*puts hand up* sorry I’m very new here what’s the context with what’s happening with the tag war??
Alright, I will give my run down, but I will not be naming any blog names on either side even if I have the info and the action was net positive. I just like to use my blog to scroll and reblog for the most part and refuse to embroil myself in the drama more than just giving my view on it as a bystander. One that definitely has an opinion on the events, but also as someone who would rather curate my own experience than fight.
So all this fighting that is going on, it used to just happen in the normal "Jiang Cheng" tag because back then there was no "canon Jiang Cheng" tag; it had not been created yet. (By that I mean it was not a tag used as a tag, Tumblr's shitty search algorithm might still show posts if one typed it in to the search bar because those posts had the words 'canon', 'Jiang', and 'Cheng' in the tags separately, but there would not be posts with "#canon Jiang Cheng" because nobody normally creates a post with a tag like that when "#Jiang Cheng" was suffice. Sometimes I see irrelevant posts in the canon Jiang Cheng tag, but the actual tag isn't on the post, the tags just happen to have all three words in them. Those I ignore because that is Tumblr's fault, not the poster.)
The fighting was between people that like the character and prefer to see the good in him and the interpretation of his character, and those that may or may not like the character (just because you like a character does not mean you need to defend their every action after all) but do not share that opinion of his character and have a more neutral or negative portrayal by contrast. The former also tended to favor or have only read the novel as it is the source material for all other adaptations.
Now things really came to a head when hate and threats were being thrown about on posts that were just quotes from the book showing the negative actions of Jiang Cheng. The people posting the quotes were basically told "if you hate the character why don't you just tag the post as anti-JC?!" but is it really right to call those anti posts when they were posting how the character acts in the source material? That is the character. That is how he acted. Look it is in the book! The character really did that! It is not somebody's negative headcanon that the character may act like that, it is something the character actually did. Personally I can not consider that as an anti character post, and neither did the people who made posts like that.
But things did get heated enough that some people finally took a step back and said "Fine. You want us to make our own space to make these posts so that you do not have to see us talk about JC this way? We will. It will be #canon Jiang Cheng and you can block it if you don't want to see the posts." Was the name picked in the spirit of schadenfreude? Very probable, but it is also not an incorrect name as the people who wanted to use it base their opinion on the novel. But the point was that the tag was created so that people now had their own space to make the posts they wanted and those that did not want to see it could block the tag. Curate your own experience; we can block tags on this site for a reason and advertising tags to block is a courtesy. (Because as said previously, the search here sucks, because the posts contain the character's name they are still likely to show up in the main tag, but block the newly created tag and you will not see those posts either way). Could the other people come into the tag in good faith and make arguments with textual support? Yeah, that was welcomed, but in the spirit of debate they should expect rebuttal. Was that what happened? No.
No instead what happened was basically this meme
They did not like the name chosen for the tag. They read the novel too and still believe that JC is good, so they should be able to use the tag too! Never mind the fact that the tag was made so they could block the posts they didn't want to see. So that they can go on with their days no longer having to deal with the people they constantly fought with. No. Instead of curating the experience of this website, they would get so hung up on the fact that there was now a tag called #canon Jiang Cheng in use that they had to use it too to defend JC from the people that post 'negative' things about him; even if it is novel text!
So while the fighting didn't stop, it did get slightly better because not everyone felt the need to jump into the new tag to defend their fave. Some people actually did curate their experience. Plus there is a block button and people do use it, so things got to a point where I would say it was relatively stable even if there was still fights here and there. (But once again I lurk, I do not participate. Things may not have been the same for more outspoken people).
But then a certain muskrat bought Twitter and a chunk of the fandom there fled here. That's when the main push to "reclaim the tag" and the new influx of people hopping into the tag to argue and defend their fave appeared. These people did not know why the tag was made, they just saw blogs that they liked telling people about the "JC-antis" that made it and how with the new people pouring into the Tumblr fandom from twitter, they had a chance to flood it and reclaim it. And since then the fighting has not really stopped.
As for what has happened in the past few days, you have JC defenders flooding the tag with fan art (not canon), screen caps from CLQ (not canon), and screenshots of a sentence or two from the novel (canon, but usually out of context or lacking additional lines that go on to rebut what was previously said) in the tag and the people who made the tag for a specific purpose getting mad about the spam. (I block so I have no clue how big the influx was or whatever but there was definitely like at least 3 new people I had to block). So when they made posts venting the anger, you got JC defenders coming back to them and going "But I never sent any hate or harassment! I just used the tag to talk about the canon character!" And perhaps they didn't, but these people in their defense always ignore and never respond to the question of why they are in the tag instead of blocking it because that is what the tag was made for. Instead they come back with "Well if you want to talk about JC that way, why don't you post in the anti tag or make your own tag!"... Remember that meme picture I used above. Yup.
The tag war began because people did not like negative posts about JC in the main character tag for JC. When told to use the anti tag or make a new tag, a new tag was made, but instead of curating the experience the stans of JC got so tilted at the name of the tag that they decided that they would come into the tag and continue the fight instead of just blocking it. Twitter fallout made the fighting worse. And now we have come full circle to the JC stans once again telling people to just use the anti tag or make their own tag.
#canon jiang cheng#canon jc#this is my interpretation of the events I saw happen#Humans in a group suck there will always be some bad faith actors on both sides#but being one of the good ones by not personally sending hate does not absolve you from your actions#especially when you are invading a space that was not made for you that you were told to block#personally I laugh at the irony that the stans embody the negative traits of their fave by doing so#they take the same type of actions they excuse and try to use similar arguments to excuse their actions#exactly as i said at the end of my last post#if you come in actual good faith and understand the point of the tag i welcome you#I like the tag because it made it easier to find posts made by people who view JC the same as I do#I only read the novel#But yeah play stupid games win stupid prizes if you tell people to make their own tag dont get mad at the name and just block it

i just wrote out this whole long thing about absolution, and after that, went on r/southernreach, realized a lot of things i had criticism of are probably intentional in ways I had not considered before, re-wrote my thing, and am now sort of having a crisis because i don't............. really care................. about all the red-stringing........................ or like i DO care, but i don't WANT to................ leave me alone (i chose to open the reddit tab)
#not an actual crisis tbc just like#the trilogy was a complete set of books. that is my main opinion.#ah i don't know i feel like i am living in a different reality from all those redditors (IRONY NOT LOST ON ME HERE IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW)#I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT BETTER SORRY. PROBABLY I REALLY REALLY NEED TO CLOSE THE TAB AND DO SOMETHING ELSE#txt#wait ok i absolutely activated some sort of scrupulosity/other ocd type demons by doing this. closing the tab.

idk if any of yall remember this project i posted abt it a while ago but im building a monochrome minecraft city and this is the latest addition
#it is EXACTLY one block taller than both wtc (pre 2001)#I had to do it#because the irony of an arab building style being taller than the symbol of america and the west is so funny to me#i say arab style its literally just the ziggurat type structure and to some extent the shape of the arches#this is a heavily modified version of one painting i saw a while ago of the tower of babel#because i had really liked what happened to the stairs so i took that and made it my own#and tbh? this is one kf the best towers in the entire citt#it may not be the tallest but i love it#it takes up two whole blocks the road had to go through the base#i also pushed the limits of worldedit cus i wanted to raise everything above the first platform up because i hadnt built it right#which was allegedly 6000+ blocks#minecraft#city#ziggurat#its 61 by 61 blocks at the base too#wouldve done 64 by 64 but 2 block centers are my enemy#tho i did just realise theres no main leading ramp like in the ziggurat of ur that was supposed to be in the building plans#guess i forgot

This is gonna sound kind of insane but if any of you have any technology in your workplace or home that is working sub-optimally get it fixed or replaced within the next four months just in case. I’ll explain a little.
So in order to make the silicone needed in processors they have to refine it from silicone dioxide also known as silica to get just the silicone out. Silicone dioxide is most abundant in a mineral called quartz. They’re basically one and the same except quartz is a rock and like most rocks it usually isn’t just made of one thing. Most quartz has inclusions or other contaminants in it from other minerals. If you grind up the average kind of quartz you’re not gonna get pure silica you’re gonna get some other stuff mixed in which makes it insanely difficult to get just the silicone out. Spruce Pine is special because it is the only source of the purest quartz ever found. It has almost no contaminants. There is no other known site on earth with quartz this pure. Having to source less pure quartz from other mines will take a long ass time and then an even longer ass time to refine it thoroughly enough to get just the silicone. Basically if our government doesn’t stop sending money to Israel for five seconds and go fix up this tiny Appalachian backwater quartz mine, the entire world is going to slow wayyyyyyyyy down.
That means new processors will become scarce. And considering the strain that cryptocurrency and now generative AI is putting on our electrical grids, we’re needing even more processors than usual.
So basically if we can’t get this mine fixed the world’s infrastructure is gonna collapse just a teeny bit and a lot of people are gonna lose access to water and electricity because a bunch of wealthy idiots are using it all for their fake money and stolen artwork.
Now you may be thinking that it’s not as big a deal as it sounds. Semi conductors aren’t in everything. Mostly just communication devices.
You’re wrong. This is a big fucking deal and we should all be terrified. Semiconductors are used in pretty much every communication device. This includes satellites not just your phones.
But the loss or slowing of communication isn’t the only scary thing.
This is an opportunity for permanent censorship of vulnerable communities
Right now the only reason we know what’s going on in the world is because we can all talk to each other instantly through this little rock in my hand. That plus satellites. If semi conductors become scarce the priority is going to be for governments and specifically militaries. If we can’t bomb children with drones connected to satellites then Uncle Sam will be very sad and we can’t have that now can we? Basically, the people most vulnerable to censorship will lose their ability to communicate because they will not have access to communication devices. That’s the long term consequence.
Now if the poor people can’t speak on the world stage then naturally some of the more privileged who will still have access to devices will become the voice for the voiceless. This is where the big scary future doom comes in.
The recent targeted attacks in Lebanon were all on communication devices. Pagers, phones, walkie talkies, and even car radios. Basically anything that had a processor. And we all know that the Middle East is where the West likes to test their new war crime toys. Now, if some of the privileged start speaking out, the wealthy elites and the governments of the world will have the capability to permanently silence those individuals.
I know I’m doomsday preaching again. I know I sound like a raving lunatic. I know I’m describing a dystopia that would make a very successful book trilogy and potentially a franchise, but I have yet to be wrong.
I may not be an expert on all this, I may be just a small voice on a very big platform, but I will scream doom from the mountain tops if that’s what it takes to save even one person. At the very least I’ll be able to say that I tried.
My final message is this; prep for the worst, hope for the best.
#silica#silicone#semiconductor#spruce pine#north carolina#appalachia#quartz#hurricane helene#israel#lebanon#i’m so tired#i’m so scared#please please please I am begging you if there is a higher power please stop with the existential irony#i can’t take it anymore#I feel like we’re living in some Truman Show type shit#this is the bad place#I want to live but not in this world

Half baked idea but something something noble with an ornate fan is talking to/in a meeting with Gortash. Maybe the fan was even a gift from Gortash to the noble.
Gortash wants to show them something else, probably as some kind of distraction. Noble doesn’t think much of Durge bc they’re always lingering but never speaking. Must be some kind of bodyguard or other employee. Hands Durge the fan while brushing them off in a ‘here, I’m better than you and you are here to serve your betters’ type way.
Gortash watches the disrespect his ally just received, gives Durge the slightest nod or maybe just a look only the two of them would understand the meaning behind.
Durge pulls out the wires or whatever is giving structure to the fan to kill the noble with that. Maybe they keep the pretty fabric of the fan as a memento or smth.
#is this type of thing creative enough for durge or am I not thinking big enough#the concept of using something so delicate and pretty in such a brutal way seems fitting though#durge does seem to love some irony with their killings#gortash#durgetash

I don’t know what I expected today, but I most definitely did not expect to be told, in Russian, that I deserve to die by strangulation bc I’m not “fulfilling my destiny” by choosing not to have kids.
#context this was on a YouTube comment directed at me out of idk how many similar comments#apparently being born with a uterus means your entire life’s purpose is to have children#was also called selfish for being child-free#the irony here is how much I love kids#I love my role as auntie and supporting those kids#I literally LOVED working with kids the most in all my time in health care#though I haven’t chosen a speciality I know I want to go into a specialty that allows me to work with kids at least some of the time#I may very well do rural FM and end up delivering a fair few babies#but nah since I’m not birthing them out of my own vagina I’m literally useless#was likely just an internet troll but they may also really believe what they’re saying#oh they also told me that my marriage / any partnership is pointless without kids#seems like they think the only differences bw married and just friends is money and sex#and ofc sex without reproduction is let fulfilling your destiny omfg#fun fact y’all a marriage type relationship can just be about support and connection that you want with only that one person!#ugh people suck

Also there is something genuinely sinister about the particular language of calling a show "anti-feminist" or "misogynistic" solely because...the favored M/F ship didn't end up together, lmao. As soon people start saying shit like "well ACTUALLY it would have been wayyy more progressive if [Main Female Character] ended up with [Main Male Character] but clearly the writers HATE women and think we can't have it all!" they've lost me entirely. You know you can be upset that your ship wasn't endgame and think it was terrible writing without making weird false assertions, right? "But TV writers are so anti-romance these days they never let the main male characters end up with main female characters anyone :( in trying to be feminist they've circled back around to being anti-feminist because [HetCis Ship] isn't kissing :( strong women kiss too!!" ...have you guys...turned on the television recently? ...can i recommend you some shows?...
#ANYWAY#lord#additionally its equally dumb when people are mad a ship DID happen (or that a non canon ship is popular)#because 'they never let anyone just be friends anymore'#once again. turn on your tvs please. im begging.#absorb and seek out different types of stories bc i don't think you're watching the right ones#yes this is about some t*db*ecca and r*yk*eley shippers#but the irony is. the show genuinely does feature some pretty terrible and problematic writing of women.#yet people want to call it out because a SHIP didn't happen instead of calling it out because of like. shandy.

i think when i read the picture of dorian grey i got way too into trying to understand and form a defensible argument for the philosophy in it because i was very much in my debate team reads the stanford encyclopedia of psychology for fun phase. i mean obviously hedonism is an interesting ideology and the book does talk about it a lot, but i think the prime appeal of the book and why it's a classic is not the philosophy whatsoever it's definitely the drama and the art discussion, and i was so caught up on keeping notes on hedonism that i kind of neglected to pay attention to the characters in the literal and not subtextual sense until the tail end of the novel.
#that being said i am not rereading it lmao#the writing style is very vivid and pretty and kind of... lush is the word i think#but it's also hard as fuck to get through especially because it also does that 1800s lit thing#where there's a few chapters of weird filler mostly describing various fancy things#that doesn't really connect to the rest of the text in the slightest at least not at that long length#when i started the count of monte cristo (need to finish that) the guy who recognized me reading it was like#yeah its a beautiful novel full of some fantastic drama & irony but there's a solid 200 pages of fancy object descriptions#and long lists of names and such#the one exception to this is probably Moby dick which i ALSO need to read in which the filler is very much intentional and necessary to read#it's just very interesting sometimes seeing the different ways that older novels can establish tone and lay out a plot#like the narrative structure is obviously going to be the same (exposition -> actions -> climax don't want to type all the terms out)#but dracula for example has three discinct tonal shifts while dorian grey does it slowly & subtly + uses a timeskip#not that modern novels don't do this lol but it's easier to discern and analyze because i'm not also interpreting older langauge#and weird Victorian publishing quirks like the shitty introduction (scarlet letter) and fancy object chapter

I was falling asleep because it's 4:30 in the morning but then a friend that I have a mild crush on texted me and asked what horror movies corresponds to which areas at camp, and clearly Climbing Wall is Vertigo, Aquatics is Jaws and Ecology-Conservation is The Birds, (these were her assignments) but she wanted to know whether Blair Witch fit Scoutcraft (basic scouting skills) or Handicraft (arts and crafts) more, and I said Handicraft because of the figurine things, then she asked what Scoutcraft would be, and full disclosure, I like horror movies but I don't watch a lot of them. I'm picky. Because I don't like gore or zombies and I have anxiety so it's difficult. Okay. So I literally Googled "outdoor horror movies" and tried to find one that I recognized, and thankfully Midsommar was on that list and I've seen and enjoyed Midsommar, so that's what I said. The only other horror movies I can remember seeing are Cabin in the Woods (masterpiece but doesn't fit) and one I can't remember the name of but it's about a video game and has Frankie Muniz and the guy that played Mary Lightly in Psych. And tbh, most of my horror movies knowledge comes from parody episodes of Psych. Especially the Hitchcock episode. I only knew Vertigo because of Psych. This post was a whole lot of inconsequential nonsense, but I get a pass because it's 4:30am and I'm talking to a cool girl.
#okay shes beautiful. one of the kindest people ive met#shes trans. she works at a summer camp. she knows horror movies. we became fast friends#shes so easy to talk to. we met over a one week long event and the rest of our friendship has been over text#its nice to have someone to talk to about horror movies at 4:30am (3:30am her time)#especially Midsommar because i really love that movie. im trhing to find a way to being up Cabin In The Woods#because its truly my fav horror movie and one of my fav movies period. its so good#'but austyn you said you dont like zombies or gore' stfu this movie is the exception#how can you see the travel mug bong. chris hemsworth die via atv over a ravine. the guy getting killed by a mermaid in beautiful irony#and not think that its the best movie ever written#i could talk about that movie for forever#i asked her fav horror movie and im going to watch whatever one she says#even if its gory and full of zombies. im gonna watch it. in my type of strange way of trying to connect#fuck she said the original texas chainsaw massacre. i feel like thats gonna be gory. but im a man of my word#shesaid she doesn't usually have the patience for movies or tv. truly a woman after my own heart#jk jk im really trying not to be weird i promise. but i dont usually have the attention span for movies or tv (especially movies) either#its almost 5am and i should be asleep but instead im not#now im really feeling some horror. i might make the next book i read horror again#if youve read this far and have any good horror book recommendations pls lmk#edit: i read the plot synopsis for texas chainsaw massacre and i cannot watch it. dear god.

the life lessons i gain from fucking D20
i just posted a LIFE-CHANGING QUOTE from mentopolis ep4 AP that i can't stop thinking about, and it's still wild to me that i'm learning so F U C K I N G much about life while outside of a religion than i never would have learned while inside of it.
i'm thinking about the "no lessons here" conversation specifically.
i honestly had never thought of this. my religion kept shoving meaning for everything i ever experienced in life down my throat so its been made a mental habit. my parents benefited from me believing that everything bad that happened can be improved by ME changing my behavior, rather than them fighting for me or teaching me how to deal with inevitable shitty circumstances that life throws at me. so i grew up thinking i had to make meaning out of literally everything that happened, and that it almost always meant that anything bad that happened was my fault.
and, turns out, that's also just human nature. we're so afraid of not surviving that we've benefited a little TOO hard from intellectualizing everything bad that happens to us, rather than accepting the chaos for what it is - pure chaos.
there i was, trying to enjoy a cute lil ttrpg talkback episode, just to STUMBLE into this GIGANTIC REVELATION. fuck. i'm ruined, for the better, and i didn't even have any warning about it.
but also - OF COURSE it would be. the reason i love d20 so much after leaving sikhi behind is because it's filling that gap in my heart of understanding the Truths of life and living. sikhs are conditioned to think that the founders and the saints are the only ones who can teach others about how to live well enough to achieve enlightenment. but instead, i'm finding it in vulnerable places full of mistakes and compassion for the self and others.
the further away i walk from sikhi, the closer i feel to the Truth of humanity. and what better place to find that Truth than in a well-told story, collectively made by those with such intimate understanding of the human spirit that they're able to re-create it in various flavors, characters that are not themselves yet show a different Truth.
but i also don't fill that spiritual gap by deifying the people who tell this Truth, as is the case in religion. and deifying people is what causes the disconnect farther down in history. the stories, however, remain True, without needing to pretend the storytellers are perfectionists.
(yes, i playfully simp over the d20 cast on this website, but i don't actually see them as saints to be deified the same way i used to with saints and the gurus in sikhi. these are my friends, compatriots in living and understanding, proudly imperfect. and i trust their pride in imperfection more than i trust deification.)
#yes i see the irony of finding meaning from a “no lessons here” conversation#im still getting used to the idea#my crisis of faith may be my most difficult life experience ever#im cutting myself some slack#while also using this space to type out my thoughts#cringe is dead#proudly imperfect#no lessons here#crisis of faith#sikhism#yes this is the first time im revealing the actual religion im silently leaving#closeted nonbeliever#nobody tell my parents#nobody tell my siblings#nobody tell my insulated group of sikh friends#god i hope they dont find this before i tell them myself#anyway thanks everyone for reading all these tags#dimension 20#dnd#d20#brennan lee mulligan#dungeons and dragons#love#worlds beyond number#mentopolis

And take your time with your playlists, no rush ! A dude knows what its like tryin to make it Just Right
