One dichotomy that I find intensely interesting is the divide between fans and internal transfer strategies at top football clubs.
At a base level, the views and desires of both are aligned in the sense that every top club wants big names, both homegrown and international. Signing a big name for a large amount is obviously massive and gets people talking.
Those are important signings to make as they are often made to vastly improve positions where there may be a deficit in players or the need for a particular skillset, like Arsenal signing Mesut Ozil, for example. An expensive, proven player is a necessity at times because they simply don't have an alternative to bring the team on at that time.
What's interesting is that there comes a point when clubs don't need to sign headline players at the same rate, like Liverpool after the 2018 summer transfer window, or Arsenal currently.
It's almost a post-scarcity situation where you've got your line-up settled but don't need to go and look for other top players. Obviously, both teams weren't perfect and needed and need transfers to round out the team, but by and large, the majority of transfer business could be focussed on players with potential as opposed to someone who would need to hit the ground running.
But at the same time, fans want those big names to be signed. So the desires diverge. Internally, there may not be as much of an impetus at Arsenal to buy a massive name because, all things considered, things are going well, and they've got a solid squad that covers what's needed, so they'd be looking at good squad players or more depth in positions. But the fans, at the time of writing, want a headline striker, Victor Gyokeres or Alexander Isak are names I've seen bandied about by Arsenal fans.
So there comes an impasse. The options and goalscorers Arsenal have already are all solid. Maybe some tweaks are necessary, but overall, they have a squad that is geared to play a particular way, though there's obviously tactical leeway.
But the desire for a 20 goal a season player still permeates discussion, a transfer decision that, looking at the options, doesn't appear to be that good a selection.
Ideally, what Arsenal need would be for either Gabriel Jesus to hit a patch of good form over an extended period, i.e., racking up a lot of goal contributions, or to sign a player who registers a lot of goal contributions, of which someone like Gyokeres only really hits the goals scored part of that rather than a mix of goals and assists.
Because Arsenal prefer to play possession based football, buying a poacher or more classic number 9 is risky because it leaves a gap in the number of players available for build-up play. Obviously, it's worked for Manchester City, but when there hasn't been a collection of high-quality players to make up the deficit of Haaland being primarily used as a goalscorer, their system has fallen apart this season.
In short, two of the main names currently suggested both have something that may cause Arsenal to roll the dice on developing a player rather than parachuting one in. Isak will have a prohibitive transfer fee, and Gyokeres doesn't look to be a player who's well-rounded enough to be worth signing, given the way Arsenal want to play in possession.
It's going to be interesting to see how it pans out.

Bonucci spoke in the last hours with Dzeko, who pushing to convince him to join Fenerbahce, which want to sign the former Juve’s centre-back. Leo reflecting because Fener’s bid is important, but he’d prefer to sign for a Serie A’s club to try to return in Italy National Team.

As I expected. Who knows with journalism these days how true this is, but it at least seems like INEOS sees what many of us see: we’ve changed managers plenty of times, it’s time to actually complete a rebuild and that starts with overhauling the squad. How many Arsenal players from before Arteta took over are left, and look at what they’re doing now. He’s moved three of his captains on — Aubameyang, Lacazette and Xhaka — among other players. He might move a couple more on this summer if the whispers are true.
People think I’m being emotional about Ten Hag; I’m not, I’m as ruthless as I’ve ever been. But that energy has already been directed at a number of United managers over the last 11 years. It’s past time to point the finger at someone else and they don’t sit in the manager’s chair on match days.

thing is if leo wasn't the type of person he was to make this questionable decision I wouldn't love him so much. like he's not chosen any European club bc he loves Barca too much, u could see psg was just for wc training and at the end of the day he's a father & husband who wants what's best for his kids and not to ferry them around everywhere and that's what I love about him. he sacrificed himself so Barca players wouldn't be sold, he is finishing his European on top of the world and I'll always support him
