look, y'all can all gleeful cancel me for this #unpopular opinion if you want, but even IF Nicola wasn't nominated for the comedy section and it was her and Luke head to head in best drama?
I'd still vote for him
because I genuinely and truly think his acting is INCREDIBLE. and I think he's one of the better actors on Bridgerton full stop. I love the nuance he brings to Colin as a character, I love how he so fully embodies him as a character and that Colin has similarities to him, but is fully different at the same time. Colin does not talk like Luke, walk like Luke, even fidget like Luke. He has his own character beats and yes, sometimes parts of Luke bleed into him, such as with the head tilt, but the voice is different, softer, the movements of Colin as a character are distinct to me, he delivers humor well ('you'd already be dead?') and his decisions for Colin as a character are ICONIC (I'm never forgetting that dress adjustment with specific fingers was all him). Colin had a harder go of it than a lot of leads because his story isn't as loud- he doesn't get a lot of big, dramatic moments to have big dramatic acting, and honestly the show didn't give him a lot of screentime in the first place. But when he does have poignant emotional moments? They feel REAL. He isn't given as much time with the audience as other characters are and he doesn't go for the broad strokes with his acting, so sometimes I think he can get lost in some of the louder acting, but that doesn't negate the fact that he's GOOD. He's a good ass actor. He plays Colin like Colin is an actual person.
And for me? For me, that hits home. Even with truncated time on his own season (yeah, I'm still bitter), he delivers every single time. Anger, betrayal, longing, heartache, silly awkward humor, heat- and he does all of those emotions BELIEVABLY. I watched Luke Newton depict Colin falling in love so beautifully and so realistically, I HAVE NO CHOICE but to give him his flowers. Just because he's not as heavy in the hustle as other actors are (please remember this is a neurodivergent actor with anxiety and dyslexia, mental health is important and it's good he took a break ) doesn't mean he's not a fantastic actor. And if you've ever seen his depiction in The Shape of Things? The man is excellent.
I think Bridgerton has a lot of 'big moves' actors. And that's fine. Many people prefer that. But I prefer the nuanced moments and the softer beats of it all, and I think if the camera had allowed us as an audience a longer glimpse into moments with Colin, we'd all be even more floored. I can watch gifs of his scenes over and over and over again and find something new every time.
So y'all can sit there and accuse others of a 'pity vote' but idgaf. Luke Newton is one of the best actors on that show. And I stand by that. Eat me.
#luke newton#bridgerton#look my truly unpopular opinion is that nicola is a good actor but luke is a GREAT actor#yes yes utter blasphemy in bridgerton! le gasp!!!! but i stand by it#just like i believe jb is a good actor but simone is a GREAT actor#just like i think claudia is a great actor and luke t is a good actor#we ALL have our preferences#and i think nicola is great at hustling and she's great at making connections and networking and this is not me at all hating on her#but i just don't think her performance in bridgerton was better if we're talking votes#i think she got more meat to work with in regards to the writing and she essentially played two characters#well and good#but i just think luke delivered a more poignant performance even though he didn't get as much screentime#and i can't stand the people who are out here just immediate 'whoooo nicola what a qween' if she so much as farts in a room#like she's the best ever simply for existing#i think this fandom sometimes forgets there is no polin without colin and there is no season 3 without luke newton#and he dd a tremendous job don't even try to front#she got more press she's more active on social media she engages the fandom more but at the end of the day in MY opinion?#luke delivered the better performance#and THAT'S why i'm voting for him#sorry not sorry#block me if you want

bbc: Some sweet #Silvacre content for your FYP ❤️
#silvacre#suranne jones#rose leslie#vigil#the bbc making a silvacre fan edit was a pleasant surprise :)#i saw the streaming numbers for vigil 2 were very good (understatement)#which makes an s3 at least a possibility#if they can write a story suranne and rose would sign on for#i'm counting on what suranne said that the continuation of the love story is a big part of what brought her back#the series does a good job creating dramatic tension and conflict within a happy relationship that doesn't involve cheating or one dying#if they do a 3rd season i hope that continues#i mean the series started with amy in the worst possible place emotionally and psychologically so surely they wouldn't go there again#s2 with its wlw mlm solidarity/parallel storyline and giving us more insight into amy and how far she's come since s1#on top of all the other things i liked this season (which i enjoyed quite a bit in addition to the ship)#at heart it's very critical of the british government and military/war machine and some reviews seem to have missed that part#anyway i'm pleased as punch that a prestige bbc drama has two women in love at its center and a lead as compelling as amy#and that it's pulling in the numbers even without the submarine and claustrophobia (admittedly a cool premise)#keep making the fanvids bbc social media team we appreciate you#queue

What do proshippers generally believe about shipping real people? Stuff like creator x creator or celebrity x reader?
That it falls under the umbrella of "you should be allowed to write anything you want". Once again, it's not my personal thing. There's no real life pairing I read for, and the whole "blank x reader" is not appealing to me at all.
But I have no problem with people writing that stuff, or knowing it's out there. I saw someone a while back say that it's basically just writing about another character, and I agree with that. No matter how much a creator posts or how open a celebrity seems with their personal life, we're still only seeing a tiny snippet of their lives. We have no clue who they are when the cameras aren't recording because we just don't know them. And whatever someone chooses to write about is mostly stemming from that particular persona that they happen to put on for the world and that's it. It's completely separate from our reality because they're basically just writing about another made up character
The problem I have, and it's what I imagine most proshippers also take issue with, is when people start blurring the lines between fiction and reality. To me, there's a world of difference between posting something on ao3, and speculating on secret relationships in the comments of someone's youtube video. Or between talking about something on tumblr, and tagging the person directly on twitter.
I just don't understand people who condemn rpf and talk about how gross and invasive it is, but think it's funny to tag celebrities on twitter to bring up (what they think is) cringe-worthy fanfic tropes that people have written them into. Or people who print out fanworks to shove into an actor's face at a meet and greet and ask them what they think about it. That's where the lines get crossed, to me.
I think ao3 and tumblr still have an air of mysticism to them. A little secrecy, a little privacy. In the sense that someone in the public eye would have to put in a little work to find this stuff for themselves. They'd have to go to the site and search themselves up to find anything. As opposed to just about anyone in the world being able to force this content in their line of sight with a simple @ on a site like twitter.
So to me the problem isn't that this content exists. The problem is when people don't know how to keep fandom stuff private. Write all the rpf you want but remember at the end of the day these are real people, not your blorbos. You don't know them. It's inappropriate to say these things to them personally (which yes, also includes tagging them on twitter or in the comments of their videos). But it's also inappropriate to run up to them with other people's content just to say "look what these FREAKS wrote about you!!" And I think people either forget or just genuinely don't care about the latter.
#proship#proshippers#pro ship#proshippers please interact#proshipper#proshipping#rpf#real person fiction#asks#anonymous#sip rambles#i know its so much crazier in this day and age than when i was a kid#with social media and stupid stuff like tiktok basically being a requirement of the job it seems#and celebs posting constantly and having a quick way to interact with fans#or content creators whose entire brand exists on social media apps like tiktok#who seem to be posting 24/7 and broadcasting their whole lives#and i know most of those types of creators mostly have younger followers who probably do very easily get sucked into#feeling like they know that person like thats their friend#and i also dont think that type of creator really discourages those feelings bc... they want followers and $$$#but idk just write your fic and read it or dont do either and just leave celebs alone irl please please please

something about this post that merc made bothered me initially and i have figured it out after some thought. when i first saw it on my feed, i legitimately thought it was damage control and i'm not sure if it was their intention (i'm inclined to think that it is after lewis posted on his stories this morning), but whatever their intentions, to me it reads as insincere and trite. it sounds nice in theory like oh we will make the best of what little time we have together, but at the end of the day it's an empty statement. like when i see the sentence 'our journey together started 12 years we couldn't have imagined where it would take us' i would think that were would be some kind of follow up about some of those accomplishments that happened in the past 12 years. instead all we got was 'we are going to give it everything in the next 6 races 💪' like ok?? lol. i would think that they would and should be giving it everything they have whether or not someone has been on their team for 1 year or 12 years.
i am not asking for merc to post an essay about lewis' accomplishments (yet ) but i am asking for some effort to be put in what they are posting about lewis. there has been a lack of effort put into what the team has been posting about lewis specifically in the past 3 years, and i would not be surprised if the next post that they post about his teammate has more thought and effort put into it than the post i'm talking about. it is this discrepancy that we are seeing that is bleeding into the perceptions of the team, and how they have handled things that have happened on track and off. i will say that merc have improved in the past couple months, but it should not have taken 3 years to finally take some initiative. they shouldn't need people to remind and harass them into posting about lewis' accomplishments and milestones. i should not be writing a rant about how i want more than a couple sentences written about lewis' last 6 races at mercedes. they should and need to do better. i would hope that no one would call me unfair or crazy by saying this or criticizing them. but at the end of the day, it is their job and they have failed at their job, and we are seeing the consequences of it now with how badly the relationship between the fans and the team has gotten.
#lewis hamilton#this kind of goes in hand with the talk about the whole conspiracy theory thing i suppose. i think people would not be so quick to believe#it if things were handled better on the social media/marketing/PR side in the past couple years#no matter how much damage control merc try to do it won't change anyone's minds about what they believe wrt lewis' treatment at merc#the window of time they had to do so is already long gone#but even if it's too late i still think they need to and should do a better job w what they're posting. hopefully i won't have to write#another essay in the future about their send off to lewis but i'm not very optimistic unfortunately

How do you feel about the increase in really weird NSFW ads on here (advertising panels that look like sexual encounters, and AI art apps that pride themselves on porn) but will take down NSFW posts from their users, even if it isn't technically sexual.
i hate all social media and it's consistent prioritising the advertisers over the users and the internet simply was a better place before capitalism sunk its hooks into it
#i could write essays about how capitalism ruined the internet.#i was actually talking to someone earlier today about how youtube was kind of effectively ruined by monetisation.#and they were raised in the soviet union and we had a bit of a talk about how art was better because it wasn't for profit.#the people who made art made it because they wanted to do it and because they loved it.#she said that communism was terrible for every aspect of life for her. people's lives under communism wasn't pretty.#but the art was better. and i feel like it's true for the internet – it was better when it was a free-for-all.#the companies didn't know how to exploit it yet and turn it into a neverending profit-driven hellscape.#people created content because they wanted to. because they wanted to make something silly to make people laugh.#not for profit. not for gain. not for numbers. not to further their career.#i miss the days of newgrounds and youtube before monetisation.#capitalism has soiled everything that's joyful and good in this world.#people should be able to share whatever they want.#people should be able to tell any story they want without the fear of being silenced by advertisers.#that's what made the internet so beautiful before. anyone could do anything and we all had equal footing.#but now we're victims of the algorithm. and it makes me sick.#i'm quitting my job in social media. i'm quitting it. it makes me too depressed. i have an existential crisis every freaking day.#every day i wake up and say "ah. this is the fucking hell we live in#i'm so sorry i feel so passionate about this.#social media is a black hole and it is actively destroying humanity. forget ai. social media is what's doing it.#i miss how beautiful the internet used to be. it should've been a tool for good. but it's corrupt and evil now.#sci speaks

just a few little bits from the past few days
#both the word count screenshots are from the same day - just different sections of the text. so that was like 4000 words in#one DAY.. huzzah!! (< making up for the fact that I did 0 words the 3 days before that lol.. so its not actually an accomplishment ghjjh)#In renpy I think you can have multiple separate texty cody whatever documents and still jump between them so long as they;re#labeled properly. Rather than like... having one extremely long 60.000 line file where in some places youre in a menu within a menu#within a menu within a menu within a menu within a menu within a menu jhbhj#But that was the way I started doing it lke 5 years ago when I actually made the base of everything so I feel like it'd be too much#work to change it all that dramatically now. But that means I cant just get the word count for the whole document I just have#to jump around to the few sections I worked on and highlight them to get the word count for only that portion#.. the one tiny fraction of the whole monster text wall. Though it is of course spaced out and organized into#clearly labeled sections within that because otherwise I have trouble discerning text on a screen. still.#Resuming a project that's been basically abandoned for 4-5 ish years is just always finding weird stuff like.. why did I do this that way..#why did I write that... why did I organize that in this manner... what the hell am I referencing in this note... etc. lol#Anyway... also......................cat with plum on his head.#everyone point and laugh at mr. plum head boy..!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:3c#I've been obsessed with Calico Critters' social media presence from afar (like how I mentioned one of my possible dream jobs would#be to be the person that sets the scenes and arranges all the toy animals at a tiny little table and etc. to take the type of pictures they#post on their facebook page and stuff) and I see all their photos of them posing the rabbits as if they're in a swimming pool#or on a nature hike or etc. etc. BUT I have never really seen them in person. Recently I was at a store (in a KN95 mask and not staying#very long still of course. wastewater covid levels are still high where I live (and most of the US truly)) and it just crossed my mind#to actually go to the toy section and see if I could find any....wow.... Its like meeting a celebrity.. the Latte Cats....#Of course I didnt buy them because they're like... very expensive?? like $25 - $40 just for one little pack of a few critters like#what is shown. but.... I still got to see them................ my beloved.. I want their outfits... T o T#Oh and then lastly just a pot of purple clover looking things. I just think theyre neat lol#photo diary

I know you’re not really online right now but i just wanted to let you know that i really appreciate you and hope everything is getting better for you because you really are great and deserve good things <3
I've been holding onto this for a rainy day <3 This was so incredibly sweet to get and I'm so grateful that you sent it!!
Truth be told, I am stuck in a perpetual mental waiting room right now and I hate it! I have basically told myself, "When I get a job, I'll start getting my life back together again," but it's been two months since I put in my first application and I'm still jobless, so the hell is persisting and I just don't have the spoons to do whatever I can to make ends meet while also socializing, being on Tumblr, having an active blog, all of that.
So that being said, many apologies to everyone I've pulled away from while trying to figure shit out. I hate it and I hope that I'll find the spoons soon to stop being so isolated because I miss you all very much. I hope the fic updates have been some consolation, at least haha
#the good thing about stepping back from social media is that i have room to write nonstop and that feels good at least#still would prefer to get a job please though#my ramblings

people really will say shit like 'the fic i found hasn't updated in a whole month so i think its been abandoned which is a shame, i wanted to read more' like where do you even get the nerve
#this definitely isnt abt my fic dw#this is me seeing other people start talking about fics in past tense if they havent updated in a little while#as if fic writers are your content creators that are writing for you and need to do it every day to keep the algorithm happy#ao3 doesnt have an algorithm and tiktok and other social media really really does rot your brain#like its a very specific level of anger that arises in me when i see people demanding shit for free constantly from random strangers#just because you liked something they made you think your entitled to tell thrm what to do? to demand more?#to tell them what to invest their time in when most of them have full jobs??#theres not many things in life that get that deep anger from me but people like that really do#shark talks#l#for me its usually when i post a comic and some idiot is like 'part two?' in the replies immedietly its like. u didnt even reblog#or say you liked it. its a standalone comic what fuckin part 2 do you even want?#you dont even know youre just so used to demanding things like a child that you do it automatically

Being a receptionist is boring, but it has its perks. It’s safe, for one, and the civilian can watch the drama of whatever the hero and villain are fighting over from the comfort of an ergonomic desk chair. Their desk is tucked nicely into a corner near the back of the entrance hall, just in case the front of the building comes flying off for any reason.
It’s been a calm day outside, much to the civilian’s relief and boredom. It has been for the past week, actually. People trail in and out, not in any hurry, and the civilian idly pings them into the building or, god forbid, has to make a phone call for one of them.
They’re already well into the swing of things when the nth person of the day approaches the desk. The civilian can see them from out of the corner of their eye from where they’re staring at their computer screen. There’s a second of silence—no telltale slap of ID card on wood—until the person on the other side clears their throat expectantly.
The civilian glances up from their screen, only to do a double take. This guy isn’t from around here. He’s dressed in a smart suit and tie like everyone else, but his sense of smart seems to be the complete opposite of what this company considers smart. He graces them with a polite smile, a rarity that you learn to not expect as a receptionist.
“Good morning, [Civilian],” he opens kindly, before glancing at the watch hugging his wrist “or good afternoon, as of two minutes ago.”
The bland customer service line they were going to grace him with dies on their tongue. “Wh– How do you know my name?”
That smile again. “I was hoping to speak with you somewhere private.”
“You’re not getting me to secondary location,” the civilian snaps back immediately.
“I have some affairs the agency thinks you might have an interest in.”
That gives the civilian pause. “The… heroes agency?”
“Hey, man,” someone says from behind the man, “You’re holding up the line.”
The agency man ignores her. “Can we speak privately?”
“No.” The civilian folds their arms, sinking down in their seat for emphasis. “You can tell everyone here why you know my name, stalker.”
The man glances at the slowly growing, irritable queue behind him before leaning over the desk slightly and lowering his voice. “The agency’s in need of new heroes.”
“That doesn’t answer… any of my questions.”
Another glance over his shoulder at the first woman scowling at him. “We have files on everyone in this city. We need new heroes, so we’re finding the most suited options from the civilians here. You can be a hero, [Civilian].”
“And… I fit this heroic profile?”
The man smiles again, brighter. “You do. A perfect match, in fact.”
The civilian frowns confusedly, looking at their hands like they hold answers. “I thought heroes had, like, powers.”
“We can talk about that later.”
The civilian glances back up at him. If he’s lying, he’s very good at hiding it. “Okay. Move over so these people can get in.”
The man positively beams as he steps aside. The woman behind him huffs with a quiet “finally” and slams his ID card down with comfortable familiarity.
It takes ten minutes to get the line of antsy workers into the building. The man waits, impossibly patient, apologising here and there as people pass. He lets the civilian get everyone in before returning to his spot at the desk. “[Civilian]?”
They huff as they get to their feet, scribbling a quick note and shoving it on the front of the desk where people can see it before letting the barriers open. They step around the desk, giving the man a suspicious once over. “If you’re fucking with me I’ll kill you.”
The man laughs, the sound short and genuine. “I’ve no doubt. Let’s get you to the agency.”
One of the workers watches as the two of them wander back out onto the street. The heroes are coming up short. They’re employing civilians to fill in for a job meant for people with superpowers.
The villain couldn’t have turned up to their day job at a better time.
They pull their phone out as they continue into the building. Best not be late. The heroes are at their weakest, they type into a text littered with hasty spelling errors. Prepare to infiltrate the agency. We’re going in tonight.

Screaming crying scratching at the walls of my enclosure because it’s now somehow necessary to not just use social media but excel at it to even be considered for any of my dreams jobs??!?! Since when do I need 30k followers to be good at something other than a popularity contest?? Why does follower count matter to how good of an artist, writer, or general creator I am? I shouldn’t be required to know how to market and pander to the masses when all I want to do is create art! I just want to make things! I don’t care about selling them to the most people ever! I don’t care about notoriety! I’m a creator! I. JUST. WANT. TO. CREATE!!!
#sorry for the rant#it just makes me so mad that there is no more creation without gratuitous self marketing#I see so many posts from artists (tattoo artists especially) where they’re talking about not getting hired until they have 30k+ followers#this is insane!!! thousands of followers from all over will not directly contribute to your business outside of marketing#which should be the studios burden. not the artists#you want customers for your shop? Pay for an ad#it’s not your artists job to serve as your main source of marketing#the same with writing books#it used to be you turned in your manuscript- got chosen- and the publishers would market it for you#now it’s all about clout#your following#publishers are actually choosing books based on follower count bc they want a guaranteed sell#they’ll choose these books in favor of actual well written pieces bc the author had no following#it’s disgusting#the introduction of social media to the artistic process was insidious and cruel#you think this isn’t negatively affecting the quality of todays literature?#go look at the sun and it’s shade#horribly written book#no clear world building or any real sense of plot or genuine storytelling#but does it have thousands of sales! the author had thousands of followers on booktok#so of course it’s good!#right?#RIGHT?!?!
