By creating a new way for light and matter to interact, researchers at the University of California, Irvine have enabled the manufacturing of ultrathin silicon solar cells that could help spread the energy-converting technology to a vast range of applications, including thermoelectric clothing and onboard vehicle and device charging. The development, subject of a paper recently published as the cover story in the journal ACS Nano, hinges on the UC Irvine researchers' conversion of pure silicon from an indirect to a direct bandgap semiconductor through the way it interacts with light. The UC Irvine team, in collaboration with scientists from Russia's Kazan Federal University and Tel Aviv University, explored an innovative approach by conditioning the light rather than changing the material itself. They confined photons on sub-3-nanometer asperities near the bulk semiconductor, granting light a novel property -- expanded momentum -- that opens new interaction pathways between light and matter. By "decorating" the silicon surface, the researchers said, they achieved a boost in light absorption by orders of magnitude, along with a significant increase in device performance.

Funniest part of early comics Bruce Wayne is that for the first handful of comics, my man was NEVER seen without a pipe. Bruce has a pipe in literally every panel he’s in. Batman doesn’t.
Which makes me assume that this is part of his disguise! Like, if anyone ever asks Gordon or someone else who’s with Bruce Wayne relatively often: “Is that man Batman?” they would just be like “Of course not. How could he be? He doesn’t have Bruce’s crippling nicotine addiction.”

So far:
Achieved nothing
Want to finish reading this nightmare of a source in Russian and move on to other materials (every day I thank god for Google lense translator because I couldn't do this without it)
Hopefully transfer my old Obsidian notes into my master document
In my ears, surprisingly:
In my head: as always as of late, despair

Just added a solar fan to the coop to push hot air out and create more of a draw. These little things can move some air. I'd like to get 3 to 4 more sets and figure out a better way to hang the solar panels. This will do for now.

A couple days ago I got a string of solar lights for my porch steps. I can't leave the porch light on after dark, because it disturbs the honeybee hive (no kidding!). I loved the last ones I had; they lasted for years before pooping out. This strand has large bulbs and a much larger solar panel. Only ten bulbs on a 27-foot strand, but I was able to space them up the stair railing nicely and I can't wait for them to come on this evening. I'm hopeful that "commercial grade" means durable and long-lasting. The photo above isn't mine, it's the image from the Lowe's ad. Getting them very carefully untangled with such large bulbs was time-consuming. "Harbor Breeze Solar Commercial Grade LED String Lights," I sure hope you live up to my expectations.

As stated by the International Energy Agency (IEA), approximately 50 percent of global final energy consumption is dedicated to heating. Yet, the utilization of solar power in this sector remains relatively low compared to fossil energy sources. An inherent problem limiting the widespread usage of solar energy is the intermittency of its direct availability. A promising solution comes in the form of molecular solar energy storage systems. Conventional thermal energy storage strategies store the energy for short periods, e.g., in the form of hot water. In contrast, molecular solar energy storage systems store solar energy in the form of chemical bonds, allowing it to be preserved for several weeks or even months. These specialized molecules -- or photoswitches -- absorb solar energy and release it later as heat, on demand. However, a key challenge for current photoswitches is the trade-off between energy storage capacity and efficient absorption of solar light, limiting the overall performance. To overcome this issue, research teams at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) and the University of Siegen present a novel approach in a collaborative study.
