O prazer foi enorme ter tido a oportunidade de apresentar o tambor de aço para o prefeito de Campinas - Jonas Donizette, e a sua Dama em 2014. Foi a primeira vez que eles tinham visto e escutado o instrumento na vida e fiquei contente que se maravilharam junto como todo o povo 😄! Toquei o 'Hino Nacional do Brasil' na abertura do evento e foi um grande privilégio tendo vindo de Trinidad e Tobago. Obrigada Brasil!!!!! 🎉👏 😙 ▪ ▪ It was definitely a pleasure to have had the opportunity to present the steelpan to the Mayor of Campinas (São Paulo) - Jonas Donizette and his Lady in 2014. It was the first time in their life that they had seen and heard the instrument and I was happy that they were mesmerised along with the other people there 😄! I played the 'National Anthem of Brazil' on the opening of the event and it was quite a privilege having come from Trinidad and Tobago. Link in my bio 👆 @solunacaribe **** Fun facts 🌸💬: Ipanema is a district located in the southern state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's where "the girl" came from. 😂 🌸🎵Bossa nova and jazz are not the same, contrary to popular opinion. Bossa is rooted in jazz however. It is like differentiating samba from bossa nova or blues from jazz. They are all different styles of music. 🌸🎵Now, both jazz and blues are like siblings, since they both originated around the late 19th - early 20th centuries in Southern United States (in places such as Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and "The Carolinas": North and South Carolina). 🌸🎵Bossa nova (or "new wave" / "new sound"), now, is like their younger cousin from Brazil. What makes bossa nova different is that it mixes the Rio de Janeiro version of samba [°there are many types of samba☺°] with American jazz (...and remember that jazz and blues are intertwined 🎶✌). 🌸🎵Now, all the music genres mentioned (bossa nova, samba, jazz and blues) are rooted in West African music culture and expression that came about in their respective countries and regions as a post-slavery alternative to musical expression. 🌸🎵At the same time (around the late 19th - early 20th centuries) the steelpan (or steeldrum, as many call it) also originated in Trinidad and Tobago with the same baseline of the post-slavery search for alternative forms of musical expression (other than traditional drums). 🔹Blues + jazz = African-American forms of musical expression 🔹Bossa nova + samba = Afro-Brazilian forms of musical expression 🔹Steelpan, calypso, limbo (a dance form) = Afro-Caribbean (specifically Afro-Trinidadian) forms of musical expression ...plus there is also reggae that is a part of the Afro-Caribbean music community (specifically Afro-Jamaican).
