To people of loved ones with poor memory:

It might be frustrating when they forget something (especially if it's important), but I can guarantee you that they are already beating themself up over having forgotten yet another thing. You don't need to rub that shame, embarrassment, and humiliation in deeper than it already is.

It is scary to forget things. It's humiliating to be told that the only reason we forget things is because we think nothing is important, that we're selfish and callous. Our brains are being pulled in every direction at the same time. It's impossible to keep track of this shit every picosecond of the day.

People like to conceptualize memory issues as a matter of lesser intelligence, that we're too stupid to even remember [minor detail]. I've noticed, though, that all of our brain power is kept toward other things - keeping ourselves alive, remembering a different thing, trying to regulate emotions or other disorders. Nobody seems to care that our workload is at least twice that of the "average" person's, I guess because they often don't directly notice it, or it doesn't directly affect them?

It's fine to be upset about the situation. You can't help that reaction, but you do not have to be cruel to people with memory issues, no matter the cause of it. Whatever they forgot might have been important to you, but there may be other things in that person's life that required their brainpower.

it’s less of a writing game today and more a writing question, but i’m curious: how did you come up with the idea to write your current wip? did you have a ship in mind and then find an idea that would work, or did you have an idea and then find a ship for it? if it was the latter, what other ships did you consider (if any)?

Hello my sweet darling angel light of my life Gi <3333 what a fun answer this will be :)

The idea for my current wip came from SOMEBODY posting a set of photos with some very interesting tags.

And then I, a certified figure skating fanatic, replied something along the lines of “don’t tempt me” and SOMEONE sent me more photos from this shoot and a formal request to write a skating au.

So from there I began brainstorming various prompts and concepts. It took me at least a week or two to settle on the current one (attempt 3), and lots of encouragement from @lady-assnali who is my #1 cheerleader always and forever

The concept actually was somewhat inspired by @aqpippin because I had recently read their iconic 5+1 goodecox story (post the last chapter I am BEGGING I am pleading I am on my hands and knees) and also I had a few key ideas for moments that could happen throughout and the story formed from there. I didn’t fully settle on the concept in its finalized form until relatively recently, but now that I’m almost finished I have a solid grasp on the idea 😂

It was always going to be crygi, since it is being written for a legend and icon in the crygi world, but it did break my heart slightly to make my first Olympic-centric story not rosenali. Also I was fully assuming I would give up and not do it since I had never written any of these characters before, but everyone has been so kind and encouraging and here we are, the finish line in sight :)
