flowey and chara's relationship is always so interesting to me. when flowey absorbs everyone's souls and gains control over the timeline, he just wants to bring it all back to zero. back to when chara first fell. but he's already changed so much by that point - his and asriel's personalities and attitudes are almost complete opposites. would chara even still like him, if they met him as he was now? what if asriel's qualities that flowey buried and got rid of were what drew chara to him in the first place? what would he do if he realised that the person he is now, which was molded largely due to his past failures and regrets, is not the kind of person that chara would be fond of? what then?

was rewatching the pilot again yesterday for fic reasons and thinking again about the sherlock-style screen annotations they had when barry was doing CSI work that they literally only did in the first ep and then never revisited again, presumably because they realized it'd be far too much effort to work out the details on such a precise level

and thinking about like. that barry allen with the hyper-precise exact measurements that he did by eye (with joe shaking his head in awe so you know that he's a CSI supergenius) vs. the leonard snart who timed his heists to the exact nanosecond (which again, presuming they ditched because it's a logistical nightmare to write dialogue that nitpicky and obsessive, and would be such a fucking pain to do on a week-to-week basis). like. yet another reason they are soulmates tbh. is audhd4autistic a thing the same way t4t is a thing? if it isn't then i'm making it a thing

I do. I know some people think either he wouldn't have or he would've missed so that's why the writers had him shoot Dorian instead, but mmmmmm no, I don't personally think so. I like to think that if he had taken the shot, his shaky hands would've caused him to shoot her fatally.

Mostly because I'm already so normal about the fact that of the Ericson crew, Marlon and Louis are the only ones with a body count. Well, that we know of, but shown to us in the game, at least. Plus, we know it's Louis' first kill.

Like yeah, Clementine and AJ become part of the crew and they have bigger body counts, and if we're counting indirect kills caused by actions, then Tenn has a count... and I guess everyone has blood on their hands for blowing up the boat... but I'm talking about killed directly with a weapon like....... I lied, I'm not normal about that at all, Louis and Marlon are the ones who have killed someone in Louis' route. I'm also not normal about the fact that Louis kills Dorian and then even as he's clearly in shock, he tries to go with Clementine to get AJ, and then later on when they talk about it, he says it feels like bile but not quite and he's glad he has it in him to do it.... listen, listen, listen... I'm obsessed with that.

Anyway, so if Louis shot Minerva, I think he would've accidentally killed her and can you imagine? He's already enough of a mess after killing the woman who pinned him down and tried to cut his finger off [or succeeded] but he knew Minerva, they were friends before the twins were taken. Even Violet couldn't kill her even though that would've been the smarter thing to do, and we know thanks to meta knowledge that killing her would've saved lives, but Violet couldn't, and I don't think Louis would intentionally either.

Speaking of Violet, if Louis killed Minerva, I hate to think about what that would've done to Vi. I think she might've actually left at that point, like what was planned before it got changed to her being burned. I don't think she would've attacked Louis over it, though, like yeah she attacked Clementine in the cell but Louis? I don't know, but I don't think so just because it's Louis and he'd be a mess about it anyway.

Though if he did kill her, it would be a neat parallel to draw... y'know, because Louis forgave AJ for killing Marlon even though he was pissed and heartbroken, and Violet was annoyed with him the entire time... but could she ever forgive Louis for killing Minerva? Y'know? We already have a similar parallel with AJ shooting Tenn, but still.

If Clementine killed Minerva in that moment, though, then I could see Violet attacking her since in her eyes, Clem proved her right.

So yeah, I get why they added the Dorian kill to his route. It adds another compelling element to Louis as a character, but we also need Minerva alive for episode 4; Louis can't kill her, he can't miss, and he's not going to stay with her because we need Violet to stay on the boat and him to be on shore for all routes.

Just wanted to say thank you for the ottosuba posting you've done lately. The English speaking fandom is absolutely barren with Otto content, let alone ottosuba content. So to have someone as awesome about it as you post via Tumblr posts, fanfic, fanart, etc. on a good(-ish) website like Tumblr is like finding a diamond in the rough. Anyhow, looking forward to any future ottosuba content from you!

Efficiency yawns as they float through the realm of time, mirrors floating around them. It was the same old as ever, making sure the timeline was okay and nothing was out of place.

They land in front of a large mirror and reach out a hand, swiping against it as they look through. Mirror Sprites gather around them, all looking nervous.

"Uhm, Efficiency?" One speaks up, floating over. "There's, uh.. something we need to tell you."

"Hm?" Efficiency's eyes don't leave the mirror, but they give a hum, letting the sprite know that they're listening.

"There's.. a small hiccup in the timeline that needs to be fixed."

"Oh?" They raise an eyebrow. "We have two different meanings of small. Was someone meant to die, or did someone make a wrong decision made?"

"Someone.. was meant to die?" The Mirror Sprite squeaks.

They sigh. "Very well. Name?"

"Abyssal."

They raise a brow as they use the large mirror to swipe through. "Cause?"

"The Abyss."

Efficiency momentarily shudders. They were glad to have gotten away from the Abyss before it ever realized it made them. In the realm of time, that thing could never reach them, and no one knew of them. That was fine by them.

They get to the point in time and sigh. Abyssal looked like a good Admin, if not a push-over, but what had to be done had to be done.

Closing their eyes, code warps around them, and they assume their true form. Lifting an arm, mirror shards form their fingers. They reach forward, using their code to reach into the past-

When their fingers clink against the mirror, refusing them access to the past.

They clink their fingers against it again.

Slowly, the Mirror Sprites begin to back away.

Swiping further back, to another mistake, they try against to push into the past.

The mirror refuses to bend.

As Efficiency continues to try, the Mirror Sprites all slowly back away, knowing full well what was to come. Some even duck behind mirrors, in hope that'll protect them.

Efficiency stops, eyes glaring towards the mirror. Their body begins to shake with rage.

"Hit the deck!" A larger and older Mirror Sprite cries, and all the sprites preseny duck behind mirrors has Efficiency proceeds to curse like a sailor, their wings fluttering so quickly they could be used to power a whole city.

They slam their fist against the mirror, growling lowly. "So many.. mistakes. And I can't fix them."

They slowly drag their sharp fingers down the mirror, wings shuttering. "Maybe I'll need a different approach to fixing these.."

"But.. They're cemented in the timeline!" One sprite calls. "Won't changing them affect everything?"

"They're still considered mistakes by the mirror." Efficiency sighs, reverting to their more compressed form. "I'll work something. We'll continue work as usual."

Mirror Sprites, all nervous, just nod and slowly float off.

A more senior one, however, floats down.

"Blue," Efficiency greets him.

"Efficiency, please think about this." Blue says, floating after the time god as they jump down to a long platform. "If these changes are solidified, then they must have been meant to happen."

"Then why does the mirror consider them mistakes?" Efficiency argues.

"Because they used to be, but they aren't anymore." Blue closes his eyes, shaking his body. "Come now, you know that as well as ai do."

Efficiency pauses before sighing. ".. you're right. I'm just.. this is too much. How did so many mistakes get past me?"

"We'll figure it out." Blue assures them.

As they smile, there's the familiar sound of a door slamming open.

"CAN YOU KEEP QUIET?!"

"SHUT UP, DARK META KNIGHT!"

Writing Intimacy

i often see writers sharing a sentiment of struggling with writing kiss scenes which honestly bleeds into other portrayals of physical intimacy. i see it a lot in modernized styles of writing popularized by the recent trend in publishing to encourage short, choppy sentences and few adverbs, even less descriptive language. this makes intimacy come across awkward, like someone writing a script or clumsy recounting of events rather than a beautiful paragraph of human connection.

or just plane horniness. but hey, horny doesn't have to be mutually exclusive with poetic or sensual.

shallow example: they kissed desperately, tongues swirling and she moaned. it made her feel warm inside.

in depth example: she reached for the other woman slowly and with a small measure of uncertainty. the moment her fingers brushed the sharp, soft jaw of her companion, eliza's hesitance slid away. the first kiss was gentle when she finally closed the distance between them. she pressed her lips lightly to gabriella's in silent exploration. a tender question. gabriella answered by meeting her kiss with a firmer one of her own. eliza felt the woman's fingers curling into her umber hair, fingernails scraping along her scalp. everything inside eliza relaxed and the nervousness uncoiled from her gut. a warm buzz of energy sunk through her flesh down to the very core of her soul. this was right. this was always where she needed to be.

the first complaint i see regards discomfort in writing a kiss, feeling like one is intruding on the characters. the only way to get around this is to practice. anything that makes you uncomfortable in writing is something you should explore. writing is at its best when we are pushing the envelope of our own comfort zones. if it feels cringy, if it feels too intimate, too weird, too intrusive, good. do it anyway! try different styles, practice it, think about which parts of it make you balk the most and then explore that, dissect it and dive into getting comfortable with the portrayal of human connection.

of course the biggest part comes to not knowing what to say other than "they kissed" or, of course, the tried and true "their lips crashed and their tongues battled for dominance" 😐. so this is my best advice: think beyond the mouth. okay, we know their mouths are mashing. but what are their hands doing? are they touching one another's hair? are they scratching or gripping desperately at one another? are they gliding their hands along each other's body or are they wrapping their arms tightly to hold each other close? do they sigh? do they groan? do they relax? do they tense? are they comfortable with each other or giddy and uncertain? is it a relief, or is it bringing more questions? is it building tension or finally breaking it?

get descriptive with the emotions. how is it making the main character/pov holder feel? how are they carrying those emotions in their body? how do they feel the desire in their body? desire is not just felt below the belt. it's in the gut, it's in the chest, it's in the flushing of cheeks, the chills beneath the skin, the goosebumps over the surface of the flesh. everyone has different pleasure zones. a kiss might not always lead desire for overtly sexual touches. a kiss might lead to the desire for an embrace. a kiss might lead to the impulse to bite or lick at other areas. a kiss could awaken desire to be caressed or caress the neck, the shoulder, the back, the arms etc. describe that desire, show those impulses of pleasure and affection.

of course there is the tactile. what does the love interest taste like? what do they smell like? how do they kiss? rough and greedy? slow and sensual? explorative and hesitant? expertly or clumsily? how does it feel to be kissed by them? how does it feel to kiss them?

i.e. examine who these individuals are, what their motives and feelings are within that moment, who they are together, what it looks like when these two individuals come together. a kiss is not about the mouth. it's about opening the door to vulnerability and desire in one's entire body and soul.
