Should I read Tevinter Nights?
Personally i recommend it because it was a blast to read and genuinely has some thrilling content, even outside of the games. the stories are incredible, each are pretty short so it's good side stories. If it is also something that can influence you, there's a lot of casual LGBT+ representation in it, multiple queer couples and even a nonbinary narrator/MC for one of the story.
In term of "is it required reading for da4" i don't know per se. DAI was following up on two of the novels written in between, and one of the novel is almost fully summarized in game, while the other isn't really summarized in details without specifically it being necessary for the plot (tho you'd be missing on fantastic character work). I played DAI without reading the novels at the time and i understood everything perfectly, but the insight given by the books was phenomenal and i was a bit sad when i read Asunder realizing i knew the whole plot lmao.
so if DA4 follows through with it, it probably won't make you feel like you missed something, will summarize what's necessary anyway at least.
That being said we know TN is extremely relevent for what DA4 is going to be.
-Lucanis is a main companion of da4 and has a whole story about a job going wrong in TN. It is also the story that will likely explain why he's in the situation he's in at the start of da4, and the story does explain to you how he got the nickname he got.
-Neve is also a main companion of da4 and has a whole story about a job in TN. This will also give a deep insight on who she is and how she works as well as some infos on Tevinter itself.
-Emmrich is also a main companion of da4 and he is a supporting character in one of the story of Tevinter Nights. It will give you a lot of insight on how he is, how he works, and what you can expect from him.
-We know the 2nd chapter of the game will bring back the characters that were involved in the first story of Tevinter Nights. If we go also by how the latest Comics (The Missing) showed others characters from others side stories helping out while they can, it's likely all of them will come back in some way or another.
-Some of the brand new monsters teased via concept arts a few years ago appear in the books as well. their stories are terrifying and give a terrifying insight on the lore that will be explored in da4.
-Dorian and Maevaris also both come back for one of the stories and indicate a lot about the changing politics of Tevinter. i'm convinced bc of it that Dorian is going to come back too, in due time, and i hope Maevaris too.
-The very last story of the book both is an indication on Solas' whereabouts as well as a bridge to explain the ending of the show Absolution, which in itself will likely be relevent to da4.
DA4 having its own main character i'm sure they'll take your hand through it and tell you everything you need to know.
but if you want a good taste at what awaits us as well as some information on Lucanis/Neve/Emmrich/Solas before going back to the game? it's a treat, honestly.

oh? tell me abt ilyanis 👀
hi thank u so much for sending me this!! okay
so, Ilyanis is my Inquisitor Lavellan. He's a mage, and naturally was the keeper's second sent to the Conclave etc etc inquisition set up for elf mages.
He's very blunt and honest, and just says what he's thinking all the time. He process things pretty quickly and thinks well on his feet, making him a good quick decision maker. He didn't hesitate to straight up say "Hey, I'm not a fan of being called the Herald of Andraste, I'm literally a Dalish elf, please respect my religion and boundaries." and he doesn't hesitate to just. say whatever is on his mind however it comes out
he's not mean, he's just completely tactless. and he has sooo many fun interactions with Vivienne and everyone else so well versed in stuff like. The Game in Orlais
he also had a small blind spot when it came to Solas, because he was an older elf who seemed to know so much about elven history and religion and he looked to him for advice and etc when he was unsure and you know. that ended well
(He's on the side of wanting to stop Solas, at whatever cost)
And hmm what else. He's unapologetically gay and trans, and bonded a lot with Krem about trans stuff; he fell in love with Dorian, and supported him through his journey; he had a rough time getting to know Serah because he's very elfy but she's kind of like a little sister to him
he was very pro Cole becoming more human if he wanted to, he's very pro Blackwall can atone for his mistakes, etc
he thinks people can change if they choose to. but it doesn't erase their responsibility for their actions
he hates the erasure of elf and dwarf and all cultures facing the continued conolialism and imperialism in the world
he ! hm
I've never talked about him before ao I'm not sure what all to say!! yells but thank u so much for asking, I took seven years to answer bc of school and work
I want to go play inquisition now jdjsjd

youre playing dai? what do you think of the characters and which ones youre favorite so far?
Uhmmmm let me see. I’m not super far. Been in Skyhold a little but not suuuper long. My favorite is probably Cole? I love and would die for the little ghost boy. He’s so odd but so GOOD and kind and very interesting. My little brother now.
Uhhh my Inquisitor and I don’t have the exact same opinions/I play as and make decisions as my inquisitor, not myself, because I like to create in depth characters when I play games like this (though we share an opinion on Cole more or less), but I’ll give my answers.
I like Cole the most, then Harding, Solas, Josephine, and Cullen. I like Varric a lot so far but I haven’t spent as much /time/ with him so far, but I expect he will rapidly climb the ladder. He’s a good dude and he loves Hawke and I love people loyal to their friends. Also he and Solas have both casually dropped into conversation Cassandra has threatened to torture them like wtf is wrong with that woman & I need to start a support group for my friends Cassandra is threatening to tie to a chair and take apart apparently. Varric 🤝 Solas: one thing in common and unfortunately it’s being kidnapped by Cassandra and threatened with bodily harm.
Uhhhh I hate the Chantry/that whole government, so I have reservations about people deep into that faith, but aside from that, I like Josephine a lot and she’s invaluable to the team. Level headed and funny, very smart, and weirdly chill. Cullen I didn’t like at first, but he’s serious about feeling awful about all he did and wanting to change and never be who he was again, and I deeply love characters who actually put in work to improve and face what they did. He’s like unlearning 18 toxic behaviors bc he was a horrible person, but he’s genuinely trying and you can see the effort. I appreciate he’s chill about Mages not trusting/hating him on principle instead of resentful, and he is also invaluable to the team. He and Josephine have /way/ too much asked of them, but deliver, and I respect that. Lilliana is cool too, but I don’t know her as well. I like that she’s friendly to the Mage cause.
Hmmm oh Solas. I thought he was super weird at first but he’s also got a lot of useful information, and he’s the only one who was nice to me for the first 30 hours of this game and that carried his ass a long way. I like he’s a weird ghost protector. Uhhh he did say something super mean to my boy like an hour ago so I’m waiting to see where that goes but almost everyone in this damn game has been xenophobic to me, even—actually weirdly /especially/—my only fellow Qunari. Anyway Solas. He’s nice to me 95% of the time and one of the only ones who shares my politics, and he’s very useful. Like ghosts too.
Speaking of my fellow Qunari. I don’t know tbh how I feel about Iron Bull. He’s cool, and I love how he treats his gang, but every time I really start to like him he calls my parents savages or something so you can imagine the distress I’m under.
Dorian I liked a lot in the quest he was introduced in, but then he got bitchy with me about saying the slave trade is bad and apparently thinks it’s no worse than just having poverty exist, and his family has slaves, so….
Vivienne I want dead in a ditch. She’s got the best fucking design of any companion and it makes me SO mad they gave her the worst imaginable personality I want to hit her with a blunt object until she ceases to be. She won’t even call Cole ‘he’, she’s specist, she’s terrible to mages, and a massive hypocrite who holds her kind to rules she doesn’t impose on her perfect self. She’s also smug and sanctimonious and self important and petty and hateful. Literally the only nice thing I can say about her life is she’s good at magic. I want her OUT of my fucking house.
Sera I like. She’s weird as fuck and kind of mean about elves or like, Dalish elves though?? Despite being an elf?? Don’t love that, but I do enjoy her general ‘I’m for the little guy’ attitude and she’s funny and she hasn’t been xenophobic to me so that puts her in a very small category of ‘I really appreciate that fam’.
Harding is very cool and nice and pretty and smart and mostly as far as she’s expressed solid politics too so like damn guys the whole package…
Blackwall I don’t know enough yet to have a real opinion except I’m very concerned by how ready he seems to be to throw himself on a grenade for the cause. It’s like he /wants/ to.
Cassandra…. : /. she has some traits in common w Cullen but instead of actively trying to improve she keeps saying she will and not and threatening other companions. I don’t despise her but she needs to get her shit together.
As far as non-companion/advisors go, I like Krem a whole lot, and Fiona is nice to me. I like the artificer but I haven’t known her long. I’m probably forgetting someone important. :’-) but there you go. That’s me so far. We shall see beyond. Thanks for asking!

Gamers For Groceries 2 event
A Twitch stream event from a few days ago. It can currently be re-watched here (it was fun & interesting, so I do recommend to check it out direct). This post contains some notes on things of particular interest & relevant timestamps, in case this is useful to anyone (for example bc of accessibility reasons).
First up is the All About Animating panel, a series of mini-interviews with game devs (animators) asking what they do, how they got there, and advice for anyone interested in getting into the industry. Some or all of the devs that were interviewed are currently working on DA4. They talked a bit about their day-to-day work and a lot about the craft of game dev animation in general. This segment runs from timestamp ~38 mins 40 secs to 1:07:50. Some notes:
[sounded like DA4] Right now the creature team are working on different creatures in a way which involves going through a lot of mocap data
At BioWare they have a pretty big technical animation team, to support their animators, so each tech animator has a different specialty. Tech anim involves animation support, character art support, and rigging the characters so that the animators can pose them
[not sure if re: DA4 work specifically, another project or a general comment on the craft] One of the featured animators’ area of specialty at the moment is faces and hair (building the control structure for face animations). First they had to decide how the face rig and its control structure would work. This involves a lot of performance capture of live actors for things like cinematics and gameplay animation, therefore the rigs for bodies and faces have to be able to accurately capture the full range of expressions and emotions that the actor is portraying. Right now the stage that this dev is working on most is setting up the heads that they’re getting through the pipeline from character art e.g. making adjustments based on feedback from the cinematics team. “Polish - just trying to get realism”
Hair tech has come quite a long way in the last few years [in the industry]
[not sure if re: DA4 work specifically, another project or a general comment on the craft] Hair is very complex to get right. “In the past most games have used card-based hair, which is basically like sheets of polygons with a texture on it that looks like hair, through layers of transparency. But real hair is strand-based, digital strands, so we’re starting to look into that kind of tech - try to get more realistic, more beautiful hair, but there’s always a performance cost to hair. Layers of transparent things are always an expense, they need to balance like, it looks good and moves well, but it doesn’t make your computer or console chug. [...] I guess we’re in the prototype stage but we’ve almost got a set pipeline. It’s always fun to experiment”
In Mass Effect 2 or 3, Miranda’s hair was as expensive as a whole character (!)
[on balancing hair costs/performance, general] It depends on things like character importance and how many characters are on-screen at the time. When you’re in gameplay fighting a bunch of monsters you’re not going to be giving full beautiful hair to all the characters and the monsters, as it will cost too much. (Having a helmet on is a convenient way to get rid of hair.) But if it’s a cinematic scene, with 2 characters talking to each other in a dramatic context, there’s a better budget for nice hair allocated
Some of the hair in Anthem was quite expensive in cinematics. They kept getting bugs from QA saying (for example) that a character’s hair was tripling the performance cost in the scene, so it would go back to character art so they could take away some of the hair cards. “Tough balance, quality versus cost”
“I wish all the characters could have beautiful strand hair”
For p-cap, a lot of the time they don’t want to be too prescriptive in terms of the direction that they’re giving the actors, as the actors know what they’re doing and have a lot of experience, so they give them vague instructions that they then riff off of
[sounded like DA4] They recently did a mocap shoot
[sounded like DA4] There’s a bit more productivity happening now in the pandemic situation; now that the animators are not all going to the capture lab in Vancouver in person for shoots, if it’s not their turn to direct a shot they can instead be working on something else on their computers (multi-tasking). ((Lead DA4 Producer Scylla Costa recently gave a talk at a games festival on the challenges of DA production during the pandemic. In part of this talk he talked about various benefits and drawbacks to the remote-working situation. He also talked about and showed some behind-the-scenes stuff for p-cap and mocap. Notes, images and link here))
[sounded like DA4] Special mocap suits were sent out that they can use with a laptop to go anywhere and shoot motion capture. It’s not as high fidelity as what comes out of the capture lab, but it’s really good for prototyping stuff. Before the pandemic they did some of this (going to a park and shooting some running around)
[sounded like DA4] In one of the shoots they had some actors who were really well-trained in dancing. They were trying to get them to do some combat stuff. This was a bit challenging in the pandemic situation as there’s only so much they can demonstrate/portray as an example to the actors from a distance on camera. “It’s hard to describe what a ‘dodge to attack’ is through the camera to somebody who has no idea what combat looks like in video games”
[not sure if re: DA4 work specifically, another project or a general comment on the craft] The pandemic has really affected performance capture for the face side of things badly, as in order to record, the actor gets dots painted on their face in specific locations by a makeup artist. They can’t do that right now because of social distancing/restrictions, so they haven’t been recording faces at the moment
The more detailed a face, the more joints it has, the more the cost to performance is
---
There was also the Writers’ Block panel, featuring DA writers Mary Kirby, Sheryl Chee and Patrick Weekes, and DA editor Karin Weekes. The timestamps for this segment are ~2:37:50 - 3:26:20. Some notes:
PW has never been weirder than when they were writing Cole on DAI
PW thinks that they accidentally wrote part of “Timber” by Kesha into Solas at one point and they were like “Well, okay, I have to stop listening to Kesha”
For Sheryl, after a while Blackwall’s VA always nailed doing his lines. She loved the quality of his voice and so after a while would always hear his voice while she was writing. This really worked out
^ Mary had this with Merrill. As soon as they cast Eve Myles she listened to several hours of her in Torchwood, and then just wrote to the way that she spoke as much as possible
^ PW had this with GDL as Solas and FPJ as Bull. As soon as they heard FPJ’s delivery, they were like “Oh, okay, I have to write some lines differently, because Bull is smarter than I realized”. With GDL they were like “Okay, he’s going to put poetry into anything I say, in the best way possible”. In early drafts of Solas lines there were parts where they [PW] wondered “Is this too melodramatic? Is this too tragically-angstful?” and then they would hear GDL and be like “Oh! [It’s fine] Game on!”
For localization, German words are often quite long so they often have to make sure that everything fits on the GUI
They think scenes like the romance scenes sound prettier in the Italian versions
Behind the curtain in creating the in-world languages: PW: “There are some awesome websites that have every elven word, like ‘Here are the translations and verb tenses and conjugations’ [etc], [...] and usually Mary and I get very sad slightly looking at those pages going like ‘Does that mean that we have to stick to that?’ [...] The rule is, if I’ve looked at the Wiki and the words, and I go ‘Here’s the correct grammatical way to do it’, and if that turns out to be too long or too many disconnected syllables and it just looks bad or sounds bad, then we shorten it to something simpler, because the key is we want to give the flavor of a foreign language, but we don’t have the world-building budget and capacity to make something that is going to be dictionary-real [in a way that] someone could go through and translate all the background things written on the old temple walls”. Part of the reason for this is the consideration for VAs, who already have to act while bearing lots of things in mind, like the cues in the script for each line
Mary: “For building a language, the first things that I started with for qunlat, elven and dwarven, was what words do we need to use the most? Greetings, farewells, words for friend and enemy, basic things that will come up easily in conversation. After that it’s ‘How difficult is this for other writers to use?’ Can they just pick it off the Wiki? Do they need just one word? Do they need to write whole sentences, and how does that work? Qunlat has almost no grammar to it because asking anyone to learn how to use Qunari grammar and conjugate verbs in a pretend language is impossible, and then once you’ve done that a human being has to be able to read it, while not knowing what any of it means”
PW: “One thing that I was really impressed with with Mary in particular doing, Mary was one of the big lore people across the entire DA series; I can look at a word and go like, ‘That has two A’s in a row, that’s definitely a Qunari word. That word is kind of long and maybe has some apostrophes and has a couple of flowy vowel sounds, that’s probably elven’, I think that’s what’s important. You want players to be able to look at a word, players want to feel smart, [like] ‘Oh I don’t know what that means but I totally know that’s a word from the Qunari people!’”. Mary: “Every language has its own set of phonemes, the sounds that they make, and the sort of word structure and spelling so that it gives a flavor to that language. Hopefully that is always chosen to be pronounceable, because again, very important that the words can be said by human beings :D”
Sheryl: “One of the fun things to do is to make up swear words in the fake languages [...] Recently Brianne wanted a word, I don’t know if she managed to find one”
The origin of bosh’tet in ME: it’s just saying “bastard” and slurring it
PW: “I feel like there are times when past writers kind of leave traps for future writers, where past writers will go ‘Okay, I’m going to write this detailed phrase in a codex entry but don’t worry, it doesn’t matter if it can never be said aloud, because it’ll never have to be voiced!’ and then, next game, guess what guys! Look what you have to make someone [a VA] say! And you’re like [facepalm], c’mon!”
Karin: “Now, four games in, we have pages and pages of all these examples, and I wanna say this, well that’s how we said something before, well that’s ridiculous, I don’t wanna say that, but now we’ve said it and it’s out there, so it’s like, how do we, y’know, how do we evolve, and sometimes we just go ‘Screw it! Languages are living languages! We’ll just say it like this now!’”
PW's favorite is the sarcastic Mythal’enaste, “Because it’s the sarcastic Mythal's blessing that basically means you’re getting screwed over somehow. I love it because Mythal nasty! Whoever wrote that clearly never thought that someone would have to say this out loud”
Sheryl wrote Bull’s joke icicles line. She also wrote Isabela’s big boats line - Jennifer took it out but then DG was like “No it has to come back”
They have a pun test, they get a few of them and have to allot them wisely so as not to oversaturate on the puns. “Is this good/bad enough to be one of the times that we pull the trigger? We did have one of those recently, I obviously can’t talk about it, but it was pronounced Okay to go ahead”
The ‘baby-est’ writer is Brianne, who’s been there 8 years
It makes PW sad that the players never get to see the writers’ temp-text [placeholder text when portions are a WIP]. “People have the best temp-text". Mary: “The number of conversations that I’ve temped in like ‘WELL. I hope nothing BAD happens HERE’”
Q. If you could bring in anybody from outside of gamedev, who would you like to work with and do a writer’s session with? PW: “I will say romance novelist Nora Roberts, she is really smart and also she knows how to write inside a genre, and do wonders within it. Her structure is so good. If you pick up one of her books, you know here’s when this is gonna happen, here’s when they’re gonna meet, here’s when this first moment will happen. We’re all experienced and I feel pretty good about that but I really like all of the things she does that way, and also I am a sucker for romance so I would love to bring a romance novelist in and just have them look at our scenes and go ‘Okay here, no, they should pull the tie so that the article of clothing comes open, we need a sense of how warm the skin is here’ - something like that. I’d wanna see what they could do with that”
“Luke writes the best worst lines”
“I’m always impressed with Mary getting away with lines. There are lines that I look at like, wow, you buried that one. [...] The only players who get that line, I feel like they earned it if they went that far into it. [...] And then Varric or Merrill says a ridiculous line in a one-time throwaway”
Karin: “The group dynamic, you’ll see conversations or snippets of a lunch chat or a thing we’ve been joking about and you’ll see it get pulled in, and how all of you [the writers] are able to take a normal kind of thing - as normal as we get as a group anyway - and then turn it into a moment, and use it to further the plot or use it to further a character. It’s just the cleverest thing and it happens in so many different ways. [...] The little snippet of life, then how you crafted it into this very cool thing”
Quartermaster Threnn was written by PW in half a day. “When I was writing Threnn, ‘Okay, this is a good-hearted [person], I was doing a little bit of Steel Magnolias, southern, no-nonsense, but like, blue collar Steel Magnolias’. This is someone accustomed to the ways of the world so she’s going to call a spade a spade. If you come up to her and you’re an elf she doesn’t recognize you and says ‘Buckets are over there’ because she thinks you’re there to clean, [but] ‘Anyone calls you a knife-ear you come to me I’ll take care of it’. It’s problematic but she’s trying - the good-hearted person rooted for the wrong group on every occasion. She was a proud Loghain supporter, she gets really exited if he comes to Skyhold.  That was a fun character for me to write because I had a viewpoint in my mind. I remember someone was like ‘Threnn is really important to me’. And you have to honor that, cause you’re like ‘Cool, it means so much to me that this connected with some part of you’”
---
Also of interest was the Mass Affection panel, in which BioWare devs looked back in over a decade of history to remaster a classic. It featured devs who worked on MELE. The timestamps for this segment are ~3:36:09 - 4:24:37. Some notes:
When the pandemic hit the MELE team were in a relatively awkward spot. They were really entering into what they consider full production and were on-boarding a bunch of teams, as well as training and on-boarding third-party external partner specialized teams worldwide. When the pandemic hit, BioWare and EA were super on top of it. They were tracking it weeks beforehand, getting everyone their computers ready, and getting everything encrypted. When the middle of March 2020 hit they were home rightaway. EA were nothing but supportive throughout the entire thing. They got money every quarter for stuff. It functionally ‘hit’ at 4-6 different times for them as the pandemic occurred in different places throughout the world at different times depending on each country’s response plan (and their external partners were in different countries). “So it was one of those things where it was just like, every day we’d come in like can we still work with this company anymore? Do we need to find someone else? Do we need to pull people in off the other projects at BioWare to fill gaps here and there?”
There was a bug on Virmire at the part when you’re coming into the STG camp. If the Mako had its new boosters on and you came hurtling in really fast, it cut to the cutscene, but the Mako hit a jump and when Ash was like “What do we do now?” the Mako ended up literally flying around in the background sideways and then crashing into the camp
Another bug: when they were re-tuning the guns, the physics force on some of the guns with Hammerhead rounds was so high that when you were fighting some of the Thorian Creepers, you could ragdoll them so hard that you could basically embed them in the roof. They’d be moving so fast that they’d penetrate all the walls with their legs dangling out. It was so easy to do and you could do it to everybody. You could launch a geth halfway across an Uncharted World
Another bug: with Shepard’s casual appearance in ME3, if you didn’t have it set up perfectly correctly it would default to Grunt for some reason. You’d be walking around as Grunt, going on dates as Grunt, and your face would be all scrunched up because it was all mapped to human bones still, so it was just, like, Nightmare Fuel of Grunt
Another bug: in ME2 on Illium when trying to recruit Samara, the Asari enemies just would not stop screaming - regardless of whether they were hit or not, it was endless screaming. Later one of the devs got an audio file of the scream, endless and looped, and now one of the devs has it on their phone and uses it for their morning alarm tone
“Shepard would come up to characters and they’d just be screaming”
---
There was also the Programming Variables panel, talking about what hurdles game programmers face. Some [or all?] of the devs that were part of this panel are currently working on DA4. They talked a bit about their day-to-day work and about the craft of game dev programming in general. The timestamps for this segment are ~ 4:24:46 - 5:06:02.

I was asked this on my old blog right as I set about transitioning to this one, so...
The first character I ever fell in love with: for DA:O, dare I say Daveth? What can I say -- I irrationally got incredibly attached to him. otherwise, DEFINITELY Morrigan, and I have crystal clear memories of my first run through Lothering and looking at Morrigan like 😍 the whole time. For DA:2/E, Carver -- unless you count Anders & Justice since I knew of them from Awakening beforehand, in which case probably Justice. For DA:I, it’s a toss-up between Vivienne or Cole -- I technically liked Cole first but SPECIFICALLY in the supporting material (Asunder), and didn’t vibe with him anywhere near as much in the game, AND I got him as a companion after I got Vivienne, so probably Vivienne.
A character that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I guess Oghren? I never loved him, but I liked the idea of him because I really liked the dwarves/Orzammar side of DA’s worldbuilding -- but he’s such an unlikeable character that I just.. don’t vibe with him at all. I debate recruiting him every single time now, and I don’t think I ever do his personal quest (in the base game OR Awakening). for DA:2/E, I don’t really have anyone that fits -- but I REALLY wanted to like Merrill and Aveline more than I did, and especially in Aveline’s case, I can’t stand her and genuinely think she’s the unintended, secret Big Bad of the whole game. for DA:I, probably Cole, bc I was really into the idea of a little walking-corpse serial killer animated by a spirit as per the book, but that’s not really the vibe in DA:I, and combined with the somewhat patronising/ableist language and how significantly he is infantilised (including by the fandom) I just got put off him. I do still like him, but not as much.
A ship that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I don’t really have one? I guess see my DA:I answer, lol... for DA:2/E, has to be Anders - I don’t think he’s OOC in 2, but I think his writing does so little with him and he feels v. reductive. Where his relationship could be SO interesting and angsty, it instead is written in a really dull and/or cringey way. It would have been nice to see Anders more like the Anders of Awakening near the beginning of the game (rather than random, infrequent and questionably rare snippets), and then see the progression of his relationship with Justice as the game went on -- I want more interesting abominations, PLEASE. for DA:I, listen I cannot express to you HOW EXCITED I was for my planned Lavellan to romance Sera… also I used to be way more tolerant of Cullen x Amell/Surana ships because, like, hey dark ships are fun, right? But since Cullen’s ~wholesome whitewash~ in DA:I, and his fandom clamouring to absolve him of any wrongdoing ever.. it’s boring to me.
My ultimate favourite character™: for DA:O, probably Sten? or Morrigan. They’re both fantastic, and also are significant comfort chars for me. for DA:2/3, honestly, probably my own Hawke -- I feel so hugely proud of her, and can’t imagine I’d enjoy the game anywhere near as much had I not played it as my Hawke. If not her, maybe Sebastian or Carver? for DA:I, I really love Vivienne, as well as Blackwall, and Solas is a great character even if I probably would not say I liked him.
Prettiest character: for DA:O, we all know it’s Zevran. for DA:2/E, I think Aveline -- although her aggressively bland colour-scheme lets her down in a major way (although I respect her dedication to all orange all day every day). There’s just something about her arms -- very Abby from TLOU:2. for DA:I, maybe Josephine? Ser Barris is very pretty, too...
My most hated character: for DA:O, I really didn’t like Alistair, Wynne and Oghren, and of my companions - Oghren is probably my least favourite. He’s vulgar and also profoundly uninteresting. for DA:2/E, it has to be Aveline. There’s just something about ineptitude and a complete, wilful refusal to take accountability for your actions that I can’t stand. It would be okay if it was an intentional character flaw, but the game/narrative treats her like she’s lawful good and it really annoys me. for DA:I, maybe Iron Bull? He was a huge disappointment for me. I also really dislike Sera, Cassandra, and Varric. I’m so sick of Varric - I never want to see him again.
My OTP: for DA:O, I really loved Zevran’s romance -- but I am also very amused by the fact that Leliana got to ‘love’ status with Kallian accidentally, AND I got the ‘love’ glitch for Justice (👀) and Velanna. I do sometimes wonder about an AU where Kallian is forced to make a politically expedient marriage with Nathaniel Howe for diplomatic reasons in order to consolidate her position as Arlessa, and it being an entirely platonic arrangement (it’s not like anyone expects an heir from an infertile Grey Warden) -- and maybe Zev and Nate kiss sometimes, who knows? I also LOVE my Darkspawn Chronicles AU where Kallian and Nelaros are a happy, married couple each hiding their skills with weapons from each other like dumb, cute sweethearts. They shelter Zevran when he fails to kill Alistair and a poly couple evolves. for DA:2/E, I love the IDEA of a Seb romance that isn’t so strictly conditional around the structures that abused him -- he should be allowed to love, chastely or otherwise, but free from the Chantry OR his position as prince/heir. I’d LOVE to actually have a romance with him where you can actually challenge the abuse he’s experienced. for DA:I, Malika doesn’t have a canon romance (although I think when I replay, I’m going to romance Josephine!) but I think Blackwall has an amazing romance. Solas’ is also iconic, it must be said.
My NOTP: for DA:O, I really dislike Alistair in a shipping capacity; he’s immature and says a lot of misogynistic shit and I don’t think he’s the worst for it, but I don’t really vibe with shipping him, having played the game as a female city elf. for DA:2/E, I wouldn’t say I have one, particularly? although I really dislike Aveline’s relationship with her husband simply because it seems incredibly inappropriate, given that they work together and she has power over him -- and because I dislike her, generally, I don’t feel inclined to do something nice for her. for DA:I, I suppose Sera/Lavellan -- although I’m not AGAINST it, it just really isn’t for me, having attempted it. I also don’t really vibe with Dorian x Iron Bull. Something abt the way the game handled BDSM and their relationship banter specifically I don’t really like.
Favourite episode quest: for DA:O, probs Orzammar/the Deep Roads. I really love the dwarven lore! and, of course, Fort Drakon is really funny, even though it’s not canon in my game iirc. for DA:2/E, maybe the murder mystery with the serial killer, where ultimately Leandra dies? I also really enjoyed all the companion quests. for DA:I, The Descent (just, all of it, lmao) and everything to do with the Avvar. Crestwood also BANGED.
Saddest death: for DA:O, it’s frankly a fucking INJUSTICE that Shianni gets murdered if you make her Bann of the Alienage -- the idea of that happening whilst Kallian is in Amaranthine and unable to protect her :( genuinely very upsetting. I go back and forth on who is made Bann, tbf, so idk how canonical it is: I think maybe Cyrion would get it, but I’m also endeared to Soris holding the position, with Shianni as Hahren. for DA:2/E, Bethany. I wish both twins had had the chance to reach Kirkwall :(. Let Leandra die instead. for DA:I, maybe not the saddest death, but the most memorable for me was that one sleeping dragon in the Hissing Wastes.. leave her alone. Stay out of a womans’ business.
Favourite season game: DA:O!
Least favourite season game: DA:I.
Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: for DA:O, Alistair. I cannot deal with his complacency and hypocrisy. for DA:2, I really disliked Merrill but I honestly cannot remember why. DEFINITELY Varric -- I hated how the game forces you to be his best friend, and if you’re low approval, you have to endure these pointless pissy little comments with this little anti-dwarf centrist pissant. After the expedition, I literally have no reason to put up with him, and I NEVER take him out. I hate that he plays the same role in DA:I, too. for DA:I, the Iron Bull was hugely disappointing, and I also really don’t vibe with Cassandra. She just seems very wishy-washy and complacent and hypocritical, and many of her comments about other cultures seem snide for literally no reason other than bigotry.
My ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: for DA:O, lbr probably Sten. Mans is gonna launch a HORRIFYING invasion in the next game iirc and frankly, I’m ok with it. Just wanna see that big bastard again ❤🥵. for DA:2/E, I LOVE Gamlen, ok? for DA:I, I am not sure if I have one.
My ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: for DA:O, if any of you so much as LOOK at Velanna wrong, it’s hands. That includes Bioware. I also feel incredibly protective of and sad for Morrigan. for DA:2/E, probably Sebastian -- I feel so sad for him, and so frustrated by the limitations with the game. for DA:I, I’m honestly not sure.. maybe Josephine? I don’t really feel this way about Sera, but I do think she deserves better from the game and its writing, and also from fandom: there are valid criticisms of her, but the hate she gets is not proportional to any valid issues with her -- and gee, I wonder why that is.
My ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: for DA:O, I did use to find Cullen x Surana/Amell intriguing as a dark ship -- I actually hc that Neria Surana is actually Nelaros’ sister, and have dabbled with it as a dark ship. I also am interested in Loghain/Alistair - which each pretends the other is someone else. Alistair is wooby, hate ships are, in general, fun -- so long as we acknowledge that they are, indeed, unhealthy ships. for DA:2/E, I kind of feel like Sebastian romances are, invariably, kind of dark... and, similarly, Anders romances -- especially with certain red Hawkes, The way it ends is, invariably, bordering on fucked up. ALSO Hawkecest is weird and wonderful: GET WITH IT.
My ‘they’re kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but I’m not too invested’ ship: for DA:O, I joked about Velanna x Leliana once and I’ve not been able to stop thinking about it ever since… Velanna x Sigrun is also something that can be so personal. Ariane x Finn is adorable and are paid DUST by Bioware AND fandom. I actually am really into Anora x Nathaniel & NO I will NOT explain myself; it’s a crackship but it’s MY crackship. for DA:2/E, Isabela x Fenris is super cute, but I don’t pay enough attention to them to really have super committed thoughts & feelings on them. for DA:I, Blackwall x Josephine is cute as a background ship; I also think Maryden x Cole is sweet.

okay this is truly too many questions but for the fic asks, #1 + whichever of #2, 9, and/or 10 you want to answer for "and at least in this lifetime, we're sticking together" and "on this winter's night with you"??? (also i hope you're having a great day sav!)
sola there is NO such things as too many questions i am DELIGHTED and HONORED
1. Of the fics you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?
this is. the impossible question lmao!! i've written so many fics and i love a lot (not all) of them for different reasons but uhhhhh one of my top favorites is probably and in my chest, you knew me best (fig/fabian lounge singer au) just because it really was a labor of love and borne out of a very niche idea and endless encouragement from my lovely friends and i really think it came out how i wanted it to and its something I'm really proud of and like to reread <3
[and at least in this lifetime, we're sticking together]
2. Which scene was your favorite to write in [title of fic]?
this fic is so short i don't know if it counts as a scene (and I don't remember writing it well enough to know which was my favorite to write) but this paragraph always hits me in my feels bc of the deep found family of it all.....
Mario was a dick, but she has Pete, who offered her his shoulder to cry on and his room to crash in any time she needs, no questions asked. Her father was a piece of shit, but Kingston promised to help and advise in any way he could, as vox, as a nurse, as a voice of wisdom. Her aunts and uncles and cousins avoided her like the plague, but Iga’s hand is warm on her shoulder, and Sofie saw how she was with Jessica and Nick, knows that Iga can help her though all the pitfalls of young motherhood. She has Rowan, a real life fairy godmother, and future (former? both?) Broadway legend to boot. She has Ricky and Esther and even Cody (who she won’t ask to babysit until the kid is old enough to know better than to break into the mall). She has her mom, who will love this baby until the end of the world. She has herself.
Motherfucking I’m here, she hears, echoed on the wind.
9. Which idea came to you first in [title]?
i don't really remember! this was a prompt (day F- Family) for the d20 alphabet prompts back in febuary and i think i liked the idea of leaning into sofia's feelings on being estranged from her biological family, but finding a much better and a much more supportive family in the unsleeping city w the rest of the dream team <3
10. What are some facts readers may not know about [title]?
uhhhhhhhh I don't know? this one was really short and written really fast for the d20 alphabet prompt for the day and so there isn't a lot of secret lore lmao <3 i just love sofie bikes and specifically the scene w her and pete in the bathroom in nod in s2 where she's taking a pregnancy test and he's flushing drugs is just. so dear to my heart
[on this winter's night with you]
2. Which scene was your favorite to write in [title of fic]?
again, not technically a scene but.... ohhhh.... they <3
Sofie twisted around in his arms, pressing her hands against his chest- god he was buff- and smiling up at him, washed in pale white moonlight. “Wake me up,” she interrupted, ever so gently. “Next time, you can’t sleep, you see deer, whatever it is; wake me up. I wanna-” ach, god, the paranoid voice spat, don’t be so vulnerable, that’s how you get hurt- “I wanna see everything with you. That’s what this is, right? We’re all in?”
Dale’s face was impossibly gentle. He slowly raised a hand and traced her cheek with his thumb. “Yeah,” he said, sounding almost breathless, “yeah. I’m all in, Sof.” She leaned up on her toes without a second thought, catching his mouth with her own. It was good; it was always so good, like they were meant to fit together like this. “You know I love you, right?” Dale broke off after a few minutes, definitely sounding breathless this time. Sofia nodded, pursing her lips against the cocky, proud smile she felt rising up in her chest. She loved it when he said it, even a hundred times later. It always sounded like it was the first time, like he meant it with everything he had. “You’re it, Sofia. You’re it for me.”
Oh.
9. Which idea came to you first in [title]?
this was prompted by the ever wonderful jack @gendermybeloved to write sofiedale + "why are we whispering" and i remember immediately knowing I wanted to write something with them quietly watching the deer in their yard in the middle of the night! and the rest of the fic (sofie waking up alone, discovering dale, their quiet conversation) came from that!
10. What are some facts readers may not know about [title]?
this is kind of inspired by my real life! i mean, nothing this sweet or romantic like this has ever happened to me, but I live in a really quiet, heavily wooded neighborhood and there are ALWAYS herds of deer coming through our yard from the woods that surround it- its like a daily occurrence and has become so normalized that it's always kind of funny when friends come over and see the deer and are like "oh my GOD savannah look at the DEER!" and it always feels to me like they're saying something like "oh my god look at the TREE IN YOUR YARD" like. yeah bestie i know.
but! its fawn season and there have been a handful of the TINIEST BABY DEER coming through our yard this year and they're SO sweet and its always kind of lovely when someone in my family sees a really big buck or a little baby fawn and calls the family to the window or to the door to see and we all kind of. awwwwwww. abt it anyway this got wildly out of hand but tldr yes. seeing deer together is something that can be so personal actually <3
send me fic author asks!!

Name ten favourite characters from ten different things (books, tv, film, etc.) then tag ten people
I was tagged by the dear @gffa who clearly enjoys making these lists and seeing everyone else also struggling with just choosing ten. It’s hard but I shall do my best sdfk <3
1. Lara Croft - Tomb Raider Okay, let’s just get it out: I prefer reboot!Lara. idk I know some people think she sucks and the games suck for whatever reason, but I found the games and their mechanics super fun, and Lara’s story really compelling. She was a young girl who was determined to make her own way in the world, and instead went through something extremely traumatizing. She kept pushing through, kept getting back up no matter what the world threw at her. She went on this clear journey that was compelling and fun and messy. She wasn’t perfect. She pushed people away, she fucked the world up because she was determined to find the answers she felt would make all she went through make sense. Her survivor’s guilt was present really well in RotTR but most especially in SotTR. People were dying but she was so focused on finishing her personal mission. She was numb to it despite the fact it still horrified her. And her arc ended well. She finally was able to reach a place where she was able to let go of her losses and try to join society again. And I’m gay for her. So, you know.
2. Senua - Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice I cannot recommend this game enough. It’s tough to play bc it’s not just a horror game but you feel a lot of Senua’s anxiety, which is part of the point to the game. Senua’s a Celtic warrior who suffers from psychosis, and the game devs worked directly with both professionals and those who experience psychosis. There’s a whole mini doc to it which is great, even if you can’t stomach horror. You’re in Senua’s head with her throughout the game. You see what she sees, you hear all she hears, and she talks to you directly at times. But the beauty of the game is Senua’s true journey. She goes on a quest to try to rescue a loved one she lost to Vikings, but the real story is about a girl realizing she’s not a monster for seeing the world differently. That the abuse and ableism she faced weren’t her fault at all. There’s so many little things I can point to in this game that just made me so emotional, and it’s such a beautiful and necessary story to tell. Senua is great and deserves a hug.
3. Anakin Skywalker - Star Wars If you asked me at what point in my life Anakin became one of my favourite characters, to the point I frequently talked about him even on my main blog at random intervals, I couldn’t tell you. I haven’t the faintest idea; he just was. And if you asked me why he was a fave early on, I also couldn’t tell you lmao. It might partially be that I grew up on the prequels, and maybe at such a young age I didn’t really grasp at first that this was a story about a guy who was already revealed to be a villain, but I haven’t the faintest clue. He just is now, and I’m so passionate about his story. He’s complex and difficult and written so well. You want him to be happy, you feel heartbroken seeing a good character fall so deep, and you want to smack him upside the head a whole lot. You laugh at his silly dialogue (which he has as Vader too smh), you cry when you see him struggling, you become horrified by his actions. His story’s also a great inversion of the Chosen One trope - whereas usually we see Chosen Ones struggle, become imperfect and undoubtedly traumatized, they remain heroes the whole time. Anakin doesn’t. He becomes the bad guy, one of the worst in the series (Palps takes the award tho). But even then, when you think this guy has nothing to offer but an intimidating villain, he’s shown to have good. And then we see how much good he had all along, the good he forgot and was punished for and hated himself for. His heart that had good intentions but he chose the worst actions. He’s complicated and I love him. And more over, I love how many people who struggle or have mental illness can relate to him. I love that he wasn’t treated as a guy whose actions were glorified, but that were honest in both the good ones and the bad ones. Anyone can fall, and anyone can get back up, if they choose to. I just. Love him. He means a lot.
4. Commander Shepard - Mass Effect I know that Shep is technically the player’s character and can be any combination of person, but anyone who’s played Mass Effect would get why they were put here. The original trilogy for Mass Effect touched on so many things, and was a really emotional one. You had your great moments with friends, you had your struggles against both unknown horrors, and horrors close to home (so to speak). There are so many small moments that stick out to you, and idk how many people can say that playing this story didn’t impact their life in a meaningful way, bc I can’t see how it couldn’t. I’ve played the games many times, but even after all of this, there are moments that I not just still get emotional to, but take on new meaning as I go through my life. And Shepard’s the hero of the story. They’re not perfect, and they can downright be an ass if you play them that way, but their story is one of perseverance, of fighting on even when entire worlds are being lost and everyone is still looking to them. Everyone needs them to find a solution. But even then, it’s a story about friendship too. About tons of amazing characters that all have their own motivations, their own pasts and goals and hopes and failures. About how all these varied characters become a found family. And so Shepard’s the hero of the story, but their companions aren’t just there to be sidekicks, but end up with all their own accomplishments and arcs and you go on this journey with all of them. idk the whole series is great dsalkkljads
5. Lexa & Clarke - The 100 Let’s not talk about how terrible this show got and how messy it was because we all know. But it started with a really compelling story that was interesting, and to see two characters on screen who were flawed but understood each other, and to have them both be women - one who was a lesbian and one who was a bisexual?? It made me so excited and it’s a really flawed show but it meant a lot to me at the time to have a couple like that on a tv show, and so despite all its flaws, that relationship still means a lot to me.
6. The BAU team - Criminal Minds Yeah, I put the entire friggin team down, and that means all of them. There was only maybe two or so characters that were on it I didn’t like so every iteration is put down. Criminal Minds isn’t exactly a complex show; it’s a typical crime drama, and its unique feature is that it looks into the behaviour and minds of criminals instead of finding the science, like we saw with CSI. But the episodes were compelling and entertaining to watch, and, what do you know, there’s a found family at the center of it all and naturally I’m a sucker for it. Strangely enough this show is kind of a comfort one to me, bc it’s entertaining but not always overwhelmingly emotional. I can put it on at any time and just have it on in the background, or when I’m not feeling well, and I’ll enjoy myself. Also strangely enough, I’ve seen almost every episode enough times that there’s a game in my house to see how long it takes for me to recognize the episode and its plot once a rerun is put on lmao. There’s a lot of good shows like this out there - I enjoy SVU a lot too - but something just draws me to the characters on this one. We’ve been with them for, what, 14 seasons?? And we’ve seen them go thru some shit, we’ve seen them grow and change and they’re all really unique. It’s not a complex show but it is good enough to just binge. A part that plays in it is probably the time in my life I started getting into it too, but I’m alright with standing by it.
7. Korra - Avatar: The Legend of Korra I probably don’t need to wax poetic about atla or atlok much at all. I just love her journey, as a brash and overconfident girl who realizes that being the Avatar is hard, the people expect so much and there’s a lot put on your shoulders. That, when things go wrong, people will blame you. She went and became this giant blue monster thing, but her struggles were all human. Her PTSD was shown really well, despite it being a kid’s show. She’s fun and her journey is lovely and it’s definitely true that Korrasami did it way better, and both characters are bi women too (◡‿◡✿) We Do Not Talk About That Dumb Love Triangle Nonsense Though
8. Chloe & Max - Life is Strange What can I even say about this game? I don’t know. If you’ve played it, you’ll know why it’s here. It’s.... way deeper than you’d think it’d get at first. I love the story, and I love the journey Max and Chloe go on together. I love their friendship, how Chloe was always trying to uplift Max and encourage her to follow her dreams, and Max just doing the impossible for Chloe. I love their relationship, because it was built on support and love and struggle. I love their complexities, their flaws, their strengths, their times together. I just fskljdjlksfd love them, I love this game and all its various stories and character arcs. It’s all so beautiful and raw and unique and yay, another pair of ladies loving each other is on this list.
9. Solas - Dragon Age: Inquisition Okay. There’s a TON of characters I adore in Dragon Age, and to be honest, I don’t know he’d be my absolute top one. But I do like his story. I love Dragon Age companions, because, like in Mass Effect, they’re all their own characters with their own stories and journeys. Solas is flawed. Like, really flawed. Here’s another guy on my list who went and fucked up the world a bit. His worst actions (and the consequences of them) were built on good intentions, on his desire to help his people. We can get into the way this direction BW went with the elvhen religion was icky, but it’s a different conversation. I adore elvhen lore and I love exploring theories on it all the time. For Solas, I just like that he’s complex. I mean, he’s still silly and kinda weird, and he loves to hear himself speak on topics and loves Lavellan for encouraging him to never shut up, but most of all I kind of like their relationship? A friendship with Solas is still great, but I like that it’s an asexual one (don’t fight me on this, idc, it’s how I see it). It’s soft, built on mutual respect, one with no pressures or expectations. Solas asks for time and Lavellan gives it. There’s no fade to black s.ex scenes that so many times aren’t optional in BW games. I just really like my asexual wolf god egg ok
10. Mulder & Scully - The X Files Okay, it’s super hard to choose characters for this holy heck. BUT I really, really, really love their relationship. Mulder is an idealist who believes in the supernatural, and Scully his pragmatic scientific counterpart. And we could talk about how Scully’s character as a woman in science meant to a lot of people, and how Mulder’s tenacity to not give up on his beliefs is a nice one (when it’s not getting him into trouble). Their relationship is the slowest of slow burns in television history, I think. But it’s good that way. Scully starts out thinking Mulder’s just a delusional guy, one who’s intelligent but wastes his accomplishments, and he knows that. Then they go through shit, they’re a team and many times it’s them against a whole bunch of unbelievable stuff (and their own government). What I loved most was also their son, and I’m literally deleting all knowledge of the new seasons from my brain bc I think it was gross and took away from the story, but I liked that they were so close, loved each other so much despite there not really being a romance yet, that Scully trusted to go to Mulder to donate to her bc he was the only one she could think of for this. It’s another asexual relationship on screen, and it’s built on a love that happens over time. I just fljksdfkjl could go on about it too.
-
This was hard lmao. I wanna give an honorary shout out to Peggy Carter since she had wonderful lines like: “I know my value. Anyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter.” Which is *chef’s kiss*. Peggy was the true unsung hero of the MCU and they gave her and Steve a weird ass ending.
idk who to tag bc I’m not sure who’d be into this, but if you’re willing, I’d love to hear from @sapphicfinalpam, @mariaromanovs, @vinterskald, @zombiefishgirl, @nb-aziraphales, @serkonans and anyone who feels like doing it. Feel free to obvs ignore this, or only make a list without rambles, idk. I am never too sure about who’s into this or not, but if I didn’t tag you and you wanna do it, you can just say I tagged you and I definitely wanna read what you have to say!

who are your favorite da lis??
Oh my GOD okay this is so difficult! I'll try to limit myself to 2 per game because my warden/hawke/inquisitors only have 2 hands (okay well maybe not the inquisitor BUT STILL)
Origins - I always tell myself that I'm not gonna romance Alistair, but then he hits me with the whole giant dumb puppy thing and I lose my resolve. He was my first real videogame romance, and I just love that biracial half elf boy so much. Occasionally I can ignore him long enough to catch up with Zevran, and then it's 24hr Zev lockdown, especially if I'm playing as Tabris or Brosca, bc I just think they'd deeply appreciate a partner they feel understands them. (Honorable mention goes to Sten here, bc the game won't let me but on god I would in a goddamn heartbeat. Alistair whom'st??)
2 - Isabela and Fenris all day. I haven't played 2 nearly as much as the other games, so I've been meaning replay it soon, and if so I'll probably romance Merrill (who wins this round's honorable mention). I never rivalmance anyone, because I'm too scared to be mean to videogame characters; and while I get that they were trying to present a greater variety of relationships, the idea of being anything other than adoring and supportive of your partner is uhhh super not my thing tbh
Inquisition - Okay so this one's wild to me, bc when the game first came out I woulda said Solas and Cullen. Then Trespasser came out, and boy that sure was something. Then I saw a lotta stuff about Cullen, realized I'd never played Origins as Surana before, gave that a shot and realized, "Oh, hey, fuck that guy." But the good thing about these revelations was that it gave me an excuse to replay this enormous fucking game and try some of the other romances! So now I am extremely very much in love with Josephine, my darling wife. I'm also in the middle of a Blackwall playthrough, which is much more enjoyable than I was expecting? Admittedly, I modded his beard away, which is probably some kinda fandom blasphemy but at least I don't cringe every time Adaar smooches him. (Honorable mention to Sera, the light of my life, because she's perfect and beautiful and lovely but her writing is so infuriating that I can't really enjoy her romance. Fuck you Kristjanson)

tagged by: @falkreathh thank you!!  sorry for doing this so much later u_u’ tagging: whoever wants to!! (◡‿◡✿) 1. favourite game in the series ok... i don’t know if you already figured it out but my total fave is dao. why? maybe is the nostalgic feelings this game gives me or... i played it so many mcfucking times that i just get this hollow feeling inside my chest when i haven’t played it for weeks... idk. the trespasser dlc was spectacular too and gave my lavellan a lot of personality (what i thought the dai base game lacked, bc it made me feel like my inquisitor was an empty shell with no personality, solas’ romance save the dai base game to me tbqh). but... you can create such complex personalities in dao for your warden, and the relationships are so so realistic. i think (dao) is neat lmao.
2. how did you discover dragon age? before being a dragon age fan i was a dark souls fan; i breath dark souls, i read dark souls, i ate dark souls, i was quite obsessed with dark souls, and before dark souls i was an obsessed skyrim fan (oNLY SKYRIM, not the previous games ashdgjasdgh) and with skyrim that was the first time i made video game oc's, like... they had such complex personalities and i cannot make complex character now... aNYWAY i'm getting carried away: i knew dragon age bc dai was being lunched and ALL the people i followed reblogged stuff about dai, and then i bought dao and loved it!!
3. how many times have you played the games? hfgsdjfhsjfshd fffUCKKKK SHITT... alright... many mANY TIMES, but how many times i haven't finished my game?? countless times!! i think i finished fINISHED dao maybe... pls don't laugh at me... 10+ times. yes they are so so so many times, shame on me! shame on my cow! blah blah, but i lOVE dao. da2 maybe.... 3-4 times? and dai 6 times?? it's funny bc i played dao and da2 in many different ways but dai... m8, always the same, fuck you solas sdhfjdshjsdf 4. favourite race to play? qUNARIIIII!!! i lOVE tieflings so.. i obviously love the qunari too, but in the dai the first race i chose was qunari but then i talked to solas and i was like... bITCHHHHH i'm gonna create an elf to romance this egg, and then... my canon inky became an elf lol. and last favourite race are humans... ok don't hate me, it's not bc they are """boring""" or shit like that, it's bc they are the upper-class of thedas and i LOVE the "from zero to hero" trope... so... yeah agfshsdfhj 5. favourite class? mages!! bc i love the lore behind this class, it's fantastic, precisely blood magic. but if i didn't care about this, i would choose archer, tho in the first games it sucked but in dai is pretty cool :^) 6. do you play through the games differently or do you make the same decisions each time? as i've said before i have made many different decisions in dao and da2 but in dai are always the same lol 7. go-to adventuring group? origins: alistair/sten, morrigan, zev/leliana da2: aveline, anders, isabela/varric dai: solas, cassandra, cole/sera 8. which of your characters did you put the most thought into? i think prim/anika??(they're the same but one is a human and the other an elf lmaoo), she was my first da oc, and obviously the one i put most thought into bc i uSED to have a lot of creativity some years ago, what a pity my brain is useless now lmao 9. favourite romance? pfffff... solas, alistair, leli and cass!! i think?? idk i gotta play again dai bc i'm not sure :/ 10. have you read any of the comics/books? i've read aLL the books but not the comics :/, i want to read the comics but idk where i could read them online and free (sorry i'm poor lol), so... mi gozo en un pozo lmao 11. if you read them, which was your favourite book? my fav book was "the masked empire"!! patrick weekes is a good writer and i loved the orlesian politics, and i adored seeing these characters in dai! (tho briala was whitewashed lmao) 12. favourite DLCs? obviously: awakening and trespasser. these two dlc's were mcfUCKING AMAZING. i mean, with dao i expected the same quality of the base game, but trespasser was such an excelent and good experience, it gave a lot of insight to our inquisitors and also: sOOULASSSSS, so yep! i mainly lOVED trespasser and i hope weekes guides the team to make a game at least as good as this dlc! (tho, if ea is a greedy bintch this time [as always lol] it doesn't matter how many times the bioware time tries, ea will force them to do a shitty game :/) 13. things that annoy you how viv, anders and sera are written, i mean, i loved anders the first time i played da2 but his personality is obviously written to annoy the fuck outta you, tho i loved how he expressed his ideals freely (tho sometimes he even seemed too traidtional to me about topics like blood magic :/), but sera and viv were a lil harder to befriend and like, and i still don't like much viv, but i love her as a character, y'kno 14. orlais or ferelden? tbh, if i gotta live in one of those two places i would choose ferelden by fAR. but, now, if we're talking about which is more interesting; orlais. 15. templars or mages? like @/blckwall said: all templars are bastards :). i would love if thedas had independent magic schools, that there were no higher representatives or charges, that every village or city had its own magic school, and the crown would be the responsable of manage its needs. i haven't thought much about this so my thoughts are quite vague :/ 16. if you have multiple characters, are they in different/parallel universes or in the same one? they're from different universes, tho i'd love the idea of all of them being in the same universe, but some worlds states are incompatible with others. 17. what did you name your pets? (mabari, summoned animals, mounts, etc) in dao: barkspawn (i'm extremelly predictable, sorry u_u') 18. have you installed any mods? all my dragon age games are modded as fUCK. i mean, i think dao is the most heavy modded game i have?? (mainly bc i cannot install many mods in skyrim lol) but when i have my gaming computer again i will mod the shit out of dai >:) 19. did your warden want to become a grey warden? prim had been working in the circle her entire live to be in the higher ranks, and then she saw how all her work was lost made her really conflicted: she didn't wanted to leave bc she yearned to be more powerful and make the circle a better place for mages (yep, she's deeply anti-circle bc of her traumatic past), and she was going to die if she refused duncan's offer. even so, she was never sorry for supporting jowan. and, she became the king of ferelden's mistress; she loved him obv, but she could also take some advantage of his power to make the mages and marginalize people's situation better, and gain fortune by that; alistair was well aware about her plans by prim's words herself, but he never objected. altho the main cause prim made alistair king is bc she wanted him to have a good life and not waste it as a grey warden, so... anyway, i got acrried away... this is long af ghdjsdgf 20. hawke’s personality? red mostly, tho he used to be purple/red in the first and begining of the second act :/ 21. did you make matching armor for your companions in inquisition? yes i did!! i lOVED to be fashionable in dragon age instyle!! 22. if your character(s) could go back in time to change one thing, what would they change? prim : she would have tried to convince jowan and wait some months until she could convince him. also: sometimes she wishes she didn't make alistair king, mostly bc of her daughter (her daughter is the only heir to the throne of ferelden, and basically she doesn't even know that prim is her real mother, mostly bc anora adopted her bc alistair and she couldn't have children), sometimes, in her alone saddest times, thinks how things would have been if alistair was still a grey warden, they would have a happy family and wouldn't even had to hide inofensive stuff like a cheek kiss. but anyway, her duties as a grey warden are more important and doesn't have time to think about it. garrett hawke: he regrets not defending carver, he would have prefered to sacrifice himself instead of any of his siblings. he also regrets going to the deep roads with bethany, letting the grey wardens make her one of them (obv he doesn't know that if he didn't she would have joined the circle lmao). and obv her mother's death... if he had been there, with her mother, he could have done something... :'/ maia: she regrets not being strong enough when that shem tried to hurt her when she was a litte girl, that made her mother kill him to save her bc she was too defenseless, she should have been stronger, that caused her mother and she part ways, because now maia's mother was a criminal and she had more proabilities of getting caught, so maia should go on her way and find the next village, but she found the lavellan clan. she deeply regrets not going after her mother. she also think she was too stupid to not found out the true identity of solas and try to convince him that this world has meaning :'/ 23. do you have any headcanons about your character(s) that go against canon? mmmm... no? :/, i like my decisions to have consequences?? 24. are any of your characters based on someone? sahgdashsd pls don't make fun of me but in the first stage of prim's/anika's 'personality creation' was inspired by mother gothel, then she was inspired by...... mikasa ackerman dsfgdjsdf, i'm still inspired by that character tHO i know that shingeki no kyojin is nazi propaganda and i no longer watch that anime lmao. maia is inspired by... a mix of me and rapunzel (from tangled)?? she's basically a shy rapunzel :') 25. who did you leave in the fade? some of you will hate me bc i had to choose between hawke and stroud but i still chose hawke dsfgsdf. m8, hawke is just a 'figure' who isn't widely recognized in thedas, while the grey warden are 394789x more useful, idk i always put myself in the shoes of my characters even if their decisions hurt me (tho, tbqh, i'm not tHAT attached to hawke so this choice was easy lol) 26. favourite mount? royal sixteen!! she's so pretty!! ♡♡♡ thanks for tagging me!! ♡♡

Canterbury bells and cypress?
Canterbury Bells - Who is your muse grateful for being in their life?
Hmmm. For Jonah it’s either Bethany or Varric. He loves Anders, would give his life for Anders, buuut that’s kind of the problem with Anders. Bethany and Varric both have Jonah’s deepest love as well, as his only living family and as his best friend, and they also act as grounding influences when Jonah does get swept away in Anders’ intensity. They’re not enough to keep him from fleeing Kirkwall with him in the end, but there’s always a little voice in his head reminding him to think of them when things get a bit too wild. He doesn’t always listen, but it’s always there.
For Ghilanel and Varevas both, it’s Dorian. Ghilanel values Dorian’s judgement and support above almost anyone else’s. While none of the mages she’s close to are openly negative about her decision to seek the power of a templar, Dorian’s the only one who acknowledges she’s done it and doesn’t condemn her for it, something she’s grateful for and really needed to hear at that moment in time since the people who were applauding her for it (more or less) were also the people it mattered to the least. She came into the Inquisition with very few friends of her own, even among her clan, and while she does have more when she comes to the other side of it, none of them are as close or influential as Dorian. (And even though fandom hates it, yes, after Solas dumps her, she does seek out Dorian for support. After Trespasser, however, it’s Cassandra she leans on.) For Varevas, Dorian represents both the best and worst possibilities in mage freedom. Would it be good to be comfortable walking any street in the world knowing that your status as a mage wouldn’t make you a threat? Of course. But while Varevas already has experience with competition with other mages too, it never reaches the blood magic and murder levels it does in Tevinter (at least not in his clan or any clan he knows of, though now I am personally curious about that potential aspect of competition for First). Either way, though, it’s something that fascinates and inspires him, much as Vivienne’s amassing of power does, but there’s also the fact that he ends up in love with Dorian which is also something he never really imagined for himself. Among all these things is a future that Varevas could never have foreseen, and it wouldn’t have happened without Dorian.
And, since she’s been on my mind more lately, Leohta is most grateful for Alistair. She never would have survived the Deep Roads if not for Duncan, but she never would have survived the rest of what happened without Alistair. No one else was there to explain darkspawn sense to her. No one else could explain the dreams and voices that came with the taint. Also, chances are no one else would have respected any authority she claimed to have on her own. Anybody can walk into a Dalish camp or a human city and claim to be a Grey Warden and start making demands, but for it to be an Orzammar dwarf, with little to no experience interacting with other cultures and with somewhat wanting social skills, the gathering of the army against the Blight would’ve been doomed before it even started. Having a more experienced Grey Warden with her, even one who refused to be the leader, helped her immensely. And as with Varevas, there’s also the part where she ended up in love with him. That of course enhances the gratitude a thousandfold.
Cypress - What is the most impactful loss that your muse has experienced?
Going in the same order, for Jonah this is REALLY HARD to narrow down bc Hawke but I think oddly enough it’s either the loss of the Chantry or Orsino’s death. Up until that point, until everything really just went to shit, Jonah had convinced himself he could make it work in Kirkwall. Sure, the city was a shithole that took every ounce of his sanity to try to hold together. Sure, it took his mother from him. Sure, it put his sister in the Gallows. Sure sure sure but it was fine, he could still do this, there was a still a chance. Those two moments, though, were when he knew he had to leave, it was when he really lost Kirkwall. Ultimately Anders is more important to him than the city itself but there was a part of him that thought he could still have both.
For Ghilanel, it’s Solas. How could it be anything else? She wasn’t sure what she was going to do after all this was over and the world was saved, but she never imagined it was going to be to chase her ex-boyfriend all over creation to stop him from uncreating it, and yet. That’s exactly what she’s going to do.
For Varevas, the most impactful loss was his clan. With Ghilanel I managed to save them all, with Varevas I was not so lucky. Once he loses his clan, Varevas loses any concept of what it might mean to go “home” once this is all over. It leaves him adrift for a while so he just doesn’t think about it, but as soon as Dorian starts to talk about having to go back to Tevinter after everything is done, Varevas starts planning how to get there too. He knows, of course, that Dorian will object, but with his clan gone and the Inquisition dissolved, all the things tying him to the South are also gone, and in time so is he.
For Leohta, I touched on it in the last thing I wrote but really, the loss was her old self. There’s a considerable stretch of time where, among the people who raised her, she literally stops existing. She’s not just exiled, she’s erased. She may feel like Princess Aeducan is dead but in the Memories, she’s not just dead, she never existed in the first place. The Wardens could’ve been a place to re-establish her sense of self, but then they also virtually stop existing. It takes her a really long time to put herself together again after that, to figure out who she really is, and in the end she’s better off for it but it never would have happened if she hadn’t ‘died’ in the first place.

🐍🐲🥚🔪 for gwendolyn : )
dorian
their relationship gets off to a rocky start because of gwen’s decision to help the templars (which was 1000% just bc she thought if there was a hope of finding a cure for the rite of tranquility, it lay in the remains of the order), and its takes them a pretty long while to get back on the right foot. but once glen is cured, he and dorian become fast friends (and more) while dorian aids in his recovery, and eventually they complete the last resort of good men together. afterwards, glen encourages gwen to speak to him. one of the few good things the circle ever offered glen was freedom from the rampant homophobia of human nobility (and the Ostwick clergy), but gwen struggled under it constantly, particularly when one of her older brothers emrys was thrown out of the family because of it. so glen figures his sister can help dorian better than glen can in the wake of having to confront that particular chapter of dorian’s past
with time, the two of them become friends; dorian’s departure for the imperium prevented them from ever becoming super close, but gwen views him as a good man, a talented mage, and a worthy partner for her brother
iron bull
gwen respects a good liar. one of my favorite bits of inquisition meta talks about just how good iron bull is at his job because if you read through his banter, he gets along pretty damn well with everyone because he knows how to appeal to them. he flirts with dorian. he calls vivienne “ma’am”. he plays chess with solas. after demands of the qun (for ppl who aren’t horrible and don’t sacrifice the chargers), these relationships become genuine, but before then? he’s playing the inner circle like a damn fiddle– and he plays gwen too, appealing to her noble sensibilities. her relationship with salvoth and love for her brother. and above all else, her pride.
and it isn’t until demands of the qun that she puts it all together. she realizes what a threat bull is, and what a threat an alliance with the qun could be to the inquisition. so she saves the chargers, and after that, they become quite good friends. gwen possesses a deep admiration for his silver tongue and skill with a great axe (there aren’t many two-handed warriors in skyhold, so they train together quite often)- though they both think the other has the worst taste in alcohol, and bull thinks she isn’t nearly enthusiastic enough about dragon killing, which would be a deal-breaker for pretty much anyone else
egg
they’re a very unlikely pair, but solas and gwen get along surprisingly well. when they meet, she’s in a place in her life where approaches to magic outside of the chantry doctrine hold a lot of appeal, and she has a natural curiosity as well as a particular appreciation for cultural lore
which is to say gwen asks a lot of questions, and solas… loves talking about himself
particularly after gwen conscripts the templars in champion of the just, their weird friendship is sealed, and solas is the one who accompanies her into the fade to heal glendower once the cure to the rite of tranquility is rediscovered; their relationship does take a bit of a hit after [MAJOR GOLDEN GIRL, BLACK SHEEP SPOILER], but they maintain a respectful relationship
and then of course… trespasser happens. i’m still on the fence about whether gwen would want to redeem him or kill him, but i’m leaning towards redeem from the pragmatic stand point that having an Actual God on your side could come in handy, and killing a friend would, y’know, suck. but when it comes down to it, if required, she’ll do what she has to
briala
sort of similar to my response for celene in that we+wh’s framing of briala changes how gwen views her compared to if she knew more of the information in the masked empire. but because i like briala more than celene, i’m going to pretend the information needed for gwen to view briala favorably is presented  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
gwen’s deepest admiration is for selfless people. selflessness is a virtue which gwen is constantly striving for, but, at the time when she meets briala, gwen knows her pride prevents her from being truly selfless (not just doing selfless shit to improve her standing with others). and by contrast, briala is motivated almost entirely by her desire to improve the lives of elves; her priority is always helping those who need it. and gwen admires that so much. she also respects briala for many of the same reasons she respects vivienne- for her ability to not only make the most out of her station, but to turn it into a powerful position for affecting change
but she keeps her opinion of briala largely to herself; like i mentioned in my response to celene, gwen forces all three to compromise so the inquisition has that many more routes of influence and favor in orlais-- and making that work requires at least an outward appearance of personal neutrality on the part of the inquisitor. and gwen most definitely is not working in secret with leliana to provide briala support. absolutely not. she would n e v e r

can you write something where lavellans clan dies and she goes to solas crying n its all cute bc nothing happened in the game when her clan dies n its kinda weird
Glimpses: Twilit
Rating: M
Genre: Romance, Hurt/Comfort
Pairing: Solavellan
Warnings: Character death, sad
By the time Yvelle returned to Skyhold, everything felt different.
She existed in a fog now, going through the motions, steeling her heart so the tragedy wouldn’t be so obvious. Pity made her uncomfortable, and consolations felt hollow no matter how heartfelt. Dorian had been with her, had been able to help, but now that the immediate impact had passed she sunk into a cradling, comforting numbness.
Solas returned as well, carrying his own emotional burden, but she barely noticed. Outwardly she did, outwardly she looked like she cared, but they both knew it was a farce. He was good at reading her like that –or maybe she just wasn’t very good at hiding around him.
In the courtyard she felt his eyes on her, watching as she loosed another arrow into the dummy across the field. Bull was there to help her, encouraging her even as she hit the mark every time. She’d never had much to her but this terrifying, precise deadliness.
And she practiced until her arm ached and her fingers grasped at empty air for another arrow. Above and around her the light glowed a dull orange. She paused, lowering her bow, looking around in bewilderment because the dusk had caught her by surprise.
Bull shifted by the dummy, rolling his shoulder back. “It’s getting late, boss. You should get some rest.”
Dryness stuffed her mouth. She couldn’t recall whether she had a point to this exercise. The dirt felt dry and soft beneath her calloused bare feet as she padded toward the dummy. Bull started to help her remove the arrows but immediately stopped, seeing she could do it herself.
“Tomorrow, then?” He offered, trying to keep his voice gruff and aloof as always. Yvelle didn’t pick up on the note of concern, but it was there.
She nodded and said goodbye without any further interaction. Dirt gave way to grass under her feet. The quiet evening breeze rustled the loose hairs in her ponytail. Bull watched her, the healers watched her, the soldiers watched her. There would be no peace until she was alone, slowly pacing her bedroom, the light in her hand pulsing and burning and crackling with power.
“Inquisitor.”
She turned on the stairs to her quarters, eyes glowing in the darkness as she looked down at her companion. He stood just inside the doorway, arms held behind his back, face caught in flickering candlelight. In every twitch of the flame his eyes gleamed like hers, like a cat’s at night, making his gaze look like a reflective pool in starlight.
Solas shifted, deliberately relaxing, pressing his palm to the wood of her door. He opened his mouth, lost his words, then looked away.
“You’re not often lacking in commentary,” she quipped, loud and creaking in her raspy voice.
“I… am glad you have not lost your wit.”
Her brows raised, but nothing else moved. “That would have been tragic.” He started to speak again, stopped, and she turned back toward the stairs. “If you have nothing else to contribute, I’ll be going to bed.”
“Inquisitor –Yvelle. Please.” He stepped further inside the stairwell and closed the door behind them, cutting them off from the rest of the twilit castle. “You should not be alone like this.”
“I’m not alone. I have an entire castle of people.” She gestured broadly, mirthlessly. “I don’t think anyone is ever really alone in Skyhold.”
He tilted his head slightly. “Not with how many spirits flock here, desperate to watch your journey.”
Yvelle snorted. “I hope they find it entertaining.”
“Not quite.” The stairs creaked as he put his weight on them, as he approached her slowly but confidently. She retreated, but only by a half-step. He saw her discomfort and stopped, leaning away from her, giving her space. “If all a spirit wanted was to feel they’d been amused by us, they would go to see horses race in Val Royeaux amidst the Game. Instead the spirits flock here to the edge of legend and the precipice of greatness -to you.” She watched him, pensive. “They watch you because they know that out of all of Thedas, this world will change for you.”
His hand rested on the railing and she glanced down at it, before looking back up at his glowing eyes. “It doesn’t feel that way.” Her voice always sounded raspy, but now it was hoarse. A heaviness weighed down her broad shoulders and she cast her gaze downward. “And you know I never wanted it. Had I not been there, were I not what I’ve been made to be–”
He exhaled shakily and gently put his hand under her chin, making her look at him as he stepped closer, now just one stair beneath her. “And yet you are, Yvelle. You cannot change that, no matter how much you may want to.”
She swallowed hard and stared at him for a moment, quiet, before she gently reached up and took his hand in hers. “Knowing that doesn’t make me feel better.”
“It was not intended to.” Her brows furrowed in confusion, and he gave her hand a soft, reassuring squeeze. “That is not something I nor anyone else can do for you. In a better world, you would never have to suffer such pain. But in this one, you must and you can. Take your time to grieve, and do not let anyone tell you how.”
Her eyes flicked down and away from him and she felt the smallest sense of release in her chest. Slowly, her hand slipped from his and she let it drop to her side. “I don’t let anyone tell me how to do anything.”
Solas snorted and stepped up another stair, now on the same level as her. He smiled and let his hand hover near her, just beside her hip, and let her press it to her body. “I know, vhenan.”
The word made her heart skip, and her gaze softened. She moved into his arms, her hands reaching around his back and gripping his sweater into handfuls. He held her the way she liked to be held, just tight enough to let her know he was there. She squeezed her eyes shut, and though she didn’t cry, her shuddering exhale told him she could.
Eventually he held her hand as she brought him into her quarters, and he sat on her bed as she took off the layers of warm clothing she wore in Skyhold and left them in a heap at her feet. She removed her breast bindings, leaving only her cloth underthings as she crawled into bed beside him.
He could lay here, his arms wrapped around her nearly-naked body, her warmth pressed against his, and resist the urges she stirred in him. Yvelle pushed her face into his chest and closed her eyes, breathing in his scent, hugging him tightly as the bare skin of her legs brushed against the rough, worn fabric of his leggings. He let her rest there, quiet, peaceful, and gave her hair a soft kiss. When the cold began to creep over them he reached down and pulled one of the blankets up, covering her entirely and even tucking it in beneath her back. He felt her smile against him, and in time her body relaxed. She slept soundly, heavily, and in time he drifted off as well.

30 Days of Dragon Age OC Challenge Day 15
Day 15: Choices: What choices do they make in the main quests of their game? Why? What is the hardest decision they make?
Isaline:
Redcliffe: Kills Connor. She hated herself for it completely and it likely is the hardest choice she made but she thought it was the Right Thing To Do because demons and blood magic are both Bad. Alistair putting her in charge is definitely him testing her because he’s a templar so obviously he’s Really in charge. And templars have to kill people in Harrowings, and this is basically the same thing right?
Brecilian Forest: Sides with the elves. She’s panicking and doesn’t know what to do and doesn’t want to screw over the elves by fighting Zathrian and has recently realised quite how much humans have fucked over elves and doesn’t want to be racist.
Urn of Sacred Ashes: Doesn’t destroy the Urn. Because like, she’s Andrastian, and Kolgrim is talking nonsense.
Orzammar: Makes Harrowmont king, sides with Caridin. Letting a tyrant like Bhelen become king goes completely against her morals, even if he is more progressive. She does her best to try to talk Harrowmont into being a bit more progressive, although I’m not sure how much it works. Branka also goes completely against her morals.
Circle: Sides with the mages. Dumps Noodlehair’s ass when he tells her to kill them all. It’s awesome.
Landsmeet: Makes Anora queen, kills Loghain. Alistair remains softened in Isaline’s game and with the theme of her game being taking control of her life and doing what she wants to do, it felt right for her to keep Alistair as a Warden. Isaline kills Loghain almost solely because he sold the elves in the alienage, before that she was willing to maybe give him mercy.
Ultimate Sacrifice: Makes Oghren a Warden early, he does the Dark Ritual. The Dark Ritual for me often involves some slight metagaming; if killing someone off adds nothing to the story, I have to work out a way to do the Dark Ritual without having to pressure someone into sex. After Alistair panicked at the idea of it, Isaline got everyone she knew with a penis in Redcliffe castle together and asked if any of them would mind becoming a Warden and then impregnating Morrigan. So that happened.
Awakening: Saves Amaranthine, spares the Architect. Isaline Cannot abandon Amaranthine, it’s a hard decision in that she’s abandoning her friends at the Keep, but she Knows she’s never going to choose to abandon people in the city she might still be able to save. She spares the Architect because he genuinely seems to mean no harm and guys this is the first sapient Darkspawn anyone’s ever seen!! That’s amazing!!! We can’t just kill him we could learn so much from him.
Corinne: DA2 doesn’t really do main quests like the other games but these were the ones I could think of with significant decisions. And Corinne at least has more variety in her answers than “always sides with the mages/always sides with the templars.”
Wayward Son: She tells Feynriel to go to the Dalish! Her issue with apostates is just that they can’t control their powers and apparently the Dalish are good at teaching their mages that. Later, she lets him go to Tevinter, since the Circle here can’t adequately train him.
Act of Mercy: She tells the mages they should go back to the Circle, because they’re blood mages who are too dangerous to be allowed out, and surely Thrask will make sure they’re not punished badly, right? She refuses to kill Thrask, and doesn’t kill Karras either.
Prime Suspect: She kills Gascard DuPuis because he’s a really suspicious probably a murderer blood mage. Those are Bad.
Legacy: Sides with Larius because maybe waking up an ancient evil Darkspawn is a bad idea???
Demands of the Qun: Doesn’t hand Isabela over to the Arishok because they may argue all the time but Isabela’s still her friend, and did the Right Thing by coming back. She duels the Arishok by herself, tricking him into a fight with everyone would be unfair and just make her look like a cheating asshole in front of everyone.
Showdown: She tries to calm Meredith and Orsino down and refuses to side with either, because they both have valid points, and getting into a fight isn’t going to help.
Mark of the Assassin: Corinne didn’t want to get involved in Tallis’ plan in the first place and only did it because Adventure the spirit threatened to kill her otherwise. She never trusted Tallis for a second, was very angry Tallis when it turned out Tallis lied to her, and refused to get caught up in this any further by helping Tallis again.
On The Loose: She sent Emile de Launcet back to the Circle, after letting him spend a night getting laid, because it was the safest place for him and everyone around him. Before leaving, she told Meredith that maybe just perhaps Meredith sometimes went a bit too far.
The Last Straw: Spares Anders, sides with him, and sides with the mages because it’s the right thing to do and she can’t pretend to be neutral any more.
Estella:
In Hushed Whispers/Champions of the Just: Estella decides the best thing to do in this situation is obviously to recruit the templars, who are great, lmao can you imagine though. No one even suggests going to those fuckers for help bc she got Noodle fired as soon as she discovered he was here. She recruits the mages and then spends the next few weeks making sure they’re all comfortable here and wondering if she can ask Fiona for her autograph.
Wicked Eyes Wicked Hearts: Has Briala rule through Gaspard. Estella did not want to be here and doesn’t want to be nice to fancy nobles and doesn’t care about Celene as a person. When Leliana tells her she could have Briala rule by letting Celene die, she happily lets Celene die and puts Briala in control, because Briala is going to help oppressed people.
Here Lies the Abyss: Leaves Loghain to the Nightmare demon, exiles the Grey Wardens. Estella’s Hawke went to live in the Anderfels with zir husband and kid at the end of DA2 and isn’t coming back to get involved in any more bullshit, so Estella has Vari Tabris for HLTA instead. Loghain offers to stay in the Fade, and Vari agrees because look, it’s not that she wants him dead, but he did try to sell her father into slavery. Estella agrees this is a pretty good reason to leave Loghain behind. She doesn’t give a shit about what to do with the Grey Wardens, so asks Vari who moved on from Warden business years ago and also doesn’t give a shit. They tell the Wardens to just go away, and the Wardens presumably take this to mean they’ve been exiled.
What Pride Had Wrought: Doesn’t do the rituals at the temple, lets Morrigan drink from the Well. Estella really doesn’t want to do the rituals because of her issues around religion, so why waste time letting the red templars get to the Well first? She also really, really doesn’t want to drink from the Well, because it sounds like it would mean she wasn’t fully herself, and also might mean being enslaved again so no, that sounds a horrible idea. She asks Solas and Vivienne whether they’d like to, and when they refuse, lets Morrigan.
Trespasser: Wants to redeem Solas, keeps the Inquisition. Solas was Estella’s first friend after she was cured of Tranquility and they got on well throughout the game. He’s an apostate who’s always been supportive of mage rights and good at looking after her daughter and while what he’s doing now is stupid and awful, she’s still not going to kill her friend. She keeps the Inquisition around just because she’s now built it up as a massive support group for mages and abuse victims. She’s fine with downgrading the military aspect and doesn’t care all that much that various agents have infiltrated it, because none of that was ever important to her anyway.

Hello! First question: What is your OC's name and what are they like? And then questions: 5, 10, 15, and 20 please?!
Hi! I’m going to use my three first OC’s from each dragon age game bc I have a lot of love for them! Daria Brosca is my quiet (she knows how to speak Common but being around so many humans makes her self-conscious of the way she speaks), sarcastic and cocky, strong 2-handed warrior, and very bisexual dwarven Warden! Then Garrett Hawke is sweet, diplomatic, and friendly and always willing to help others, tho he also is funny and likes to find the humor in most situations; he ofc supports mages bc he’s a mage. Last (but not least) is my inquisitor, Kiilani Cadash who is very loud, humorous, aggressive, and down-to-earth (she is not very good for uh, diplomacy or being in polite, high-society company); she’s also a two-handed warrior and bisexual :’)
5. Your OC’s worst habit?Daria - Being cocky and arrogant and thinking she can handle any fight (after all, she didn’t survive in Dust Town by being nice and talking her way out of fights)Garrett - Trusting other people so easily; it’s gotten him and his friends/family hurt on several occasions.Kiilani - Speaking/acting without thinking first (which is exactly why,,, she should not be taken to grand balls or to diplomatic meetings)
10. Would your OC prefer to live in the city, the suburbs, or the country?Daria - as long as she doesn’t have to live in Dust Town again, she really doesn’t care. She actually would rather not live in Orzammar at all, she’s kinda tired of the way things work around there; however, she also doesn’t want to live in human towns bc she doesn’t feel like she fits in. She’d probably prefer living out in the country (and visiting Alistair as much as possible while he’s on the throne)Garrett - Country. He’s done with the mess that was Kirkwall and Lothering doesn’t feel like home anymore. Him and Fenris are going to live in a little cottage somewhere and avoid problems (well, until the inquisition comes a-calling)Kiilani - Skyhold is home now okay. that’s where she wants to live. It’s not like she had much of a home before the inquisition
15. Something that grosses your OC out?Daria - literally. Darkspawn. they all look so gross and they SMELL. Also, feet gross her outGarrett - spiders, but also ogres :) oh yeah and corpses/dead things :):)Kiilani - Typical dwarven food (deep mushrooms, nugs, cave beetles (also fun fact the dwarven diet page on the wiki is quite interesting)); tbh she’s just a really picky eater. Also, blood, which is ironic considering she’s a reaver
20. A obscure/ridiculous fear your OC has?Daria - rain and thunderstorms: she’s really scared of those things bc they don’t happen in Orzammar. She’s also really scared of how BIG the world is outside of OrzammarGarrett - he’s scared of statues; like even before the final battle with Meredith where she made them come to life he was scared of statues (that just made it worse tbh). Carver once told him when they were children that people/animals/living things were trapped in statues and Garrett used to have nightmares about being turned into a statueKiilani - She’s really scared of birds lmao; she’s always scared that birds are gonna try to like, peck her eyes out or something. It’s always an interesting time when she goes to talk to Leliana in skyhold bc uhh,, birds everywhere (which is why she usually ends up jumping down to Solas instead of taking the stairs – gotta get away FAST)

#30dayDAchallenge
Day 12: Religion
I realize I am a day behind and I’ll hopefully get myself back on track today.
Under the cut bc of length...
Darva Lavellan:
Darva is faithful to the Dalish patheon. He keeps to the habitual rituals of the gods, particularly The Way of the Three Trees, as he was raised with such principles.
He’s familiar with the vows his mother and father took as craftsman and healer, respectively.
Later on, he adds in the code of the Vir’Banal’ras which goes back to the Dalish assassins. (Fun fact: After he makes a more permanent move to Tevinter, he takes on the more professional aspects of being an assassin for the sake of protecting both Dorian and the members of their growing political faction.)
He hates being made into the symbol of Andraste; he doesn’t necessarily hate her, but he hates being made into this figure of a religion that has caused his people hundreds of years of pain. It feels ironic in the worst way possible.
Thus, he clings more to the Dalish traditions and worship. He doesn’t want to be seen as someone who has lost that and he doesn’t want to wake up to find that in himself.
With the Well of Sorrows, he gets angry at the people around him for what they say. It’s all this history of his people, staring him in the face and Cassandra remarks about how it’s rubbish and Morrigan explains it to someone who already freaking knows.
He knew from the moment that he was going to be the one to partake of the Well, regardless of what Morrigan had to say. Him being the Herald of Andraste is a fucking lie, so that argument is tossed out of the window. Yes, he leads the Inquisition, but if they succeed then it won’t be needed. It’s temporary. He’ll always be an elf, no matter what he does.
He’s upset by what happened to Mythal and how the truth is reinforced by Solas. She was the best of them and she was killed for it. With that, it almost seems justified that he created the veil to lock them away. Almost. (He did destroy what made the elves who they were when he did that and thus they’ll never live up to his standard of the elvish people he knows.)
The whole mess with the Evanuris and Solas puts him in a bad mental space after the conclusion of the Exalted Council. I talked about a lot of it during the Mind Matters on day 4, but his faith is deeply shaken. He doesn’t know what to do with himself; he can’t make sense of it in his head, he feels wrong when he looks at the tattoos on his face… It was all he knew for a majority of his life and it was all destroyed.
Part of him thinks Solas is just lying about it. He can’t think to rationalize it in any other way. Still, something doesn’t sit right and he still loses his faith.
Fen’Harel is getting a fist in the face and killed for wanting to destroy this world. The elves are going to perish with it and he’ll be all alone in his mistake that killed the entire world.
“All of this started with fanatics and arguments about the next world; it’s time we start believing in this one.”
Eth Tabris:
She’s agnostic and not a particularly pious individual to either the Chantry or the elvhen gods. If she had to be partial to one or the other, it’d be the elvhen gods because of her mother’s faith as a Dalish elf.
She thinks the Chantry could be a force for good as Leliana talks about it in Inquisition. Eth saw the comfort the Maker brought Leliana and the peace she found in the Chantry. Eth would like a Chantry like that. One of support, healing and comfort. Not one filled with politics and corruption.
Neither the Maker nor Andraste have done her any favors and especially the Chantry. She finds her fists more reliable than faith in a god.
With Awakening and subsequently Inquisition, she sees how much being named the Herald bothers Darva. She doesn’t think he’s the big religious figure to start with and after the trip in the Fade, she’s just reassured that she was correct in her thinking.
