As with all of the @solarasuncare facial sunscreens, the new Vacation Glow is much, much more than a mere SPF cream. It’s packed with multiple pro-skin health ingredients at relatively active levels. The top 10 of the INCI is front-loaded with water-binding humectants and two solid antioxidant botanicals, including Açai Fruit Extract, and tried-and-true Green Tea Leaf Extract — one of the best antioxidant ingredients in skincare. . It’s a bit thicker than the @wander_beauty Pack Up & Glow Priming Mineral Sunscreen I reviewed on the blog. I’d almost go so far as to say Vacation Glow has the qualities of a BB Cream. ☀️What type of sunscreen are you using this summer? . I'm all about skincare and taking care of my skin under the sun. @solarasuncare is a new skincare brand that is focused on clean supercharged sunscreen using mineral only ingredients to protect skin from the sun while promoting healthy skin. Products are vegan, recyclable packaging, and reef safe for our ocean. I had an opportunity to try a few of their products. . Clean Freak and Time Traveler | Both come in scented/unscented, SPF 30, packed with 10 supercharged antioxidants, and nourishes the skin. Most mineral based sunscreens are thick making it hard to apply. This however has a creamy texture, no scent, does not pill under makeup, and skin feels breathable. Goes on white but after I take my time in rubbing it all in there is no white cast. It does feel sticky on skin so I suggest squeezing a little bit at a time. . Juice Boost | I always put on a good serum or water based moisturizer to give my skin a good hydrated base before applying sunscreen. This serum complements Solar sunscreens as it hydrates skin with vitamin c, peptides, coQ10, & power plants. Very lightweight, applies to skin easily, absorbs fairly quickly, and keeps my skin hydrated. . So far my skin is being well protected this summer without the toxic chemicals. IF YOU NEED ONE, THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO START! _______________________________________________________ There’s this wild misperception about the use of sunscreen that has always given me pause. It’s that sunscreen is only really important in the summer months, when the sun is at its brightest and most intense. It’s somehow not as important to wear sunscreen in the winter, when the days are shorter and the sunshine dimmer. As if the sun’s damaging UV rays take a long vacation during the winter months. Which is why I do my best to push the importance of sun protection throughout the year — on cold days, on rainy days, and on cloudy, seemingly sunless days. I actually wear sunscreen whether or not I’m going outside — those damaging UV rays come through the windows, too! IMO a well-formulated sunscreen should work on all exposed skin — whether it’s your face, legs or, well, your “backside.” (For the record, I wouldn’t be caught dead on a nude beach!) Formulated with 99.99% plant origin ingredients, Glow Getter Nutrient Boosted Daily Sunscreen is a tad thicker than my Solara fave, Time Traveler, though it blends right in and after a few minutes leaves no white cast. So what’s distinctive about this particular formula? As with Time Traveler, Glow Getter is packed with all good-for-skin ingredients, as well as non-nano zinc at 20% for ideal mineral sunscreen protection. There are a significant number of replenishing oils in this formula. Among the skin-loving oils are high levels of power antioxidants Coffee Seed Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil. In fact, there are so many antioxidant botanical oils and extracts I couldn’t count them. The INCI is comprised of at least 20 of them, including several that give the formula a light, refreshing natural scent. WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO ANTIOXIDANT PRODUCTS? Please comment below… _______________________________________________________ Solara’s Juice Boost is one of 2 non-SPF skincare products that the brand offers. Solara describes it as a “hydrating cocktail of powerful, bioavailable actives that instantly reinvigorate thirsty skin.” Sure, but to put it simply, it’s an antioxidant powerhouse serum that’s easily layered into any skincare routine. It’s super lightweight and reminds me a lot of the Paula’s Choice Power Berry Serum — powered by 13 potent antioxidant berry extracts. Juice Boost doesn’t contain that fruit salad of the PC formula, but it’s got quite a bit of goodness in it, including Watermelon Seed Oil and Apple Cell Culture Extract — aka apple stem cells. While stem cells are often mischaracterized as providing some sort of regenerative skin-cell benefit, they are known to be a potent antioxidant. In addition to its antioxidant content, Juice Boost contains a plumping peptide or two, humectant Vitamin E and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate — a stable oil-soluble form of Vitamin C that is similar in potency to L-Ascorbic Acid, the purest form of Vitamin C. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LIP TREATMENT? Drop it in the comments… _______________________________________________________ It’s kinda funny how I never pay attention to my lips until they start to dry out and shrivel up like a prune around Thanksgiving. And sure enough, here we are Thanksgiving weekend and I’m thinking WTF. My lips are cracking. My hands are cracking. I look 87 years old and I only just turned 82 in July. LOL Okay, so I picked up this new Solara Suncare lip serum a few weeks ago and set it aside, well, you know…for when I would REALLY need it. Solara’s Pout Protector Moisturizing Lip Serum is actually quite an intriguing formula. It’s closer to skincare for your lips than it is to a conventional lip balm. The Pout Protector is infused with nourishing butters and oils — as you’d expect. But what I wasn’t expecting was the added skin soothers and even plumping peptides. Peptides in a lip treatment? That’s no joke! The 2nd ingredient makes me smile (without cracking my lips open)! It’s Bisabolol — the active component of Chamomile. In case you didn’t know, here’s a real #selfcaresunday tip! Bisabolol is your friend. The extract was used to soothe and treat skin irritation on long travels by ship dating back 100s of years. Please drop your faves in the comments… _______________________________________________________ The last featured product in the $175 clean “Dream Routine” is sunscreen. When people ask me my top recommendation for an anti-aging product, I always reply “sunscreen!” I get some form of push-back. “No, really, I mean which anti-aging product do you recommend? I’m looking for something that really works.” I just rephrase and repeat. “Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!” There’s simply no better anti-aging product than sunscreen. “Anti-aging” is a term made up by marketers — and the justification to charge a premium for a product. WHAT’S YOUR FAVE DAILY SUNSCREEN? IS IT MINERAL, CHEMICAL…WATER-FREE? _______________________________________________________ Sunscreen is the most important skincare product I apply every day. For a year+, I’ve been seeking out the best sunscreen products in the world. There’s been a lot of innovation, but it’s all happened outside the US. Thank goodness for the internet or I’d be using sunscreen technology that dates back to the 80s. The only sunscreen innovation in the US has come with clean, mineral sunscreens like my fave from @solarasuncare. While innovation in the US is moving slowly, the world is bringing newness.
