I never seen these two interact once, Even in fanart they barely are in the same art piece. I searched everywhere and only 3 fanfics of these two exist from 2013 and the last one being 2014. Maybe I didn’t look in good enough but like, I checked pinterest, here and pixiv (I’m pretty sure) and not a single art piece of them. Except one, ONE. It was comic of skywarp throwing some m&ms at perceptor and that’s it, Something everyone bothering perceptor. WTF, WHY IS THERE BARELY FANART OF THEM TOGETHER?? I know it’s because it’s some rarepair thing but most rarepair ships would still have at least fanart. There’s barely ships with skywarp, most being astrotrain and megatron, etc.. I’m pretty sure astrotrain and skywarp also barely interact so liek… IM CONFUSED. Or it’s because people like perceptor with yellow guy, Brainstorm i thinks. Did i miss something, Is everyone avoiding shipping them because something happens?? am I an idiot or something??? I can make my own fanfics and art but like, I can’t write a fanfic for shit. I can only do “Skywarp and perceptor kiss maybe idk” That’s it, That’s the whole fanfic for u. It ends there. I don’t mind ships of skywarp and perceptor being with others, I like the other ships but like why not skywarp and perceptor?? The only reason why i decided to ship these two because i was like a big fan of skywarp and perceptor, One day I think “What if skywarp and perceptor like each other” and I searched everywhere and nothing. I also thought it would be fun! you know the entire town is meddling and loves to gossip, lilith being the worst even if she swears she’s not invested at all. camila is obvious about it, getting to know every person who ever visits to try to set you up with the ones she deems “eligible,” which, at this point, you think just translates into someone you would find physically attractive — not narrowing it down much — who is “probably” (camila’s words) single. it’s a lost cause, you’re fairly certain, even though everyone insists it’ll happen one day.

you should know to bet against god, or love, or fate, or whatever, because it’s an average day just like the others when you meet ava. 

you had been reading a twitter thread the day before about how metaphors are relational only; they are rarepairs; they never fully tell the truth. it runs through your mind the first time you see her, laughing by shannon’s side, the snow just beginning to fall — you’ll think back on it years later and have no words or associations to really tell the whole truth of what you felt: like a door had opened in front of you that you had thought was a wall, or suddenly the grey light of the waning afternoon sounded a gentle purple, or planets and stars and the entire universe. there’s nothing but the truth of ava: her smile and her dark eyes and her cane getting caught in the fresh snow every time she takes a step, clearly annoying her but going unmentioned. her impractical puffer jacket, her red cheeks. you have never felt a pull like this before in your life, and it unsettles you.

theo barks at you, embarrassingly, after you’ve just been standing still, your world reorienting. she’s tired from working the sheep back from pasture to the barn before the storm, probably wanting water and a nap in your warm truck as you head home. you scratch behind her ears to soothe her and she shakes you off, still annoyed, which makes you laugh and follow as she trots along in front. 

you haven’t felt this young maybe ever, suddenly blanking on literally any words when theo goes up to shannon — and, so, ava — and you don’t even know her yet, have never heard her name yet, but she beams at you.

‘beatrice,’ shannon says, and all you can do is offer up a weird, awkward wave, which shannon lifts a brow at, her smile sharpening when she sees what must be a blush on your cold cheeks, ‘this is ava; ava, this is beatrice.’

you take off your leather work gloves before offering your hand to shake.

‘wow,’ ava says, ‘that was so chivalrous, i loved it.’ before you can even respond, she leans forward excitedly. ‘and who is this?’

‘this is theo.’ theo, for her part, waits patiently by your side as her tongue lolls out in a happy, tired smile, her little coat admittedly very cute. ‘you can say hi, if you want. she loves people.’

ava is delighted by this, and she crouches down and pets theo happily but considerately, not getting too excited or up in her space. ‘i know you said she loves people, but i’m feeling very special right now.’

you laugh. ‘she has that effect.’

ava eventually stands, and you kind of resent shannon for leaving at some point in the last thirty seconds while you were both distracted. ‘do you —‘

‘—where are you—‘

‘apologies,’ you say.

‘sorry,’ ava says.

you reach out and touch her hand gently, briefly, enough to send a shock of electricity — warm and new — through you. it’s starting to snow harder, and you had planned to beat the worst of it and settle in for the night. ‘did you drive here?’ you ask, forgoing your first desire to ask where are you visiting from? or how long will you be staying? or why are you here? 

ava laughs. ‘nah, mary gave me a ride. i was at the bar and she was telling me about this place; i do marketing and social media for an agency in the city and it sounded like the ranch could use some of my incredible expertise, maybe, for fundraising views. plus it sounded cute, so i wanted to see it and she offered. anyway —‘ she rambles and then takes a deep breath. ‘she didn’t say anything about you.’

you feel, mortifyingly, for a moment, like you might pass out, but you gather yourself. ‘oh, i, uh, i just volunteer here. with theo. we work stock. i don’t —‘ you clear your throat and ava looks on, grinning, ‘do you need a ride back to town?’

Six Sentence Sunday - More Bokumono Rarepairs Edition

So I have a lot of WIPs started for the Story that is the beginning, middle and eventual end (or is it???) of Jill/Trent. I reference them in my Trent/Carter fics as Trent's previous relationship that ended badly, which... is somewhat true. For Jill/Trent, I have two very distinct paths in mind - and one of them does end in a break-up, with Trent eventually ending up with Carter years later. But the fic I've been working on most recently is the jumping off point. Where it all starts, more or less. I'm having a lot of fun with this, because Jill (or, my take on her) is so entertaining to write. I mean, she's kind of awful, but that's what makes her so fun, lol.

“Oh, I’m not sure they’d all appreciate this town, and everything it has to offer, as much as I do. Most of them aren’t like you, Jill – as mindful of their health. Not without the proper guidance, at least.” “I’m what now?” Jill asked, as she clicked shut the lid of her bento box so she could open the attached second tier, with part two of her meal. “Oh… oh, right, because I’m always running around from dawn ‘til dusk.” Jill didn’t think of herself as fit, exactly, but she’d never had any issue with staying on her feet all day. Sure, she’d be tired by nightfall, but rarely was she ever exhausted. “But you still manage to get enough rest, from what I understand,” Trent said. “And as you told me yourself, you maintain a healthy diet.” Told you myself? Oh! Right! She had said that, the other week when she’d run into Trent at Hardy’s and stayed behind with him while Elli and Hardy went out to Romana’s villa. She couldn’t really recall the meat of their conversation, though; she’d still been a tad hungover from the night before, when she’d been out at the Blue Bar with Karen until midnight, and had honestly just swung by because a girl deserved some eye candy every now and then – and one thing must’ve led to another, and she’d just told him what he wanted to hear. Now, she kinda wondered how he would’ve reacted if she’d said she just ate whatever tasted good. He would’ve been ticked off, no doubt, and she’d yet to see him like that, though she guessed it was pretty hot.

i really like the idea of a rivals to lovers courtney x emma (rr) ship, logically i know their similarities would probably make it difficult to get along but idk i think it could work in a weird way. they’re both one of my favorite character archetypes (im a sucker for the type as) so i’d love to explore how they would interact. honestly i should write a fic for them

beth x sierra is another rarepair i like! they’re both seen as Weird Girls (derogatory) who get crushes easily and i think they could have a cute little thing going on.

i also like beth x katie (& sadie?), they all hung out during the aftermaths for tdwt, i could see it as a poly thing or as a similar dynamic to wayne & raj where katie is realizing she’s a lesbian and sadie is supporting her

this one actually has some basis in dramarama of all things, but harold x lightning. i thought it was really cute how tdr harold had a crush on lightning and i would love to play around with that dynamic within the main canon. ooo especially with the inclusion of transfem harold (bc lightning don’t judge!)

ella x sky! i think their ship name is ellsky? anyway they should’ve cut out the axis of the brief tdpi love triangle (dave) and just had ella think of sky as her knight and sky learning to relax a bit with ella

while i don’t really ship either of them with anyone, i do like the idea of zee x damien. i think zee’s chillness could help balance out damien when he’s a little more high strung, and damien could help ground zee. after all, zee was damien’s biggest supporter to help get himself voted off! i also headcanon damien as a trans guy and zee as nonbinary so t4t couple rights lol. ngl every time i see someone shipping zee with chase or ripper (or both!) i shed a silent tear. zee deserves better (im mostly joking)

Know this is an older post but since OP’s questions aren’t being answered properly and I feel like defending one of my favorite ships today Imma do what I want. Just went a head and made the post here instead of reblogging since I’ve been wanting to make a post like this in a while anyways. A lot more under cut.

CodeGold is J x N. A lot of folks who ship CodeGold ship it in a way of J getting better and treating N better. Of course that isn’t the case for everyone but it’s really black and white to paint every Codegold shipper as “horrible individuals.”

J x N isn’t “proship” or whatever. People just call any ship that they don’t like “proship.” Even more if the relationship isn’t best in source which a lot of folks seem to forget about AUs or fanmade redemptions of those characters/relationships in that context.

It’s also because of the “bully x victim” trope which is fine to not like even if the bully improves but again, not good to paint folks as horrible people over shipping something you(general you) don’t like.

Comship is short for complex/complicated ship, Proship is short for “For shipping” hence “pro = for” and “ship = relationship” meaning a proshipper is someone whose for any shipping, including problematic ones. Proship is not short for “problematic ship” as the misinformationed and disinformed would say. That’s their definition of it, not what proship actually means. Proship is a shipping stance. The proship stance is that you’re for anyone shipping any ship they want, even if you don’t like them, as long as it isn’t harmful to anyone. Of course not every proshipper is the same but with so much misinformation and disinformation about the term it’s unsurprising that a lot of people use the term incorrectly or say they’re “proship” just to mean they’re a problematic person.

Comship is in terms of relationships, it means any relationship that is considered complex or complicated would fall under that but because of how many folks use it incorrectly or associate it only with darkships, I’d say it’s fine and even understandable to not want to use that term. It has similar views to proship but they aren’t the exact thing. The creator of the term has a card explaining it in more detail: https://comship.carrd.co

Darkship is becoming more of a known term but it’s exclusively the problematic/taboo ships. It wouldn’t be wrong to use comship to refer to them but it is disingenuous to say a ship is comship and ignore other examples of what comshipping is. Comships are not always darkships.

In short, proshipping is only referring to the shipping stance, comship works as a shipping stance (similar views to proship) and refers to the relationships themselves, darkship refers to problematic/taboo ships and folks who ship them (darkshippers), so while J x N COULD be considered comship BECAUSE of it being a rarepair or being a relationship that’s complicated since it changes how their relationship is in the source material (which is complicated in itself), it isn’t inherently problematic. Not every J x N shipper ships it because of it having the potential of being abusive or some form of a darkship, more of us, including myself, ship it because we like the potential of J x N having a better relationship than they do in source and it simply is that.

It’s honestly so BS how many people keep trying to run a narrative with NO IDEA what they’re talking about. Idc how any one feels about proship, comship, or Codegold itself because ship discourse is so fucking messy that I never intentionally get involved in it a ton but it’s literally so braindead how there wasn’t an issue with CodeGold for a while till some MD twitter fans started being some really nasty mfers to CodeGold shippers and now it’s still has its consequences today with people still spreading misinformation about it and having CodeGold all in their DNIs. Which is fine but the assumption of every CodeGold shipper being a darkshipper or terrible individual is Not it. “Funnier” when the ones who are against CodeGold and actively spread hate about it, send death threats over it, etc. are more worse to those who ship it than J is to N. Because regardless of how anyone feels, to put fictional life over a real being’s own life is BS. A fictional character won’t kill themselves because you told them to kill themselves but a real person could.

To add insult to injury, Aylover was the one who came up with the term “CodeGold” for J x N. She used to be a popular Murder Drones artist who drew a fair bit of shipping content. She deactivated her account on here and Twitter. As far as I know, folks harrassed her over shipping CodeGold and Cyn x N art she made BEFORE the episode came out. Even though she didn’t ship CodeGold as an abusive ship, didn’t ship Cyn x N and deleted her artwork of it, folks STILL harrassed her and considered her to be a horrible individual over that. I don’t know the definitive reason for her deactivating her accounts but I do know she made a post about leaving the MD community due to being harrassed and would be posting more in the TADC community before eventually deleting her accounts entirely. Talks of people harrassing her off the internet were after that. I cherish the ColdGold term even more now because Aylover was genuinely one of my favorite artists ever and to see her do nothing actually wrong just to get harrassed off the internet like this? These people are genuinely pathetic.

It’s another reason why I’m so defensive about shipping CodeGold. It’s genuinely so mindbogging how folks who hate J x N so much because it’s “abusive” are literal harassers themselves.

Ending turn into more of a rant/vent but eh. Hopefully OP gets what I mean but if not, it’s just good for me to get another ColdGold shipcourse post out there.

so as happened with the maze women last year, i ended up writing more than i planned on and therefore my teresa/beth fic that was going to be in both the "they never meet in canon" and "be the first to write a ship" spots for @mazerunner-rarepairs is not going to be finished until after may. however i refuse to not get bingo so i am going to post a snippet from the fic here with a promise that the entire fic will come some time in june, most likely.

context: this is a Station Eleven-type apocalypse where a massive pandemic killed most people.

“So, doctor, why aren’t you in a settlement?” Beth asks. She crosses her arms, and Teresa is reminded of how strong she looks. “You don’t see many solo travelers these days, unless they’ve been kicked out of somewhere.”

Teresa takes a breath, prepared to recite her usual speech.

“This is what I do. Most places I’ve been to don’t have many people with medical knowledge, so I travel around and help where I can. All I ask in return is a safe place to sleep for a few days and whatever food you can spare. I’ll patch up your wounded, do general checkups, whatever you need. It’s my way of making my survival matter.”

That gets Beth to raise an eyebrow, curious but not enough to drop her guard.

“I don’t get it,” Beth states. A breeze picks up and moves the loose strands around her head, her face aflame. “There’s no self-preservation in this. There’s no community, either. Who exactly are you doing this for?”

Recently, I came across these tweets, and I kind of can’t stop thinking about this.

I adore villain x heroine ships and dynamics, and frequently find myself pondering what it is I love so much about them. One thing I’ve come to notice is this very idea: the importance of the male villain’s desire for her… his near-obsession and the fact that he is threatened by her. And, as mentioned in those tweets, part of what makes that so special is the rarity of seeing men or male characters treat women as being so important, as being valid or worthy of consideration as a threat. To me, it can be almost empowering to explore such dynamics through fiction.

One of my favorite movies, of course, is Star Wars: A New Hope, and primarily because I’ve always been absolutely obsessed with whatever is going on with Leia and Vader and Tarkin there. It always draws me right in… the powerful Dark Lord near-obsessively chasing down this tiny defiant young princess, slaying so many soldiers and going through such effort, so adamant that she be brought to him alive.

And from there, she’s treated as a high-class prisoner, heavily guarded and locked up tight, interrogated ruthlessly… but resisting with all the strength and pride of a leader in an underdog rebel movement. She’s essentially the one who is the key to the entire story.

As for Tarkin, he spends much of his screen time dealing with Leia… focused on how best to break the rebel prisoner who holds such key information in this galaxy-spanning war. Most famously, of course, this is illustrated with the destruction of Alderaan… an entire planet wiped away as an act of spite and a means to manipulate the girl he regards as a critical enemy. He is rather creepy and demeaning to her, too, but this only serves to add to a complex power dynamic worth exploring….

Moreover, I imagine it is rare to see a powerful military man treating a nineteen-year-old young woman as a credible threat to his Empire, but in ANH, it’s very much the case. And with the villain/heroine subtext I rather enjoy envisioning from their little scenes together, it can be quite captivating and unique.

There are a lot of similarly enjoyable pairings in many mahou shoujo series— Usagi and Dimande in Sailor Moon, Ichigo and Kisshu in Tokyo Mew Mew, and all manner of Pretty Cure rarepairs— where young girls simply trying their best are the ultimate key to defeating evil and have an ongoing rivalry/love-hate relationship with the worst of monsters. The subtext in such dynamics is fun to explore just as it popular in fandom to do with many popular male superheroes and their archenemies— Batman and the Joker, for instance.

In fact, even when it comes to the most cliche and stereotypical damsel-in-distress stories, the inciting incident, the villain’s capture of the innocent girl, always comes from his inherent desire for her— whether it be her beauty or status, or some form of obstacle which she presents to his evil plan.

It’s so strange and fascinating to think that these sorts of dynamics, particularly when it comes to ship discourse in fandom, are often decried as “toxic” and “abusive”. It’s not as if there aren’t some very dangerous power dynamics at play— which only makes these relationships that much more fun to explore in fiction— but so too can they truly serve as a power fantasy for women and girls, who are so often told made to feel as if we aren’t important.

Sometimes I just need a villain to chase me across the galaxy and regard me as his “worthy foe”, you know? 🥺🥰

Just a heads up that I’m going to be taking a break from making fandom content.

I’m at a point now where I want to express myself and fanart just doesn’t seem to cut it. At one point I’ll come back to doing it but as of right now, I can’t give a time frame for when that will be.

Be patient cause I know when ST5 comes out the Jancy brainrot will return, Trust me on this.

Idk about Scott Pilgrim stuff cause I’m very invested in two characters only and they aren’t very popular (ok Neil’s kinda in the middle tbh, Stacey though no). Also I feel kinda alone in my rarepair. I know there are others but even then I still feel lonely in it. It’s difficult making rarepair stuff and atm I don’t have the energy to continue doing it. Very sorry about that!

I will sometimes make text posts about random headcanons in relation to my ships if I have any cause it’s bound to happen. So fandom stuff won’t be completely gone.

Anyways expect to see some poetry and more original illustrations coming from me. Heck my ocs may end up becoming a big part of my art who knows!

I hope you all can understand. I must let my creative voice scream and give me a chance to figure out who I am more. This is something extremely important to me as a soon to be art major.

Being obsessive has its’ downsides. And yes, she knows. Everyone always assumes you don’t realize. It’s pretty annoying. Weirdly enough, being obsessive makes her miss important ques. She’s so focused on Akutagawa, she doesn’t pick up on important details and only ends up making him more upset with her. She knows he’ll never really like her.

Tolerate her maybe, but, well.

She can’t blame him is all.

She started sleeping around a little, just as a distraction really. It doesn’t really feel as good as people make it out to be. It’s not like her one night stands are all bad at it. Some of them are pretty good, but when you’re in love with someone else… no one compares. Not that she’s ever slept with Akutagawa of course. At least, not like that. She’s slept halfway on his hospital bed. Does that count? It probably doesn’t count.

Well, anyway, tonight is such a night. Sitting in a Port Mafia bar, waiting for some shmuck to hit on her. Okay that’s mean, most of them aren’t shmucks. They’re quite nice actually.

A portal opens up at the bar, you know, right where she’s sitting. Welp, night’s over, looks like someone has come to cause chaos and really, she does not need more chaos right now.

“Ladies and gentlemen!” the newcomer announces as she prepares to leave, a strange accent he’s got, “I’m here to propose a little game to you!”

Someone has already tried to escape, only to discover the doors are blocked off from the outside. Crap. She makes her way toward the backroom of the bar to leave and finds her way blocked by striped pants and an odd giggle. Oh, she knows exactly who this is. But why is the Decay of Angels messing with the Port Mafia?

“Why are you here?” she asks.

“I’m just here for a good time, what about you?”

“I was just leaving.” she deadpans.

Another snicker from Gogol, “Well I’m afraid you can’t. All exits are blocked off. So! What were you here for.”

“I was just here to let off some steam.”

“Ah yes, alcohol is most certainly the answer!”

“Whatever.”

“Aww, don’t be like that!”

“Didn’t think you were done announcing your game yet.”

“Oh! I’m not! Thanks for reminding me, be right back!”

Higuchi sighs and returns to her seat at the bar. Nikolai shoots her a smile while he announces whatever thing he set up for them. She’s half listening until a portal opened up under her colleagues and set to them to who-knows-where. But why is she still here?

“So why are you really here? You don’t seem like a heavy drinker.”

Higuchi startles and takes a minute to gape at him.

Then he raises an eyebrow, so she blinks and responds, “It wasn’t that kind of steam.”

“Hmm?”

“I came here to hook up with someone.” she lets out a long suffering sigh.

“Oh! So you were here to get steamy eh?”

“Sure.”

“Well if you were meeting up with someone specific I can get them back here for you.” he winks.

“I wasn’t, sorry to disappoint.”

“Ahhh, but I didn’t take you for someone who sleeps around a lot.”

“Jeez, how would you even know that.”

“I heard you like someone specific.”

“I do, but he’s not available.”

“I see.”

“Do you.” she’s unimpressed.

“Yes, I’ve got my own unrequited love.”

“Oh.. sorry.”

“It’s okay! So, how long for you?”

“I don’t know, it’s all I can remember at this point.”

“Yeah, I feel the same.” he takes a seat next to her, “Does sleeping around help?”

“Not really.”

“Ah,” he smiles but it’s pained, “bartender! A vodka please!”

Higuchi pulls a face, “You portalled him away, remember?”

“Of course, I’ll just have to go and pour my own drinks then!” his hand disappears into a portal until he pulls out a vodka bottle and pours the liquor directly into his mouth.

“…right.”

“So! Are you going to try something else to get over the gut wrenching pain of an unrequited love?”

“I don’t know. I can’t really come up with something better.” she sighs.

“That’s no fun, hey- listen here! I’ve got a fun game to watch, so how about you join me as a spectator, yes?”

“I guess. This game isn’t going to hurt my coworkers is it?”

“It might. But probably not! If they listen to the rules, anyway.”

“..great.”

“So you’ll come?”

“Why not?”

“Excellent, it’ll be like a date!”

“A date?”

“Mhm! We’re not getting anywhere with the people we’re in love with, I figure at least we might have each other, yes?”

the g3nshin fandom as a whole has a HUGE problem with biphobia, and hypocrisy tbh. like other than the ob3y me fandom, i’ve never seen such blatant biphobia. your faves can be in a mlm/wlw ship and be bisexual. they can be in a het-passing ship and be bisexual. or t4t, etc.

like twt is a hellhole in itself, but it is MASSIVELY toxic and weird how some of y’all act about certain ships that aren’t even implied.

y’all will go on about how “amazing” rarepairs are if they’re wlw/mlm, and you’ll ship characters who barely or don’t even interact. and that in itself is NOT problematic!! i’m a rarepairs fan too.

but i literally saw someone mention how “gross” Focalors x Neuvillette is. even tho… they’re both grown adults, and Furina isn’t depicted like a child like Nahida (who is also hundreds of years old, but is shown as a child). like if you don’t see them romantically/see them more like family, that’s fine!! that’s valid!! but nowhere is it implied, hinted or outright said that they’re like/are family (like Diluc and Kaeya, Jean and Barbara, Albedo and Klee, etc.). so like,, What. please remember to differentiate your hcs from canon 😭 like i personally see Ganyu and Xiao as a family with Zhongli, but if you wanna ship them idrc. cuz they’re all pretty much the same age (fought together during the Archon War). like that’s a non problematic ship right there.

y’all shipped so many characters before they were even released (ex wriolette, chlorivia, which are valid in their own right btw), but how dare people ship Wriothesley and Chlorinde (for example) instead /sarc. like,, the two characters who DID have more screen time with each other than with their “fandom popular s/o” (Wriothesley is probably an exception tbh).

and again, the biphobia. if you don’t like m/f or het-passing ships, fine whatever that’s you. but to automatically assume we think a character is straight, or to ignore bi headcanons is just,, really weird. you don’t have to like or agree with them either, but to say “eww why did you make them straight” is just weird too 💀

What is a rarepair?

We set the “rarepair” bar in the Witcher fandom at 500 published works on AO3 (as of 30 April, 2023)

Most pairings are welcome! In keeping with the spirit of the event, we encourage you to seek out the rarest pair you possibly can - and that you are comfortable with - and give them some love.

For pairings not in the Witcher fandom, please do not submit the most popular pairings in your fandom. You know your fandom best! Choose pairings that aren’t in the top four or five as there is usually a noticeable drop in the amount of fics after that. Included here is an example from Critical Role:

General Event Procedures

Fill out the signup form and pick your two categories from the four available - Fluff, angst, smut and tropes!

For smut prompts, you must confirm you are over 18 on the signup form.

Add any squicks and/or triggers

The team does their best to match participants to cards in a timely manner. However, if you receive a card containing something you’ve identified as a squick or trigger, contact the moderation team immediately for a replacement.

1. what’s the best thing about shipping for you?

I honestly just love having another person that is just as thrilled about our characters being together. Whether it’s CCxCC, CCxOC, or cross fandom. I’ve actually gotten into new fandoms because of panfandom ships and honestly they’ve become some of my favorites.

2. what’s the worst thing about shipping for you?

While this isn’t across the board by any means— most people are REALLY chill about shipping— I’ve come across some that have weird expectations once you’re shipping with them. And I’m really not into that. I’ve literally had people drop me as a writing partner because I didn’t give their ship ‘enough attention’ and tbh I don’t have the time or the energy for that.

3. do you have a pet peeve when it comes to shipping?

Besides what was listed above— I really don’t like that sometimes, when you ship, everything turns to smut. Honestly I’m not even sure I want to open myself up to smut on tumblr. When I first started writing on this site (back in 2015) I was very involved in writing smut with all my ship partners and one day I realized that was 90% of what I was writing and what was being asked of me. I love a good smut scene as much as the next writer but unless I know the other writer VERY well? I’ll probably fade it.

11. do you have any popular ships (for walking dead muses)?

I don’t know how popular they are in tandem of other ships but Rick x Negan, Michonne x Rick, Carl x Enid, and Beth x Daryl are some of my favs that I can find art for. So I’m guessing they are popular.

12. do you ship any rarepair (for walking dead muses)?

I definitely do but some are on the questionable side 😂 And I most likely won’t be writing them here. Dead Dove girlies do, in fact, dead dove. Ofc I’m also starting to like Negan x Rick x Michonne and I’ve not really seen that… Abraham x Rick as well because two tough men together is just. Good. Beth x Carl is also HELLA growing on me. And Tyreese and Carol but again??? I don’t know if that’s a rarepair, it’s just not something I’ve seen much of?

15. what’s your OTP when it comes to your muse (for walking dead muses)?

*clicks tongue* See popular ships. Look, I understand Rick and Negan aren’t good for each other, alright, but they are good for me. And that’s what matters. But also— even if I like a ship or have an OTP, that doesn’t mean my muse will go for it every time. It’s all about the chemistry ✨ And I love seeing characters in like every single dynamic ever.

16. what’s your NOTP when it comes to your muse (for walking dead muses)?

With my muses? Noooot really. I’m open to most things— though I certainly wouldn’t say I ‘ship’ every intimate involvement my muse has, no matter how deep it goes. I like wrongshipping and enemyslash and writing couples that just will not work in the long term.

I don’t think I’d write every available pairing on here by any means, but when it comes to my barbie dolls? They can do whatever the hell they want within my (and my writing partners) personal boundaries.

Aside from my muses— my only real NOTP in the fandom is Negan x Maggie when it’s squishy. Like toxic as hell, I can get. But squishy?

No, but seriously, I think one of the things that would be the hardest to convey to anyone outside of Cherish’s specific shipping field is just how unalike my experience is to basically anyone else in the BSD fandom.

While the rest of y’all can be out there freely sharing your favorite pairings and art and original characters and fankids and whatnot with your fellow BSD fans in servers and various other BSD communities and at least be getting a little bit of love and interest and visible positive vibes and support in return, I…don’t really get the luxury of doing that.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that life in the fandom is by any means easy for all of y’all out there; I know firsthand from being a ChuuArt stan even before this whole charade that depending on your ship, the metaphorical seas can very rough to sail and judgy people are always gonna be at least in some places you go to, to try to bring you down and make you feel bad about fictional interests. Sometimes, it can be super hard to find those niche but absurdly valuable sane circles where people will be down to listen to you without immediate judgement, and when walking into a new group you often have to sus out whether the environment is welcoming or not before you try to hang out there and mingle with others in talking about your ships and faves and whatnot, but — and here’s the key difference — those places do exist, if you go looking for them. There are people, an entire, fairly large demographic of people, that you can feel safe with, who will, in fact, listen and care, or at least respect your ships even if they personally don’t care for them. They are out there. And once you’ve found them, you know automatically that you’re in safe hands to talk about your all your ships and faves and OCs and fankids to your heart’s content!

…Unless it’s Cherish’s main pairing — its specific brand of RimLaine — then, and only then, nothing is guaranteed.

And I know someone will probably try to say, “okay, but that’s just like having any other OC you ship with someone, isn’t it? There are probably plenty of people who have experienced that!”

But no, it isn’t, and there aren’t.

I’ve been in large and small BSD communities all over, and I have seen enough to know that actually, OCs — yes, even fankids and self-inserts — are pretty damn well received in this fandom comparably to most other fandoms I’ve been in; because of its inherent nature of taking authors and transforming them into fictional characters with unique superpowers based on their works, it is a fandom that absolutely thrives on fan creations and fan content. Even if someone doesn’t know your OC personally, 9 times out of 10, if you’re bold enough, you can still waltz straight into a server or whatever-else-have-you type of community and just start talking about them freely, and you’re nearly guaranteed to be accepted into the fold. People will call your creations cute, they’ll ask friendly and excited questions about your ideas, and they’ll just in general compliment you and hang out with you like you’re one of the group; it may be significantly harder to find people to talk with than they more popular pairings, yes, but it’s pretty much on par or often actually even better than your average rarepair experience.

…So, what makes Cherish different, then? Shouldn’t its unique version of Arthur fit in just fine with the crowd? Isn’t it the very essence of BSD to bring authors into the BSD world, isn’t it celebrated for fans to do their own spins on going about that all of the time, to widely varying degrees of how much history and life of the author they transfer over into their BSD incarnation?

In technicality, the answer to both of the latter questions is an unequivocal ‘yes’, but to all too many of those in the fandom — they see it nevertheless as a resounding ‘no’. Even if you find the most universally accepting group of people in the world in regards to fictional creations and ships and whatnot, even in this fandom which itself is built upon a slightly fantastical, slightly science-fiction-y historical rpf AU, the moment you utter or even so much as imply or are read as implying the term “historical rpf AU”, at least half or more of those once-rational people will immediately turn to hungry rabid animals, ready to bite your head off and say that actually, while even the most ‘problematic’ of ships imaginable with canon characters is perfectly fine in their eyes and no type of fanfic should be banned or stopped from existing because it’s fiction, you and your historical rpf-adjacent creation deserve to be harassed and wiped off the face of the Earth, no matter how many centuries long passed the individual(s) involved are and how respectful you are in their portrayal(s) (let’s never mind the absolute hypocrisy given the fandom and the fact that the “f” in rpf stands for ‘fiction’, and is, therefore, a form of fiction).

For the purpose of this post, I’ll acknowledge once and only once that somehow — and much to my complete bafflement — I have gotten far more hate and hate watchers over Cherish’s main pairing than I have ever gotten over ChuuArt.

Now, that’s not going to stop me in any way from doing what I do — not even remotely, because quite honestly, I don’t care, I love this fic and this pairing, and I’m having the time of my life regardless — but, it should go to show, at the very least, what I mean when I say that being Cherish’s author is a uniquely lonely experience.

I watch people gushing every day in the broader fandom about their fave pairings and their OCs and crossovers and fankids and whatever else they desire in servers and getting people to engage with them and hype with them for their ideas, sharing their fanarts and such and having fun, but unlike all of them, that really is the most I can do, even if the sanest and safest of fandom spaces, unless I happen to have spent years getting to know an individual and be absolutely certain that I won’t be crucified right out the gate (or they are clearly a fan of or supportive of my fic). If I do post anything art related, it’s usually completely without context and a one and done thing.

And really, that’s fine. I’m happy that I just have this blog to gush and post on, all of y’all following (y’all sweethearts 💖), and the ability to share it all with you — my perfectly curated, respectful, and lovely few, in my perfectly curated corner of this fandom here on Tumblr. In a way, it’s special and flattering — to know how unique Cherish is in its concept that it is so uniquely lonely because it isn’t considered to fully fit within any existing branch of this fandom’s fan creations, and to know that there are people out there who are so obsessed with it that they choose to let its existence live rent-free in their heads, whether positively, or negatively (because they haven’t learned how to curate their fandom experiences); I have a lot of love in my heart for all of that and for all of you who make it possible, and if anything, it inspires me to go even further on the extra mile in continuing with this endeavor in this most unhinged (positive, afffectionate) way possible. 💖

So many times I have wanted to explain that there is a very unique loneliness to being Cherish’s author (outside of our little community) that I don’t think could ever really be felt anywhere else in the fandom, but it’s so hard to put into words and I fear that in many ways this will be interpreted entirely negatively — when, in fact, it is that same unique loneliness to its existence that also is part of what makes it so uniquely beautiful and special.

Idk, maybe I’ll elaborate in the future when I’m better rested and equipped for that commentary, but for now just have this random thought, I guess.
