yandere-oc!criminal x fem!reader
tw: attempt threat, stalking (he is stalking you, you just didn't know) an: So this story has 'Part Two' Don't worry I won't just leave the ending without knowing how You gonna repay my oc Keiran. Spoiler alert. He is Yandere in part two just you know why my tag is Yandere and the story is not. Well, a long one again i don't like doing short stories (sometimes) I want my readers to read a lot haha jk, but it's entertaining to read a long short story with a bit of detail. :)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ef2d2150707638a74e3c7a0dfa2115b2/4d0ae6e2eb84db88-42/s540x810/5a55b1677d0ded6015d1198d4ae1e4648b5d8d1e.jpg)
You were replacing some cereal boxes on the shelving and also some bottles of noncold juice, you are hard-working right now since the time when a visitor came to your house and your father was the one looking for and you listened to their talking and you were shocked to hear that your father had debt from those people.
What makes you even more shocked is that your father owns them, 2 million and you realize that the payment for your uncle's operation and his room were paid too.
So that's where the money was from...
And you feel bad since your father doesn't have a better job his boss didn't pay him enough salary and you are also still in college you asked him to let you work but he disagreed because he doesn't want you to get involved and focus on your school.
But you try to tell and understand your father and after pleasing him he finally says yes but tells you to not let too much work on yourself and you promised him.
And now you're here working as you are done putting the products you stay at your counter waiting for some kind of customer that's what you want, you don't like those who just barge in and are rude to you when you say good day and are they just roll their eyes or even just get their product and left.
After an hour the bell rang and you looked up and saw a man, he was tall wearing a long black coat and dark grey shirt and pants and his buzz cut and a well-cut beard also he was wearing black lens shades he is quite handsome though looks like a man who owns everything.
He walks towards the drink center and you look back to your phone scrolling not minding the customer, after a minute you hear footsteps coming closer and you look up to see him carrying a bottle of energy drink and a chocolate bar, what a combination I thought he brought a beer.
You took the energy bottle and punched it with the price scanner and then the chocolate bar, when you were about to say the overall price suddenly a bell rang and a man went in, he looked tired no. He is drunk, in the morning for real!?
Then he approached the cashier counter "Hey can I have one bottle of beer" he said and you immediately looked at him "Sir you need to leave you are drunk" "No I'm not" you said with a tsk, "No sir you need to leave" you said loud and he groans and trying to balance himself "I said no!" he said fighting back at you "Sir yo-" he cut you off "I said I'M NOT DRUNK!" he shout and immediately trying to grabbed you.
Before he could do that a tall man stopped him grabbed his shirt and brought his face closer to him, "The lady said you need to leave" he said in a deep voice that sounded like threatened you to death, "Before I make this place a mess" he added and the drunk man just stare at him with fear and he immediately let go of his shirt and he ran out the convenience store.
"Thanks for that," you said and he smiled "It's $5.35," you told him the overall price and he took out a wallet and stopped and looked at you "Do you accept cards?" he asked and you looked at him puzzled "No we don't accept card only cash," you said made a small laugh and you saw him pulling back a black card inside, jeez this person is rich...
"Sorry," he said and pulled 6 dollars "I was kinda used to cards actually," he said chuckling about it "I see" You accepted the money and gave him the exchange. "No need to pack it up," he said and you nodded and gave him the bottle and the bar.
"You should be careful" he said and you looked at him "Thanks for your worries I know and I will," you said and smiled, he chuckled "Might someone point a gun at you," he said jokingly and I laughed at it.
"I will and I won't be stupid if that happens Mr rich," you said joking with him and he put his wallet in his pocket before he got out of the store, "See ya around Miss Lady," he said and got out and you made small wave.
What a nice person, you said in your mind and he also worries about your position after an hour of serving, scanning, and being kind to every customer you encountered it was going to be night and your shift was going to end this day and you saw your co-worker went in and you both exchange and now you are out the store.
You blow a breath and hug yourself in the wintered snow of Chicago well it's time to head home might your father waiting for you. As you walk through the street you feel your stomach getting empty and you don't mind you don't want to spend money you just work hard, you need this for your father's debt.
As you walk you get bumped into a person and he looked irritated "Watch your step bitch" he said and you look at him "What did you just call me!?" you said "I said watch where you're going. Bitch" he said that curse word made you boiled and he saw that you try to fight and he immediately pull something on his pocket but someone stopped him a hand grabbed on his arm.
You look up seeing the man in the store, Mr rich. The guy looked at him and immediately pulled out his hand from his pocket apologizing and walked away, dang who is this rich person why those everyone scared of him?
"Thanks again for that," you said exhaling yourself from anger, you have anger issues so. "I told you to be careful" "I am!" you said crossing your both arms "That guy almost pointed a gun at you," he said, and you shrugged "I know and I know how to defend myself," you told him "I need to get home my father is waiting for me," you said before you could walk away he grabbed your arm and you turn to look at him.
"Where's my payback for that?" he asked "Uh..." You think something yes he has saved you twice now and that think of him too much of saving you, "How about a discount in the store" "No, not interested" "I know you're rich but how about dollars," you said not your work's money for your father, your own money.
"I don't need money dear," he said and you heard your stomach make a small sound really right now, "You didn't eat?" he asked "No but I'll just eat at home," you told him "Where is your address I can take you there safety" "At West Town but thanks for the ride I'll just call taxi," you said "That's too far from here in River North since your hungry I'll buy you food my treat" he said and you look annoyed a bit "No need to-" "I insist"
.....
You both now eating inside a restaurant in River West, you didn't get to fight back and he brought you here, "Why are you working in River North when your home is far from there" he asked sipping his wine well he brought you to an expensive luxury restaurant "I studied in Columbia College with a Audio Arts degree".
"You do music?" you nodded your head and looked at his face he was impressed "I'll always encounter people with art, medicine, and engineer degrees and that's too common, and hearing yours is quite rare," he said and you nodded your head continue eating your food.
After a minute of eating and talking about your life and his small topic about his too. You both got out of the restaurant and you looked at him "Well thanks for the treat I appreciate it" you said and he chuckled and smiled "No worries" "How can I repay you for that?" before he opened his mouth a car went in front of you both and he walks towards and a man got out and opened a door for him. He is really rich.
You turn to look at him when he gets in "I forgot to introduce I just brought you there in a weird way" he said more like asking your name yeah it's weird since you both started to talk about both of your lives without knowing both of your names, you told him your name and he smiled. "Keiran," he said before he rolled up his window.
"Hey about my repay?"
"You can pay me next time dear"

☆ Special candy
Summary; Ace ate a candy and turned into the opposite sex lol, I feel like it would be a dumb situation he would put himself into 💀🏃🏻♀️
Warning: f!reader, fluff/comedy
Authors note: I finally came to the rescue of the Ace’s fic shortage
。・:*˚:✧。
Earlier in the day at an island ⁑
You two passed by a boutique who looked quite old and there was bunch of unique objects outside of the store, which automatically caught y’all eyes.
-They have cool bracelets! We should get matching ones babe!
Ace enthusiastically exclaimed grabbing two bracelet and heading inside the old store. You chuckled and followed your boyfriend inside, with a smile.
A woman who seemed to be a bit older than you two welcomed y’all into the store. She pushed her dark long hair behind her shoulder as she fixed her glasses and continued knitting, which seemed to be scarf.
-Mmm, look there is more options..
Ace pointed at with a serious expression. He got closer to the wall where multiple bracelets were hanging. You approached him and started observing them with him.
-If you buy two, you get a discount in the rings.
The woman spoke without looking at us. Ace looked at you brushing off his shoulders. He wasn’t really into rings but he pointed them, insisting you look to see if you like anything. As you looked through them, he walked around the store, a smile floating on his lips to the view of all the weird objects.
-Y’all are a couple?
The seller asked as she leaned over her counter, putting away her knitting project.
-Yeah, why?
Ace asked, his back faced to her. You glanced over at your boyfriend as you walked back to him with nothing, no ring really interested you.
-Y’all wanna try some candies ?
-Candies?
You asked with a cocked eyebrow. You directly thought it was probably some sex thing candy with aphrodisiac propriety. The 2nd commander finally looked back at her.
-I won’t say what exactly what it does, but it might be fun…
-Um n-
-Yeah why not?
Ace beat you to it and accepted as you were about to refuse.
Clearly who were you to just take some random candies from a sketchy boutique.
-You don’t even know whats in the candy
You stated as you rolled your eyes, following him to the cash where he put the two bracelets down, ready to pay.
-Don’t worry it’s not a drug, but I assume as you two seem to be pirates, a little movement in your daily life might be fun and interesting.
You furrowed your eyebrows at her word. You seemed to be the only one skeptic while your lover was done paying. She grabbed a green box with two blue candies. She put each one in a separate bag and slid a note in yours.
-I slid a note for you as you don’t seem to trust me too much. You can read it, but I think it will spoil the fun
She continued with a smile. She didn’t seem like any harm, but you still weren’t very excited about trying something weird from a stranger. Your man grabbed his bag and handed yours with one of the bracelets.
-Alright, thanks !
Ace smiled as he waved at the lady. She smiled back and as we left her store, she went back into knitting with a mischievous smirk.
Later that day ⁑
You threw the shopping bags in a corner in Ace’s room as you jumped into the bed, totally exhausted from walking everywhere. Discovering a new island with him is visiting at least 5 restaurants a day, looking through most boutiques, visiting unpopular spots and making out somewhere and then ending the day at some bar with the rest of the crew. You were exhausted to say the least.
Ace laughed as he watched you laid down on the bed.
-already tired ?
-shut up
You mumbled in a tired tone that stirred another chuckle out of the pirate. You rolled on your back, but something got out of your pocket: the blue candy. You totally forgot about it with everything.
-Oh the weird drug
You said without much enthusiasm as you watched the pink bag on the floor. With a quick move, you grabbed it. Your boyfriend took it out of his pocket with a smirk.
-Should we try it ?
-You do it without me
-Awww come onnn, babeeee
-Nooooo
You pushed yourself further into the sheets, letting your fatigue get the best of you. There was no way you were eating this. You threw the bag in the small bin close to his bed.
-You’re boring
Ace said with a pout and he quickly ate the candy. You honestly didn’t have the energy to scold him or care so you just watched him with a deadpan expression.
-How do you feel?
-Normal?
-Nice, now come lay down with me.
You changed into your pyjama as he slid under the sheets with a simple pair of boxer. You wrapped an arm over his torso and he left a kiss over your forehead as his arm wrapped your shoulders.
-I’m a bit disappointed
-huh?
- the candy
-…I told you it was sketchy
-yeah..
He yawned before pulling you more into him. You chuckled softly to yourself as you shook your head.
-Goodnight, baby~
-Mm..goodnight..
He mumbled as he quickly fell asleep.
***
You didn’t remember that you were so comfortable. Your head was lying down a plushy surface, but as much as you were terribly comfortable, Ace’s hair kept brushing into your face, tickling your nose. You did a mental note to yourself to cut his hair that might have gotten longer than you noticed. You grumbled as you stirred awake. You rolled on your back where you started at the ceiling for a moment to get your eyes used to being open. You rubbed them before turning to your side to stare at Aces sleepy figure.
What you didn’t expect was to literally see a naked woman in the bed just next to you. You screamed in total shock and pushed her & the sheets down the bed. You quickly grabbed Aces dagger on the night stand and shakily sat on the bed, ready to attack.
-Who tf are you??!
You asked completely shaken by the situation. Were you kidnapped in your sleep ?? Did someone broke into Ace room and locked him out or something?
The mysterious woman finally started to raise from the floor and rubbed her head from the shock.
-Waw..what a way to wake up babe..
You paused for a second.
Babe…
Don’t…
You lowered a little the dagger and looked down at the stranger. She was truly not wearing anything than maybe some black shorts. She had brown wavy hair up to her shoulders and had freckles on her cheeks. She looked at you, big brown sleepy eyes.
-Don’t tell me…
-What’s wrong ?
-What’s your name ?
-Huh?
-Just…just answer please…
-Babe, did you lose your memory while sleeping? I’m Ace, your hot boyfrie-WHAAAATTT?? WHY DO I HAVE BOOBS!!?
You finally dropped the dagger on the bed totally defeated. You pushed back your hair, totally stressed out.
This fkg dumbass.
-I guess you’re a woman now..
-HUUHH?? No..no I need to see Marco!
Ace, out of panic, quickly stood up and was about to head outside when you rushed to him and closed the door shut. You leaned against the door and pushed a pillow against his bare chest.
-You can’t go out with your boobs out, dummy! You only have your boxer on!
-Oh..yeah you’re right..
He admitted after looking down at himself.
-let me lend you a shirt or something..
You grumbled to yourself. It was so his type of behaviour to accidentally eat a candy like that. It still felt weird to talk to your boyfriend when he literally was a woman right now, he still was as stunning though.
-Ew, not a shirt, too hot for that
-Ugh you’re so annoying, wanna walk in a bra then?
You said sarcastically as you looked into your basket of clothes.
-That seems about a good idea-OOOooooOh I’m so hot!
You turned around to see him admire himself in the mirror, looking at his face attentively.
-Ugh, I knew I would be a baddie even as a girl.
You scoffed and threw him a red bikini top.
-Here, it matches your aesthetic pretty girl~
You teased him, but it fell on deaf ears. Ace was too focused on his new pair of boobs.
-STOP PLAYING WITH THEM!
You yelled frustrated and flustered as you grabbed the bikini top that fell on the floor. Ace stared at you with his hands still on them.
-Remove your hands, ima fix the top for you so you look somewhat decent outside.
-Thank you baby, you know I love you so much~
He said as he leaned to kiss you, but still unfamiliar with the visual, you stepped back. Your boyfriend furrowed his eyebrows and you gave him a sorry smile, before pecking his lips.
-Sorry baby, I’m still getting used to it
He gave you a warm smile, stealing a kiss from your lips this time.
-I know, let’s fix this thing so I’m back to normal. I wonder how long it last?
You were now fixing the top at the back, tying it up and making sure he was comfy and had some support.
-Now, that I think of it. Didn’t the lady gave me a paper with all the explanation?
-You’re right! It must still be in the bin!
You walked to the bin and started to search for the bag as Ace put his usual accessories and shorts on.
-Babe…
-Yes?
-I don’t have a dick anymore…
You stayed silent for few seconds contemplating on how to answer this obvious realization. His hand was now on his crotch. He pushed his hair behind his ears as he looked at you with big eyes, totally shocked.
-I found the bag
You ignored his statement and opened the little bag with the candy and the note. You started to read the few lines and sighed relieved.
-Okay it says, it should last a couple of hours, so nothing to worry.
-Nice! Now I’m starving so let’s go eat something!
-The crew is definitely going to be startled !
You laughed as you stared at Ace, still not believing the situation. Your brain couldn’t understand that the person sitting next to you was the man you loved so much, but in your heart nothing truly changed. He chuckled and pecked your cheek as he took your hand in his.
-Yeah, it’s definitely gonna be a lesson
-Will it really be tho?
-Mmm, I don’t know I’m too hungry to think
-Ugh, i gotta admit you are a cute girl~
-Then you know we have few hours to explore this body?
He said wiggling his eyebrows.
-Ace..
-What? I’m curious to know how it fe-
-Let’s go eat!
You heard your boyfriend laugh behind you as you ran to the door. You were starting to be very hungry too and all that mess deserved a well balanced breakfast.
*****
EXTRA
-Hopefully that will be a lesson to this idiot to not eat anything and islander give him-oi
Marco commented with a smirk as he bit into an apple.
-You really think it’s gonna solve his reckless behaviour?
You commented as you shook your head. The commanders have been making fun of Ace since he showed up at the dining hall. It started by total confusion until you explained what happened, which sparked everyone to laugh and tease the second division commander.
-Y’all..are talking…too much sh-

Masterlist||AO3
It was just another day for Jamie. Get up, work at the copy shop, help people with their stacks of papers, and continue on like any other boring day. He was standing at the copier in the back, keeping track of the amount of papers coming out. He had been pinching pennies as best as he could to ensure he had enough for his books this coming semester. The last thing he needed was his boss, Kent, taking out copy fees from his paycheck like the last time he didn’t pay attention.
“Jamie!” Kent hollered, pulling his jacket on as he exited his office, “I’m heading out to lunch. Watch out!” He cackled, “Looks like the pretty lady’s on her way back here. Must want a piece of you, boy!” he added with a wink.
“Oh, I uh- I doubt that,” Jamie said, his cheeks and neck turning a bright red, “She just comes here 'cause it’s cheap.”
“Well, whatever it is,” Kent huffs a laugh, knocking his fist against the door frame, pointing a finger at Jamie, “Keep doing it.”
“Sure thing,” Jamie mutters, watching Kent leave the back office, “Sure thing.”
The bell above the door jingles as Kent makes his way outside with a morning ma’am as he holds the door open for you. The woman who has been inside this store more times than Jamie can count on his fingers and toes combined. You just started showing up, needing copies of the most random things. Fliers for a barbeque you were hosting, a missing cat flier for your dear friend, your boss demanding copies of a flier for half off on his wife's cheap crafts that she’s had a hard time selling, the list goes on and on.
You’re gorgeous but Jamie can’t tell if you like him or not. Surely a woman like you wouldn’t want anything to do with a guy like him. You’re older than him. He knows because you asked him his age once, then let out a boisterous laugh when he responded with a shy ‘twenty-four’ - commenting how you wouldn’t have pegged yourself as the type, whatever that was supposed to mean. Jamie always prays to whatever higher power there may be that he doesn’t pop a boner the moment you walk through the door, your clothes leave little to the imagination every single time you visit and the way you push your tits together makes him want to lean over the counter and place his head between them and never come up for air.
“How can I help you?” Jamie asks, approaching the front desk, trying not to stare at how much cleavage the simple sundress you're wearing shows off.
“Hello Jamie,” you purr, smiling at him and tapping your nails against the wooden countertop. “Today, I’m here for something a little more… personal.”
“Uh, okay,” he squeaks, eyes bouncing from your tits up to your face, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down as he swallows nervously, “What uh- what that might be?”
You let out a sly smile, humming as you tilt your head, your eyes tracing over his features. His hair looks so soft- you bet it would feel like satin through your fingers, the cute dimple on his face when he lets a shy smile grace his lips, and the way his chest puffs out as he stands taller, trying to gain some confidence.
“Well,” you start, his eyes widening as you slink around the counter, heels clicking with every step, “I was thinking - and really, it’s just a thought - but maybe I could see how the copies are made?”
“Uhm,” Jamie hesitates, thick fingers scratching his head, “I don’t kn- I-I mean- m-my boss would probably get pretty mad about that.” He stutters out, as you inch closer to him.
“Is he here?”
Jamie shakes his head back and forth, flinching as your hands skate up his arms, looping your arms around his neck.
“Well then,” you grin, slipping your fingers between the curls at the nape of his neck, batting your lashes at him, “What could the harm be in showing me some behind the scenes?”
Jamie nods dumbly, his arms staying limp at his sides, “O-okay,” he stutters out, “J-just this once.”
—
“Well,” Jamie murmurs, flicking on the light of the backroom, “This is it.”
“Hmm… So this is where the magic happens, huh?” you ask, letting a faint giggle escape your lips as you walk towards the copy machine at the back of the room.
“Y-y-yeah,” Jamie laughs nervously, letting out a harsh snort that sounds eerily like a pig. He coughs roughly trying to cover up the sound of the piggy snort he’d just let out as his cheeks flamed like a tomato in the sun. You turn, looking him up and down with a grin. Oh, he’s cute.
“You gonna show me how to make a copy, Jamie?” You ask innocently, thrumming your fingers against the top of the white machine.
“Uhm,” Jamie swallows, stepping towards you like a scared animal, “S-sure.”
He grabs a manilla folder from the tray beside the copier, taking out a small stack of papers.
“So you just, uh, slide them in this tray,” Jamie says, carefully placing the papers into the top tray, “And then you press this button that says start,” he continues, pressing the button ever so gently as the machine hums to life, sucking the papers in, “And that’s it. Then you just stand here and wait for it to be done.”
“Fascinating!” You exclaim, bending over to watch as the papers shoot out below.
“Then you pull the originals out and place them back in their folder,” he explains, grabbing the folder again, keeping his eyes trained in front so he doesn’t look at you, “And then you grab the copies and place them in with the original. Usually, the copies are really warm.”
You reach your hand over, placing your palm against the warmth of the fresh paper, and let out a satisfied hum.
“Toasty!” you giggle, “So do you only make copies of the stuff you’re supposed to?”
“Yeah,” Jamie sighs, “My boss has some pretty strict rules.”
You pout, looking into Jamie’s big brown eyes. “Well that’s no fun.” You frown, “I bet you could make some interesting copies.”
“Interesting copies?” Jamie asks, tilting his head in confusion.
“Sure,” you say with a nonchalant shrug of your shoulders, “Don’t most copiers have a flat part on them? Not just this shoot thingy?”
“Oh, yeah,” Jamie says, gripping the thick plastic edge pushing it up with a small grunt, “Right here.”
“Perfect!” You clap, before inching the skirt of your dress up. Jamie’s eyes widen like a deer caught in the headlights of a semi-truck as he sees the trimmed curls covering your mound.
“Uh…” Jamie hesitates, unable to tear his eyes away from the glorious site before him, jaw slack and eyebrows near the top of his skull, pointing to your crotch with a single finger, “I- uh- uhm- you.”
You let out a laugh, gripping his shoulder with one hand while the other holds the copier to hoist yourself up onto the flat surface, making sure to spread your thighs to give him a good look at your glistening pussy.
“Brrrr,” you let out a breath squirming, skin rippling with goosebumps as the cool glass hits your naked ass and thighs, “Little chilly.”
Jamie nervously steps back, unsure of what to do. His jeans growing tighter against his groin the longer he stares.
“Now where is that start button?” you huff, moving your legs to find it, “Ah-ha!” You announce, punching the button with your finger to start. The copier hums to life, a bright line of light scanning your ass and thighs, and swooshes out a perfect copy of your bottom half. You smile, admiring the copy of yourself, looking up at Jamie standing like a horny scared rabbit caught in a trap.
“Come here, cutie.” You curl your finger beckoning him closer. Jamie hesitantly moves forward. You smile as you flip the picture around for him to see. “Does it look good?”
Jamie lets out a pathetic, “Oh d-d-dear,” sounding almost identical to Piglet from Winnie the Pooh, and audibly gulps while furiously nodding his head.
“You ever fucked someone?”
“Uh- uhm-“ he starts, before you shush him, laying your hand gently on his forearm. “It’s okay if you haven’t,” you assure him.
“I have!” Jamie protests, wide panicked eyes bouncing back and forth between your own, “J-j-just not with s-someone like you.”
“No worries, sweetheart,” you smile, letting out a soft sigh and looping your fingers through his belt loops, pulling him closer to cage him in between your thighs, “I’ll help.”
His breath mingled with your own as those brown eyes glanced down at your lips, leaning in to brush his pouty lips against yours with a deep sigh. You smile into the kiss, nipping his bottom lip with your teeth causing him to gasp, allowing your tongue to glide into his warm mouth, easily taking the lead. Your hands slide up his torso to his shoulders, gripping the back of his neck deepening the kiss. Your lips trail down his jaw to the pulse point of his neck while he lets out a small whimper.
“You can touch,” you comment, sucking lightly against his neck, reaching for his hands that are still dangling at his sides unsure, leading them to your center. He lets out a harsh sigh when his fingers brush against your slick folds. You moan, guiding his fingers to that sensitive bundle of nerves, showing him the perfect amount of pressure to use that causes your toes to curl. “Oh fuck,” you sigh, as he slips two of his fingers into your wet hole. His breath becomes ragged, watching as your eyes gloss over from the pleasure he’s giving you.
“Feel good?” He asks with an awkward huskiness.
“Mhmm,” you nod, feeling the warmth spreading through your body, hands reaching to undo the button of his jeans, “Fuck,” you groan, feeling that band tightening in your core as his fingers begin to move faster, “Don’t forget the clit, baby,” you remind as his hand fumbles between your legs.
“Sorry,” he murmurs, swirling circles around your clit with his thumb. He helps you push his jeans and boxers down with his free hand, hard cock standing at attention, leaking from the flushed tip. You let out a frustrated whine when he removes his fingers, gripping his cock to swipe it along your entrance.
“Fuck,” you moan, growing impatient, “Just put it in already.”
Jamie nods dumbly, punching his length in like a straw going into a caprisun.
“Fuck!” he yelps, tightly wrapping his arms around you, resting his head on your shoulder, breathing heavily. Gently, you wrap your arms around his shoulders, running your fingers through the curls at the nape of his neck, trying to soothe him as his cock twitches bumping against your walls.
“Move, baby,” you whisper, softly kissing his cheek. Jamie takes a deep breath pulling out, letting out a sharp whine as he sinks back into you. “Just like that,” you hum, sliding one of your hands to where you’re both connected, swirling your fingers in steady circles around your clit, your walls tightening around his cock. “Oh god! Don’t stop,” you moan, your grip on the back of his neck getting tighter.
“Fuck,” Jamie hisses, his body trembling, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he repeats over and over, thrusting his hips against you three more times before he pulls out. Ropes of his come shooting out onto the flat surface of the copier and your sex. You sigh sadly, looking at the streaky white mess he made covering your inner thighs and core. His hard length jutting out above the glass surface.
Perfect.
You giggle, pressing the start button, watching Jamie’s eyes trace the flash of light under you, hearing the swoosh of paper coming out. You grab it excitedly with a shimmy of your shoulders, pushing Jamie back a little to hop off the copier, come sliding down your inner thighs, leaning up you give him a kiss on the cheek.
“Thanks for the keepsake, sugar,” you wink, walking out of the backroom.

Sweet Tooth
Willy Wonka x PlusSize!Reader
Willy watched you walk into his shop for the third time that week.
You looked around nervously.
People around you kept shopping, not paying attention, but he did.
And just like the days before, you suddenly left his store.
You caught the attention of the young chocolatier about a month ago.
You looked around nervously, while you kept staring at the windows of the shop. It took you a month just to enter, Willy can only imagine how long it will take you to buy something.
So, he decided to do something about it.
---
"Be good now! I will get my new dress and we go home!"
"Of course, Mom." you smiled at your mother as she went into the shop.
You immediately headed to the Wonka store.
You bit your lip out of nervousness before entering.
You promised yourself, much like many times before, that this time you will buy a chocolate.
But each time, you ended up nervously walking around before leaving.
But this time, it only took you five minutes to actually enter the store. Many people were inside, you blended in pretty well.
Or at least you thought you did, a certain chocolatier definitely noticed your presence. You looked up at the beautiful cherry tree before moving to the shelves.
No one would know if you just bought one.
Just one.
That's all.
And yet, you were afraid.
You kept staring but not moving, people around you bought whatever they wanted, but not you.
Suddenly a beautiful rose was in your face and you stumbled for a moment, your focus shifting from the rose to the man holding it.
Mr Wonka himself.
"Try it, it is delicious." he simply said and you took the rose from him.
"Wouldn't it be a shame to eat something so beautiful?"
"The shame, My Lady, would be to let the chocolate melt without tasting it."
"You might be right, but I truly mustn't," you argue suddenly looking at the watch on the wall. You still had some time left.
"Why not? Chocolate is good for the soul."
"My parents would argue." your eyes suddenly snapped back at him, realizing that you have definitely overshared. "Sorry." you simply said before running out of the store, with your rose still in your hands.
You weren't sure how, but you managed to hide the rose from your parents and hid it in your room.
Hoping it would never melt.
But you also didn't eat it.
A couple of days later, however, you visited the shop and once again, Mr Wonka came up to you with a box of chocolates.
"I must say Mr. Wonka, your pretty rose seems to melt rather fast."
"I must create something other than! The perfect chocolate which doesn't melt even when you hold it in the summer! But if I may ask, why didn't you just eat it?"
"My parents don't want me to eat sweets. You see I have a sweet tooth... and it is very apparent." you gestured at your figure.
"I don't see any problems with your figure, if anything I believe you are quite charming."
"Thank you." you felt the heat in your face and hoped he didn't realize how his compliment affected you.
"Just try one. I made them specially for you. With a hint of cherry." you took one of the chocolates from his box and popped it into your mouth.
"Oh wow." your eyes shined as you looked into his eyes. "This is wonderful!" the taste of pure chocolate with the hint of cherry and there was something else... something you couldn't quite point out, but it reminded you of your childhood, of happiness. Your grandma, the cakes he used to bake for you. "Thank you, Mr Wonka, it was delicious."
"Please, call me Willy." he smiled and you smiled back at him.
You didn't know then, but it was the start of something amazing.
After that day, you were no longer scared to enter his store, nor did you care about what your parents said.
Chocolate is where your happiness was.
The first time Willy brought you to his factory, you felt truly amazed.
It looked like such a happy place.
"I made this, just for you, I plan on launching them on Valentine's Day." you looked at the pink box in his hands, another colourful creation.
"What do you mean... made it for me?"
"You inspire me so much. I made this with all of your favourite things as a way to... to show you my feelings." you took one chocolate out of the box and popped it into your mouth. As you bit down, you immediately felt the feeling of pure joy. "The first time I ever laid my eyes on you, I still recall how stunned I was... such a beauty in my store. I felt like I was dreaming. And now, here I am, declaring my love, giving you not just this box but my heart as well. Will you take it and accept my feelings?"
Why did you feel like you already knew the answer? The doubt you had deep down, suddenly felt to have disappeared.
"I love you too, Willy." you smiled as fireworks went out around you, and he pulled you in for a simple yet meaningful kiss.
"It seems like, my love for chocolate, gave me the love of my life." he said and you smiled from ear to ear.
Chocolate is where your love was.

The Outsiders Black Friday Headcannons
I know it's late but let me have this
-- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ -- ☆ --
Darry -
This motherfucker is built like a semi truck. No one, I mean no one, would push past him. There's an actually good TV he can surprisingly afford? It's over. Surrender. He will literally bulldoze people out of the way.
◇ Definitely gets stuff for his brothers so they'll be happy
Sodapop -
I think he'd get some decent stuff. Maybe some jean jacket he thought was tuff that was 75% off. I think he'd put up a fight for really nice cheap stuff, but he didn't want to hit a woman so he just settled for something else.
◇ He definitely got some stupid shit like a customized shot glass or something
" Look Dar! Ain't it pretty? "
" You don't even drink, Soda "
" But it's got palm trees! "
Ponyboy -
He doesn't even know it's Black Friday. The fights are regular in Tulsa so he doesn't even think twice when he sees someone punch a lady for a Polaroid. His only clue was when he went to the movies and the cashier said the tickets are 80% off. That was when he started wondering if it was Saturday or Friday.
◇ Even if he knew he wouldn't have gone anywhere except the book store
Johnny -
I feel like Johnny is actually a little scared of Black Friday. He thinks if he buys something he'll get jumped again. So he'd probably just go to the movies with Ponyboy or something.
◇ If he tried Black Friday and someone asked for it, he wouldn't be able to say no, so he fails Black Friday 💀
Dallas -
Technaically, if you steal stuff, everyday is Black Friday. But during Black Friday this mf is throwing punches, tackling people, all of itm Dally just sees it as an opportunity to fight someone, win, and then walk out without paying for it. He probably got arrested for A) Stealing or B) Knocking a guys tooth out.
◇ He sits in the cell all cocky because he has a new leather jacket now so he thinks he's 10x cooler
Two-Bit -
I don't know for sure what he'd do but I think he'd try to put up a fight. Not for technology, he's probably going for some mickey mouse merch and fighting with a 10 year old for it. He might try to get another pocket knife, but none of them meet his expectations.
◇ Ended up making some kid cry, so he tried to tell them a joke, but it didn't work. So he just walked off. But hey, he has a mickey mouse watched now.
Steve -
He'd definitely put up a fight. He saw some hair gel he's been eyeing that's 80% off? At least two people are getting their noses broken. He wouldn't go for all the big stuff, he isn't interested in a new tv, but he'd definitely tackle someone for a new fridge.
◇ In the end he'd probably punched 17 people and gotten an ass ton of bruises, but hey, now he has a fridge that actually stays cold.

The new comission member
____________________________________________________________
Even tho, Five and I weren't siblings, I can confirm we're closer than most of his siblings. Which was what led them to always be bothering us like we're little teens in love, we may look like teens, but we're not, and we, specially, aren't in love.
But our relationship started to change when we found ourselves in 1963. The pression was higher, the fighting, among all of us, was constant, it was everything too much, that's why I decided I needed some air.
I took a cig out while I walked in front of all the, now closing, stores around the city. It was around 5, the sun was still out, but it was to be soon replaced by the moon, just a few more minutes. A lot of people were walking around at that time, I wasn't so far from home, that's why I wasn't really paying attention to my surroundings.
-"hi!", said a girl with short brown hair in front of me, extending her arms for a hug. I was sure there was someone behind me she was expecting to hold, so I put my head down and continued walking, trying to walk around her.
-"don't be rude, tiffany!", she said grabbing my arm and hugging me by surprise. "it's not nice", her voice sounded like a cartoon, like when you talk to a baby. I soon felt my eyelids fall and my body go numb, I couldn't remember anything after that.
Five's pov
I can't believe she just abandoned me, I'm just trying to fix everything around here. Been doing this for years without resting one day. Maybe I just need to lay down for a bit... no, no time for that.
Y/n's pov
I wake up, tied up obviously. There's no one there in the room with me, it's pretty dark, it was already night time. I don't think any of my moron "siblings", even if they aren't my siblings, are going to notice my disappearance, I'll have to find a way out by myself.
No one else comes into the room for the rest of the night.
Five's pov
Coffee here sucks, but I don't have time to be picky either. I need to work on a way to get a briefcase from the comission. Going back is not an option, maybe the handler is up to a deal today, but first I need to find my partner in those types of missions, where the hell is she?
I checked the entire house and she wasn't there, there was no other place to go for the night, she didn't have money for a hotel... I'm trying to think positive here, I don't see why she wouldn't be okay now.
Y/n's pov
A cold bucket of water is dropped on me to wake me up, that's when I also felt the neckpain of sleeping while sitting. I gasped for some air before focusing on the people in front of me, two ladies, the girl from yesterday... and of course, the handler.
-"Well, well, well. Look who's awake, very good Lila. Now what we prepared"
Her name's Lila, probably my replacement. She nodded and left the room for a bit.
-"You and your partner are not where you belong, alongside with your... very curious pack of siblings"
I just stood silent, not even making eye contact, even if those aren't my siblings. I despise this woman.
-"Not speaking, huh? We'll see what we can do about that", and with that she grabbed me by my chin to make me look at her, tho, it was useless, she was wearing sunglasses, both of them were, very clever.
But having here so close, I couldn't miss my chance, I kicked her as hard as I could, she fell, and her sunglasses too. But she quickly covered hey eyes with her hand. I spotted the sunglasses and crashed them with my boot.
She clicked her tongue.
-"now, that was my mistake", she laughed. "You, as always, are a pain in the ass". And with that Lila joined us again.
-"Mom, are you okay?", she ran next to the handler.
Mom? I thought. She must be stolen.
-"yes, yes, I just don't have my glasses anymore, don't take your off", she stopped her from giving her the other pair, she stood up and got another pair from inside her dress. "you really think you're so smart, don't worry darling, the sooner you start to obey us, the sooner you'll be it"
Five's pov
Luther and Diego are completely useless, they even got Elliot dead at this point. I running out of time, patience and still y/n hasn't come back yet, so add that one to my list of worries. I gotta find her.
Y/n's pov
Lila took out a mirror after some cables were connected to the chair I was sitting on.
-"you know what we want"
-"I'm not falling into the comission's hands again"
-"suit yourself", and with that she pushed a little button that made my entire body feel the electricity coming from the cables they connected. It just lasted a few seconds, but it hurted like hell.
-"you don't have to make this hard for yourself, darling"
Five's pov
I don't even know where to begin. Well, I know she went out for a walk yesterday, but these streets seem very peaceful. I walked the line of stores she probably walked yesterday while inspecting every single person and store. But there wasn't anything unusual. Until I got to the butchery. I just had a gut feeling.
Y/n's pov
I couldn't take it anymore, it was either a shock or getting punched by Lila. I was a mess, I'm starving and I don't know how longer am I gonna stay conscious.
-"Fine...", I whispered.
Lila quickly took the mirror againg, lifting it right at my face. I coughed a few times before focusing. My eyes started to glow.
-"what should I say?"
-"I heard a rumor you obeyed the handler's orders"
I repeated what she said, I don't remember anything after that.
Five's pov
There's no butcher in town now, but there's no y/n either. Where could she possibly go. I don't think she'll just leave us... forever... not me at least... or so I hope.
I came back to the house, I needed to check on my siblings. I entered the house, everything was suspiciously quiet. That's when I noticed a trail of blood that lead upstairs.
-"Diego?" I rushed to check on him, but it was just a doll with a wig. I knew something was really off.
That's when he came out of nowhere. He tried to shot me but I quickly teleported behind him, grabbing him by the throat and making him drop the gun. He was wearing a mask, probably one of Diego's friends. Heturned around and tried to punch me but I grabbed his arm. Teleporting behind him and kicking him to the ground, then pulling his hair and putting a knife to his throat.
-"What do you want from me?"
He didn't say a word. Lifting his hands in surrender, but I had to be cautious.
-"why are you here?"
He grabbed my arm and flipped us, pushing me away from him and making me drop the knife. He kicked me and I fell on a table, he grabbed me from my throat and took his mask off.
-"I heard a ru-", I quickly punched her and she backed away.
-"y/n?!"
She didn't say anything, she ran to me. Jumping and tangling her legs on my shoulders, making us turn, she dropped me to the floor. She grabbed my arm and twisted it, making me scream in pain.
-"Y/n! stop!"
She didn't listen to me, it was like she was possesed. I teleported and hit her on the head, she fell and for a brief second I could saw in her eyes the real y/n. So I hit her again, this time harder.
She fell, she wasn't moving anymore.
-"hope you enjoyed fighting against my new agent"
-"She lost"
-"did she?"
I started to feel a tingling sensation across my body. I blinked a few times and that's when I felt the needle still in my arm.
-"you son of a-"
Handler's pov
I finally got the loving birds together, now I just had to wait for them to wake up to continue with my plan. Those two plus Lila, the comission was going to be unstoppable.

Hey girl!!! Can you tell me more about your oc? I think shes one of my favorite BES ocs but you don't post about her often :( I'd especially like to know about Acharas modern teenage version (like the one you did about Mizu)
OMG HIII😝😝😝😝 So, I don't think so much about modern teenage Achara😞, but I can try a little harder to answer😆 (I'm also glad you liked her!!)
Modern teenage Achara <3
Her parents are divorced, she lives with her father and grandmother, and she met Mizu a few days after moving to a nearby neighborhood. Her father took the motorcycle to the concert, at Eiji's mechanic and Achara accompanied her father, a few days later she went to school and discovered she was Mizu's classmate.
Eiji was talking something to the man, Mizu even tried to pay attention, she understood that he was a new police officer in the city and that he lived nearby. He wanted Eiji to fix his bike. Mizu tried to concentrate on the conversation, but her gaze shifted to a girl next to the man. She must have been her age and about her height, being just a little taller, she was smiling. Mizu's stomach turned and turned. It was strange to have someone of the same age group so close to her. Eiji and the man entered, when Mizu was going to enter the mechanics, her adoptive father spoke to her — Mizu, stay with Achara while Hoshikki and I talk. -her voice rumbled. She nodded as she tried to remember when that girl and her father had introduced themselves, she missed that part. When Mizu got closer to Achara, the strangeness increased. — Mizu, right? - She smiles like a mischievous rabbit. — Yes...Achara right? - Mizu speaks in a low voice, she wasn't used to socializing with other people. Especially when she was someone her age. The girl smiled and nodded positively. - Can we be friends. I live nearby, how old are you? Why do you live here? What is Mr. Eiji yours?- That burst of questions left Mizu stunned.
Achara was considered a very pretty girl at school, but as she hung out with Mizu a lot, boys didn't come near her to flirt, as many thought Mizu was a boy and they were dating.
She loves music, having extensive knowledge of musicals and pop divas.
Even without singing well, Achara had this habit of putting on music and getting on the coffee table or sofa while dancing and singing, using the remote control or the broom as a microphone. Her grandmother is not very pleased with this behavior, saying in a soft voice that she does not behave like a lady
She had average grades, being practically impeccable in grammar and foreign languages and terrible in mathematics and physics. At least she was good at chemistry too.
Achara has her own style, she is not the type of person whose wardrobe fits into just one style. She wears what she likes, even pink or pastel tones always remaining in some way. She really likes miniskirts and customizing clothes, so she learned (at great expense) how to embroider, sew and knit, as it was very difficult to find a piece of clothing that fits her crazy outfits, so she makes them. Her presence in the city's thrift stores is extremely normal.
Her grandmother taught her how to cook, but she only really used this skill when trying to befriend Mizu, trying to win her over with sweets (LMAO😆)
She ties up the bangs of her long black hair with large, colorful barrettes.
Her school bag makes noise when she walks with it. With several keychains and buttons on it
Achara learned how to apply makeup at an early age, finding tutorials on YouTube. She follows many influencers in this field, including some drag queens, which is where she became familiar with the slang of this community.
Achara's hair has slight waves and is very long, she also likes to cut the ends of it when she's bored and she happens to have scissors nearby, leaving her hair chopped up (although not too much, since if her grandma notices she'll get angry). Her hair is also full and voluminous, so it's not as well-behaved as Mizu's.
Finally, Achara has two cats, Sabrina (homage to Sabrina Carpenter) and Gaga (homage to Lady Gaga)
Thanks for reading! and sorry for any spelling mistakes, as I said before, this is not my native language🫶🏻
Sabrinas song that I think Achara would love:

04 ➛ you can run but you can't hide ( 0.9k )
literally everyone's pov LMAO. i thought it was better for this chapter to be laid out this way :D enjoy!!1 im sorry if its not that good
matthew considers himself a quick learner. from when he was hired by his manager, he undoubtedly adjusted to the circumstances of his workplace like a pro. from the customer service language at 'sip & soothe' to the discovering his own style of coffee art which customers adored. he's a natural. customer service is his forté―he had a salesman approach to selling coffee which was distracted by his perfect, loving smile.
of course, he'd pay his respects to his master, zhang hao (for teaching him), who was not a manager but a favourite of the manager.
matthew wasn't a favourite for unknown reasons but he still thinks he's a perfect worker. maybe even more perfect than the manager.
so, as the wintery morning rumbles by, imagine his surprise when after making a lady pay a little more than she should've for her coffee (they had a 'buy one, get one free' for their new menu items until 12pm), when he saw you saunter in, looking around the coffee shop.
there's an obvious break in his face as he tells the customer to have a lovely day while his lovely day chips away.
you start walking towards the counter and matthew's customer smile doesn't budge from his face.
"hi!"
there's a look of recognition in your eyes as you skim matthew's face.
"h-hi."
his smile drops.
"um...it's my first day working here, i'm supposed to start my training in a couple minutes." she explains.
all hell breaks lose.
"oh." matthew replies, trying to smile but sweat mulls in beads over the expansion of his face, "i'll―"
"are you alright, matthew?" hao's voice comes from behind matthew and all he can think is how he can run away from here without it seeming awkward.
"um...can you please take over? i need to do something, i forgot." matthew excuses, dismissively walking off from behind the counter.
he doesn't know where he's going but he's not remaining here with this buried betrayal. and as he walks out from behind the register and out the exit, your gaze follows him, only making it worse.
"i'm sorry, do you mind waiting a little?" hao asks you, tilting his head.
how could you say no?
"of course not, i'm fine waiting."
hao also takes his departure from behind the counter. you begin reading the menu board, trying to memorise some of the drink names as you usually get the same drink every time.
meanwhile, matthew wonders outside the store, away from any windows as to expose him from his internal breakdown.
he can't believe hao lied to him. how could he?
sitting down on the snowy bench, he wonders why he deserved to be lied to.
why didn't he tell me the truth?
it doesn't take long for zhang hao to find him sitting outside, freaking out in the cold.
"matthew." hao calls.
"you lied to me, hyung." matthew says, looking up to his sorry face.
hao waits a beat before replying, knowing he'd be stepping into untouched territories.
"i know. but aren't you happy? your crush is working with you!" hao responds, trying to lighten up the mood with his bright smile.
matthew rolls his eyes, a burden slowly falling onto him, "happy? my crush is working with me after you told her that stupid pickup line."
hao frowns, "i'm sorry, matthew. that was stupid of me, i promise i was just trying to help and not make things worse."
"and, you have, because now she's working with us..."
hao sighs, taking the seat next to matthew, "well, when you put it that way, it kind of sucks."
"kind of?" matthew scoffs.
the cold wasn't helping as it nips their skin, forcing them closer to each other from body warmth as the uniform offers very little of the element.
"hey," hao begins and matthew knows he's going to hear a speech. he braces himself for it, not wanting to be influenced by hao's persuasive language, "you should be excited! even if i told that stupid pickup line, the girl you've been keeping an eye on for months is working with you. she's not working anywhere else, she's working at our store! after this, if you try and get to know her properly, something could happen between the two of you."
why was hao so good at convincing him?
maybe because he was right.
he thinks over the words of wise-hao, understanding that there was truth in them and that sitting here was a waste of time when his crush was inside, waiting to be taught the regularities at 'sip & soothe'.
matthew takes a deep breath and then, jumps up.
he's anew.
"okay, you're right." he replies, "let's go back in before i change my mind."
they go in to find the girl behind the counter, tying her hair up and their brown apron tied up.
matthew's breath hitches.
"the uniform is cute." she tells the manager who walks in just in time.
"i agree...anyways, now that these two are here, it's safe to say that matthew will be training you for you four-hour shift." the manager replies.
matthew tries to run away again (LMAO) but his heels are stuck to the ground and his arms are rigid. on top of that, hao's nails are digging into matthew's wrist.
it's like a warning.
so, matthew does what he's always been good at.
showing off his customer service smile.

Thanks for submitting!

Relationship: Platonic, family
Characters: Mario, Luigi
Warnings: Fluff, fem reader

"Where could she have gone?" Luigi asked Mario in a worried tone, starting to get more and more frightened of all the possible things that have happened to their younger sister or what has already happened.
"She's fine, she couldn't have gone too far." Mario replies, trying to reassure his brother, and if he was being honest, Luigis worriedness was making him even more worried than he should be, but he just kept a calm composure for his brother so they could both remain at ease.
About 15 minutes ago the three of you walked into one of the big department stores that was separated from the small chains and used as an entryway for most shoppers.
It wasn't until the brothers were looking at perfume di they realize how eerily quiet it had gotten, you had been off the walls hyper all day had nonstop been asking questions, picking stuff up off of the shelves, and begging for various items.
Luigi started off the panic, retracing steps hoping your dress had just got caught on something and you were stuck and left behind for them to later find, but yet that was not the case.
At this point they were scanning each and every section of the store, even looking at the ceiling in case you were bitten by a radioactive spider at some point.
Neither of them wanted to call your parents or ask an employee for help, that would make them feel way more helpless than before, they knew this was something they'd never be able to live down.
The boys were reaching their final lap around the store, hoping for some miracle to appear and you be back in their arms again.
When they reached the entrance door again Luigi started overthinking, "What if someone took her? What if we never see her again? I would never be able to live with myself."
"Luigi, it's going to be okay; I promise you she is fine." While Mario was thinking back to everywhere they looked an explaining to Luigi some strategies they could put together to make this process less worrisome the taller brother trailed off.
His eyes going in every direction but his brother, looking at the toddler clothes section that was lined with toys and clothes, once he was about to look back at his brother, he caught a glimpse of those familiar pigtails in the pink satin bows, which he helped put in her hair this morning.
Luigi began speedwalking away from Mario, which turned into running, "Luigi? Where are you going?" Mario yelled after him, but a loud enough yell for customers to be disturbed and have them kicked out.
The both of them almost tripped multiple times trying to make their way over to what they assumed was you,
And thankfully it was.
Luigi collapsed onto his knees to wrap you up in his arms, making sure not to take another moment for granted, Mario huffed out behind him, thanking his brother this once for not paying attention to his rants.
Luigi finally let you go, "Where did you go? You worried us half to death!"
"There was a lady with a nice long dress with pretty hair walking by us, I thought she was a princess, and she could make me one, so i followed her. And I found this toy." You ended off, holding up a doll to show to your brother.
Mario and Luigi both sighed, "If Mulan, Tiana, or Rapunzel were to walk into that door right now you would tell us you want to see them to make you a princess, please don't run off without us knowing, we want to be there to see you become a princess, ever think of that?"
You shook your head, "I'm sorry."
"It's okay, just don't do it again." Mario warned, "Now let's finally go fine a gift for Ma."

"Got no diamond, got no pearl -- Still I think I'm a lucky girl."
x~x~x~x
HPHM Cardverse developed by @ariparri // Read about how Jacob and Duncan met
x~x~x~x
Duncan Ashe was an incredibly driven, ambitious person. It was part of the reason why he'd climbed the ladder at court so fast and earned the position of Jack of Spades while still only a university student of 21. That same year, he brought Jacob Cromwell on as an advisor and technology expert, and the following year, he brought his best friend Coby McQuaid into the fold as well. This second addition in particular had prompted a lot of waves, and before long, Coby had actually been named the new King of Spades himself.
All in all, Duncan was very pleased with how his life at court was shaping up. This was why he was perturbed to find his "right-hand man," Jacob, looking so tired and gloomy that autumn. And to make him all the more perturbed, when Duncan asked him about it, Jacob forced a painful-looking smile on and lied through his teeth.
"Gloomy?" he said. "Aw, nah, I'm fine, Ashe, just...just a little tired is all. But don't worry! I just have to finish this up, and then I can get right to the next prototype..."
Duncan's eyebrows furrowed. "Jacob, your shift's ending in an hour. If you're tired, then maybe you should go home and rest -- "
"Rest? When I'm on a roll?" laughed Jacob. "Nah, I've got to start experimenting on those soil samples tomorrow...and hey, this wind turbine isn't gonna fix itself..."
"Jacob," said Duncan, but Jacob cut him off with another forced smile.
"It's okay, Ashe," he said as reassuringly as he could. "I don't mind staying late to finish...and well, the overtime pay here's great! So it all works out."
The sentiment was familiar enough to Duncan that, very reluctantly, he gave in and let Jacob be. The Jack would still watch Jacob from afar, noting the dark circles that were slowly forming under his blue eyes and the way all trace of a smile would disappear the moment he thought no one could see him, and he grew more concerned by the day.
That concern was sidetracked completely, though, by the very nasty surprise Duncan got, when he accidentally overheard some other courtiers talking.
" -- he's got a sweetheart!"
"Cromwell? No way!"
Duncan stopped mid-step down the hall. His head shot around and he stilled, trying hard to listen.
"It's true!" said the first female voice. "He's been receiving boxes of white flowers and chocolate every day for a week now!"
"From who?" asked the other.
"That's what's so mysterious! I saw one of the packages arrive in his office the other day -- it had no note, no return address...not even a name! Just 'Jacob Cromwell' and his office number, printed on the light blue paper."
Duncan's ears perked up at once. Light blue paper? Only one store he knew of wrapped their packages in that stuff...
Sure enough, the other courtier made the same connection.
"Light blue paper? Only Pique's General Store wraps their stuff up that way!"
"Right! I talked to the gent in the mail room, and he said that he's found one of those such packages on his desk for Jacob at 5:15 PM every day for the last week!"
"How quaint! Then maybe Cromwell really has got some kind of secret admirer..."
"A lady, undoubtedly -- I saw the handwriting on the package, and that kind of penmanship is most assuredly a woman's..."
As their voices came around the corner, Duncan quickly peeled himself back from the wall. Not wanting them to think he'd been eavesdropping, he quickly strolled past the two gossiping girls without even looking at them. Even so, Duncan couldn't ignore the stifled gasps they gave at the sight of him.
"You don't think the Jack heard you?" one asked the other, as Duncan walked that little bit faster down the hall, sliding his hand into his vest pocket at he went.
x~x~x~x
Now, at first, Duncan wanted to confront Jacob about the rumors. Very quickly, though, he decided against it. After all, however much Jacob saw him as a friend, Duncan was his employer, and truthfully, it wasn't Duncan's place to stick his nose into Jacob's personal life. He was perfectly within his rights to date, if he wanted, so long as it didn't interfere with his work...
But that was kind of the sticking thing.
Jacob was entitled to date. He was allowed to do anything he wanted romantically, really -- even if that idiot had somehow turned out to be some sort of Casanova with women on every block, that ultimately was his business and his alone. And yet the thought of Jacob having some squeeze on the side...it was disquieting to Duncan, way more than it should've been.
You hired Jacob to serve as one of your courtiers, Duncan had to remind himself. He's your subordinate. People already think you favor him as it is -- if they had any reason to think you were romantically involved...
Duncan wasn't a naive person. He knew full well how such a thing could be spun, in the public sphere. And with people like Patricia Rakepick looking for any kind of opening to "one up" him, Duncan couldn't risk that.
And so that next day, in the late afternoon, Duncan paid a visit to the mail room. Sure enough, when he arrived, the older gentleman working there had a light blue package set aside for Jacob, accompanied by a bouquet of white hydrangeas.
"Saw Pique's new little shopgirl drop them off, as I came in," said the mail clerk cheerfully. "Poor lass...asked her if she wanted a spot of tea before she left, but she looked to be in a dreadful hurry..."
Duncan cocked his eyebrows as he picked up the package. "Really?"
"Yeah, well, old Pique's always been stingy about how many people he hires," said the mail clerk. "And she was a tiny little thing -- no older than my granddaughter, I think, 13, maybe? I reckon Pique's probably running that girl all over town, dropping off stuff..."
Well, there goes the idea of that girl being Jacob's "secret admirer," thought Duncan. Sounds like she's barely old enough to even think about romance. Still...
"What did the girl look like?" Duncan asked.
"Ginger hair, red lips -- and small, of course. Very small. Probably only five feet or so."
Near Veruca's height, Duncan mentally filed away the information.
"Thank you."
With this, Duncan took the light blue package, placing it under his arm as he headed out.
x~x~x~x
When he brought the package around to Jacob's office, his subordinate's face lit up at the sight of it. He unwrapped the package, and sure enough, it was a box of artisan chocolate.
When Jacob noticed Duncan looking over his "gifts" so critically, though, his smile faded.
"It's not what it looks like," he said immediately, sounding incredibly defensive.
"Oh?" said Duncan, raising an eyebrow.
"I've needed to harvest the flowers' seeds for my experiments," said Jacob with a weak smile. "It's all about the pH of the soil, see -- the hydrangea is a very unique plant -- "
"And the chocolate?" asked Duncan.
Jacob brought a hand through his dark curls uncomfortably.
"...That's just...to try to cheer me up, that's all."
"Cheer you up about what?" Duncan pressed him.
Jacob avoided Duncan's eye. Duncan swept around, trying to force Jacob to look at him.
"Jacob," he said sharply, "if there's someone -- "
Someone else...
Duncan forced himself not to go there. He couldn't confront Jacob's romantic life straight-on: if he did, he was afraid he'd say too much...
"...If there's something going on, you can tell me. You know I can help -- "
"I can do it by myself!" Jacob said in an oddly harsh tone.
Duncan flinched. Something almost stricken seemed to run over Jacob's face -- it made him lose a lot of the color in his face.
"It's fine, Ashe," Jacob said very firmly, putting on that strained smile again. "I've got it under control. I do."
Duncan's eyebrows came together tightly. "Jacob -- "
Jacob seized Duncan's shoulder and squeezed.
"I've got it," he insisted as reassuringly as he could.
Despite saying this, his hand on Duncan's shoulder was shaking.
Duncan's dark eyes flitted down to Jacob's hand on his shoulder, before looking up. They ran over Jacob's strained, pale face critically, taking in how tired the wrinkles around his eyes were...and then narrowed.
Jacob was lying. He was lying right to his face. What Duncan didn't know is whether Jacob knew it as well as he did.
"Fine," said Duncan, more coldly than he meant to.
Sliding out of Jacob's grip, the Jack of Spades turned on his heel and left, his long coat sweeping behind him as he went.
x~x~x~x
The following day, in the midst of work, Duncan went on an unscheduled outing into the capitol. He'd taken off his usual purple and white sash, preferring to go a little bit more "incognito" for the moment, and even took the trolley rather than a private streetcar with a driver.
His destination -- Pique's General Store.
Duncan had only ever been to this store once or twice. It was a store that sold a little bit of everything, from food to flowers to household trinkets, but was best known for its wearable pieces. Many women bought dresses, shoes, and jewelry from Pique's -- even Duncan's father had stopped in here to buy himself a new pocketwatch once, when Duncan was young.
When Duncan entered the store, he found it incredibly busy. The line was nearly out the door, and several of the shoppers seemed rather impatient. This may have been, however, because there was only one person at the register -- a girl with a black ribbon in her ginger ponytail and an apron tied over her second-hand gray dress.
Duncan's eyes narrowed. So this was the shopgirl who'd dropped off that package from Jacob's "secret admirer."
The mail clerk was right -- she was small. Her young, make-upped face indicated she was a teenager -- fifteen or sixteen, perhaps, a few years older than Veruca? -- but her petite height definitely made her look younger. Despite this, though, she zipped around behind the counter, fetching various goods and ringing up what the customers brought to the register. At several points she had to dart up the ladder leaning against the back shelf to pick out specialty items for a customer, sweeping back down to the floor with the grace of a chubby little robin landing after a flight. And all the while, even as the whole shop rumbled with the mutters of grumpy customers, she kept on a pretty, lady-like expression: not smiling, exactly, but nonplussed and grounded. This affect didn't shift even when one customer started berating her for making her wait fifteen whole minutes for service: instead, the small girl faced her with astounding patience.
"I apologize for the wait, ma'am," she said.
"I'm sure you do," the older woman sneered sarcastically.
The shopgirl didn't rise to the taunt. Instead she rang up the woman's total.
"That'll be a hundred, altogether."
The woman reacted with anger. "A hundred? The sign on the window said 'sale!'"
"The 'sale' items are marked in that far corner, with blue marks on their tags," the shopgirl explained. "I'm afraid only two out of your ten items have those marks."
"That is not what it said on the sign!" the older woman shot back angrily.
"The 'sale' corner has the exact same sign as the window does," said the shopgirl calmly. "If you'd like, I can put what you don't want back where they belong. Or if you want them all, but can't afford them right now, I can always put some of them on layaway for you."
The older woman looked so affronted, she looked close to literally clutching the pearls around her neck.
"How dare -- this is outrageous! I demand to speak to Mr. Pique this instant!"
"I'm afraid Mr. Pique is on a coffee break," said the shopgirl, "but if you wish to speak to him, then you can come back in twenty minutes. He should be back by then."
"I'm not leaving until I see Mr. Pique!" the older woman shouted.
The shopgirl's pale face hardened.
"All right," she said lowly. "Then stand off to the side, while I help these people behind you."
She immediately turned her attention to the man waiting behind the woman in line.
"Bring your things here, sir," the girl said more gently.
The man, with a faintly stunned look at the woman in front of him, hesitantly approached the counter with the bottle of whiskey and bag of candy he'd purchased. The woman in front of him looked outraged.
"Excuse me!" she shrieked. "I am your customer -- "
"And so are they," the shopgirl cut her off.
The girl's voice was very quiet, but it sounded so authoritative that she suddenly sounded much older and stronger than she looked.
"You complained about waiting fifteen minutes for my assistance," the shopgirl said coldly. "I'm not going to have all these people wait longer, simply because you no longer want that assistance. If you want Mr. Pique to speak to you, then he can speak to you after he has had something to eat, as I'm sure you will, once you've finished your shopping for the day. And hopefully you'll treat him with more respect than you have me."
The older woman started to redden as red as a tomato, her whole face puffing up like an angry fish.
"You -- !" she spluttered furiously. "You -- low-class, uppity little tramp -- !"
"And now you're disrespecting my other customers, by making a scene," the shopgirl said in that very soft, but pointed voice. "Either wait for Mr. Pique outside, or have a lovely day elsewhere."
The older woman spluttered some more nastier swears under her breath. Then, whirling around to look at all of the other stunned customers, she pushed right through the crowd and out the door of the shop, leaving all of her things strewn about the counter.
"That's it!" she raged. "I'm done!" She paused in the doorframe just long enough to add, "You may tell Mr. Pique that he has just lost himself a loyal customer -- !"
"Thank you," the shopgirl cut her off with great finality.
This only seemed to make the woman even madder as she stormed out, slamming the door shut behind her.
"I have never been treated thusly in my entire life -- !" could just barely be heard through the closed door.
Duncan watched her go, his lips spreading into a broad smirk despite himself.
Not bad, he thought as he glanced back at the shopgirl as she addressed the man who'd been behind the difficult customer in line.
"I'm very sorry about that," she said kindly. "And about the wait..."
"Oh, no, it -- was no trouble," said the man. He cleared his throat, clearly still a bit uncomfortable about what he'd just witnessed. "Ahem...I'm just sorry a little thing like you had to deal with that all by yourself..."
"It's no trouble," said the shopgirl, her red lips forcing a smile. "I've got it."
Duncan stilled. His smirk faded from his face as he stared at the shopgirl with a clarity he hadn't had until just that moment.
That strained smile...that pale face, that modest height...those almond-shaped blue eyes...
Those eyes...were Jacob's eyes.
Duncan felt like his heart had leapt up into his throat.
Carewyn. The shopgirl who'd delivered all those anonymous packages was Carewyn Cromwell -- Jacob's little sister.
Since when did Jacob's little sister have a job? She had to be so young still -- right around Veruca's age, Duncan thought. That would be way too young to be working a job like this... Was Jacob's family really that bad off that Carewyn had had to drop out of school too, to support her family?
Duncan suddenly felt like his heart was being squeezed.
Was this why Jacob had been so depressed? Because his little sister had had to give up on her academic future, the way Jacob had his...?
"Is there anything I can help you with, sir?"
Duncan was startled by the sound of an older, portly gentleman coming in through the door, putting out a cigar on the door frame as he entered.
"Ah...yes," Duncan said after he'd recovered. "You'd be Mr. Pique, I suppose? I thought you were out for a coffee break."
"Oh, I am," said Pique gruffly. "My thirty minutes isn't up quite yet...but I thought I'd just check in on my new little lady -- wasn't sure how she'd do behind the desk all by herself..."
His rough face broke into a fonder smile when he saw Carewyn quickly ringing up one customer's totals while adding another's by hand on a spare piece of paper, so as to cut the line down faster.
"But it seems I needn't have worried," he said, his smile becoming a bit more crooked. "I knew she'd be good help, the moment I met her."
"She is a bit young to be working here, isn't she?" asked Duncan.
"A bit, yes -- lass isn't going to be fifteen until September," said Pique.
"Then she's fourteen?" recurred Duncan.
She really was right around Veruca's age. The thought of Coby's sister working a full-time customer service job with people yelling at her for nothing made Duncan feel nauseous.
"Yes, I usually don't hire until at least sixteen," Pique said with a shrug. "But she fought hard to get this job, even just part-time. Said she'd need to save up some money, if she was going to be able to attend university..."
Duncan's heart leapt. "University?"
Then Carewyn hadn't dropped out?
"Yeah!" said Pique with a barking laugh. "I gather her family's financial state isn't so great. Her brother works for the Jack of Spades, so I hear, so he earns good money...but I reckon my little lady doesn't want him spending his pay on her future, when he's had to work so hard as it is. And well, I'm sure that boy would want to move into his own place and settle down with someone nice, at some point, not just stay at home with his folks forever..."
Duncan found himself tuning out as Pique rambled on a bit longer, only because his brain and heart were both turning with this new information.
The Cromwells weren't in financial trouble. Carewyn hadn't had to get a job to save her family, like Jacob did. She'd done it to pay for her education, so that Jacob wouldn't have to. She'd decided to work part-time, while still going to school...
...Kind of like Duncan had...working under the previous Jack while he was at university...
Duncan looked back up at Carewyn behind the counter. Her line of customers was almost completely gone now, leaving only a young man with a very dorky bow tie fumbling through his wallet for exact change.
"I can count it out for you, if you'd like," Carewyn offered.
"Th-thank you," the young man said with an uncomfortable smile. "I-I guess I'm just a little frazzled..."
Carewyn very quickly counted out exact change on the counter. Then, after scooping up the rest of the coins and returning it to the man's wallet, she handed a rather pretty light blue-wrapped box with a white ribbon to him.
"Here," Carewyn said with an encouraging smile. "I hope she likes it."
The young man's face burst into a blush, but he nonetheless smiled, encouraged. "Thank you!"
With a little wave, the young man left the shop. Carewyn likewise waved as he left, before sighing heavily, clearly relieved that the long line was gone.
"Well done, Carewyn!" said Pique jovially as he strode up to the counter, clapping her hard enough on the back that the much smaller girl winced. "Quite well done, indeed! I knew I was right to take you on..."
Carewyn put on her best smile. "Thank you..."
Then she immediately frowned as she gathered up the hats and dresses the difficult customer had left strewn on the counter.
"...But sir, your break isn't over until 4:30 -- "
"I'm still on break, I'm just not 'breaking,'" Pique said brusquely.
"Put on the brakes now, or you might break down later," Carewyn warned the man concernedly as she put the hats back on the proper mannequins.
But Pique waved this off. "I'll brew up some coffee and drink a cup before ringing anyone else up. Why don't you go take your lunch break a little early? You've worked hard enough."
Carewyn hesitated. "Are you sure? I can work until your break is over -- "
"Nonsense!" said Pique. "I passed around some fliers advertising the sale during my walk, so we'll undoubtedly have another rush of shoppers this evening, after people get off work. You go on ahead for now and get something to eat -- I'll have plenty of work for you to do when you get back."
Not looking entirely convinced, Carewyn nonetheless did as her employer said, putting the rest of the dresses away before heading back to the counter. She took off her apron, hanging it up on a nail on the side, and then headed to the backroom. Duncan lingered in the store, watching, as a minute later, Carewyn came bustling back out, a light-blue package under her arm.
Duncan's eyes widened in realization. Then the packages weren't being delivered on behalf of some secret admirer -- they'd all been from Carewyn herself!
"I'll be right back!" Carewyn said, as she darted across the store to the door.
"Be back in thirty minutes on the dot!" Pique called after her.
Just as the door would've closed, though, Duncan grabbed it and left the shop after Carewyn.
x~x~x~x
The Jack followed Carewyn out of the general store and then to the trolley stop. He climbed onto it right after her, and upon catching sight of her moving toward the very back left corner of the car, he moved after her, taking a seat right beside her.
Duncan sneaked a covert glance at the girl out the side of his eye.
She really didn't resemble Jacob at all...did Carewyn take more after her mother, while Jacob took after their father, or vice-versa? If it weren't for their identical eyes, Duncan would've been tempted to think they didn't share blood.
"Why did you follow me?"
Duncan blinked. Carewyn hadn't even looked up, when she asked this. Instead she looked out the window on the other side of her.
"I saw you standing at the back of the general store," she said lowly. "You didn't browse through any of the inventory or even get in line. All you did was watch me work and then talk to Mr. Pique when he came in."
Her blue eyes narrowed upon Duncan's reflection.
"...What do you want?"
Her eyes may have been colored and shaped like Jacob's...but in that moment, so sharp and piercing and full of distrust, Duncan was almost reminded more of Patricia Rakepick's.
Duncan's surprise melted away into something more serious.
"I came to talk to you, actually," he said.
Carewyn raised her eyebrows.
"Recently my subordinate has been getting a lot of...mysterious packages, delivered by a shopgirl with ginger hair," said Duncan. His eyes flitted down to the light blue package in Carewyn's lap. "No name, no note -- no return address...but all in Pique's distinct light blue paper."
Carewyn's eyes grew a little bit smaller.
"...And this 'subordinate' of yours...?"
"Jacob Cromwell is his name," said Duncan. His lips curled up in a small smirk. "Your brother, if I'm not mistaken."
Carewyn turned around to look at Duncan properly, her eyes very wide. Then something in the back of them brightened.
"...Ashe," she breathed through a smile. "You're Duncan Ashe!"
Duncan's smirk broadened. "You've heard of me?"
"Of course!" said Carewyn. "Jacob's told Mum and me all about you."
Duncan's heart fluttered. Jacob had told his family about him...?
"...Has he?" he asked softly.
"Well, he talks about you a lot," said Carewyn, and she had to stifle a giggle behind her hand. "If either Mum or I ask after you, he'll ramble on and on until he's completely run out of breath."
Duncan gave a cynical laugh. "Well, give Jacob just about any subject, and I daresay he'll do the same thing..."
Despite saying this, though, Duncan couldn't mask the light, happy flush painting his face, nor could he deny how warm he felt, thinking of Jacob rambling on about him to someone. Did he talk about his intellect, his cleverness -- his ambition -- his looks, how well he dressed? Surely not -- Jacob was an absolute idiot when it came to picking clothes for himself, Duncan had had to pick out something proper for him to wear to court...but maybe Jacob appreciated how Duncan dressed, despite this? Duncan wished his mind wasn't dancing so giddily with such fancies.
Carewyn's eyes softened.
"Really, though," she said more gently, "Jacob is so grateful for everything you've done for him. And I am too."
Duncan avoided Carewyn's eye. "Well, it's...nothing Jacob didn't earn, really. He's got a brilliant mind -- someone else would've seen it, even if I hadn't..."
Rakepick would've snatched Jacob up in a second, if she could've, Duncan thought, a surge of dislike pulsing through him at the thought of the Ace keenly parsing over one of Jacob's blueprints.
Carewyn shook her head. "But that's just it. My brother is brilliant -- he's always been brilliant -- but so many people have never seen it."
Her gaze drifted back out the window.
"...I was too little to remember all of this, but...when Jacob was young, he was bullied, for being interested in things. Even sometimes for not being interested in other things, like sports, or clubs, or parties. He was beaten down and ignored...and whenever he'd lose his temper or try to fight back, he'd get in trouble for it. Soon the only thing anyone ever saw of Jacob was his misbehavior -- our dad, included."
Duncan stared at Carewyn's reflection in the glass. Her face looked almost heartbroken, thinking this -- as if just recounting what her brother went through physically injured her.
"Jacob tried really hard to be better after I came along, and especially after Dad left us," she said softly. "He had to help Mum look after me...so he worked really hard, for a really long time. He dropped out of school, gave up a lot of dreams...all to try to make sure we had a roof over our heads. And eventually...all anyone ever saw of Jacob was that he was useful. That he could do things they could use for their business -- that he could fix things, or cook things, or file things, and do it all perfectly. They weren't looking for him to talk, or explain, or share, or teach, or think -- they just wanted him to do."
Duncan found his own eyes drifting through the window now, barely seeing either Carewyn's or his reflections now. In his mind's eye, he could see Jacob fixing the trolley door through another window, on another trolley -- see the muscles in his arm flexing -- seeing him smile so brightly --
"Your brother likes being useful," Duncan said softly.
"Of course he does," said Carewyn. "He always has. But that doesn't mean that's all he is."
She turned to smile at Duncan. "That's why I'm grateful you brought him to court. I know Jacob feels useful to you, but not just because of what he can do. You value his ideas -- his hopes and dreams. His drive to challenge the status quo...to shake things up and do real good for people. His passion and his aspirations for a better future. His brain and his heart."
Her blue eyes sparkled as her smile softened.
"Jacob's happy there, with you," she murmured. "Happier than he ever was at those other jobs. He wasn't unhappy, exactly -- those bosses did appreciate what he gave them, and those jobs did help him support us...but, well..."
Her eyes fell down to her hands in her lap.
"...They only wanted one small piece of Jacob. You...want all of him."
Duncan felt his face darkening with a redder flush. He quickly looked away, trying to hide it by covering his mouth, cheek, and chin with his whole hand.
"Well...um..."
Duncan felt very flustered, and he really didn't like it. He shot a look at Carewyn -- fortunately she too still had her eyes averted to her hands in her lap.
He swallowed, trying to recollect himself. When he finally did, his voice came out a bit strained.
"...I...I do want Jacob here," he said lowly. "He's...very special."
To me.
Refusing to let those words leak out, Duncan forced himself to get back to business.
"...He...said that you sent those packages to cheer him up."
Carewyn smiled a bit uncomfortably, her eyes drifting back out the window.
"...Yeah...Jacob's been pretty upset that I took a job too, around my schooling. He said he didn't want me to have to work -- that he'd work twice as hard, so I wouldn't have to...but I can't do that to him. Jacob and Mum have provided for me my whole life...it's my turn to help them, now."
Duncan's eyes betrayed concern. "Is it still so difficult for you? I thought with Jacob's higher salary -- "
"We're not struggling," Carewyn said earnestly. "But well, Jacob and I have still had to share a room my entire life. Jacob needs space. We both do. He needs an office -- a place where he can work on projects outside of work. I need a real closet where I can organize my clothes properly, so I don't have Jacob pairing my socks with his by accident."
She actually pursed her lips a bit, giving off something of a haughty expression. It made Duncan bite back a snort of laughter.
"Jacob's good at earning money and doing without on things, but not budgeting."
"And there is a big difference," said Duncan.
Carewyn nodded. "So Mum and I have been looking at the long-term...and what's holding us back from buying a bigger place is saving up enough for me to afford books and tuition. Jacob wants to just stay where we are and pay for me to go to university...but I don't want that for him. I don't want him to have to do without anymore, when I can help him now. And I wish he wouldn't work so much overtime to try to persuade me otherwise!"
This came out a bit frustrated, despite Carewyn's seemingly best efforts. She looked almost guilty, expressing such emotion in front of Duncan.
"...I'm sorry," she said lowly. "I...know you're Jacob's friend, so I thought I should explain."
"You don't need to apologize," Duncan said at once.
Carewyn still looked a bit uncomfortable.
"Please don't tell Jacob I told you all this," she said quietly. "I know Jacob esteems you...he wouldn't want you to see him as unable to do something."
Something stirred in Duncan's memory.
"I can do it by myself!"
"It's fine, Ashe. I've got it under control. I do."
Then that was it. Jacob hadn't just been lying to Duncan -- he'd been too proud to even accept things as they were himself...too proud to acknowledge he couldn't carry the world all by himself...
Duncan's brows and lips both knit together tightly.
"What I see him as is a complete idiot," he said dryly.
The Jack pulled down on the trolley string to make it stop outside the Palace of Spades. As he got up, Duncan extended a hand to Carewyn as if to help her up.
"Now, then -- Jacob's lab is on the far end, so we'll have to walk briskly, if we're going to deliver your care package to him. I'll need to drive you back in my personal car afterward, if you're going to have any decent time to eat before returning to work..."
Carewyn flushed. "That's all right -- I don't need anyth -- "
"Let me guess -- you've been skipping out on meals, just to bring these packages to your brother on your breaks," Duncan cut her off.
Carewyn shot him a glare through her blush. "There's always something to eat quickly at home -- I can more than manage until then..."
Duncan brought a hand up to his face and shook his head.
"Well, now I see sacrificing for your loved ones is something of a family trait, for you Cromwells. Ugh -- come on, then -- we're picking up your brother, dropping off his chocolates in the lab, and then driving somewhere for a proper meal. Shut your mouth right now and don't bother taking out any money, I won't hear any arguments from you or your brother about it."
x~x~x~x
Despite the sourness he'd spoken with, Duncan still kept his eye trained behind him to make sure Carewyn was keeping up with his longer strides, as he strolled quickly down the hall. And when Jacob looked up to find Carewyn in his lab and practically leapt out of his seat, throwing his arms around her and squeezing her tight as he beamed so happily over her shoulder at Duncan, the Jack of Spades couldn't have possibly obscured the soft, contented rosiness of his face as he watched them.
Jacob did in fact try to argue with Duncan about paying for their supper in full -- and Duncan scolded him just as much as he had Carewyn.
"Don't argue with me, I'm your boss. And no more of these little package deliveries, to cheer you up -- the next time Carewyn wants to bring you something, I intend for her to bring it to you when she's off from work and school, on formal visits..."
Jacob's eyes widened.
"Formal visits?" he repeated, disbelieving. "You mean...Wyn can come see me here, at the Palace?"
Carewyn looked just as stunned herself. "Duncan, you -- you don't have to do that -- "
"I know I don't," Duncan said, averting his eyes uncomfortably, "but I'm doing it. I give my permission -- Carewyn can come whenever she wants."
Jacob and Carewyn both stared. It made Duncan's flush creep up his neck all the more.
"Just as long as you don't get distracted, Jacob," Duncan added, his voice becoming a bit more strained in its defensiveness. "After all, you'll still be at work and earning pay -- it's just easier than making Carewyn use up her break times. And Carewyn seems responsible enough that she won't keep you from your work. Plus it'll quiet a lot of the unnecessary gossip around court about you having a sweetheart sending you packages..."
Jacob's mouth fell open. "What? Oh, come on, Ashe, I told you it wasn't like that -- !"
But Carewyn disregarded this completely. Instead she got up and, opening her arms, gave Duncan a hug.
The gesture made Duncan stiffen, taken aback, and she immediately withdrew, looking a bit guilty.
"I'm sorry," she said quickly, even though she couldn't keep the smile off her face. "It's just...thank you, Duncan. I've never been inside the Palace before, aside from the mail room, and seeing where Jacob's working..."
Her eyes sparkled like gems.
"... Your invitation...it's very generous," she whispered. "Thank you."
Duncan hadn't thought he could go any redder, but somehow he was. Coby would probably be comparing him to a tomato by now.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat awkwardly as he looked away. "...You're welcome."
He glanced at Carewyn out the side of his eye, to see her smiling sympathetically. Maybe she sensed his discomfort -- or maybe, being far more insightful about people than Jacob, she sensed what really fueled it: that stifled, hidden desire to make her brother happy.
Either way, Duncan found himself smiling a bit too, as he looked back at her.
Maybe Carewyn wasn't Jacob's sweetheart...but she did have a very sweet heart, all the same.

Goodnight Story #5
[plain text: "Goodnight Story #5" Bigger and in cursive text /end pt]
It's one of those rare days. All of Kyoya's subordinates are busy with orders and chores, so shopping falls on him. Now this rarely happens, because he would really prefer avoiding crowds, but they desperately need food, cleaning supplies, bandages and more rubbing alcohol.
So Kyoya bites the bullet, puts on some regular clothes, grabs his shopping basket, pockets his wallet and leaves the mansion. He goes by foot, because the weather is nice and he'd wanted to check out the rooftops anyways.
Nothing is going on. There isn't even the odd mugging, so Kyoya truly has no excuses by the time he reaches the shopping district. He sighs heavily, jumps down onto the street and quickly slips into the nearest store, just to dodge Yua's, whom is out patrolling. Just as Kyoya told her.
It's just... she wouldn't recognize him immediately in these clothes. So she'd try to punish him for parkouring around, which would be very awkward. Because she'd immediately be apologetic and then everyone would be staring at them and.... It'd just feel odd.
Kyoya shakes the thought out of his head, takes a look at the shopping list Tetsu wrote and goes about the store. He gradually collects everything on the list, even buying some tea and sweets that weren't listed, because he knows they'll be running low again soon.
Then he takes the stuff to the cashier, pays what he owes and goes to leave with a very brief goodbye. Of course it can't be that simple. The cashier recognizes him just in time to make trouble. The middle aged lady practically beams at him. "Oh! Hibari-kun- I didn't recognize you for a second."
Kyoya gives the lady a flat stare and it does nothing to dampen her mood. Even his disinterested voice does no damage to this herbivore's sudden, bright mood. "That's the point of not wearing my uniform."
The lady laughs and grabs ahold of his basket, pulling at it with her smile turning strained. She still sounds bright and there is nothing hostile about her, which is just his luck, honestly.... There is no plausible deniability to be found here. "Come here. You get a discount for that-"
Kyoya doesn't budge, feeling somewhat flattered, but really he's more uncomfortable with the other herbivores staring like they're starting to. So he twists his basket out of the lady's grasp and waves her offer away. "No. Maybe next time."
The lady makes a noise a bit like a whimper, barely stopping herself from stomping her foot like a petulant child. Herbivores are very strange sometimes. These ones especially. "Okay but you've got to actually take it next time-Ah, have a nice day!"
Kyoya hums something like a response, quickly leaving that store and walking to the nearest pharmacy. Two people almost collide with him as he walks, yet still by the time he reaches the pharmacy, his hands are barely shaking. Okay. He can do this...
Luckily the pharmacy isn't very crowded and the pharmacist he pays does not recognize him at all. He manages to leave that building without further incident, but next on his list... The farmer's market. He's been dreading this one the most...
It's absurdly crowded and noisy and the moment Kyoya goes within earshot, he actually flinches. Why do they always have to shout like that?! Goddamn...
Kyoya shakes his head and tries his best to focus on the list instead. He finds a path through the crowd to buy what is written down. And for a while that goes... Fine. He's not feeling okay, but it's fine.
But then a godforbid familiar voice calls out to him and the sweet old lady from the bakery down the street practically hunts him down. She beams at him too, but it's hard to focus on that with so many people moving around them. "Kyoya-kun! Oh it's been ages! How have you been, sweetie?"
Kyoya clenches his hands to the handle of his basket, trying his absolute best to focus. He is not okay, but that's not how this social interaction is supposed to go, right? How does it go again-? Wait-Yes! He does remember! "I'm fine. And you?"
The sweet herbivore, Kamei-san if he remembers right, immediately starts telling him some kind of story of what happened in the bakery the other day. Kyoya barely listens to her, because everyone around him is talking and its incredibly distracting.
Someone mentions his name a few paces behind him, but they're talking about another Kyoya, because that's a common name. It still makes him frown and look. And then Kamei-san knows what's up. She immediately seems very apologetic and Kyoya doesn't really listen anymore. "Oh dear-I forgot you dislike the market. Come on, there's a more quiet spot over here."
Kyoya shakes his head, clenching and unclenching his hands a bit, because he wants to feel the comfort of steel right there. Preferably as he drives his tonfa into someone's stomach. He can't attack anyone unprompted here though. That would cause a mass panic. Which is messy to clean up to say the least!
Kamei-san reaches out to grab his arm so he takes a step back, shaking his head faintly and easily rejecting whatever she was trying to do. "No thanks. Goodbye."
Kyoya doesn't even turn around, he just walks past Kamei-san, shoving past some people, so he can break into a sprint when there is a bit less crowding. Some people shout things after him, but he is very much just trying to get the hell away from that suffocating place.
He can breathe easier again when he ends up on the nearest rooftop, far away from the crowding and most of the noise. After a second, he checks his list again and shrugs off the last few items he didn't get. Someone else will have to find the time to buy those, because he is going home. Right now.
.... Gods he's exhausted. It's really time for a good nap. But first he goes home and puts the shopping he did do away. Tetsuya is overjoyed to see him back, but Kyoya shoves past him too. He needs to go be in his much more quiet and peaceful room...
Kyoya really hates shopping... But he did his best today. And nobody got hurt! That's worth something, right?

Just want to send you guys little moments that have happened in the last few days that for sure wouldn’t have without qaf. Just in case if you guys thought that maybe he has even one normal day/moment in his life. I am here to show you that you’re wrong. Anyway:
Our mom called him like 4 times which he didn’t answer. Finally when he called her back, she asked why didn’t he answer before to which he said ‘sorry mom, i was playing with Brian’ and my mom went dead silent and had the most scared look on her face and then just slowly went ‘please, please say you mean the cat.’
He went on a walk with the neighbor that watched qaf and he mentioned to him that he saw Gale on Criminal Minds. And the guy, i guess told him that Gale was on Desperate Housewives and the next thing I see out the window is a grown man trying to speed walk back home. And he barges in and goes ‘we gotta watch Desperate Housewives! Right now! Brian is there!’ And when I told him that he’s only in a few episodes in a later season, he went ‘fuck. So now I gotta watch that whole thing for a bit of Brian? That’s rude but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do’ so now he put DH on his watch list next.
Then he had a call with his therapist and I don’t know what they talked about but whatever it was, it lead to him bursting into my room going ‘do YOU think Brian would fuck me if given the chance?’ We got into an argument because I refused to answer. I mean what do i even say to that? But also i want to know what he asked his therapist with the way he emphasized the word ‘you’.
I was in a “meeting” (more like a catch up) like 2 days ago with my boss and a coworker (who thankfully have met my brother and are both cool) when this dude burst into my office to ask ‘when do you think Brian fell in love?’ He thinks it was before prom, he can’t make his mind up between 1x16, 1x18 or 1x20 he wants to say it was sooner but he doesn’t think so. But he thinks prom solidified it, which btw he said all that while still in the room and then when he noticed my laptop, he very, very slowly walked backwards and closed the door behind him.
Then I went to our local store (it’s like a tiny corner store or whatever) and when I was at the check out ready to pay, the guy working there goes ‘hey, i thought you only had one brother?’ And i confirm that yes, i onky got one, thank god. And then he goes ‘so who the fuck are Brian and Justin?’ And i felt like a deer caught in headlights. Turns out he’s been talking about them like they’re normal people, so the poor guy thought Justin was our little brother and Brian is his boyfriend/my brothers friend.
And my all time favorite one this week was the one that even made our mom laugh so hard she cried: an old lady that went to PT with him (after pt they have him on like some lasers or whatever to help the pain, so he’s laying on one of the beds and she’s on the other) she has heard him talk about Brian to the nurse(!!!) so many times that she actually thought Brian was his boyfriend. And he didn’t even realize it until she left her last session yesterday and before she left she went ‘sweetheart, leave that man, you deserve much better than what he gives you plus by the sound of it, he’s still hung up on his ex’ and my dumb brother sighed and went ‘yeah, i know- wait what’ and she waved and left. He couldn’t figure out if he gave off a certain vibe or was it how he talked/moved and she was just being a little ignorant about it or if all this Brian talk made an old lady think he’s gay. And when I didn’t answer bc idk what to say, he got into an argument with me again because and I quote ‘how dare you not know if I’m gay or not to other people.’ Oh and he texted our mom ‘do I seem gay?’ But he fucked up and wrote ‘seam’ so it changed the whole thing to ‘Am i gay?’ Mom’s response was ‘i don’t know hunny, maybe. Who knows at this point anymore’ it took him TWO HOURS to realize the typo/autocorrect and by then it was too late to fix it so he just gave up.
So i’d say living with my brother at the hight of his Qaf obsession has been going great.
Dear sweet anon! This has made me laugh so hard. Your brother is really in the mix of it all, isn't he?
my mom went dead silent and had the most scared look on her face and then just slowly went ‘please, please say you mean the cat.’ LOL. Because let's not have an adult man with a new imaginary friend who's a character on a long ago TV show.
I am so terrified of what he asked his therapist. I wish your brother was my client because I would just discuss the show for a session and get paid but now I'm imagining this happening to a therapist who has never seen QAF and how confusing it must be and how this therapist is probably consulting with other therapists to figure out how much to indulge this. (Btw has QAF come up in my own therapy? Yes, yes it has.)
As for when Brian fell in love - that is such a good question. I think I had an anon who asked me that. I think there's a meta post in your brother that is dying to be posted to tumblr.
Also everyone thinking Brian and Justin are other brothers or your brother's boyfriend or... the fact that your brother is not prefacing all of this with "this is a tv show and these are characters on the show" is just fandom brain. And it's hilarious. And the little old lady telling him to leave Brian? DEAD.
Mom’s response was ‘i don’t know hunny, maybe. Who knows at this point anymore’ is a great response to "am I gay" but also brother not realizing the typo/autocorrect is killing me.
You are a saint. Thank you for your service. This is incredible.

SERIES MASTERLIST next chapter
chapter one.
Don't you ever wish you could just stuff a sock up someone's throat?
The one time you are in the library to ACTUALLY study is the one time those stupid group of seniors also came to "study." You rolled your eyes and went back to your math textbook.
You bet they felt the glares you threw towards them, due to the fact that they purposely moved from their previous table to sitting literally right next to you.
And just as fast as they sat down, you closed your book and walked right out. You would've stayed just for the fun of seeing fumes come out of their ears, but you were in need for a break. You had been in that library for about 2 hours, although majority of that time was wasted on watching youtube instead of studying.
As you walked out, you checked the time and was greeted with pure sun punching you in the face. You automatically put your hand up and slightly squinted.
For God's sake, it's not even summer.
sighing, you continued to walk to the nearest convenience store. Sweat inched down your face as you thought about how badly you needed banana milk.
The familiar ring went off when you opened the small door into the store. The sweet smell of coconut rushing to your nose when you breathed in. Without hesitation you walked straight to the fridge where the milk is kept, scanning the area and smiled when finding out that there was only a single tube of banana milk, with your name written all over it. You reached out towards it, before rudely having it taken by some idiot beside you.
"Hey! Excuse you, that's mine." You looked up at the guy and pointed at the banana milk, which was in his hands. His brown eyes gazed down at you. He was wearing a white headband that suited his soft-looking raven hair, It reminded you of your grandma's brownies for some reason. Brownie boy looked down at it and chuckled.
"Well, it happens to be in my hand, making it mine." He smirks as he shakes his palm that holds the milk. You scoff and crossed your arms.
"If I handed you my tampon would you call it yours?" You raised your eyebrows, copying his smirk.
"How are your tampons even related to this? Are you on your monthly or something?"
"I- What? That's not the point! Give me back my banana milk you thief." You demanded and stuck out your hand for him to hand it over. He glanced at your hand as he licked his lips. "I grabbed it first." He wiggled the milk in front of you.
"Well I saw it first. Now give it." You gestured to the milk. But instead of giving back the milk, he suddenly squinted his eyes as his gaze went behind you. You furrowed your eyebrows at the sudden movement.
"Woah, is that Jennifer Lawrence?" Brownie boy pointed. For some stupid reason you believed the guy and turned your head as soon as he said that, only to see an old lady sniffing a box of cheerios. When you looked back at Brownie to punch him, his presence was no longer there.
"Hey! Get back here!" You ran to the front and saw Brownie in line to pay. Right as you were about to grab his shirt and give him what he deserved, he had already payed and flew out the store.
You clenched your fist and swiftly got out of the store while knocking a few people to the side like bowling pins. You ran out of energy trying to catch up to this guy. "Yo Brownie!" You shouted while panting, resting your hands on your knees. He stopped running and turned around from where he stood and subtly laughed, crinkling his eyes . "You owe me a banana milk!"
"Deal!" He yelled back, "You owe me a strawberry milk then!" You raised your eyebrows in confusion.
"Ha! Why do I?"
"Because you made me late for my movie marathon!"
"What do you want." Yeonjun rolled his eyes, sarcastically turning the page of a magazine he was reading. His younger cousin strolled into the store and examined the counter before glancing up at him.
"I stubbed my toe." You said, plopping herself on the chair in front of him. He scoffed as he closed his magazine. "On what?"
"life."
"Didn't you get a paper cut yesterday?" He queried and you nodded. "Yeah, from the Lexicon of pain and confusion."
"Your teacher would not be impressed with you calling your math textbook that." Yeonjun replied back. You shrugged your shoulders in reponse before grabbing the textbook from your bag and opening it back up from the page you were on before. You grumbled when you read the first sentence, already not understanding what was happening.
I can't concentrate like this. I need my banana milk. she thought.
You turned your head around to see if there was any banana milk in the fridge in the distant aisle. "You still have no banana milk?"
"Nope. The shipment was delayed, it won't arrive until Monday."
"Monday? How can I concentrate on studying then?" You widened your eyes.
"Life's unfair, grow up idiot." He lightly slapped your arm. You huffed before resting your head on your palm.
"I would have had banana milk if it wasn't for that dumb brownie. He stole my banana milk." You complained, recalling the horrible incident. He stifled a laugh at the name 'brownie.'
"What you want me to do about it, find the kid and ask him to give it back to my cousin who acts like a toddler?"
"Shut it." You warned him and pointed her index finger in his face.
He gazed down at your hand and chuckled. "You know, there is another store across the street."
"Already checked. They had nothing." You shook your head. Yeonjun bent down and lifted a box up, placing it on the counter.
"Well then, guess you will have to live on melon milk until Monday." He said, grabbing a tube and tossing it to you.
You faked a smile and poked a hole through the thin cap. Surprisingly, this was your first time trying melon milk, and it was definitely the last. You grimaced at the unwelcoming taste as the toxic liquid entered your mouth.
"This is absolutely disgusting." You pushed the tube away. "More for me then." Yeonjun grinned and he took a sip. You glared at him before sighing.
"Anyway, you should get going." You tilted your head in confusion. "But I just got here."
"I don't want you to ruin our family's reputation with your dim-witted self." He sat up and started to usher you out.
"Says the one who works in a convenience store!"
He grabbed your book and bag and shoved it into your grasp all while pushing you out the store.
"What- wait! I still need to get some strawberry milk!"
"Too bad so sad." He hummed as he began to walk back into the building.
"This is not how you treat your customers!" You scolded him, he turned back around with a grin on his face.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but as you see here," Yeonjun pointed to a sign with the title 'Opening Hours,' "The store is now closed."
You walked towards the entrance where he was before only to be met with a glass door smacking into you. You hissed at the pain and placed your hand on your forehead. Hah, he thinks he can get away with this? Just wait until I tell his mother.
You regained your posture and took a deep breathe before kicking the door. "I'll be back you bastard!"
You climbed down the little flight of stairs and decided to just head back home. It's late anyways, and you still needed to study for that unnecessary exam. The part of the day you dreaded the most.
Once you arrived at the bus stop, you planted yourself down onto the bench. You stared at the scenery in front of you, seeing the sun starting to set. For some random reason, this day went by a lot slowly than they usually do.
Oh yeah, that's why. A certain boy stole your valuable possession. God, who in their right mind would steal banana milk from someone? No, not just anyone. But from you. You crossed your arms and legs and laughed at the thought.
And as if just on queue, the one brownie boy you had been waiting to see all day decided to just pop up right in front of you. He crouched down, tilting his head with a boyish grin on his face.
"Annyeong!" He cheered as he waved.
And that was the last thing he said before getting a large bruise on his jaw.
How in the world does this guy still look hot with a large bruise on his jaw?
"For your size, you definitely know how to punch someone." Brownie beamed a large boyish grin as if he hadn't just been punched. He was sitting on the ground, rubbing his jaw as you scoffed.
"Where is my banana milk huh?" You ignored him and asked him while slightly raising her eyebrows. He stood up back to his original position and showed you his index finger, indicating for you to wait. Brownie grabbed his backpack from his back, and opened the zipper to reveal the drink you had been waiting for all day.
He pulled the banana milk out and without hesitation you reached over for it. He quickly pulled it away and stepped back.
"Hey Brownie, give it!" You tried to grab it.
"I will, once you give me my strawberry milk first." He smirked. He knew that you didn't have his strawberry milk. You for sure blamed Yeonjun for this. He has a large hissy fit coming his way.
You had no clue what to tell this guy. So, you lied. Was it a convincing lie? No, but it was worth the shot. He seems like the stupid type anyways.
"I don't have it. It was uh," He leaned in closer to you. "out of stock." You scratched your head and shrugged.
"Really?" He narrowed his eyes and smiled. You rolled your eyes and nodded. He licked his lips before chuckling. "You sure it wasn't because you were thrown out the store?"
Alright your lie sucked. Sue yourself. He had more brain power than you thought.
"Wait- you saw that?"
"Sure did."
"That's stalking."
"I happened to be in the area."
"I can report you to the police, you know that right?"
"How will you get your banana milk then?" He queried. Dang it, brownie's got a point.
You gaped at him before huffing in defeat.
"You smile too much, especially for someone who just got punched." You glanced over at him.
"Is that a compliment or an insult?" He furrowed his eyebrows playfully. You glared at him before you saw the headlights of the bus coming your way.
"Insult. You don't deserve a compliment after what you did to me."
The bus pulled up to the curb you guys were standing by and opened the doors. You quickly entered the almost-empty vehicle that seemed rather lonely, just the way you liked it.
"Well, you don't smile enough." He said, entering the bus from behind you.
"That's because you took my milk." You said in a matter-of-fact tone, sitting down with the boy sitting right beside you.
"Is that all it takes to make you happy?" He turned his body slightly over.
"Yup."
He nodded and made sure to take note of that. "Anyways, I'm Beomgyu." He stook out his hand. You looked down at it and back at him.
There was silence, the only sound being heard was the bus engine and the calming music from the radio.
"This is usually where you say your name."
You eyed him. "Why would I give you my name?"
He shifted to the side. "I already know your name. I was just asking out of curtesy and so you don't think I'm a creep for knowing."
"Too late. You have been in my list of creeps since the moment you said you saw me get 'thrown' out of the store."
Beomgyu rolled his eyes with a grin. "Just tell me who you are."
"I'm your worst nightmare."
"So you're Barney?" He gasped. You looked at him with an unreadable expression, trying to understand what the boy had just said before face palming with the thought of a 16 year old being afraid of Barney.
"Barney is your worst nightmare? That's insanely pathetic."
"Hey, no judging. He has creepy looking eyes and his mouth is huge, he could tear a kid's head off." Brownie imitated Barney by opening his mouth wide. You were so glad there was no one else on the bus that had to witness this torture.
"You're such a kid." You slouched down and looked out the window.
"Says the one who's only satisfied when they have banana milk." He patted your head and you swatted his hand away.
The bus stopped and you both slightly jolted. "First Cheonggyecheon." The bus driver announced. You sighed in relief and quickly got up, sliding between Beomgyu and the chair in front of him.
"This is your stop?" He asked as he stood up. You turned around and gave him a thumbs up.
"Hold on." He dug through his backpack and took out the banana milk.
"Here."
Your eyes widened when they landed on the object in his palm. You felt like he was playing with you at first, so you slowly lifted your arm up and snatched it.
"I-uh, thanks." You softly smiled.
He smiled at you in return. "You should smile more often, you look really pretty when you do."
If it wasn't for that cute smile you would have definitely given him another punch to the face.
Why is he so freaking perfect?
You let out a laugh and took a last glance at the guy before turning around and heading out of the bus. The bus doors closed once you exited, and you took a deep breathe. Right as you were about to leave, there was a tap on the window from the vehicle. You took a few steps back to see who was tapping and saw Beomgyu.
He waved at you, with a huge childish grin. As the bus began to move, he continued to wave at you while walking to the back of the bus window. You silently watched him with a small smile evident on your face before the bus was out of sight.
Huh, what a weird kid.

The Deer Hunters
Gilmore Girls masterlist
"Shopping for school supplies. Are you kidding?" Lorelai asked as they walked up onto the side walk.
"Nobody demanded that you come." Rory told her.
"Are you kidding? How often do you get to do things like this? I was thinking, while we're going crazy, we should get toilet paper and a plunger." Lorelai told them as they walked into the store.
"We can just do this later." Harper said sticking her hands on her pockets.
"No. I'm teasing. Okay, get that list of yours." Lorelai said as she grabbed a basket as Rory and Harper walked in.
"Okay, ahem." Rory said as her and Harper got there lists out.
"I need legal pads."
"Got it."
"Tons of pens."
"Right."
"Some number two pencils, three highlighters, an eraser, a stable remover, and a folder." They went over Rory's list first.
"You need three highlighters?" Lorelai gave Rory a suspicious look.
"Yes."
"Three?"
"Yes."
"That's a very random number."
"Three is not a random number." Rory said as she grabbed a folder.
"How'd you get the three?"
"One dries up, one gets lost, I have on left."
"You've really thought this out"
"Yes I have."
"What came first- the chicken or the egg?"
"Can we get back to the list?" Rory asked her.
"Alright. Ooh, hey- legal pads."
"Not those. Those are purple."
"Purple is festive."
"I can't have purple."
"Yes, you can. They're on sale." Lorelai reasoned.
"I'm going to serious school. I need serious paper."
"Paper is paper, Rory." Harper spoke up.
"Not at Chilton."
"Alright, fine. Here's your serious paper."
"Thank you."
"ooh, and here are your somber highlights, your Maudlin pencils, your manic-depressive pens." Lorelai said grabbing stuff off the shevles.
"Mom." Rory hung her head.
"Now, these erasers are on lithium, so they seem cheerful, but we caught them trying to shove themselves in the pencil sharpener." Lorelai picked up colorful erasers.
"I'm going home." Rory said.
"No, wait. We're gonna stage an intervention with the Neon post-its. And make them give up their wacky, crazy ways." Lorelai grabbed the post-its.
"You're never coming shopping with me again." Rory said walking out the front door.
"Oh, here's a card.." Before Lorelai could finish Rory had walked out of hearing zone.
"You pay for Rory's stuff, I'll shop for my stuff and you can catch up with Rory, make more of her 'serious' paper." Harper said
"Okay."Lorelai chuckled.
Harper got everything on her list.

Once she had got everything she paid. As she walked up to the cash resister and rung everything up she was about to hand the cash lady some cash when Theodore popped up beside her handing the lady a 60 bucks then Theodore grabbed her bags and rushed her out of the store.
"Theodore! Why did you pay for my stuff?" She asked him.
"Cause I wanted to be a gentlemen." Theodore told her as they walked down the street.
"You didn't have too."
"Yes, I did. I'm your boyfriend its what I do." Theodore told her as she shook her head.
"Let me pay you back." She told him grabbed her wallet.
"No, no, no. Listen. Harper. If I want to pay for your stuff let me pay, without paying me back." Theodore told her.
"But I don't want to be using you."
"You're not. And I know that." Theodore told her switching the bags to his left hand and grabbing her hand.
%
Rory got off the bus with the last of her stuff and they walked up to the school
"Jeez, Rory. That's alot. You sure you need it all. Even all my stuff fit in my backpack." Harper told her.
"Yes, Harper" Rory huffed at her.
There was only one class Harper and Rory had together and that was Mr. Medina's class. They were sat side by side as he went to each student handing them there papers.
"Miss Gilmore, girls, take these home. Learn from your mistakes. Look at the large, red circles around various parts of your paper as friendly reminders that to error is human and that here at Chilton we try to beat that humanity out of you. Okay. Next up, the test-- the dreaded test. Shakespeare-- the man we've been droning on about for the last three weeks-- finally comes back to haunt us on Friday. This is a big one, my friends-- multiple choice with an essay section that will count for 20% of your grade this semester. Don't be fooled by mind kind face and charming personality. This test will be hard, and there will be no makeups." Mr. Medina said as Harper stared down at the D+ on her paper and red marks everywhere as he spoke and the bell rang, "Refer to the study materials that I gave you at the beginning of the month and those extensive notes I know you've been taking." He continued as everybody started getting up and leaving.
Harper stared at the paper a little bit more than closed her test book and opened her bag as she heard Paris speak.
"Hard paper." Paris said as Harper rolled her eyes.
"Killer." Louise said grabbing her bag.
"How'd you do?" Paris asked her as she stood up.
"A."
"Me too!"
"Small world."
"Isn't it? Madeline, what'd you get?" Paris asked the dark haired girl as Harper stood putting her bag on her shoulders.
"You know I got a B."
"A B's not bad. "
"Not at all."
"Respectable even."
"I'd be proud."
"A D, however, would be cause for concern." Paris said as she turned to Rory and Harper as they put there bags on.
"A cry for help."
"A job application at McDonald's."
"Would you like fries with that?"
"Hey, you know, not everybody can be smart. As my mother always says, somebody has to answer the phones."
"Okay, I have no idea what you two are talking about."
"No, but Rory and Harper do." Paris teased as the three girls walked past them.
"Okay, Paris, I've had enough with the teasing games. You wanna keep on, I'll beat your ass right here in this hallway." Harper told her and the three girls walked away quickly.
Rory walked away looking at the paper as Harper looked down at the paper in her hand as her chest heaved.
"Right here? In this hallway. Wouldn't that ruin your chance of ever getting into college with that on your record." A voice said behind her and she turned seeing Mr. Medina standing there
"I wasn't going to actually. It just gets them away. They're a bunch of teasers and it's annoying. Who teases people over grades, now, and just because they do bad on one paper doesn't mean they're dumb." Harper told him as he gave her sympathetic look.
"You'll do better next time. Make sure to study for the test." Mr. Medina told her and turned and walked into the classroom.
Harper sighed and walked away. As she turned down the hallway she saw Tristan with his arm up on the wall blocking Rory. She walked down to them.
"Please leave me alone." Rory told him as Harper walked up.
"Leave, Tristan, now." Harper told him looping her arm in Rory's and pulling her past him.
"Later... Mary." Tristan called after as both girls shook there head.
They shook there heads before they heard a loud bang and turned around to see Tristan's books on the ground and in front of him stood Theodore who was speaking to him with the most threatening look ever. Theodore then proceeded to walk over to them.
"Hey." His face soften as he walked over to them like nothing happened and as everybody stared.
"What did you say to him?" Rory asked
"I just told him to leave you alone." Theodore told her and she smiled as they walked up to her next class.
"Thanks." She said before going into the class.
"So, what are you doing here?" Harper asked as they walked towards the lunch room.
"Thought I'd come have lunch with you." He told her as they got in the lunch line.
"Aw, how sweet. So, are you gonna be getting in trouble for hitting Tristan books out of his hands and threatening him?" Harper asked grabbing a tray and started to fill it up.
"Nah. Headmaster Charleston know me since I was born beside he knows how I am and knows I wouldn't do something like that unless the other had done something." Theodore told her as they sat down across from each other as an empty table.
"Tristan Dugray to the office please." They heard over the loud speaker and Theodore chuckled.
%
Rory and Harper walked through the Inn's door into the kitchen and Lorelai and Sookie looked up at them.
"Behold-- in theaters now, the thing that reads a lot." Lorelai made fun of Rory who dropped all her bags on the floor.
"Chocolate?" Rory asked
"Glass measuring cup." Sookie pointed to the side.
"Lorelai, look, look." Sookie told her as they looked down at the magazine in Lorelai's hands.
"I'm sorry." Lorelai said as they walked over to the counter and started flipping through the pages.
"Jeez, who's naked?" Harper asked as she grabbed a piece of chocolate and walked over.
"Uh, Lucien Mills-- food critic." Lorelai told her.
"Yeah? How's his butt?" Harper asked as Rory grabbed a piece of chocolate and walked over.
"No, he was supposed to review the restaurant-- Oh! Here it is." Lorelai said putting the magazine against her chest.
"Is it- is it good? Is he mean? Should I cry?" Sookie asked wiping her hand on her apron
"Here we go. The words Divine, Delectable, and delirious do't began to describe the delicious experience of dinning at the independence Inn. I'm smelling a rave." Lorelai danced a little.
"Really?" Sookie asked
"Only Chef Sookie St. James could make a simple salad of Hothouse tomatoes and assorted fresh herbs seem like a religious experience. Her lobster bisque is worth every sinful, cream-filled sip." Lorelai continued to read.
"See, I don't use that much cream. I just use a very concentrated lobster stock, and it really makes it--." Sookie smiled big.
"Sookie, he's not here." Lorelai told her shaking her head.
"Go on." Harper told her as she grabbed a juice out of the fridge.
"The entrees are as heavenly as the starters. Though the much-lauded risotto was perfectly fine, it was the simple handkerchief pasta with brown sage in a butter sauce the sent me through the roof. This is unbelievable! I'm gonna have this framed for the dinning room! " Lorelai said excitedly as she patted the magazine.
"Oh, yeah. That'd be swell. Can I see that again?" Sookie said not as excited.
"So we should celebrate tonight, huh-- Girls on the town?" Lorelai danced over to them.
"I can't. I have to study." Rory told her.
"Same here." Harper said grabbing another piece of chocolate from the glass Rory had a tight grip on.
"I should really get started on this shopping list." Sookie spoke from the counter making Lorelai look between all the girls.
"What is going on here? We are young and fiery women. Studying? Shopping list? Where's to hell with it all? Where's throwing caution to the wind? Where-oh shoot- the linen delivery." Lorelai said as then walked away.
"You go, girl." Harper told her grabbing another piece of chocolate.
That night Harper and Rory were sat across from each other studying while Lorelai sat in the living room watching TV.
"News is on!" Lorelai called.
"One sec." Both girls yelled back before continuing studying.
"For our top story tonight, a grisly, horrible thing happened in a small town where no grisly, horrible things ever happen. Everyone shocked. House slides down hill. Liposuction kills. Stay fat." Lorelai says as both girls look at her for a moment before looking back down at their books.
"Hey, Let's go gt ice cream! I'm bored. Hello?" Lorelai waved her hand in front of the girl's face when they don't answer.
"Mom, we're studying." Harper told her as she sat down in the third seat at the table.
"I'm talking ice cream. Can't you take a break?" Lorelai asked
"Not right now." Harper shook her head.
"Okay. When?"
"Are you 4?" Rory turned to her mother.
"No! I'm hungry!"
Have some more pizza."
"It's cold."
"Heat it up."
"It's not the same."
"Lorelai, go to your room." Harper told her
"Wow! Smart girls are mean!" Lorelai leaned on the table.
"If you let us study now, we'll play with you this weekend."
"Promise."
"Yes. We can do anything you want."
"Will you go to the shoe sale with me?"
"Yes."
"Will you let me try on anything I want?"
"Yes."
"Will you help me push people out of the way?"
"I'll ever run interference for you."
"Alright. You've got a deal."
"Good." Rory said and Lorelai walked out before stopping and turning back around.
"So-- I'm sorry-- where did we land on the whole ice-cream issue?" Lorelai asked and Rory stood up grabbing her stuff and going into her room.
"What?" Lorelai said as Harper laid her head down as Lorelai walked out of the room finally letting her study.
%
The next day after school Harper walked into her best friends house.
"Charlie!" Harper yelled for her best friend.
"bedroom!" Charlie yelled back.
Harper walked through the kitchen seeing Shana, Charlie's mother cooking.
"Hi, Shana." Harper smiled walking up and giving her a hug.
"Harper, honey, hey, how are you liking Chilton so far?" Shana asked.
"Good, little bit more hard, but overall pretty good." Harper told her and she smiled.
Harper walked to Charlie's room to find her studying on her bed.
"Hey!" Charlie stood up hugging her.
"Hey." Harper hugged back then they sat on Charlie's bed.
"So, how's Theodore?" Charlie asked flipping a page in English book.
"He's good. He come's and visit's me everyday and eat's lunch with me at Chilton. He stuck for Rory because there's this one boy there who won't leave her alone." Harper told her getting out her books to study.
"Speaking of Chilton. How's that going?' Charlie asked grabbing a snicker's bar and handing half of it to Harper and ate the other half.
"Good, I guess. It's a lot harder than Star's Hallow high. And the people there, complete snobby rich jerks. There's this one kid names Michael first day there he was trying to date me. And a kid name Tristan who won't stop calling Rory Mary." Harper explained.
"Mary? Sheesh that's rough." Charlie shook her head.
"What's new at Star's Hallow high?" Harper asked as she opened her book and started to copy stuff down in her notebook.
"Oh, nothing much. Um, Sandra the drum major is dating East Bennett the Trumpet Major now." Charlie told her.
"Really? Man I knew they were making eyes at each other last year." Harper shook her head as they both laughed.
Later that night Harper was sat in Luke's studying when Theodore sat down beside her.
"Hey." He said to her and she gave him a stressed hi back before continuing studying.
"You want some help?"Theodore looked between the paper and her.
"No." Harper rubbed her hand against her forehead as she continued to write.
Theodore laid his large hand down covering paper.
"Come on." He told her packing her stuff up and putting it in her bag.
"Hey-what are you doing? Where are we going?" Harper asked him as he picked up her bag and grabbed her hand dragging her out.
"We're gonna go get some ice cream and cake." Theodore told her.
"What? No, Theodore, I don't have time for that. I need to study. I'll fail my next paper." Harper told him.
"Listen, if you sit there craming and filling your head with no break. Getting frustrated over and over, trying to work through it. You'll get nothing done. You won't remember a thing. You'll fail you paper harder. You need breaks." Theodore told her as they walked down the street,
"The more breaks I take the more time I'll lose and the more likely to fail." Harper told him.
"No, Harper. If you don't take breaks you'll get stuff wrong over and over. Trust me this is coming from a Harvard graduate who tried to spend his college experience studying the whole time and failing the first quarter then realizing breaks are good." Theodore told her and she finally relaxed for the first time all day.
"Thank you." She turned and hugged Theodore who just smiled and laid his head on her head.
They got ice cream and cake and went to the gazebo in the middle of the square and sat and ate it and talked about everything and anything. By the end of the night Theodore and Harper were walking up on Harper's doorstep.
"Thank you, Theodore. I really needed that." Harper hugged him and took her bag from him.
"Your very welcome, princess." Theodore told her and she blushed.
"Don't call me that." She smiled at him.
"Mmm. I'll think about it." Theodore said making her giggle.
"Goodnight, Theodore." Harper told him.
"Goodnight, Princess." Theodore said and leaned down kissing.
He pulled back from her and walked down the steps towards his car.
"You better not make a habit of calling me that." Harper called after him.
"Don't worry, Princess." Theodore said getting in his car and driving away.
%
Harper was sat across from Rory who was reading Shakespeare on the bench,
"Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments. Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds or bends with the remover to remove-- Oh, no! It is an ever-fixed mark that looks on tempests and is never shaken. It is the star to every wandering bark, whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. You're going down." Paris leaned over the chair looking between the girls who just stared at her as she walked away.
%
"The comedy of errors-- written?" Lorelai asked
"1590." Rory said.
"Published?"
"1698." Harper said putting a chip in her mouth.
"1623. Close." Lorelai told her.
"How is 1623 close?" Harper asked her.
"You got the 16 part right."
"I was of by 75 years."
"Well, anything under 100 is close."
"What kind of a rule is that?" Rory asked her sitting down.
"I'm running the study session here. Okay. Richard III?"
"1591." Harper hoped for redemption but Lorelai imitated a buzzer.
"93?" Lorelai did it again.
"96? Lorelai did it again.
"that's really annoying." Rory said and Lorelai did it again as Harper grabbed her paper.
Many hours later they were still studying and Lorelai brought them coffee.
"Go on. I'm listening." Lorelai said coming back into the room handing the girls coffee.
"The sonnets are 154 poems of 14 lines." Rory said.
"Except?"
"Except for 126, which is 12 lines." Rory told her.
"Good."
"They're written in Iambic Pentameter." Harper popped in.
"Except?"
"Except for 145, which is in tetrameter." Harper said
"Rock on, sister."
"Really?"
"Not one mistake."
"Wow!"
"How do you feel?"
"Nauseous." Harper said then sat down beside her
"Well, I don't think the fries and horseradish sauce was the best idea we had."
"It was satisfying in the moment, though." Harper held her stomach.
"You guys are gonna blow that class away tomorrow." Lorelai told them and they both smiled.
"You think?" Rory asked taking a sip of her coffee.
"I think. What do you say we call it a night and get some sleep?" Lorelai asked
"You guys go. I wanna review my notes one more time." Rory said.
"I'm gonna stay and review mine a little bit more too." Harper said grabbing her book.
"Oh, that's okay. I'll stay up." Lorelai told them as they got up and walked towards the kitchen to put there mugs up.
"Mom, go to sleep." Harper told her.
"No. I'm not eve tired. I was just thinking of you!" Lorelai sighed as Harper sat down at the kitchen table and started to work on her stuff.
Rory got up and walked into the living room then came back in a few seconds later.
"She's asleep." Rory told her and Harper chuckled a little bit.
%
Harper woke up to Rory yelling.
"NO!" Rory yelled getting up and running into her room.
Harper set her head up looking at the clock before shooting up out of her chair.
"We're late!" Harper yelled running upstairs to her room.
"What?" Lorelai asked
"We're Late! We're Late! We woke up late!" Rory yelled as Harper got on her school uniform in hurry.
"Calm down." Lorelai said as Harper came down the stairs with her tie in her hand.
"I can't calm down. We missed the bus! Get up!" Harper said grabbing Lorelai's hand and making her stand up from her chair.
"Sweetie, Mommy can't get up right now. Mommy's been sleeping at a right angle all night." Lorelai said rubbing her neck as Rory came out of her room.
"We're gonna miss the test." Rory told her.
"No. No, you're not. I'll get the keys. We'll go right now."Let's go. Let's go!" Lorelai said stuffing their books into their bags then grabbing her purse, but just as she was about to go out the door Lorelai turned to them.
"I can't take you." Lorelai gasped.
"You have to!" Rory said.
"I have a meeting at 8:00!" Lorelai told them.
"Mom!" Harper yelled.
"Okay, wait. Okay. Think. Listen, here, you drive." Lorelai said handing the keys to Harper.
"What?" Rory yelled.
"I'll get a ride from Sookie. Take the phone. Take the keys. Go, Go, Go, Go!" Lorelai yelled and they ran out the door.
"We're gone." Rory told her as they got in the car.
Harper sped to Hartford, as she pulled up to a stop light as Rory got the phone.
"I gotta call Lane." Rory told her.
"Okay." Harper nodded her head.
As Rory got on call with Lane Harper was about to start driving again a deer came and hit the side of the car.
"Oh, my, god." Harper shook her head.
Rory got out of the car and looked around as she talked to Lane.
"Rory, it's 7:40, Lets go." Harper yelled and Rory ran back.
They sped the way to the school before parking and running into the school. They walked through Mr. Medina's door where they saw everyone testing.
"I'm sorry." Harper told him as her and Rory walked to her seat.
"Everyone back to your test. Gilmore's, you're gonna have to wait in the library." Medina told them
"What about the test?" Harper asked
"I'm afraid you've missed the test." Medina told them.
"No." Rory said.
"We start class at 8:05."
"NO"
"That's when I need people in their seats."
"Please."
"I'm sorry. It's the rules."
"But you don't understand. We were up all night studying, and then we missed our bus. So I had to drive."
"Let's discuss this outside." Medina told them.
"I'm driving, I stop and I get hit my a deer." Harper explains to him.
"You hit a deer?"
"I got hit by a deer. You don't believe me? I've got antler prints on the side of my mother's car." Harper told him as he chuckled.
"Girls, come on." Medina shook his head.
"No! You have to let us take the test! We know everything about Shakespeare." Rory told him.
"Okay, calm down." Medina told them.
"I know his birthday, his mother's name...What kind of ink he used." Rory told him before they both heard Paris and Louise behind them.
"Loser." They both said making the girls turn around.
"And just what is wrong with you, huh?! You have everything! You have the grades and the status! What the hell is wrong with you that you have this constant need to be the biggest jerk in the world?!" Rory got down by her head.
"Okay, let's go." Medina tried to grab her and Harper's bag.
"Huh? What's up? What's up, quippy? Why so silent?" Harper asked when no words were spoken.
"Outside-- Now." Medina told them as they both stood and walked with him before Rory bent down by Tristian.
"And, for the last time, the name is Rory!" She told him before they walked outside.

Harper and Rory were sat outside the office when Lorelai walked around the corner.
"Girls, what happened?" Lorelia walked over to them.
"I got hit by a deer." Harper told her.
"You got what?"
"And then we were late, and they wouldn't let us take the test."
"Uh, What?"
"They wouldn't let us take the test."
"Oh, no, you're kidding me!"
"Mom..."
"No, it's okay. Just sit right here. I'll handle this." Lorelai told them before getting up and walking into the office.
They both quietly looked at each other before slumping in their seats.
Lorelai came out a few minutes later and just down besides them.
"You got hit by a deer?" Lorelai asked after a few minutes of silence making both the girls look at her.
They walked outside to the car and showed her the dent in the car door.
"You did. You got hit by a deer. It just came out of nowhere." Harper told her.
"You couldn't just run into a wall like the other kids?"
"Can we just go home, please?"
"Yeah, sure. Jump in." Lorelai told her.
Rory got in and Harper was about to get in when an expansive car pulled up beside them and out came Theodore. Harper looked at him as she set her stuff down in the car closing the door. He gave her a sympathetic look.
"What are you doing here?" Harper walked over to him as he ignored her.
"Hi, Rory, Miss Gilmore. I'll, uh, take her home, if that's okay." Theodore looked between Rory and Lorelai.
"Yeah, sure, kid. And, please, call me Lorelai." Lorelai told him started the car.
"Have a good rest of your day, Rory." Theodore told her as they drove off and Rory gave him a wave.
"What are you doing here?" Harper asked as he led her to the passenger seat.
"My father get's told everything that happens at Chilton the moment they happen." Theodore told her as he closed her passenger door once she got in then walked around the car and got in the driver seat and started the car.
"Jeez. I was kinda hoping no one would talk so you wouldn't find out." Harper told him as she laid her head back as Theodore started driving.
"Trust, everything gets told, I mean everything down to who everyone is dating." Theodore told her as her eyes went wide.
"No, no, no. Your dad knows where dating and probably hates me, thinks I'm crazy, and doesn't want you dating me." Harper covered her face with her hands as Theodore chuckled.
"No, he doesn't. I promise. He understands more than anything." Theodore told her as he took a left.
"Really?" Harper asked him.
"Yes, promise. And you have nothing to worry about, nothing you do can trump what I use to do in school." Theodore told her and she chuckled
Harper was gonna say something when Theodore stopped the car. Behind Lorelai's jeep. Rory was out of the car, Harper got out the car with Theodore right behind her.
"What are you guys doing?" She asked
"Looking for the deer." Rory told her.
"You're never gonna find the deer." Harper said.
"That's what I said." Lorelai rolled her eyes as she got out of the car.
"What deer?" Theodore asked as they all followed Rory.
"We got hit by a deer this morning." Harper told him.
"You hit a deer?" Theodore asked concerned.
"No, we got hit by a deer. We were stopped right here and it came out of nowhere and hit the side of the jeep." Harper explained as Lorelai and Rory talked ahead of them.
"So I had a nice chat with headmaster Charleston. He said you guys went ballistic in class." Lorelai said as Harper and Theodore caught up with them.
"We were just tired. And it Rory that more tired between the two of us. I said like 5 words" Harper told Lorelai and Rory shoved her.
"You wouldn't have been tired if you hadn't been killing yourself all week." Lorelai told her.
"Yeah, next time I take Harper for her break from Homework, we'll take you, you need a break too." Theodore told her as he put his hands in his pockets.
"I was studying. I didn't have a choice."
"Maybe you shouldn't be studying that hard."
"What are you talking about?" Rory asked
"You're 16 and 18. You should get some sleep and eat a real meal. And come up for air once in a while."
"They kicked us out." Harper stopped walking.
"Of course not. They love you, guys. This is coming from me."
"Are you saying we should quit?" Rory asked
"I'm saying, if you want to go back to your other school, with Lane and Charlie, that would be fine with me. Lorelai explained.
"You don't think we can do it." Rory shook her head.
"You know that's not true. I think you guys can do anything. But you don't lose it in class, either of you. That not part of the Rory or Harper personality. If you're losing it in class because you're tried or stressed out or working too hard, I'm worried about that. I have to be." Lorelai told her.
"I lose it once."
"Okay. Fine." Lorelai said and they continued walking.
"It's just I can't remember a time when we weren't talking about you going to Harvard. It was just a given. That was what we were working for. Everything went in that direction."
"I know."
"And I'm forgetting where that all started."
"What are you talking about?" Harper asked.
"I'm talking about did it start with me or did it start with you? Was it my dream that you guys went to Harvard? " Lorelai pointed at Harper.
"Mom?" Harper said.
"Because I never got to the big, fancy college thing? Maybe all this time I'm thinking it's all for Harper and Rory when really it wasn't." Lorelai stopped walking again.
"I'm not doing this because of you, neither of us." Rory told her.
"But if you are, you don't have to."
"We know that."
"I'll still love you. Even if you can't support me in my old age in the fabulous manner which I plan on growing accustomed."
"I'll remember that selfless gesture. Thank you." Harper laughed putting her arm on Lorelai shoulder.
"I just want you to be happy."
"We are."
"No, I want you to "Dancing through the woods, crazy" Happy. If Harvard and Chilton is not gonna do that for you, then forget about them."
"We were just behind. Neither of us caught up on the reading. That's why we got D's. We can catch up. We will catch up. When we do, everything will be fine."
"Girls.."
"No, Harvard is my dream." Harper stopped her.
"Mine too."
"I want it more than anything. I swear."
"Yeah, but-"
"I appreciate all that you're saying. But we're not ready to give up on Chilton yet."
"Fair enough."
"I do, however, reserve the right to change my mind."
"That's your prerogative as long as you remain a woman."
"Thanks, though."
"For what?"
"For yelling at headmaster the way you did."
"Oh, I didn't yell at him."
"You called him IL Duce."
"Which means "Kind sir" in Cantonese."
"Thank you."
"Your welcome."
"How much longer are we gonna look for this crazy deer?"
"Just a little further. I just hope he didn't hurt himself."
"I just hope he has insurance." Lorelai said as they continued to walk.
"Hey, where's Theodore" Harper asked.
"Oh, he went back to the car, quite a while ago." Rory told her.
"What? That's why he was so quiet." Harper said
Once they got back to the cars they all went back home. As Harper and Theodore walked through the door they heard Max Medina's voice.
"Anyway, see you in class, bye." Medina said as Harper and Theodore walked into the living room to see Lorelai sitting there as the message box clicked off.
"Hey, was that Mr.Medina?" Harper asked making Lorelai turn to her and Theodore.
"Yeah, he has extra credit work for you guys to do, go upstairs change, we're gonna go to Luke's to study." Lorelai told her and she raced upstairs and Theodore sat down in the love seat.
