The SOGIE Bill is about protecting Filipinos from discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.
It promotes equality and inclusivity for all Filipinos regardless of their SOGIE.

I am a lady trapped inside a man's body, born with the name of "Wilson Soledad Ramayla III," but preferred to be called "Kwin kwin Hermosa," and my pronounce is She. I am currently financially supporting my studies as I am a grade 12 student in Kauswagan National High School. As a "Trans woman," it can be difficult and challenging for us to live in the Philippines. "Everyday might not be always good, but there is always something good in every day." Threats, rejection, stereotyping, and discrimination are some of the things we deal with on a daily basis. I find the quote to be helpful in my daily life. It provides me with enough bravery, and it has helped me to maintain my optimism by helping me to concentrate more on good things. I am aware that I merit respect, an education, and a bright future. It overwhelmed me since I'm one step closer to achieving my goals. Believe in yourself, If I believed in myself and I did it, then I know that you can too.

This SOGIE Bill “stuff”? Oh. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go about forcing your Christian heteronormative lifestyle on every person as if it were the rule of the land, all the while cherry picking Bible verses thinking they count as a valid argument about this bill.
But what you don’t know is that your religion is a product of centuries of oppression, brought to this country as a means to colonize us and made every effort to destroy our pre-colonial culture which by the way, didn’t have any discriminatory practices against LGBTQs. You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that even in 2019, 71 countries criminalize homosexuality, and of those countries 13 can even mean the death penalty. I think you need to put things into perspective in our context here. The SOGIE Bill seeks to protect members of the LGBTQs from discrimination and allow them to live decent human lives free from prejudice which will help trickle down to a more just and humane society where our freedom to love and live the way we want to isn’t distinguished solely by who we are attacted to.
However, the fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community represents a fight against class struggle too, for no one is truly free until we are all free. So it’s quite comical that you’re choosing to hamper a bill that seeks to protect the people that your religion wouldve fought to uphold dignity and respect for, when in fact, you yourself are part of the problem that continues to deny them that, all because you don’t know, or at this point choose to ignore that you too have this SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression) stuff.

‪Straights who don’t want SOGIE Equality Bill are homophobic. Being straight and having gay friends doesn’t make you an ally. If you’re really a friend (and an ally), you would want us to have equal rights. We are not asking for too much. We are asking to be equal. If you fail to see that, it’s because you’ve been accustomed to privilege that us asking for equal rights is us asking for too much rights.‬
‪And privileged LGBTQ+ peeps who don’t want SOGIE Equality Bill are ignorant and selfish. If you’re used to discrimination and having less rights then that’s just you. The rest of us wants to put an end to it and have equal rights. The rest of us wants fairness and not special treatment.‬
‪The marginalized are asking to be accepted not just tolerated. We are not just some inconvenience that you have to tolerate. We are human beings that demands to be accepted.‬
‪Discrimination is still rampant in this day and age. The LGBTQ+ have less rights than hets. They are often ‬not accepted in some companies just because they are LGBTQ+. LGBTQ+ is still being seen today in the Philippines has a “disorder” that needs to be cured. Even in schools, LGBTQ+ kids are not accepted but only tolerated. There are institutions in the Philippines that ban same-sex relationships among students and even the use of rainbow flags during pride. LGBTQ+ children are being kicked out of their homes, or if not then being subjected to corporal punishment to “cure the gay away”. There are people here who thinks being LGBTQ+ is a choice. I wish it were a choice because no one would choose to be discriminated against. These kinds of discriminatory behaviors are prevalent and won’t go away.
SOGIE Equality Bill or the anti-discrimination bill is the safeguard or safety blanket for us in the LGBTQ+ community.
SOGIE Equality Bill’s purpose is to prevent various economic and public accommodation-related acts of discrimination against people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. The LGBTQ+ Community does not share the same rights as straighties. Our relationships are not even recognized by the state, which is why we don’t have any legal possessions of our partners. Without said bill, companies can and will not hire persons from the LGBTQ+ community for the reason of being too flamboyant. Even families cannot accept their LGBTQ+ relative. Without said bill, we have no protection from hate crimes.
We need the SOGIE Equality Bill. To deny us this right is to deny us human rights.

Labels: On The SOGIE Bill…
New philosophies and social ideals have beleaguered us recently, particularly on social media. Matters like liberalism, feminism, sexism, the LGBTQ+, and all other social views that I can’t even begin to list down. There’s just too many of them that most common people, like me, has a trouble on understanding what these dogmas are. There’s a term for people who follow these principles, commonly known as Social Justice Warriors (SJWs). I don’t know if such nuance is acceptable for these people. When I say “these people” I don’t mean that they’re something new or different that society has to accept. Because they’ve always been there. I don’t know, but I’m conflicted if I really have to be careful with my use of words to avoid complications that could probably pose a risk to my personality. But who cares anyway? These are, in the first place, my own views so it doesn’t matter whether people would agree with me or not.
For the past days, my social media feed has been bombarded with a lot of SJW views, particularly on the side of the LGBTQ+. And yes I know, most people would consider these guys as a “community”, but for me, it’s basically the same thing. There’s a lot of, shall we say, “Filipino Mass Hysteria” over the matter because of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression Equality Bill (SOGIE Bill). To the point that it already annoys me. On that note, I’ve also participated on sharing some of its satirical parleys. Since I enjoy that kind of stuff. Sharing memes on social media and joining into some discussions with my peers. That might be borderline irresponsible for some, but I consider it an open discussion (winks).
What strikes me most is the pointlessness of the matter. Why do we have to talk about these subjects if it really doesn’t make any sense at all, in the first place? Just because they’re deliberating it in the Senate doesn’t mean it adds importance to our living. The bill is pointless and only adds to the loads our government couldn’t even carry through properly. It just satisfies the few and not the welfare of our country. You can call me biased, label my anything, I don’t really care. I’m just stating what I think is arguably right for me. I have nothing against the LGBTQ+, I just think that the bill only satisfies a select group of people and not everybody. And it’s not just my opinion. I won’t state all the facts because all the facts that you need to know is already available at your disposal if you’re just willing to read the news and other people’s views in its entirety, not just the headlines.
The matter at hand is not just limited to a political, moral, and social dilemma. But it’s a practical one. Do you think that there’s not enough “right” for the people behind this to push through for their means? Isn’t it already enough “right” to be a citizen of this country? I think it’s an absurdity for asking something that you already have. What they want, as I’ve said, only justifies their own choices in life, and not everybody’s. I feel like I’m going in circles here, but it’s the truth. That may not be a good argument to throw at, but it’s just my opinion anyway. But in no means that I am subjecting myself to have an indifferent attitude towards the LGBTQ+. I respect their choices in life, but there’s a certain limitation we have to address whenever it comes to what the majority really needs.
Yes, yes, there’s a lot that I need to learn and I’m aware of that. However, that doesn’t limit me from addressing my own thoughts on the matter. Or maybe it’s just that? Maybe these ploys are just mere opinions that these people want to address legally. It doesn’t mean it’s idiotic, we all have differing opinions about stuff. But having another law that satisfies only the few sure is pointless and absurd to me.
What do you think? Are you an advocate or meh? Share your thoughts and feel free to criticize.
That’s all, Thanks for reading y’all! GOD Bless You! ;)

Heterophobic
The trend issue about  #NotoSogieBill
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just want to clear my head and dump my thoughts here kasi hindi nanaman ako makakatulog.
First of all, wala kayong kinakaharap na problema especially mga straight. I remember ang bilis-bilis niyo akong i-pares sa mga lalaki, at kinokonsinte niyo pa noong ako’y 7 years old na makipagdate sa mga lalaki, while when I hold hands with girls you’d say ew and “yuck” dahil hindi niyo gusto. When it comes to heterosexual relationship wala kayong problema kahit mabuntis agad, bakit? Kasi normal na ba ngayon ang mabuntis bago ikasal? alam ko bawal iyon sa simbahan pero anyway, hindi naman iyon ang focus niyo hindi ba?
Sogiebill will ELIMINATE ALL discrimination or unfair treatment to LGBT+ including the cisgender people (false btw).
Well same goes for this bill, “bakit kayo matatakot kung hindi niyo hilig magdiscriminate/ wala kayong masamang ginawa?”.
I also heard from my mom na LGBT ay kaakibat ng mental illness at kapitin daw ng demonyo. Well, I mean ng demonyo, ay dahil maraming nagsusuicide dahil bakla sila.
(pahabol lang, hindi porket I approve this bill eh I tolerate sin. There is no sin for supporting what was right, and protecting people for bullying others.)  It’s a fallacy.
I’ll leave this here so kung binasa mo ito, pasensya na dahil opinyon ko lang naman ito haha.

Gender and Development
Much like the topic last week, this week’s subject is also very relevant to this country. The bathroom issue with Gretchen Diez made the conversation about the passing of the #SOGIEBill more popular in the past few weeks.
There is a difference between sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Sex refers to the biological characteristics that make us distinctly male or female. Even then we learn that there are instances wherein female characteristics coincide with male characteristics, and these are what we call the intersex. Sexual orientation defines to whom you one is attracted to, gender identity refers to what one identifies as with regards to this spectrum, and gender expression is the way one chooses to express this identity.
The Philippines is still a very traditional country and the Filipinos more often than not reject new information that comes regarding this topic. Most still believe that there is only men and women. I think that what largely affects this notion among Filipinos is that this country is a religion-driven country, which explains why I hear the argument, “God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” so much. Many Filipinos consider being part of the LGBTQ+ community as a sin and an abomination to the god that technically created them. Because the country is very religious, the separation of the church and the state is hardly observed when it comes to the laws regarding the protection of the rights of this community.
I grew up in a very religious environment and have heard very homophobic things, and I can’t deny that for a short moment in my life, I have adapted this kind of thinking. But as I grew older and started thinking for myself, I have fortunately also grown out of this very close-minded way of thinking. I just couldn’t accept the invalidation of the identity of these people just because they do not abide by what we were supposed to believe in according to god, whose presence, might I add, is much more impossible to confirm.
We have to accept that gender is a social construct. Humans have put meaning into things, categorized them into masculine and feminine. A skirt is just a skirt until the majority of the people have suddenly decided that it is just to be worn by women, and has, therefore, become feminine completely neglecting the fact that lots of cultures have men wearing skirts. We have to accept that we are evolving and that gender is evolving.
