Newcastle hanging on after Yates scores Forest’s third – latest

Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of Newcastle United vs Nottingham Forest from the Premier League as Eddie Howe’s men look to close the gap in the race for Champions League football. 

Newcastle are currently sat in eighth but would climb up to fifth and go within three points of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who are in third, with victory this afternoon. The hosts would also go level on points with Manchester City in fourth ahead of the champions’ clash with leaders Liverpool later on this afternoon.  

Meanwhile, a win for Forest would see them go seven points clear of Bournemouth and Chelsea in fifth and sixth, respectively, and would take them just three points shy of Arsenal after their title hopes were dealt a blow with defeat against West Ham United on Saturday.

I feel so sad for the people who watch Ted Lasso and only care about the moments that happen on the field or are directly related to soccer. This show has some of the most beautiful character development I’ve ever seen and I think it an absolute gift to be able to watch these people grow. To think of it as just a funny show about soccer does it and oneself a disservice.

The ESPN+ commentators were awful and we spent a lot of the first half talking about them; as my brother noted, 'I don't even care that they are super negative about us the whole game, it is that they are just wrong about it most of the time.'

Then the second half happened:

Commentators misidentify Jody Morris as David Beckham, 48th minute:

Me: WOW, that is not David Beckham with JT there. Pretty sure that was Jody Morris! Brother: That is not David Beckham. Me: Yeah, that was Jody Morris, who's like the opposite of David Beckham. Why the hell would Beckham come to Chelsea v. Leicester?! Brother: OK, I can forgive them being wrong about Chelsea, but to not recognize David Beckham is crazy.

Axel Disasi scores an own goal, 51st minute:

Me: That error was like mixing up David Beckham and Jody Morris.

56th minute:

Brother: The problem with this [commentator] is he refuses to admit he was wrong on anything. I hope he keeps talking about how David Beckham is here.

20 minutes later, the commentators again say that David Beckham is here:

Me: OH MY GOD THEY JUST DOUBLED DOWN ON THE DAVID BECKHAM THING. Brother: DAVID BECKHAM AGAIN? DOUBLING DOWN? Me: Ha ha, I literally just said the same thing to you. They should just go all in and say everyone is David Beckham now.
