mothers name is Summer. Yes, she's not the maiden. But her name is Summer. Yes, this isn't the best reason. Just kinda putting it out there.
2. Personally growth arcs. Ruby hasn't really had a very focused personal growth arc. Not saying she haven't been developed. It's just she hasn't really had the focus until v7/8.
But Blake has. Blake had a personal growth arc v1-6. V1-3 is about opening up to people and facing her past. End of v3 she has a huge set back. And 4-6 is recovering from that. So, Blake is the only one really with a personal growth arc during the Vale arc.
3. Ruby isn't tied to choice. She doesn't have any real symbolism to it. Things just kinda happen to ruby. Yes you can say she makes the choice to let it happen. But Still. Born a silver eyed warrior. Accepted to beacon 2 years early even tho she never applied there. Her and Weiss are the only pair that didn't choose each other, it was completely random. She doesn't even choose who continued in the tournament, they put it to a vote. You could say she makes the decisions and stuff as leader. But thats a leader role and not really focusing on choice.
But Blake is tied to choice and it starts before the show does. Black trailer. It's literally about Blake making making choice.. she leaves Adam. In v1-3. One of the first things that happens is the partner paitings. Blake is the one that chose Yang as her partner. Weiss is mad that blake chose to confide in sun vs RWY. Blake makes the choice to go after the white fang. She even convinces her team to join her. She refuses to go to the dance. Everyone was trying to make her. What got her there? Yang talking to her and Yang never asked or demanded her to go to the dance she says something like "if you go tomorrow, save me a dance?" She wasn't persuaded to go or forced, yang told her how important she was and how they are worried and Blake chose to go. After beacon falls shes terrified and furious at Sun for following her. Shes scared bc of Adam, but Sun still took the choice from her. (Not bashing sun) She convinces the faunus to go to Mistral. She makes the choice to reform the white fang. She helps ilia make her choice. Then chooses to forgive her. She is even in a situation with Sun vs Ilia and most would be forced to chose, and Blake chose to pleed with them and not pick aside. She makes the choice to let her parents lead the white fang while she returns to her team. She chooses this. She goes to them. V6, Even the Adam battle. He asks her about why shes so sure she can win the fight, blakes response "I don't have a choice." He also says a few lines later "I know you've made your choice, and I've made mine." Then v7. Her and Yang talking about Robyn. Blake: "I know. But next time, I wanna make sure we don't have to, and I can tell you, ambushing a Huntress who's just trying to help isn't an option I'm thrilled about choosing." And later it was Blake that reached for Robyn's hand not Yang. Blake represents courage, and what is courage? Someone choosing to do something even tho they are afraid. Blake is surrounded by choice.
4. Blake isn't destruction. Besides Adam she doesn't destroy anything. She reforms the white fang. She turns ilia instead of killing/arresting her. She chooses to trust in Robyn. She was convinced that she was the cause of so much pain. But she wasn't and her coming to this realization was apart of her arc.
Ruby is destruction. Yes, she's hope and so many things. But think about Ruby. She's is an image of the grimm reaper. She's wields a scythe. She's a SEW, who's eyes destroy grimm. Yes, to protect life, but still. Her red trailer literally set this tone. Her trailer is the only one that is straight up killing like dozens of grimm. She blows up the courtyard. She kills the nevermore in v1. She takes Cinders arm and eye in v3. She cuts of Tyrians tail. She destroys Ozpin, she asked the question. She destroys the mecha. She lied to Ironwood destroying him too. (Haha ok Cinder helped). Ruby isn't just causing it, she's the one we see constantly seeing destruction. She sees Penny in pieces. She sees Pyrrha die. She sees the aftermath of Yang losing her arm. She is the one that find Jaune in the woods, seeing the aftermath of Pyrrha death. She is shown recognizing how bad Qrows alcoholism is. She sees what the hound really is. She is asked to kill her best friend. So much of Ruby's arc is SURROUNDED by destruction.
5. Vale and Beacon. Lwst be honest here. Ruby and Yang go to Beacon for prob 2 reasons. It's closest. And team STRQ did. But Blake chose it. She's from Menagerie. And she chose Vale. Yes, mistral and Atlas are out bc of racism. But Vacuo is like the least racist. She chose Vale.
6. Blakes major personal arc, about courage and stuff. That happened at Beacon and Menagerie. Its conclusion was in Mistral. We are finally gaining steam with Ruby's arc and we are ending the Atlas Arc soon and going to Vacuo.
7. Ruby has ties to Dorothy. Theodore is Dorothy and he is the headmaster of vacuo. I know, Blake is tied to the lion and thats in Mistral. But Leo does help cause the fall of Beacon and fails at taking down Haven.
Ok. I'm gonna stop, that last one was a stretch. But you get my point.

A Love Letter to LadyNoir
Tumblr media
I said I was going to write an essay about how great LadyNoir is, and I wasn’t lying.
DISCLAIMER I: All sides of the love square are wonderful! I love them all a lot, and this is in no way hate for any side. It’s kind of hard to say “this side is my favorite” without comparing it to the other sides at least a little, but the other sides are still amazing and I love them to bits too!!
DISCLAIMER II: Yes, Chat Noir is an ass to Ladybug when it comes to being rejected. This is absolutely true and I’m not going to defend that. Ladybug has every right to not want to be with Chat Noir, and him repeatedly asking her out and then openly moping about it when she says no, despite KNOWING she’ll say no, is very Bad. I’m not here to defend that. However, Ladybug and Chat Noir are 14, and Chat Noir is not only navigating love for the first time, but relationships in general as well. I’m not excusing it, and this is Definitely and Objectively a flaw of his, but it’s something he can (and I expect WILL) overcome and grow out of as he matures and realizes the error in his ways.
And after he grows out of it? Once Chat Noir matures and learns to be more respectful to Ladybug’s feelings? You know what’s left? The best ship ever, that’s what.
Here’s a list in no particular order about all the amazing things the LadyNoir side of the love square has to offer, and why it’s my favorite:
• Their aesthetic is literally picnics on top of the Eiffel Tower under the setting sun and racing each other across Paris’ rooftops.
• Do you like soulmate AUs? Because LadyNoir is basically a soulmate AU in and of itself. They are creation and destruction and the most obvious representation of the yin/yang part of the love square. They’re two halves of a whole. They balance each other out.
• Ladybug and Chat Noir actually argue with each other! This may sound like a bad thing, but... they’re the first side of the love square to get comfortable enough to tell each other when they’re upset with the other. I feel like that’s a pretty important thing. Adrichat is not yet secure enough with Marinette to argue with her, and Maribug is not yet secure enough with Adrien to argue with him. Ladybug and Chat Noir are so comfortable and secure in their dynamic with each other that they can be totally honest with each other when the other upsets them. basically, they can bicker like an old married couple and it’s beautiful
•They share a burden that literally nobody else in Paris has. The temporary heroes have gotten a taste of what it’s like, sure, but nobody but Ladybug and Chat Noir truly understand the lengths that they have to go through to keep their secrets, the frustration of having to slip away from friends/family to transform at a moment’s notice, etc...
Picture: Ladybug’s responsibilities start weighing her down, so she goes to confide in Chat Noir, the only other person who can at all understand what she’s going through. He holds her and reminds her of how amazing she is, tells her how much he believes in her, reassures her that he’ll always be there by her side no matter what, offers to take some of the burden off of her shoulders, and then ends it all with a silly joke that makes her laugh.
• Ladybug and Chat Noir sharing stories about their kwamis, horror stories about the worst-possible-times they had to transform, laughing about their worst excuses, etc. They have so much to bond over that is so specific to them.
• This may sound silly at first, but hear me out..... LadyNoir is the most honest side of the love square. Yes, they have the most secrets between them (they literally don’t even know each other’s names), but they also have the least amount of secrets. Does that make sense? Let me explain:
Ladybug is fully and completely aware that Chat Noir has a name and life that she doesn’t know about, and vice versa. They are completely aware that the other has secrets, and have openly consented to not knowing them. Yes, they know the least about each other— but they’ve agreed to not know those things, which cannot be said for other sides of the love square.
• The amount of trust between them. They literally trust each other with their lives on a daily basis, not to mention the amount of trust they have that the other wont take a peak when they have to detransform near each other.
• How in sync they are with each other. Ladybug and Chat Noir just understand each other so innately, even with minimal verbal communication. They understand each other’s body language so well, and I don’t know how many times Ladybug gave the vaguest instruction to Chat Noir and he just knew what she meant.
• Ladybug and Chat Noir met first. This isn’t really important, but I wanted to point it out anyways. The first time the love square ever met was when they were Ladybug and Chat Noir, and Ladybug was the first friend Adrien made besides Chloé. I just think this is a cute fun fact so I wanted to throw it in here.
• The forbidden love aspect. They can’t know each other’s secret identities... they don’t even know each other’s names, and loving each other is putting them at risk for being taken advantage by Hawkmoth... but imagine them hiding away on a dark rooftop, stealing kisses and telling each other about how much they love each other despite it all.
• There is so much ‘Adrien and Marinette never met AU’ potential with LadyNoir. Imagine it with pre-established LadyNoir... and imagine their reveal, and they don’t know each other, and they actually get to meet each other. Imagine the potential of a fic about a long-standing and committed relationship between two people who never learned each other’s names, finally meeting for the actual first time. Imagine them getting to know things about each other’s personal lives, introducing them to their friends and family, slowly learning about all the things that they’d had to hide from each other for so many years......... honestly, it’s a trope/au that I love SO MUCH and honestly isn’t touched on nearly enough. I could go on about it forever.
• Relationships dwindle and get strained... Adrien and Marinette might graduate high school, go to different universities, and lose touch. Or maybe they might become too busy to be able to make time for each other... LadyNoir, though? Ladybug and Chat Noir are stuck together at LEAST until Hawkmoth is defeated, whether they like it or not.
• Enemies AU potential. I mean, Hawkmoth is literally Chat Noir’s father... imagine an AU where Adrien has been tricked by his father into thinking he’s on the good side, that what he’s doing will save his mother’s life and no one will actually get hurt, and then he meets Ladybug, sees her give her big speech to Paris, and falls in love. Chat Noir fighting with trying to justify his father’s actions vs knowing that Ladybug is objectively good. Ladybug seeing the good in Chat Noir, knowing that he’s not evil like Hawkmoth, and actively reaching out to him... so much potential, you guys.
• Ladybug and Chat Noir are the most confident versions of themselves... which means that, as their relationship progresses and they get to know each other, they’ll slowly learn each other’s insecurities, short-comings, greatest fears, etc. LadyNoir starts with masks, and then the two slowly open up and learn about the vulnerable side of each other, and I think that progression is amazing.
Like yeah, Marinette learning that Adrien has a joking/flirty/silly side to him is great and all... but you know what I think’s even cuter? Ladybug learning that Chat Noir has a timid/sad side to him. And Adrien learning that Marinette has a powerful/confident side to her? Great. Chat Noir learning that Ladybug has a clumsy/awkward/insecure side to her? Amazing.
• The FLIRTING AND BANTER. And I don’t just mean Chat Noir... Pre-Glaciator, Ladybug would sometimes flirt back with Chat Noir if the situation wasn’t too dire.
Tumblr media
I mean seriously... these two together have so much chemistry. They’re so funny to watch on screen together / read fanfics of, and the way they bounce off each other is just priceless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now imagine them dating. Imagine all their playful banter and flirting, but tenfold.
• Ladybug pets Chat Noir like a cat.
Tumblr media
That is all.
• Do you like angst? Because oh boy... the amount of close calls that they’ve had together... the amount of times they’ve watched the other get hurt. The emotional toll that takes on them. The way Ladybug frets over him and pulls him up when he’s injured, the way that we’ve seen them look at each other and fear that it could be the last, the way that Chat Noir has literally sacrificed his life for her multiple times....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is an infinite amount of potential for "my love dying in my arms”, “I thought I was going to lose you”, and physical hurt/comfort scenarios with these guys, and all with a happy ending because of the Miraculous Ladybug Cure. Like, seriously.... there’s so much potential.
•They’re so emotionally supportive with each other. Seriously... the way they treat each other is so caring. Like, they care deeply about each other’s mental health, and the fact that these emotional scenes happen in the middle of such dire situations really helps to emphasize how much they’re willing to set aside in order to take care of each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In conclusion: The ML writing staff made the "Chat Noir can’t take rejection” subplot to nerf LadyNoir because otherwise it would be too powerful.

MK 11 Nozomi vs Canon intro fight dialogues part 1
Hey o, finally got part one of the Nozomi intro fight dialogues done. Same rules for the replaced guest character apply like the first time.
tw/cw: small implications of abuse and trauma
@yuvononik
enjoy below the cut
Barka vs Nozomi
Baraka: You took Shariah away!
Nozomi: She was left for dead! I saved her!
Baraka: Why should I trust what Quan Chi’s spawn says?
--
Baraka: You are not welcome here in Outworld, Nozomi
Nozomi: I think your Kahn would beg to differ.
Baraka: Kitana doesn’t speak for Tarkata!
--
Baraka: I know your dirty tricks, Goddess
Nozomi: Comparing me to that bastard necromancer isn’t a reliable source of information.
Baraka: Your personality and eyes are the near image of him!
Cassie vs Nozomi
Cassie: You don’t dress too fancy for a Goddess
Nozomi: Why should I? I’m only a Demi Goddess
Cassie: Stop the presses. We have a humble God.
--
Cassie: Wait so you’re like Kronika’s granddaughter?
Nozomi: She must not know I exist!
Cassie: Don’t you think it’s a little too late for that?
--
Cassie: You’re with the good guys, right?
Nozomi: As long as the “good guys” don’t hurt my children, then yes.
Cassie: Give me names, and I’ll make it an official SF order to bring no harm to them.
Cetrion vs Nozomi
Cetrion: My sweet niece, have you come back?
Nozomi: To try and close void again
Cetrion: Ah. So you aren’t going to stay
--
Cetrion: What does your mother say of your proposal?
Nozomi: As long as Rain makes me happy, then she’s fine with it.

Cetrion: The One Being calls to you.
Nozomi: Oh no! Not again!
Cetrion: Again? What do you mean again?
D’vorah vs Nozomi
D’vorah: The lost world’s demi-goddess
Nozomi: Not really lost if I never intended for it to be found
D’vorah: Kronika will merge it with this one in the new timeline.
--
D’vorah: Why refuse Kronika’s offer?
Nozomi: Kind of hard to accept someone's offer when you're being held prisoner in a cave
D’vorah: You should not blame Kronika for the One Being's rashness.
--
D’vorah: This one does not fear you.
Nozomi: Good for you? Look I really don’t care.
D’vorah: Not the reaction this one was expecting
Erron vs Nozomi
Erron: You and Rain sure are quite the match.

Erron: You really ripped Kotal a new one.
Nozomi: There are two types of people I can’t stand. Argus and liars.
Erron: Give me one good reason to pray to you.

Nozomi: If you don’t want to do so, then don’t.
Erron: You’re not good at this god thing are you?
Frost vs Nozomi
Frost: Since Michiko’s my mom, does that make you my platonic grandma?
Nozomi: Stardust Frost, I’m not old!
Frost: Aren’t you ageless?
--
Frost: What can you offer me Nozomi?
Nozomi: Love. Safety. Revenge.
Frost: I already get love and safety from mom and Reiki. But about the revenge thing.

Frost: Very funny, grandma!

Fujin: You’re the one helping Michiko in her quest for vengeance!?

Nozomi: No reason you need to worry about
Fujin: Nozomi, talk to me.

Jacqui: So is she gonna be our secret weapon?

Nozomi: Out of all the deaths I have witnessed, why did that one bother me the most?
Jacqui: I’m sure your dad’s out there somewhere.
Jade vs Nozomi
Jade: I found your mother’s temple
Nozomi: So Michiko has told me
Jade: Your mother was quite the informant
--
Jade: Will you help Kitana Kahn?

Jade: Then who do you suggest?
--
Jade: Are you really Raiden's daughter?
Nozomi: Platonically I am.
Jade: Platonically?

Nozomi: I lose my shit once, and everyone calls me unstable
Jax: You lost your shit more than once Nozomi

Nozomi: There’s no point in the union if I’m going back to my world.
Jax: Have you talked to him about this?
Johnny vs Nozomi
Johnny: I’m confused. Is Quan Chi or Rai-dude your dad?
Nozomi: Biologically or?
Johnny: With as protective as Raiden is of you, I'm going to assume it's Raiden.

Johnny: Earthrealm’s savior has arrived!
Nozomi: Oh, what a pleasure it is to meet the famed Johnny Cage.

Kano: Guess yer about to teach me that lesson?
Kitana vs Nozomi
Kitana: If it wasn’t for you.. Mother would still be..

Nozomi: I blame my dad.

Kitana: Liu Kang and I will miss you

Kollector: Are you also a collector, Nozomi?
Nozomi: Yeah. Of debts.
Kollector: You and I would make great business partners
--
Kollector: What is Shariah’s status?
Nozomi: Her wounds are healing tremendously. Nyx is keeping her company.
Kollector: If that Saurian tries anything with her..
--
Kollector: How is it Mileena, Tanaya, Skarlet, Nyx, and Phantos get to see Shariah, but I can’t?
Nozomi: She requested them. And I know they wouldn’t try to take anything from my world.
Kollector: So she’s still mad at me?
Kotal Kahn vs Nozomi
Kotal Kahn: So you're the Nozomi Raiden has bragged on so much.

Noob Saibot: I have seen that rage in her eyes before. There is no mistaking it
--
Noob Saibot: As Quan Chi’s daughter, you will take over the Brotherhood of Shadow.
Nozomi: Shouldn’t that technically go to Melantha instead of me?
Noob Saibot: Shinnok’s daughter has chosen to stay in Orderrealm.
Raiden vs Nozomi

Rain: I don’t feel comfortable with you going to Orderrealm alone
Nozomi: I’m just visiting my cousin Rain.
Rain: Melantha isn’t the problem. It’s Hotaru
Scorpion vs Nozomi
Scorpion: So you’re the reason for Michiko’s wrath against the gods!!
Nozomi: I am the Goddess of Revenge! Why does everyone forget that?
Scorpion: Because that is not the impression you give Goddess.
--
Scorpion: Tell me, why does Michiko hate me?
Nozomi: She’s just afraid Reiki would leave her for you.
Scorpion: Reiki leaving a wonderful woman like Michiko? That’s impossible.

Sindel vs Nozomi
Sindel: I thank you for waking me from my corruption
Nozomi: It wasn’t an easy task.
Sindel: I imagine it was not

Nozomi: Heard he was a crosser. Thought I’d teach him a lesson
Sonya: You are some sadist.
--
Sonya: What’s Kronika’s deal with you?
Nozomi: She thinks being nice to me will make up for what her husband did.

--
Sonya: From the way Raiden spoke about you, he seemed really proud.
Nozomi: So I’ve been told.
Sonya: You should stick around, for his sake.
Sub-Zero vs Nozomi
Sub-Zero: So you are the one who saved Michiko all those years ago?

Quan Chi: I trust your judgement.

Hotaru: Madam Nozomi.
Nozomi: General Hotaru.
Hotaru: Here to see Lady Melantha I presume?

CONGRATULATIONS, SAY! YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF RYUK.
Admin Jen: Say, I wish there were words to describe my joy over your application. Not only because you’re bringing us my beloved Pale Rider, but because of the beautiful way with which you captured them. There was so much to love about your app, but I have to admit that it was the para sample which stole my heart. Ryuk’s voice, his image of the other Horsemen and the way it bled into his dialogue throughout, the nuance in his perspective and the small tics in his mannerisms. It was all so vivid, so visceral, and so mesmerizing to take in. Although I absolutely cannot deny the impact of all the other sections in the app, which only served to amplify the portrayal and bring it to life in a way that left me so thrilled to leave Ryuk in your hands. I trust you with him completely, and I pray for the New World to bear their arrival. Please create and send in your account, review the information on our CHECKLIST, and follow everyone on the FOLLOW LIST. Welcome to the Holy Land!
OUT OF CHARACTER.

ACTIVITY LEVEL | Hopefully around 6/10! I check the dash basically every day for replies, but whether I get to them or not is a completely different story 🥴 Also, given that this is a highly literate roleplay, it may take me a tad longer to craft replies and post them, but I’m confident I can meet the 8 post/month minimum that you outline in your guidelines.
TIMEZONE | EST / UTC-5.
TRIGGERS | REMOVED.
HOW DID YOU FIND THE GROUP? | A mutual of mine reblogged some of the first promo posts onto my dash. From then I’ve been following the group, and I finally got a chance to read through all of the lore / word-building you guys have done and I am super impressed.

CHARACTER
Ryuk.
WHAT DREW YOU TO THIS CHARACTER?
I will admit that when I was first browsing, I had the worst choice paralysis because all of the biographies were compelling in their own way. The Angels and their pretentious morality, the Demons with their freewheeling madness, the Gifted toeing the line between mortal and divine, desperate to survive in a world with their powers… That being said, I kept on going back to Horsemen because of their remarkable existence across Caelum, Sanctus Terra, and Infernum. Not quite Angels or Demons, and far from mortal, I interpreted them to be the closest beings to God the world has, given that they were torn from the flesh of God Himself.
This steadfast solidarity between Viktoria, Ryuk, Nerissa, and Dmitri really hit me square in the chest. Four distinctive beasts, hungry for bloodshed, are dropped into a world already ravaged by devastation at the hands of God’s own creations — so they take solace in each other, even broken from their original purpose. And yet, even amongst these four outliers, Ryuk stood out to me even more, because of their innate understanding of the ravaged world before him. While Nerissa raged for their stolen war, while Viktoria mourned their own creation in Purgatory, while Dmitri adjusted their child-like senses to their surroundings so starkly different whence they came, Ryuk intrinsically knew of their role on this plane of existence.
I recognized the subtle intricacies woven into Ryuk’s biography, and wanted to challenge myself by writing a character whose desires, motives, and perception of the world is markedly unique from how I interpret my world. What sort of purpose could a Horseman have when stripped of their divine right and design? What do the immortals fear when they are bound with eternal life? What could Death himself fear, when they know the unknowable, and have the power to exact their purpose?
All beings, regardless of their time on earth, fear death in some way. For divine beings, it is the possibility of their destruction through their infinite life, and for mortals, it is the inevitability of it that induces fear. But what about Death himself? Is it possible that they could be terrified of it as well?
PLOTS.
DISCLAIMER: I illustrated a few points that rely on the development of other characters, most specifically the Horsemen, but it will all obviously rely on me working out the details with other players.
I. A HUNGER FOR DEATH PROMISES A STARVATION OF LIFE — a division amongst a former whole.
We begin the story with the Horsemen being a single unit, working alongside each other in relative harmony, existing as mercenaries for the highest bidder. In a world teetering on the fragile truce between the Angels, Demons, and Mortals, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse walk alone, united in their understanding that they are unlike anything else walking the holy grounds. Without each other, they have nothing — so they remain close together out of deficit rather than benefit. However, in each of the Horsemen’s biographies, you’ve outlined a faint, yet irrefutable line dividing the four. As it stands, the division relies on recognition; Ryuk has always understood Nerissa and her cause more than he sympathizes with Nerissa or Dmitri. So what if that line became a crack?
I’ve interpreted the current division to lie within the fundamental conflict of bloodlust vs. power, with Ryuk and Nerissa lying firmly in the former camp, though this would all be hammered out with the appropriate muns. But the interest lies within the Horsemen, and what would happen if their loyalties suffered an upset — who would they pledge their allegiance to?
II. MONSTERS, WE ARE NOT SO UNALIKE, YOU AND I — an unlikely understanding.
This brings me into the next plot point, which involves Ryuk’s connections to the other factions.
Within my app, I sought to base much of Ryuk on what he is not — and their antithetical existence to Cade is something I played with deeply in this application. As hungry as they are for blood, there is a distinct lack of intention behind their killing, as if they inflict death because they are a Horseman. It is why the division is so crucial for Ryuk to begin to align themselves to a cause. A trap I don’t want to fall into while writing them is not giving them a fear to hold onto. I think the fascinating part about Ryuk is that they were birthed out of God’s terror of His unknown — and that is precisely what they fear the most. They feel safe and powerful when aligned with his fellow Horsemen, but without them, what do they know?
The details of what would sweeten their attraction to any cause is something I want to keep open, rather than delineate extensively here, but the core of it is the same: to lower them down so that they may see the light in another’s faith.
III. IN MY END IS MY BEGINNING — a touch of Death.
And here, we end with a renewal of their perspective. Some sort of mortal injury happens that gives Ryuk a taste of their own medicine, perhaps in saving something they have truly learned to care about, as much as their dark heart will allow.
Given that they fear losing their power and dominion over mortals, throwing them into a situation where they are possibly injured by one is a surefire way of allowing Ryuk to face what truly lies dormant underneath: what is their purpose? And why are they here and living, despite having their purpose erased so long ago with the death of their Creator?
Perhaps this will finally give them a hunger for something more than just taking souls and money for it.
ARE YOU COMFORTABLE WITH KILLING OFF THIS CHARACTER?
As long as it serves a specific purpose for the long-term prospects of the group’s plot, 100% yes.
IN DEPTH.
DRIVING CHARACTER MOTIVATION
I admit that this is the one of the parts of the application I struggled with, because for all intents and purposes, Death’s purpose has been ripped away from them. They, along with the other three Horsemen, were created for Earth’s apocalypse — but now that they’ve been thrown into the world without it, in some ways they are lost beyond comparison.
Even so, Ryuk was still built to thirst for mortal blood at their hand, and as of now, that base instinct is what they actively rely on to move through the world. They are desperate and hungry for the souls they’ve been promised by God, and nothing more.
And yet, I think they are also terrified of what it means to be stripped of their purpose. There’s this tentative resentment they hold for the world that no longer needs the Horsemen to wreak havoc, and yet, a terror that overtakes them when they think of fully relinquishing what they’ve been handed down from God. A fear of incompetence, the unknown, and the uselessness they feel is what drives Ryuk to continue to do what they’ve always known. After all, it’s easier to believe in a belief they’ve held close to their chest for so long.
CHARACTER TRAITS
( + ) RESOLUTE | Permanence: it is the one thing Ryuk knows to be true. Mortal blood expires, and nobody knows it better than the harbinger of Death himself. It is what makes them loyal, unwavering in their beliefs in their tar-black soul once he has made up their mind. ( + ) ASTUTE | It is impossible to be foolish when he has the ghosts of the past right at his fingertips; a history, laid before them like an open book. And what are first impressions, when they have the still-lingering souls to guide him along? Not much escapes their eyes or ears, and they use their gift well, for himself first, and for the Horsemen second. ( + ) VIGILANT | All that knowledge, always within reach — it would be a shame if they did not apply it well. Though he can be quick to react, it is rarely out of ineptitude or  undisciplined impulse; it is precisely the wealth of information he gleans that makes them all the more wary to enter into a situation without identifying the risks first. They are adamant on victory, not by anyone else’s terms but their own. ( – ) DUPLICITOUS | He has no qualms about trickery, or resorting to underhanded means to get their way. After all, what is integrity to a being that values Death above everything else? What is honor to a Horsemen without a future, when Death is the period, the endmark to every creature with a beating, bloody heart? ( – ) RUTHLESS | When Ryuk first learns of the word mercy from the spirits’ whispers, they can barely fathom the concept. Sparing another out of the benevolence of one’s heart? It’s practically laughable, given their own penchant for cruelty when faced with their victims. He is ( – ) PASSIONLESS | And one wonders: what could make such a merciless killer unflinching in the face of their purpose? Yes, they relish in every single kill, just as much as his compatriots, but in the end, he does it because it is all he knows. One cannot mistake the devotion they show for passion, the very fire that ignites the circle of life. No, Death will not and cannot be acquainted with life, no matter how many live souls they take for themselves.
PARA SAMPLE
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” — Matthew 24:36
From the beginning, at the very break of their conception at the hands of God, Ryuk is told they are the antithesis of emotion. It is an age-old story of the hero, their origin a simple blip in the vaporous, golden-god kingdom from which he is torn, cast into darkness until their path is clear — but Ryuk is not a hero. No, they are told that some day, they shall wreak havoc across the mortal realm that He has forged to collect their birthright of the damned souls roaming the earth. When? It’s insolence, a rare bit tumbling out for his Creator, He who has torn a part to make their whole.
You will know, and it is thunderous, the cadence of his voice, that even Death quivers, when the gates to the mortal realm opens. And then, they are thrown into their realm, devoid of anything but dust and half-formed souls. They know this, because the moment they’d slipped into the aphotic depths of His plan is the exact moment they hear their wails, deafening, ululating, even for their immortal senses.
And oh, did they wail. Told stories of dominions and dirt, of princes and peasants, a swarm of the dead desperate for the ear of a God — or however close they could get to such a being. Time and time again, Ryuk would swat the cloud away, gaze always focused in the distance, where the dark smoke broke into a line of halcyon shimmer, and they’d ask Him ( pray, a soul whispers ) for their birthright, their infernal kingdom of souls.
Ages pass. They hear nothing. They see nothing. The gilded line shrinks. But what is time for an immortal? Still, they hunger for the permanence of their existence; here, in this inchoate cavity of God’s creation, they are useless. The void is a steadiness of not quite death, but the absence of life — a temporary, an unhappy medium that they cannot satiate themselves on no matter how hard they strived. When? They think again, but He is long gone, in His heavens with His angels and His mortals He’d bore out of Love.
In the ages to come, they will begin to understand this. Tales brushed in human concepts, of Love and Fear and Ecstasy and Hope, of those dominions and dirt, the princes and peasants. In the ages to come, they will see that the mortals flourish, souls rising to Heaven and Hell without their touch. They will see the expanse of God’s love for His children, in fractured pieces of the half-gone souls’ shrieks, wondrous at how He could destroy something He’d built from the sands of the lands. They will ask why did the mother forbid her to marry her lover? and the souls will answer, because she loved her daughter, a babe she’d birthed for nothing in return.
“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” — Matthew 24:7
And what they mean to say is — no, they do not understand. How could God, in all his love for his mortal creations, bring their deliverance, Famine and War and Conquest and Death, upon the moral planes? What is their purpose aside to destroy what He has created? To understand the world is to hold it in one’s hands and inflict upon it an inconceivable love, of which they had none in their ichor-stricken heart.
They resent God for this. They resent their purpose, and yet, they walk the earthly plains alongside their comrades, knowing that even God has succumbed — and so they hold their faith, deal their foreordained havoc in spades.
“For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty.” — Revelation 16:14
“You must have mistaken me for a being of mercy, of which I am not.” Viktoria’s nostrils flare. Ryuk’s voice is low enough that the others do not catch the impertinent remark, the subtlest of digs on what she prized most. Within visible distance, Dmitri fiddles with a mortal contraption, one of the many gifts from his beautiful admirers, and far off, in the other direction, Nerissa sharpens her blade on a slick slab of quartz, eyeing her two comrades with a watchful eye.
Among them all, fallows, burnt yellow and unseemly, spread out across either side, an end distant and impossible. In this part of land, there is nothing but rainfall and smog, untraversed by even the most seasoned of travelers, which, of course, had made it ideal for the likes of the Horsemen. Nothing but tar black clouds roamed the sky, save for the sliver of white in the horizon, a marker of Caelum to the North. The line glows, and Ryuk is briefly struck by the likeness of their environment to the emptiness from which they came. If they listen diligently enough, the winds almost mimic the agonized shrieks of undamned souls, and it completes the resemblance, far too uncanny for their liking. He shifts on his feet, left and right, and tugs on his ear. A cue, he’d learned, then committed to muscle memory, to ward away the spirits when they were not needed.
“And as always, you have failed to listen. And they say you can hear the spirits with those ears?”
It is Ryuk, this time, that prickles under the weight of the insult. Viktoria, as always, has fashioned herself as the brains of their expeditions, always pointing out their next destination. He cannot blame her; of the quad, they all know she is the weakest, but her passion for their good fate flares stronger than his own. Viktoria, always the one hungering for something more. A desire for a bite of the heavens whence they came.
To each their own, they suppose.
“I have provided all of us with good information, have I not? Saved our good health, if I remember correctly,  more times than I desire to count.” Their sharp glare meets the other’s steel-bit fire, and she huffs.
“And what are your qualms of this plan? Do you plan to serve this diseased Tridium for our eternity?”
Besides him, the souls begin to howl. Cry out, they will hunt and kill you, they have weaponry, blessed by the something dark and holy, and yet, another faction beckons, they are no match for the Apocalypse, they are not as strong as you believe —
“What is it?”
They snap out of their trance. In the centuries they have known each other, they have all learned each other’s behaviors like their own kin. Like the flicker in Nerissa’s jaw when she lusts for blood, the fondness glimmering in Dmitri’s eye when he spies a mortal he desires. They’ve all seen the half-slack stupor Ryuk undergoes when he channels the voices of the dead, most of all Viktoria, but he brushes her away, throat cleared with a rumble.
“Nothing. They caution us against it.”
“And?”
The sinew in their neck tenses. “And there is nothing else. We all know that some mortals are still gifted. They hold the power to our demise as much as we for theirs.”
Viktoria scoffs. It is clear, in her stance, from her gaze, that she does not believe he is giving her the entire truth. “We will need more than that if we are to carry through with it; perhaps, they can tell us the size of their armory, or perhaps how it could be of use to us...“ Eyes averted, she begins to pace a small distance. They can already see the cogs turn in their brain, assembling their scheme for an upset of power across the lands.
“And who has agreed to carry through with this design? Dmitri?”
They look up. Viktoria, who’d been addressed; Dmitri, who’d believed they'd been summoned; Nerissa, who’d smelled the whiff of conflict. The lines, there are always the lines. Viktoria with Dmitri, himself with Nerissa. Left unsaid, but voice did not negate the fact that the line is a truth, hanging amongst them like an errant thread, impossible to sever even with the sharpest of blades. “You don’t believe we can do it?”
They stare, unflinching against her black gaze, because for all that they lack with their deadened atrophy and rot, they fill themselves with the faith that there will always be more souls to take. They do not prescribe themselves to a greater fate other than the one that has been given to them, from God, their Creator. What use do they have of power, when they had all that they required in the present?
“If we take this job, do this favor for this mortal, we will secure an ear in the ranks — a cousin of a member of the Round Table, and we can use leverage, to raise our status, to find these heavenly instruments to mine for crystallis —”
“Of which he has none, Viktoria, in case you have forgotten!”
From the corner of their eye, they see Dmitri flinch, Nerissa cease her movements to sharpen her blade. They are always like this, vying for a position that neither of them particularly desire, but ages have passed since they’ve come to terms with their uncertain fate. They’d been dropped amongst mortals and divinity alike, across barren lands and built cities, alone in their status as creatures of God, literal in every sense of the word. He had torn them, the four of them, from His own celestial body, had He not?
They are quiet again.
Mere mortals would have raged, now Ryuk knows this. It is the security of more that protects (or rather, exposes) the others to wars, seething with blood and blades, to the black certainty of hatred that infected the strength of their ranks, susceptible and raw. Their net, of course, had perished along with the annihilated remains of God’s and Lucifer’s immortal bodies. They had nobody, and would have nobody else, until the end of time.
Perhaps they all realize this, sheepish expressions flitting across their eyes, the sunken hollows of their cheeks. Jagged as they are in countenance and disposition, Ryuk has realized they have gone too far in their words. His head hangs an inch lower, shoulders hunched in sour defeat. It is all that they need for the mood to lift. Viktoria nods, and they mount their horses, in implicit agreement that they would defer the conversation for another time.
They scan the fields. It is still sunken, stinking of something burnt yet still living, sodden with the foul scent of mortal dirt. The gales have only reinforced their vigor, screeching through the vast space, washing away their bitter anguish — but the winds are just that, the earlier parallel lost, if only because they had three others by their side. They have survived the fire, and they will survive, untouched, riding their noble steeds into the winds, not separate, but as one.

Draudnu are a truly ancient form of demon, and exist in constant conflict with more “modern” fiends. They represent a time before mortals came in contact with the Abyss, when demons were primal monsters of pure destruction, and have never adapted and evolved over time. Filled with hatred toward the “impure” modern demons, with their forms and desires shaped by mortal fear and influence, they have no true place anywhere in existence and small numbers of them lay siege to all of reality in their fury. They slaughter other demons whenever possible, though they are not really strong enough to pose a threat to greater demons and so mostly just tear through lesser ones.
The primal horror of the draudnu burrows into the minds of other creatures, deeper than fear. Anyone who gazes upon a draudnu too closely feels a terrible dread of something getting planted deep into their body and soul. A horrible, squirming thing that they know is present and growing, feeding off of them. Someday it will drain them of everything they are, bursting forth in a violent, fatal birth and bringing a new evil into the world. Of course, nothing can detect this supposed parasite, and those few who know of draudnu and try to study them debate whether this is a real thing or just a psychosomatic creation of the ancient demon. Given that the magic required to drive out the conviction is the same kind that would likely be needed to strip out a demonic parasite however, none so far have been willing to hold onto this potential growth long enough to be entirely certain.
To see a draudnu is to see monsters almost entirely free of mortal expectations of what something living should look like. While balor, dretches, mariliths, and even nalfeshnee have portions of their form that look like animals or people, the draudnu predates all such beasts and instead draws from what may be pure chaos. It’s body is about the size of a human torso, between 3-5 feet, with three long legs that protrude from the top of its body with trilateral symmetry. These legs have two knees to allow them to rest on the ground below the draudnu’s dangling body, and despite this awkward arrangement of limbs the creature can move at exceptional speeds. At the “head” of its body it has a single, massive, red eye that swirls with strange patterns, which is surrounded by three arms tipped with bone hooks. It’s body is covered in thick hairs and diseased looking pustules that swirl with thick, noxious acid. When it stabs a creature with its bone hooked arms, it can slam the hook into the nearby ground or another surface and then break it off, leaving the creature impaled and trapped to the surface. The hook grows back near instantly, allowing the draudnu to keep fighting without any delay.

Draudnu hate the Diabolist more than any other creature, as they view her influence upon demons as the ultimate example of how ancient demons have fallen. To be conjured and directed by a mortal, any mortal, is a shame they cannot abide. The Diabolist may actually team up with the kinds of do-gooders she normally laughs at when a new pack of draudnu show up and start shredding their way through her legions and weakening her control over her demonic summons.

If a thing loves, it is infinte
A small story that I wanted to rewrite, to honor the mighty Vergil and his son. Reader is the mother of Nero.

Chapter 1 Hell on Earth
There once was a man, feared and respected. Loved and hated just the same.
There was life and death, pain and happiness.
But despite every terror there was on the mortal world, there was some unholy powers, trying to rule.
But what should be ruled, if there was no one left?
There was a group of Hunters, known and led by the famous son of Sparda, Dante.
The Devil May Cry.
But what of the Legends if they go mising?
Heaven, Earth and Hell, what would be the missing piece in this chaotic mess?
The world was a mess.
Where once had been peace and the wonder of creation, was only despair and terror now. Angaelic beings have watched over the mortal realm long enough. Demons only caused chaos, destruction and pain. All they cared for was ruling the world only causing despair. No matter how often humanity had been at the brink of utter destruction, there always was someone to take a stand. One of the most honorable ones had been the Dark Knight Sparda. Had he once been the right hand of Mundus - the king of the underworld - he realised that justice needed to be brought to the world and rebelled against his king, defeating his army and sealing him away along with his own power, leaving him on the human world.
To take revenge upon Sparda, the Demon King ordered his loyal monsters to elimnate Spardas family, murdering his kin. During this attack, his mortal wife Eva got killed, the twins she had born and raised for a few years survived but lived through the trauma differently. And neither of them had a pleasant memory of it. Just loosing everything. Home and family. Years have passed and while one of the brothers became a danger for the world always seeking for more power, the younger twin became a hunter - later creating Devil May Cry.
Hunting Demons and fighting his brother over and over again that was something that never changed, no matter how many years passed. But of course even this time peace didn't last forever.
And again the world needed someone to save it. And one of them was Dante, the now legendary Hunter. Earning  himself quite a name over the past decades as a proud Son of Sparda, wielding the Rebellion and mastering many weapons over the decades. A new demon King alone would have been not a big deal, not for Dante if there wouldn't be that gruesome Demon Tree, now taking a hold of Red GraveCity. Emerging from the ground, raising high into the sky and slowly taking his childhood home apart. Dante did not take this job alone. By his side were Trish and Lady, the most dangerous Women the world had seen so far. If there was someone out there to cut the tree down, it would be them.
But for once, the Son of Sparda went missing.
And that murderous tree was still standing, sucking the blood out of the humans living in that city and as much as the military tried to protect the mortals of Red Grave, their strength was far from enough. And whatever manged to survive the roots, probably got devoured by demons or killed by debris and everything that got thrown around. But if the Qlipoth would collect enough blood, it would grow a single fruit that was forbidden and powerful. Fullfilling the true desire of Urizen: Endless Power, making him the new true King over the Underwold. But also it was rare. Only once every thousand years it could grow.
Over two thousand years ago it had been harvested by Mundus, and the tragedy that followed then lead to this day. But without the Devil Hunter, how should they prevent the tragedy to repeat itself? Maybe mankind never learned from it's mistakes... But for the divine and cursed, there was no such rule. As they remembered it all. Stored in ancient tomes and memory, never to be forgotten. Always to be told, even if mortals no longercared, They forgot so fast, life always passing by in a blink.
But not everything was lost. It was just a matter of time and perhaps a young Devil Hunter needed, who was desperate to beat the Demon on his stupid throne, polishing his ugly face. One failure was enough for the kid named Nero. Even after being called a 'Dead-Weight' he tried to help those that couldn't protect themselves, but for that he had to get stronger first. Recover. He was not all alone, yet it might took a little longer than he wanted to, knowing that this was not his final goal. He wanted Urizen. But after loosing his right arm, there was a lot for him to get used to.
And while the impulsive boy cursed Nico and her way to drive that van, the annoying screeching of a bird echoed through destroyed buildings over broken streets and people turned to dust.
"Ey, V! Ey, EY! Are you listening?", Griffon complained, landing on a broken door that was about to break in, caused by the weight of the monster bird. "Of course.", the thud of a closing book followed and the slender man moved into the direction of the bird, accompanied by the constant sound of his silvery cane, hitting the ground to support his steps.
"There's so much pollen here, I might be starting to be allergic!", the bird continued loudly and faked a sneeze.
"But as long as there might be a chance to find someone who is alive, we can buy the boy more time." "Time, time, time. Always the same chatter, You gotta move! Maybe we should get a vacuum. Ey V, can ya use one if I find one? Nah..Whatever.  No time for that, r-rrrright? ", the annoying voice askeed and distanced itself from V, the door finally breaking down as he left his fomer spot and revealing another room that was abandoned and covered in dust and pollen, the remainings of a couple was laying on a bed, their bodies curled around each other, trying to comfort themselves in their very last moments. V just silently passed the room, watching the pair dissolve into a cloud of pollen. It was all Urizens fault. So many lost souls, innocent humans forever gone, who would remember them? For a while it was all quiet and calm - until there was Griffons voice once more.
"Yo! V! You gotta see this!" Silence. "Seriously! I think someone's alive!" That actually made him hurry at least a bit. V knew that he certainly wasn't in shape to run around like the boy Nero. It actually took him long enough, that Griffon met him halfway, urging him to move faster. "Hurry, Shakespeare." The building was too fragile to bust through walls, the risk to injure or kill whoever survived was simply too high and V was on a 'Be-Nice-Trip'. Perhaps they couldn't save everyone, but every single soul that survived, was one less to feed the Qlipoth, even if he was not really the biggest fan of.. helping. It was simply odd for him, Griffon didn't really understand that. Didn't matter, he had a contract with V and did as he said.
His cane scratched over the ground now and then as he made his way over the rubble, trying very hard to not fall over his feet as he barely had the strength to keep up that fast. The screaming of Griffon got louder with every step, that bird certainly growing impatient with every moment that V didn't show up. Griffon flapped his big wings in front of a door, yelling annoyed as the black haired man finally made it to his side. The thing that had kept Griffon from the potential survivor was a door. V rolled his eyes and raised hsi cane to tap against the door. "Are we playin' ''Knock, knock'' or what? Now is not the time,V!", The Bird teased V.  But there was no sound coming from that room, not a single reaction. A black giant cat manifested in front of him and dashed against the door. It had been quite stuck, the frame no longer in shape but at least the door open.
And this had been the only option to get a look inside. He had tried to open it the normal way. But with a malformed frame and all the roots around it of course wouldn't be that easy. V huffed as he finally entered the room, having a quick look around. It had been used as an ballroom, he mused. A few big round tables at the side, surrounded by the equal amount of chairs. Unless they were flipped around, destroyed or pierced through by the Qlipoths roots. The giant chandellier in the middle of the room was no longer intact, half of the luxurious golden branches were wrapped by roots , a few glass shards below it, silvery petals and to Vs surpris: fresh drops of blood. Griffon was flying around and stopped in front of a tall window that was halfly covered by curtains. The drops gathered, until there was stain - as if something had been dragged along. More roots blocked the way outside, but he assumed that whoever had been a victim of the Qlipoth, was outside most likely about to die. Even if the blood was not complely dry.. If there was hope..
The painful scream of a woman pulled him out of his thoughts and made him pick up his cane once more, Griffon already looking for a clot of blood that could help them to make it through. Not in this room. But perhaps in the one below, as some of the roots had made their way through the ground. If they hurried, they might made it in time, finding whoever was standing against the Demon King as well. Chances never were big, but they had to start somehwere, he would meet Nero soon enough. A little detour would not change much, if he was honest. Shadow and Griffon at his side he hurried out of the room again, Shadow dissolving into mist below his feet to make V move without effort and much faster than before. Every second did count. Another scream, followd by a grunt. Metal that was hitting against a solid surface, Over and over again. But with time the beating got less, rapid. As if someone was loosing their power  or the will to fight back. It took him a good while to actually reach the exit of this place, having to face a few nasty demons on the way, but of those he and familiars quickly took care of and finally were able to proceed and stumble outside, walls behind them cracking and breaking down as the support of the roots slowly vanished, now that they were cut off from blood sources. It was bright outside, the sun still fighting against the looming shadow that was cast by the growing demon tree, clouds and rain usually controlling the mood of the day. So it was indeed a surpise that at least for once the sun made it's way through and reached the ground.
And there you were, in the middle of group of Empusa, blood dripping down the right side of your face, a deep cut hovering over your brow. You certainly had seen better days, like everyone who was alive lately in Red Grave City. Your hair was a mess, sprinkled with dirt and blood and stuck to your face. And it was you  who had been fighting, the weapon of choice a rusty pipe that nearly was as long as your entire arm. But to be fair, against the sheer amount of enemies you barely had a chance and every kind of weapon would do. Countless bruises showed up wherever your clothes had been ripped into shreds, your arms and legs suffering from deep cuts as well. It was not exactly a surprise that a civilian wouldn't make it among the Empusa. But it also explained the lack of your strength.
The pipe slipped from your bleeding hands and you forced youself to kneel down and pick it up, smashing it with a feral scream into the next Empusas head. V had the urge the help so he did send his familliars to support you. Those beasts were not a challenge for Griffon or Shadow, but they had to be careful not to injure you by accident. Your reflexes were so slow and it probably was just the adrenaline that kept you standing. "Ahah!", Griffon laughed and smashed against one of the demons, making sure to avoid your arm as you still tried to hold your ground. For a human you didn't do so bad. It could be better, but considering that you were a mere mortal in that mess of this city this was outstanding. With the help of Shadow and Griffon it did not take long and the fight was over, your breathing uneven and fast as the adrenaline still rushed through your veins. You nearly dropped your weapon of choice as Griffon sat on top of it, eying you closely.
"So Missy, why aren't you out of this city?", the bird asked and you seemed unfazed by the fact that there was a speaking bird. But if there were armies of demons attacking a city - a speaking bird should be the least of your worries. "No time." you panted and tried to brush some of your hair back but only made it worse. Ah right, the blood. "Perhaps you should leave now, while you can.", the young man suggested and you turned to the raspy voice, eyes staring at him.
"Your bird...is speaking, Sir.", was the reply you gave him as the said bird landed on his outstretched inked arm. For a while he held your stare, before the corner of his lips twitched up into a smile. "That he does indeed.", the bird ruffled his feathers and tried to present himself proudly. But you barely watched the bird, trying to flex your fingers and try to get a solid grip around the pipe again.
"But it would be best if you take your leave as soon as possible. We can offer you an escort, if you wish.", the man insisted while the bird complained that they had no time for that. But the man just assured the strange coloured avian that it was fine and you breathed through. "I am capable of taking care of myself, I am sure you have something else to do..", a polite decline but your muscles were sore and the cuts needed to be tended to. If there was a spot that wasn't close to falling apart you actully could take a minute. Running water would be great. And bandages. Maybe you should have thanked them. But your mood was as low as it could get. These insects were disgusting. And bug spray did not exactly help. A rusty old pipe wasn't working that well either.. "Let's go V! Missy doesn't need any help and the boy's waiting for us."
You wanted to wave them goodbye, wishing them a safe journey. You wanted to assure them that you could manage. But the ground started to shake and rumble below your feet, the street tipping to the side as another root made it's way to the surface -looking for another source of blood to feed the Tree. But while Griffon pulled V out of danger, you weren't so fast. The fair skinned man turned around as soon as he had solid ground below his feet again, risking a look to see if you made it as well."Oh shit, V. Guess that's it for her." Your upper body was pierced by one of the roots, the bloody tip facing downwards, your life essence slowly dripping down the plant. The impact left no air in your lungs to scream as there just was the shock and pain. The pipe creating a clattering sound as you let go of the weapon, closing your hands around the sharp end of the root as you tried to pull yourself from the pointy end, desperatlly forcing your muscles to make it work. No, you were not done yet. There was no fucking way that you would be stuck on a root and bleed out, No. Fucking. Way. V and his familiars moved again, hurrying to find the source of the root and destroy it. Even if Griffon was pretty sure that you wouldn't survive this. No one would survive that, humans dried out in no time and fed the Qlipoth by that.
"Slice them." Shadow moved quickly through the horde of monsters, Griffon cackling as he unleashed his power upon the enemies. You didn't know where they went but after a felt eternity, you lost your balance as the root dissolved and released your body. Coughing and spitting out blood you sank on your knees, watching the blood pool around you. The taste on your tongue was sweet and coppery, your breathing uneven. "Shit.", you cursed and blinked desperately to keepy our eyes open. You were well aware that if you closed your eyes now it would take long to open them up again. It was getting so cold. So dark. So painful. Slumping to the side you felt blood plastering your skin, starting to dry as you slowly drifted off. You couldn't give up now. There was so much that you needed to do. So much that you wanted to get done. You were going to be fine. Not. But there was not a minute that you could waste on that thought. You couldn't give in. Death was not a option.
"Ey, Shakespeare! She is still breathing!" A warm hand gently moved your chin to the side and your eyes fluttered open once again. Dark green eyes looking down at you. Was there the hint of a smile? Indeed. "Don't worry." What a gentle voice. Maybe it did sound a little different. Maybe just now, maybe it was something familiar... It was hard to tell with the drumming in your head. And while you felt incredibly light and comfortable right now, there was something that just seemed wrong. You didn't notice how the old phone in the distance was used to call for a Van that would pick you up, as he had more..pressing matters to follow. But there was something calming in his voice, as he nearly promised you that you would be fine. And while he waited, sitting right next to you Shadow curled around your form kept you warm company. V pulled the book from his jacked and started to read for you. Voice soft and melodic it was absolutely calming to listen. Neither V or Griffon knew if you would survive this and In case you would loose your life here, he at least stayed by your side  reading  poetry to you. Sometimes, even if only for a short moment of being wake you thought that he sounded as if he was sorry. But then there was the melodic tone again, enevloping you like a blanket, helping you to drift into so much better moments. Now and then a breeze graced your skin, whenever Griffn circled around to check for the Van or your state. What was it now, that made you cling to your life? It was your goal. Your memory, your dream.
"Seems like she doesn't want to die. Reminds me of someone. huh.", You wanted to return something, but your lips didn't move as you wanted to and your tongue was heavy. Your entire body was sluggish and unable to follow even the easiest command. At least somtimes you managed to move the thumb of yours. Just a bit forth and back, trying to focus on the nerves to not loose consciouness. That at least was a battle that you managed to win - no matter how much this man was reading to you. Another felt eternity passed and then even you could hear the sound of brakes, a car that rushed over the broken street and just came to a stop mere centimeters away from you. You would have been unable to move anyway. But that V at least hadn't seemed worried about that part. The sound of the cane retuned and stopped just right next to you.
"It does seem like she can make it." Did he sound relieved? It was so hard to tell right now. "Yo, chickee- out of my way!" Once again you felt even lighter than before, noticing the scent of cold smoke that now surrounded you like a cloud. Your feet bumped against a wall as you got carried somewhere, hearing a woman swear over and over again. At least she didn't try to make it worse, considering the state you were in anyway. "No peeking!" The arms that held you before awkwardly let go of you as you were placed on some sort of bench, your head hitting the rest for the back with a dull sound. And there was another curse from the woman as she tried to have a look at your wounds.
"This Lady had been hella lucky," Your forehead started to burn as something was applied on your cut, followed by a gauze. Same for your arms and legs. Tiredly you groaned and forced your eyes open, it took a good while to focus on something. The room was filled in a big cloud of smoke and the lightning was everything but good for the eyes. But it didn't take long and you noticed at least where you were. Inside a car: a van.  And the woman you looked at seemed friendly. Or surprised that you woke up so soon and stared at her. "Mornin' Sweety. You should take a good nap and I'll drive that Van to the border of tRed Grave, Here's no place for ya."
As much as you wanted to insist, a blanket was laid over you, carefully tucked into your side and it was so heavy and warm.. You didn't have an interest in fighting back anymore. It was so warm and cozy and the pain slowly faded. Still you noticed the constant chatter between the woman and the bird. Now and then the voice of the man breaking through the silence. But you weren't surprised that it was not quiet for long. The door to the Van got closed, a lighter was used and then the engine of the car started to howl. It didn't matter that you were supposed to sleep, your mind tried very hard to stay awake. And in the end, you lost. The next time you woke up, the car was no longer making a milkshake out of you. You felt much better than before. The pounding in your head was gone and the pain in your chest as well. Your skin itched caused by all the dried blood.
"Ey, sleeping beauty is awake!" You slowly tried to sit up, only to be hit with a towel right in your face. "take a shower, sweetie. Just go to the back of the Van." The woman introduced herself as Nico, before she started to fiddle around with a box. Besides the towel she also handed you bandages and some clothing that was not your size but at least it covered more of your skin, that what you were still wearing right now. "Thanks..", you muttered, overloaded with all the stuff that was given to you and bumped your head on a cabinet as you tried to get up. Oh great. The bird started to laugh with a cackling sound and you just growled weakly while squeezing yourself through the Van. Shower..Shower. Ah! Hidden behind that corner. It took a while to arrange yourself, telling the bird to not even dare to peek. V - apparently the guy that had saved you, didn't seem to be type to do something immodest. But the Bird.. Tsk. Stripping out of your clothes you stepped inside the shower, playing around  with the handles to adjust the temperature of the water. While trying to find the perfect setting for yourself, you took of the bloody bandages. The skin underneath was mostly smooth, the tissue of the your skin had been knitting itself together pretty fast. Only a few old scars showed up on your arms, legs and between your shoulder blades. The only scars that you still could feel.. But at least you managed to keep them out of the sight of strangers, so no one dared to ask.
Finally bare you used the water, working your hair with something that was supposed to be shampoo. But it took nearly forever to even get the all dirt out of your hair. The water remained red for a good while, just slowly turning lighter as the water turned cold. Leaning your forehead against the wall you breathed through, allowing the cold water to run over your back, the steady feeling of water drumming on your skin was able to comfort you. You couldn't even remember when you had your last shower. It didn't matter if the water was warm or cold. You just wanted to feel clean, wash all the gore and blood away. You could not stay here forever. Even if the thought was temping, so you hurried to clean yourself up as fast as possible and picked  the towel to rub yourself dry. This probably had been the best shower you ever had taken. Or at least in the last few weeks. Reaching outside to grab the clothes you stared at the bird and the bird stared right back at you.  Was that thing serious? Throwing the blanket at that thing you cursed it, promising it to make some soup out of it as you harshly grabbed the clothes and slammed the cabin of the shower again. Empusa? No problem. But a Demon Bird that had been waiting infront of the shower for you to finish?
Creepy as fuck. With damp hair and dressed you made your way outside and crossed your arms in front of your chest., judging the avian with a look, that made him flee with a screeching sound and landing on the shoulder of his master. "Whass' up, Missy? Afraid to join us?" Well, that didn't work as planned..You certainly wouldn't tell the bird that an apology was in order.. Instead you turned your attention towards the woman at the drivers seat and smiled grateful.
"Thanks for the shower..and the clothes. I will return that kindness to you." "It's fine, Miss. Got the boy to pay for me, ain't that right, V?" The man just huffed and agreed quietly, but didn't look up from his book. He simply turned the page and hit the demonic bird with the length of the cane to stop him from doing more nonsense. Or you really would make some soup out of him. Nico took a pull from her cigarette and leaned over her seat as she eyed you while puffing out some smoke.
You hated the smell, but she had cared for your and still planned to drop you off at the border of the city. As if there was a way for you to leave this place. You weren't done yet. No. The new Demon King needed to be stopped. And there still were people out there that could be saved. And you were able to protect yourself... Just not like this, "Lookin' much better without all the blood.", Nico hummed and eyed you really closely. Did she notice? The eyes behind the round glasses were sharp, but if there was something your host saw, Nico didn't mouth it all.
"And your overall state seems to be fine. You recoverd fast,", the mysterious man mused and you knew that you had to think of a story about that really, really quick. Unless they let the topic drop. By the looks of it he had a contract with demons. That you could see clearly.. But desperate times...
You shook of that thought and turned back to Nico who just inhaled deeply to start talking. "We'll move on tomorrow. If ya want, take a walk outside. V needs to clear the street for me." "Why don't you do that yourself?", the Bird asked and ducked as Nico threw some packaging at the Bird, who simply dissolved into ink and got absorbed by V's body, the small box meeting black hair. He didn't look all to happy with that situation, but you decided to indeed take a walk outside and leave them alone with the discussion.
It was darker than before, cloudy and even a bit chilly. The Van was rusty and severally damaged, now that you actually had a chance to have a look at it.
With a sigh you tried to fix the pants that you were given. Loose fit at least.. But maybe you needed a belt for them soon. Unlike the Van, the air smelled like rain. You couldn't help but inhale deeply. It certainly wasn't smart to get out with damp hair, but a cold in times like these couldn't be worse than demons and Trees from the Underworld. The street the Van was parked in was meant for one way only and there were some roots in the way, ah - the ones V had to get out of the way.You wondered how far...Oh. Nevermind, you could see the tree from here. A few fragile buildings left and right, cracked ground and so many inncoents that were dried out and leaving only shells behind. The bodies would dissolve fast enough and there was nothing you could do. Only keep the fallen in your memories. How many families were ripped arpart? If the Gates of Heaven would open for the victims?
Walking around the Van you hummed a familiar tune, until you were interrupted by a cloud of black ink, slowly building itself into that bird from before. "So..Miss.", you leaned against the Van and looked up to the Demon, his wings nearly hitting your face as he started to fly in front of you. "What is it, chicken?" "You're not human, are ya?" Raising a brow you crossed your arm in front of your chest and looked up to the bird. "What makes you think so?", was the only reply he would get. Griffon cackled and sat on top of the Van, ruffling his feathers proudly. "Your not dry like a raisin", he squeaked and used his beak to hit your head. As if to play 'Knock-Knock' .. Did his master not know about that birds own mind?
"It runs in the family." I was not even a lie. Just not the entire truth. But there was no reason to explain yourself to a Demon. "Nah, Nah. Not good enough, you hear me? You might fool the others, but you can't follow a Demon. Not the mighty Griffon!" That saved you the introduction. Griffon.. Didn't ring a bell in your head. Leaving the spot at the Van you took a few steps and turned around to face the avian, the hint of a smirk on your lips. "Smart little bird. But does it matter? There are more important matters to focus on." He cackled and there was electricity in the air, his position towards you didn't seem to be friendly at all. "Need to know if you cause any problems for V. So?" His eyes focused you and something was shifting in the air. Demons. "Listen, Demon.. We wish for the same. And now get your master, things are getting ugly."
The street indeed filled with all the nasties, you were unable to count the amount of demons, but thankfully V was leaving the van and regarded you only with a look, telling you to stay inside. "You just recovered, it might be best...to sit this battle out." "Don't worry..V. - I shall be fine." "You can't be serious, now Ihe two watch you both?! I'm not getting paid enough for this shit!" This time you smirked for real, but didn't even plan to go back inside. That bird was right. But thankfully he didn't know about your origin or the abilities that lurked deep within you. There was more to this world than just Devils and Demons.
It was time to bring back the light to this city.

Occult Concepts you might have missed in Good Omens
Nah, I get it, we’re ethereal not occult. But you’d be lying to yourself truly, if you said you weren’t interested in the occultism, philosophy daresay ontology presented in the Show in the Good Omens. And in case you haven’t stared in the bath shower and deeply and meaningfully assessed the concepts underlying your favorite apocalyptic romp. Then I’m Here to Do that for you.
Ofcourse you obviously should have watched the show.
Ready?
As you’ll ever be.
1. Choice is part of Humanity
Tumblr media
It all started and ended with a garden. The two main characters being the ones who… hmm godfathered this aspect of humanity.
Crowley, the snake, who tempted people to first ever know what good and bad is. And Aziraphale – an angel who either let, or was incompetent enough to let it happen. Didn’t even try to smite the first two humans or the demon Crowley. Just this awkward fumbling on top of a garden wall with an impending storm.
This is repeated again by the angel when he is reprimanded by the archangels – it is not for “us” (angelic realm) to decide – the humans have free will to decide good and bad.
And in the whole course of the story – these two almost eternal entities have “gone native”. Or acted more human. Liked sushi, liked wine, and bentleys and music.
And Made their Own Decisions.
Especially for Aziraphale, who disobeyed orders for the first time in his really long life. It was uncalled for, an act of “treason”. Crowley by the end even said “i think the big one will be “all of us” vs “all of them”“referring to all of humanity vs heaven and hell.
He referred to himself as human. He’s choosing to be human, by the end of the story. Just as much as Aziraphale redefined himself by exploring who he is outside of the angelic box, Crowley has been since the beginning was quite intent with being a lousy demon anyway.
Yes he did tempting. But he is so gloriously an incompetent demon. And as etheric beings, these two are very relatable to the audience, acting as main characters and the main POV that the audience lives through. And they’re not cold or of higher existence (like some angel channellings). They’re so delectably human. Not because this is a piece of fiction, because the whole argument is:
They want to be human. They like their choices, no matter what the consequences.
Which is echoed by adam by the end, who reckoned any apple was worth eating and worth the consequences. And by what manner is this occult?
Tumblr media
Well in Ken Wilber’s model of consciousnesses, the difference of humans from other living beings — what separates us from vegetable, animal and sky is our capacity to define itself. Meaning tomatoes more or less tomatoes. But humans have an almost infinite limit on being anything. They define themselves – that is our nature.
Our Choice is our humanity.
And as much we kind of hate out existence a lot of times, it’s really refreshing to see near immortals liking and even being jealous of the way we exist. Of what would be the shaded echoes of our flailing in “who am i” and so forth…
2. There’s Good in Evil, there’s Bad in Good
Or otherwise known as paradoxes and koans being the underlying fiber of all of reality… say what?In every creation lies destruction. In every delusion reality. In every push a pull. In every death a birth, in every order there is chaos.
Two sides of the same coin. Or in taoism would be the yin yang symbol.
Meaning, Good Omens doesn’t just argue against moral dogmatism…
Good Omens, if you look hard enough, is saying opposites dance inside of each other. All. the damn. time.
The two characters are literally sworn enemies (angel vs demon) who find allyship. The destroyer of worlds is the one who saves it (adam). The major screw-up that made everything start aren’t even necessarily people being bad or good but people being people.
Which really argues not for a moral gray area but an acceptance that we’re paradoxically both all the time depending from which way you’re looking and interpreting. Meaning it’s a mess, it’s crazy, partly why it’s so ineffable, and that maybe we shouldn’t be so stuck up thinking so highly of ourselves.
Tumblr media
How is this occult? Well. You’ve ever heard of shadow work? Chaos Magick and Sigils? Have you ever actually met occultists who unironically summon demons with a dagger and a cup and spill their own blood whole shebang?
I have. I even fell in love with one. But the point of the matter is, that this logic isn’t some cutesy theme for your supernatural romp. It is an actual force of nature harnessed by actually living witches and mages. Meaning the dark – the things you’re afraid of facing, what lies in your subconscious, the forces of destruction, bad luck and curses — it all operates under that assumption.
That it is the half of the coin of existence. That as much as we hate to face our traumas, that some people would get triggered and regressed and spiral to really hellish shit – the treasures you seek are in the cave you’re most afraid of. Or the demon you’re most afraid of. Or the scar you’re most horrified to feel because you think it will eat you alive.
A lot of occult work is mastering your demons- your self, your fears. Utilising fear to your own advantage, acknowledging it, dancing with it. And gaining greater awareness.
And recognising they’re you’re best friend and they’re looking out for you. Kind of like how Crowley undoes Aziraphale and allows him to walk into what he most fears. Betraying heaven. Through, well.. Love which is the unconditional empty space which allows the two opposites to play. Or leela, in yoga.
3. What the demon Crowley has, is the power of the imagination.
Tumblr media
The story is not short of law of attraction moments. Or let’s just say the whole operation of how things come into being with a human boy having no upper limit of choosing how things should be.
Tumblr media
Should I remind you, both the anti-christ and christ came here to be human? What is this facet of human being that these supernatural forces might want?
Oh right I talked about (1) already.
Anyway, take it from me your friendly neighborhood actual witch that is Magick. Old School Magick, simply willing things to existence. And I’m actually seriously happy with how occultic-ly consistent this entire series is?
It’s even, loving?? with the usual topics that cover any good wiccan new age enthusiasts in how it depicts Anathema and atlantis and the fascination with peace loving aliens. Which leads me to another paradox which I’ll write as (3.5)
3.5 It is written.
Paradoxically [2] you both have Choice [1] and Destiny [3.5] coexisting in your narrative.
Every rebelling that Crowley and Aziraphale did that was against their etheric nature was written in Agnes’ Nutter’s book. It was both a choice and destiny.
Tumblr media
Even Anathema who was loyal to her family’s prophecies and takes pride in being a witch, burned the next prophecies of Agnes Nutter not wanting to be just a descendant. Another choice, or maybe just another destiny.
Aziraphale and Crowley themselves comment on this in the bench waiting for a bus to come asking – what if this was part of her divine plan? What if all this choosing and fighting was planned too?
And they only answer — who knows? What if they’re the same thing?
As much as I seriously adore the #ineffablehusbands, I also adore how deep into the occult philosophical rabbit hole you can get in terms of duality and what it means to be human with this giant ass story. Which is also handled so well by so many of the fandom’s art and fanfiction in AUs and interpretations of demon!Crowley and angel!aziraphale as humans or in their post-apocalyptic humanly existence may it be cottage or bench.
Tumblr media
How do humans judge themselves to be unforgivable? In how many viewers is --an Aziraphale who can only think of themself as this “good” or as a Crowley who can only think of themself as “forsaken”?
How are we paradoxical and human? How can this be an okay thing to be? Something left to be desired by our favorite demon and angel?
Good Omens is hopeful. It’s underlying beliefs, are beautiful, loving and yeaaaa occult. A+ from this witch right ere.
Here’s my occult esoteric blog if ya’ll curious:

Combining two better sequels than GT into one...
Tumblr media
Part 0 – Details
Dragon Ball Multiverse is a Fan Manga that is the creation of Salagir and others. It is their attempt at creating a better sequel series than Dragon Ball GT. And for a time, it was considered much better as it featured the concept of a Multiverse Tournament pitting numerous what if universes against each other. But over time, people are questioning that since of a few issues I won’t mention. But before Super, it was definitely the better Sequel.
Dragon Ball Super is the OFFICIAL sequel series to Z that takes place in between the last episode of the Buu Saga and the final episode of the series. This was created after Multiverse but it does have similarities to the Fan Manga, but you could argue improved over it. But what if Dragon Ball Super was in Multiverse and their various interpretations of numerous characters. So here is how its going to go...
I am going to replace Universe 10 of Multiverse to insert Super. I originally was thinking of Universe 2 being mostly Toriyama's other works, I went with 10 since basically all of them were fodder. 8 fighters and whoever didn't lose forfeit before entering the ring. Also, for this story, Super as a whole will be represented, so I am bringing others from the other universes into this. I'll explain the in universe reason, but I feel it would be neat to see how some of these concepts would interact with each other. Also, this will follow the Super Anime continuity since I know that better than the Manga.
Tumblr media
Part 1 – Before the Tournament.
On Whis' planet, Goku and Vegeta were training when they got a visit from the Vargas. Whis allowed them to arrive as he was curious. These creatures were not of this Universe and he suspects not even from the ones under Zeno's Control. They explain to Whis and the others about the concept of Multiverses when Whis corrects them on it being specific timelines. Goku hears this and wishes to participate, but before they could Whis must get permission from Zeno.
Both Zenos are curious of these other Universes not under their control. They wonder if they are something worth keeping or something they will destroy. So they allow Whis to create a team to participate and show the might of Zeno through their selected picks. Goku tells his friends and family about it and while there are no stakes, those who have the time to do so will come along to see the fun. Goku also gives this invitation to Broly and his friends. While Broly refuses to participate, Cheelai does convince him to at least watch the action.
Thanks to Frieza's spies, they overhear this tournament and how the prize is a wish from a Dragon Ball. And seeing an opportunity to possibly beat Goku, he volunteers to take part in the event. Whis, knowing Goku's wishes, asked for volunteers from Universe 6 and Universe 11. From Universe 6, Hit, Cabba, Caulifla and Kale all wish to participate. Hit specifically being hired to do so by Champa to get him that wish. From Universe 11, Toppo volunteers while Jiren and Dyspo will come along. Jiren, learning the power of team work, wishes to better himself in that aspect by trying to provide emotional support to Toppo.
So the participants of this Universe 10 will be as followed: Cabba, Goku, Frieza, Caulifla, Toppo, Vegeta, Kale and Hit. Spectators will be Beerus, Whis, Bulma, Bra, Trunks, Goten, Chichi, Gohan, Videl, Pan, Krillin, 18, Maron, Broly, Cheelai, Lemo, Berryblue, Kikono, Jiren and Dyspo. When they enter the Tournament Universe, they are surprised to see the competition.
Universe 1 featuring nothing but Supreme Kais. To Whis' surprise and Beerus' frustration, they don't seem to recognize that they're an Angel and a God of Destruction. Universe 2 has weird looking creatures, one of them even being Arale that both Goku and Vegeta remember during the World Convention Conference. Knowing her, Vegeta was worried that they're all from Gag Mangas. Universe 3 has some person with a sword and what looks like a scientist on a floating ball.
Universe 4 is only represented by the second form of Majin Buu. Despite looking the same as when they fought him, they can feel his immense strength. Universe 5 seemed to be a no show, but the organizers confirmed they are there. Universe 6 featured an alien gang while a group of earth females are next to them. And Universe 7 features a lone Namekian. Caulifla has a feeling of dejavu when seeing him, as if he was familiar to her. Universe 8 was what looked to be the full Frieza Force. Frieza looked at them intrigued to see his old forces once more. But was confused of the third figure he doesn't recognize.
Universe 9 featured nothing but humans. This surprised Krillin to see himself like the Old Turtle Hermit. Universe 11 featured Babidi and his two minions: Majin Buu and Dabura. Cabba recognized that Majin Buu from the Inter-dimensional Tournament Universe 6 and 7 had. Universe 12 had Future Trunks, but not the Future Trunks they know. Universe 13 has Vegeta with Nappa, Raditz and what seems to be Goku but working for Vegeta. And Universe 15 featured a lone woman who seemed to be pregnant.
Both Universe 16 and 18 look eerily similar to each other, but there are some differences. The biggest surprise is seeing Vegetto there. He informed them that the Portra Earings kept him together forever when Whis informs him that they were supposed to last an hour for a mortal. Vegetto seems surprised to hear this. Universe 17 featured Cell and a Cell Jr. Goku wonders if he got a Golden form like Frieza. Universe 19 have these weird looking humans with what seems to be high tech armor. And Universe 20 featured Broly in an ice cube.
Universe 16 and 18 are surprised they haven't heard of Broly, and more so when Universe 10 informs them that Broly is right there. They're also disgusted that Frieza is part of their team for all the horrible things he has done, but Goku tells them about how he helped save their universe in the Tournament of Power. Frieza is quick to reply it was only because of a promise of his resurrection and will eventually defeat Goku once and for all. And then the tournament begins.

Part 2 – Round 1
If they are not mentioned, the fights happen exactly as they do in the original Fan Manga. But these are how the matches will go when Super is included.
Universe 13 Nappa Vs Vegeta
Nappa asked Vegeta what happened to his Nappa. Vegeta responded that like Universe 18's, he destroyed his Nappa. He then went on to go Super Saiyan. Seeing that he's no match for Vegeta, Nappa forfits.
Universe 18 Goku Vs Frieza
While Goku saw Universe 8's Frieza to be weak, he can sense this Frieza to be much more powerful. Goku goes Super Saiyan, which surprises both Universe 16 and 18 because they expect Frieza to lose. The fight goes terribly for Goku. He's putting a lot of effort into it yet Frieza is playing around like back on Namek. Even going Super Saiyan 2 and 3 fail to bridge the gap. Frieza decides to end it as he has Goku by the neck. Frieza remarks that he dreams about this exact moment, but throws him out of bounds instead. He comments that while it would have been fun, it wouldn't be as satisfying as the real thing.
Universe 8 Reacum Vs Toppo
It begins as a pose off as they try to out pose one another. Recoome is impressed because all of Toppo's poses end in an explosion. Toppo offers to explain how its done if he forfits, but Recoome tells him no. Toppo one shots him.
Universe 18 Vegeta Vs Cabba
This Vegeta is closer to Cabba's power level, so it is a close fight between the two. Cabba has the edge in terms of strength, but with Vegeta's cunning he manages to defeat Cabba. Universe 10's Vegeta said it was a good try, but he's still a long way to becoming a true Saiyan elite.
Universe 18 Pan Vs Goku
Goku is impressed that Pan grows up to be a fighter. Pan knows she can't win, so she gives up. But I can see it being a nice talk between the two.
Universe 3 Tapion Vs Kale
Tapion doesn't want to hurt Kale, but knows he has to fight to win. Kale wasn't confident but with Califla cheering her on she got the confidence to defeat Tapion, even after using Hirudegarn. Universe 16 and 18 sees her Saiyan Berserk form and think its eerily close to the Broly they know.
Universe 20 Broly Vs Universe 16 Vegetto
As the fight goes out of control, Whis protects everyone from Universe 10 and offers it to anyone else. Broly looks on horrified that this creature who shares his name is more like an animal than a person. Bulma asks them why they aren't out there fighting and Vegeta informs them that this is still a tournament. So this is Vegetto's fight. Despite the power showing, none of Universe 10 are impressed.
Universe 5 XII Vs Hit
Since there is no bye, XII sends his Avatar into the ring. He tries to do the whistle trick like he would have done to Vegetto, but because of Hit's own time manipulation abilities he kills XII the moment they hit the ground. XII decides to wait until the Dragon Balls arrive before making his move.
Universe 2 Nekomajin Vs Caulifla
Basically his fight with Gotenks but one round earlier. So he takes a dive when everyone betting thinks he would win.
At night, before the Colds can execute their plans, Universe 10's Frieza and his associates arrive. He informs them to not bother as the Dragon Balls are not here. He also begins to ask about the whereabouts of Captain Ginyu. Universe 8 Frieza begins to bad mouth Ginyu as Cold shows no obvious signs. Universe 10 Frieza begins to compliment Ginyu about his loyalty, regretting that Vegeta had killed him. They leave as Berryblue and him confirm that Cold is Ginyu.
Tumblr media
Part 3 – Round 2
Universe 8 Frieza Vs Vegeta
Wasn't even worth the time, as Vegeta wins with one hit.
Universe 14 Android 17 Vs Frieza
Even easier than when Goku fought Android 17. Frieza was disappointed since the Android 17 he fought alongside him won the Tournament of Power.
Universe 18 Uub Vs Toppo
Toppo takes it easy on Uub because he sees a nice kid. Uub does his best, but Toppo is still much stronger and more skilled than the reborn Majin.
Universe 13 Kakarotto Vs Goku
Goku is confused about how he got like this. Kakarotto goes all out, even in Super Saiyan Form, but Goku doesn't even go Super Saiyan to fight him. Goku eventually wins showing how much of a gap of power is this Goku to a Super Saiyan.
Universe 9 Kulilin Vs Kale
Krillin tried his best, but Kale was just too much for him. So he decided to go with a sob story to take advantage of what seems to be her good nature. It works as Kale gives up so Kulilin can advance. Caulifla is upset while Krillin thinks that maybe not all Saiyans are bad.
Universe 16  Vegetto Vs Hit
Vegetto is the most powerful fighter in his universe, but despite everything he just can't seem to hit Hit. There was nothing to study in the previous fight because it was over in an instant. Vegetto believes he can win if he just lands a hit, but its basically a repeat of Hit Vs Vegeta. The exception is Hit is using his Assassination Skills like when he did against Goku in Round 2. No one can tell how Hit is capable of doing so, but Majin Buu of Universe 4 seems to have a theory. Vegetto tries as he might, even going Super Saiyan 3 like he did with Broly, but Hit eventually lands a knock out blow. It normally kills but his fusion physiology kept him alive. Since Vegetto doesn't wine like he did before, Buu doesn't go nuts later on.
Universe 18 Gotenks Vs Caulifla
Caulifla does have difficulty fighting Gotenks since his fusion does put her around her level. But once he defuse, she easily takes them out. Kale asks the other Gotenks about how to do the dance.
Majin Buu decides to try to help Universe 10 in the night, but Whis and Beerus are there. Beerus destroys the Buu piece completely.
Tumblr media
Part 4 – Round 3
Frieza Vs Vegeta
This is the other universes first chance at seeing the true strength of Universe 10. Frieza shows off his Golden form. Everyone is shocked and amazed at such power coming from Frieza. Even Buu wonders if he has the ability to defeat him. It is then Vegeta's chance to show off Super Saiyan Blue. Those who can't sense energy are amazed at seeing a Super Saiyan that isn't the typical golden form. Those who can are confused. Vegeta is showing no signs of energy. But the Supreme Kais recognize it as God Ki. They felt it was blasphemy for Vegitto to exist. But now a mortal wields the power of a deity. The fight is more intense than anything the other universes has seen. But Frieza eventually used the rules against Vegeta to get the victory.
Universe 18 Vegeta Vs Goku
Vegeta asks Goku to show him that power. Like Vegeta before him, Goku goes Super Saiyan Blue. The Supreme Kais once again are upset at the fact a mortal can wield God Ki. Vegeta admits defeat as even he knows at his state he can't beat Goku.
Universe 17 Cell Vs  Universe 9 Kulilin
Krillin tries, but Cell is just too much for him.
Universe 14 Android 18 Vs Hit
Hit once again wins in one blow. But luckily due to her Android body she lives.
Universe 4 Buu Vs Caulifla
Like against Gotenks, Buu tries out the armor. She dodges the Carbonite unlike Gotenks.  But once that runs out of juice, he tries something different. Buu tries to mimic Hit's fighting style. He tried to use speed, but it doesn't seem to be exactly like hits. Its still effective, but not enough to win easily like Hit. Eventually Buu out lasts Caulifla as she tires herself out.
Universe 16 Son Bra Vs Universe 8 King Cold
Happens exactly the same until the Change. Instead of going to Universe 16 to pretend to be Bra, he goes to Universe 10 to pledge his loyalty to Frieza. Seeing the return of Ginyu with a stronger Frieza, all of Frieza's forces leaves Universe 8 to go to Frieza. Frieza, Cooler and Vegitto are upset but since each of them transferred to Universe 10, they're now part of that universe. And anyone who attacks another universe outside the tournament are immediately dispelled.
Whis decides to end this farce as thanks to his own abilities, he restores both of them back to their proper bodies (well, Ginyu to Cold’s). While Frieza is glad to see his forces back to almost full force, they still need to catch up with everyone else. But Berryblue and Ginyu can help them with that.
Tumblr media
Part 5 – Babidi's attack
Every participant who can't be controlled by Babidi is teleported away. So everyone in Universe 10 was taken away, including the newly instated Captain Ginyu. Due to his reignited loyalty to a Frieza who appreciates his contribution, Babidi is unable to bring anything out of him.
Frieza's forces seem to be under Babidi’s control, but Berryblue's authority overrides it. She commands them to not fight, which they do. One does try to say otherwise, but she proves why they should listen to her. With a lot of reduced allies, Babidi does not have a leg to stand on. Even Cell decided to drop the act when he realized there's no real need to carry on. Eventually, only Buu and Bra are still standing for Babidi's side.
Buu tries to go for the attack, but Jiren decides to step in and stop him from hurting others. Bra went after Universe 10 when she got punched a great distance. She made Broly angry.
Jiren Vs Majin Buu
Jiren is a lot more powerful than Majin Buu, but thanks to his physiology Buu is hard to destroy. Luckily the others who had experience fighting him warns Jiren of his abilities to absorb, turn people into candy and the like. Jiren thinks the only way to defeat Majin Buu is to completely destroy him. But to do so would destroy everyone around him. Dyspo then volunteers to fix that problem by grabbing him by the ponytail and bringing Buu very far from the arena before he noticed. Dyspo went back as Jiren fires a beam that completely annihilates Majin Buu.
Bra Vs Broly
She's confident that she can beat Broly since her father can do so as well. The Majin Boost even allowed her to go Super Saiyan 3. But this Broly is not only a lot stronger, but able to adapt to her tactics at an alarming rate. One moment she thought she has a tactic to give her the upper hand, the next Broly counters. Even the Senzu Beans she uses aren't helping as Broly is a superior fighter all around. With one last hit, Broly sends Bra flying back into the Arena knocked out. As he goes down to finish him, Cheelai stops him. By this point, Babidi is dead and anyone who was under his influence are back to normal.
And since that’s where Dragon Ball Multiverse is at this moment, that’s where I’ll stop. What will happen in their future? Who knows?

Sonic Villains: Sweet or Shite? - Part 11: THE MONSTERS OF THE WEEK
There are some villains I like. And there are some villains I don’t like. But why do I feel about them the way I do? That’s where this comes in.
This is a series of mine in which I go into slightly more detail about my thoughts on the villains in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and why I think they either work well, or fall flat (or somewhere in-between). I’ll be giving my stance on their designs, their personalities, and what they had to show for themselves in the game(s) they featured in. Keep in mind that these are just my own personal thoughts. Whether you agree or disagree, feel free to share your own thoughts and opinions! I don’t bite. :>
Anyhow, for today’s installment, we’ll be cancelling our flight to Tokyo as we look up at the impressive size of a particular recurring brand of foe in Sonic's universe: the Monsters of the Week. (Excluding Chaos, who we've already covered.)
Tumblr media
So for reasons that should be obvious, this edition of Sweet or Shite is going to be a little different. Seeing how we’re covering more than one villain - and since you can only say so much about characters who aren’t really characters - this will instead be a series of mini-reviews, one after another, for each monster. I figured this was the best course of action since the alternative would be to go back and forth constantly between the monsters, and that would just be messy.
Also, none of these guys have much in the way of personality aside from “DESTROY FUCKING EVERYTHING GRRRRRRR”, so I’m not even going to bother analysing their “personalities”. Everything else will be the same as usual, of course.
And yes, I’m treating Iblis and Solaris as individual monsters. Because they barely have anything in common despite being the same beast.
Right then, we’ve got a lot of these king-size bastards to cover. Let’s go.
------
MONSTER #1: THE BIOLIZARD
Tumblr media
The Gist: In the endgame for Sonic Adventure 2, the late Professor Gerald Robotnik was revealed to have programmed his Space Colony A.R.K. to crash down to the planet and destroy it should the Eclipse Cannon be equipped with all seven Chaos Emeralds. The heroes and villains teamed up to combat this threat (thus completely negating the game's Hero VS Dark selling point), and together, they made their way to the cannon's core.
What they didn't expect however was for their target to be guarded. In order to stop the A.R.K. from falling, they were forced to deal with the Biolizard, Gerald's original attempt at creating the Ultimate Lifeform before he decided to take a page from the Sonic OC booklet with his second attempt, Shadow. Thanks to seeing the error of his ways courtesy of one Amy Rose, Shadow himself confronted his older sibling, and Knuckles used the Master Emerald to cancel out the power of the Chaos Emeralds, thus preventing the A.R.K's collision...
Just kidding. As if to laugh at the very idea of Knuckles actually having a useful role in this game beyond treasure hunting fodder, the Biolizard immediately used Chaos Control to assume direct control of the A.R.K. in order to continue its collision course. Sonic and Shadow had no choice but to go Super, and with their powers combined, the Biolizard was beaten for good, the A.R.K. was stopped once and for all, and Shadow died but not really.
Sonic and Shadow were hailed as heroes. Even though everyone else contributed too. But apparently, only the heroes with super forms are allowed to be on the President's desk.
The Design: The Biolizard is a failed prototype, and it shows.
Tumblr media
He's gonna sweep them bitches off their feet with a face like that.
Surprisingly, I actually dig his design. It's a bit messy, sure, but that works to his benefit in this case, since as a failed creation who demands a life support system just to function, it's justified within the context. It's a cool mesh of organic and technology, and it perfectly demonstrates the horrors that can come with trying to play God and creating life.
Unfortunately, his final form is underwhelming. He "fuses" with the A.R.K, but don't get your hopes up. It's the same design as before, only... well...
Tumblr media
Yeah. It's just... right up there. All the way through.
The Execution: The Biolizard technically doesn't come out of nowhere, since there's a Dark Story cutscene that foreshadows his existence. But he still feels very WTF in spite of that. This adventure involving G.U.N, Dr. Eggman, and a feud between two hedgehogs, and this thing is the final challenge? It doesn't help that despite the relation, he feels very disconnected to Shadow's story when compared to Gerald, Maria, etc. (And yet ironically, he's the most interesting part IMO.)
So in regards to proper build up for a final boss, he's a bit shit. But since I like his design, and since his theme music is kickass, I'll give him a little step up. Just a little one.
Crusher Gives the Biolizard a: Thumbs Sideways!
------
MONSTER #2: IBLIS
Tumblr media
The Gist: In the future, everything was a shitehole. This was due to a terrible beast known as Fire Chaos Iblis, who spread his penchant for destruction everywhere he went, leaving behind nothing but ruins in the process. A young hedgehog named Silver, and his friend named Blaze, have fought him for a very long time at the expense of Blaze's actual backstory, but nothing they could do kept Iblis down for long. Desperate to save their world, they followed the advice of comic relief character Mephiles the Dark, which was to find the so-called Iblis Trigger of the past via time travel, and destroy him. That Iblis Trigger was none other than Sonic the Hedgehog himself.
Except not. Turns out the guy with no mouth and snake eyes named after Mephistopheles wasn't all that trustworthy, and was using Silver for his own purposes. Undaunted, Silver continued to do a bunch of things that meant little-to-nothing, before finally defeating Iblis for definite because... he was stronger this time, I guess?
But Zoinks, Scoob! He couldn't seal Iblis away! Luckily and unluckily for him, Blaze was able to do so, and with a few emotional parting words, she vanished from Silver's time to get ready for a better game stop the threat of Iblis. That's not the end of Iblis' story however, because as it turns out, he's only part of something even more destructive... Also, Silver and Blaze didn't achieve anything anyway since Mephiles unleashed Iblis in the present time after killing Sonic.
Lol.
The Design: Get ready for a trilogy of fatigue.
You have Phase 1, which is just a clump of lava with some arms:
Tumblr media
Good at mix tapes though.
Phase 2 is a replica of his Iblis Worm minions, but bigger. That's it.
Tumblr media
Even he looks tired.
And for Phase 3, he finally realises he should probably try to look more worthy of a main baddie, but it still falls flat due to his ridiculous anchor feet:
Tumblr media
"~Lava bone's connected to the fire bone~"
On the whole? Wank.
The Execution: He's from Sonic '06. What do you think?
Outside of being a lame version of Chaos, what else is there to say?
Crusher Gives Iblis a: Thumbs Down!
------
MONSTER #3: SOLARIS
Tumblr media
The Gist: Remember Iblis? The guy I just talked about? Well he wasn't brought into existence as Iblis, but rather Solaris, the flame of hope. A time-dwelling entity of sorts, the kingdom of Soleanna had worshipped him for as long as they've lived, for reasons that can best be described as "fuck knows". In particular, Soleanna's ruler, the Duke, was devoted to harnessing the power of Solaris for the sake of being able to control time itself, and thus bring his wife back from the dead.
Sure enough, he joined her once more... by ironically getting himself killed in an accident during one of his experiments on Solaris, which also happened to split the entity into two different beings: the raw power named Iblis, and the subconscious named Mephiles the Dark. Before he died however, the Duke made the brave and heroic sacrifice of sealing Iblis - the fiery demon of death - within his own daughter, with the added deal of her never being able to cry unless that demon gets free, because who cares, she was adopted anyway.
Tumblr media
She's guaranteed to be a strong queen if she can withstand a lifetime's worth of severe heartburn.
Anyway, the Duke got a Game Over, Silver the Hedgehog left a Chaos Emerald in his daughter's presence at the expense of the overall Sonic the Hedgehog continuity, and that was that. Ten years later, Sonic and Eggman had a tussle in Soleanna that I'm not even going to bother talking about because it's that unimportant, and eventually the aforementioned Mephiles gives Sonic a Game Over, causing Princess Elise to cry and thus release Iblis. Mephiles, the shadowy hedgehog, then uses the Chaos Emeralds to rejoin with Iblis, the fire lizard, to become Solaris, the bird made of light... Okay then.
Solaris threatens to consume all of time and space, but before he can do that, his decision to throw the Chaos Emeralds away like disused wrappers comes back to bite him in the ass, because through his friends' wise decision to collect them all, Sonic is brought back to life, and in his super form at that. Together, with Super Shadow and Super Silver, they kick Solaris' shit in, until it reverts to its original form of a tiny flame, and after some hesitance born from the sorrow of losing her biggest friendship, Elise ultimately makes the right decision and blows out the flame, thus creating a new future where Solaris - and the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 in general - never happened.
Does that mean the Duke is alive? What does Soleanna worship now that Solaris never existed? Who knows, who cares, I'm already getting bored talking about these guys.
The Design: Unlike with Iblis, I actually like Solaris' forms, since there's an attempt to give them some elegance rather than just making them generically ugly. Even if Phase 1 looks as though he's got a steering wheel on his back...
Tumblr media
Literally at the helm.
And Phase 2 looks like it could be desecrated by the Dark Lord Ganondorf at any moment...
Tumblr media
"Who wants a hug?"
But overall? I like them.
The Execution: It's still '06, so his chances aren't looking good. I WOULD give Solaris some leeway since like with the Biolizard, I like his designs and his music (though I'm that weird guy who prefers Phase 1's music)...
Buuuuuut he's still the endgame of an absolutely shitty and plothole-infested narrative. And he's technically Mephiles, so...
Crusher Gives Solaris a: Thumbs Down!
------
MONSTER #4: IFRIT
Tumblr media
The Gist: Iblis got its own ripoff.
That ripoff's name was Ifrit.
It was in Sonic Rivals 2.
Eggman Nega sought to unleash it.
And it liked to feed on Chao, allegedly.
......
So anyway, how's your sex life?
The Design: Despite being the younger sibling, it's design is arguably better than that of Iblis. It's still nothing amazing mind you, but it's got a Firebird thing going on, so that alone makes it more pleasing to look at than any of Iblis' forms. And if it were in a fully 3D game rather than on the PSP, it would probably look a lot better with its visuals too.
Tumblr media
Ifrit wants a belly rub!
The Execution: He shows up at the end to get killed.
Next.
Crusher Gives Ifrit a: Thumbs Down!
------
MONSTER #5: DARK GAIA
Tumblr media
The Gist: One day, Dr. Eggman decided to have yet another go at controlling a giant monster. This resulted in the events of Sonic Unleashed, which started off with a bang when after a spectacle of action and destruction in the far reaches of space, Sonic was lured into a devilish trap by the wicked scientist. Using the negative energies of the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman fired a laser that literally broke the planet apart, in an attempt to unleash (HA!) the being sleeping within the planet's core: Dark Gaia.
Those negative energies also turned Sonic into a bizarre werewolf-hedgehog hybrid, which wasn't intentional on Eggman's part, but he dealt with him easily by letting him fall all the way down to the planet... along with the sapped Chaos Emeralds. Oops.
With the help of a strange little guy with amnesia named Chip, Sonic and his new alter-ego - the Werehog - went on a grand day out to find the Gaia Temples around the world, with the idea being to restore the Emeralds' energy one by one. All the while, Dark Gaia kept... existing, and Eggman tried to stop them. Eventually, it's revealed that Chip, bog standard comic relief that he is, was in fact Light Gaia all along, the fated nemesis of Dark Gaia. After all, you can't have dark without light, just as you can't have light without dark.
Tumblr media
"I wish I knew how to quit you... and this boss fight."
Same song and dance from then on. Dark Gaia pops up, Sonic and Chip beat it, Gaia gets angry and transforms, then they beat it again with Super Sonic. Chip says goodbye as he prepares to sleep for nearly an eternity to keep Dark Gaia at bay, which could be seen as a metaphor for how I'm close to falling asleep for eternity due to how genuinely exhausting it is to talk about these non-characters.
The Design: I really do not like Dark Gaia's design. Outside of the purple tentacles, which are admittedly pretty cool, he's just a stick with eyes and teeth. That's all he is.
Tumblr media
Nice nail polish, prick.
And when he becomes Perfect Ultra Mega Dark Gaia 2: The Return of Jafar, what does he transform into? ...A stick with MORE eyes and teeth.
Tumblr media
"I'm never drinking Chaos Cola again, Chip."
So yeah. His design is boring. And he could do with eating more.
The Execution: Dark Gaia is at least set up from the beginning rather than showing up haphazardly towards the end, but that's about all the praise I can give it. Despite everything to do with Chip, the Gaia Temples, and the Gaia Manuscripts, there's still not nearly enough to make Dark Gaia truly stand out. It's the personification of the world's darkness, and it's involved in a cycle with Light Gaia... what else? What else is there for me to care about?
Also, its boss fight was the worst, and coming after the Egg Dragoon, it was like a slap in the face. Say what you will about the guy below, at least you can deal with him quickly.
Crusher Gives Dark Gaia a: Thumbs Down!
------
MONSTER #6: TIME EATER
Tumblr media
The Gist: Young Sonic was on his merry way, then a time monster showed up to cause trouble... in time. Young Sonic was thus forced to team up with Older Sonic to combat this threat.
So they did.
......
At least Eggman was in control this time. Or Eggmen, rather.
Tumblr media
"Did I ever tell you the time I wrote about how Sonic the Hedgehog had it pretty rough lately...?"
The Design: Not too bad, actually. Sure, it looks like a stereotypical ghost at first...
Tumblr media
"WHAZAAAAAAAAPPPP"
...But once it's revealed to be mechanized by the Eggmen, we see its true, clockwork-esque form:
Tumblr media
Might want to get those boils checked, buddy.
As a robotic Frankenstein abomination, I really like its time aesthetic, and its twitching and whirring, as if it's trying in vain to fight back against the Eggmen's control. Like the Biolizard, the context allows it to be a bit hideous, and it still looks cool despite that.
The Execution: Am I going to give the Time Eater a complete free pass just because it's the one that Eggman successfully controlled? No. I will freely admit that there was not enough to establish it in a way that felt satisfying, and some would say to a worse extent than Solaris or Dark Gaia.
But here's the thing: I'm more willing to let these things slide if the game isn't forcing me to try and care about it. Or to put it in another way, the plot of Sonic Generations may very much be an excuse plot in its purest form, and that will always be a shame, but that's actually why I don't mind this as much. Generations isn't pretending that the Time Eater is anything more than what it is. It's not hyping it up without being able to back its "lore" up. It's nothing more than the justification for why we're having this adventure. And since Eggman is the real baddie pulling the strings anyway, I look at Time Eater as a plot device used by Eggman, than as an actual entity of its own.
Note that I'm not saying this is ideal. I'd have loved it if Generations had more of a story, and I'd have loved it if Time Eater had more lore behind it to back it up. But I'm explaining why I'm not so harsh on it as I am with Dark Gaia or Iblis, who their respective plots tried so hard to make me care about as big bad threats, only for it to fail miserably due to how mind-numbingly boring they are. It's a lesser of two evils situation, and I'm just giving my stance on it.
Plus, again, I actually like Time Eater's design. And Eggman did succeed with it...
Crusher Gives Time Eater a: Thumbs Sideways!
------
So that’s it then. That’s your lot for today. Some of them are okay, most of them are crap, none of them are as good as Chaos. I apologise if this edition of Sweet or Shite felt a bit rushed or shoddy, but in my defense, it's hard to say much for these guys, and I try not to be too repetitive.
......
Here’s a Shadow for you.

Tom vs. The Underworld
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9  | Chapter 10
6. Time Bomb
Break the bonds, tear the fabric, cleave the stones, stop the magic…
… Break the bonds, tear the fabric, cleave the stones, stop the magic…
…. Break the bonds... Tear the fabric... Cleave the stones... STOP THE MAGIC!
As the former queens of Mewni gave their final chant, all of the dark magic that had been festering in the Realm of Magic began to negate into sludge. Being their only option, Star and her family finally made a decision in order to set things right and save the lives of all monsters and mewmans. Destroying all magic from being accessed by others, despite if their intentions were good or not, was the only option they had left given the time they could work with.
However, a core element fighting to survive its approaching death rushed away from the group of spell-casters that were now moving towards an exit well from the realm. This particle, the last remaining piece of dark magic, had fed long enough on the devious emotions of its demon host that it craved that power once more. It sought out an escape from the destruction. Anywhere at this point. As long as it can infect another host and thrive again. It couldn’t perish just yet.
The thunder roared as the dark magic speck darted away from the final spell’s effect in a direction that felt like it needed to head towards—almost as if it were being pulled. But soon it was cornered by a crystallized rock formation in the once-enchanted ocean where the water was cascading upward toward a portal. With this being its last resort, the fragmented darkness that was determined to survive retreated up the opposite-flowing waterfall just in time before it collapsed with the realm.
A familiar blue figure hung above the spectacle and bore the only witness to the successful evasion of the evil-induced entity.
“It seems that something interesting is about to happen... It’s a shame I won’t be able to observe any of it. But I am overdue for a long nap…” Glossaryck lamented as he gave a yawn and faded out of existence...
“Goodluck, kid…”
The Crystal Dimension was going through an extreme alteration due to the instability of magic. And because the user whose powers kept those locked away within the dimension no longer existed either, the universe was in for an unpleasant surprise.
The crystals created by Rhombulus began to melt away like popsicles in the scorching heat.
“Gyaaaagh!” A jelly monster with three eyes gasped for air while huddling over the disintegrating crystal.
“Ahahahaha! I’m free! Yes, yes, yes!” A female monster dressed up in a wacky astronaut costume chortled as she jumped away from her once-imprisoned spot.
“Ussss too, usss too!” A two-headed snake creature hissed beside her unanimously.
A large three-eyed reptilian monster came forward and grumbled, “Hmmhmmm, buuuuttt whyyyyy, yo?’
“Who cares! Now I, Zedlord, destroyer of planets, shall finally continue my quest to take over the galaxy!” A rather brash male monster dressed in black armor bellowed as he barged his way into the group.
“Planets? Didn’t you only blow up one planet?” a flying bat creature scoffed snarkily.
“Uh, n-no!” Zedlord stammered.
“And wasn’t that by accident too?” The bat creature mentioned.
“Quiet, you!” Zedlord shoved the creature away from him.
As the newly-freed criminals began to bicker amongst themselves, a portal from the Realm of Magic opened up nearby and out came the last known existence of dark magic. Now that it was separated from the realm, it didn’t have much time. It was left weakened from its travel into the other dimension and from the depletion of all other magic. It would surely die out if it couldn’t infect a host within the next few seconds. But which one to choose?
“I’ll fight you, I’ll fight all of you to prove how bad I am, come on!” Zedlord challenged.
“Nah, no time fer yer puny monstah.” A sizable monster with one eye and one horn blew him off.
“Come here, I’ll show you puny!” Zedlord tried to rush at the monster but his opponent held him back effortless with one hand while answering him with a yawn. “What?! Scared?! Come on!”
The group of bad monsters all began to exchange an assortment of teases, boasts, and arguments back and forth with each other.
The dark magic was ashamed of its options but it was also desperate. It would just have to settle with either one of them or its existence would be over.
“Well, hello there, aren’t you rather… familiar….” A sly voice came from behind the dark matter. Although small, his aura was immense with a sinister vibe about him.
A spike in cruel intentions came from the shadowed figure the mass was now focused on. It was the same force that led it to that portal and brought it here as if for some kind of maniacal destiny. That was the one it needed, the one meant for it!
The dark magic rushed toward the figure but was halted by his raised hand.
“I’m sorry… Have you forgotten?” The formidable figure smirked as the mass began to scatter into particles, “You’ve always belonged to me, you were just taken away. But it seems things have changed in the universe to bring us together again… Now return to me!”
The dark magic now shot into the figure and a great red light filled the entire area in a flash.
“What was that?” The group of monsters wondered aloud now distracted from their quarreling.
“It came from behind that rock!”
“Mighty Zedlord, go take a look.” the female monster from early told him.
“Hey, don’t boss me around!” Zedlord fumed.
“Quit wasting time and look.” The two-headed snake demanded.
“Argh, who cares about some wimpy light, I’ll blast that area to bits and show you all my power!” Zedlord shouted as he brought up his cannon arm.
“That won’t be necessary.” The shadowed figure announced as he appeared from behind the rocky wall.
A miniature red being floated into the scene. He wore a purple robe and his beard and eyebrows were long, thin black slits. He had a very all-knowing look painted across his face and kept his legs folded beneath him as if sitting criss cross on the floor even though he levitated before them.
“Who are you and how’d you get here!” Zedlord blurted out.
“Obviously a captive like the rest of us, genius.” The bat creature jeered as he rolled his eyes.
“Quiet, Batty!”
“The names not ‘Batty’, it’s Martin.” The bat creature corrected.
“Seriously?”
“Ahem.” The red being cleared his throat in order to gain the attention of the group again. He then swirled into the air above his audience and said, “My name is Appendixon. I’ve existed for a lengthy amount of time, being the first to be imprisoned here in fact. And I’m going to use you all as my soldiers in my plan for revenge.”
The group was silent for a moment but then busted out laughing. Not the response Appendixon warranted.
“And why should any of us follow you!” Zedlord snickered, jabbing his finger in the red being’s direction. “You’re nothing more than a red, puny—“
“Careful with what you say next...” Appendixon admonished as his diamond-shaped eyes of emerald green peered at Zedlord brightly. “It may be your last words for I don’t need every single one of you.” That cruel intention from earlier began to flow from the suspicious red being and intimidated his insubordinate approacher.
A huge shadow suddenly wriggled away from the small figure and loomed over the entire group of criminals. With it came the dark emotions and substantial strength of the magic now within. They began to cower.
“Sorry if I miscommunicated, I wasn’t giving any of you a choice. Either follow, or die here.” Appendixon threatened with a glare.
“Y-yes, sir…” Zedlord piped up and bowed before the red being. The group of monsters did the same without hesitation.
“Stellar!” Appendixon changed his tone to a more jovial one and looked delighted with their obedience.
“Now then…” He brought up his hands as his eyes lit up. A rift began to static into creation and a black portal ripped open, large enough for all of them.  “I have some unfinished business on Mewni that I’ve been itching to take care of for a few centuries. Shall we begin?”
The horde of the universe’s most evil beings agreed with a cheer for their new leader’s budding plan.
“Hey, can I get a ride with you guys?” A small, light-blue furry monster approached the departing group from a wall he was recently hiding behind. “I’ve been stuck here for so long and all I came here for was to deliver pizza!” He was holding his violet ball cap and appeared to be pleading to them.
Appendixon’s followers looked to him for an answer.
“Ugh, sure…” Appendixon shrugged. “Just because I love pizza. That sounds good right now actually...”
First pizza, then conquest.

PotC Liveblog: Curse of the Black Pearl
CotBP is one of my ‘forever films’ for sure - every time I rewatch it I not only feel the same sense of wonder and delight as the first time but invariably discover new things to love and squee over as well.
I would love to learn more about Elizabeth as a child: this lonely, solemn girl who feels something perverse in her thrill at pirate stories and gallows humor, yet who gravely takes on the duty of looking after young William Turner because she wants to be good, too. (@dollsome-does-tumblr‘s Elizabeth-centric, post-CotBP fic Shrouded Heart explores this ambivalence in her self-concept with heart-wrenching emotional realism)
Wow, Will was doomed from the start, wasn’t he? I would be too if I were a 12-year old piece of half-drowned human driftwood waking up to a miniature guardian angel who softly murmurs, “I’m watching over you” before I drift back into unconsciousness
Framing Elizabeth’s memory of seeing the Black Pearl and meeting Will as a dream, one that impels her to put on the medallion, suggests fate or some other supernatural influence at work - a nifty way for writers to sidestep accusations of Contrived Coincidences and call it Destiny instead!
Keira Knightley is so beautiful hELP
Awww, Will is so proud of his handiwork! It’s interesting because the film puts a fair amount of emphasis on it early on, his skill and pride in not just wielding swords but forging them - only to tell us later that he’s really a pirate by blood and at heart. I like it when fics like fried_flamingo & salr323′s At World’s End: Redux lean into Will’s identity as a blacksmith and extrapolate from it an affinity for land/earth/balance/creation as opposed to the sea’s wild potential for destruction. (He lost his father to the sea and to piracy; he never learned to love either.)
My god everyone’s layered in buttoned-up and corseted finery in the fucking TROPICS no wonder Elizabeth passed out (ngl despite the ‘Caribbean’ in the title and visiting the Disney ride in New Orleans Square, I remember stupidly assuming Port Royal was part of England, not Jamaica; at 9 yrs old my geography was shit and I had yet to learn what imperialism was ok)
“A ship with black sails that’s crewed by the damned and captained by a man so evil that hell itself spat him back out.”  shiver me timbers now that’s how you tell a ghost story
“If he were telling the truth, he wouldn’t have told us” has the same antimonious energy as Winnie-the-Pooh going, “Well, it’s a good thing I noticed it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have seen it”
This is definitely tmi but in retrospect the rescue scene played a formative part in my (bi)sexual awakening: for a long time my go-to pubescent fantasies involved near-drownings followed by hypersexualized resuscitation attempts and frantic uncomfortable sex on wet rocks in damp subterranean caves
Omg I just realized Elizabeth’s scene with Jack on the docks mirrors the one she had on deck Will in the flashback: a (wo)man overboard recovered, rescuer hovering over a supine body and fingering the pirate medallion around his/her neck, love at first sight
“One good deed is not enough to redeem a man of a lifetime of wickedness.” “Though it seems enough to condemn him.” Basically “no good deed goes unpunished” but with style
16 years later and the swordfight between Jack and Will holds up as an iconic example of swashbuckling fight choreo. I also love how the exchange establishes the Jack/Will dynamic: the former as a kind of ironic mentor (“Excellent form. But how’s your footwork?”), the latter as an unwilling pupil who nevertheless mostly plays along
“I practice with them three hours a day.” “You need to find yourself a girl, mate.” Raunchy Shakespearean-grade comedy at its finest (along with  “This sweet, proliferous bouquet that is Tortuga…What do you think?” “It’ll linger.”)
“This shot is not meant for you.” I love the hints we get of Jack’s darker side: he keeps his bitterness close and his grudges closer; for 10 years he saved that bullet for one man, refusing to expend it in any number of life-threatening situations in the interim; he drawls, “Worry about your own fortunes, gentlemen. The deepest circle of Hell is reserved for betrayers and mutineers,” like a witch uttering a curse. A dishonest man, methinks, would not feel the stab of betrayal so deeply.
The running joke of Will not getting recognized for his skills and earnest efforts is what makes Norrington’s parting words to him at the end so satisfying: “This is a beautiful sword. I would expect the man who made it to show the same care and devotion in every aspect of his life.” (NORRINGTON KNEW IT WAS HIM ALONG BUT WAS TOO JEALOUS TO EVER PRAISE HIM TO HIS FACE that petty little shit lmao)
I remember looking up the definition of ‘acquiesce’ after watching CotBP as a kid, so Barbossa had a direct hand in expanding my 9-year old vocabulary.
Competent, hyper-focused!Jack at the wheel with an unholy gleam in his eye as he gets drenched in a torrential downpour is my kind of Byronic hero
I prefer Jack Sparrow’s backstory to remain a loose collection of rumors and half-truths jumbled together even in his own memory, but I DO want to know how Jack and Gibbs met, how the former earned the latter’s (mostly) steadfast loyalty. I want to eavesdrop on all the inebriated conversational musings they’ve shared over a bottle of rum, whether topside on the decks of a ship not the Pearl or shouted above/muttered below the ruckus of a Tortuga tavern.
I’d also read/watch a prequel about the mutiny. “He plays things closer to the vest now. And a hard-learned lesson it was.” WHO HURT YOU JACK
Well obviously Barbossa did, but I still have so many questions! How did a younger, more trusting Jack earn the ire of his first mate and crew, to the point where they’d stage a mutiny? Then again, to hear Gibbs tell it, Barbossa simply appealed to Jack’s sense of fairness; perhaps in their unadulterated greed they saw Jack’s honest streak as a vulnerability to exploit? Or was it something in Jack’s manner of captaincy that fomented discontent? Idk, I can’t tell based on the way the crew jeers at “Gents, you all remember Captain Jack Sparrow?” whether their antipathy smacks more of derision or vitriol.
“Mr. Gibbs? …Jack? Jack Sparrow?” Elizabeth must be SO confused by these blasts from her distant and more recent past: who knows when Gibbs left Norrington’s employ, but the last time she saw Jack he had her in chains and at gunpoint, and now apparently he’s conspiring with Will??
I’ve always been kind of baffled by the cabin scene between Elizabeth and Will. What is she apologizing for? Taking the medallion and not telling him? Or for telling him and making him realize his father was a pirate?
Also her tearful, “Because I was afraid that you were a pirate. That would have been awful” is the biggest, bald-faced lie if I’ve ever heard one. She took an interest in him BECAUSE she thought he was a pirate (although I do think young Elizabeth had been afraid FOR him, after Gibbs’ pantomime of the hangman’s noose)
“daft like Jack” should be my Jack/Elizabeth/Will OT3 tag
Ah, back when PotC incorporated visual gags to spice up their action sequences instead of building the equivalent of a Rube-Goldberg machine around a single, unfunny gag. Compare: Gibbs’ canteen making its unlikely way from the Interceptor to the Pearl and back as an accompaniment to the battle and Jack’s breakout from his cell VS the overextended Tortuga sequence in DMC where Jack weaves in and out of a brawl to no apparent purpose except to try on different hats and then exit the tavern.
“Though it does seem a shame to lose something so fine, don’t it? …So I’ll be having that dress back before you go.” Barbossa is despicable and Geoffrey Rush delivers his lines with such RELISH
I will squee over the island scene & its deleted segments at length in a separate post so for now I’ll just say: Elizabeth is obviously a huge Jack Sparrow stan and she’s doing a piss-poor job of hiding it
Listen it’s easy to overlook Norrington’s sense of duty and decency in the face of the stick up his butt and his bouts of extreme pettiness. But the fact is that Jack’s attempt to manipulate and appeal to his ambition fails. Because the Commodore is no Barbossa - he’s a fine man who serves others, not only himself; who cares whether a woman’s acceptance of his proposal is less than sincere; who wouldn’t have risked his men ambushing the Pearl’s crew had he known about the curse (last two courtesy of the deleted scenes on the Dauntless).
Now that I’m paying closer attention I’m just blown away by the careful consideration in Jack’s plans. He’s playing both sides to further his own goal of enacting revenge at minimal risk to himself, but he looks after the unwitting parties he involves in the process, too: while the Royal Navy occupies the undead pirates from the safety of their long range cannons, Jack can intervene to save Will, use him to break the curse, and kill Barbossa. All the good guys win! (He couldn’t have foreseen the Trojan Horse or the en masse submarine attack; nor Norrington’s pettiness in defying Jack’s instructions to man cannons that would’ve blown the undead into smithereens.)
Exhibit B: “Now, to be quite honest with you, there’s still a slight risk for those aboard the Dauntless, which includes the future Mrs. Commodore.” Disregard his insouciant delivery here, and you get Jack telling the whole, unvarnished truth!!! “What do you have to lose?” he asks Norrington, who brushes him off: “Nothing I’d lament being rid of.” It’s JACK who reminds him that for all their precautions, the ambush might put Elizabeth in danger. Jack knows about the curse, and after being marooned on an island with her, he knows Elizabeth will do whatever’s necessary to save Will. So he finds a way to ensure not only that she won’t interfere, but that she’ll be kept safe from harm!! I’ll never be over it
And Murtogg’s “You think he wasn’t telling the truth?” line is such a great callback to their early sketch as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern on the docks of Port Royal. These dimwits happen to know Jack does tell the truth, expecting no one to believe him. His own exhortations on the subject notwithstanding, Jack’s real trickery lies in rarely telling the whole truth, letting people make their own assumptions, and giving them enough rope by which to hang themselves.
Governor Swann is such a darling, the ultimate doting father. It’s easy to assume he doesn’t get Elizabeth at all, but he’s no idiot. He rightly suspects she only agreed to marry Norrington to save Will, and while he’s not above nudging her in that direction (“I believe you made a very good decision today. Couldn’t be more proud of you.”), he’s also not about to let his only daughter bargain away her happiness for the sake of his OTP. (And his face of exasperated affection at Jack’s hanging, when he realizes she only pretended to faint as a diversion! Notice the lack of surprise in his expression: that’s the face of a father who is all too used to her Pulling This Kind of Shit)
Jack keeps popping up like a bad penny and both Norrington and Barbossa are so appalled every time lol
The sequence where Will breaks the curse and Jack shoots Barbossa and Elizabeth jerks like she’s the one who was shot is just - *chef’s kiss* the CHOREOGRAPHY! the CAMERAWORK! the EDITING!
“I feel…cold.” *a single apple rolls out of Barbossa’s dead hands* Can you believe a summer blockbuster movie invented poetic justice tell your English professors
“If all I have achieved here is that the hangman will earn two pairs of boots instead of one, so be it.” Ugh Will is sooo not my type but he’s so DASHING and GOOD no wonder Elizabeth covets him. What a hero
“My place is between you and Jack.” Ohhh you know what I would love to track the main characters’ alignment arcs throughout the series. Here Will’s situating himself as the Chaotic Good between Jack’s Chaotic Neutral and Norrington’s Lawful Good. But I would argue he’s still pretty Lawful and, even under Jack’s tutelage, only resorts to Chaos in extremis; meanwhile Jack flits between Chaotic Good and Chaotic Neutral; Elizabeth’s arc is similar except it’s unidirectional; and without the Law at his back Norrington spirals into Neutral Evil.
It’s the Sparrabeth shipper in me but the last line of the movie is Jack singing a song that Elizabeth taught him. (*Cutler Beckett voice* “We’ve had dealings in the past. And we’ve each left our mark on the other.”) For a fic about what Jack leaves her, may I redirect you to Shrouded Heart by dollsome, linked above - and this brain dump comes full circle!
