The Industrial Revolution(ler!Prussia, lee!Germany)
A/N:Hi everyone!!!this is my first fic, hope you'll like it!I love the Prussia/Germany dynamic, they are simply the best of the best fr
‼️This fanfiction contains tickles‼️
Word count: 2248
Eh, the end of the 19th century... The Industrial Revolution, progress in all spheres of society, well, isn't it a beauty? The embodiment of the newly emerged German Empire, young Ludwig Beilschmidt, is no longer so young and is growing and developing by leaps and bounds. For the last few years of its existence, it has to work especially actively because of competition between states and the need to increase its authority on the international market of goods. Every day, from morning to night, he works on designing new equipment and manufacturing high-quality commodity units.
To be honest, he would have long since died with all this work fuss, if not for his older brother, Gilbert Beilschmidt, who has been raising him since birth. He taught Ludwig everything he knew himself, and helps him in everything he can help in order to make a powerful and worthy state out of him; in general, he is an excellent brother, only at first glance at these two, because of the differences in characters, you can't immediately tell that he is his brother. However, it has never bothered anyone.
On this day Ludwig and Gilbert had a lot of work: in the first half of the day it was production, then testing of new goods, and after that a meeting with England, Arthur Kirkland, dedicated to the export and import of goods. In general, they lost their minds, but Ludwig, still unaccustomed, of course, was more tired. Therefore, having crossed the threshold of the house and taken off his shoes, Germany immediately went into the living room and, now relaxed with thoughts of rest, took off his jacket and lay down on the sofa in a shirt, trousers and socks. The sound of the front door closing was heard, and a couple of seconds later Gilbert came into the living room, also without a jacket. Prussia took a couple of steps to the sofa, sat on the edge, half-turned to the West, and gave the younger the usual confident smile, to which Germany just sighed and lay on his side.
"Brother... This is some kind of horror," Ludwig said with an emotionless expression on his face, looking somewhere in front of him. The intonation with which this phrase was said seemed very funny to the Prussian, so he laughed loudly.
"Excuse me, West, I couldn't restrain myself," said Prussia, quickly calming down."I understand it's hard for you now, but believe me, you'll get used to it soon, and it won't be so difficult anymore."
"According to your stories, it's only difficult in the war, but here, it turns out, it's like this... Political and economic issues will soon drive me mad," Germany continued. He never allowed himself to open up to anyone, but his brother is an exception to this rule, especially when they are alone at home. Prussia was with him throughout his life and never condemned him for anything, but only supported him in everything. And besides, even if Ludwig feels bad, but does not tell Gilbert, the elder will still notice that something is wrong and will get his way." Uh, em... sometimes it starts to seem that I'm doing everything wrong, and people are unhappy, and I do not know how to please them."
"Come on, I don't need it here!" The elder shouted with mock anger and poked the younger in the shoulder. "Don't be sour, West! Forget about it, you'll be fine, everything will be fine!"
The brothers were silent for half a minute. Ludwig felt a little calmer after this conversation, but his heart was still anxious and somehow not at all fun. Gilbert was great at sensing the atmosphere; he could see how much Junior was going through. How could he cheer him up?
Prussia looked from Junior to his hands. Suddenly an idea popped into his head, bad lights danced in his eyes.
"West, you're not happy," Gilbert stated the fact, running his right index finger along the fabric of the sofa.
"Yes, is it true, or what?" Ludwig gasped with feigned surprise. He noticed a strange sly note in the elder's voice, and it bothered him a lot.
"I know how to fix it!"
****
"Come on, West! Laugh!" of the sounds surrounding Prussia are only his own proud giggling, the rustling of fabric and the confused breathing of the younger."Come on!"
Now in their living room you could see this picture: Gilbert, straddling Ludwig's hips, proudly sitting on his younger brother and poking, then fingering his sides.
A few restrained sighs come out of Germany's mouth. Ludwig himself tries to resist tickling sensations, bites the inside of his cheek and his lips to restrain laughter. He grabs the older man's wrists, trying to push Gilbert's hands away and wriggle out from under him.
"Hey!" Prussia, seeing that the West was trying to escape, quickly pressed his hands with his knees, continuing his actions. This deprived the younger of the last escape route, leaving only the opportunity to squirm under the elder. "What do you think you are doing?"
Another couple of sharp pokes on the sides. Ludwig suddenly choked on air and coughed, which surprised Gilbert very much.
"West, are you kidding me?" the elder stopped for a few seconds so that the younger could even out his breathing. "I'm trying to help you here, actually, I want you to relax and not be so constrained, and you're ruining all my plans!" To be
honest, for Germany it was little like relaxation. No, he certainly didn't hate it, but the tickling is so embarrassing! Making someone laugh in this way is very sadistic, don't you think (and what, just in the spirit of Prussia)? In any case, the sensations were tolerable so far; if Gilbert continues at the same pace, then he will simply get bored with it due to the lack of reaction, and he will stop. In this case, Germany will definitely be able to withstand it. He'll handle it.
At least, that's what he thought. Until Prussia really got bored with it, but instead of stopping, as Ludwig expected, he decided to move his merciless attack from his brother's sides to his ribs, his more sensitive place.
Germany felt like an electric shock. He arched his back and made a sound vaguely resembling either a snort or a cry. Prussia, seeing that his brother would break down pretty soon, grinned and continued working harder with his fingers somewhere in the area of the younger's upper ribs. No matter what anyone said, and, in addition to the role of a loving older brother, Gilbert was also a real sadist: he pressed, easily ran his fingers, poked and, in principle, affected his brother's nerves in such a way as to cause as interesting reactions as possible. From such actions, Germany wanted to wriggle out, cover himself with his hands, squeeze into the sofa and, of course, laugh. Ludwig was no longer so confident in his abilities, so he just squinted and did not let a silly smile appear on his face until the last moment, waiting for it all to end.
And why didn't Gilbert immediately remember that West is ticklish? When Ludwig was a little boy, Prussia very often had to (oh, who is he kidding, it's already clear from him that he is more than satisfied with it) tickle him to cheer up or to conduct a so-called "endurance training". And if we take into account the fact that there were also such persons as Austria, France and Spain in his life... In general, we can say that he was a real expert in his field, and even with an excellent memory, because now he was furiously trying to remember which places on the body of his most beautiful brother were more sensitive.
Suddenly he had an idea. He stopped tormenting Ludwig's upper ribs, lightly running his fingers from them to the lower ribs, then along the sides and stopped where the pelvis connects to the hip, placing his palms on this place. He looked at Ludwig, whose eyes, from this shameless act of the elder, were like two silver coins in size.
"B-brother, I beg you, don't," said Ludwig, who was extremely nervous, trembling slightly. "Let's try to negotiate..."
"West, I'm not doing anything, and you're already all worn out! Are you still ticklish after all these years?"
Gilbert deliberately teased the younger one, bending his fingers very slightly. He remembered that even a small influence in this area, combined with a light teasing, would work perfectly on Ludwig and definitely make him laugh; the same tactics works perfectly on Antonio, by the way. "And in general, what is it that you and I have to agree on? I think everything is as clear as day," at this point, Prussia decided not to tease Ludwig anymore, either having mercy on the younger, or simply speeding up out of boredom, so he sharply squeezed his brother's hips, and mentally made a note:West is growing a real diplomat, ready to compromise.
The reaction to the compression followed immediately. Ludwig jerked so hard that he almost dropped himself and Gilbert from the sofa, and a ringing but tired laugh, which sounded like surrender, finally came from his lips. Prussia, hearing that the West had finally stopped fighting, laughed his trademark laugh not at his brother but with him—he was so pleased with himself and glad that he could finally make his brother laugh.
Under the elder's hands, Ludwig desperately writhed, stretched his neck, arched his back and let out more and more giggles. He lost. He was completely unarmed against his brother, all attempts to escape ended in a grand failure. Although, you know, Germany was not particularly against it. Even though he and Gilbert spent all their time together, traveling around the country and sitting at blueprints, he really lacked tactile contact or simple, like a father's, care, as before, in childhood. Ludwig would never admit his desire to anyone on pain of death. But, even so, this is not the kind of pastime he expected! The only drawback in his life, as he believed, was his sensitivity to tickling, and also Gilbert's dexterous fingers, which constantly tormented him as a child, with and without a reason, and made him scream and beg for mercy. No matter what anyone says out of ignorance, Prussia really was a master in this sphere, Ludwig is firmly convinced of this to this day.
And Prussia was having fun with absolutely undisguised delight, like a small child who was presented with a long-awaited toy. He, determined to extract as much benefit as possible from his fortunate position, skillfully scratched with short nails and squeezed the hips of West through the fabric of his trousers. After he began massaging with the thumbs of both his hands the places where the hips and pelvis meet, and with the rest of his fingers he drove where the sides connect with the back, Ludwig squealed very unmanly, and his laughter rose a couple of octaves.
"West, aren't you ashamed of yourself? I'm trying to relax you here, and you're laughing at me! Do you know what usually happens for this?" Gilbert asked threateningly, insidiously moving the fingers of one hand in the air, and continuing the execution with the other.
Ludwig tried to hold back his laughter for a couple of seconds and quickly nodded his head. Of course, he knows what usually happens for this. He went through this as a child. By the way, he didn't last long, and literally a second later, laughter was pouring out of him again in torrents.
"Well, that's great!" and continued what he was doing.
"Enough, please! Brother, that's enough, that's it!" now Ludwig really felt like in his childhood. It was the same words that he always used trying to stop his brother before, being in similar situations, but this, unfortunately, never helped him. Gilbert never listened to his pleadings about stopping tickling, but, at the same time, he has never overdone it. Prussia was very observant and always knew when to stop.
Just about a minute later, Gilbert decided that it would be enough for Ludwig, and he had already "relaxed" enough and laughed. Prussia began to slow down gradually, and after ten seconds stopped altogether, replacing the teasing movements with strokes and rubbing to erase the residual tickling sensations.
If someone had said that Gilbert was at least a milligram dissatisfied with the work he had done and the result obtained, then this person could have been accused of treason. Ludwig was lying on the sofa, trying to even out his breathing as soon as possible, with his head slightly thrown back and his arms and legs spread out. The shirt and trousers, of course, were crumpled, the bangs were disheveled, a thick blush colored the cheeks.
" Better?" Gilbert asked, getting up from junior's hips and sitting down next to his brother on the couch.
"I'll never tell you anything again," of course it's not true. Germany firstly leaned on his elbows, then took a sitting position, hanging his legs from the sofa.
"I love you too, West," the elder Beilschmidt said, half with mockery, half with a caring intonation, first patting Ludwig on the back in a fatherly way, then putting his left arm around his shoulders.
A faint, sincere, laid-back smile appeared on Germany's lips. After all, Gilbert-style relaxation helped him.

So! Today I'd like to address a very important issue at the forefront of all your minds: the Morton Salt girl. She's a real elephant in the room, right? You were totally sat at your computer today thinking 'I wish someone would talk about the Morton Salt Girl.'
Well, wish no longer because here I am
What the fuck is the Morton Salt Girl
I won't lie to you, I actually didn't know what the Morton Salt Girl was two hours ago either. Basically, it's something I read an article about this morning, was transfixed by, did some more research on, decided was the most interesting poetic coolest thing ever, and then will have forgotten about by lunch. This is something that happens to me with alarming frequency.
The Morton Salt Company is like the salt company in the United States. It's been around since 1848, originally just selling salt but now manufacturing it also. At first just playing the table salt game, they've since grown their empire to include industrial sales like road and highway use.
In the early 20th century, table salt used to clump when it was rainy outside. This is because of loads of sciencey reasons that I don't care about, basically all you need to know is that if it was rainy or humid outside, salt would clump, and therefore wouldn't come out of the shaker. Try your best to keep your cool while imagining such a dystopia.
Morton Salt got some science geeks to do some sciencing (or that's the gist or it anyway, I'm not quite sure of their specific process) that made salt not do that anymore. So, when it was raining outside Morton's salt wouldn't clump, it would pour through the shaker.
To celebrate this victory over salt-clumpiness Morton launched a new ad campaign with the slogan (and this is fucking genius) "When it rains, it pours" Yeah, I know, that slaps. I love that so much.
Along with this new slogan came a new logo... the Morton Salt Girl. A young girl in a downpour, carrying an umbrella in one hand and a bag of salt in the other. The salt is flowing from the bag despite the rain, something only Morton salt would do.
None of this is what this post is about. Let's get on to the actual post.
Rating the Morton Salt Girl
Since 1917 there have been seven iterations of the Morton Salt Girl and I have opinions about every single one. I'm going to give them all a rating out of ten based on just pure vibes man, just vibes, and then rank them from best to worst.
Here are all the Morton Salt girls, for reference. This post would be pretty shit if I didn't include an image of all the Morton Salt girls.
1914 - 8/10
I honestly love this one. The OG, The classic, she is the Morton Salt Girl. She's such a bizarre ugly little troll thing and it's so vintage. She really looks like an authentic grubby little kid. If it was 1914 you could imagine this grubby cheeky little girl stood outside holding a bag of salt and spilling it everywhere, that's so totally something she would do. The way the salt is just falling STRAIGHT down, I love. It's not overly whimsical like some of the others, it really looks like this stupid lil kid is spilling the salt, and she's totally unaware it's happening, and her mother is going to be so mad. I strongly dislike the umbrella handle, though. Just a bad umbrella handle and I don't need to explain that take at all.
1921 - 4/10
For me, this misses the mark. I hate her smile, why is she staring at me like that. Fuck off you little creep. I do really like that they've made her dress more dynamic and added that bit of movement, that's nice. That's actually great, damn, and I'd say the dynamic movement in her dress is probably the best out of all of them, but I'm still not bumping her up past a four. Originally she was going to score higher, because I thought those were wellies, but I'm actually not sure they are? The left foot looks like a welly (which would be amazing - she would look so much better with wellies) but the right foot looks more like a shoe with high socks, which makes more sense because that's what all the others have. Not sure. I hate her hair, it looks awkward and fucked up. I'm okay with the salt. Whatever. Next.
1933- 7/10
Now, this Morton Salt Girl is a little cutie! She's basically the same as 1921 but just prettier, way way nicer to look at. I think her bow is adorable, her dress is also incredibly adorable, and the umbrella handle is a real improvement. Her legs are definitely my favourite, she looks like she's taking a big swinging enthusiastic step, which is how I walk through the rain at my absolute cutest. The others seem more like they're posing for a photograph. I also like that her legs are kind of chubby. After 1914, she's the one who feels the most like an actual little girl. I don't really like the shading on top of her umbrella, and I'm not a huge fan of the whimsical way the salt is spilling, but she's a solid contender for the top spot, she's great.
1941 - 6/10
Okay, so this one is pretty cute, but she evokes something culturally that I just don't like. She looks too perfect and pretty and Southern USA. She remind me of child beauty pageants and it just puts me off? I really like her little yellow socks, they're adorable, and the colour scheme off this one is a big reason for why I like it. This is definitely just personal preference but I also think she looks too happy? Like girl, your salt is spilling. Why are you over the moon about it. The Morton Salt Girl should tell a story, I should feel something for her. This one doesn't look like a girl, it looks like a logo. And I hate that.
1956 - 3/10
They just took the 41 Salt Girl and made it worse. This is the exact same design but objectively worse in like five ways. Why have they got rid of the blue? Why is she holding the umbrella at such an awkward and terrible angle? Stop smiling at me, I hate you. I definitely think the lack of blue here is a bit of a travesty and the previous model looked so much better with the blue under the umbrella. The one saving grace here is those adorable yellow socks, I really like them. But at the same time it makes me wish she was wearing yellow wellies because that would be off the charts. I would love the Morton Salt Girl to be wearing little yellow wellies.
I've come back to this one to add that the salt looks AWFUL here. Those ugly looking DOTS. Why?? It looks so bad. No thanks. I don't want to put that on my chips.
1968 - 8/10
I like this a lot. They've got rid of her cheesy grin, which I really like. There's a poetic melancholy to this salt girl, as there should be. Rain is so melancholic and bitter sweet, standing in the rain evokes a lot of emotions and I feel like this Salt Girl is properly displaying those emotions. I really like that there's still some shading here, it reminds me of the earliest mascots with it's vintage feel and really gives her an edge over the 2014 salt girl, whose lack of detail makes her seem more corporate. I will say that, for me, that dress is a little bit short. It didn't need to be that short. But yeah, she's great. She's really filling the role, she's definitely the most emotive. The decision to go with a lighter blue for the inside of the umbrella is a good one, I think it modernised and moved forward the colour scheme without destroying it. The yellow handle is a fabulous touch also. The salt here is great - that looks like salt. Good salt. I love the way it's spilling.
Although, we've lost the frilly socks! This is deeply upsetting to me as I loved the frilly socks. Almost as much as I would've loved wellies.
2014 - 7/10
I don't have a whole lot to say about this one, I'd consider her just a modernisation of the 1969 model but more boring. I think her hair is great, and I like that she's looking down. The dress is flowing perfectly but again I think it's just a bit too short for me. Her shoes are an improvement on the last one, they've very cute. The choice to have the rain bouncing off the umbrella is absolute genius and I love it. It makes my heart hurt for the lack of umbrella-rain-bouncing in the 1933 salt girl. The handle as well is perfect and the brolly looks sophisticated overall. I think the complete abandonment of the original colour is a real shame, but overall I really like this Morton Salt Girl. She does a lot in terms of the same melancholy look that 1968 had and I can understand why someone would like her more.
FINAL RANKING
Number One................ 1914. You just can't beat the OG, but it was close!
Number Two................. 1968 incredible showstopping amazing fabulous.
Number Three.............. 2014
Number Four................ 1933
Number Five................. 1941
Number Six................... 1921
Number Seven............. 1956
I don't care if this doesn't match with the 1-10 ratings I gave them. This is my blog, fuck you. I'm the boss here. Yeah. whatever

478. 93 things about 1993, part 4
(part 3)
(source)
18. ValuJet flies for the first time (October 26)
ValuJet's first flight was from Atlanta to Tampa on October 26, 1993. By 1994, the planes with their silly mascot on them had made 15 emergency landings! 1 On June 8, 1995 one of their ancient planes had an engine fire on the tarmac in Atlanta.
We all know what happened to ValuJet just 2 1/2 years later.
19. Kenneth Junior French kills 4 because of "gays in the military". (August 7th)
He got four life terms + an extra 35 years tacked onto his sentence.
Newsweek, February 8, 1993
20. Socks Mania
People went absolutely feral over Bill Clinton's cat, Socks. There was merch:
Such as this Socks cat food container (eBay seller passalong)
This Socks watch that I still remember seeing at my local Kmart in 1996. Yes, the battery was dead. (eBay seller ha-340226)
This socks doll I also remember seeing at Kmart on a family vacation in Ohio that I desperately wanted. (eBay seller 13navybeans)
I don't have the date on it, but here is a clip of kids petting Socks at Christmas.
21. Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett get married (June)
When Roberts returned to the set of The Pelican Brief following her wedding, the cast and crew (including co-star Denzel Washington) threw her a party in which they all wore shirts that read: "He’s A Lovely Boy … But You Really Must Do Something About His Hair" on the back. 2
They only lasted til 1995, but they were cute together.
22. Base Closings (March)
Growing up, I thought this was the first time bases closed in the U.S., ever. No, a whole bunch closed just a couple of years prior!

23. Florida tourists killed
The state government ordered that all company logos be removed from rental cars, and it abolished special license tags for such vehicles. Rental car agencies now give customers detailed safety brochures in English, Spanish, German and other languages, and they play tape recordings with similar messages over the public address systems in their rental offices every five minutes. 3
There was even a bit in the SNL episode (hosted by Shannen Doherty) where Phil Hartman played Disney's Michael Eisner, alerting tourists that you'll won't get murdered in northern Florida where Disney is:
Hi, I’m Michael Eisner, speaking to you from the Magic Kingdom here in Orlando. You know, for the last few months, Florida has been victim to a terrible tragedy: the horrific murder of nine foreign tourists in Southern Florida. We here in Northern Florida express our sympathies.. to the families of those murdered hundreds of miles away.. in Miami, the capitol of Southern Florida.
8 tourists were killed in 1993. 4
24. Miller Clear
Faced with lackluster sales, the Miller Brewing Company has ended its market test of Miller Clear, the brewing industry's first clear beer. "We're not manufacturing it any longer for the near term," Eric Kraus, a spokesman for the Milwaukee-based brewer, said on Tuesday. "We had a tremendous initial trial, but repeat business was not necessarily as good." The beer that has been made will be sold, but no more will be brewed, Mr. Kraus said. In April, Miller began test-marketing its clear beer in Richmond, Minneapolis and Austin, Tex. 4
(there's some more about it on Weird Universe)
25. Tonya Harding's dress pops (January)
Earlier this year, a snap on her costume broke at the United States championships. At the 1992 Olympic trials, her blades were mounted slightly out of position, leaving her stranded with a broken axel. Skate problems also delayed her arrival at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France, where she finished a disappointing fourth. By 1993, fourth was the best she could do at the United States championships. 5

Dressing Slaves For Work
I was listening to an interesting presentation on Plantation Goods – these were the products made for the enslaved workers in the south. These included the textiles woven for the clothes worn by the cotton pickers, the tools used by the agricultural and mine workers, and the shoes and hats required by these enslaved folk. Much of this stuff was made by businesses in the north of America, thus linking the slave economy with the greater United States. The author of this book, Seth Rockman, recounts some fascinating and unexpected historical information he found detailed in letters between the merchants and slave holdings involved.

Plantation Goods Equipping The Enslaved
In one incident a group of irate slaves and their master confront a Charlestown merchant and New England manufacturer about the poor quality of the bulk order of clothing provided. The author of Plantation Goods reveals how important the outfitting of enslaved plantation workers was to the optimal running of such exploitative operations. Too often we don’t think about such things in such intimate ways, which immunises us from the realities of slavery to a great degree. If you make an effort to imagine yourself working from dawn to dusk in a physically demanding activity and think about how important it would be to have attire that supports you in executing your labour. Clothing protects us from the elements and for outdoor agrarian slaves it would have been essential. Slaves who were neglected by their owners in this fashion would have been more likely to get upset and the precarious balance in the south was prone to eruptions of rebellion and runaways.

Dressing Labourers For Hard Work
This minutiae strikes me so sharply, I think, because I have been labouring myself under the hot sun of late. The last 8 months have seen me sign on as part of a labour hire work crew. We were issued with 3 high visibility work shirts in the attractive hue of bright orange, 3 pairs of dark blue dungarees, a bright orange broad brimmed hat to keep the sun off, and were recompensed for our purchase of a pair of steel capped work boots. Initially, we were not issued work gloves and gators, as was supposed to have occurred. Of these items of work attire and PPE, the shirts (long sleeved) were all too short to be tucked into pants, the blue work pants were all different sizes in contradiction of how I ordered them, obviously, desiring the one uniform size, and the hat’s brim collapsed after a couple of weeks and I could not get it up again. I soldiered on with what I had been allocated, thinking to take the rough with the smooth. However, after a couple of months at the mercy of the elements, the early morning winter chills in darkness and then, the high humidity and heat as summer fast approached I realised how bloody important it is to be properly outfitted when labouring nearly 9 hours a day. I sort of know about dressing slaves for work. The Importance Of A Labourer’s Attire The sweat stains upon shirts and whether the armpits breathe at all. The fabric and weave of your work garments impact upon how you deal with the heat bodily. The rub and rashes you can develop from continual movement in damp clothing imbued with perspiration. My nipples would get really sore, like a nursing mother, but from the rubbing against sweaty fabric. The constant walking on uneven ground in heavy work boots would put strain upon my ankles and lower legs. Their immersion in slushy ground and puddles would mean wet socks. Wearing big thick socks to cushion the constant blows upon my feet from walking became very apparent. On some days we would take 25, 000 steps according to the fitness app on my smart phone. Both the main buttons of the 2 pairs of dungarees I could regularly wear to work soon popped off and I was forced to pull out needle and thread to replace them. These were my essential garments, along with the orange shirts and thick work socks, I depended upon and I have to wash them and hang them out to dry 3 times a week to meet the hygienic demands of 9 day fortnights. Quite apart from the malodorous smell you cannot keep wearing them because of crutch bite in this humid heat. Dressing slaves for work is vitally important, even when you are the slave yourself.
History That Touches Us In Tactile Ways I do not wish to make light of what real slavery was, however, as there are no actual whips (just passive aggressive messaging) determining my productivity. Seth Rockman is an eloquent speaker and expert on Atlantic slavery who has written a great book. This is his third book written within his field of specialisation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5XDs2v1tbU “An eye-opening rethinking of nineteenth-century American history that reveals the interdependence of the Northern industrial economy and Southern slave labor. The industrializing North and the agricultural South—that’s how we have been taught to think about the United States in the early nineteenth century” (https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/P/bo237040605.html) This is history that gets much closer to the subject than most historical research texts. It is tactile enough that you feel that it rubs up against real flesh. Check out the fabric book cover if you get the chance. Work, manual labour is something integral to human life, I think, although for many of us it is a thing of the past. If, however, you do ever find yourself in the fields, working on a farm or at some such labour spare a moment or two for the enslaved worker. He or she who had little control over their sartorial choices. Think and feel on the relationship between workers, plantation owners, and the merchants and manufacturers who supplied them with their necessary plantation goods. These days most clothing is made in China or India and attracts scant attention from the wearer. There are human beings at every juncture, I would remind us, in the processes that create and transport garments across the globe. In the meantime, I will trudge over another field in my dungarees and hi viz wear hoping that my tired flesh will not rub too much in the wrong places on these hot days. THE WAY AMERICA WAS
By Andrew Bacevich
Compare the America that welcomed young Donald Trump into the world in 1946 with the country that, some 70 years later, elected him president. As the post-World War II era was beginning, three large facts — so immense that they were simply taken for granted — defined America.
First, the United States made everything and made more of it than anyone else. In postwar America, wealth derived in large measure from the manufacture of stuff: steel, automobiles, refrigerators, shoes, socks, blouses, baseballs, you name it. “Made in the USA” was more than just a slogan. With so much of the industrialized world in ruins, the American economy dominated and defined everyday economic reality globally.
Second, back then while the mighty engine of industrial capitalism was generating impressive riches, it was also distributing the benefits on a relatively equitable basis. Postwar America was the emblematic middle-class country, the closest approximation to a genuinely classless and democratic society the world had ever seen.
Third, having had their fill of fighting from 1941 to 1945, Americans had a genuine aversion to war. They may not have been a peace-loving people, but they knew enough about war to see it as a great evil. Avoiding its further occurrence, if at all possible, was a priority, although one not fully shared by the new national security establishment just then beginning to flex its muscles in Washington.
Now, by twenty-first-century standards, many, perhaps nearly all, Americans of that era were bigots of one sort or the other. Racism, sexism, and homophobia flourished, lamented by some, promoted by others, tolerated by the vast majority. An anti-communist political hysteria, abetted by cynical politicians, also flourished. Americans worked themselves into a tizzy over the putative threat posed by small numbers of homegrown subversives. And they fouled the air, water, and soil with abandon. Add to this list violence, crime, corruption, sexual angst, and various forms of self-abuse. Taken as a whole, American society, as it existed when Trump was growing up, was anything but perfect. Yet, for all that, postwar Americans were the envy of the world. And they knew it.
By 2016, the U.S. had long since become a deeply unequal society of haves and have-nots. Finance capitalism, the successor to industrial capitalism, was creating immense fortunes without even pretending to distribute the benefits equitably. Politicians still routinely paid tribute to the Great American Middle Class. Yet the hallmarks of postwar middle-class life — a steady job, a paycheck adequate to support a family, the prospect of a pension — were rapidly disappearing. While Americans still enjoyed freedom of a sort, many of them lacked security. By 2016, Americans had also come to accept war as normal.

Hanes
It’s interesting to note that Hanes, a popular American brand, started as a socks manufacturer. Founded in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1901 by two brothers named John Wesley and Pleasant Henderson Hanes, the company has since become an iconic brand in the United States. The company’s early focus on socks proved a wise choice, as it quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality and…

Shapewear is not about hiding defects for millennials and Gen-Z shoppers; rather, it is seen as apparel that improves rather than alters one's appearance. As a result, Gen Z-focused manufacturers like Honeylove have gained a wider audience by avoiding the term "shapewear" and instead of offering "sculptwear" in a variety of sensual styles with flattering elements that women want to flaunt in public.
Most of these companies also have enormous communities - Shapermint, for example, has four million members – who are encouraged to share their photos using shapewear across various social media platforms. Skims' inclusive strategy, which includes varied ad campaigns and a wide assortment of items in all shapes and colors, has also made it popular with millennials. They have one of the broadest size ranges (XXS to 4X) and a wide selection of skin tones to accommodate people of all ethnicities.
Women nowadays expect work-life flexibility intimates that may keep their bodies in tip-top form and make them appear attractive. Many firms are examining this as a customer-centric strategy and expanding their product portfolios to include lighter, firmer, and more practical products for everyday use throughout the year.

Hi there! Long time political roleplayer here! It's really quite simple. Think of it like mock government. A whole bunch of users sit around and debate politics, with a faux-govermnent structure providing a unifying narrative to the debates.
For example, the rp I moderated, the United Parties of Discord (UPoD), was heavily modeled on the US Government. There was a presidency, a bicameral Congress, and a judicial system. Every four weeks equated to a year, and so we would have election seasons where people wrote about their policies, held debates, went on our player-run news channels for interviews, politicked with opposition leaders and undecided individuals, and tried to get the largest number of votes for themself.
Once the votes were tallied, the people voted in would gain access to the relevant channels (i.e. senate debate floor, oval office, Department of the Treasury), and had the ability to write and amend and vote on and veto and pass legislation, depending on their roles. The president could appoint other members to cabinet positions who had to be approved by Congress, and they could bring in staffers, and overall a good chunk of the active users had some roll either within government or the various party/news/activist organizations. All put together and run by the players.
That is just one model, however. I've encountered a number during my time. One of the things that made UPoD unique was that it was entirely based around political parties. Any user could start a political party if they could get 7 total members to agree to a unified platform, at which point they'd get their own channels for inter-party communication. Parties could send 1 person to the House of Representatives per 3 or 4 members they had (varied as the server grew), and the Senate was made up of party leaders. All of the parties could come together into broader coalitions with their own channels, and reacted to the news stories and events created by the mods to give more stakes and tension to the world.
There are others that run around pre-determined states, where each one has its own smaller government and users pick which state to join. Yet others have distinct kingdoms, with users either joining or founding their own kingdoms that can each have internal politics, international relation, wage wars, promote tech, and fracture when drama or succession crises split them. One that I haven't been active in, The Independent Order (TIO), has a dedicated website with a bunch of chatrooms. Each player founds their own nation, with as much lore as they care to give it, and then takes the place of a noble or president on the world stage. Instead of focusing on internal politics, that are entirely user determined (each player basically writes the story line for their own nation's progress), it's all trade negotiations and press releases and soirees.
As for the video, while I haven't watched it yet, the thumbnail hardly surprises me. I have known a lot of real crazies in my time in political RP. I semi-regularly joke that normal people don't get involved in discord faux politics. The amount of dedication and drama, the number of unhinged personalities, everyone constantly doing a social dance they try to get more power and spread their influence over each other... it can be exhausting and exhilarating. People cling to whatever edge they can get.
I've seen elections with more than 20% bots, sock puppets brought in en masse to fluff party membership counts and infiltrate rival parties, all manner of manufactured drama, attempted takeovers from other servers, friendships form and fracture as egos clash. I've dealt with some of the edgiest teen ideologues imaginable, an actively genocidal fascist middle aged mom (she was permabanned), undiagnosed neurodivergent college students with far too much time and emotional investment poured into it (I was one), an honest to god Libertarian candidate running for their party nomination (that was a fun debate), and so much more.
One person creating a network of sock puppets to rig things in his favor sounds pretty par for the course. I know a few people who tried. They just sucked at it.
One day you're working on videos on autoplay and another you watch a 50 minutes videos of how a user faked a democracy for discord political roleplay for 3 years and it's impact on the citizens and neighboring nations
Also the author of a book (related, don't ask) got a cease and desist from the united Nations and proceeded to change the name of it on april's fools
