Toronto Kensington Market Winter Solstice Festival & Spectacular Fire Show!

The Kensington Market Winter Solstice Festival began in 1988 and was first called the Kensington Market Festival of Lights. The festival was created by Ida Carnivali, who is the artistic director of the Kensington Carnival Arts Society. Ida was inspired by Commedia Dell’Arte, clowns, street performances, and large community and professional theater productions in the neighborhood.

Her creative ideas brought vibrant outdoor performances and a lively atmosphere to the festival, making it a beloved winter tradition in Kensington Market.

Well, welcome to my walking vlog where I take you through the Toronto Kensington Market Winter Solstice Festival celebrating its 35th year! This vibrant festival marks the official start of the winter season and honors the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. 🌙❄️

Just a few photos from the Winter Solstice in Kensington Market. I can't say I'm happy with the quality. I was using a Fuji X-T5 and found out my little external flash unit wouldn't fit the camera body. Sheesh😱 BTW I think the festivals have diminished somewhat since COVID.

Cat Sitting and Winter Solstice in Toronto

My friend went to Florida for Christmas so I got a nice cozy apartment in Toronto to myself and my favorite cat to sit. I went to the Winter Solstice Festival for the first time too. My camera is at the end of its life so I was only able to film a little bit of it because the battery is dying.

So back before Twitter got bought out there was this account called the sun of Toronto or something like that (not to be confused with the Toronto Sun) and it posted every day from the winter solstice to the equinox with how much longer the day was than yesterday and how much sunlight had been gained since the solstice.
