“The Art of being Painfully In Love”

There’s this guy in my class, I did not like him one bit.

He’s loud, and obnoxious, and he likes to throw a fit.

Everything about him annoys me indescribably,

From the way he talks to the way he walks to way he laughs at every stupid thing we see.

He lights up the room whenever he’s around,

When he smiles it’s like everyone is spellbound.

He speaks so highly of himself, like he’s the greatest the world has ever seen.

And whenever he’s near me, I feel so serene.

Wait, what? Have I grown soft for him? I wonder.

No, that can’t be. I’m supposed to hate him, remember?

But I guess I’m not immune to his charms.

I guess, like every other person, I’ve fallen directly into his arms.

So I let him stick around me as much as he’d like.

Let him annoy me with his presence as I watch,

Watch as he glows under the moonlight

And blooms like the beautiful flower that he is under the sunlight.

I tell myself I’m not in love, that’s what I tell other people too.

But good lord how come I notice everything about you?

From the way his eyes crinkle when he grins,

To the way he cowers when things get too intense.

Everything, I’ve noticed and learned everything.

His favourite movie, food, and the lyrics to the songs he sings.

His existence is like a blackhole, forever swallowing,

And I will forever be falling.

When I came to the realization, tears prickled at the corner of my eyes.

I can’t just tell him how I feel, what if it ends up in a mere goodbye?

But god, I am in love with him, and painfully so.

So, so, deeply in love that I don’t ever want to let go.

But I must. For he is such a saint, and I a mere sinner.

I have given up on everything while he still dreams that life will get better.

He is simply so lovely and I’ll only keep his greatness at bay,

But I will not let that happen, I will not get in the way.

Someone said to me once that love is the most twisted curse of all,

And perhaps that is true

Because you should never love me the way that I love you.

Tooru's first scar, Hajime's first scare

He is restless, very restless. He wriggles his fingers, some rubbing against the bandage his mother wrapped around his thumb earlier in the day, and the reddened hangnails throb a little sore. His legs dangle from the white chair, one swinging with an agitated rhythm.

The gentle caresses his mother's giving his back don't help. Hajime barely feels them. Neither do her soothing words. Hajime barely hears it.

His eyes are fixed on door 104. They have been for what seems like hours, even though they have been there for barely twenty minutes.

He wants to go in now. He needs to go in now. Everything feels too sterile, too silent, too grown-up. He wants Oikawa's warmth, the colour of his hair and eyes, his booming voice. He wants his best friend by his side.

Then, a soft creak resonates through the silent hallway, causing Hajime to tense completely in his seat. His fingers cease their movement, his legs freeze in place. There is something tugging at him inside his chest, a strong impulse that also makes his heart feel heavy and each beat ache against his ribs.

As someone exits the room, Hajime scarcely registers whether the doctor is male or female. That impulse wins him over, so he forgets all his manners, catapults himself from his chair and charges into the room, brushing past the surprised doctor and heedless of his mother's calls.

The corridor is very short, then opens into a large, bright room. Morning light bathes every corner, one of the windows is subtly open and the gentle breeze carries the fresh scent of the flowers that Oikawa-san is arranging, his back turned to Iwaizumi. But the little boy's gaze immediately falls on Tooru, lying on the bed.

"Hajime-chan! You're here!" His big round eyes light up with surprise under his ruffled hair, lips open in one of the prettiest, biggest smiles he's ever seen.

Iwaizumi's heart stops hurting and the colours come back.

"Oh, Hajime-kun, welcome" Oikawa-san also greets him, joyful.

Hajime barely pauses to give a small bow to him before walking over to the bed where Tooru is, just as his mother enters as well. He hears her call out to him again, with that serious tone she always has when she's going to scold him, but Oikawa-san says something that seems to calm her down.

"You have to see the Stitch sticker that Aya-sensei gave me for being very good! It's so cut...!" But Tooru's voice trails off as Hajime, who knows he shouldn't do that, that he should go easy because Tooru is freshly operated on, climbs onto the bed and wraps his little arms around Oikawa.

It's no longer cold, everything feels warmer and Iwaizumi's shoulders slump with relief.

"You're okay now, you're okay now," he murmurs, careful not to hug too tightly, to keep all his weight on the knees he's leaning on.

He knows that Oikawa is really well, his parents explained to him that appendicitis was not very serious as long as it was cured in time as it had happened with Tooru. Still, Tooru is his best friend, his favourite person (even though he drives him crazy every day at all hours). They have been together for as long as he can remember, there is not a day without Tooru, and if there is no Tooru, there is his memory, his name, their shared toys, the piece of clothing he always forgets.

He feels Tooru's little arms wrap around his body as well and his soft laughter tickles close to his ear.

"It's weird when you hug me first, Hajime-chan," he teases and Iwaizumi, for the first time since yesterday afternoon, smiles, blinking rapidly when he feels his eyes water.

He is a strong child. And although he knows that strong children cry too, he refuses to cry first.

"I hope they left you with an ugly scar" He strokes his back the way his mum does, sparingly, lovingly, carefully.

"Nothing's as ugly as your bad personality, you big meanie!" He protests, snuggling much closer.

OH MY GOD THESE GUYS. I love machi ofcofc and her & Yuki are sooo sweet but there is something so special about the first person you can truly be honest with. Kakeru takes Yuki's serious, standoffish, closed-off self, cracks a joke, cracks the door open, and lets Yuki crawl to him at his own pace. Kakeru represents a lot of Yuki's change and is the catalyst for most of it. Meanwhile, Yuki helps Kakeru with cool stuff like being a brother. Also, don't forget the shoujo bubbles 💀💀

Hello! Also thank you for the very fun questions, this was great to answer!

I'll do the name first as it's a quicker response. redrocketpanda is a mash up of Red Rocket (as in the red rocket truck stop from Fallout 4) and Red Panda (as in the animal). The story behind those is that I had recently played Fallout 4 (and am a fan of the entire franchise) and have big heart eyes for the Fallout aesthetic, and that although *I* think I would be a lion if I was a non-human animal, some of my close friends + ex partner joke that I'd actually be a red panda (small, tries to be big but isn't scary, red)

I was informed recently (as in last year) that it can also have a different meaning depending on what subcultures you're in but I choose to ignore that bc I didn't know at the time lmao

In terms of the chunkier part of the question - top 10 favourite fics ever - I will admit that I've never read much fic outside of smut for Reasons (as such my list will be quite heavy on smut and kink so heads up for that). I would def like to read more but tend to write more than I read.

The Whole of the Moon by ietjesiobhan - HQ Really tender, beautiful angst of the KuroKen soulmates AU variety. Genuinely think about it quite a lot

FAVOURITE HAIKYUU SHIPS (edited version)

1. BoKuroo - kill me. I'm a slut for rare pairs it seems and I'm furious but now I'm hooked. I love buffy bottoms and this one is not an exception (Bokuto Bottom Stan!!!). Also this ship could be both best friends to lovers (but different from bokuaka since BokuAka is very soft and wholesome while BoKuroo is just literal bro energy) or enemies to friends to lovers. I love the fraternity/bros energy because it's straight but it's so gay.

2. BokuAka - i guess I'm a slut for Bokuto but who can blame me? So here Akaashi is more of a bottom for me but tbh it depends how the fic and characters are written. So it actually depends hugely on dynamic description in the fic. Of course best friends to lovers plus pining plus wholesome but there is an equal potential for angst.

3. IwaOi - NOT ENOUGH IWAIZUMI BOTTOM FICS. As I said, i love buffy bottoms. Also they're friends but also enemies to mmmmmmm also angst potential. So much angst potential considering Oikawa high-key is a slut. Manwhore with women, if you will. So much angst potential.

4. SakuAtsu - I like bratty bottoms so Atsumu fits the role. Haven't read that many fics so I don't have a clear opinion on what I really like about them but I'm also a slut for enemies to lovers.

5. KenHina - wholesome and soft. Also it's canon that Kenma really has a weak spot for Hinata.

6. KageHina - rivals to lovers! Hinata bottoming because he is a sunshine and deserves to be taken care of. Also most basic ship but like can you blame people for shipping them?

7. KuroTsuki - they thrive on each others bullshit but I haven't found a fic yet that truly got my heart. Like in theory this ship make the most sense out of all Tsukishima and Kuroo ships but there is just something lacking, that's why this ship is so low compared to my previous post.

Fluff Week FAQ

General

Which characters/dynamics are you particularly interested in?

JJK – literally all common ones unless they’re illegal, particularly the first years & gojo (including all the variations - itafushi, platonic!itafushikugi, the gojo-megumi thing, the gojo-itadori thing, and of course, the much less explored megumi-nobara thing). No very-rare-pairs please, unless 100% platonic! I usually don’t like them. Also, bear in mind I may have to google characters if they come from Kyoto school because I literally forgot all their names.

HQ – I like most characters, but am especially fond of iwaoi and bokuaka (sakuatsu at a push). I love all team dynamics, with a special soft spot for the JNT and Seijoh. Again, no rare pairs please (even platonic, in this case) but I will know who most characters are!

TGCF: fengqing. I’m obsessed with fengqing. And hualian, of course. Basically Xianle trio + Hua Cheng and all their dynamics.

My favourite character is Hua Cheng, followed by Feng Xin, and then – you’ll hate me for this – Pei Ming. Please bear in mind that if you write about any niche characters from tgcf, or those that only appear later in the books, I will not know who they are :( He Xuan is about my limit for late-appearing characters, and he does not appear very late.

Do you mind which ships I use?

Not at all, as long as they aren't a major rarepair, or use characters I've never heard of. If you're not sure, don't be worried - you can always just ask! Either DM me or drop an ask in my inbox.

Are there any examples of found family you could suggest?

Yep! JJK is 100% found family, so there's no issue there - the school dynamic, gojo's dynamic with the students (particularly megumi), the first years' dynamic, the second years' dynamic, the teachers/adults dynamic...

HQ also has plenty of examples. Each team dynamic, duo dynamic, and mentor/mentee dynamic offers something new!

TGCF is a little harder. Nearly all the ships have an element of found family, but there's the Xianle trio and, if you want to get a bit ridiculous, the calamities can also be pretty funny if you wrangle them properly...

He's scared of everyone because of how he's been treated. Then James stumbles upon him in the alley where he's been hiding and offers him a place to stay. And then somehow wolfstar happens

My fave author is DailyMelody on ao3 and she's written both mb and iwaoi fics 💖 I have also done art for some of them

🌷My favourite iwaoi fic of theirs is guardian's rebirth . It's an ongoing demon hunter AU that currently has 4 chapters (31k words) and is rated (T). The world building is absolutely AMAZING and there's both action and funny+soft moments. I strongly recommend it if you want some slow burn iwaoi!

🌷 If you're more interested in some fast phased iwaoi i strongly recommend chasing after midnight (show me the way to your heart). It's also an all time fave and is about iwaoi meeting at a club and having a one night stand (it's so funny and sweet and sexy). One of the tags is #[disco music intensifies] idk if i need to tell you more. It's rated (M) and is 12k words.

🌷 Lastly i want to rec my fave matchablossom fic. It's called nights in paris and is part 6 of their mb series you feel like home (to me). I really rec the whole series but this fic in particular is very dear to me, just because it's so incredibly soft and just makes my heart SWELL. It's rated (T) and is 12k words.

The only het ship in anime I can respect, besides Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura 😌 they are the royal couple, so to speak. So much of shared history, trauma between them. Yet will give up their lives for each other, the trust and faith and sheer badassery of this ship is just ❤️

My first ever ship at age 14, the very first time I discovered that two boys can fall in love w each other and that's okay too!! This one came outta nowhere and totally hooked me in. Idk what it is about them : the potential angst, the misunderstandings, the rivalry and respect as fellow teammates, Chris' trauma about having his place snatched by this brilliant kid he helped scout....just...so much shared past :3 I'm sorry miyusawa fans, while I like it too, this one just took the top spot for me from DNA :')

BSD was a huge obsession in 2019, and soukoku undoubtedly became one of my fav ships. Hi, can I ask your top favorite fics that you've written (feel free how much that you want to list)? Why they're special to you? Is there a specific inspiration when you wrote them?

Hello! My favourite fics are often ones overlooked by the general public (who, for some reason, like showering love on the fics I hated writing and/or regret posting). Hence this list will be full of very short and very silly fics, since I like those best.

The Megumi-Isn't-Breathing Incident

This was only the second fic I wrote for JJK, and yet it's one of my favourites. First of all, it was written for one of my very first supporters, selcouthwanderer, whose comments I really miss. If not for them, there's no way I would've kept writing for Gojo & Megumi. Second of all, it was my very first foray into anything resembling angst (and it's still really fluffy. sigh) and it's proof to me that I have range as a writer. I'm mostly silly and I try hard to be funny, but I know I can be serious and I can dive deeper into my characters. Third of all, I think it's really well written! I genuinely surprised myself, upon rereading it, with the quality of my writing. I don't think I write to that standard normally, which makes it all the more special. If I wanted someone to think well of me as a writer, I'd show them to this fic.

2. Jump, then Fall

This one was written for the fengqing gotcha for gaza, so it came less from inspiration and more from a prompt by my good pal makki (@makkisucks). Still, I'm majorly proud of it!! It's much longer than anything I've written before and follows a plotline. Did everything turn out how I want? No. There are still things I'd change about it. But, again, it represents a major hill i climbed over - the curse of only writing 2k and then getting stuck. J,TF is 12k and completely coherent throughout. Win!

3. Chronically Ill Platypus

By contrast, this one's only 758 words and there's literally 0 plot. I like this one because it's the content I wish other people would produce so I can read it. Complex Matchablossom angst is fabulous but I wish more people actually looked at their relationship in its most basic form: they're best friends. Have been since they were five. They bring out the silliest, pettiest, most emotional side of each other and sometimes all you really want is to see them be best friends. I got a few comments along the lines of "thanks for writing them like this!! everyone wants to ship them these days (eye roll)" so I do want to be clear, I SHIP MATCHABLOSSOM. But sometimes friendship is more important than whether or not they kiss. I feel the same about iwaoi; I don't always want to see them kiss, I want to see them be silly and comfortable with each other like best friends are.

4. Bon Jovi, Autographs, and Sunshine

I haven't read over it in a while so I have no idea if it's up to current writing standards (my writing has noticeably improved over the last few years) but I remember loving this one. Justice for solangelo! I also remember someone marking it as 'ooc but i like it'. I nearly threw myself out the window because I really pride myself on my characterisation. But I stand by it, to be honest, I don't think it's ooc to any noticeable extent.

ANYWAYS. I like this fic because, again, it's the kind of thing I wish there was more of. It's chaotic and ridiculous and has no plot, it's just soft and I can literally see it in my mind's eye, tinted yellow, warm, fun... Solangelo was a massive comfort ship for me for years and this was just me expressing that. I only ever write for myself and this was peak Astro Fanfiction!!

My fav haikyuu ships:

1. BokuAka (preferably Bokuto on top but largely depends on the fic and how the characters are written) - best friends trope is my weakness and also I love both of them, canon compliant is the best because I can see those dumbasses fall in love. I just wish people wrote them with a little bit more of angst and pining and in my mind Bokuto can be as cruel as other people. Give my boy an egde or sth.

2. SakuAtsu (Sakusa on top because Atsumu is a brat and y'know) - rivals/enemies to lovers of course is my second favourite trope and also there is possibility for lots of angst and I LOVE ANGST. Of course it works the best in canon compliant.

3. KuroTsukki (kuroo on top) - of course KuroKen is great and I love it too but they thrive on each others bullshit.

4. IwaOi (Oikawa on top and there's so little fics with Oikawa on top) - friends to lovers but in an angry/angsty way.

5. KageHina (Kageyama on top) - it's the most popular but also, can you blame people? Rivals to lovers!!!

6. KenHina (kenma on top) - BECAUSE KENMA WOULD BE SO SOFT FOR HINATA DONT EVEN @ ME!

the morning breeze blew through y/n’s hair, the girl gazed out her window the warm sun shining onto her skin brought a smile onto her face as she looked down over the fire nation.

people of all nations walked through the streets interacting with each other, the sound of shop keepers shouting out there latest product for purchase and the music being played by people on the street made y/n smile.

whilst she scanned the streets just people watching her eyes fell upon one couple they were walking together holding hands, the girl seemed to be telling a story whilst the boy was watching her as if she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

I wish someone would look at me like that, well really only one person

y/n sighed a pout forming on her face as she thought about her latest problem, zuko.

y/n had been living at the palace for the past 5 years and has watched the fire lord grown up, turning from that hot headed boy she used to tease into a level head and compassionate man who she now called her best friend.

continuing to zone out y/n didn’t hear the small knocks on her bedroom door or the small patter of feet quickly running towards her

“Y/N!” a small pair of arms threw themselves around her hips causing y/n to loose her balance a little bit

“kiyi spirits you gave me a bit of a fright, what do i owe the pleasure of a visit from you honey” y/n laughed at the overly excitable young girl who was practically bouncing on the spot

“well mummy said that i can have the rest of the day off from um royal duties, so do you want to have lunch with me and the turtle ducks!” kiyi practically squealed out without taking a breath, her big eyes looking hopefully up to the girl

“well of course i would love to,but first let me change okay you can sit on my bed i’ll be super quick” y/n smiled pointing kiyi to the bed as she went to change, the young scrambling up onto the bed looking all around y/n’s room before getting an idea

“oh y/n can you pretty pwease wear that super nice dress that makes you look like a princess” kiyi exclaimed bouncing on the bed excitedly

“of course honey but why that dress?” y/n laughed at the young girls antics

“zuzu said it to me that you looked like a princess when you wore the dress last time” kiyi giggled out “he had a hugeee smile on his face when he said it too i think he has a crush on you, do you like zuzu y/n?”

y/n’s walked over to the mirror to grab her brush trying to hide her extremely red cheeks and obvious fluster from kiyi

“awww y/n you look red like your dress, it’s okay i won’t tell zuzu i pinky promise” the little girl ran over sticking out her little finger to y/n

y/n shook her head and let out a nervous laugh kneeling down to kiyi wrapping her pinky around the girls then taking holding her hand and standing up

“okay let’s go to the garden’s, we can walk past the kitchen and get our lunch as well?” y/n smiled thinking if she moved past the conversation quickly enough kiyi would forget all about it

“yes yes but on the way can we drop something to zuzu?” kiyi said giving her bets puppy dog eyes and face

“yes i’m sure he would love a visit from you” y/n exclaimed heels clicking on the ground and her heart racing at the mention of her best friend

once the girls had collected there lunch, they stopped at zuko’s office the two guards that stood out the front greeted them with smiles as kiyi pulled the small card out of her pocket

“can you pwease give this to zuz- i mean fire lord zuko?” the small girl said looking at the guards

“of course” the guard nodded shooting her a friendly smiled

“thank you, oh tell him it’s urgent” kiyi said showing her toothy smile before running back to hold y/n’s hand, the girls both waved to the men before walking to the gardens

zuko sighed looking down at all of his paper work, signing them aimlessly placing them in all different kinds of piles his stomach rumbling for about the tenth time

spirits i hate paper work i wonder what’s for lunch

a knock signalled his guards where entering, the two men walking in standing in front of his desk

“fire lord zuko a message from princess kiyi she said it was urgent” the man bowed trying to hold in a smile

“thank you” zuko nodded taking the little card, the men walking out and resuming there posts

zuko looked down at the colourful card seeing pictures of turtle ducks drawn all over the front with little love hearts and in attempted cursive the word “zuzu” was written

zuko shook his head at the nickname his sister had made for him before opening the colorful card

hi zuzu!

pwease come and have lunch with me y/n and the turtle ducks

p.s i made y/n wear the dress you thought looked pretty on her

zuko skimmed over the letter carefully trying to decipher kiyi squiggly hand writing, smiling to himself at the invite from his sister until he read the last sentence

“fuck, spirits kiyi what did you do” the fire lord muttered sucking in air as he read the last sentence over again

great zuko way to be smooth tell your little sister she won’t tell anyone about your feelings for your best friend

zuko placed his head in his hands shaking it back and forth, thinking about what he can do to fix this

you know what i am going to have lunch with them and act like everything is normal

the fire lord stood from his desk and walked out the door towards the gardens acting like nothing was wrong

“honey you have to eat first then we can feed the turtle ducks okay” y/n laughed out rolling her eyes at the girl who was now ankle deep in the turtle duck pond throwing small crumbs to the fluffy creatures

“okay but shouldn’t we wait for zuzu” kiyi exclaimed to y/n titling her head at the girl before her smiled widen and she began to sprint

“zuzu you got my letter!” kiyi squealed jumping into her brothers arms, zuko catching her with ease spun her around before placing her down on the ground

“well how could i deny my to favourite girls lunch especially with that beautiful card” zuko exclaimed to kiyi while giving y/n a wink causing her to roll her eyes and stick out her tongue

the group sat down basking in the warm sun and eating until there stomachs were full, the turtle ducks cautiously coming closer to inspect the group as they discussed there day

“so then i finished my um royal lesson and i went to get y/n and doesn’t she look so pretty in her dress zuzu? i told her to wear because i know you like it” kiyi giggled sitting in between the two now flustered adults

“yes she does look very pretty” zuko smirked drinking in y/n’s appearance making the girl’s face dust with blush as she turned her head towards the pond attempting to not make eye contact with zuko

“kiyi look the turtle ducks look hungry why don’t we feed them” y/n smiled to the young girl handing her the turtle duck food before walking over to the pond with kiyi, zuko trailing behind trying to hold in his fluster

“aww y/n look at the turtle duck mummy and daddy they look just like you and zuzu” kiyi squeaked throwing the two creatures a generous amount of bread before zuko and y/n trying to avoid eye contact there faces getting more flustered by the second

“ why aren’t you guys a couple zuzu likes y/n and y/n likes zuzu i don’t see the problem” kiyi states looking at the two adults who’s jaws where practically on the floor from shock

“kiyi um why don’t um why don’t you go get some fruit tarts from the kitchen?” zuko smiled at the young girl kneeling down towards her to give her a wink

“okay be back in a second” kiyi exclamied skipping off to the kitchen unknown to the mess she had just made

the pair looked at each other, then away, then looked again and then away until y/n finally talked

“so um this is incredibly awkward” y/n said out crossing her arms trying to advert eye contact

“yeah definitely” zuko chuckled scratching behind his neck

“you know what zuko i’m just going to say it yes i have feelings for you and i probably should have told you and not kiyi but i did and i’m sorry but i didn’t want to ruin our friendship but i really like you a lot zuko and i um-” zuko’s lips shut off y/n’s rambling his hands cradled her jaw, raising it up mere inches to meet his.

his soft lips slotted against y/n’s before any other syllables slipped past her lips. after the initial shock wore off, the girls fingers curled around his wrists attempting to bring the fire lord closer to her.

as there lips unlocked there foreheads rested together, chests heaving from the lack of oxygen

“i guess that means you like me back” y/n chuckled out looking into the fire lord’s warm brown eyes

“definitely love, definitely” zuko smirked craning his neck to kiss y/n once more but interrupted by a very high pitch squeal erupting from behind them

“oh spirits my plan worked now you can get married and have babies oooh yay” kiyi squealed running over to hug y/n and zuko, the turtle ducks quacking happily in the background as the sun shone down on the happy little family.
