Things cheaper at Dollartree (after much research)

This is a big list I made for myself and anyone else who wants to know what is legit cheaper at the dollar tree and not just 1 dollar for the sake of there, some things might surprise you what is cheaper and even better at a dollar tree. I try to also pick the healthiest options and compare them to prices in places such as Walmart or a large stock place like BJs. I have also used fooducate.com to see which ones are more healthy, of course with things such as chips and snacks though don’t consider them to be healthy but in those cases I opt for the off-brand ones that taste better than the brand ones. Note: This is USA based.

Is a Leopard Gecko the Right Pet for You?

Leopard geckos are right up there with ball pythons and bearded dragons as some of the most common and popular reptiles in pet stores. You’ve no doubt seen them go for about $30 at your local pet store.

But if you’re interested in getting a leopard gecko, don’t be fooled into thinking that caring for them is as easy and cheap as the pet stores make it look. Compared to other reptiles, leopard geckos are indeed a great choice for beginners. But it shouldn’t be an impulse buy, and I’ll give you a few reasons why. 

Here are the pros and cons of keeping leopard geckos as pets. As usual, we’ll start with the not-so-great news. 

A good setup can be pricey

You’ll have no problem finding common color forms of leopard geckos for less than $50. There are always some up for adoption/rehoming, too. But if you’re like me and want to provide the absolute best for your pet, expect to spend at least a couple hundred dollars on its setup. 

Now, you can keep a leopard gecko in a tub setup with a heat mat or heat tape, as many breeders successfully do. This is by far the cheapest way to go. If your goal is just to cover all the bases, then I’m not here to stop you. But if your goal is to provide everything a leopard gecko needs to thrive, not just survive, here’s what it might cost you. 

(This was my shopping list for a naturalistic setup when I rescued Calcifier. Prices may vary depending on where you buy the items and if you choose different brands than I did.)

Enclosure (Exo Terra 24x18x12) - $125

This price list doesn’t cover feeders, but crickets and mealworms are fairly cheap. Even if you get more expensive feeders like dubia or hornworms, you’re monthly cost will likely stay below $30. 

A quick word about thermostats before we move on: a reliable thermostat is an absolute must for any animal that requires a heat source. There are definitely cheaper options than Herpstat (my choice), some around $20. But this is not an area where you want to skimp on quality or you could end up with a dead animal or a house fire, so choose wisely! Also, if you get a heat source like the Deep Heat Projector, it’s recommended that you use a dimming thermostat to extend the life of the bulb.

It’s a long-term commitment

Leopard geckos don’t just live for a few short years. In fact, males can live for 20 years or more if you’re caring for them properly. I don’t know many dogs and cats that have lived that long! 

So if you’re getting a leopard gecko, you need to think about the future. Are you getting it for a kid who’s going to grow up and leave it behind? Are you going to have the time for daily care for the next 20 years? Do you have a backup plan if you can no longer give it a good home? 

They prefer the night

If you were hoping for a pet you can hang out with during the day, you might not like having a leopard gecko. They are most active at dusk, dawn, and during the night. 

On the other hand, a leopard gecko would be a wonderful pet if you work all day and prefer to spend time with your animals in the evening.

Certain morphs have complications

Breeders have been producing and selling leopard geckos for a long time. And, as a result, a number of problematic situations have cropped up with certain color morphs and traits. 

I’m not going to go into detail on this, because a gecko keeper I deeply respect recently made a wonderful video on the subject. The bottom line is, be sure to familiarize yourself with the types of complications associated with some of the morphs out there. I wouldn’t recommend that first-time gecko keepers try to deal with neurological issues. 

And that’s all I have to say on the negative side of things, believe it or not. There are a number of reasons leopard geckos make great pets, and the pros definitely outweigh the cons here. 

They’re clean

Once leopard geckos adjust to their new home, they will typically pick a corner to use as a bathroom zone. I’ve even seen keepers successfully “litter train” them with a removable dish or paper towel. They’ll do their business there every single time, making cleaning day incredibly easy. 

I should mention that I do provide natural substrate for Calcifer, and he likes to dig around in it. Sometimes that means he gets substrate where I don’t want it to go, but that’s an easy fix. He is, by far, the cleanest animal I have!

They’re personable

In general, leopard geckos are one of the friendliest reptiles out there. Of course, every animal is an individual, so there are some exceptions to this. Some geckos can be skittish and never seem to adjust to handling. 

Here a few things I noticed about Calcifer that seem to be pretty standard for most leopard geckos: 

He’s curious. Ever since I established trust with him, Calcifer has never shown any signs of fear around me. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. If I’m doing something in the same room during his waking hours, he will watch me. If I move something or add something to his enclosure, he’s quick to come out and investigate. 

Calcifer comes when called. I get all my animals used to my voice so they hear me before they see me and won’t get startled. Calcifer knows that when I speak to him, I’m generally about to bring him food or take him out for handling, so he will eagerly come out from wherever he’s hiding.

He loves to just “chill” with me. Because human hands are warm, Calcifer is happy just sitting on my hand for a while. It’s not like handling a crested gecko, which is typically moving/jumping around the entire time. Calcifer is cool with just hanging out for a bit. 

He doesn’t bite. Now, I have been bitten by Calcifer, but that was on the first day I had him. I couldn’t give him time to settle in because I had to start giving him antibiotics and medicated soaks right away. He was understandably scared and not happy with this arrangement, so he bit me once. It did not hurt at all or break skin, and he never tried it again. It takes a lot for a leopard gecko to want to bite someone, and if you’re being a respectful keeper, it should never happen.     

They’re hardy

Leopard geckos can definitely have health problems, don’t get me wrong. But I’ve seen geckos that endured horrible care and were able to come out of that situation and make a full recovery. (Calcifer is one of those geckos!) 

While I think you should always try to provide the best possible care, your leopard gecko probably won’t be negatively impacted if you forget to dust a feeder, you miss a feeding day, or the heat source stops working. There’s a little bit of wiggle room to make some mistakes.  

They’re easy to find

Like I said, it’s not hard to find a leopard gecko in the color morph of your choice for a relatively cheap price. And there always seems to be people out there looking to rehome geckos, or rescues that have some ready for adoption. 

So if you want a leopard gecko, you won’t have to look far!

WHAT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ABOUT YEARS

Err on the side. I may try in the future is David Heinemeier Hansson gave a talk in which he suggested that startup founders should do things the old fashioned way. 40% used to be common. As I've written before, one of our habits of mind than others? Two have already turned down lowball acquisition offers. She arrived looking astonished. Ironically, part of the reason engineering is traditionally averse to handholding is that its traditions date from a time when engineers were less powerful—when they were Robin Hood, their stock price rose like Google's. It seems pretentious, or frivolous, or even make sounds that tell what's happening.4 I can to some extent avoid thinking about nasty things people have done to me by telling myself: this doesn't deserve space in my head. When I was a kid I was firmly in the camp of bad. For it to surprise me, it must be very hard—and so they don't try do to it. Now the same work might be done by one or two sentences.

And by Parkinson's Law, software has expanded to use the shift key much. No idea for a company; we did. Any strategy that omits the effort—whether it's expecting a big launch to get you users, or data ownership at the level of type tags.5 In our school it was eighth grade, which was still then a quasi-government entity. The good news is, if you're ahead now, and you've made something other users want too. Then you could, in effect, is leaks in a seal. Fortunately the way to do this when they can.6 But Yahoo treated programming as a commodity.7 And if you have such problems you want to get rich by building a valuable company and then selling stock in a liquidity event, founders should start companies that make money and live off the revenues of your company, don't look for them in the news. But still the case for guilt is stronger.8 Don't try to guess where your code is slow, because you'll guess wrong. Certainly it can be at every stage.9

It's common in technology for an innovation that decreases the cost of typing it. 99%. Here's a sketch of how I do statistical filtering. How to feed yourself cheaply when you live alone

It can be so frustrating and difficult to get used to living by yourself. Apparently cabinets don’t come magically stocked with spices and you have to buy things??? with money???? So here’s a few things I’ve learned along the way along with some links to other great posts that have information along this subject too.

Your first visit to the grocery store Buckle up because it’s going to be the most expensive one

You need to stock your kitchen since you are not a roach and can’t just eat the wooden cabinets. Every kitchen should have some combination of the “basics” which will be your non-perishable pantry items-those things that your parents house seemingly never runs out of. 

The Basics

-Rice -Pasta (+any other grains you might like such as couscous, wheat berries etc.) -Flour -Sugar -Brown sugar (if you’re into baking like I am) -Baking Soda -Baking powder -Spices (for example, cumin, cayenne, oregano, basil, paprika, etc.) -Salt and pepper -Oats -Boullion or cans of stock -Cans of soup/packets of ramen -Coffee/tea

I suggest you buy these kinds of items in bulk if possible. If you have the space to store them, they will last you forever and items like these can make a meal that is supposed to be 1-2 servings into somethings thats 4-6 which I’ll explain later. Also, buying in bulk is cheaper per pound/100 grams (whatever system you’re using) so in the long run, you’ll save lots of money by buying one fat ass sack of rice a year instead of 15 every few weeks. Check your area for bulk stores, places that sell spices and grains by the weight. This will save you cash and can be more eco-friendly if you’re able to use your own bags/containers.

Tips for meals

It is so much cheaper to cook a larger amount of food at a time than making something for each individual meal. This is because for the most part, you can’t buy ingredients sufficient for one serving at the grocery store and you don’t want to buy something you’ll only use once and then the rest goes bad and bye-bye money. Making a meal that will last you 3-4 days is not only cheaper, but also saves time since after the initial cooking, all you have to do is reheat a little at a time later. You can take this a step further and use grains like rice, pasta and couscous to “cut” the food thereby doubling the amount of servings you have. Below are some really easy recipes that I use that last me days.

Things you can make at home for cheap

HUMMUS! Bc it’s a great snack, filling, healthy and is stupid expensive at the store and stupid cheap and easy to make.

-1 can of garbanzo beans -2 T of tahini (you can leave this out if you want, tahini can be expensive) -1 T lemon juice -1 clove of garlic, minced -Cumin, paprika, salt, pepper

Literally throw it all in a food processor and blend. If it’s too thick, you can add more olive oil or save some of the water from the beans and add that as well. If you do that, less salt will need to be added. If you use dried beans that you’ve soaked and shit you will need more salt.

If you don’t have a food processor, you can heat the beans up and smash it by hand, it’s more effort and it may be chunkier but it works. Same goes for immersion blenders.

Fun ways to shake this hummus up

-Roasted Red pepper: Chop 1/3 C of roasted red pepper and add. Replace some of the olive oil with some of the juice from the pepper jar.

-Roasted Garlic: Instead of mincing a garlic clove, expose the head of the garlic (lol) and rub with a little olive oil, making sure it gets into the cracks (lol). Wrap in foil and roast at 400 degrees (~200 C) for 30-35 minutes. Garlic should be nice and soft when it’s done. Roasted garlic is sweet instead of biting like raw garlic so using a whole head is okay and you won’t die when you eat it.

-Artichoke heart+black olive: Chop up one can of artichoke hearts with however many chopped black olives as you would like

-Pesto: Add in at least one tablespoon of pesto

Now the question is, how do I eat my hummus and the answer is, there’s actually a billion ways

-Put it on a sandwich or wrap! -Dip celery, cucumber, carrots, peppers in it! -Eat it with pretzels or tortilla chips OR if you’re a cheap bastard like me, make your own tortilla chips by cutting up some tortilla rounds, brushing them with olive oil, sprinkling them with salt and bake at 350 for 10ish minutes. I usually put mine into the oven right when I turn it on and pull them out when the oven is preheated bc I can’t be bothered to actually figure out a proper cooking time. Whatever, this is way cheaper than buying chips and they’re more filling. You can also make tortillas, it’s cheap and simple, I find they taste better, but it is slightly time consuming. Here’s a recipe. -Eat it with a spoon wgaf you live alone no judgement.

Coffee Creamer

Hell yes you can make this at home. The basic is about 1 3/4 cup of milk (whatever kind of milk, the more fat in the milk the creamier the creamer) and 14oz of sweetened condensed milk. You can also add in a few drops of any sort of extract/honey or some sprinkles of cinnamon/nutmeg whatever suits your fancy! Here is a bunch of variations. Also put 1/4 of a teaspoon of cinnamon per cup of coffee in with your coffee grounds in the filter for a cinnamon scented coffee.

Popcorn

Well, we all knew this one. But honest to god it is so much cheaper and healthier to pop popcorn using a bag of kernels than it is to buy a box of microwave popcorn. Just pour some oil and a tablespoon of butter into a large pan, add the popcorn and cook covered over medium heat. As soon as the kernels start to pop make sure you start jiggling the pan to keep them moving so they don’t burn and ruin your pan. I’m pretty sure you can put the kernels in a paper bag in the microwave too. Throw salt on it, or even cinnamon and sugar cuz why not.

RULES FOR GROCERY SHOPPING

1. buying in bulk saves

2. Don’t buy in bulk if you can’t use it all before it expires-like yeast! Most expiration dates are pretty generous and you can actually continue using the product beyond the date (this amount of time varies, please for your own safety please google it). Yeast is the only food I know of that is true to its expiration.

3. Avoid superstores when possible. Most of the time, you’re paying for the convenience. Superstores are often more expensive because you’re paying for the convenience of doing all your shopping in one place. 

4. Ethnic markets are almost always cheaper-especially for trendy things like Coconut oil (so cheap at indian food markets!!) Find Chinese, Arabic, Indian, Mexican food markets around you and split up your shopping accordingly. 

5. MAKE YOUR OWN BREAD, it can be very easy. Google it.

6. Off brand is just as good as the rest

7. Coupons, grab them in the front of the store if available

8. Just because something is a good deal doesn’t mean you have to buy it. I don’t care if orange juice is on sale, I don’t drink a lot of orange juice. You know what’s cheaper than something being 50% off? Not buying it at all. It costs $0.00 to be smart. 

9. Don’t make grocery shopping a habitual thing. By that I mean don’t go grocery shopping every Sunday or whatever. Go grocery shopping when you need to go grocery shopping. If it’s been a week but you can wait 4 more days, wait 4 more days.

10. Don’t buy fresh herbs, grow them. A packet of seeds is cheap. Plastic pots are cheap. Potting soil can be cheap if you can find a place where you can buy by the weight instead of a massive bag. Plant the seeds according to the packet. Things like basil need to be watered often. Things like rosemary and thyme are okay chilling a couple of days without it. Read the packets and google it. Also it’s so rewarding to watch your little baby plants grow. An herb garden costs $10 dollars at the most to make. Fresh herbs at the grocery store cost $2-6 per package. Fresh herbs make meals taste a million times better I swear to god it’s the best thing you can do for yourself. Growing herbs also helped me with my depression so bonus.

11. If shopping at a super store, as much as possible stay out of the “middle”. What I mean is, things you buy should come from the sections closest to the wall-these include the produce, meat, dairy and frozen vegetables. All the processed foods are in the middle and though some can be cheap, they’re not filling and you end up buying them a lot. Doing things like making your own hummus can keep you out of the middle aisles and it’s healthier. Things from the middle you may need though are tea, ramen, grains, soup, peanut butter. 

12. Plan your trip. Thoroughly look through your fridge and cabinets to see what you’re out of. I even keep a little white board on my fridge where I write what’s in the fridge and what’s run out. Write down what needs to be replaced/what you need for the next couple of meals. Do not stray from the list when shopping.

13. Go to Marshalls or Winners or whatever equivalent for things like olive oil, K cups if you have a Keurig (oh fancy fancy) and cool pink salt. They also have other kinds of oils like sunflower and avocado, and even sometimes protein powders. It’s way cheaper there and you can buy a liter sized bottle of olive oil for like 7 dollars when it would cost at least twice that at a grocery store. 

14. Do not have the same grocery list every week. Prices of things change, your list should reflect that. If you’re wanting to get some sort of fruit for a snack, don’t get apples every week. Get whatever is in season. The prices of fresh produce in stores and markets will reflect what’s in season (i.e. the cheapest things). Lucky for us Bananas are always in season and are a super cheap snack that people forget about. I often wait until they’re ripe, cut them up and freeze them to make smoothies. 

15. Don’t be afraid of tofu. It’s cheap as hell and once you learn how to prepare it, can be a fantastic substitute for animal proteins if meat/fish are too expensive.

16. Don’t forget, so many foods can be frozen. If something is crazy on sale, don’t be afraid to buy more than usual if you are able to freeze it. Here’s a list of things that can be frozen. TBH here, in Canada, I buy those big 3L bags of milk and store the little baggies in the freezer. 

Finally, go to Goodwill stores and thrift shops to find kitchen appliances, dishes, and cookware for cheap! The best 7 dollars I ever spent was on a crock pot. These stores have so many items that last FOREVER, like a good pan, or a classic cafeteria.  Don’t think you can’t cook because you can’t afford the equipment. Kitchen equipment doesn’t have to be a huge investment.

I’ll never understand how people try to “prove” that eating healthy is expensive by intentionally going and buying expensive fruits and veggies (like this image I could get those in my area for about 22 - 25 dollars and personally to save a few extra dollars I’d nix the soda and prepackaged nuts). It cost me 30 dollars to eat McDonalds 5 days a week for breakfast, and that is ONLY breakfast and Monday - Friday). Ultimately, eating healthy is cheaper than going out to eat or eating fast food every day. It is just a matter of time and convenience. Here are the tips so far I’ve learned, as a college student with no job, for eating healthy and staying on a budget. 

Research. Research which stores are close by that sell fresh produce and protein. Often times, a farmers market is nearby and sells fresh food at a cheaper rate than buying them from a grocery store. Research all of the different farmer's markets and stores nearby and figure out what would be cheapest to buy where. Also, research what fruits and veggies are in season. If it is in season there is a good chance it is grown local and thus, cheaper because it does not cost as much to transport. 

Eat staples. Rice, potatoes, wheat, eggs, pasta, chicken, and fish are probably the cheapest options. What counts as a staple food varies between region, however, you can most count on rice, potatoes, wheat/other grains, and corn. 

Limit name brand buying. Limit buying foods from name brands. The Great Value version or whatever your local stores’ store brand is will likely be much cheaper than buying the name brand item. If you don’t want to buy the Great Value / Store Brand because it is a bit iffy to you, research cheaper brands. Buying Fuji water that is 5 dollars for a 6 pack will not help you save money compared to buying a 24 pack of Nestle water for the same amount. 

Buy frozen and canned food. While fresh is the preferred option, if the only option you can afford is getting the fruits/veggies frozen or canned then do it. It is still a healthier and longer lasting buy than spending the money on getting fast food. 

Get rid of the junk food. Yes, they are lovely to have. But they gots to go. If you are trying to eat healthily and stay on a budget, don’t splurge on junk food. If you only have 10 dollars to get you through the week spend it on actual food instead of buying junk. (Or buy a 24 pack of ramen and some water, the ramen isn’t the healthiest thing in the world but it is still better spent than having bought a 2 dollar meal at McDonalds that is going to barely last you a day)

Learn how to manage your finances. Figure out where your money is going. Seriously. Keep track of everything you spend so much as a time on. Keep a log of food you buy, money you spend on games, rent, utilities, going out, etc. keep track of everything. You may be amazed at how much money you spend on things that aren’t necessary or could have been cheaper or how quickly eating from McDonalds or Burger King once a day will add up.

Cook. Yes, you’re tired, groggy, and want to just eat and head to bed. But get off your butt and cook. There are a lot of easy and quick recipes that don’t take up a lot of your time. If you need ideas, look up college recipes and college food hacks. Look up recipes on youtube for lazy people. If you don’t have your own personal internet try getting wifi or asking a friend if you can come over for a bit to do some research. Bonus to cooking: You can eat the leftovers tomorrow and you won’t have to cook beyond popping them in the microwave. While you're at it, learn how to make healthy and quick snacks that can satisfy that craving for something sweet or junky food-y. 

Use resources. If applicable, use food stamps, food pantries, and community resources to get food. If you are in college, ask around for services for students who need help with food or need financial help, most colleges also offer discounts to certain stores and give out free bus passes. If you don’t need those resources or they don’t apply to you, if you, a friend/family member, or anyone willing to let you bum their amazon account has an Amazon Prime membership, then they have access to Prime Now. Just drop whatever spare change you have into a jar and don’t touch it unless you absolutely have to. Just keep putting the pennies into the jar. It takes a while but, overtime you can save up quite a bit of money. Just by saving the 50cents I would get every time I paid for lunch at school, by the end of the year I had thirty dollars saved up, and probably would have had more if I didn’t spend the change on snacks. Don’t discount saving your money and your pennies because “it takes too long”. Yes, it takes time and you won’t notice anything at first but it is still worth it and literally, every penny counts. Not saving because “it won’t amount to anything” or “it takes too long” to save is detrimental thinking. Who knows, after a month you may have 5 dollars in change saved up and that five dollars could buy you a pack of ramen or some rice when times really get hard (from personal experience). Just save the damn coins. Even if you only have one penny, put it in the damn jar.

Be smart. Being healthy on a budget doesn’t have to be hard if you figure out the resources. Being healthy on a budget doesn’t mean going out and buying the most expensive fruits and veggies (and doing that is like... the opposite of a budget), it means being wise with your money. If buying canned or frozen fruits/veggies is better for your budget than buying fresh, then buy canned/frozen. Being healthy on a budget means buying food and preparing meals that are meant to last. A meal that will last you 3 days because you were able to eat the leftovers for breakfast/lunch/dinner. It means using your coupons on things that you would buy anyways (such as canned goods, ramen, etc.) and it means actually watching what you spend. It means getting up and actually cooking once in a while instead of just ordering out or getting fast food. Yes, there are times when you just have to order out or get fast food to get through the day, but it shouldn’t be the everyday choice. If you are trying to be frugal and save money, first look at what you spend on food. Sometimes being frugal means eating the same thing daily or weekly. Being frugal means using your resources and figuring out more ways to save money, especially concerning food-- which should be ways of having meals that last longer. Don’t want to eat the same leftovers every day? Find ways of making different meals with the same ingredients, or putting your leftover ingredients into things like salads.

If you do nothing else but save loose coins and change without spending it unless you have to, you’ll make progress in saving money. The trick to saving money is to look at everything as it has a value instead of brushing it off as “Eh, its just a dollar” because quickly those dollars can add up and drain. You also need the willpower to actually tell yourself “No” when it comes to wanting snacks and junk food. 10 Ways to Get a Month Ahead of Your Expenses!

You know you’re getting the hang of this budgeting thing when your curiosity starts lingering over Rule 4, Age Your Money. If you’ve been around long enough, you might call 30-day-old money a ‘buffer’. If you’re my dad, it’s the “cushion”. Whatever you call it, it’s the ultimate pressure-release valve.

I mean, who wouldn’t love to pay bills, as soon as they arrive, without even batting an eyelash (because of course, you’ve got the money, it’s been in your account for a month!)? Nobody, that’s who.

But how can an ordinary person, with an ordinary salary, get one full month ahead of their expenses? Let’s take a look.

How You, Too, Can Have Old Money.

Unfortunately, you can’t simply take your dollars to the beach, sans sunscreen, and let the sun work it’s age-accelerating magic. You’re stuck waiting on the sands of time to get the job done. Luckily, there are unlimited ways to encourage those gainful granules to fall a bit faster. And here are ten strategies that I’ve used, myself:

1. Sell Stuff You Don’t Use

One time, I thought “To heck with stock photos! I want to take photos for my personal website, myself.” That thought lead to a pricey mistake, the purchase of a fancy-pants DSLR camera (read: dust collecting closet-space-taker). After a couple of years, I finally admitted that I’m cool with phone-quality photos. We aren’t all Ansel Adams, you know? Then, I sold it on eBay for the equivalent of half of my monthly rent. Not bad.

2. Cancel, Cancel, Cancel

This one’s obvious, but it gets really good if you can be merciless. I’ve dramatically minimized my monthly bills, by:

Cutting down to just one television-streaming subscription

Cancelling my audiobook streaming service (Many podcasts are free!)

Switching from a paid service to a similar, freemium service (or downgrading my account for more cost-friendly pricing)

Canceling my gym (Exercise is free!)

Using punchcards, not a membership, to participate in live yoga classes (mixing in free, online classes to space out those punchcard payments significantly)

3. Stop Ordering from Amazon

For predetermined periods of time, I’ll ban myself from ordering anything from Amazon. When online shopping is off limits, my impulse purchases plummet! Instead, use the “add to wish list” button. You can always buy things later—after you’ve comfortably aged your money!

4. Cook Your Own Meals

The degree of difficulty for this one depends on your lifestyle, but it packs a punch! Do some research for budget-friendly recipes, and you’ll really feel the difference. The light version of this hack? Just cut back. I did this while working at my old job—I limited my weekly lunch budget to half of what I’d been spending. You know what, it really wasn’t that hard! And it was so worth it.

Bonus: cooking at home can help you minimize your spending and your waistline.

5. Get Cheap, Real Cheap

Now, I know that some of you are very brand-loyal, but think about it. Would you rather pay more to bathe, or save that money and enjoy financial peace a decade early? If you peek into my bathroom cabinet, for example, you’ll note that my routine is simple. I don’t do a seven-step skin ritual at bedtime—I wash my face in the shower, that’s it, and my skin looks great!

And the products I buy? They’re all basic, drugstore brands. In fact, I’ve become such a cheapskate in this department that I top off my foaming soap dispensers with 90 percent water and a few squirts of the cheapest dish soap at the store. No, my hands aren’t dry, but they’ve got more dollars to play with.

If you rent, don’t decorate. Period. This is coming from someone who regularly gets compliments on my warm, inviting space. I don’t splurge on curtains, just the basics to keep things organized, functional and tidy.

8. Minimize Gift Purchases

People that love you will understand if you can’t participate in this year’s gift exchange. They want to see your face, and enjoy your company—that’s what really matters! I’m just waiting for questions I’ll give you guys a little bit of an update on I talked to Greg today and it sounds like, we’re going to be doing our webinar Greg Mercer for those of you guys don’t, you don’t know, is the CEO of jungle Scout so he made it founded it, here are going to be doing a live, webinar base, sickly going over you know, really deep, ways to use jungle Scout and do Park racer, search for Amazon, and if you guys don’t know he’s probably, she’s probably the most successful Amazon Seller, of all time, in my opinion, you killing it, he was the first person that I kind of started learning from and so I’m super excited, go over a lot of stuff with 10 asking really detailed questions about the software and things, like that, question 1 from, charles, when you search for a product in a successful seller storefront and track it in, I see something that looks good, then head to the main courses, see competition, how many, is too many, even though it’s selling, how many is too many I assume you mean sellers, i mean when you’re looking for keywords once you find a cool product in the storefront right, you want to look, for products that have a high volume keywords of the first thing I do when I find a cool product like that, is I go to, merchant words or whatever you use to, measure volume, i look for something that has you know over, 30000 to 50000 monthly, searches, and from there I kind of start to look at the competitive landscape right so if it has a high enough volume keyword, then what I’ll do is I’ll put that keyword into the regular Amazon search bar, and then I’ll start to look at that first page right so if you’re seeing a bunch of people that have a thousand 2000 reviews or something like that, It’s probably want to stay away from right but if you, see like 3/4, 5 different people on the front page of that key word, but you found associated with the seller storefront, right, and you’re seeing products on that first page related to that keyword that have no 40 reviews 30 or, anything like that, that’s definitely something that you want to, take a look at, you presently have any products that are oversized how is handling shipment, is it worth it if, if you have the capital in the prophet muscle, yeah definitely I mean oversized products, i mean like a map of the USA is technically a world oversized product depending on, you know, depending on how big it is but it’s about the longest side right so, It doesn’t necessarily have to be like a couch or something like that.

I like to have found, you know 10 products, right eye tracking to 50, I’m narrowing it down to 25 after you know 5 days, and then I’m narrowing It Down based on the competitive landscape based on the keyword volume based on, you know all the different things we talked about so often, panera that 25 down to 10, once I have those 10 you know I get the quotes from suppliers, i get the shipping cost per unit from my Freight forwarder, once I have that for the 10 I plug that into the FBA calculator, from that 10 I see that five of them have much better profit margins and then those are the five that I kick, i do this all in a 7, 214 day., and then I have those products you know on the assembly line, being sent, to America within that 2 week., right and then from that from there, you know but now you are profitable products, what are some of the biggest avoidable mistakes that you see beginners make and how can we be more mindful, That’s a great question Joseph I see people making two specific seller names often in this.

Instead of freaking out and sulking about his woes, though, Jabaley took a step back and breathed in some well-needed fresh air. He decided to frame this embarrassing flop as an opportunity to learn. And after some deep reflection and analysis, he dug up a silver lining that would eventually lead to a multi-million dollar model for merchandise design. The silver lining Jabaley plucked from the shambles of his failed campaign was realizing he needed to focus on his customers more. More specifically, he needed to understand their true preferences.

So rather than following the standard formula of merchandising — which was designing products based off a whim, buying hoards of inventory, and then marketing them — he broke conventional thinking by reverse-engineering the process. Before he bought inventory, Jabaley would post merchandise designs on Instagram and use follower behavior and feedback to help him scrap unpopular designs and turn popular designs into merchandise. 1. Design the job. Once you’ve decided that you want to use crowdsourced material in your marketing campaign, you need to decide what the job will be. Will you have consumers design an ad? Or perhaps they’ll help you create a new product, like Lays? Either way, your marketing team needs to design the job. This means that you’ll have to decide what you want your audience to do, and create an avenue for them to submit their entries. Once you know what you want them to create, you’ll have to come up with the rules, terms, and reward for winning the contest (if it’s a contest).
