Water-Wise Farming: The Efficiency of Hydroponics
The hydroponics market is experiencing unprecedented growth as it revolutionizes the way we approach agriculture, merging cutting-edge technology with sustainable farming practices. This soilless cultivation method offers numerous advantages, including faster plant growth, higher yields, and reduced water usage, making it an ideal solution for urban farming and areas with limited arable land. Advanced hydroponic systems, powered by AI and IoT, provide precise control over environmental conditions, ensuring optimal plant health and maximizing efficiency. This technology-driven approach also enables year-round production, reducing dependency on seasonal cycles and enhancing food security. With the rising demand for fresh, locally grown produce, hydroponics is becoming a cornerstone of urban agriculture, transforming rooftops, warehouses, and even residential spaces into vibrant, productive farms. Sustainable practices, such as closed-loop water systems and organic nutrient solutions, further underscore hydroponics' role in promoting environmental stewardship. As we look towards the next decade, the hydroponics market is set to flourish, driven by innovation, sustainability, and the growing need for resilient, adaptable food systems.

As I constantly tell my daughter, a little bit every day, goes a long way. Just taking one step at a time and doing the small thing. The first thing. The human thing. The thing that you can do, is huge! Music taught me this better than almost anything else in life. You don’t start learning how to play the violin by already knowing how to perfectly hold it and how to perfectly give just the right amount of weight to the bow. You learn it. Bit by bit, practicing one small basic thing at a time, every day for years before you achieve your goal of actually being able to play your instrument. And even though I know this, for some strange reason anything that I have in my heart to do, that I love, I put off all too often. I put off taking that very first step because I want it to be perfect. So when it came to hydroponics I was so grateful that there was a company who made it easy to take that first step. I wanted to figure it all out myself for years and I wanted to grow my own food inside with computers running everything. 😊 I will never forget talking to a hydroponic veteran and asking him what he thought about a new system that I was interested in. I told him I had no experience Hydroponics yet. His reply was what I needed to hear. “You just have to start.” And that’s exactly what I did. @gardyntech made a dream come true for me, that I wanted for all of my adult life. But I had to take the first step and just start. If you are curious about the Hydroponics unit I use you can find my reviews by clicking on the link in my bio. ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #dosomethingeveryday #dosomethingforyou #gardensofinstagram #hydroponicsystem #productreview #climatechange #gardynreview #hydroponic #indoorplants #motivation #dosomethingneweveryday #dosomethingnew #organicgardening #homegrown #verticalfarming #dosomethingwonderful #soilfree #dosomethingtoday #dosomethingcool #growyourownfood #hydroponicsathome #dosomething #dosomethingdontdonothing #hydroponics #gardyn #growfood #plantsofinstagram #ediblegarden #keepmovingfoward #productreviewer (at Charlotte, North Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUYItDALNwL/?utm_medium=tumblr

TERRAPLANTER
TERRAPLANTER #design #designproducts #garden #gardening #green #indoor #indoorgarden #kickstarter #materiali
Terraplanter is a soil-free growing system, bringing a new design-based approach to indoor gardening: when it’s in use, roots grip the lattice-like outside, which imprints their dense entanglements with a geometric pattern. The vegetation reveals its tessellating design when it’s removed.
The system has four planting methods: rubbing spores onto the surface, germinating seeds in the grooves,…

Nepal: AeroRoots wants to transform Nepal’s agriculture by farming in the air
We want to be able to grow Himalayan herbs in the Terai and Terai vegetables in the Himalayas,” claims Rana.
By Shashwat Pant Online Khabar Mar 10, 2019
Excerpt:
In 2017, Rana and Singh designed a system with over 150 plants and put it at Rana’s house. “At that point, we were in a hit and trial process. We didn’t know if our system would work,” shares Rana.
Of the 150 plants they had planted, only one survived. But the survival of one plant was enough to give the two partners the boost to continue the project which they started as a dream.
“The one plant that survived gave us the confidence that we were heading on the right path. Had that plant not survived, I don’t think AeroRoots would have existed today,” shares Rana.
Since then AeroRoots has come a long way. Learning from their mistakes, they have till date created four systems, each upgraded and better than the other.
The cofounders also share that they not only want to create a pesticide-free tomorrow, they also aim to revolutionise agriculture in Nepal. The company through its system is paving way for a soilfree farm which ensures higher yield and less investment of resources including the workforce.

Soilless cactus
Tumblr media
I bought this fishbone cactus on an ‘ebay’ like site from a private seller. It were a lot smaller by then probably just 2-3 leaves. It grew some but not a lot.
Eventually I decided to repot it and found a shit ton of root mealybugs. In panic and disgust I planted it up in gravel. That was 71 weeks ago.
Tumblr media
36 weeks ago and it’s still in gravel. Growth has happened and it seems to enjoy itself. Fishbone cactus are a rainforest cacti and can grow from/inside of trees. It’s usually pretty smooth textured ‘succulent’ but occasionally have some cacti identifications. The thing at the ends appears to be roots that they use to hold onto surfaces (like the stem of a tree).
Tumblr media
8 weeks ago and still going strong. Now planted in both gravel and leca. No root mealies in sight. This is the best method I have found to get rid of them. That’s also free of chemicals.
