During the first Intifada (1987 – 1993), Palestinians boycotted Israeli goods as a form of resistance. Artists in their turn boycotted Israeli art supplies. Four Palestinian artists Vera Tamari, Nabil Anani, Tayseer Barakat and myself formed a group and called it the “New Visions” group. Artists turned towards their environment and used materials such as wood, leather, mud, henna, natural dies and found objects. This new approach helped to develop Palestinian art and formed a link between Palestinian art produced for several decades after Alnakbah and the contemporary art produced by young Palestinian artists.

خلال الانتفاضة الأولى (1987-1993) قاطع الفلسطينيون البضائع الإسرائيلية كشكل من أشكال المقاومة. وقاطع الفنانون بدورهم المواد الفنية الإسرائيلية. شكلت أنا وثلاثة فنانين فلسطينيين هم فيرا تماري ونبيل عناني وتيسير بركات مجموعة أطلقنا عليها اسم "رؤية جديدة". اتجه الفنانون نحو بيئتهم واستخدموا المواد مثل الخشب والجلد والطين والحناء والألوان الطبيعية. ساعد هذا النهج الجديد في تطوير الفن الفلسطيني وشكل حلقة وصل بين الفن الفلسطيني الذي أنتج لعدة عقود بعد النكبة والفن المعاصر الذي ينتجه فنانين فلسطينيين شباب. .

[Art & Education] Histoire de l’Islam par maître M. Racim

L’HISTOIRE DE L’ISLAM, miniature de Mohammed Racim

Ce type de représentation pourrait être aligné sur celui des manuscrits relatifs à la vie du Prophète (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) comme "la meilleure des chroniques” dont les variantes sont conservées en Angleterre et en Turquie, par la nature du sujet mais aussi par 52 disposition en registres.Le récit par épisodes successifs autour d’une figure centrale rappellent même certaines icônes russo-byzantines ainsi que les miniatures de manuscrits arabes comme les scènes du Livre des Antidotes on du Livre des Chants. 

Le déroulement de “L'Histoire de l’Islam” commence par la révélation par l'archange Gabriel de la Sourate Al Alaq symbolisée par le livre qu'il tient et qu'il montre de son index. Le Prophète (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) dans une position de prière se trouve à l'entrée de la Grotte de Hira. Un tête auréolée et enveloppés d'un nimbe flammé et rayonnant à Ia fois. On y remarque d’emblée les mêmes roches, les mêmes touffes d'herbe et les mêmes buissons persan que Racim utilise dans ses scènes de chasse ou dans son combat de cavaliers. L'attitude de l‘archange rappelle celle de relic de l'annonciation.

Le deuxième épisode concerne la première partie du voyage céleste nocturne du Prophète  (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) Al Isra, où l'on voit le cheval ailé, "le Boraq" à Ia tête de femme, suivant l'ange, qui lui montre le chemin. L'ambiance nocturne est savamment rendue par l'ombre bleue et les constellations dorées qui scintillent dans le Ciel. L'ange et le Boraq sont très beaux, juvéniles et gracieux, malgré leur somptuosité.

L'image suivante représente la Ka'ba au coeur de la Mecque avec Ibn Séoud, comme gardien des lieux.Ces images, des ex-votos populaires dont le Musée du Bardo possède quelques exemplaires, sont très répandues en Algérie, dans les maisons et dans les lieux saints et publics.

Le registre vertical est réservé aux scènes épiques des conquêtes de l’Islam : victoires, résistances, batailles, combats, scènes de cavalerie sur fond de paysages abstraits, que Racim réussit à traiter une à une, de haut en bas, dans une bande spatiale très étroite.

Le registre inférieur horizontal de gauche à droite comporte les moments les plus représentatifs et les hauts lieux des symbioses artistiques dont l’Islam était prodigue.

La première halte a lieu en Inde évoquée par le joyau de son architecture le Taj Mahal, devant lequel deux hommes s’adonnent aux deux plaisirs essentiels de leur temps, la lecture et la musique. Miniatures miniaturisées, les scènes épiques alternent avec les scènes de genre.

Une chevauchée effrénée de deux cavaliers relate l’entrée de Okba Ibn Nafa'a en Afrique du Nord. Ensuite devant une médersa maghrébine deux savants conversent autour d'alambics et d'éprouvettes, attributs typiques de la science.

Leur succède le Calife Omeyyade Abderah‘man le conquérant de L'Andalousie; à cheval avec son escorte. entrant solennellement dans la ville, réplique en miniature de scènes plus grande, dont lui même ou Yacoub El Mansour, le calife et mécène almohade, sont les personnages centraux.

Racim marque un arrêt dans la cour des lions de l’Alhambra que le gazouillis de l’eau, la douceur de la lumière, la présence de jeunes gens et les "arceaux qui chantent", remplissent de leurs échos. Ces compositions de groupe et la relation du maître à élève qu'on y observe proviennent du répertoire classique des manuscrits du Moyen Age.

La poésie, le luth, le décor réincarnent l'atmosphère de plaisir et de joie d'antan mais marquent également la fin d'une apothéose.

Racim montre de bas en haut dans le bandeau vertical de gauche les scènes de bataille où, berbères et arabes d’Andalousie, sont refoulés par les soldats espagnols vers le Maghreb. L’épopée se termine sur les rives d’Alger gardées par Barberousse moins majestueux mais plus protecteur. Derrière lui les rives du Bosphore, les coupoles et les minarets de Sainte Sophie, le portrait équestre de Soliman le magnifique, symbolisent la puissance de l’empire ottoman.

Il consacre les dernières compositions aux portraits d’Ibn Séoud et du Calife Abdelmadjid, comme dernières reliques de l’empire musulman.

Dans le double médaillon central bordé de cartouches ornementés et d’arabesques, Racim ajoute d’autres portraits phares de l’histoire de l’Islam. A gauche Haroun Rachid avec ses deux fils de part et d’autre,à droite Mehmed II le fondateur de l’empire ottoman.

Dans la marge décorative encadrant la composition, des légendes en Nasta’liq commentent successivement les épisodes.

Le répertoire complet de chevaux, de cavaliers, de scènes de batailles, de portraits officiels, de scènes de genre, évoquant la geste dc l'islam, est typique de l'art arabe et turc, du haut Moyen Age au début de notre siècle.

Des images aussi conventionnelles n'auraient pu être réussies sans le sens de la synthèse et le goût du géant de la miniature, qu'est Mohammed Racim.

RS Berkane crowned Confederation Cup Champions for the first time

Mohssine Iajour scored the lone goal as RS Berkane floored Egyptian debutants Pyramids by a solitary goal to clinch their first ever Total CAF Confederation Cup title, in their second consecutive final.

The ball ricocheted off the striker��s foot in the 15th minute, but it didn’t matter at all as it proved to be the golden goal, and perhaps the most important yet in Berkane’s history.

The Moroccans lost last year’s final on penalties to another Egyptian side, Zamalek SC, but they were in no mood of lighting striking on the same spot again as they ensured victory on home soil, seeing the atch played at Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.

Berkane had to finish the game with 10 men, just like in last year’s final, when Bakre El Helali was sent off for a dangerous tackle with two minutes left on the clock.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, they just but managed to stay afloat.

Debutants Pyramids had come into the final with enviable pedigree, having gone all the way to the last game of the campaign in their first ever season with only two losses from their last 15 matches in the competition. They had also won all their eight away matches this season, prior to the final.

But, they could not finish the job as the experienced Moroccan side held on for valuable victory.

In a feisty opening half, Berkane opened the scoring after quarter of an hour when a shot from inside the box after a goalmouth scramble came off Iajour���s knee and into the net.

It was a rewarding start to RS Berkane as they had shown intent and hunger from the word go.

After just 14 seconds, they had knocked on the door with Iajour’s header off an Omar Namsaoui cross went wide.

The experienced forward had come close again in the seventh minute when he did well to protect the ball inside the box, but his shot was well saved by Pyramids keeper Mahdi Soliman.

But as the game wore on, so did the Egyptian debutants slowly begin to pile the pressure and pin Berkane in their own half. They did well to camp in the opponent’s side and had their first real go at goal in the 24th minute.

Some good build up play with swift short passing released a cross to Omar Gaber who in turn teed the ball up nicely for Mohamed Farouk, but his shot was just wide.

The forward asked the questions again with three minutes left to the break when he dribbled inside the box, but his eventual shot once again failed to trouble the keeper.

In the second half, Berkane started with as much gusto as they did the first and just two minutes in missed a golden chance. Off a good sprint on the right, Bakre El Helali cut back the ball for Iajour, but the forward skied the ball over.

Sensing that they needed to fix themselves quick, Pyramids made a change in the 56th minute, bringing in Ibrahim Hassan for Ayman Mansour. Hassan was part of the Zamalek squad that beat Berkane to the title last season and Pyramids hoped he would work the same magic.

Pyramids kept the pressure and had another opportunity in the 62nd minute, but Farouk’s nifty touch off an Abdalla Mohamed freekick but the effort hit the side netting. They made another change, John Antwi coming on for Ahmed Hassan.

The Ghanaian almost made an immediate impact with an angled header off a Farouk cross, but it went just wide.

On the other end, Berkane had a chance to finish off the game when Hamdi Laachir was picked out with a precise through pass, but he blasted the ball over.

Pyramids piled in the pressure as they sought to get just one to get themselves back into play.

They were handed a numerical advantage when El Helali was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Gaber. However, despite all last ditch efforts, they couldn’t rescue anything from the game.
