Prompts for AI-less Whumptober 2024
As promised, we're bringing you the official prompt list of AI-less Whumptober 2024 today!
We have 31 days of excellent whump prompts, with three prompts per day to pick from, fun themes, and 10 alt prompts to play around with. We hope you enjoy! Additional info + plain text versions of the prompts can be found under the cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
FAQ and Rules
What sort of content can I create for this event?
You can create whatever you want (fic, art, edits, etc). Any fandom is allowed, as well as OC stuff. NSFW is allowed, but please tag your content accordingly! The only thing not allowed is AI-generated content.
Do I need to make 31 things to participate?
Oh heavens no! You can make as much or as little content as you like, skip days when desired, or combine prompts (so for example, write something that covers a prompt from day 1, 2, AND 3). You don't have to do the days in order either, go wild! To be considered a 'completionist', you only have to make sure that at the end of the month, you've covered 31 prompts from 31 different days, but whether you do that in 31 works or just 1 is up to you.
What are these alts about?
If none of the three prompts of a particular day are your cup of tea, you can swap them out for an alt prompt of your choice.
What are these themes about?
Just a little bit of extra fun for the mods. Like last year, we'll be handing out various badges for people participating in the event. A full list can be found here, perhaps there is a special badge or two for people who can't be completionists but who do manage to finish every single day of a specific theme ;)
How do I tag and is there an AO3 collection?
It suffices to tag your work with #ailesswhumptober for us to see and reblog it! Please also tag nsfw, since we'll be using that tag too. Tagging the day is optional but does help the mods along.
There is an AO3 collection to add your fics to here.
That should be all. If you have any additional questions, check our pinned or hit us up in the ask box. Or join our discord maybe, whumping can be a great group activity!

The Small Moments
its the small moments in whump for me, those glimpses right before and after your character loses it all in no chronological order
-- the hitched breath after a blow to the face
-- the sound of footsteps in the hallway, and the flinching when the door opens
-- the soft sound, more animal than human, when whumpee pulls a blood-drenched hand away from their side
-- caretaker leaning over whumpee, whispering assurances that they cant keep
-- when the curses catch in whumpee's throat and all they can manage is a strangled, don't...please
-- when whumpee stumbles and clings to the doorway. better when they look up and meet caretaker's eyes. The slow, dreaded realization. caretaker lunges forward, but not in time to catch whumpee
-- when whumpee's head hits the tiles with a thud
-- the panic they swallow down when they see Whumper for the first time
-- the added details of used knives, splattered with dried blood, faded from crimson to rusty brown
-- the dead, hollowed-out light in whumpee's eyes after they're rescued
-- coughing that turns into whumpee doubling over, and desperately, so desperately trying to hide the fact they coughed up blood
-- a still hand, palm up on the floor, and no semblance of consciousness. The pool of blood around them is growing
-- caretaker pausing-- oh. oh god-- when they rush through the door to rescue whumpee, their eyes widening and stomach dropping, before cutting whumpee down from their restraints
-- Whumper tracing whumpee's jaw with the tip of their finger. "Now, isn't this nice."
-- When Whumper kicks Whumpee when they're already down and all Whumpee can manage is a small curse.
-- When Whumper yanks Whumpee's head up by their hair and Whumpee has to squint because of the sudden, sharp light
-- whumpee clutching a sink for a long moment before turning on the faucet and splashing water in their face to hide the fact they've been crying
anyway.
this.

Sleeping <3
The way they sleep can tell a lot about a whumpee
-Whumpees who don't sleep. Maybe they're plagued by terrible nightmares and flat out refuse to sleep until they physically can't stay awake anymore, and that sleep never lasts long before they wake up with night terrors. Maybe caretaker ends up slipping something into their drink - they feel guilty but they're getting so worried, it's dangerous to go so long on so little sleep.
-Or maybe whumpee just can't sleep at all. Maybe whenever they close their eyes they see whumpers face. Maybe it's a medical thing. But no matter what they do they just. Cannot. Sleep.
-Conversely, whumpees who sleep too much. Life's easier, when you're asleep; you don't have to deal with any bad feelings or memories, you don't have to face the world or look yourself in the mirror. Being asleep is the only time they feel some peace.
Now let's talk positions!
-Whumpees used to being chained to a table sleeping that way even once free, flat on their back with limbs sprawled out.
-Whumpees who sleep tightly curled up, legs drawn up and arms wrapped around their chest as if hugging themselves.
-Whumpees who just stay poker still the entire time. They were forbidden from moving an inch, maybe even wore electric bands that sent a shock whenever they detected movement, and now even in sleep they lie perfectly still.

do you perhaps have any prompts for when the living weapon is rescued and is just… so fucking awkward and doesn’t even notice. like no social cues existent (same), no sense of manners, social etiquette or politeness. they dont really talk unless spoken to first, but when they do speak they have absolutely no filter. this guy could murder everyone in the room but would not survive a high school lunch table
Oh hell yeah this is my cup of tea and my favorite brand.
Living weapon after they are rescued:
["long as I can remember" vibes]
Sorry it took me this long to answer! I was going through some stuff. I wanted to make sure i could give you quality content 👌 accidentally made too many though.
Eating as fast as possible and super messy. Everyone is just trying to talk and slowly stops as whumpee slurps their food down.
"are you ok whumpee?" "Yes, sorry, so sorry, I'm done. What do you need from me?"
Just casually leaning onto the table in a new tank top, and everyone suddenly notices the evenly-spaced scars down each shoulder. Clearly intentional. Everyone looks horrified at whumpee.
"Oh. I'm sorry. I forgot to cover, um," whumpee backing away flushing and covering their shoulders because they think their scars are gross.
Whumpee biting off their nails, picking their nose, other stuff they got used to doing whenever they had a chance because there was rarely any access to basic hygiene.
Or, whumpee coming in scrubbed and smelling like 5 different soaps because even the slightest smell of body odor triggers them
Whumpee sitting down stiffly, then stiffly mimicking others' relaxed posture when they see people staring. "Whumpee, it's ok, you can relax." "I am relaxed, I'm doing the relaxing thing. I've got this leg on the other leg just like you, what am I doing wrong?!" (Panicking that they're not following protocol!)
Right after being rescued, insisting that they're fine, because any touch feels like an attack.
Getting angry/defensive/paranoid when people show concern. They're not familiar with it and don't trust it at all.
Defending their abusers, forced laughter, panic in their eyes. "It was just a few lashes. Technically they were being merciful." "For refusing to kill a child!"
"I don't really have feelings, it's ok."
"Your OWN PEOPLE tortured you?" "No, torture is different, I've been tortured actually, it's not as scary, hah, uh," whumpee's voice falters as they freeze, that familiar sense of dread trickling down their spine as they flash back.
"I'm aware that you are saying you're not going to hurt me, yes. I understand completely. The concept." Whumpee smiles stiffly. "But do you believe me?" Caretaker pushes. Whumpee swallows, still smiling. "If that's what you want me to do."
When they hold their breath as they sit down in a comfortable chair for the first time in years.
This is going to have a pt 2 because it's really long!

a trope I love and don’t see nearly enough: when a battle/fight breaks out but nobody bothers to free the prisoner.
whumpee is just stuck chained up or tied down while chaos erupts around them. perhaps dangling from the ceiling, or locked to the floor on their knees, all while getting grazed with arrows or bullets that just barely miss them. or maybe they don’t miss.
whumpee getting pummeled into when one assailant’s body slams another. someone else’s blood spattering whumpee’s face when one stabs another.
the captivity has left them so weak. maybe they’re barely conscious of the commotion around them, dazed eyes flitting over flying fists and spattered blood.
do they cry out for help? is there anyone they can trust here? do they dare? does anyone care? can anyone even hear them over all the commotion?
are their friends trying to rescue them? or is it just another team who wants whumpee to themselves? if their friends are trying to save them, whumpee is now they’re just stuck watching their friends get hurt by whumper’s goons and being unable to do anything about it but cry out to them and tell them they’re sorry. they shouldn’t have come. they’re so sorry.
terrified whumpee yanking at the restraints and begging their friends to turn back. that it’s not worth it. to leave them here and surrender, retreat, to escape while they can before they end up just like whumpee, chained up and useless and utterly helpless to whumpers whims.
I like the idea of a whumpee panicking when they see their friends coming to rescue them. they know there’s no chance they’d win, not against whumper. that was the only solace whumpee had, that at least their loved ones were safe, and now they’re watching that slip away with every team member captured before their eyes.
the guilt, the panic, the helplessness, I love it all.

"Whumpee can I see your teddy", Caretaker reached out for it, "it needs to be cleaned, I'll give it right back when it's done."
"No, no please", Whumpee squeezed it tighter, and shook their head.
"I'm sorry Whumpee, but you were very sick last week. I'm pretty sure you have puked on it", Caretaker knelt down beside Whumpee, "I know it's your comfort item, but how about we find something else for a few hours while I take care of Teddy."
"Nuh-uh", Whumpee squirmed away.
"Whumpee, do you want to help me clean it, or we could make cookies while Teddy gets washed", Caretaker rubbed Whumpee's back comfortingly, "I promise Teddy will come right back to you."
A friend of Caretaker's was listening in.
"If I were you I'd take it from them, they're to old to be acting like that. Honestly to old to have a stuffed toy", the friend frowned.
Caretaker watched Whumpee's eyes squeeze shut as tears streamed down their face.
"I think you need to stop freaken talking", Caretaker growled at their friend, "you have no idea what is going on here. Just mind your business, and let me do my job."
Finally, after a few more tears and bartering Caretaker was given Teddy.
Caretaker had promised to make Teddy smell really good, and Whumpee now walked around the house wrapped in giant soft blanket.
Lastly, Caretaker handed Whumpee a bowl of ice cream.
"I still think it would have been easier to take it away, and let them get over it", the friend frowned as Whumpee walked past with the ice cream.
Whumpee stopped and looked at Caretaker.
"Don't worry about them, go eat your ice cream. I started a movie for you", Caretaker slapped their friend in the back of the head.
"Oww", the friend complained.
"Are you dumb?", Caretaker gritted their teeth.
"No, I just...", the friend started.
"Whumpee came here with that toy. The person who hurt them gave it to them to signify that they were done hurting Whumpee", Caretaker sighed, "if they had the teddy bear, they wouldn't be hurt. They were safe. If it was pulled out of their hands, torture was starting. It wouldn't end until the toy was given back to them."
"Do you see what kind of issues could have happened if I just pulled that away from them. What kind of trauma response I would have to deal with for the next several hours", Caretaker looked at the friend, "it does take more time, I'm aware of that. I had to have some losses to get the win of getting that from them."
"You told them it needed to be cleaned and it had puke on it", the friend pointed out, "you knew what was best, and they didn't listen to you."
"You should have seen how bad it was when it first came here", Caretaker sighed, "covered in blood, and probably several other body fluids. It was dirty and absolutely disgusting. They still clung to it. To them, it means safety. It's familiar to them."
The friend still frowned.
"You smoke right? Do you have your box and lighter?", Caretaker stood.
"Feeling like a smoke Caretaker?", the friend chuckled as they pulled out the box and lighter.
Caretaker quickly grabbed the box and lighter and walked away.
The friend followed, "where are you going? You don't smoke."
"I know, just proving a point", Caretaker went into his office and closed the door behind him.
The door was locked before the friend could grab the door knob.
The friend gulped when he heard the heavy safe door slam shut. Caretaker came out soon after.
"Where's my smokes", the friend went into the office and pulled on the safe door, "Caretaker?"
"I figured I knew what was best, so I took them away. You won't like it for a little while, but I'm sure you'll get over it", Caretaker grinned as their friend tried to guess the combination, "you're acting like a child you know, aren't you to old to have a crutch like cigarettes."
"Okay, okay, you've made your point. I'm sorry", the friend frowned, "can I have my smokes back now?"
Caretaker grinned as he pulled the cigarettes and lighter from his back pocket.
"That's cold", the friend frowned as they grabbed their things back."
"What's cold is telling a trauma survivor, one who has been through so much more than what we will ever know about, that they need to grow up", Caretaker frowned, "have some sympathy."
Caretaker heard the timer for the teddy's wash go off.
"You could have easily went out and bought another pack and lighter. You would have soon forgotten I had those", Caretaker sighed, "Whumpee doesn't get that luxury."
Whumpee rounded the corner, "is Teddy done?"
"Not quite Whumpee, I just need to dry him", Caretaker held up a few scent capsules, "which smell do you like?"
Whumpee smelt every capsule twice until they picked one.
"Good choice Whumpee", Caretaker smiled, "I promise thirty minutes you will have Teddy back."
Whumpee nodded and sat beside the dryer.
"Can I wait here?", Whumpee's lip quivered.
"Yes, you can. I'll be in the kitchen if you need me", the friend followed Caretaker.
"So what did we learn here?", Caretaker looked at his friend.
"That I shouldn't judge. And, that you have a harder job than what I realized", the friend sighed.
"I think you owe Whumpee am apology", Caretaker frowned, "that was quite mean of you to act like that when you didn't know the whole story."
"Caretaker?", the friend frowned.
"No, no", Caretaker waved in disgust, "you know I am protective of my patients that stay with me, if you can not make yourself safe to be around, you will not be welcomed in my house when I have patients here."
"Okay, okay", the friend sighed, then turned to walk back to Whumpee.
They rounded the corner in time to see Whumpee wiping away a tear.
Whumpee looked at them nervously.
"I'm sorry for being mean earlier, Caretaker explained the importance of that bear. I'm sorry if I caused you any flashbacks", the friend tried to make a comforting smile.
Whumpee nodded, "thankyou", they whispered.
The dryer dinged, causing Caretaker to quickly walk in.
"Alright let's see", Caretaker opened the dryer.
They carefully pulled Teddy out and handed it to Whumpee, "I made sure to use the gentlest wash and dry cycles."
"Careful Whumpee, we have another hole to patch", Caretaker frowned as they looked into the dryer to see clumps of cotton.
"Another hole?", Caretaker's friend eyed Whumpee.
"Yes Teddy is well loved, they need some patching every once in a while", Caretaker sighed, "Whumpee do you want to fix it now or later."
Whumpee gently cuddled their face into the toy, they took in the warmth and scent.
Whumpee's body shook, "what if... what if there is a time Teddy can't be fixed? What do I do then?"
"We will have to figure something else out then", Caretaker frowned, "I'll try my best to make sure that doesn't happen. Here come help me, you can hold Teddy's hand while I sew."
The next day Caretaker's friend called.
"Hey I have an idea, do you think Whumpee could go to the mall", the friend asked.
"They can, though they are having a hard day, so they will need their wheelchair", Caretaker smiled, "what are you thinking?"
"It's a surprise, can you meet me their with Whumpee", the friend asked.
"Yeah, I can do that. Whumpee probably wouldn't mind getting out, they've been distraught because of Teddy", Caretaker stood, "see you soon."
Caretaker pushed Whumpee through the mall until they found their friend.
"Hey Whumpee", the friend knelt down to eye level with Whumpee and smiled, "Caretaker", they then looked up.
"Hello", Whumpee whispered.
"Whumpee is being extra brave right now. They decided to let Teddy stay at home to rest", Caretaker gently rubbed Whumpee's shoulder.
"That is very brave.... I know that now", the friend smiled and patted Whumpee's leg.
"So we are both curious. What brings us to the mall?", Caretaker smiled.
"I had this thought last night while I was looking at online pictures of my niece and nephew celebrating their birthdays", the friend stood.
"There is a store here where you pick a stuffed toy and they stuff it for you", the friend smiled, "I was hoping you would allow me to buy one for you. You could pick whatever you like. There are even some cute outfits to dress the stuffie in."
"But what about Teddy?", Whumpee whispered.
"This will not replace Teddy at all, but maybe give them a little break", the friend smiled, "you're also trauma bonded to Teddy, maybe you are holding onto a lot of bad memories. Maybe a new stuffie will help you move forward in your healing, and you can make new memories."
"B-but Teddy deserves to heal with me also. They went through everything I went through, then helped me", Whumpee let out a small sob, "I don't want Teddy to be forgotten."
"We will never forget Teddy" Caretaker quickly came around, "I promise Teddy will never be forgotten. Can you take a deep breath for me."
Whumpee nodded and took a shaky breath.
"How about this", Caretaker smiled, "we can set up a place for Teddy. A place of honor. Teddy will be able to watch over you, and you will be able to get them at all times."
"We can even pick out a stuffie for Teddy to cuddle, and they can start healing as well", the friend smiled.
Whumpee thought for a second before nodding, "I-I think Teddy might like that."
"Yeah?", the friend smiled.
Whumpee nodded with a weak smile.
The friend looked up at Caretaker and smiled.
Caretaker smiled back and nodded, "you might have it in you to be a caregiver yourself."
"I don't know about that", the friend started to wall and Caretaker followed pushing the wheelchair with Whumpee, "I don't think I would be able to do what you do. I'm sorry I just now figured that out."
"That's alright", Caretaker winked.
Whumpee shook as they walked toward the different stuffie options the store had.
Caretaker helped hold them up as they looked.
"You said they were having a hard day today... I didn't realize", their friend followed with the wheelchair.
"Yes, Whumpee has good days when they can get around just fine. Days like today, their body just doesn't have enough strength", Caretaker continued supporting Whumpee, "their captors did a lot of bad things to them. Their body had to hold up to a lot of abuse, and it's broken."
Caretaker watched Whumpee, "are you doing alright? Do you want to sit down?"
"I-I think I should", Whumpee wobbled forward, but Caretaker held them up.
"Do you see any you like?", the friend held the chair still while Whumpee sat down.
Whumpee nodded, "uhm, I keep looking at that tan bear. It kind of looks like Teddy."
"It does?" the friend went back to look. They thought about the old bear.
"Well I guess what Teddy used to look like", Whumpee was pushed closer.
"This one?", the friend held it up.
"Yes, but are you sure about this?", Whumpee whispered, "you don't have to."
"No, I would absolutely love to get this for you", the friend smiled as they handed the bear to Whumpee, "I was very mean to you yesterday, and I feel bad that Teddy is falling apart on you. Are you sure this is the one you like though?"
Whumpee looked it over, then nodded, "yes... please."
Whumpee helped push the peddle to stuff the bear, and followed the instructions on the heart.
"Give it a big squeeze to see if you like it", Caretaker smiled.
Whumpee squeezed it tightly.
"How does it feel?", the friend watched.
They both watched as Whumpee began to cry.
"Good", Whumpee whispered, "really good, thankyou so much."
Whumpee didn't pick out any clothes until the friend pulled down a shirt that said °Emotional Support Bear°
Whumpee giggled lightly and then nodded.
Caretaker had just covered Whumpee with a blanket when they heard their phone vibrate.
"How are they doing?", their friend had texted, "did the bear work out?"
Caretaker grinned as they sat down across from Whumpee.
They looked up and watched Whumpee's chest rise and fall. They were deep asleep now. The new bear cuddled tightly in their arms.
They snapped a picture and sent it to their friend.
"I can't tell how much this meant to them", Caretaker wiped a tear away from their eye, "you helped them take a big step forward in their recovery. As their caregiver and your friend, thankyou so much for helping heal them."
"You're welcome, I'm glad I was able to do that for them and for you", the friend replied, "have a good night."
"You too", Caretaker stood and retrieved Teddy.
"Alright my dear friend", Caretaker gently carried Teddy to a shelf Whumpee had agreed on.
This shelf overlooked Whumpee's bed, and they would have easy access if they ever needed extra comfort from Teddy.
Caretaker sat Teddy in a weaved basket chair. They rested Teddy's head on a pillow. Lastly, they pulled out the stuffed toy Whumpee had picked for Teddy, and cuddled the arms around the toy.
"Rest well Teddy, you did a good job protecting them. It's my turn now", Caretaker poked the bears faded nose, "I promise they will heal."
Taglist. As always please let me know if you want to be added or taken off of the list. It's not a problem at all.

we all love our gagged whumpees, but the way im automatically won over is when the tiny process of whumpee being gagged is described in very careful detail.
pushing the tangled hair out of their face so you can slide the straps under it. maybe it's coated with sweat.
if whumpee is defiant, i love seeing how they toss their head back and how you have to force their mouth open. maybe they bite a few times? very annoying for whumper. but shoving their head back towards you, gripping onto their hair and telling them to cut that shit out...ooh, that's fun.
obedient whumpees are just as fun because they'll just open up for whumper. stick that pretty tongue out and remain still as you clip it behind their head. maybe you can even stroke their hair a little. throw in a 'good boy/girl' for good measure 🙏🙏🙏
then theres the look!! i wanna know what they eyes are doing!! are they glaring straight ahead to avoid looking at whumper, or shooting daggers at them anyway? do they stare at the ground? or is it all listless if they've done this many times before?
and when you're done... i wanna know the result. what kind of gag is it (personally im a sucker for open-mouth) and how does it make em look? are they drooling already? what does whumper have to say about this?
i dont care how unnecessarily long you think you made your gagging scene, we're whump writers we're all here to indulge!! give your whumpee's mouths some love 🫶🫶

Whumpee that deceives Whumper
They rack their brain to memorize every little movement, every indicator of Whumper's mood, every pattern. At some point, they even learn to predict Whumper.
They know what Whumper likes to see. They know what they want within a few minutes, what's going to happen to them. They're powerless to stop it.
Sometimes Whumper wants them to silently cry on the floor, so they do. It would be foolish not to conserve energy while they can.
Sometimes Whumper is already in a bad mood. They probe, both because the knowledge is invaluable and because then Whumper will take it out on them.
Whumpee has a little internal guide to how to take punishments. Begin as defiant, but still shake. Look like they're trying to conceal their fear. Gradually break. It starts off as a yelp or sob or whimper followed by an immediate insult, then Whumpee goes quiet for a bit until it's “too much,” begging quietly. And then it's as if a dam has been broken, frantically pleading for mercy, for a reprieve. They look at Whumper with wide, teary eyes, and both their true self and their facade just want it to stop.
Their cries turn quiet as their energy runs out, until they can't bear to look at anything. Their flinch at Whumper's hand on their chin doesn't need to be faked. Their distress is real, and they let themselves whimper. Whumper likes displays of exhausted weakness, it makes them feel as if they've won.
They lean into the little coos and pets Whumper gives after, trying not to gag. Alarms of panic ring through their head, and they acknowledge them.
It would be easier to lose themselves in the comfort after the torture. It would be so much easier to become a shell of a person. They already act like one. Why can't they give up?
The emotional exhaustion after they've been left alone. The dark quiet. Their steadying breath. The scent of both blood and anticeptic. The locked door. The pain.
They can escape once Whumper deems them broken enough to let out unsupervised. It's just a matter of time, just a matter of maintaining this act. A matter of trust from a sadistic torturer that keeps Whumpee in a basement for no reason other than their own pleasure.
They have to keep going.

Whump prompt #68
"You know, it's so good that we've spent all this time together," Whumper purred, straddling Whumpee's waist, hands around their throat, gradually leaning more weight on them, squeezing harder.
"We know all about each other," he said, looking deep into their widening eyes. "I know precisely what you can handle, see when you are about to pass out. You know when I will stop. You know I like seeing your squirm, feeling you squirm under my hands, seeing you come back from that brink, wheezing and gasping for the air that I allow you to have. You know I won't kill you by choking the life out of you."
A sly sideglance to Caretaker, who kept struggling harder against his bonds, muffled screams turning more and more desperate with every second as Whumpee went redder and more rigid. A smile and he looked back at Whumpee.
"But he doesn't."

i love caretakers who used to be whumpees. a caretaker that’s covered in scars, who screams themself awake at night, who sees the marks on whumpee and has to look away because it’s too familiar.
and nobody else knows. caretaker is so put together, nobody would expect it, but whumpee can tell. they see the fear in caretaker’s eyes when whumpee talks about what whumper did to them. how sometimes they flinch when they’re touched. how they wake up shaking and covered in sweat, reaching out in a panic to shove their blankets off.
still, caretaker tries to be strong for whumpee. they know how it feels to be hurt and they want to be there for them, even though they still haven't gotten over their own trauma.

The long awaited pt2 to the pneumonia/intubation Whump post (this one)...
Caretaker's glad Whumpee's so out of it from all the meds they're on. If they were more aware, they'd likely be terrified.
After all, the equipment that the doctors are pulling over on carts, laying out on the sheets, is enough to make Caretaker feel nauseous- they keep eyeing the metal device the doctor checks over, the one that muted whispers have denoted as the 'laryngoscope'.
They sit beside Whumpee's bed (they're allowed to for the time being, until Whumpee's actually asleep and the real procedure has to begin), holding the hand that hasn't been invaded by a cannula site. A nurse is positioned at Whumpee's other side already pumping them full of drugs that have Whumpee drifting, eyes open but barely there. Caretaker strokes their hair, giving them a wobbly smile as yet another dose of something or other is pushed into Whumpee's cannula.
"I'm right here, whumpee. I'm right here with you, sweetheart. Just try to relax."
The latter message is more for themselves than Whumpee, if they're honest. They're the one with a racing heartbeat- Whumpee's is slower now, as indicated by the dull beep-beep of the monitor they're hooked up to. Their breaths are slower too, so shallow that if they weren't already due to be intubated, Caretaker would be slamming on the emergency button.
"Propofol's going in now." One of the doctors says. Caretaker knows enough to understand that this means sleep, for Whumpee, is imminent.
Sure enough, within seconds of the syringe's plunger being pushed down, a glaze enters Whumpee's eyes, the lids becoming heavy. They open their mouth, tongue darting out to wet chapped lips for a moment as if they want to speak, but Caretaker, unshed tears in their eyes, shushes them gently.
"Hey, just sleep now, alright? Everyone's looking after you. Sweet dreams, Whumpee. Night night."
Whumpee's glassy gaze fixes on Caretaker's, narrowing and narrowing as their eyes drift closer to being closed until...
Out.
Caretaker leans forward, lower lip trembling slightly, and kisses Whumpee on the forehead, just as the doctor steps up behind them.
"Alright, we're gonna get started now. it's probably easier for you to wait outside and-"
"No." Caretaker interjects, tears nearly spilling over. "Sorry, no, I- I need to be here. I won't... I won't get in your way, I promise, I just- I need to be here for them."
And so they remain. They remain when the doctors place the mask over Whumpee's face, murmuring to each other about sats and correct timings. They remain when the principal anaesthesiologist brushes a fingertip below Whumpee's eyelashes, checking for movement and finding none. They remain when the same anesthesiologist stands behind Whumpee's head, removes the mask and tilts Whumpee's chin towards them, gently pulling open their mouth and sliding the laryngoscope in.
The blade slips into place too easily, Caretaker thinks. there's too little resistance. Whumpee should be gagging, thrashing about, screaming for help, but instead they lay unconscious and unmoving as it's driven deep into their throat, pushing their tongue out of the way to give the doctors a clear view of their vocal cords.
"Tube." the anesthesiologist says tersely. That long snaking tube, already lubricated, is placed atop a gloved palm.
Caretaker is tempted to look away as it's inserted, but their eyes are fixed. They watch as it's threaded past the laryngoscope, through the opening of the vocal cords that only the doctor can see. They watch as it slots fully into place and the anesthesiologist adjusts it, leaving it to rest against Whumpee's lower lip for only a moment before the cuff is inflated and the ventilator is hooked up to it instead.
And as the circuit is completed, Caretaker would think Whumpee dead- their eyes are closed, everything is so still, and whenever the tube needs a slight adjustment, they're floppy beneath the touch of the adjuster. Only when Caretaker looks closer do they see the continual, regular fogging of the tube with each assisted breath Whumpee takes- a sign that they're living, at least.
The anesthesiologist glances over at the screen, which to Caretaker looks merely like a smattering of numbers and wave forms.
"We've got N tidal CO2. Everything's connected. Secure the tube and continue to monitor."
With that, they step away, their primary task complete, and a nurse steps in instead- already equipped with an ET tube holder. Caretaker watches them gently press one of the sticky pads against Whumpee's cheek, then moving to the other cheek to apply the other pad. Between them, the tube is secured in place, and at last Whumpee is... Whumpee is...
Caretaker doesn't even realise they've moved to the bedside until they shakily lower themselves into the seat there, listening to the wooshing of the ventilator and the beeping of so many monitors.
Whumpee is... sick. really sick.
They've known it for a long time, of course, but seeing Whumpee intubated, sedated in an intensive care unit, their cheeks pale, sweat beading on their brow... it hammers reality home even further.
Home.
Whumpee isn't going to be going home for a long while yet.

Regenerating vampire/monster trained as a living weapon!
I've been working HARD ON THIS to make it give whumperflies, thanks to those who have helped!
(defiant whumpee and war vibes)
Content: dehumanization, magical whump, painful regeneration, beatings, suicide attempt
Being kept in a cage because they're "dangerous". Whumpee banging on the bars and shouting to be released only makes them get treated more like an animal
Being able to beat them to death because they'll just come back. Whumper is just prone to raging and uses whumpee to take it out on. They don't have to hold back at all.
Bonus, whumper encourages whumpee's defiance because it makes them feel more satisfied when they finally give them the beating--"they deserved it anyway"
Whumpee slowly acting less defiant and more stoic because they're being treated like a dumb animal anyway
Using their magical weaknesses against them. A vampire that burns in sunlight would scream under a UV flashlight.
Binding them with silver-plated wire--far longer than necessary. Long enough for it to burn through their skin, leaving them begging, bleeding, promising never to run ever again
Until "are you going to kneel, or am I going to have to tie you down there" has them thumping hard to their knees instantly, eyes glued to the wire on the shelf behind whumper.
Blinding or maiming them so that they're still powerful but whumper has a way to control them.
"testing" their powers by seeing how many stabs they can take, can they regenerate a whole limb, etc.
Hurting their best friend instead of punishing whumpee (whumpee is too difficult to hurt)
Or, punishing whumpee excessively, because their wounds heal so quickly it looks like no damage was done, maybe they think whumpee didn't really feel it for long enough
Whumpee coming back horribly injured but they forgot a "sir" and now they're not allowed the blood they need to regenerate, for a set amount of time. So they're just writhing in pain and begging for blood.
Whumpee trying, and failing, to kill themselves. When they get caught cleaning up the blood to hide the evidence, they're dragged away to be punished for trying to destroy their master's property.
"I'm not about to let you die on me" taking a whole new controlling, frightening meaning
Whumpee never wanted to hurt anyone... One day it's too much and they let their enemies beat the shit out of them rather than hurt anyone else.
And then whumper comes back to the base with their head down and arms clamped to their sides, trying to prepare themselves for the rage of their masters when they find out the low casualty count.
Whumper sent whumpee into an unwinnable fight to teach them a lesson. They did not expect their enemies to take whumpee back with them.

Yay! Can I please request a feral Caretaker who is extremely protective of their whumpee?? Any scenario is fine, I just really wanna see your take on a feral Caretaker!!
LOVE IT! Done and done
CW: Vengful caretaker, re-introduced to whumper, violent caretaker, aftermath and angst
Whumpee sat with Caretaker's jacket wrapped around their shoulders. Their eyes followed Caretaker, who paced around the room, snapping from left to right.
They were about to bring whumper in. The interrogation room was set and whumpee was placed somewhere they weren't going to have to see it.
"Caretaker..." Whumpee softly called to them. Caretaker abruptly stopped pacing and glanced at them. Whumpee could see their face lightly sweating and their hand itching to tremble.
"You're going to stay here with me, right? You're not going to leave?" Whumpee asked.
Caretaker gave them a reassuring smile and knelt by their side.
"Of course. Yes, of course I am. I'm just... So angry." Caretaker's tone morphed. "Whumper's going to be in this very building and it makes my blood boil." They hissed. They quieted their tone down and gently took whumpee's hands.
"They won't ever hurt you again. No one will. I promise."
Before whumpee could even respond, commotion erupted the halls. Caretaker jumped and put themselves between Whumpee and the door.
"They're here... Aren't they?" Whumpee nervously stuttered.
"Don't worry about them. They're being taken straight to interrogation." Caretaker stared through the small window at the door.
Suddenly, one voice was more vocal than the rest of the commotion.
Whumper's voice.
Threats. Insults. Curses.
Whumpee's name.
Their name wasn't screamed like the rest of their words. Whumper called for them lovingly. "I know you're here, sweetheart. Come see me. We all know you want to."
Whumpee shivered and hunched, covering their ears. "Keep it together" they thought to themselves, as tears bursted down their blank expression. They sniffed and wiped their face, looking up at caretaker for assurance-
-But they weren't there.
The door swayed as someone had just gone through as a flash of movement flickered by the window.
Suddenly, the commotion re-exploded. Whumper's voice was drowned as shouting and fighting seemed to commence. Whumpee tensed and clutched the jacket tighter.
"Caretaker?" Whumpee called, scared to be heard.
Should they go after them? What if someone got hurt? What if caretaker got hurt? Whumpee slowly rose to their feet and walked towards the door; the commotion getting louder. They reached for the door, but before they could open it, it slowly opened for them as caretaker walked right back in.
They had no more trembling, no more worry. Their face was peaceful and calm, yet splattered with a nauseating amount of blood.
Whumpee retracted their hand- "Wh-what just happened?! Are you hurt?! Caretaker is that blood-"
"It's okay." Caretaker said in the calmest voice whumpee has ever heard. "Everything is fine. It's more then fine." Caretaker smiled and cupped whumpee's face.
"I told you; they will never, ever hurt you again."
"I made sure of it."

Kane & Jim #56: Else
Chronological masterlist / Writing order masterlist
content: recovery and lots of it, angst, sickfic, accidental emotional whump, fear of starvation, vampire whumpee, whumper turned whumpee (turned caretaker), reunions
Whumpmas in July Day 18: "Or else"
i'm sorry for being so slow with k&j chapters! i'm going to try to be quicker with them in the future. here's one people have been waiting for for a very long time!
-
“You’re sick.”
Jim blinked, taken aback. “What?”
“You’re sick,” Kane repeated, taking another sip from the bowl. One of his last bowls before he was to start finding his own elsewhere. “I can taste it.”
“What? What kind of sick? Is it serious?” Jim asked with increasing urgency. Kane could see it in his eyes: he knew fear, and he hated to see it in Jim.
He wanted more than anything to reassure him, but he couldn’t lie. “I-I don’t know?” he admitted. “I don’t know much of human illnesses. You seem… fine?”
“Shit. Shit shit shit.” Jim grabbed his coat. “I’ll be back soon. I gotta… go to the doctor, or something. Door,” he warned.
“I’m sorry. I’m sure you’ll be okay! You can’t even feel it! You’re a healthy young man!” Kane assured him, ducking into the kitchen.
“Thanks for warning me!” Jim’s voice was laden with nerves. A flash of sunlight made Kane shiver, and he only returned to the living room when it was gone.
Kane knew what this meant: Jim would likely not finish out the week. This was his last meal given. He would have to go to vampire territory tonight, or else he would have nothing to eat come tomorrow. He had to find blood tonight, or else he’d starve. He’d go back to that horrible, empty state, always wanting, always in pain.
He knew Jim wouldn’t really let that happen, but it wasn’t fair to rely on him for blood forever, either. Kane had taken enough, with and without permission. It was Jim’s turn to rest.
Still, the fear of hunger never left him. It was a part of him now, permanently, no matter how much he fed.
And this meant one thing. The thing he’d been putting off and dreading since Jim set him free.
He would have to go to vampire territory and talk to his parents. He knew already that it would not go over well. Father would be either furious or crushingly disappointed that he’d allowed himself to be humiliated by humans, and he wasn’t sure which was worse. Mother would undoubtedly be the latter. He wondered, not for the first time, if they preferred him ‘dead’.
It shouldn’t matter. He knew now that they weren’t… good people. He could see that. He had a new family of sorts, now that Jim had taken him in.
But Jim wasn’t his legal next of kin, and Jim wasn’t the one he had to ask if he wanted his money returned so he could buy blood.
He could always get a job. But it seemed ridiculous to do when he had money sitting right there, and he would likely be found by his parents at some point anyway. There was no avoiding it forever.
Kane drank the bowl down quickly.
-
It was a flu, apparently. Nothing life-threatening, but it set Jim’s anxieties alight. His parents had died of illness, he explained.
While Kane had managed to catch it early, Jim started to devolve within a few hours of arriving home.
Kane knocked on his bedroom door. “Jim? Can I come in?”
“Ugh. Yeah,” he agreed.
Carefully balancing the tray, he entered. He found Jim curled up in bed, looking miserable.
“I’ve brought you lunch.” He’d been practicing his human food skills. He was still quite afraid of the stove, so though he used it when feeling especially brave, he mainly stuck to things that didn’t require cooking. He’d written down several combinations of foods that humans found appetizing, which could often be served in between slices of bread as a ‘sandwich’.
But he needed a tray instead of a plate, because despite his strength, he simply didn’t have enough hands to carry the six cups of water circled around it.
“Lotta water,” Jim noted weakly, grabbing a glass and taking a sip when Kane brought it close. His hand shook, the liquid threatening to spill. Kane watched it close, ready to steady it in a heartbeat if Jim needed him to.
He spoke gently, like he was worried speaking too loud would break Jim in his fragile state. “...Like I’d mentioned, I don’t know much about human illness. Most of what I know comes from you. I just remember… you wanted a lot of water, last time.”
He thought about that time a lot. How he was so close to losing Jim, because he was too proud to listen.
“Ah. Yeah.” Jim wouldn’t look him in the eye. “I remember.”
Kane set the tray down. “I should have taken better care of you,” he whispered. “I’m sorry. I mean–I shouldn’t have had you in the first place, but I did, and you were my responsibility, and I didn’t care for you like I should have.” A hint of tears in his eyes, he took Jim’s unusually-sweaty hand. “I’ll do better this time. Anything you need, I’ll be there.”
That earned a small smile from Jim. “Guess it isn’t so bad being waited on. ‘Specially because you can’t get sick, right?” The smile faded. “…Right?”
“I can’t,” Kane assured him. “You don’t need to worry. Just rest, and I’ll take care of anything you need.”
Jim huffed an almost-laugh. “You really changed, man.”
-
Liz did come over to visit come nightfall, which was good, since despite his promises, Kane had to leave. He didn’t like the thought of leaving Jim alone at night. He knew it made him scared, and Jim deserved to never feel afraid ever again. She brought a container of soup, a yellow liquid with colorful plants and large white orbs floating in it.
He waited, patient, until Liz emerged from Jim’s room. “Liz?”
“Hey. Thanks for looking after him,” Liz said.
“Of course!” The praise spread warmly through him. “There’s, um, something I wanted to talk to you about, if you have the time? Advice, I suppose.”
“Shoot,” she encouraged, flopping over on the couch.
Kane took a deep breath. “So, um, I assume now is a good time to start getting my own blood.”
“Yyyyeah.” Liz shot a glance to the stairs leading to Jim’s room. “I’d say that’s about right.”
“Blood… isn’t free. I have the money–had the money, but I’ve likely been assumed dead for many years. I’ll need to go to my parents to get it back,” he explained. “My parents are not kind people, I’ve come to realize.”
Liz raised an eyebrow, but politely refrained from making any comments about his former obliviousness. “You think they won’t give it back? Isn’t there, like, laws? This can’t be the first time this has happened with vampires, you guys are too good at not dying.”
“No! No, that’s not it, they’d give it back. It’s just, um, they’ll be… quite upset with me, I think. Especially my father.” He sighed. “I didn’t want to talk about it with Jim. I was worried he would feel pressured into giving me more blood than he’s comfortable with. I don’t know. It shouldn’t be as big a deal as it is. I’ve been through so much worse, I don’t understand why this is so terrifying. I suppose I’ve just never failed this badly before.”
“Hey, you made it out of five years with those monsters, alive. Bet there’s not a lot of vampires who could say that,” Liz pointed out.
“Ah, that’s just… not how Father would see it,” Kane said vaguely. Humans were supposed to be the weak ones. The fact that it took him five years to be freed, and he couldn’t even do it himself, would make him an utter embarrassment in their eyes.
And it was all because he couldn’t use persuasion. Everything they’d always believed about him, proven true.
Liz pursed her lips, lost in thought for a moment. “I don’t remember my parents that well,” she admitted. “I know yours suck pretty bad. I don’t think you have to admit more than you need to, right? Like, do they even need to know where you’ve really been? You could just make something up, for the sake of keeping the peace.”
“Make something up…” Kane murmured. He shook his head. “I’m not a very good liar. They’d see right through me. It’s fine, actually, the more I talk about it, the more I realize I’m being a bit ridiculous.” He forced a laugh. “It’s one uncomfortable conversation and then I can come back home.”
“You’ve got this.” Liz patted him lightly on the back, a modification from her usual clap she’d learned tended to scare him. “You’re tough.”
Kane certainly didn’t feel ‘tough’.
“Thank you. It was nice to at least… get it out of my system. Oh, and congratulations. Jim told me about you and Laken.”
Liz smiled. “After what happened, I just knew I had to say something, you know? If they could just be taken from me at any moment. Stuff happens. People die. I didn’t want something to happen to one of us before I could tell them how I feel.”
She stood. “I can give you one more night’s worth, maybe two. If you need some time to think about it and all.”
Kane startled. He and Liz had grown far more amicable over the past months, but he hadn’t expected this from her.
Maybe he should have. It wasn’t the first time. He thought of Jim, on that first night, vehemently denying Liz’s offer to provide blood, vowing to do it himself.
“...Thank you. That means so, so much to me. It’s alright, though. I’ll go tonight,” he decided.
“Good luck. We’ll be here when you get back,” she promised.
And that was all he really needed, in the end.
Kane got up, heading to the door with a quick glance back to make sure it was alright. For the freedom he’d earned, he hadn’t gone more than ten feet from the house since he’d returned with Laken. But of course, Liz made no move to stop him. “I’ll see you soon.”
-
The night was as beautiful as ever, even in the cool autumn air. He liked it better this way, in fact. It made it more comfortable to wear more clothing, the long pants and long sleeves and jacket he liked, especially when he ran. When he went this fast, he hardly felt the cold, and his mind was occupied elsewhere.
What if his parents made demands of him in exchange for their help? What if they expected him to return to vampire territory, to isolate himself out of the way in a socially-acceptable manner? Now that he’d tasted true companionship, he almost couldn’t bear to give it up. And what about Jim? Ever since Laken’s abduction, he’d been more scared at night. The very least Kane owed him was his protection.
His petty worries disappeared the instant he realized he could hear a vehicle coming closer.
Kane ran faster, opposite the sound. He’d likely been pushing fifty miles an hour before, and could make sixty if he tried–but he was out of practice, and the vehicle was faster.
A glance behind him showed moonlight glinting off a silver crossbow.
“I have permission!” he wailed as the off-roader gained, heart threatening to burst from his chest. This couldn’t happen, not again, no. Jim and Liz wouldn’t even think to look for him until a day had passed, a day that could easily be spent baking in the hot sun. “Liz Lieberman granted me permission to cross! Please, I didn’t do anything! Mercy!”
“Kane?” an unfamiliar voice called. The vehicle caught up to him, but there was no attack. “Oh shit, it’s you!” the driver said. “It’s so dark, I almost didn’t recognize you from the picture Laken showed us. Thanks for bringing ‘em back.”
Kane slowed, just a bit. “What?” he squeaked, tears streaming down his face.
The hunter in the passenger seat elbowed his partner, making quick movements with his hands that Kane could not understand. A signed language of some sort, he assumed. Though he didn’t know much about such things, other than that spoken orders under persuasion often didn’t work on humans who utilized it.
“Uh, my partner wants to know if you’re good? Like, you’re alright?” The driver asked. “Did we scare you? Sorry. Just, uh, you know, gotta be quick with the other guys. One second wasted and you miss ‘em, and that’s someone’s whole life, y’know.”
“Oh. Um, yes, you’d–you’d frightened me. I’m sorry.” Kane wasn’t quite sure what he was apologizing for. “Am I… free to go, sirs?”
“Yeah! Yeah, you can go… sir? Shoot, don’t let us keep you,” the hunter assured.
The one in the passenger seat made more hand-signs, waving him goodbye after. “Nice to meet you!” the other translated, finally driving away.
Kane picked up speed again and didn’t stop until he was sure he’d left the border far behind. He collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.
He was so close to going back to the pain. If they hadn’t recognized him, he would have been skewered with silver–likely soon killed, not tortured, given they were from Liz’s guild, but still, he would have died in pain. No matter how hard he breathed, he felt like he couldn’t get enough air, and he wasn’t sure if it was that he’d been sprinting for too long or the sheer horror.
He wanted Jim. He wanted Jim to hold him and tell him everything was alright, that he was safe, that no one was going to hurt him. But Jim was miles and miles away, and could not help him here.
And he couldn’t cry on the ground forever. He was burning moonlight, and he needed blood.
Kane forced himself to his feet and wrapped his arms around him. If he squeezed his eyes tight, he could pretend he wasn’t alone, for just a moment.
After a minute like that, he started running once more.
-
By the time Kane reached his parents’ estate, he’d mostly calmed down. It was hard to feel as though hunters would ambush him out of nowhere when he went deep enough into vampire territory to see buildings and people. Any hunter here would be apprehended in seconds.
He touched the gate, brass-coated, though he knew there was silver underneath. There seemed to be some sort of electronic device attached to it, a new addition since his last visit, but he wasn’t sure how to use it. He could climb it, or simply shout, and one of the staff would likely hear him. If he wanted to be extra polite, which he did, he could simply stand here until someone came or went and ask to be let in.
And then that would be it. Kane would be standing face-to-face with his parents. He would accept Father’s ire without complaint. He’d had worse, he reminded himself, even when it came to the comparable. The hunters had spit on him while calling him worthless, ground his face into the floor while forcing him to decry himself as beneath them. It had been so much worse.
His hand shook against the gate.
You’ve really changed, man.
Had he? If he was still back here, ready to take whatever judgments his parents threw at him, debase himself and eagerly beg for their forgiveness, had he really changed? There were humans in there. Captive, hurt humans who he could never in a thousand years be able to free if he tried, locked away in their quarters. What happened to all his regrets? His vows that he would never associate with anything of the sort again?
What would he have done differently here before, if he’d realized back then everything he knew now?
Kane left.
-
It took him a bit to find it, he hadn’t been to this town before, but it wasn’t far, and he knew the address.
There was a different kind of dread this time. If he was rejected here, it might be even worse than his parents. But as he rang the doorbell, he knew this was what he had to do.
The man who answered looked almost exactly the same as the last time he’d seen him, thirteen years ago. The same dark skin, perfect hair, typically garishly-colorful shirt.
Bellamy’s eyes went impossibly wide, as though he’d seen a ghost.
“Kane?”

day 25 of @augusnippets
intimate whumper
Whumpee is chained to the wall, the cold metal has rubbed his wrists and ankles raw. When Whumper quietly comes into the room, he flinches.
“Shhh,” Whumper hushes gently as he approaches.
Before he realizes what he’s doing, Whumpee is shaking his head, curling in on himself, ducking his head down.
“Oh, my beautiful thing, please don’t hide from me.” And somehow Whumper actually sounds hurt. As if it actually bothers him to have Whumpee shy away from him like this.
Whumper is close. He kneels, and Whumpee can feel his body heat—his warmth—and craves it.
He’s disgusted with himself for wanting it.
“I’m here now,” Whumper reassures as if his presence is a wanted thing. As if he’s the balm to the wound instead of the knife.
Days of torture and little sleep have caused Whumpee’s inhibitions to crumble like the Tower of Babel, and a fearful whimper passes through his lips without his consent.
“Oh, my pet. You make such beautiful noises for me. Such a gift, and I haven’t even started.”
A firm yet gentle grip on his chin has Whumpee tilting his head up to meet Whumper’s eyes.
Whumper is staring at him with awe like he’s a shepherd in Bethlehem seeing the angels tell him of Christ’s birth.
No one has ever looked at Whumpee like this.
Whumpee’s eyes flutter closed, and he hears Whumper’s sharp intake of breath.
Warm hands are on his shoulders. They pull him flush against Whumper, and he feels so warm and soft that Whumpee falls into him willingly. Whumper’s hands skate down Whumpee’s ribcage. Whumper holds him close. Tightly but not rough.
One of Whumper’s hands slips under Whumpee’s shirt. There’s a half-second where Whumpee feels the cold press of the blade before the pain.
Whumpee isn’t quite sure what sound he makes when the blade penetrates his skin, the pain floods his senses and blots out everything except Whumper’s warmth.
Whumpee grips onto Whumper’s shirt. All he can do is hold on and ride out the pain. This is how Whumper likes it.
Whumper has tortured him sharp and slicing and ruthlessly fast, but Whumpee soon realized if he allows the broken noises to escape and reaches to Whumper for comfort, Whumper will slow down. He’ll hold Whumpee. He’ll hold him like he’s something rare and precious. Valuable.
“Shhh, shhh,” Whumper says. He begins rocking them slightly, the blade stabbing deeper and deeper into Whumpee with the movements.
Quiet, devastated noises erupt from Whumpee’s throat each time the blade sinks in farther.
Whumper presses gentle kisses to Whumpee’s head. The touch is light like a ghost. Ethereal.
“Your beauty is magnificent,” Whumper praises. “There is nothing in all of creation like you.”
Whumper drops the blade with a clink before his hands are under Whumpee’s shirt again. He traces the newest wound with so much reverence it would make a saint jealous.
“I think I’ll keep you forever,” Whumper promises.
