The Tallarn Fourth Armoured were one of many regiments catapulted to honour and glory by the invasion of their homeworld. Formed largely from rear echelon troops and civilian volunteers, tank commanders were promoted from the dwindling reserves of trained tankers - mostly the gun loaders and drivers of other companies, untested and entirely unsuitable for command, that were nevertheless thrown into the toxic battlefields of a planet mid-Exterminatus. The hellish conditions broke many of the crews, minds and spirits lost as surely as those tanks that were cracked open to the poisonous air of Tallarn. Though the majority remained loyal to the Emperor, many had their faith tested well past the breaking point - some of these armoured companies breaking ranks, and ultimately turning to the Ruinous Powers. As such, tankers of the Tallarn Fourth were a rare but notable sight on both sides of the Civil War. My test purchase of Ultramar Auxilia arrived today, a little box of 3D printed friends that may well turn into a very large army! The scale looks good, and I love the designs. When I get chance, I think they'll look great based up for Zone Mortalis alongside my new Ultramarines. Also arriving this morning were my wardrobes, so my hobby for the next few days is going to be primarily at the 1:1 scale. I'm presently camped out in a nest on the fold out bed in my office, with my doors partially barricaded with half-built cabinetry. This was a project I started and abandoned a long time ago, that will perhaps see a new lease of life with the new release of Solar Auxilia. The tan and red will always remain, to tie them to my many Leman Russes, but I'd like to ditch the daemonic black-and-white for something more in line with the old Chaos Androids. Paint them up, perhaps, to be more obviously mechanical - rather than boney and skeletal. Maybe some more green, too.
